This did what it was supposed to but not for long. It began to repeatedly blow the fuse in the car despite having it's own fuse. Once I had identified that it was the charger at fault and not the socket I decided to open the unit up to see if there was something shorting out that would cause this. (It is cheaper to throw away than to return). Inside the charger, the metal springs press against a very thin wall of plastic that simply isn't thick enough, and it was breaking away completely simply because of the pressure put on it by the springs when the charger is pushed into the lighter socket. This allowed the springs to contact other parts inside the charger. The concept is good. The price is cheap, but so is the construction. It's not a case of being gentle with it either. It simply isn't man enough to cope with being pushed into a socket unless that socket is slightly oversized. Even then care must be taken. Spend some extra and get a better quality charger because the construction of this one is about as poor as it gets.

The GTMax Rapid Car Charger for HTC Hero gets very hot, in fact, it burned my finger and gave me a blister. Very dangerous if you have children in the car. It worked fine for two months, then suddenly stopped working. Bargain Cell would not replace it since it is beyond the 30 day warranty period. My recommendation is to buy a quality product rather than this piece of junk that needs to be replaced every few months. I am surprised that Bargain Cell is willing to lose a customer over a $3 defective item.

Initially I thought the charger was not compatible, it has a mini-usb connector but the HTC Hero phone's plug is not shaped the same. The HTC Hero phone jack is rectangular in shape but with one corner "snipped" off. Upon further inspection it does fit and charges the phone successfully.

My only other comments are that it gets very hot while in use, and the cord could be a little longer.

This charger was used for about a dozen time and now it will not function. Sporadic charging or will not charge the phone at all. I used another non Sprint USB charger and it works fine. Save yourself time and a couple dollars and buy something of quality.
