Pyle PLMRMP3A 4-Channel Waterproof MP3/iPod Marine Power Amplifier

Pyle PLMRMP3A 4-Channel Waterproof MP3/iPod Marine Power Amplifier
  • Marine amplifier delivers 4 x 100 Watts RMS at 4 Ohms, 4 x 200 Watts Max at 4 Ohms, 4 x 300 Watts RMS at 2 Ohms
  • Power protection circuitry with anti-thump turn-on and soft turn-off to protect your speakers
  • Accepts RCA line inputs and includes a 3.5mm-to-RCA adaptor so you can plug in your MP3 player or iPod easily
  • Also accepts standard high- and low-level inputs from marine head units
  • Includes wired remote control for adjusting volume gain

This amp will do well for most applications, especially the water resistant (NOT fully submersible) ones. Unfortunately like many amp manufacturers Pyle has chosen to exaggerate the amp's wattage rating beyond all reason.

This amp (like many other low end auto and motorcycle amps) is built on the Toshiba TA8210AHQ amplifier chip. In this case the amp has two chips with each servicing two channels. According to Toshiba this chip is rated at 22 watts per channel at 18 volts. At your average car voltage levels (12-14 or so) it will deliver less. There is no voltage boosting stage which would be required to anything deliver more than about 40 Watts bridged into 4 ohms and the TA8210 isn't rated for bridging anyway.

Note: The technical details posted on this unit as of 7/18/10 are also apparently for some other device. This unit has no AA batteries or USB connection.

Some other technical details are inaccurate: The documentation does not mention the unit as bridgable and the chip documentation doesn't either. It IS 2 ohm stable according to the Pyle documentation (a correction). Some elements are barely technically correct: The distortion is only correct at very low power levels and if the unit is providing 22w it is doing it at 10%THD. Frequency response is 20hz 20k not 10hz 20k

Net recommendation: A good unit for marine, motorcycles and where you don't have space. Not as good as it's specs, but most low end amps are using the exact same chip and circuit design with different housings anyway.

really works for me. i put this in my jeep with some cheap speakers. love the idea of not using a head unit. this amp is all you need (and an ipod). it has a seperate input and volume control. i mounted the amp inside the dash (theft proof), put the input in the console and the volume control high on the dash where it is easy to get to. works great for a low dollar anti-theft system.

Bought this amp a couple weeks ago, installed in an ice chest boom box along with two Kicker KM 6000 speakers so far it works and sounds GREAT! I keep the gain set low and use the ipod to set the volume level It gets plenty loud...loud enough that others gather in close proximity on the beach to listen to my music! I really can't imagine needing anything any louder...and I love my music loud.

This amp is perfect for a quick four speaker job. It spits out enough juice to really get some sound out of your speakers. I hooked this up the Pyle's PLMR6K (6.5" 200 watt speakers with seperate Tweeter) and PLMR692 (6x9 260 watt speakers). This Amp powers these speakers perfected and doesn't hold anything back. I highly recommend this product!
