For years I've charged my deep cycle marine batteries (used to power ham radio transceivers for Field Day) with a $50 Sears charger so when my friend VK3VTH suggested I look at the CTEK smart charger I really liked the engineering and design. I decided on the big mother 25000 charger and it is a BIG step up for me. Really cool, you can be totally brainless and let the CTEK charger brain do the work. Just clip on the heavy duty insulated alligator clips to your battery terminals (the charger will warn you if you've reversed positive and negative, plug in the charger and let it go through the 8 steps to a charged battery. I called the CTEK people to ask a question and got my technical questions answered easily. The money you spend on a CTEK charger is money well spent.

I'm quite conservative with my star ratings, although this charger impressed me right from the start. I have a 15 year old deep cycle marine battery that I use for an electric trolling motor for my canoe. I hadn't used that battery for over 10 years and the acid had evaporated (totally dry). I filled it with distilled water and hooked up the charger. I pressed the recondition button and walked away. After two and a half days of charging, the indicator light read full. This battery now has jumped a car, lawn mower (twice) and is retaining its charge. That one charge has saved a $90.00 battery.
The primary reason for choosing this charger was not having to worry about over charging; totally automatic with thermostat.
I would Highly recommend this to anyone.
