October 4, 2011 It lasted exactly a year! Last night it failed and smoke poured out of the inverter. The LED flickered red/green. I switched it off immediately. I was able to repair it myself and I have put instructions on a web site. (You'll have to search.)I was initially very happy with this inverter. It worked very well when it was working. Now the green led stays lit up but there is no power coming out of the socket. What to do now.Power Bright APS300-12 Pure Sine Power Inverter 300 Watt 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC
While this item initially worked as expected, I noticed it would overload trip on a while powering on a moderately small audio amplifier. I didn't think much of that at the time, but it was an indication of things to come.
During tests before I traveled I ran at loads up to approximately 120 watts and the inverter worked just fine. It never even got warm enough to turn on the cooling fan.
While camping at an NHRA event the unit failed with no warning while running only 24 watts of LED lighting. There were perhaps 20 hours total of running time on it.
As an engineer, I would say a failure at less than 10% load is an indicator of either poor design or poor quality control.
This is a don't touch item.I first bought a 800watt regular modified power inverter for 40 bucks. Then I though I should have spend the extra money and buy a pure sine wave inverter. Boy was I wrong. 1 year later my $40.00 modified one buy Cobra is running strong and I use it all the time. I took out my PowerBright one the other day and like most other reviews on here say, it no longer puts out any voltage. The light comes on, but when I put a meter on it, I get nothing! I used it 4 times over 3 months. Each time, no longer than an hour. Save your money and stay away from this.
***update 6/7/3013***
So after I wrote this review on Amazon, the Powerbright Customer support read it and contacted me. They were VERY helpful and assured me they would assist. They offered to not only replace my Powerbright 300 watt inverter, but offer me a free upgrade to the 600 watt pure sine model. They sent me a pre-paid shipping label to send the defective one back. After they received it, they sent me the 600 watt pure sine model at no charge along with new 4 gauge battery cables. So even though I had a problem with my original one after 1 year, the company did stand by their product and do the right thing, and then some. Now I'm not sure if they've resolved the issues with some of the 300 watt ones suddenly dying as others have also written reviews having the same issue, but it's nice to know that they do listen to their customers and make sure the customer is taken care of.Unit works as described . I wish it had a USB port also for charging. It was unable to power up my Sager laptop.
