My Mom has used this model phone for years and the charging port finally gave up on hers leaving her with no way to recharge it and get her numbers, pictures, etc. I got this along with an extra battery and "new" phone and she was able to use the battery to transfer her data from her old, broken phone.Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car Kit

On the downside, the sound is a bit tinny (metallic, thin, and harsh). But perhaps that's what you get for the price. And I do find it annoying that it takes a different kind of charger tip from my Razr, and Moto includes only the car charger with this package.
(Perhaps some day the manufacturers will figure out that they don't really gain anything by having all these variant charger interfaces, and will standardize on one? Nah.)
Update Sep18, 2007:
I've occasionally experienced some problems with this item in the time I've had it, thought this info might be useful if you're considering buying this.
One problem is an occasional "hang" when dialing -you make a voice dial call, the phone says the name so you know it got the right number, but then nothing happens. Usually you give it a puzzled look after a few seconds, disconnect and try again, and everything works fine.
Sometimes however it's a real hang -the phone's waiting for the device, the device is waiting for the phone (probably some piece of the bluetooth protocol got dropped on the floor), and you can't disconnect, you can't power the device down, nothing. You have to get your phone out and disconnect the device from the bluetooth menu, then recycle the power on the device, then you can proceed again. I haven't figured out why this happens, or a surefire way to prevent it. Doesn't happen a lot, but it shouldn't happen at all, right? It works well, I can hear people really well, and that they seem to not have a problem either, as along as the HF820 is on my visor and not too far away. Before I has it on my console between the two seats, but that wasn't working. But when I put it on the Visor (the side away from the side window to avoid car noise) it was easier for me and for others to communicate. The battery life is great, and it linked to my V555 Motorola phone with no problems. Before, I had a full hands free kit that had to be installed in my other car. but after having to pay $140 for the kit, $100 to install it, and $100 to get it taken out of the car. I figured it would be better to try another Hands free alterative. I hate ear pieces mainly because I just don't get enough calls to justify having a thing strapped around my ear for hours on end, but this was a good median between the two. It's also nice because I can use it in any car, without a hefty $100 installation fee.

I had a Jabra SP100 and it was so bad I almost gave up on this type of device. This Motorola is SO MUCH BETTER it's amazing. The performance is adequate; that in itself is a real breakthrough for these things. Don't expect miracles; if you're at highway speed in something other than a Rolls or Lexus you're going to have to speak up, but it works OK. It's smaller and more versatile than the Jabra, too, which is nice, and its little clip dealie can double as a stand for desktop use.Folks, if you're in the market for a bluetooth speaker, don't cheap out because if you think about what you're asking a bluetooth speakerphone thing to do it's amazing they work at all for this kind of money. You can probably do better if you spend a lot more, but this is a good value and really is the cheapest you're going to find that will actually work. In fact, this one is probably the best you're going to get without having to really shell out for one that will need to be professionally installed in the car.
My only gripe is, that as much as I was disappointed by the little Jabra, it at least came with an A/C wall charger, which this does not...and with its prorietary tip I'm prepared for having to shell out another 20 bucks for a wall charger. Motorola, if you're not going to include a wall charger at least give it a generic tip (I LOVE NOKIA FOR THIS, BTW) so it isn't a double-whammy expense.
Good piece. I recommend it.

I have tried multiple wired headsets and the HS820 Moto Bluetooth ear piece for my Blackberry. They have all been either not loud enough or in the case of the HS820, bad sound quality. I decided to try the HF820 and it works really well. The volume is quiet good and the noise cancellation seems be quiet good as well as people I spoke to during my drive on the highway in my car, with windows up, didn't notice I was on the speaker unit.I didn't give it a 5 stars cause I wish there was someway to control the tone or adjust it. If it did, it would get my last star! ;-)
So, I would definitely recommend it!

I got this a week ago, and it is pretty good. I use it for my car. When you turn on the unit, your phone (mine is a Motorola V3) says "connected to Motorola HF820" and whatever sound comes from your phone now comes from the unit. So I press buttons on the phone and the speaker plays the same tones. It is loud enough for highway driving with the windows up, but not down. You have to turn off your music to hear people on it or to use the voice dialing. The voice dial is nice, I just press the main button on the unit and say a name and it dials. It uses whatever voice commands you already have in your phone. The 850 version requires install which you might be able to do. The advantages with that unit is that the music mutes when you get a call, and you don't have to charge it. It's also louder because it has a dedicated speakerbox or you can have it wired to the car sound system. But then again, that's more $. I like this for about $100 because I hate headsets and I almost got a ticket the other day.Saturday, September 6, 2014

I bought the battery right before a trans-Atlantic flight. The battery is small enough to fit in your pocket, but powerful enough to last all day. During the flight I watched 5 hours of video (2 feature movies), then listened to music while playing games for another 2 hours. All of this and the battery was only down 1 (of 5) LED's!!! This is on top of "topping off" my phone's internal battery from 80% to 100%. The music + games had previously drained my phone's battery on a 4 hour flight. In addition to the long life of the battery, it's also endowed with 2 other great features. First, it is designed to let you watch video landscape mode, a big plus. Second, the built-in USB charging capability is great... it avoids the need to carry extra cables (assuming you have a USB device with you on the trip).
For the record, I use the battery on a iPhone 3G 16GB edition.I met the Kensington rep at an event where he was showing the Travel Battery Pack and Charger to a group of us. I've used a number of other plug in batteries, but this one has a lot more juice for a compact package. The bonus is that I can watch movies on the plane while I'm charging my phone. Works great and USB connector means I don't have to carry an extra cable.

I'll cut to the chase: Lifesaver. Fits in a pocket, provides a full charge on the spot and on the go, plug-and-play simple (no cords; plugs right into the dock connector on the iPhone). For an iPhone junkie like me, this is mandatory equipment. Plus, it charges any iPod with a dock connector, so I use it for my kids' iPod Touch units, as well. Indeed, it's tempting to buy one for each pocket in every jacket, shirt, pants, and shorts I own. I know, obsessive. But if you're reading reviews of back-up iPhone chargers, you, too, have already crossed that line. The only downside is that you have to remember to charge it once you use it, because needing an emergency charger for your emergency charger is not a happy moment. But, really, this is the best use of $40 an iPhone user can make. So stop reading. Buy.Ok, I bought one about 3 weeks ago, it barely charged the iphone once before saying that there was no charge left so I assumed it was faulty and bought another one (as the old model worked great). Unfortunately same thing. It charges the iphone 4 for about 15 minutes until there is about 3/4 of the iphone charged, and then the blue bars go from 4 or 5 to nothing and it has to be completely recharged. This item is absolutely worthless for the iphone 4. I havent tried it with another iPhone but again, their previous model seemed to work much much better and would recharge my iphone at least 3 full charges.Monday, August 4, 2014

i got a blackberry 9900 two month ago, and i found out that about the poor battery life it has, so bought this car charger for my blackberry 9900. it works perfectly; however, they must mixed my order because it does not fit my blackberry 9900's charger input. it is not worth to send it back so i just threw it away(sad) :(I bought this charger for the price however you get what you pay for unfortunately in most cases. The charger worked fine for about a month and just died on me. I tried it in other car outlets just to verify that the outlet was not the problem and sure enough it does not work no more. ZOpid - Talking Universal Wireless Bluetooth Hands Free Car Kit / Speaker Phone with Built-in Recha

- One of the best hands free car kits - 12 different voice prompts make it real easy to use
- Bluetooth v1.2 - Works with any bluetooth enabled cell phone or PDA - Very easy to setup in car
- Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for clear sound and noise cancellation - Supports voice dialing
- Last number redial - 10 calls memory - Call transfer - Battery charging indicator
- Built-in rechargeable Li-Polymer battery - Up to 10 hours talk time - Up to 230 hours stand by time
When I used the carkit for the first time I felt that the volume was not loud enough but the product support website had instructions on how to fix that problem the fix required adjusting the incoming-call volume on the cell phonewhich on most phones is adjusted while you are on a phone call. The volume adjustment is required again only if the phone settings are reset.
To use voice dialing from the carkit, when it's paired with my Motorola V3, I have to press the call button twice, instead of just once as documented in the user manual. Again, I found detailed instructions on voice dialing on product support website.
My wife uses my car sometimes, so my carkit has pairing information saved for her phone as well, which makes it easier for her to use the carkit while using my car as it does not require to repeat the pairing process.
Most of the voice prompts are very helpful, but I specially like the "end of call" prompt, because with most of the bluetooth handsfree devices you cannot tell if the call has ended, unless you look at the cell phone screen.I purchased this item to compare with my other BT car kit Motorola T305 (reliable connection but not so great in sound and indication). It turns out this unit is a complete opposite.
The good sound quality, including the British-accent voice prompt from the device. It's good to know the current status of the unit and what it is doing. The volume is loud and clear. Never see the low-battery indication as I charge only once a week. (The power outlet on my car doesn't have power when the car is off and is mostly used for my radar detector.)
The bad connectivity: it took me 5 times to successfully pair with my Treo when I receive it. Once it's connected, it's often to drop the connection and pick up again after a few seconds. Occasionally it doesn't pick up anymore. Although so far it never drops the connection DURING a phone conversation, it's quite annoying to have to worry about it.
There is another unit almost identical but a little more expensive on amazon.com. May that's what the extra money is spent for.......I was excited to get this product and finally be able to speak "hands free" while driving my vehicle. I have tried other blue tooth devices that fit over the ear and have never liked the way any of them have fit. I have three cell phones (one for personnal and two for work) and was looking forward to a device that could connect to all three. After using this device for a few days I was terribly disappointed with the perfomance. I continued to use it for several more weeks hoping for an improvement, but no luck. I have listed my opinions for pro's and con's to help you decide.
Pros: Holds a charge for several days and comes with an included car charger. Very large, bright LCD display for incoming calls. Voice prompts with number. Sorry, that's all of the good stuff.
CONS: Pairs to each of my three phones with no problem.... but NOT simultaneously. It automatically pairs to my work phone (the primary pairing) when the unit is initially turned on. The device won't pair with one of the other phones unless the primary is turned off or out of range. In other words, if my personnal phone rings, the device WON'T automatically swith to that device. This is a huge inconveinence and makes the multiple pairing feature virtually USELESS to me. Also, the speaker volume is TOO LOW, even at the maximum volume setting. What does this mean? It means I really CAN'T HEAR what the person I'm having a conversation with is saying. But that almost doesn't matter because everyone I've spoken to on the device has complained about not being able to hear me, or the line having TOO MUCH STATIC. Also, the voice dialing feature on my cell phone DOES NOT WORK through this device. In other words, I still have to pick up the cell phone and dial the digits on the keypad in order to make a call. There are other negatives, but I think you get the point.
My opinion is this is a TERRIBLE product, especially for the money paid ($60 plus shipping). I only wish someone else had taken the time to write a review prior to me WASTING MY MONEY on this.

Samsung Sidekick 4G Retractable Car Charger for

After a few months I dropped it by accident and it broke in half (not a very strongly made charger) so I ordered another one, hoping this one would charge the phone reliably instead of just half the time. However, the new one will not charge it at all. I haven't gotten it to work with my Sidekick even once. Again, the blue light comes on when the charger is plugged in, but nothing happens when I plug it into my phone. I borrowed two other cell phones with micro USB charging ports (a standard flip phone and an HTC Desire) and tried this charger with those phones and it worked perfectly fine and charged them completely without any issues. But then I'd plug my Sidekick in again and I'd get no charge at all. I borrowed a friend's car charger and tried it in my car with my Sidekick and it charges it just fine, so I know it's not my Sidekick or my car's cigarette lighter that are the problem here.
I ended up trading this charger for my friend's car charger since this one works for his phone (the HTC Desire) and his works for my Sidekick, but this charger is not a reliable product. I have no idea why it will charge other phones but not the Sidekick; you'd think with the name of this product specifically naming the Sidekick 4G as the intended device to use it with that it would actually work with that phone. I gave it two stars because it does work, just not with the phone it says it's supposed to be used for. Also, I had previously ordered another retractable car charger on Amazon early this year for under 5 bucks which stopped working the same day I got it, so I guess this one is an improvement over that -and at 10 bucks, this costs a lot less than the 38 dollar car charger sold at my mobile carrier's store that looks exactly the same, so it's still not a huge loss if the thing turns out to be junk. Bottom line: if you've got a Sidekick 4G and want a car charger for it, buy something else.

Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB Port

While it advertises 175W support, that is white lie told by the marketers. The product clearly states it can *peak* at 175W but in normal operation, it is rated for 130W. This is a small but important difference. I wish they'd just tell the truth and call it a "130W inverter" but exaggerating and advertising peak values seems to be an industry norm. An example where this little lie might get you: the charger that came with my laptop is 150W and would not work with this inverter. That said, I never bring along my huge 150W laptop power supply when traveling.
This inverter seems to have a small fan which is inaudible unless you hold the inverter up to your ear. During 20 minutes of formal testing, the inverter reached an external temperature of about 100 degrees. If I shined my thermometer inside the air vents, I was able to get readings of 108 degrees. I'm guessing that this inverter gets quite warm to the touch after extended operation. I doubt that it is any different than other products like laptop power bricks. If I notice higher temperatures in extended usage, I'll update my review.
My kill-a-watt noted that the Duracell inverter provides 115.5 volts. This is a little less than I get in my house (118 volts). The power hertz was way down from what I get in my house. At home I get 59.9hz but the inverter provided between 24 and 37hz. The faceplate says it will 120volts @ 60hz but I'm not sure if this is an issue with the kill-a-watt or the inverter. I'm not a physicist so I don't really know what applications are impacted by the difference in frequency.
My first test of the Duracell inverter was to make use of its USB port to charge my phone. There wasn't much to this testI plugged the cell phone into the USB port and it started charging. I count this as a success.
My next test was to plug in my laptop using the aforementioned 150W power supply. The laptop did not show that it was charging and the inverter's green power light started flashing. It appeared to be protecting itself from drawing too much power. Another success.
Next I plugged my laptop's 60 watt power supply into the inverter and confirmed that my laptop was now charging. The kill-a-watt showed I was drawing about 40 watts and the laptop indicated that it was plugged in. More success.
My final test was my CPAP machine. I've always wanted to be able to sleep in the car when on long trips but I have sleep apnea and require a CPAP machine. I wasn't crazy enough to plug my heated humidifier into this but I did test the CPAP and it worked fine. The machine draws 25 watts when operational so it's a fairly light load. Still, I was quite happy to see this work as this could definitely be something I use when on long drives.
Overall, I think this inverter is a steal. The small size will truly fit in your pocket and it seems to have enough capacity for almost anything reasonable that you will try to do in your car (charge a laptop). It also includes a set of clamp cables that could attach directly to a car or marine battery. This would be a great, inexpensive power solution for someone that lives in a place that sometimes loses power. Of course, you'd be very constrained on the wattage you could use so I think this would only work in the case of emergencies. But if you were an avid camper and could some how drag along a battery, this might be a handy way to plug in something like a CPAP machine when in the middle of nowhere. This small and lightweight inverter is ideal for charging a laptop and a USB-powered iPod, cellphone or similiar device. It runs on the quiet side and fits nicely inside a laptop carrier or inside a car's glove compartment. It's one of the smallest devices I have owned for my electronic gadgets while traveling and performs excellently. I use it both for a small 10" notebook and to recharge my Kindle.
Although it comes with 12-volt cable clips, using them while driving would be impractical but are an added bonus at a campsite where a more powerful electronic device would need to be charged, but then make sure the car battery doesn't get depleted. The manual states a two-hour run time off a car battery while idle, but why tempt it?
I appreciate the added safety features on this small inverter. It has an electronic overload protection with automatic shutdown (the ideal range is 130-170W of combined devices), a non-user replacable 25 A fuse, low battery voltage shutdown and high-input voltage protection with automatic shutdown. Although I haven't had this happen to me yet, it also comes with an overheat protection with automatic shutdown. All these features help prevent blow-outs and destruction of electronic cigarette lighters and other outputs.
Its one weakness is the cigarette lighter plug itself. It stands about three inches long, so if your car's cigarette lighter is positioned in a tight spot, this device may be awkward or impossible to use. If your car's lighter is in the front dashboard with no obstructions, though, and you have only a laptop and iPod/iPhone to charge, this little gadget is ideal. It comes with a three-year limited warranty.
Buy Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB Port Now
The product works fine, but it fails to mention on amazon that this is 175 watts PEAK. On the device it reads 130 watts continuous, 175 watts peak. I bought this to charge my dell lattitude work laptop in my car and even with the laptop powered off it is unable to charge it. My laptop requires 150 watts so I thought I'd be covered with 175 but 130 isn't enought to get it done. I've been able to find other uses for it, and it works fine for charging camera batteries and handheld devices, but the ad is a little misleading.Update: After re-reading the description, it does say "up to 100 watts compatability", but I still feel that should have been mentioned in the first line right next to "175". Still misleading, but I didn't read carefully enough.

This is my third inverter, and (just based on one test) this one is way, way, way quieter than my cheesy inverter from Walgreens and the cheesy (CyberPower) one from Walmart. As I understand almost all the noise is from tiny whiny fans, and the others sounded like high-pitched Dust Busters. By comparison this one was (for five minutes, at 40W) practically silent. On the other hand, the box says it's 175 watts, but only if you hook it up directly to the car battery using the enclosed tiny jumper cables. Probably not what most people had in mind. The box says 175 watts peak power, 130 watts continuous (apparently with the jumpers), 120 watts (peak? continuous?) from the lighter socket. That's fine with me, but that's what it is.
Update: Year later, occasional use, still silent. As a 120-watt (peak?) inverter my experience is five-star. Just a truth-in-labeling issue.

I wanted something for charging my phone and to run my laptop in the car which this did adequately. Kudos and thanks for that. 5 stars in this application.THEN I discovered I could use it while camping while attached to a car battery to power LED lighting and an audio system it did this but with significant issues. Assuming you are pulling 100W or less (I'd say keep it below 50W constant to avoid overheating), this thing still only puts out about 115VAC/50Hz, which is low compared to your home's 120-125VAC/60Hz. While this may be fine for the power supplies that charge your phone and laptop, some electronics are sensitive to this and will perform strangely or not at all with this kind of power.
100 feet of color changing LED string lights pulled a total of about 9 Watts, but the color patterns and cycling were all strange and distracting all of the pretty "fades" were very messy and distracting "steps". I've seen my 2.1 sound system (about 18W draw) have the volume function not work on occasion, volume had to be controlled at the source device. I had a 60W home theater with subwoofer running off this thing rather successfully, but the buttons controlling the amp would act weird or not at all. Returning these devices to clean house power or to my inverted generator power would yield perfect operation.
I suppose it could fry small motors or fragile electronics with it's low power over long term use, but it does do what it's meant to do quite well charge your small electronics off of a 12v system. Also note that it draws less power from the 12v source if it does not need it which conserves a 12v battery.
If you intend to run audio systems and LED lights off this thing and a 12v battery I'd recommend getting a more solid unit.

OEM Original Home Wall AC Travel Charger + USB 2.0 Data Sync Connect Transfer Charge Cable for T-Mo

This has been a good replacement so far charges quickly. I've tried charging it via USB/laptop and also using the travel charger in an outlet, and it works fine.
I will definitely order from this company again when it comes time.Works with my Droid Bionic. I bought two. One to have at home and one for work since I have a bad habit of forgetting it.I bought this a year ago and I can say this was a good purchase, I saved money and it has worked just as good as the original charger that came with the phone.
No complaints.I have had no problems with this charger. works great and is well made I have no complaints with this chargerI needed another charger for my phone while traveling. This works great and the price was right so I bought two.
