Duracell MyPocket Charger for iPod #852-0227

Duracell MyPocket Charger for iPod #852-0227
  • Get up to 24 hours of music on the latest iPod nano
  • Compatible with all 4th generation or greater iPod models with dock connectors
  • Two AA batteries
  • Lanyard attachment

Mainly designed for non-rechargeable batteries (Alkaline). Needs a total battery voltage 0f about 2.8 to turn on. So Nimh batteries don't work becuse At 2.7 volt won't turn on. once turned on, need to leave cord plugged into Duracell charger to get full use of batteries. If your unplug cord at

Duracell charger end, after using some of battery charge won't restart when cord is plugged back into charger. But if your leave cord plugged into charger you can get full use of battery charge. Only way I get AA nimh batteries to work in it, is in the mornings before I head out I have batteries sitting in recharge so their at maximum voltage. Then pop them into Duracell ipod charger, plug cord into charger to turn it on and leave it that way till near days end when I need the extra power. Works good that way but sure is a hassle. Or Just use alkaline all the time, but thats not what I was looking for.

This charger works well with the supplied Lithium batteries and also with other non-rechargable AA batteries. It appears this thing was designed to not work with rechargeable batteries. I guess that makes sense for something being sold by a battery company who wants to sell more batteries. To my mind this "marketing decision" decreases the value of this item.

My suggestion is to seek out a device without this artificial restriction; something that would work with both rechargable and non-rechargable batteries. For example the Turbo Charge TC² Portable Charger for iPod and iPhone, while costing a bit more, would pay for itself in not having to constantly buy batteries (plus it has a few additional features). Then you would have something that is truly useful.

This product worked great for the time I used it as long as you buy lithium batteries. I own an Ipod touch and it completely recharged it twice on one set of batteries when I was on a long plane ride.

Testing process:

1) Started with a fully charged ipod.

2) Ran the ipod at full volume with two pair of ear buds plugged in (using a splitter) to help quickly discharge the ipod. (The ipod was left on the kitchen counter.)

3) After the ipod battery level indicator dropped to approximately 65 percent, the pocket charger was plugged in. (It took about 90 minutes to discharge the ipod to 65 percent.)

4) The ipod was left running at full volume with two pair of ear buds (I could hear it in the next room) and the pocket charger left plugged into it.

5) After about 45 minutes with the pocket charger attached, the ipod battery was charged back up to full power.

Added note; I briefly plugged the pocket charger into my old Razor phone and it began charging the phone too.

For me, the MyPocket Charger is a keeper and I would recommend it to a friend.
