Seidio Innodock Jr. Desktop Cradle for HTC EVO 4G (Black)

Seidio Innodock Jr. Desktop Cradle for HTC EVO 4G1) It feels very cheap

2) The power light is useless (it should have been on the back if at all.

3) It is difficult to get the phone into the dock because you have to manually line the micro-usb port up with the docking protrusion.

4) While docked, the phone is very unstable and the weight of the phone is borne entirely on the port itself.

5) There is a garish "Sedio" logo on the front of the dock.

But...it will do for now. When/if HTC releases a 1st-tier dock for this phone, I'll probably get that and just use this one on my home desk or something.

So first off, yes it does the job. It charges, syncs and keep your camera lens off your desk. That being said, it's badly designed. The phone does not slide into place. The micro USB connector is on a "hinge" so after you connect it tips back and allows your device to rest against the back of the "L". The issue with this is that it makes it difficult to line up your device correctly, and you could easily break the connector on the cradle, OR the phone. My advice is to pick up the cradle in your hand, and then connect the phone. An irritating extra step, but it just might save you money replacing one or the other. For the price, the oversight in the design isn't a deal-breaker, but keep it in mind!

UPDATE January 28th 2011:

Changed my review from 3 stars to 1 star. This item is less than a year old, never been moved or disconnected from the PC, and it stopped working. It's clean, nothing ever spilled on it or near it, there is no reason for it to have suddenly stopped working, yet it has. While connected, the phone does connect to the PC as an external drive, and says it's charging. I can have my phone on there all day using it as adrive and no problems, but once disconnected, the battery is all but dead. It will not charge. The phone charges just fine with the original mini-usb cable plugged into the same UBS port, so it's not my computer or the phone. The cradle simple will not charge my phone anymore. Avoid this, wait for something better.

I agree entirely with the first reviewer who noted the cheap construction and poor design. I was prepared to purchase one of these through Amazon until I saw one on a coworker's desk and examined it. The phone does, indeed, perch otherwise unsupported on the USB plug and micro USB connections are just not made for that. The base, itself, is very light and is unstable when the phone is placed in it. I haven't taken the time to research but I would bet that Seidio makes this cradle for a number of phones and just adapted it (poorly) to work with the Evo.

I'll wait for HTC or another vendor to produce a quality item, then I'll buy.

Poor design, good build quality, but I can't recommend it.

When I get in bed at night, I put my EVO in a cradle to charge. Most often in the dark, and I don't want to wake up my fiance. I wanted a cradle for my EVO that would align the phone's USB charging port with the charging port on the cradle easily, quickly, and quietly, with no fumbling (just like what I had for my Touch Pro). I still want one. This cradle is not it. It is marginally better than the cable, but only by a bit.

Pros:

The charging part that goes into the phone is on a piece that can move a bit, so it will handle you phone even if it is in a case.

Small footprint.

The phone rests at a comfortable viewing angle.

Cons:

No easy way to align phone to fit onto cradle.

Can't turn off the LED.

Summary:

All it needs to be an outstanding cradle is some guides (adjustable, so that it will still work if your phone is in a case), then it would be great. As it is now, if all you are looking for a desktop charging cradle that you can use where you can easily see exactly where to fit the phone onto the cradle, it will work fine.

This dock successfully kept my EVO 4G charging yesterday. But when I arrived at the office today at 11% charge, when I docked it the battery meter icon changed to a plug-in/charging icon for a second, then changed back to a battery meter, and showed me the "please connect your charger" alert. I undocked it, re-docked it, same thing happened--it would show that it was charging, and then it would show that it's not charging. I thought perhaps it was shorting out when I stopped holding it, so I tried a couple more times without moving the unit, but that seemed to have nothing to do with it.

I then connected my plain USB connector cable to the same USB power source, and it switched to "charging" and stayed there. So that confirmed that it was a faulty dock.

Being as ridiculously expensive as this piece of plastic (this dock) was, I expected MUCH better quality than this.
