I haven't tested this with a Mac, because I don't use Macs, so it might be good for that environment, but I did test it with two of my Windows 7 machines. The first cable they sent me was not recognized as a valid USB port on one machine and had NO response from the other. The only reason I am giving this two stars, is that it would charge the ipod 4, even if syncing was not possible. I wrote an email to the vendor and they sent me a second sample. The second one was completely useless, even as a charging cable. I did get a refund through Amazon, so if you want to roll the dice and try it with your computer, be my guest! Even though I am a great buyer of many third party cables etc. I think in this case you are probably better off just biting the bullet and getting original Apple cables, since they DO work in all environments.
