Vector 2/10/25 Amp Charger with 75 Amp Engine Start, Model# VEC1095A

Vector 2/10/25 Amp Charger with 75 Amp Engine Start, Model# VEC1095A-My Vector Smart-charger unit (with 75amp Engine-start capability) worked wonderfully for 2-years, enabling me to actually revive batteries that would have normally been disgarded as dead owing excessive cell-sufation; --however, the other day i went to use it only to find that it was non-operable (-absolutely no reading on the liquid-crystal display whatsoever)! Thus i took it apart thiking that perhaps a wire had come loose, or that i might find an internal fuse; -well there was indeed an internal-fuse, but it checked-out okay, and no loose wires. Drat, it has thus been relegated to the junk-pile! Thus, while the Smart-charger by Vector, -since bought-out by B&D, and then they more recently have ceased production they told me; -apparently owing to the problem i've just described. Cocclusion: Great micro-processor concept, -but apparently grimlins have gotten the better of it i am sad to say; -so now i am back to using my 1/2-century old Sears Dumb-charger that just keeps on ticking! (Note: i sometimes had to initially use the Dumb-charger to get a dead-battery initially up a few volts for maybe 10-min., whereby the Smart-charger could then take a voltage-reading and take over from there)...

I have used the charger numerous times and really liked it until the fan started making noises and then completely quit. I would not recommend.

I recently purchased this charger to recondition a moderately sulfated car battery. It was one of the few chargers I've been able to find that claim to have equalization and desulfation as features.

First, the equalization voltage does not appear to be high enough to equalize a lead-acid battery. In spite of leaving the charger running for several days now, the voltage has yet to reach the proper equalization voltage level. The result is that the electrolyte has not been equalized as it should have been.

Second, it does not appear that the "Reconditioning" feature does anything to reduce sulfation. Over the course of a day's time, the battery voltage continued to decline and there was no change at all in the specific gravity of the individual cells.

On the positive side, it does claim that it has an automatic shutoff feature, so perhaps I will keep it and use it for regular purposes. My old battery charger has no automatic shutoff and doesn't know how to float charge a battery, so it needed to be replaced anyway.

If you are not looking for an equalization charger, this is a good buy. But if you're one of those rare people with a hygrometer and a jug of distilled water looking to perform maintenance on a battery, this is not the product for you.

Vector is the only charger I will buy, you simply hook it up and let it charge any battery. I love them and recommend them to anyone who is recurrently charging batteries. No damage was received to my Vector charger and it performed well.

I returned this item. My neighbor had one of these exact chargers and it worked great. I think this one must have been defective.
