The device requires a HD Video plug-in in order to record video. Archos includes a code that is supposed to allow one to download the necessary plug-in without charge, otherwise the plug-in costs ~$40.00. The code that was included with the device was corrupted so I was unable to download the plug-in as advertised. I contacted the company(Arcos) and was provided a different code that I attempted to use, it too was corrupted. I again contacted the company and the person assisting me tried to input three codes, while on the phone, to ensure that I would recieve a valid operating code, all three failed with the same "corrupted code" message. I was then told that a manager had already spoken to the French Headquarters and assured that a code would be forthcoming. That was four weeks ago. If one is looking to use this device as a DVR or wishes to be able to record video this is NOT the product for you. This experience also illustrates the poor customer service that was recieved. Retractable Auto Rapid Car Charger with Ic Chip for RIM Blackberry 9500 9530 Storm Thunder, Pearl F

Retractable Auto Rapid Car Charger with Ic Chip for RIM Blackberry 9500 9530 Storm Thunder, Pearl Flip 8220 SmartphoneThis was my first retractable cord car charger and I am very pleased. No more messy tangled cords and compact enough to transport on you if you are changing cars.

Update 12/1/2011: I had to replace this charger with another one and have tried a different brand this time. The micro USB adapter became detached from the cord. It wears out from pulling the cord out and this seems to be the weakest point for any of these types of chargers. Although, it's been awhile since I purchased this product, I only used it on weekends when traveling so if you plan on using this more often or even daily be careful to not tug the cord out using the micro USB adapter but wiggle down to the cord itself and pull it out that way. You'll probably get more mileage out of it by pulling it out this way and that's what I'm doing with the different charger that I ordered just to play it safe.

Good product, a little cheap in quality but functions perfect. All in all good product.

This is a great car charger for my Blackberry Storm. I was a little weary of getting a retractable charger, since I didn't want it to stop retracting. I have not that problem at all it has retracted everytime.

It is rather quick to recharge.

IDEAL Lightening 3 Port USB Car Charger, 5A Lightning Fast Charge, Charge Two iPads at the Same Time, Supports AC mode, Fast Charge 3 Devices at Once, 10 Free Cords IncludedI was skeptical to order this since there weren't any reviews at that time. I took a chance on it and I am very pleased with the quality and performance of this charger. The 2.5 amp port is plenty to keep tablets charged up and running. The other 1.5 amp ports I use for my cell phone and mobile hot-spot. It held up well on my vacation drive while running everything constant for about 9 hours. I was also very happy to find out that it came with so many cables as well. The cables that were meant for Apple products are good quality and work well. The ones that are the micro usb however did not fit my Galaxy Note II. I already had cables for it so that didn't matter to me. The cables this comes with alone would cost more to purchase separately that what the whole thing cost. I think this is a great deal on this little bundle.

I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good robust charger for in the car.

I connect an iPhone and a Samsung SGH-T679 phone, iPhone charges Samsung does not.

Connect only Samsung does not charge

Connect iPhone + Samsung + Nuvi GPS, only GPS charges.

I don't think I have seen other chargers that charge as well as this one. The small 2 port chargers charge way too slow. I used this charger on the airplane with their empower cord and in the car and it definitely work well. Besides the one downside which, compared to the small 2 port chargers, this is the best charger for the price you can find.

This is a great product if you have multiple things you need to charge in a car BUT it doesn't always work. We have 3 iPads, 2 iPods, and two cell phones (including an iPhone 5). The connection to the ports as well as into the car are a little flimsy. The cords feel like they are not in securely and can get pulled out easily. It's nice to be able to charge multiple iPads and devices BUT the iPads don't always charge. It still works for us since we end up charging phones and iPods but I use a dedicated iPad charger most of the time. We end up charging one iPad at a time.

I tried this in 3 different places within my car and was not able to charge any Apple device, iPhone or iPad. I tried to just plug one item only and it didn't charge. I don't know if I just got a defective device, but now I'm totally disappointed that it's going to cost me to shipping to send it back.

Update: I got a replacement item and it works perfectly. I believe it has more to do with my car than the device. The MINI's don't have a deep charger port, so if you try to force the device in there, the fuse shorts. That is what happened with mine, unfortunately. I tried the replacement in a friend's Honda and it worked fine. It does work in my car, I just have to make sure I don't push it too far into the cigarette lighter.

Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger

Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery ChargerEvery time I want to fire up my old 71 Datsun (that's Nissan for those of you younger than 30) 240 Z there's a good chance that the battery has drained down and that I can't start it! Looking around at car forums I read about this nifty little gadget....It's like a battery trickle charger....sort of. Whereas it's not recommended to keep a trickle charger hooked up all the time, this one has circuitry to limit the current and sense when the battery needs charging. It only charges at 1.25 amps which is easier on the battery.

I've had it on for a month now and it's great. The first couple of days, the red light was on indicating charging. Since then it's been on green and the car starts right up. I live in Houston where the heat and humidity can be just as brutal on batteries as the cold.

I highly recommend this "tender" for those that have cars that stay unused for long periods.

As other reviews have mentioned it comes with a set of adapters that allow you to permanently attach pigtails to the battery posts and then you can quickly connect the tender without having to use the alligator clips (also included).

For the price and free shipping you can't go wrong!

UPDATE after two years of use.

I can now reconfirm that these battery tenders work great I've had them hooked up continuously on two cars that stay in the garage a lot and I've NEVER had them not start right up. A quick glance at the LED display lets me know that the batteries are either charging or fully charged. It's a real pleasure to be able to go right up and enjoy your wheels without having to worry about whether the battery is dead. I can't say for sure, but I suspect that it lengthens the life of the battery as well.

This little gizmo is dynamite.

I have a 4 year old Accord that, due to circumstance, only has about 4400 miles. Rarely driven...and what driving is done is mostly at night.

Sat for a week once in very cold weather...dead battery.

Ordered this. Hooked it up. 100% charge and the battery is very powerful once again.( had thought I would probably need a new one).

It's very small size makes it extremely easy to use and store. And it will not overcharge, so you do not have to babysit the process.

It's LEDs glow red when charging. Green and red blink once 80% has been achieved. Solid green at 100%.

It did, in very cold weather, take a long time to establish a full charge on my almost completely discharged battery. The battery would have been usable in a few hours, but 100% took close to 18.

Highly recommended.

Buy Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger Now

I have an older version of this charger that I bought in the mid 90's. I used it to maintain my garaged Mustang's battery over the winter months for many years. I made a cigarette lighter adapter so all I needed to do was to plug it in instead of using the alligator clips. I have to say this thing is dead reliable! It always kept my battery in prime condition. I love it and recommend it highly.

Read Best Reviews of Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger Here

I recently purchased a Deltran Battery Tender Plus (they are made in China) battery charger for a total cost of $63.30. It has never worked correctly from the first day I got it. It charges great, but it never goes into the "storage" mode, or notifies you that the battery is at 80% charged. It apparently just keeps charging the battery whether it needs it or not.

I contacted Deltran's "technical" department a few times about the problem, and told them that I suspected the charger was faulty, but they kept telling me it was the battery, or "check this" or "check that" or "the weather was too cold" (in Florida), even though I had told them the battery was new. So, figuring they knew what they were talking about, I purchased another brand new battery at the cost of $79.92.

I left the "new" battery on this charger for a few days, and it was the same thing as the "old" battery. The charger never showed a full charge or went into storage mode.

So now that the equipment that this battery is from has been out of service for a couple of weeks, (because Deltran recommended I remove the battery from the equipment since I was having a problem charging it), and I couldn't afford to fiddle around any longer, I bought a competitors battery charger for $46.45, and as it turns out after connecting the new charger, within a matter of a few minutes both the "old" and the "new" batteries showed fully charged, and the new (competitors) charger went into "storage" mode with no problem.

Now that I knew for sure that this Deltran Battery Tender Plus charger was not working properly, I reviewed the Battery Tender Plus "LIMITED" 10 year warranty, and found out they (Deltran) wants a $9.95 "handling" fee (if you have had the charger over 90 days), and if you have the original sales receipt, if you want to send it in for repair.

If you don't have the original receipt, then it is a $15.95 "handling" fee no matter how long you have had it.

Having wasted about 2weeks fiddling with 2different batteries and 2different chargers all because the Deltran Battery Tender Plus did not work correctly in the first place, I am not about to spend another $15.95 "handling" fee (because I don't have the original receipt) plus shipping (maybe $10.00) to return it to Deltran for exchange/repair, and then wait another week or two to get the charger back and have to hope that it now works correctly.

Deltran also told me that since I did not buy the Battery Tender Plus in question directly from them, I would need to send it back to where I originally purchased it. Not having the original receipt (because I bought it someplace online and don't remember where), I asked Deltran what's the difference where I purchased it since they (Deltran) are the manufacturer and supply the warranty as well, and I was told that "it is the same as trying to return a Chevrolet to a Ford dealership". That I don't understand, because if a person has a problem with a Chevrolet, they can take it to any Chevy dealer in the country and have it fixed (and maybe any GM dealer).

They also said in so many words that I should have known sooner that the charger was defective, which must mean that their "technical" department is not fully competent to be advising anyone, and that I should have not paid any attention to their suggested remedies in the first place.

Because of the investment of time and money I now have in this Battery Tender Plus, and the poor "technical" support I received from Deltran, I would never buy another one and would not recommend it to anyone else. Their 10 year "LIMITED" warranty is also a joke. Battery Tender PlusSucks! It should be called Battery Tender Negative!.

Want Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger Discount?

I bought one, for my own use and spent much time reading Deltran's website, and the finally the info that came with the Deltran unit.

Over all, Works well, made well (vented metal case). I've been testing it on a 55ah AGM.

I have a lot of background in battery chargers. Based on my review of the unit I bought, I wanted to maybe offer some general practical help for those that can't find all the info they need for guidance before they but such a product.

The price at Amazon makes it worth it, but not list at the OEM's site. The OEM list price is pricey for the Battery Tender Plus, the Battery Tender Jr is about 1/2 (based on the OEM price), and can take care of much of the same duties.

While I've read all I could from their site, all their advertising pre-sale doesn't warn that it may not charge a large cell that has been properly discharged. Once I bought my Battery Tender Plus, I found liteature comes with the charger that warns you of this..

I figured as much and bought it as a compliment to my smart bulk chargers that aren't good maintainers. The reason.......

If the power is interrupted on any of my bulk chargers, they don't come back to the correct profile, just the profile for 2amp charge for a wet cell general. Not the AGM profile.

The Deltran being a dedicated maintainer doesn't suffer from this problem.

If the power was to be cycled, it would just go through it's profile again. And since it's such low current, no harm.

These Tenders are Great for when the bulk charger is taken care else where on the larger RV, boat, or secondary car battery. Your primary car battery is charged by the alternator, and when you store the car you need to take care of the self discharge issue and any parasitic loads that will discharge your car's battery while in storage... the Battery Tender Plus is great for that.

As well as the Battery Tender Jr, if you have very little or no parasitic loads.

(if your parasitic loads are too great, you may need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle for storage if the parasitic drain/loads comes close to the tender's rating, it wont do it's job and your battery wont be a happy battery)

I've been testing the Battery Tender Plus on my optima AGM, and on maintenance float, the battery is only pulling a .01a at 13.2vdc. Just right. The profile was just about perfect, per optima's spec and other AGM's spec, and perfect for wet cells (normal car batteries).

If you have larger parasitic loads, the Battery Tender Plus (1.25a) will be a better choice. But if you pull your battery lead of have little or no parasitic loads, the Battery Tender Jr will work well and save you money over the Battery Tender Plus.

(Again, remember if your parasitic loads are too great, you may need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle for storage if the parasitic drain/loads comes close to the tender's rating, it wont do it's job and your battery wont be a happy battery)

For a motorcycle battery, the Battery Tender Plus is probably the end all charger.

But for the larger batteries, neither Tender will serve as a bulk charger. To protect your battery investment, get a good smart bulk charger (not the cheapo dumb bulk chargers) with the right profiles, and use the Deltan Battery Tender Plus or Battery Tender Jr for storage.

After the testing I've done (monitored and recorded voltage, current, and temps to see what the profiles are of the chargers), for my storage use, I could have gotten away with the Battery Tender Jr @.75a, for my storage "tender" of a single 55ah optima agm battery.

SKIL 2354-02 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Driver With Right Angle Attachment

SKIL 2354-02 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Driver With Right Angle AttachmentThis small screwdriver comes with a right angle attachment for hard to reach places. Great for annoying little jobs where you never have a short enough screwdriver or a right angle manual tool takes forever to use. The included case keeps everything together. One complaint: the direction switch always seems to get bumped off the desired position. Also, the magnetic socket is so strong that the bits are sometimes difficult to remove. All in all, a good tool for the money.

This very small driver packs a lot of power. I used it to drive 1-1/2" screws into old, dried, very hard wood. It did the job admirably and the torque didn't seem to diminish at all during the job (12 screws). I didn't need the right angle attachment for this job, but I did attach it and play with it a little and I know it will be very handy when I have to drive screws in a tight place. This is probably not a tool a professional construction person would choose, but it's great for home owners and do-it-yourself types.

Have been using for about 6 months. Battery life is incredible. Love the little LED light. I am constantly hitting my finger up against the switch that controls the direction of the rotation. Poor design, it's a pain. I'd say my hands are normal for a 6'0 guy. Also no place to store a bit or two. That would have been simple to design in as well like many drills do today.

Palm Vehicle Power Charger for Treo 755p, Centro, Treo 750, Treo 700p, Treo 700w, Treo 700wx, Treo

Palm Vehicle Power Charger for Treo 755p, Centro, Treo 750, Treo 700p, Treo 700w, Treo 700wx, Treo 680, TX, LifeDrive, Tungsten E2, Tungsten T5, and Treo 650I won't reiterate the other reviews, but I found the plusses to be:

1. Rapid charging seems to get the Treo up to 99% quickly.

2. Really reasonably price.

The disadvantages are:

1. The cord is not very flexible in terms of stretching it tends to coil tightly on cold mornings, which exacerbates disadvantage 2.

2. The power connector to the Treo is not up to the job.

I experienced the same problems reported by many of the other reviewers and decided to look at the connector more closely. The problem is that the connector is not durable enough for repeated insertions and removals. (Imagine that you are a Treo charger connector. Put your arms on your waist. Now have someone push you through a manhole. Your arms have to come in to your body to fit through. Eventually one wrist breaks. The Treo connector works the same way.)

You can do a couple of things to resolve this. It's possible to pull out the broken arm of the connector with a sturdy safety pin or awl. You have to do this periodically. The other approach is to use needle nose pliers to pull the connector out further, as it tends to sink into the handle (the part which does not go into the Treo) with use. Close inspection may also show that the handle halves are separating slightly as you insert the connector sometimes just firmly gripping the handle part will keep the whole unit together enough to make a good connection.

So...I love my Treo. I think this power adapter is a good buy as long as the connector stays in good shape. But the connector is definitely the Achille's heel of this unit.

Note to Palm, if you ever read this: Replace the connector with one similar to the USB signal and power connector -that is a much more stable design. And offer an upgrade for those of us who are suffering with this one!

SEPTEMBER 2006 UPDATE: I was travelling and needed to get a charger, so I bought an official Palm charger at a higher price than this one. I've found the connector on the original Palm to be superior to this unit. Other differences include a more flexible cable with a nicely designed integral clip, and a green backlit panel to indicate that it is on rather than the basic red LED in this unit. Even with the price savings, I can no longer recommend this unit the official Palm product is worth the price difference.

I've had the same experience as posted previously by others: the plug does not stay connected to the Treo so after a few seconds it stops charging until I reposition it. And the cycle continues everytime the power adapter is jostled in the slightest.

Buy Palm Vehicle Power Charger for Treo 755p, Centro, Treo 750, Treo 700p, Treo 700w, Treo 700wx, Treo Now

Very disappointed in this item. Returned it for refund. As stated above, this is not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) item. It is a poor quality knockoff that arrives in a cheap plastic bag, not in the usual Palm official packaging. When I inserted the adapter's plug into the Treos jack, the adapter would not stay connected. Buyer beware!

I didn't and I got burned like everyone else posting here. The Treo 650 power charger is junk, pure and simple. The plug of the charger doesn't fit the phone and always pulls out. It's hard to actually "charge" the phone if it can stay plugged in. They should remove this from Amazon -it's a disgrace that this garbage can be sold.

Want Palm Vehicle Power Charger for Treo 755p, Centro, Treo 750, Treo 700p, Treo 700w, Treo 700wx, Treo Discount?

Device is literally falling apart as I use it. The device will not stay plugged into my Treo unless I position the treo and charger propped up against something in the car. The part where the charger connects to the phone easily comes apart and needs to be snapped back together and even where it connects to the accessory power outlet it wants to split apart at the seams.

Since this was bought from a 3rd party seller I'm wondering if I was given a knock-off brand since I did not see Palm anywhere on the packaging. I figured that the picture was outdated and now think I DID just get a cheap charger made by a cheap competitor.

  • 5-Mile Range
  • 22 Designated GMRS/FRS Channels
  • 38 Interference Eliminator Codes
  • 10 Audible Call Tones
  • Vibra Call Alert

I bought a pair after losing an older T5200 (also from Motorola) which is not manufactured anymore. I figured that the new & more expensive model (which also has 1 Watt compared to 1/2 watt of the T5200) should work as good or better.

I was very disapoointed. Very poor sound quality. Audio is not clear and in many cases has breaks. I still have one T5200 left (I lost 1 out of 2) eveyone in my family wants to use the older unit as the new T5820 does not perform. Plus, I paid for the T5200 half of what I paid for thr T5820...

I recommend not to buy this product. Go for the new cheaper & better T5720 (1 Watt as well, compact, great sound quality. The only limitation no vibration alert. See my review on it).

Please note that GMRS radio transmission requires an FCC license by you, your immediate family, or direct blood relative, and may only be operated by an adult except in emergencies.

The FRS frequencies do not require this; however, having both in one unit would be very tempting to use the GMRS frequencies. .... .

Use of these radios outside of the US is very likely to be restricted or prohibited except in unregulated countries and may interfere with otherwise allocated frequencies of medical devices, or other radio devices.

Note, these radios to not support repeater access codes.

SUMMARY: If you are planning on being licensed and want the extra range of GMRS, these are great entry-level radios.

To those who have problems with getting clear reception:

If you normally set you volume control to max, try turning it down a little (or more) if your reception sounds muffled.

I've tried this several times within city transmission and it helps alot with removing the muffled reception some users have reported (especially those who have purchased sets with rechargeable nicad batteries).

I think the volume control and speaker interface has not been designed well for max vol transmissions. (Note that new T5620, T5720 and T5920 have sound enhacing improvements for clearer voice transmissions, check motorola site for specs and launch dates)

Reason I like this set:

The 1.0 watt transmitter helps increase talking distance in built up areas as opposed to 0.5 watt frs radio sets. Price was a good deal with rebate. ...

I was shocked that the FCC extracts [$$$] from citizens to use these little babies; buyer beware!

I really didn't want to buy another cell phone or get my charge port fixed. i need my cell! so i found this product on amazon and gave it a shot. Ok the good is that it charges your battery. The bad is that it takes 3 hours to charge, your battery has to be placed inside a device and then plugged into the wall or car charger. There is a red light indicator that turns blue when fully charged. This light turned blue after 1 hour on a dead cell. and when i put batt back in cell, batt was still a dead cell. So i changed where i plugged in device . I just plugged it in another socket in the house and that time it charged for the full 3 hours. This has happened time and time again but as long as when i change sockets and it charges then i would recommend this product to someone. Its a good product if you don't want to buy another cell or get it fixed and if you don't mind not being able to talk while cell batt is charging cause you have to take batt out in order to charge it.Also it has only two copper connecters that touches the copper connectors on batt. At 1st i thought hey wait this thing has only 2 copper connectors that touch batt, will it charge, YES. Ok you have to let left connector touch left connector on batt and right connector touch the right one on batt. the middle connector on batt doesn't have to have a copper connector touching it in order for to charge.

The port on my phone was messed up so I wasn't able to recharge my battery. I checked around for battery chargers and I was told there was no such thing for my phone, but they were wrong. This is Perfect for me. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to line up the two prongs to the battery, but wow it's so simple. They really thought of everything, with the attachments i'm able to recharge my battery in my car. I totally love this product, amazing price, I cannot say enough, this product literally saved me more than a hundred dollars. Thank you Gomadic!!

Marware MBAM11 Amped Portable Device Charger - Retail Packaging - Black

Marware MBAM11 Amped Portable Device Charger - Retail Packaging - BlackThis back-up charging device is easily the best one I have ever had the opportunity to use. I purchased it though another website at a ridiculously cheap price, and accordingly kept my expectations low. I was very pleasantly surprised when the device arrived. Sleek look and design, unit has a solid and durable feel to it. In addition to the aesthetics, it also does a top-notch job charging my iPhone easily, and has no trouble keeping my iPad(3) running for extended periods of time. I would highly recommend anyone who has a USB-chargeable device. Well worth the investment.

This device claims that it is 2600mA. My phone requires 1800mA. I should get at least one charge from it. I plug in the battery to my phone and charge it from 15% to 83%. At that point the battery shuts down because it's outta power.

It takes 6 hours to charge this battery. My cell phone charges from the wall in 2 hours. Using this battery to charge my cell phone takes 4 hours to get it to 83%.

I would NOT recommend this product unless you are okay with mediocrity and incorrect marketing claims.

Lincoln 1401 14.4 Volt Battery for 1444 -1442

Lincoln 1401 14.4 Volt Battery for 1444 -1442The battery pack was in the original Lincoln packaging . It was shipped quickly, on time and as described. Very satisfied.

I use the power luber almost every day at work or at least three times a week. I have had two of the exact same battaries ( I bought one extra with the power luber) for three years now. One of the two battaries was starting to die very quickly, this new battary however is in full working order. The charge never dies early and always lasts for a whole lubing session.

Auto Meter 9201 12V Battery ExtenderThe product was received on time and in good shape.

It will be helpful to keep my stored car battery fresh until,

I'm ready to drive it in the spring.

Les

If you're like me, you have vehicles that don't get driven often enough. There is your daily driver, and your backup or recreational vehicles. I have two vehicles that are only driven a few times a year, and that kind of infrequent use destroys batteries about as fast as you can replace them. With this gadget my extra vehicles are always charged and ready to go and the batteries last nearly forever. No fuss at all, just leave the thing hooked up and running 24/7 and the battery stays perfect. And this thing is actually made out of real metal, unlike the trendy other brand. It will even do 2 at once, with a pair of jumper cables to run between the vehicles.

TomTom ONE USB Battery Charger

TomTom ONE USB Battery Charger
  • Works from any standard electric outlet at home, at work, or in hotel rooms
  • Offers the freedom and convenience of charging while away from your vehicle
  • Recharges the TomTom ONE's lithium ion battery via built-in USB port

When I got my Tom Tom One, there was a quick start guide that was to say the least inadequite. One of the things they left out was the fact that you can charge your Tom Tom using the USB cable connected to your computer. Insted they have a stern warning in their quick start guide suggesting you spend 30 bucks more to buy the Charger. The Charger works fine, but I don't think much of Tom Tom's business ethics in not including detailed information about their product when the consumer purchases it so you don't end up spending money on things you really don't need. For that reason, I wouldn't give Tom Tom any stars.

Buy TomTom ONE USB Battery Charger Now

Three battery charging scenarios:

1. The included USB cable for downloading from computer will "trickle" charge device's battery if the device is turned off while attached to computer (explained on P9 as Note of Quick Start Guide). Takes about one hour to fully charge.

2. Included USB cable for car use will do the absolutely identical thing as the USC computer cable as explained above.

3. Optional wall outlet charger not required if one does not need to quick charge device. Advantage of using supplied USB cable with computer is to first hook up to TomTom Home to check for downloadable updates and then tunoff to trickle charge device as needed.

I don't think TomTom is being deceptive about the need to buy their wall outlet charger. One has to read the Quick Startup Guide, which is that a guide, and then download and carefully read the User Manual that is available from TomTom Home. It is more detailed on the operation of the device. On p6 of the Quick Start Guide under the header "Troubleshootiong" is clearly states , "Always make sure that you are using the latest version of the TomTom application on your One XL...see TomTom Home on page 9."

One has to read the instructions to be smarter that the equipment one uses.

This charger works. It charges faster than if you were using the USB from the computer. I like how it has interchangable pins for if you want to take your TomTom overseas and charge it while on vacation.

Want TomTom ONE USB Battery Charger Discount?

After purchasing a TomTom One I noticed it has a feature for walk routes, I thought it would be something I would never use and didn't think twice about it.

Well, it just shows you how wrong first impressions can be.

I was recently on vacation in Los Angeles (South Pasadena to be exact) visiting filming locations from the first Halloween film (1978). I had researched all the info online then programmed the locations as "Favorites" into my TomTom One. This way I could quickly find an address I wanted to see rather than type out the city, street, and house number.

Arriving in South Pasadena I realized alot of the filming locations were very close together. I decided to walk the route because it was a lot quicker avoiding traffic, street lights, one way streets...etc.. It was also nice to enjoy the California sunshine.

Because I had used the TomTom Home Charger the night before in my hotel room my TomTom One had a full charge. This was very convenient because I could simply take the unit with me and have my entire route with all my favorites with me on foot. It was like having my very own tour guide telling me right where to go.

Anyone who will be using their TomTom One outside a vehicle should look into this product.

The one disadvantage of the TomTom ONE is that its battery life is only 2 hours, so it's important you have a car charger and/or home charger to power the device up when not in use. The USB cable provided with your device can also charge it, but it'll take ALOT longer to charge. It's better to have this home charger handy!

Goal Zero Escape 150 -Kids

Goal Zero 21003 Escape 150 Explorer PackEscape 150 battery pack (the Coffee Maker looking battery) often goes with the Boulder 15 Solar Panel. The advertisement says to expect to fully charge the Escape 150 battery from empty charge in about 15 hours using the panel. When I bought the two together I charged the battery to full and then ran it down to empty. The next morning at sun up (I live in the California desert mountains . . so I'm high above the haze layer and have 100% crystal blue sky and sun) so I faced the panel directly at the sun for 11 hours solid. At the end of that time I was knocking on the door of 80% power (75%??) according to the battery charge indicator, and took the next day for another 3 hours (total of 14ish hours) to get the Escape 150 fully charged. Recommendation: if you're going to run the Escape 150 down to empty during the day/night (for laptops, etc.) then you'll need two (2) Boulder 15 solar panels (daisy-chained) to fully recharge the battery the next day. NOTE: Also, I did run the battery to empty off 3 of their LED lights (which are outstanding at 207 illumens 3-watt, "Light-a-life" as they're called). Manufacturer states to expect getting 16 hours of light (with 3 lights daisy chained). I got 17 hours 10 minutes with the Escape 150 battery.

I had to stay in a tent for a week during the hottest week of the summer in upstate NY. I was alone with my dogs. I was able to run a 12v DC fan I had all night and still listen to podcasts on my smartphone while it stayed charged. I had to recharge it once and used the outlet at the camp pavillion. Really glad I had this.

Buy Goal Zero Escape 150 -Kids Now

Bought this to run my CPAP while camping with my son. First use of the Escape 150 it worked great. Camped outdoors in a tent and it ran my CPAP for a good 8 -9 hours and still had 2 bars left. Next time I used it, we were camping inside, but no available power outlet, only lasted 8 hours, with no bars left. Fully charged both times. Charged it again and it only lasted the 8 hours again. Called Goal Zero support, they had me disconnect the battery for 5 mins and then hook it up again, also pull the 3 fuses and re-inert them. I did so, then fully charged it again and now only lasted 4 hours. Called them back and sent it in for service. When they sent it back, it only lasted 6 hours. They then swapped it out for a new one and that one only lasted 8 hours. Would recommend looking at a different product. Need to find another myself for next camping trip.

I purchased this battery as an emergency power solution. It was packaged well. It wasn't to heavy, considering the battery size. I tested it out by charging my ipad, just to get a general idea of consumption for the things I plan to keep it charged with. Charging my ipad over 6 hours, utilized about 20% of the battery down from full. I think thats great! As I could charge multiple devices in an emergency.

I'm currently keeping it charged with the provided cord to a wall outlet, so that it won't start discharging while it waits for use. I did also purchase the Goal0 30 watt briefcase solar panels to charge during a power outtage. I'm impressed with quality and build of both items. But the solar panels carry a little weight. I wouldn't neccessarily want to walk a great distance with it; However the built in handle is nice. Overall... Very satisfied.

Want Goal Zero Escape 150 -Kids Discount?

Love it! I have been using Amazon for several years and this is the first time I wanted posted a review. I have been using the Escape 150 for about 6 months now. It serves as backup power on my CPAP machine while in the house. I just lost power for two days and having the Goal0 was a life saver. I powered the CPAP one night and still had over 50% power remaining. I used it to power a lamp, my laptop, and recharge my cell phone during the outage. I purchased this to replace a big, heavy, Xantrex Powerpack 600. There is not comparison for me. The Escape 150 is much lighter and more efficient. The Goal0 does not have all the extras like a built in radio or light however I do not miss it. It is so much more portable. I cannot wait to take it on a camping trip and take my CPAP with me. I also like that you can leave it plugged in all the time. In fact the instructions says it helps to to maintain the battery health. Great product and I would recommend and buy again in a heartbeat.

Garmin nuvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic (Discontinued

Garmin nuvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic
  • Bright, 4.3-inch diagonal color WQVGA TFT touchscreen with 480 x 272 pixels and white backlight
  • Preloaded with City Navigator North America NT
  • Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling with compatible devices
  • High-sensitivity GPS receiver for improved performance and reception
  • NOTE: Model number on the box is 765T because the traffic receiver is included; however, the model number on the device itself is 765 as the "T" in 765T refers to the additional component

This Nuvi does several things very well, and I've yet to discover any serious shortcomings. My thoughts:

Navigation: Excellent, as is typical with Garmin units. On a couple of occasions the voice (right now I'm using Australian Karen) told me my destination was on the wrong side of the street.

Map: The map is clear, the refresh rate is fast, and all of the right information is provided on-screen, including details for upcoming turns and junctions, speed limit, and traffic alerts. It's annoying that I can't choose to switch the display of my current speed to some other piece of info. I already have a speedometer. The 3D buildings feature seems pretty gimmicky, and is implemented sporadically, even in downtown Boston. When there is coverage, most buildings are monochromatic blocks, and not the photo-realistic buildings seen in screenshots.

Lane Assist: This feature has been spot-on so far. It's nice driving in a new area and not getting flustered about being in the wrong lane. I have yet to see the full-screen 3D Lane Assist Junction View shown in the many 765t screenshots -however, I've done very little highway driving, and I believe this screen requires that the user press the top-left (upcoming turn icon).

>>>>>UPDATE: After some highway driving, it turns out that the full-screen 3D Lane Assist Junction View shows up automatically before potentially tricky highway junctions. Very nice.

Traffic: As far as I know, I have not been re-routed because of traffic. However, it's very easy to bring up a list of major roads and their current traffic conditions, and to avoid them at will. The pop-up advertising associated with the "free" traffic is pretty subtle, and never distracting.

Bluetooth: I'm impressed with this feature so far. It mated with my phone (old Motorola RAZR V3) easily, importing all of my contacts in the process. The ability to instantly dial any point of interest (e.g., to check on store hours) is brilliant. The volume from the speaker is reasonably loud. I also tried sending the audio to my car stereo using an audio cable, and the output seemed a bit low (I had to turn my car stereo way up). I have not yet tried sending the audio to my car stereo using the FM transmitter. I called my voicemail, and the built-in microphone picks up my voice reasonably well with the engine running. I'm not sure how well it would work with highway speeds. I'm told that the cheap Garmin microphone (which plugs into the cradle, not the unit) improves voice quality.

>>>>>UPDATE: This is true -the microphone is an improvement, though it adds yet another long cord to your long cord collection. Also, I've tried the FM transmitter. It works, albeit with a certain amount of static. I imagine this feature would intolerable if you are driving a long way.

Other features: I haven't used the SD card slot for anything. I haven't tried the photo viewer or the mp3 player, and I probably won't.

Build Quality: Seems solid. The unit has a certain heft to it, and it's covered in a soft, rubbery coating. I've also dropped it already (because I'm an idiot) -still working beautifully.

Suggested improvements: Garmin doesn't make it easy to look up the actual coordinates (latitude and longitude) for favorites or points of interest. This information should be available at the press of a button.

Needless to say, I'm pleased with my purchase. The 756t is not cheap right now, and if you can live without the new features, you might be better off with an older unit. That said, if you're looking for a gps device with all of the latest features and compatibility, this seems to be a solid pick.

Buy Garmin nuvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic (Discontinued Now

I'll try to make this a unique review by comparing the pros and cons of FOUR different Garmin units I've tried: c330, 265t, 765t, and the 885t. There are few reviews that offer face-off comparisons between models which can assist in making a purchasing choice. I'll share some highlights for each model, beginning with the one I've owned for over three years. Bottom line: If you want to go cheap, the c330 still works fine with new maps loaded I literally drove all over the country and rarely had any problems. If you are looking for a new model, get the 265t and you won't be disappointed. Don't buy the 765t. Consider the 885t but be ready to return if the volume output is too low.

Note with all models I had the latest firmware updates and maps at time of writing the review.

>> Streetpilot C330. Owned it over 3 years. It is an older model, and not flat like all new models today. Instead of flat, it has something of a triangular shape, and the mount has takes up more space. It is harder to pack in bag or suitcase because of this, and is the primary reason I decided to upgrade. To its credit, it is built more sturdily than any of the new models. I'm sure it could survive multiple falls. The screen is smaller, but plenty bright and easy enough to read when the sunlight falls on it. The touchscreen is sensitive and I never had much complaint with it. It is has an important feature missing from all new models a wheel volume control on the side. All new models make you hit an icon on the screen to adjust the volume, and then you must touch again to change the volume in increments, and touch one more time to return to the map. The volume is plenty loud on the c330, which is not always the case with newer models. The icons on the map are simpler. For instance, the vehicle is a blue triangle rather than a car. The maps are not as detailed, but sufficiently so. There are no spoken street names, but the prompts are good enough to get you where you want. You can still purchase map updates that will load on the unit, although the onboard memory can only support a region of the US at a time. The GPS receiver is fine most of the time, but failed me in Chicago with all the tall buildings, and I sometimes had to wait for service when leaving a rental car garage. Overall, it is a very good unit and Garmin would do well with future models to bring back the side volume control, and the tank-like build quality.

>> 265t. Owned it about two weeks so far. This is the most recent model I've purchased, and I am impressed. I will lead with a weakness, however. I bought a refurbished model on Amazon. It saved me about $40 over a new model, but I had to contact Garmin multiple times to get the free map update. It had been previously registered and the free map update was not available. Garmin had to reset the registration. I wrote them and sent a copy of my purchase receipt, and they reset the registration. Other than this, I would not have realized it is refurbished just by looking at it. The operation is also fine.

I want to emphasize something you really don't need a widescreen model (e.g, 265wt). Trust me on this. The only thing afforded by widescreen is the QUERTY-style keyboard. A few people might miss it, but I don't even though I'm a daily user of keyboards. The widescreen gives you more visible map coverage on the left and right, but it is not needed for navigating. Everything you need to see is in plain view on the squarish screen of the 265t. To best of my knowledge, all of the other functions are the same. The 265t is also smaller and easier to stow away. Save yourself the extra dough and get the 265t over the 265wt.

The 265 shares the most important features as the more expensive 700 and 800 series. In fact, I only miss a couple of things from these other models. For instance, the 800 series can be controlled by speaking commands very nice. The 700 series can display time remaining to destination, or distance to destination. Handy! I understand there are more flexible routing options with the 700 and 800, but I never use those so can't comment. Gpsmagazine.com claims the 700 and 800 have stronger GPS receivers, but I noticed I can get a signal from inside of my home with the 265, so I am hoping that it works just as well as the 700/800 in cities with big building all around. The 265 lacks 3D buildings, lane assist, and junction view. Lane assist is helpful, but the other two only show up once in a while depending on your location. It lacks a built-in MP3 player, but I don't think I miss that either (more on my experience with this below). The 265 has smooth scrolling of the map like the 765, which the 885 lacks. It also has free traffic service, but so far I haven't benefitted from this (more below). One thing better about the 265 is the volume. It is just as loud as the c330, louder than the 765t, and MUCH louder than the 885. Using the bluetooth, I can make a phone call and hear and be heard without any problems. Overall, I think the 265 would be a far better bargain for most people saving $100-$250 over the high end models but sill including great features.

>> 765t. Used it for a couple of months then returned. I won't repeat what I said above. Actually, I was really disappointed with this model for a couple of reasons. The traffic feature did not work at all for me. I drove over 500 miles to DC, and then back, and it never helped me once. I hit construction. No warning. I hit accident backups. No warnings. I got stuck in horrible downtown DC traffic, and was told I would be delayed 3 minutes, which stretched into 2 hours! Here is what I found unforgiveable, though. It sometimes told me to turn in one direction, then correct itself after I made the turn to get me going the other way. At first I thought it was me, but no, the darn thing actually got the turn direction wrong about 5% of the time! This is totally inexcusable, especially when you are entering or leaving a highway. If you are told to go onto an onramp, and then it changes its mind, you could spend another 5-10 minutes getting turned around again. I don't know why this unit had this problem. It was the one reason I had to return it. I recommend purchases from Sam's Club or Costco, which allow you to return items months later (hold onto that receipt!).

The bluetooth worked for my phone, and the volume was good enough to make calls, although callers told me I was hard to hear sometimes. I did not try the MP3 player to see whether the volume was sufficient. The FM transmitter is a joke the signal is super weak and unuseable. Some reviews say to get an external FM transmitter to compensate, but that means spending more money and seems silly.

On the plus side, I used the 3D building view to help me find the Lincoln Memorial on foot in DC, but that was only the one time it helped me. The junction assist (photo realism for highway interchanges) is nice, but you will only see it in some cities.

>> 885t. Used it for 3 weeks then returned. I'll lead with the one problem I had with my unit that caused me to return it. The volume was too low. I could hear the turn prompts well enough. But it was not nearly loud enough when driving at highway speeds for phone calls or the MP3 playback. When making calls, I could not hear the caller very well, and could not be heard clearly. When using the MP3 player, I really strained to hear an audiobook, and using earbuds did not help any. It could have been a problem with my particular unit. I can't say. I may purchase another unit to see if the volume is better. Like the 765, the FM transmitter is unuseable.

However, I really liked controlling the unit through speech commands. It works very well, and is safer to do than taking your hands off the wheel to use the touch screen. You may to strap a button onto your steering wheel that is used to engage the speach recognition. It takes getting used to having it there when turning the wheel and feeling it under your grip sometimes. Even so, if they put this feature on all of their other units it would be AWESOME. Please, Garmin, keep this feature for the future! I also liked the MSN Direct service. The traffic service actually worked for me, much better than on the 765t. You can see weather forcasts and even look at a local weather radar. This can be helpful if you are driving a long ways and concerned about heading into a storm. You also can monitor stock prices, get fuel prices for nearby gas stations, and movie times. I found however movie times were not displayed for second run (discount) theaters in our area.

Lane assist and junction view worked as well as the 765t. I did not have problems with the unit telling me to go the wrong way, like I did with the 765t. As I said above, I might buy another 885t to see if the volume issue was specific to the first unit and not the model.

I received my 765T a few days ago and love it so far. After reading some up and down reviews, I wasn't certain what to expect. I am pleasantly surprised.

To start, the unit's volume is plenty loud, even at highway speeds. The screen is readable at all times, and automatically changes to a darkened "night mode" at night very easy on the eyes. You can force it to day or night mode, if desired.

The map's movement and fluidity is tremendous. It has a very natural looking motion at all times. Garmin claims the unit updates at 10fps, and it seems to be about that. I am still deciding if I prefer 3D or 2D mode yet, but both are great. I tested routing on a few trips and the navigation worked perfectly. Directions were given in plenty of time, and repeated at appropriate intervals. When just driving (not navigating) the green bar at the top displays your current road, and even displays the next exit when driving (not navigating) on major highways. This was unexpected for me and really cool! The voice on the unit is clear.

The overall feel of the software is great. The menus move quickly and seem logically laid out. You can add categories to your favorites to better organize them. This helped a lot, since favorites are sorted by default via distance from your current location. Creating folders for your favorites works very well. You can even add a picture (and phone #) to your favorites. Very nice!

As for Bluetooth: I paired the 765 with my Blackberry Storm easily, and everything works flawlessly. My phone's contacts transferred immediately, and I can call Points of Interest and people from my contacts easily, with 1 touch. I do not have any of the bluetooth issues described in other places. No issues at all. So I'm either lucky or maybe there is some inconsistency in the hardware. More likely, different combinations of cell phones and GPS units lead to varying results. IMPORTANT: I did update the unit to it's latest firmware, which many say have helped their bluetooth connections.

I haven't been to an area with a traffic reception signal yet, so I can't comment on the traffic function.

All the other niceties work well for me also: The picture viewer, MP3 player, etc all work as advertised. I even put 1 of my pics as the startup image.

In conclusion, I am very pleased with the product so far. This is a great product that I would highly recommend.

Want Garmin nuvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic (Discontinued Discount?

I purchased the Nuvi 780 on Oct 1 because the 765t wasn't available at my local big box yet. Two weeks later (and after a firmware upgrade), my 780 developed a speech impediment: "Turn left at highway . . . . . 405, then turn l . . . eft." It sounded like she had to pause to either think about where she was, or to hold a fist in front of her mouth for a silent burp or something. That unit went back and by that time the 765t was out. A swap plus $100 later, I had the new unit. Pros over the 780: much faster screen redraws, faster sat acquisition, more POIs, slight user interface tweaks (all for the better IMO) and generally a tighter feel. Cons: ad supported traffic (doesn't bother me, but it might others) and no included MSN Direct. However, after using the service for 2 weeks, I would gladly trade it for faster screen redraws and the lane assist feature. Movie times and gas prices are nice, but until I can actually make my movie and dinner reservations over the GPS, I'll forgo it. The bluetooth functionality gives me the direct-to-POI dial feature, which is so utterly cool. I just moved to the Seattle area and would be so utterly lost without this gadget. It takes the stress out of driving, and that alone is worth the hefty price.

After waiting a long time to buy a GPS and reading many, many reviews while watching the prices go up and down, I finally pulled the trigger on a Nuvi 765T on Thanksgiving morning when I saw the price drop to $349.00 on Amazon with free shipping. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price and couldn't buy it fast enough. Especially since at the time, the lowest price I had seen was around $460. Although it had the features I wanted, I had some reservations about getting the 765T because of several reviews that listed problems with the screen, speaker volume, bluetooth, missing features from the 760, etc. So after putting it though its paces for a few weeks I would like to share my observations with this unit. First off I have to say I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. In the past I had used the Nuvi 350, and several different TomTom's as well as rental car units, and this unit blows them away. The first thing I did was to up update the firmware to v.2.50 and had no problems in doing so.

Screen: The screen on the unit I received is very bright and clear. The colors look great and it is just as bright as the Nuvi 350 I had used. The sensitivity on this screen is fine and there is no problem with the calibration for buttons, etc.

Sound Quality: The sound from the speaker is very good on this unit. Could it be louder? Sure. But in normal driving with the radio at regular listening volume and /or the windows open, I have no trouble hearing it at all when set to 100%. When driving without the radio, I actually turn it down to 80% as it is too much. The navigation voice (have tried several and like Australian Karen) at 100% is clean with no distortion. From some of the reviews I had read, I was expecting to have to hold it up to my ear to hear it, but it really is fine.

Bluetooth: This was one of the things I was worried about not working, but surprisingly the Nuvi immediately paired with both my, and my wife's older Sanyo Katana phones. It also shows the phone books and the contact names for both phones. In making calls over the Nuvi, the people I have called state that the voice quality is fine and there is no echo or distortion. Although I don't use my cell phone a lot, when I do, its great not having to hold the phone and drive at the same time. Very happy with this feature.

Traffic: I was really surprised on how accurate the traffic feature on this unit has been so far, as I wasn't really expecting much. Perhaps the coverage is better in the Chicagoland area then other areas, but it has accurately shown where there were slow downs and congestion ahead on I-90/94, I-57 and I-355. The "ads" for the free traffic pop up from time to time, but I rarely notice them and they certainly are not in the way or distracting at all.

Routing: So far, with one exception, the routing has been really spot-on. The navigation has brought us to our unknown destination with no problems, and takes the routs I would normally take for the places I am familiar with. It even knew that our home street is divided by a drainage ditch and instructed me to go past our house and make the correct two left turns to get into our driveway when arriving on the opposite side of the street. This really surprised me! It did one strange thing though, when driving home from Chicago going south down the Dan Ryan expressway, I need to eventually merge west onto I-57 south, and for some reason, the Nuvi kept telling me to get on the Indiana toll road and go east, which would have taken me miles way out of my way. I should have brought up the turn list to see where it was going to take me, but I was in heavy traffic with bad weather and needed to keep my eyes on the road. Once I passed the exit for the Indiana toll road it "recalculated" and took me home perfectly. The only thing I could think of was that I had "Avoid Traffic" enabled and there was some heavy traffic on I-57 ahead which it may have been trying to avoid, but I'm not sure. I will turn off the "Avoid Traffic" feature and try it again the next time I travel that way.

Other Features: I love the Lane Assist, and the Junction View has come up many times in the Chicago area which is a big help. I have not tried the FM transmitter yet which a lot of people complain about not working well. The picture viewer is nice and I have loaded some pictures on it and taken it to friends houses and used it to show them vacation pictures. Since my car radio plays MP3's I don't have much use for the MP3 player as of yet but will try it out in the future. I loaded several POIs for various places and they work great too; giving both audio and visual prompts within set distances of the POIs.

I could go on and on, but those are the main things I wanted to share. I had read about some early complaints with this unit, especially with the pre v2.50 update, so perhaps I just go lucky with this unit, but so far I could not be happier with it!
