After purchasing an off-brand version of this product and being *very* disappointed, I decided to spring for the real thing. Have not had any problems with powering (no shorts, which seems prevalent in the off-brands). I also like that it has 2-USB ports for those times when I have my iPod or have another person in the car who needs to charge their phone.
