Belkin 2.1 Amp Car Charger with Lightning Connector for iPhone 5

This is for the iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPad mini, and also for the iPod 5 (although it doesn't say iPod 5 on the box or product description). It is an all-in-one charger and cord, not two separate pieces. If it were just the charger, you could plug in the old 30-pin for older Apple technology.

I charged my iPhone, which was at about 50%, on a 30 minute drive to work, and it was essentially recharged completely. The cord is sturdy, and long enough to hold the phone either in the driver or passenger seat. You can plug it in on either side of the cable. I have an Otterbox Defender case and had no problems with the fit.

This is the one charger recommended by Apple, and therefore I feel secure that there will be no power or shortage problems. It won't fry your expensive iPhone. You don't want to take chances on a cheap brand that will fry your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

If you tend to misplace cables, this would work just fine. The cable is stuck to the connector. I would have preferred the $35 charger with the detachable USB to Lightning cable, which was not available at the time of purchase, instead of this one-piece car charger. With the other, you'd at least have a Lightning cable to use elsewhere. At this juncture, Belkin is one of few companies licensed to use Apple's Lightning chip tech so you know it will work without question. For $5 more, I think the $34.95 Belkin F8J090bt04 is a better buy, but I'm still satisfied with this purchase. Works as advertised.

This charger is great. It is small, has a low profile and works very well with my Iphone 5. It fits into and out of the car charger very well....not sticky like some other chargers. Highly recommended.

The charger works exactly as advertised and expected, but in 2013 for $30 one can expect a few basic circa 20th century features check out 'cons' below.

Pros:

* Solid feel to the product. Well built and sturdy parts charger, cable and lightning connector

* Slim profile charger that fits flush and does not get in the way

* Fast charging almost as fast as a wall charger. Approx 2.5 hours for a full charge

* Well designed lightning connector fits most cases without any issue (check images above)

Cons:

* Pricey at $30

* For $5 more, this charger is available in a modular format Belkin F8J078bt04-BLK Car Charger with Lightning 8-Pin Connector to USB Cable (2.1 Amp) Retail Packaging Black -Charger with a lightning cable that would be useful for non-lightning devices which, in my family outnumber lightning devices 10 to 1. Luckily, I have another outlet in the car where I have a dual USB charger to accommodate the other devices. In 2013, we should be thinking optimization, efficiency and re-usability!

* The charger has a Green LED that remains on when the charger is connected. It seems inefficient to power the gremlins. I have old USB car chargers that turn-off when a device is not plugged in, light up Red when charging and Green when fully charged I paid less than $10 for those chargers
