USB Sync & Charge Cradle (with AC Charger) for Motorola Droid

I hope for Orion Gadget's sake that this is a bad example.
The dock will not charge in any configuration, whether connected to the PC or not.
It actually will instantly drain the battery to 20%. And the Weather bug application will freeze and not come back. It has been 3 days and many restarts. Even removing the battery will not bring back the Weather bug app.
I hope this dock has not done permanent damage to my droid

Neither the charger nor the accompanied power cord is a Garmin product, and they are not Garmin approved or compatible. If you must use an AC wall charger, get one that is approved by Garmin, rather than waste your time and money on a piece of Made-in-China trash (so called, because that's where I put them--in the trash--rather than waste more than they are worth on the cost of a return).Just like others already said, the USB travel charger fails to charge Garmin Nuvi as it's claimed. Actually, I consider myself lucky it didn't damage my Garmin. Plug-in car charger is a low quality device. The Bargaincell customer service support is slow and clueless. The cost of shipping back and forth is more than the cost you pay for the merchandise. The products were exactly as stated and are working fine. Glad to have chargers both for inside and on the road.

Motorola MT350R Giant MT350R FRS Weatherproof Two-Way - 35 Mile Radio Pack - Orange

- With an IP-54 rating, the MT series flaunts its weatherproof ID design making it ideal for protection not only from dust, but from wet weather conditions.
- The NOAA channels provide emergency alerts including tornadoes, winter storms, severe thunderstorms, flash floods, emergency evacuations and Amber Alerts.
- Use the provided mini-USB charger for portable convenience, great for charging at home or to take along to recharge in a hotel.
- The VibraCall silent vibrating ringer is especially useful for locations where ringing can be intrusive.
- MT350R includes: 2 radios, 2 NiMH rechargeable battery packs, 2 belt clips, 1 Y cable wall adapter with 2 mini-USB connectors, 1 Emergency Preparedness checklist sheet, 1 user guide, 1 accessories sheet.
I've been around the block with consumer-grade two-way radios that I use for backpacking, camping and general Boy Scout activities. I've tried Uniden, Midland and Motorola, but always come back to Motorola. Midlands broke and Unidens don't have great range and can't produce clear enough audio for me.
I learned after hobbling along with my last non-Moto set (Uniden G-227) that Motorola really is the way to go for clarity, range and features. Audio clarity is important to me because there's nothing more maddening than muddy audio and having to ask the person on the other end to keep repeating until you can understand what they've said.
PROS:
* Robust design.
* Bright color makes it harder to lose.
* Waterproof from basic elements. Living in Florida, this is important.
* Great audio clarity.
* Decent range (certainly not 35 miles, but a more realistic one-mile+ range in forested and flat terrain).
* Richly featured for a consumer radio.
* PTT power adjustable buttons (one H, one L) means no more fidgeting with menu settings when you need higher power transmissions.
* Comes with a rechargeable battery pack for each radio.
* Emergency LED light is very handy.
* NOAA weather receiver.
* USB chargeable.
CONS:
* Currently lacks charging station (allegedly to be released soon, according to Motorola).
* Wish it had a carrying case instead of the plastic belt clip.
* Wish it had more range in typical conditions, but this is not a pro radio set.
I'm a realist when it comes to consumer two-way radios. I don't expect an actual 35-mile range and don't actually need 35 miles. That's what cell phones are for, but of course, if you are in a very remote area, a cell signal may not be available.
I was impressed with the menu of features on this radio and really needed to move up to a radio with NOAA weather capabilities. When you are one of the adults responsible for as many as 75 boys on an outing, you really need to be on alert for their safety. I like the overall quality of the radio and have never been disappointed with a Moto two-way. I still have my Talkabout 250, which has been in use for close to 10 trouble-free years now. It's still crystal-clear and transmits well for a compact FRS radio, which was another reason why I came back to and will remain with Motorola.
This radio set deserves five stars for its performance and deep feature list, but more importantly, for me, being able to hear transmissions clearly is a key element. I'm happy with this radio for what it is: an effective communications tool.
** 12/21/2012 UPDATE **
Not changing the five stars rating, especially after taking the radios camping in dense woodlands this past weekend. My daughter went hiking with her girlfriend and was well beyond a mile away when she called me on the radio. Her voice was loud and crystal clear. She also found the built-in LED light very helpful when she couldn't find her own flashlight. Honestly, I didn't think much about the radio's emergency light, but it came in handy!

As advertised they are truly waterproof. A teenager dropped one overboard the first week I owned these units. IT FLOATS! (thank you Lord)Communication is crisp and clear. VOX operation works very well.
To all who are new to quality two way communication be aware.....
YOU NEED A LICENSE TO OPERATE THESE UNITS ON HIGH POWER CHANNELS!
Radio licensing is a painless function that can be done online.
If you need quality communication these are the radios.I've been a happy Motorola FRS radio customer for years. I purchased my FRS radios before consumer GMRS radios were even available in mass retail. My 'old' FRS radios still work, but our family has expanded and I wanted to add a couple more radios to our cache of outdoor adventure gear.
I'm happy with the MT350R radios. We use when skiing, so I'm happy they're weather-proofed. We also use the lanyard loop and wear under our jackets, so I'm happy weather-proof means (to me) sweat-proof under a coat. I like the rechargeable batteries, with the option of using alkaline batteries. These offer options for turning on lots of beeps and noises, and I shut all of that off because I just don't find it to be that useful. I also tend to stay on the lower-power FRS channels and avoid the higher-power GMRS channels, not only for battery savings, but because 35-miles just isn't very realistic. Whether using lowor high-power channels, line-of-site communication with the other radios in our party is all you get. If you can see where the other people are -waiting at the bottom of the slope, at the top of the next ridgeline, your belayer on a climb, etc. -then these will work well. But, they can't transmit through mountains.
These do exactly what I need, and I have no regrets about this purchase. The color shown in the photo appears more orange, which is what I wanted. The actual product color looks like school-bus yellow.

Love them! I bought a pair of these walkie-talkies for my boys (ages 4 and 6), knowing that the novelty would wear off pretty quickly for them, and I'd be left with a decent pair of radios for driving, hunting, fishing and other cool activities. But, man... I didn't know how great these things were when I ordered them.Their range and clarity is startling. They have a built in LED flashlight that is really handy and more bells and whistles than I'll ever use. They are weatherproof, which has already come in handy when one of my knuckleheaded ankle-biters left his radio in the backyard where it was hit with our sprinklers, a light rain shower and a massive amount of dew on one night and a hard frost the next. I found the radio, turned it on and it worked like a charm.
The only problem so far is how much my boys LOVE these things. I may never get to put them in my "Outdoor" bag as I'd hoped when I ordered them.
They are big, easily the size of a full-grown man's hand, and they are rechargeable. In a perfect world, I'd like them to be a bit more compact and allow me to replace the batteries rather than recharge them (when I'm camping or fishing, I have access to loose batteries, but no electricity for charging.). But, these are still outstanding consumer-level radios that won't disappoint.I am taking two star because I ordered these specifically for the orange color and received yellow. the sound quality is crystal clear, the NOAA weather feature works great and has 12 weather channels to select from for best quality. You can customize the send receive chirps, and they are splash proof but i wouldn't submerge them. The other star i am taking is the belt clip is very soft and basically will just stretch open if pulled gently. One other nice option are the two PTT buttons, one is low power for relatively close range, maximum battery life and will operate at 0.5 watt, the top button is Hi power ( that's why its on top) and operates at 1.5 Watt for greater distances or crowded areas.

This product is exactly what I was looking for. Since I'm retired and don't drive as much, my car battery dying was a common occurence. My battery was checked out by my dealer and was told it only needed to be charged. I researched several battery chargers and settled on the Charge Master due to my brother who has three of them for three cars and has been very happy with them for years. So far for me it's been an excellent product.Read Best Reviews of Charge Master Automatic Battery Charger, Maintainer & Conditioner Here

American Hunter Economy Solar Charger

There were no instructions or specs provided for the unit. It is not clear how the mounting bracket should be installed. This unit may be fine indoors, in a car, or a dry environment.,but I doubt it will be found very durable in weather.
On the plus side, the unit appears to have more cell and may generate more amps than the unit photoed. Also, shipping was very, very, fast. Probably faster than anything I have ever ordered. In less than 4 days and it was at my front door.

Xantrex Charge Controller for DC Charging Sources - 35 Amp, Model# C35

I would love to get the remote meter on it ASAP!!
The other thing about this controller is how easy it is to change the pentometer settings. Litterally 4 screws and your in.
One thing they don't mention in the description is the auto-off at night. If you're using a PV array, it will automatically disconnect the array at night so NO electricity leaks back from the batteries (even with diodes installed). In the morning, as soon as it detects electricity from the panals, it will turn back on.
In conclusion, being able to control the current and voltage going into the battery really made me spring for this one. The durable construction and easy controls make it the best controller I've reviewed! I would recommend it to anyone starting with solar, wind, and hydro. If it's too small for you, there's the C40 and C60, which are almost identical.I bought this a little while ago but now I finally have it installed. It was exactly what I needed for my barn. It was easy to wire and the instruction manual solved all of the issues you could ever imagine. I had my led light in backwards and that was in the troubleshoot. Xantrex seems like a good company to deal with in my opinion. Right now I just have one 7 amp panel so I have plenty of room to grow with this. I can't wait to add on the digital display. and I will probably go with a xantrex inverter too.
Buy Xantrex Charge Controller for DC Charging Sources - 35 Amp, Model# C35 Now
Perfectly designed and built. It does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do: Charge and maintain your expensive batteries. Totally automatic and no need for bells and whistles. All the quality is inside the box. I've purchased more than 20 over the years for solar installations and never had a problem with any of them. The instruction manual is extensive and well written. There are units out there with cute led readout displays and flashing lights however, they are mostly plastic, under-rated and flimsy in construction. The Xantrex units are built for safe and automatic charging of your expensive solar panel/battery installation. The connection lugs/terminals are large enough to get a good connection with wires as low as 4 gauge, making the installation clean and capable. Install it and forget it. I like that. I give it a 10.Read Best Reviews of Xantrex Charge Controller for DC Charging Sources - 35 Amp, Model# C35 Here
The only drawback is no digital readout. there is one available for it but it nearly doubles theprice. A digital readout is not a necessity. A blinking light tells you the battery's general
state of charge and you can always check every thing with a volt meter.
The ability to adjust float and charge voltages, and a equalization mode (All important for
long-term battery health) make this controller an excellent buy
Want Xantrex Charge Controller for DC Charging Sources - 35 Amp, Model# C35 Discount?
I bought the c40 charge controller in August 2011 for use on a small solar system. It replaced a c35 that I had used for at least 10 years.Since installing the new controller I have had minor but continuing problems with the batteries. At the end of the day when I would expect the voltage to be at about 12.6 it was usually 12.3 or 12.2. Finally, I got two digital voltmeters and used each to measure the voltage of the batteries at rest. The readings from each one were about 0.4 volts higher than the meter on the c40. When the battery is close to fully charged the voltage on the c40 meter is at the set point of the potentiometer in the c40. So it is not clear to me whether this means the charger was overcharging the batteries or charging them properly and simply reporting the voltage incorrectly.
All this is irrelevant to the point I want to make. I'd like to find out an answer to my question but as far as I can tell Xantrex doesn't even provide on-line support or even a FAQ sheet for this controller (or any other). In fact, it is not even clear from their website that they even sell this item.
If it weren't for this rather important deficiency in Xantrex's product service I'd give the charger four or five stars. But because of the apparent absence of any support I give it three or two.

Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor

With the engine running the instrument constantly displays battery condition with an LED light; amber when marginal, red if the battery is discharging. A green light indicates a correctly functioning electrical system. All is well with both battery and, most importantly, the alternator.
The Equus is also an accurate voltmeter. Digital read-outs give exact voltage in the electrical system. Potential alternator problems or a failing battery will be indicated by below normal voltages, plus an amber or red light. Extra information is a battery icon graphically showing total battery charge. Tending towards erratic read-outs, and therefore unreliability, it is not the unit's best feature.
Equus's instruction card is easy to understand. The unit is well made, sturdy, easy to connect and to transfer to any 12 volt system not having its own voltmeter. Also, as a supplemental monitor in an RV, or a bigger boat with a remote 12 Volt outlet in a sleeping area far from the main instrument panel, overall battery condition condition can be monitored while camping or at anchor.
Good value for money; very useful. From personal use, recommended.
Buy Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor Now
The Honda 2005 civic has a marginal charging system. This meter is ideal for determining when it is time to turn off the radio to reduce load on the alternator. Voltage reading is very accurate, much better than 1% as measured against a small Beckman pocket meter, which in turn has been checked against a Powerex Wizard aa cell charger. Warning lights function well. Some things to note when using this tester: Standard voltage of a 12 volt battery is 12.6 volts. Some deep cycle absorbed glass mat batteries will read 12.8. This is after loading the battery by turning on the headlights for 10 seconds, to remove surface charge. Note that while the lights are on, the voltage drops quickly at first, then the voltage stabilizes. Turning off the lights causes the voltage to rise again gradually. After a few minutes the voltage will stop rising. If the voltage settles at 12.6 (or 12.8 for AGM battery) battery is charged, assuming that the battery is near 68 degrees F. Lower temps raise the voltage, higher temps lower the voltage. For a standard battery figure about 12.66 volts at 32 F and 12.54 volts at 104 F battery temperature, not air temperature.
After a car has been running for awhile with no lights, radio, wipers, AC, heat or window defroster, the alternator may cycle letting the battery voltage drop for a while before kicking in. This is OK provided the charging is steady shortly after turning on the lights. An intermittant alternator will cause the red light to turn on and off when headlights are on.
The bar graph for battery condition is not very useful as the meter has only voltage information.
The instructions do not state that this tester is for negative ground cars only, a small quibble as positive ground is not common.
Had I bought this device six months ago I could have avoided killing a brand new battery in six months.
UPDATE: Still working fine as of May 21, 2013

I purchasted this unit to use in a small aircraft that has no built in battery monitor. The unit failed within one hour of use.
It was too cheap to bother to send back so I took it apart.
I found two loose screws holding the circuit board and display in place and a bad solder joint.
I repaired the solder joint and tightened the screws and the unit has been working fine ever since.
Unless you are an Electronic Engineer like me I would not recomend this unit.
Strangely enough, the internal components appeared to be high guality.
It was not assembled correctly.
It's OK if it works.

just got the monitor from amazon based on the reviews here. the actual device is slightly different from it looks in the picture, with rounder edges. i guess the new product has been revised. also the protective plastic film is extremeply easy to peel off, a bit too easy i would say. or it might have something to do with the weather. here in singapore it's 30C all the time. the device has good build quality. the monitor can show two different tiny icons above voltage reading, under the battery and charging modes. the LCD is clear with bright blue backlight. basically it doesnt cost arm or leg but does all i expected. i will leave it plug in all the time in my car. i am sure i will be alerted by the unusual low voltage one day to realise the time to replace my battery. that will be the time i can recover the cost of this product by saving the expensive recovery service.Friday, January 31, 2014

Goal Zero 19004 Nomad 7 / Rockout Combo

As far as the speaker goes, the sound is AWFUL out of the box. As others have mentioned in their reviews of these speakers, the cones are covered by a heavy cardboard material. I simply took a flathead screwdriver and used it to break the glue seal around the edge of speaker that adheres it to the case. After that, I used the flathead to pry out the speaker from the case. From there you can see the inside of the casing is lined with cardboard, and on that cardboard, there's a fine indentation where the speakers are. I used a boxcutter to cut circles out where the speaker cones are. Place the speakers back in the casing and you're good to go. One note about this modification is that obviously the speakers are more than likely no longer "water resistant" as originally advertised.
All in all, very happy with the purchase. I docked one star for the speakers being horrible as they were out of the box.I purchased the Nomad 7 / Rockout Combo from Amazon about one month ago and wanted to test it before commenting. It weighed 370 gms / 13.1 oz. on the kitchen scale without any cables. Just like the other Goal Zero products it is well designed and well made using quality materials. If taken care of should last decades (do not throw on the floor or drive the truck over it, like the You Tube videos). It is nice to see the solar panel can take the abuse if an accident happens.
The solar panels are mounted to a heavy plastic sheet which gives the rigidity needed to protect the thin brittle solar cells (think a thin potato chip strength). The fronts of the solar panels are covered with an unknown clear plastic reminiscent of Tedlar. The outer shell is covered in a material that looks and feels like Cordura, so it should wear very well, most quality backpacks are made of this material. The built-in pouch is a perfect size for the Guide 10 and all but the 12 volt car lighter adapter (which could be carried if you plug it in the regulator / converter and place the large end between the pouch and regulator. I find it is best to carry it externally if you need it. I fold the flap with the regulator / charger behind the solar panel when charging to keep the electronics in the shade. Eight loops (not bungee cord loops) all around the Nomad 7 allow many ways to attach the unit to a pack or sticks for charging. It was easy to attach to my Maxpedition pack with Paracord 550 and charge while I was walking.
How does it work? Surprisingly well! I did a lot tests in the Arizona sun in July and August it held up well to sun intensity and heat. This is our monsoon season which means clouds and rain once in a while (intermittent sunlight). The Nomad 7 charged 50 NiMH batteries in the Guide 10 very well under all kinds of sky conditions. Even an overcast sky where the panel did not cast a shadow it still recharged low NiMH batteries in about 6 hours. Using the USB adaptor charged low tech LG cellphone in an hour in normal sunlight (it also charged cellphone using 12V 4W lighter adaptor). So far I have been able to charge a digital camera, Kaito Voyager radio, VHF / UHF transceiver and the Guide 10 in reasonable times. It allows you to use your equipment more since you can now recharge in the field and not be so concerned with conserving battery power.
As far as the Rockout Speaker goes, for the size they sound very good with my player. They charge up in an hour with the Nomad 7 Solar Panel. If weight and volume are considerations in a backpack, then you might leave them behind and use earbuds. Otherwise, they are great to have along as a luxury item. If you are car camping, then they are a great asset to the camping experience, nice to listen to music without the earbuds.
I am delighted with the Nomad 7 / Rockout Speaker Combo. They are well engineered and perform very well. The Nomad 7 Solar Panel is perfect for light weight backpacking.

I was a bit nervous buying this thing due to the reviews but once I got It I'm extremely excited about it. I bought the rock out combo.. Nomad 7 and speaker kit. Some of the people say the nomad 7 won't work with the iPhone 4, they must be re-traded or technology ignorant. I plugged in my phone and it's charging.. Simple as that. It seems very durable and well put together. I'm a rockclimber/ backpacker so in the summer of 2012 I'll put it to usefeild test it and write up a more in depth review. Although I purchased this on sale in a big box store, I wanted to write a review of it because I'm so impressed. I purchased this to charge my iPhone and iPod Touch. After purchasing several competing products which didn't quite work, this one has the best design, utility, and solar panel size of any I saw. Admittedly I don't really use the speaker very often, and when I do it's just for my own listening, so I don't have any complaints about it; the speaker is solidly designed also and volume is not my key criteria in judging it. One tip is to get a long USB charging cable, so that the USB device you are powering is not also sitting in the sun. You can't simply set your smart phone in the sun without overheating it. In the case of the iPhone, it will auto-shutoff until it cools down. Been there, done that.Pros:
--Providing a powered USB port was pure genius that few other makers seem to understand
--Great folding design with 2 solar panels
--Sturdy canvas and velcro shell
--Utility pocket that fits an iPhone or other smart phone
--Great ease-of-use; nothing to setup, just place it in the sun and plug in your USB-powered device
Cons:
--USB port should be deeper; cables plugged into the USB port feel like they are hanging out too far, although the connection is solid

Buy Retractable Wall / Car Charger Combo Pack for HTC EVO 4G Now
Item received as provided in item description. AWESOME price for both products. Both chargers have a single push button that retracts the cord within the charger for a clean look & easy storage. Car charger has a "blue" light that lights up to indicate that it is properly inserted in to lighter for proper use which is great. Cords are thin & some complain about being to small but I've had no problems with length as an issue. I use the wall charger as my back up at work. Easy to store in my desk when I leave & keeps my phone charged for daily use while at work. Some have complained about the cords getting tangled or not made of quality construction but I think as with all "retractable" products the best thing is to take care of how you use it. Caution with retracting the cord will help extend it's life. I've been using the product now for over 2 weeks & have no problems with either of the chargers. I highly recommend these for daily use & you can't beat the price for both of them.Read Best Reviews of Retractable Wall / Car Charger Combo Pack for HTC EVO 4G Here
