Peak PKCOAZ 450 Amp Jump Starter with USB and 12 Volt DC Portable Power System

Peak PKCOAZ 450 Amp Jump Starter with USB and 12 Volt DC Portable Power SystemFeatures are good. Materials are bad.

Zipper bag to hold accessories is brilliant. Everything worked well when I got it. It has plenty of power and stays charged for months at a time.

However, after owning it for about a year, and keeping it in the house it has started to fall apart. The air hose is weather checked and will be cracked through soon. The battery clips are plastic with metal inserts. While the clip was attached to a battery, it broke. Unit is nearly useless until I get a new set of clip leads. This unit is better than many models sold at auto parts stores, but it still falls short of a durable, reliable item.

Motorola MD200TPR Giant FRS Two-Way - 10 Mile Radio Triple Pack - Black

Motorola MD200TPR Giant FRS Two-Way - 10 Mile Radio Triple Pack - Black
  • The Talkabout MD200TPR is designed for great looks, as well as solid, functional operations.
  • The location and size of the big buttons make operating this radio a breeze, even when wearing gloves.
  • The sleek rugged housing protects the radio whether it's being used on the playground, in the neighborhood, the campground or at the mall.
  • Triple Pack
  • The MD200TPR includes: 3 radios, 3 NiMH rechargeable battery packs, 3 belt clips, 1 Y cable charging adaptor with 2 connectors, 1 Y cable charging adaptor with a single connector, 1 user guide, 1 accessories sheet.

The description lists 3 radios and it only came with 2 radios. Radios had a 20 mile range instead of 10 which was not necessary for what we needed. This was very disappointing and we were on a time line so not time to return package just had to make do with what came.

This is double pack not a triple pack as the title or the pictures suggest. Was charged the same price as stated for triple pack. For this same price i could have bought a dual pack with a lot more features. Absolutely disappointed.

Jawbone Earwear ERA (Tangle Free) Retractable Car Charger Adapter

Jawbone Earwear ERA Retractable Car Charger AdapterI chose this item because you can charge and talk at the same time. Just plug it into the lighter tray in your car and the cord is will extend out like a measuring tape. Very convenient and portable. However, you get what you pay for and this item is really inexpensive. I looks and feels a little cheap but definitely gets the job done. I'm not to sure if I would recommend this to a friend.

This product is very small and portable. Great for recharging your jawbone Bluetooth should you run out of talk time while driving.

CTEK 56-564 Comfort Indicator Pigtail

CTEK 56-564 Comfort Indicator PigtailWorks as needed with simple install....Perfect addition to the CTEK charger at a glance battery condition can be checked....Would recommend! Will buy from this seller again!

This should have been included with the expensive Ctek trickle charger I recently purchased. I have a motorcycle and riding mower that already have a standard pigtails. This alows me to just plug in the Ctek charger to those vehicles when I want to use the adsvanced technology the Ctek offers in maintaining my batteries. I highly recommend this product if you already have the standard pigtails attached to your vehicles.

Wife's Vespa scooter had trouble starting after the winter was over. Bought this adaptor to go with my ctek charger and the scooter is all juiced up in about a day or two. Highly recommend for those who store vehicles.

That being said that was my fault for not reading the description properly so instead of using on my lawn mower I will be keeping it attached to a vehicle I have with the correct fitting. Still looks like a great product that will work well with my charger.

I use this not only to monitor the battery status, but also to use my ctek charger. As I have a SAE connection on my bike, this works great. Would definitely recommend it as well as the ctek chargers. They are awesome.

Eastwood Emergency Battery Booster Jump Start Pack

Eastwood Emergency Battery Booster Jump Start PackVery nice, lightweight, compact and functional unit. Leads aren't so long they get tangled, but long enough to do the job well. I really like this booster and will probably buy another in the future.

It's basic and nothing fancy but it jumps my dads car anytime his battery dies. The box has a 12 volt outlet that my dad plugs his phone car charger or GPS into when he needs the extra outlet.

UPG 24v Scooter and Wheelchair Battery Charger - 2 Amp Hour Charger - 71703

UPG 24v Scooter and Wheelchair Battery Charger - 2 Amp Hour Charger - 71703This is identical to the charger supplied by the Pride scooter company for my wife's Go-Go mobility scooter, and at a significantly lower cost. The previous one we had lasted for over 5 years. I would have rated this model higher except that you need to be careful connecting and disconnecting the plug from the charger body.

If you yank on it, you could break the plastic tabs that hold the socket inside the charger body. These tabs gave way on my previous charger, and the socket and wires began to come out of the charger body each time I disconnected the plug/cable, and I could find no way to repair it.

Priority Start 12-Volt-Pro-SP PriorityStart Automatic Battery Protector

Priority Start 12-Volt-Pro-SP PriorityStart Automatic Battery ProtectorBMW X5. Installation had to go rear, right near battery, which meant mounting on spare tire wheel well and then buying a new positive cable to stretch from the battery to the Priority Start. Perhaps on cars with battery in front, not such a big deal installing.

Priority Start as disconnect battery only once I know of and that when car sat for an entire week.

Certainly rugged.

Recommend if you can tackle an installation job that might mean drill, cable, etc.

First of all, this electric shut off device worked, but it was poorly designed. On the top of the unit is a metal contact to screw a battery post to. But when I used my fingers to tighten it the post kept turning. I tried to unscrew the battery post but it kept turning and it wouldn't come off.

I ended up using a large screw driver to lift the top metal contact up until I could pry it all the way up. Then I discovered the problem. Below the metal contact plate was a hex nut that wasn't attached to anything. It wasn't welded to the metal plate. It was merely glued down with what looked like epoxy. It is a horrible design and I'm sure everyone who buys this device will eventually fall victim to this serious design flaw, especially if they try to remove it.

I imagine it would have taken another few cents to weld the metal nut to the metal contact plate so the company choose saving a few cents over making the product competently.

I ended up leaving the metal contact pried at a 90° angle so I could tighten the battery post to it. I had to leave it in this position because I couldn't tighten the post without using a wrench to hold the hex nut.

I wrote the company and even sent them photos with ways to properly engineer this device but I never heard from them.

Since I was forced to pry their PriorityStart open I'm sure the company would use this as an excuse to void my warranty, which doesn't last long anyway. And speaking of 'warranties' the buyer has to pay for the return of the unit and THEN the company determines if the unit is bad and from the wording of their warranty information it leads me to believe they will use any reason to avoid honoring their warranty.

Obviously their product is poorly engineered when finger tightening a battery post to it will cause an epoxy-held hex nut to break free. The company obviously doesn't care if customers have to be subjected to what I had to endure. Per their warranty it's obvious they wouldn't replace a unit if the top metal plate had to be pried open just to remove their device from a car even though 100% of the problem was their fault.

Fortunately, their product does work and I can start my car but to have engineered it the way they did reveals a company that doesn't have a quality control department or doesn't care about what happens after a sale is made. After all, their warranty would discourage (intentionally?) almost anyone who tries to get a replacement or a refund.

Lastly, I'm a NASA engineer and no device at NASA would have been made as defective as this device is. I give it 2 stars because it does work but if it was designed properly I would have given it 5 stars. Btw: Any smart and ethical company would take my suggestions and redesign their product and reward a person like myself who told them how to redesign it. It would lead to more sales and more satisfied customers. You'd think a company would have that as their number one priority but sadly most companies don't give a damn about customer satisfaction and only care about making a quick buck. If this company redesigns their product using my suggestions and doesn't compensate me for it then it reveals their total lack of gratitude and appreciation. It also reveals what kind of people are manufacturing & selling this product.

i purchased this for installation on a 96 suburban. i use this vehicle as a member of the local volunteer fire department and police reserves. My hope was that this would allow me to run my emergency led lights and radio equipment on a scene without the need to leave the engine running. It works perfectly. With the fire radio on and receiving, led strobes front and rear and the headlights and hazard signals on the system shut the power down at 1hr 15min. a quick flip of the head light switch and the truck started up just fine. i was a bit concerned if it would work for this purpose but it has performed perfectly.

installation can be a little tricky if you have short or tight battery cables but there is nothing "hard" about the install. i was installed in testing in less than 15min.

this product is great. i will be adding one to my daily driver as well.

Update Sept 2012 - The Battery Protector protected my battery

Wife tried to open up car, no power, she opened trunk with key, that put current to the battery protector, that put battery back on line, opened car, car started, worked like a champ.

This car has a tendency to not shut off a relay, somewhere in car, the battery protector worked, money well spent.

------------------------------------------

Installed item on car, so far working as advertised.

Have not had a problem with a battery drain yet, so can not say that item has protected the battery yet.

However I am sure it will, this car likes to surprise me every now and again.

Battery on this car is in trunk, and space is limited, was able to make it fit, in my case the cable being a few inches longer would have helped, but it is OK.

Seems to be quality product.

UPDATE: After five weeks of constant use with this product, I've had no problems. The thing doesn't miss a beat. I record an average of 29 gigs per day, looping constantly.

...This is a long review because I believe potential buyers need to know all of this...

This product is exactly what I expected -a true HD looping dashcam (1920x1080) that I can (and do) run continually while I'm driving, for a very low price. I have been using the f500l every day in my car, even when I'm parked, for a few weeks now and have had no problems. I've captured a lot of fun video so far, though no accidents or anything really exciting.

Pros:

1. Real HD at 1920x1080. Fantastic quality videos.

2. Numerous options to tailor the camera to your needs.

3. Comes with a lot of accessories, except SD card.

4. The included windshield mount produces no vibrations or other degradation of video, even though it's cheaply made.

5. Good quality audio recording, which can be disabled.

6. Date/time stamp optional.

Cons:

1. Cheaply made. It seems quite fragile and light weight, so I have been treating it very carefully to prevent mishaps. So far so good. I picked up a small case at a local Radio Shack to protect it when transferring between cars or bringing inside the house. Cheap build quality is not a deal killer, especially for the price they're charging.

2. Menus are in Russian out of the box. Three minutes of fiddling (and laughing) fixed it. Not a deal killer.

3. Night shooting is grainy. This is to be expected for a $100 camera. The videos are fairly good at night, though. They're still HD and capture plenty of detail to enjoy watching the clips. This is not a deal killer -it's plenty good.

4. Battery seems to last 5 minutes. This might be a menu setting for battery conservation. I really haven't dug into this because I have mine plugged in at all times. Not a deal killer.

General Info:

I highly recommend this camera if you want something to continually record in your car (looping / recirculating) for the purposes of catching insurance fraudsters and liars, or just want to capture interesting driving incidents. I've transferred many of the clips to my Windows PC and edited them without too much trouble (see below for details). They look really, really good.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO BUY

1. Because the videos are .mov natively, Windows Movie Makers need to do the following to edit the clips: download Freemake Video Converter from download.com and convert the .mov files to .wmv. To view the clips, without editing, download Apple Quicktime for PC. Warning: use Freemake to convert to .wmv or be prepared to have Windows Movie Maker choke on the files, causing hours of frustration. Trust me.

If you have a Mac or use Adobe Premiere or some other quality video editor for the PC, you can probably skip the conversion steps.

2. The camera is cheap, even though its specs are impressive and the quality of the video is high. If you buy, I recommend being very careful. Cover it with some kind of scratch-free, lint-free cloth and keep store it in a rigid case when transporting. Buttons are cheap, so set the camera the way you want, then resist the urge to fiddle.

3. Buy the fastest SD card you can afford. I bought a Class 10, 32 GB card and it is flawless. Card below class 10 cause large gaps between videos. Don't be cheap on the SD card or you'll miss a driving event.

4. The menu button stops working when the camera is plugged into the cig lighter. I almost returned the camera because I couldn't access the menus, until I discovered that the menu button works fine under battery power. Very strange. I can picture an engineer named Igor or Zheng shrugging and saying, "Good enough."

5. I found it useful to change my cig lighter socket so it's always powered, even with the engine off and key out. I wanted it to record while I'm shopping, at work, or parked on the street. Never know when somebody parallel parks, crashes your car, then speeds off. You can nail them if you're always recording, even away from the car. Licenses plates are clearly readable up close.

CONCLUSION

Don't hesitate to buy this camera if you want really great looking driving videos at a very low price *AND* you're willing to be gentle with a cheaply made product. This camera is very unique because the videos are fantastic, and the price is so low. Honestly, if you get unlucky and yours breaks, you can get another for $100. It's an easy sell, really. Seller / vendor was good and reliable and no problems.

I am not professional driver. Luckily I had not accidents until now unlike my friends. I paid attention that the biggest problem is to prove that it was not your fault. The camcorder is always an unbiased witness of an accident which will save lots of your time with police. As a bonus, you may use it to record your recent trip and share most interesting moments with your friends :)

I should admit that camera by itself is very light weighted and can be easily cared in the pocket. Unlike other camcorders which are difficult to setup/remove, this one uses special locks, which allows you to setup/remove it in seconds. The lens is pure wide angle and because of that, some videos may look unusual or even funny :) Camera uses regular Nokia phone battery, so it can be easily replaces if needed. It can make high resolution photos (I noticed that photos are NOT wide angled and looks as normal ones). The only thing it is really missing caring bag, to protect lens from scratches (if it could be scratched of course).

I will give 5 stars to day time recorded video quality. There is a little bit more white color but you can easily fix that via settings. Gadget has option to rotate video upside down, so that allows you to setup camera on top or bottom of window. There were not delays, jumps or even waves (which usually can be found on cheap camcorders). The video looks Full HD 1920x1080 pixels.

Camcorder also records the sound but I personally did not test it. It has nice option to start recording automatically (when camera is powered) but I personally prefer to have feature to start recording once it notices voice inside the car.

UPDATE: I just found a motion detecting feature, so now the camera starts recording automatically, when it detects motion!!! AWESOME!!!

BTW camera comes without SD card, so do not forget to order it separately. I personally will suggest buying min class 7 SD card or SanDisk with 30 or 45 MB/s writing speed. This is needed to prevent any time gaps between video chunks (videos are recorded in small chunks, which allows circle recording).

As an overall this is really stable gadget. I forgot to say that camera has option to mark any chunk as 'interesting' and in that case, it will not be overwritten automatically. That's useful if you recorded something really interesting and you prefer to keep it on camera.

Unlike other reviewers, everything was already in english. It was really easy to setup and I am really surprised at how well everything works. I was expecting a lot of bugs but the thing is solid. I have it recording non-stop and it gets really, really hot in my truck and it doesn't skip a beat. 3 or 4 days after I bought it, an accident happened right in front of me. Got the whole thing on dashcam. Take a look. Quality is much better before youtube compression of course.I will probably ending up buying 1 more for my boat.

UPDATE: The camera stopped working after a week. I just sent it back to them. Sucks because now I'm out an extra 10 bucks to ship it back :( I'm rating it 2 stars until I get a unit that lasts more than a week!

UPDATE 2: Got the camera back and have had it for a while. It's been working great. The only issue is that it shuts down on it's own sometimes. It seems to shut off when it's really hot and that might be a on purpose so the unit does not get damaged. I leave it on 24 hours a day so when I get in the car, I just check to make sure it's running and if not, just turn it on. Overall satisfied.

Want Mini Portable Car Dashboard DVR Camcorder Camera F500L HD Full 1080P with LED Light Discount?

I have been happy with the performance of this video camera. It is relatively easy to use. The videos look clear well, except for at night, and except for the substantial black spot on the lower middle of all videos. That is the one complaint I have about this video camera. It came with a foreign object somewhere internal to the lens assembly. (I know, I know. Someone will say, in that annoying, whiny tone, "Did you try cleaning off the outside of the lens?" Yes, my complex, highly sophisticated thought processes were even able to fathom both of those possibilities that it could have been something EXTERNAL as well as internal.) If it bothered me that much, I would return it. However, I only bought it to document any incidents that occurred while I am driving. And for that purpose, I just don't care that much about the black spot.

The sound quality is very good, except when the level of sound being recorded gets too high for example, loud music that I am listening to while I drive. For loud music, the playback sound is very distorted because of limiting (clipping) during recording. However, for conversation in the car, it sounds very clear.

When the device is plugged into a computer (in my case, a Mac), there are 3 options that come up on the video camera screen: 1) MSC, 2) CHARGE, or 3) OPEN. It wasn't obvious to me, but the 'MSC' option is what causes the video camera to be recognized by the computer. After selection of 'MSC', the 'EOS_DIGITAL' icon appears on my desktop and 2 folders below that level are the video files in .mov format.

The size of the video files is determined by a menu option on the video camera. You can select 512, 256 or 128 MByte. Thus the maximum file size is 512 MByte, which is a recording time of 8 minutes, 49 seconds for the highest image quality (1920 x 1080). So, while the camera is recording, when that file size is reached, the video camera automatically creates a new file. So, for example, say I record for one hour. That is 3600 seconds. A 512 MByte file is 8 minutes, 49 seconds in length, or 529 seconds. So if I divide 3600 by 529, the result is 6.805293. That means that my 1 hour recording will result in 6 files that are 8 minutes and 49 seconds in length, and 1 file that is (0.802593)x(529) = 426 seconds (or 7 minutes, 10 seconds) in length. So using a 32 GByte SD card, for highest video quality, the total recording time would be approximately:

(32 GB)/(512 MB/529 seconds) = 33062.5 seconds, or 9 hours, 11 minutes (if I did my math correctly).

What I haven't verified is that the camera will delete old files when the SD card becomes full. As I now look through the not-so-easy-to-understand manual, I see an option for 'RECYCLE'. The options are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15 minutes, or OFF. So it may be the case that once the SD card gets full, the video camera will stop recording (if the OFF option is selected).

So in conclusion, except for the black spot on all of my videos, I am happy with the purchase. It does what it was designed to do for a good price. If it wasn't for the foreign object in the lens assembly, I would have given it 5 stars.

10/21/2012 Update:

Last night when I simply tried to attach the suction cup to my windshield, the suction cup assembly broke. There goes my 4 star rating. I think I would have to rate it 2 star now.

12/19/2012 Update:

I contacted Yorktek LLC, asking if they could send me a new suction cup assembly. They did not have the suction cup assemblies apart from the video camera, so they graciously sent me a new video cam unit, including suction cup assembly (after I returned the original). Well, I have been using it for close to 2 months now, trying to be gentle when mounting/dismounting the suction cup assembly. Well, last night the second one broke while I tried mounting it on my windshield. My conclusion is that the strength of the plastic assembly right at the suction cup is inadequate to perform the intended function. It is very thin and fragile. Now I have to figure out another way to mount it possibly on my rearview mirror. There goes my 2 star rating down to a 1 star.

Camera bought from seller "Loftek" is a fake. The version on the manual is HDC-500. The settings in the menu are also different from the real F500LHD.

The real F500LHD has a firmware that ends in "T2L-KH" that can be updated. The company has released about 10 updates total for this camera model, the newest being V8.9 T2L-KH.

The F500LHD is a good camera, maybe the knock off version is also good. But with the price point of the knock off the same as the original, I rather just get the original version. Would recommend trying another seller on Amazon other than Loftek and maybe you'll get lucky.

WirthCo 20039 Battery Doctor Sport Charger

WirthCo 20039 Battery Doctor Sport ChargerI have used the charger for a few years with no problems. I use it on my MC which I only ride once a month or so. It keeps the battery charged so it starts perfectly. Returned a B&D charged as it overcharged my Jeeps battery and ordered another Battery Doc charger. You get what you pay for.

Exactly what I expected; no more, no less. Keeps my motorcycle alive over the winter. That's what it's supposed to do.

I've owned three of these chargers. The first one became part of the deal when I sold a motorcycle, the second one became part of the deal when I sold a boat. I bought this one for my daughter's motorcycle when she moves out, it will go with her and I'll buy another one. They are excellent for keeping a vehicle battery charged and ready to go, especially if you are not using it every day. Simple to use and seem to last forever. Well worth the money!

Energizer EN1100 Power Inverter, 1100-watt

ENERGIZER 500W Power Inverter 12V DC cigarette lighter or battery clips to 120 Volt AC with 2 USB ports 2.1A shared compatible with iPad iPhone & moreWith everything, you will never know what might happen such as loss of electricity. I wanted something that would charge the few electrical items that I have if that ever happens. This is my first power inverter, so far the EN900 works great. The LCD display tells me how much is being charged and I can charge 4 device at the same time. Doesn't have that annoying sound that my laptop cooler makes when its on, which is good. Also I love that it has 2 usb ports that I can charge with. Best of all it doesn't weigh that much maybe over 2lbs this way I can take it to go. Hopefully I wont have to use it but they do have a 2yrs warranty, not sure what it covers yet since I haven't read the warranty part , still just testing this baby out. Getting this was a good decision because its cheaper then getting a generator that's big and bulky, which I don't have room for.

Ordered this product about a month ago, it came quickly and very high quality. I really like it just as described. And it was needed, It is in full use.

I bought this because I'm a photographer on the go. I thought this might help me out but I didn't know how truly handy this item would be. I love the cool looking design. I picked this base on the design out of a few other choices and it definitely didn't disappoint. I really love the handy LCD screen as well....charged laptop on the go a few times, works like a charm. I keep it in my car for all emergency; cellphone, laptop, camera, lights. When any of my electrical item is out of juice I just plug this in and I'm good to go. What a life-saver and a must have for those using lots of electrical equipment on the go! Heck, it's even good for everyday use if you tend to bring your computer along often.

6 Piece Value Combo Accessory Bundle Kit: Black Silicone Skin Case Cover + Car Charger + Travel Cha

6 Piece Value Combo Accessory Bundle Kit: Black Silicone Skin Case Cover + Car Charger + Travel Charger + USB Data Sync Cable + Armband + Belt Clip for Sony Walkman A726/A728/A729 Series MP3 Player
  • Package comes with 6 essential pieces of accessories for your Sony Walkman
  • Include: One black silicone skin, One USB data cable, One travel wall charger
  • One automobile car charger, One adjustable armband, One belt clip

I bought this kit for the case and figured anything else that came with it would be cheap or barely usuable. Surprisingly, the whole kit is a real value. The case is a snug fit and provides needed protection for my NWZ-A728 Walkman. The two chargers (AC and car) are very handy since I don't have to boot up my laptop each time to charge the Walkman. The extra USB cable is great since I can now leave one at home and one at work. I use the armband for those times I'm using the Walkman on a treadmill.

The only item that is so-so in the bundle is the beltclip. For some reason, it's white everything else in the kit is black. So of course, the clip clashes with the black case. The only thing missing from this combo kit is a screen protector but you can't have everything. And since Sony tends to use proprietary ports, it's not like you'll find a lot of options for generic, compatible cables elsewhere. So all-in-all, I'm quite pleased with the purchase. Recommended.

Very happy with all items from this combo. It has been very helpful to have back up charges and cables for the walkman since I travel for work quite frequently.

The sole reason I bought this kit was for the battery charger...which happens to work just as I had hoped. The other items I really didn't need.

I couldn't beat the cost either...Sony charges 3 times for a charger alone, so the cost was well worth it.

Both the hard and soft cases are basically junk. Either they shipped the wrong ones ? or these are poorly designed. Only half the buttons are accessible with the soft case. The hard case does not secure the Walkman, it just slides around inside and the lower half of the control buttons are covered.

Car Charger for Samsung Transform

Car Charger for Samsung TransformI give it a 4 out of 5. It was a great price compared to stores, it got to me in a speedy time, the only bad thing is sometimes when its plugged in it has to be put a certain way to charge other than that its a life saver. Thankyou

i was happy with how fast the charger arrived and loved the price.the only thing is the adapter has a hard time staying in the cigarette lighter in the car.it works but any kind of movement the charger comes out of the hole,,it does its purpose as long as it is not touched and we dont hit a bump..but for the price i can live with that small bit of inconvenience

TomTom Rider 2 GPS Navigator for Motorcycles and Scooters

TomTom Rider 2 GPS Navigator for Motorcycles and Scooters
  • Tomtom Rider Is One Of The Smartest Navigation Solutions For Motorcycles.
  • Rugged Waterproof Device
  • Anti-Glare Screen
  • Integrated Sun Visor, And Gloves-On Operation
  • Navigation Instructions Are Spoken Via In-Helmet Cardo Scala-Rider

I received this unit for Christmas primarily for my bike, but once I purchase the car mount adapter it will be used in the car as well.

This is an excellent unit, to say the least. One reviewer mentioned that it's too difficult to turn the unit onI say "hogwash". The pushbutton is stiff, yes, but that's done to keep the unit from turning on accidentally while in your jacket pocket or carry bag (and with a touch screen, you can well imagine how much mischief one could accidentally create if it turned on without your knowledge). Ditto with the Scala Rider headsetyou don't want the thing accidentally turning on, running the battery down, do you?

Another reviewer mentioned that it doesn't have a "speedometer" or trip meter functionit most certainly does have a speedometer, and what I assume is the "trip meter"but since TomTom set the unit from the factory to eliminate as much extraneous information as possible, you have to activate it in the menus. Once that has been activated, it'll be there until you turn that feature off. In fact, there are a great number of features you can turn on and off in the menus.

I found the documentation to be adequate, and to the point. The printed documentation is to get you up to speed until you charge the units and turn them onit's easy sailing after that. The unit is very easy to use, and it has tutorials right on the unit, so in my opinion further paper documentation is rather redundantactually, I think it's pretty smart on TomTom's part to include tutorials on the unit itself rather than supply a printed bookthat way I don't have to carry around the book, as all of the information is already on the unit! They really don't say much about the bike power cable, but I can certainly understand whyit's not possible to provide information about every bike out there, and if you aren't familiar enough with your bike, or can't figure out how to install it, it's probably best to get someone who is (like your bike dealer) to do the installation.

I've got a Motorolla Razr phone, and the TomTom easily hooked up to my phone via Bluetooth, and it painlessly downloaded all of my phone numbers I have stored on the phone (thank you for providing this helpful feature!).

I do wish that it gave the street name when it gives you instructions to turn, but I soon got used to how it worksnot only does the display give you very clear instructions on where to turn, it also gives you the street name. Once you get used to it, it's easy. But I would like the option of hearing the street name (my PDA does, but the map display isn't as easy to see as the TomTom). While playing with the unit as my father-in-law drove the car, I discovered one potential issue with having the street name spoken to youwhat happens when the street name is changed, but your maps haven't been updated? If you rely on the spoken street name, you might miss itit's best to take a glance at the screen to make sure you're taking the correct turn (I found one such roadthe name has recently been changed, but the map showed the old name instead). Still, I'd prefer to have it spoken, and visually double-check the map.

Overall, I give the TomTom an A-. TomTom, if you're reading this, I'll give you an A+ if you guys update the software so that it'll give you the street name by voicethen you'll have the best bike GPS available! However, I'd still buy the unit as is. It would just increase the functionality by including this feature.

My wife gave me this unit for Christmas. She's a doll and I love her very much, but she was not very versed about what to shop for or expect from a GPS unit. I've now used the unit several hours during trips, utilizing the blue tooth connectivity with my cell phone and the included headset within my helmet. Ive also used it in the car a lot. They said this unit was designed by motorcyclists, but obviously the bikers TomTom consulted knew very little about the minimum expectations for features required in a decent GPS unit...especially one costing this much.

I am going to break-down my review into two parts....what it has that is good...and what it lacks that makes it a non-competitive GPS unit in the US. I've used GPS technology at work and at play for years. Most of my background with consumer-grade GPS units is with the Garmin brand. So it is to that brand that I will make most of my comparisons because Garmin, for the most part, has it right and does it right! (imho)I have no financial or personal relationship with Garmin, whatsoever.

OK..first for the positive...it's water resistant/proof (don't really know about the proof part cause I havent had it in the pouring rain yet)...Fast processor and fast acquisition of the GPS constellation...good screen graphics and brightness...decent battery life...sensitive touch screen technology....blue tooth capable...can download your Outlook contact database....decent internal memory...heavy duty Ram mounting hardware for your bikes handle bars....USB connectivity to your computer for map downloads, etc....and if you are into directions from the unit, it has a few male and female voices from which to choose.

Now for the features it should have but does not:

-Should have a trip computer with trip parameters such as max speed, average moving speed, time moving, time sitting still, odometer, trip odometer, vertical and horizontal elevation, etc. None of this exists on the tomtom rider.

-Should leave a track, or a bread crumb trail, as you ride along. Not available on the TTRider. This is a real disappointment.

-Should have larger fonts for speed, arrival time, etc. Way too small to have to deal with on a motorcycle...even when set to the largest font.

-Should not "snap" to the nearest road to fool you into thinking their base map is accurate...because it is not that accurate in reality.

-Should come with a cig lighter plug for powering, but it does not.

-Does not allow any preference setting while in motion. You must stop before you can do anything with this unit outside of a few limited functions. Excuse: a safety feature

-Cannot make a call while moving. You can only recieve calls while moving. What's that about???? (yea I know, safety)

Has annoying icons on the screen when the phone and headset are not connected and there is no way to get them off the screen!!

-Gives you no options as far as screen orientation relating to your travel direction...always points you up. Thats ok most of the time, but we deserve to have a choice in this price class.

-Can fall off the ball mount and, if not tethered to the bike or mounting base, it will hit the ground and will be lost.

No elevation available...for those of us that ride in mountains and are use to seeing this on gps units, it's certainly an oversight by the TTRider. GPS derived elevation is not that accurate in the first place, but readings are relative and give a pretty good indication of elevation changes as you ride.

Direct sunlight makes the screen totally INVISIBLE.

If I could send it back to Amazon I would. I plan to give it to by wife for her car and purchase a gps unit that more closely fits my needs as a touring motorcyclist and as a consumer that refuses to settle for inadequate and poorly designed products.

1. I have owned a Rider for more than 18 months.

2. The first one I had, the dock broke in Texas while I was riding Route 66.

3. I called TomTom from Texas (I live in Calif) and asked them to FedEx a new one.

They said no can do.

4. Once home, TomTom sent me a new Dock, but... it took them 1 month to get it to me.

5. After a while I started to notice that the Rider was not charging while in the dock and on my bike.

6. They asked me to send them my Rider back with all the accessories.

7. Then after 4 weeks, they sent me a new Rider, with no charger and no accessories.

8. The asked me to send it back.

8. After another 4 weeks, they sent me another.... new Rider... with all the accessories.

9. The dock didn't charge.

10. After another week, they sent me a new dock. It works.

There are known issues with the docks and charging, but TomTom won't admit it.

It's manufacturering issue. I'll let you guess where they are made.

The Tom Tom rider is good, easy to use. But if anything goes wrong, you'll be waiting many weeks for a replacement.

Ad of course the wait time on the phone, plan on an hour with each call.

I probably would NOT buy another one.

I bought this product from Amazon and received it 4-days ago. In the last 4-days, I have been in contact with TomTom by phone and email trying not only to get detailed information about the product, but also trying to get help with it. This is by far the worst motorcycle GPS on the market.

The Pro's: (there is only one)

1) They have upgraded the headset to the Cardo Scala Q2.

The Con's:

1) The screen is unreadable outside either in the sunlight or on overcast days. It looks completely white washed. There are no settings to resolve this on the unit.

2) The documentation included is for the original Rider, not the Rider 2nd Edition.

3) The screen is unreadable outside

4) There is no documentation available from TomTom or from RAM-Mount for the motorcycle mount that is included.

5) The screen is unreadable outside

6) TomTom's 30-day map guarantee only works if you call and harass them about it. Then you must fax or email proof of purchase before they will comply with there own guarantee.

7) The screen is unreadable outside

8) The power button is ridiculously hard to operate

9) The screen is unreadable outside

10) THE SCREEN IS UNREADABLE OUTSIDE!!!!!!!

So, in my opinion I can only believe that people who rate this highly either ride only at dusk, or during the nighttime. Either that, or they want everyone to make the same mistake they did, so they don't feel like they are the only one's that were taken for their money.

Oh, and did you get it yet?

THE SCREEN IS UNREADABLE OUTSIDE!

The whole purpose of the unit is to use it outside on a motorcycle!

I have owned a TomTom GO910 for a few years, and was actually very pleased with it except for the cost. But I will NEVER purchase another TomTom device after dealing with the company over the last 4-days.

My recommendations would be to please do your research online in advance. The TomTom Rider and the TomTom Rider 2nd Edition are pure crap, because there SCREENS ARE NOT READABLE OUTSIDE! Which itself is ridiculous as they were specifically designed for motorcycles!

Do yourself a huge favor, buy the Garmin Nuvi 550 instead! It's waterproof with an 8-hour rechargeable and replaceable lithium battery! Plus, its only half the price of the all too overpriced Zumo model! Wanna save even more money, buy the Garmin Nuvi 500. Again, waterproof with an 8-hour rechargeable and replaceable lithium battery. The only difference between it and the Nuvi 550 are the maps. The lower 48 vs. all of North America.

I bought the Rider 2 GPS last summer, to tour the south of France, from Paris. I'd travelled before with maps, sometimes missing offramps out of confusion (freeway signs here are only really good if you're a local, in which case you don't need them in the first place!!). After having used a TomTom GPS in a rental car to go to Italy, I decided to get one for my Speed Triple, for the pleasure of being guided from "above". The decision was made a week before my departure, so I didn't really have time to investigate the market. I discovered only Garmin & TomTom have bike-specific models, and that both were incredibly expensive compared to car units. Being used to, and pleased with the TomTom interface, I decided to buy TT. The first Rider 2 I bought would not connect to my Motorola Razr V3i, despite the help from the sales reps, and would refuse to turn on, even fully charged. After 3 (THREE!!) trade-ins, I had to leave for my 1 1/2 month vacation with my current unit, picked up the same morning.

My first beef was to find that not only would it start trying connecting to my V3i, then fail, but I'd also have to use the cellular connection to obtain the updates, and 1 month trial of various options I'D PAID FOR!! This is totally stupid. If you're going to have to use a PC to save your SD card, let the PC handle further downloads and updates!!! It doesn't take being a racket science wiz to understand a DSL connection is more reliable than a cellular. Also, the fact you have to pay for updates, and options that should be standard, is preposterous.

My second problem, is the fact that as long as you're moving, you cannot access/change routing information. That's totally stupid too. Even at walking speeds, the unit will accept no change of route, or any other modification. When you're on the freeway, or on city streets with no place to stop, this is really aggravating. I know it's supposedly for security reasons, but changing your destination to a favorite isn't going to put you in danger in most cases, stopping and starting on a road close to heavy traffic will. In any case, you can tap all you want on a car unit, so security obviously isn't a valid reason. In any case, I hate when an appliance is set to restrain my use of it, and not let me decide for myself when/if what I do is safe.

3rd beef: sometimes, maps are obsolete from the start. When driving through Italy, I was directed to turn right on a freeway, in the middle of... fields!!! There was an offramp on my screen, miles from any actual offramps. Only corn fields, which had obviously been there for years, and weren't going to disappear in favor of a new road overnight. Really scary when you're on a schedule..

Maybe I should have listed first the On/Off button. I have very strong arms & fingers, but the time & pressure (and numerous attempts) it takes to turn it on hurts my fingers each time. Needless to even think of asking my girlfriend to do it...

The last unnicety I can think of right now, is the fact, if you're typing an address, the streets that pop up aren't entirely legible on the screen. It appears there's no way to view further past the first letters. This is really a bummer in France, where streets precede their name. Example: if you're looking for an address on Boulevard du General De Gaulle, all that appears on the screen is "Boulevard du Genera", so you have to type each and every letter in the name, or you'll get directed to another general's name, and, as there's no "back" function, you'll have to go through the whole itinerary planning procedure again to try to get it right. Total lack of user-friendliness, for a unit that's supposed to be usable by bikers, with gloves on.

On the upside, missing an exit leads the unit to recalculate another itinerary very quickly, the reason exactly I'd bought a GPS. Arrival times are incredibly accurate, even on long trips. Screen maps are legible. The RAM fixing system is great, and solid, but props there go to RAM, not TomTom. The Scala system works fine, and is reasonably audible, although the choice of a higher pitched female voice, on full volume is a must, if you're going to be riding over 100 mph.

If I'd had more time to choose, I'd have bought the Garmin Zumo instead. The price is too high for a GPS that's so poorly engineered. It does work nicely when it's all set up correctly, but not being able to take phone calls, use paid for updates, or use your PC to download data is unacceptable.
