The item works great with the Sony player and reflects exactly what was in the photo for the add. The only down fall was a slight engine wine so I added a noise suppressor to the cars lighter plug. Over all for the sound and price of the product my purchase was very satisfying.

5-in-1 Auto Charger. 4-Port USB Car Charger and 1 12V DC Cigarette Socket - Great for iPhones, iPod

5-in-1 Auto Charger. 4-Port USB Car Charger and 1 12V DC Cigarette Socket - Great for iPhones, iPods, GPS, PSP, Cell Phones, Radar Detectors
  • One 12V DC lighter socket splits into 4 USB Charging ports plus 1 lighter socket
  • 5-in-1 Auto Charger
  • Sleek black surface and innovative design
  • Input: 12 ~ 24VDC.Output 5.0 ~ 5.5V.Output Current: 2000mA (total for the 5 charge ports)
  • Safety fuse for worry free charging

I was using this to charge my phones and run something off the cigarette lighter at the same time. It melted! Got so hot I couldn't handle it to pull it out. Isn't that what the build in fuse is supposed to prevent? Don't buy this.

Bought this to power both mine and my wife's Droid Incredibles and the ipod nano at the same time with room for more accessories in the future, but it couldn't even charge a single incredible by itself. The the phone's charging indicator would turn on and off repeatedly. It could charge the nano, but if you tried to play it while charging on this thing, it would produce a loud screechy-whiny noise. Don't know whether it was some kind of ground-loop interference or just dirty power. RMA'd.

Want 5-in-1 Auto Charger. 4-Port USB Car Charger and 1 12V DC Cigarette Socket - Great for iPhones, iPod Discount?

The blurb says "great for charging iPhones, iPods, GPS..." NOT!!!! Do not buy this!! I would have given it ZERO stars but Amazon won't let me. Even though it has a 3 amp fuse the converter only allows it to supply each port with .5 amp, not enough to charge any modern USB devices which all require 1 amp. It will NOT power my TomTom GPS, my Samsung phone, my Phillips MP3 player, my LG phone, or anything else I have plugged into it. I threw it in the trash. Other reviews told me this in advance, but the blurb said otherwise and I believed the blurb. I will not be buying any further products from this seller because of the deceptive advertising. I'm still looking for a 4 port USB charger, darn it.

I hardwired a 12v socket and hidden it in the car. I have my Garmin traffic reciever plugged into the main socket as well as a mini USB and 2 x USB extention cables (to allow passengers to charge up devices). I'm not sure why others are having issues but it powers and charges my EVO 4G and GPS just fine. Simultaneously. I've even used another connection to charge my work phone and it charged fine. thumbs up from me.

Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car Kit

Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car KitWorks very well, I haven't had any problems with connectivity, voice dialing, volume, sensitivity, etc. I've used it in rush-hour driving, and it's quite usable despite the background noise. (Quite useful if you need to have a conference call from your car!) Battery life is fine as well.

On the downside, the sound is a bit tinny (metallic, thin, and harsh). But perhaps that's what you get for the price. And I do find it annoying that it takes a different kind of charger tip from my Razr, and Moto includes only the car charger with this package.

(Perhaps some day the manufacturers will figure out that they don't really gain anything by having all these variant charger interfaces, and will standardize on one? Nah.)

Update Sep18, 2007:

I've occasionally experienced some problems with this item in the time I've had it, thought this info might be useful if you're considering buying this.

One problem is an occasional "hang" when dialing -you make a voice dial call, the phone says the name so you know it got the right number, but then nothing happens. Usually you give it a puzzled look after a few seconds, disconnect and try again, and everything works fine.

Sometimes however it's a real hang -the phone's waiting for the device, the device is waiting for the phone (probably some piece of the bluetooth protocol got dropped on the floor), and you can't disconnect, you can't power the device down, nothing. You have to get your phone out and disconnect the device from the bluetooth menu, then recycle the power on the device, then you can proceed again. I haven't figured out why this happens, or a surefire way to prevent it. Doesn't happen a lot, but it shouldn't happen at all, right?

It works well, I can hear people really well, and that they seem to not have a problem either, as along as the HF820 is on my visor and not too far away. Before I has it on my console between the two seats, but that wasn't working. But when I put it on the Visor (the side away from the side window to avoid car noise) it was easier for me and for others to communicate. The battery life is great, and it linked to my V555 Motorola phone with no problems. Before, I had a full hands free kit that had to be installed in my other car. but after having to pay $140 for the kit, $100 to install it, and $100 to get it taken out of the car. I figured it would be better to try another Hands free alterative. I hate ear pieces mainly because I just don't get enough calls to justify having a thing strapped around my ear for hours on end, but this was a good median between the two. It's also nice because I can use it in any car, without a hefty $100 installation fee.

Buy Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car Kit Now

I had a Jabra SP100 and it was so bad I almost gave up on this type of device. This Motorola is SO MUCH BETTER it's amazing. The performance is adequate; that in itself is a real breakthrough for these things. Don't expect miracles; if you're at highway speed in something other than a Rolls or Lexus you're going to have to speak up, but it works OK. It's smaller and more versatile than the Jabra, too, which is nice, and its little clip dealie can double as a stand for desktop use.

Folks, if you're in the market for a bluetooth speaker, don't cheap out because if you think about what you're asking a bluetooth speakerphone thing to do it's amazing they work at all for this kind of money. You can probably do better if you spend a lot more, but this is a good value and really is the cheapest you're going to find that will actually work. In fact, this one is probably the best you're going to get without having to really shell out for one that will need to be professionally installed in the car.

My only gripe is, that as much as I was disappointed by the little Jabra, it at least came with an A/C wall charger, which this does not...and with its prorietary tip I'm prepared for having to shell out another 20 bucks for a wall charger. Motorola, if you're not going to include a wall charger at least give it a generic tip (I LOVE NOKIA FOR THIS, BTW) so it isn't a double-whammy expense.

Good piece. I recommend it.

I have tried multiple wired headsets and the HS820 Moto Bluetooth ear piece for my Blackberry. They have all been either not loud enough or in the case of the HS820, bad sound quality. I decided to try the HF820 and it works really well. The volume is quiet good and the noise cancellation seems be quiet good as well as people I spoke to during my drive on the highway in my car, with windows up, didn't notice I was on the speaker unit.

I didn't give it a 5 stars cause I wish there was someway to control the tone or adjust it. If it did, it would get my last star! ;-)

So, I would definitely recommend it!

Want Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car Kit Discount?

I got this a week ago, and it is pretty good. I use it for my car. When you turn on the unit, your phone (mine is a Motorola V3) says "connected to Motorola HF820" and whatever sound comes from your phone now comes from the unit. So I press buttons on the phone and the speaker plays the same tones. It is loud enough for highway driving with the windows up, but not down. You have to turn off your music to hear people on it or to use the voice dialing. The voice dial is nice, I just press the main button on the unit and say a name and it dials. It uses whatever voice commands you already have in your phone. The 850 version requires install which you might be able to do. The advantages with that unit is that the music mutes when you get a call, and you don't have to charge it. It's also louder because it has a dedicated speakerbox or you can have it wired to the car sound system. But then again, that's more $. I like this for about $100 because I hate headsets and I almost got a ticket the other day.

AIMS PWRIC150012S 1500 Watt Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter with Battery Charger, 12 Volt

AIMS PWRIC150012S 1500 Watt Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter with Battery Charger, 12 Volt
  • USB Port and dual AC receptacles that can be used with any separate splitter for even more outlets
  • Rapid and automatic transfer switch for seamless power transfer
  • Built-in 10 Amp battery charge
  • Volt and Amp display
  • Includes port for optional remote switch

Purchased inverter from "The Inverter Store" which apparently is AIMS sales division same address. Original unit died after 4 or 5 uses but just out of warranty. Bought another of the exact same part number to match all the existing wiring and mounting points. New unit was completely different, even the amount of outlets was different; only one on this one. New unit arrived with a screw sticking 1" out the bottom. Service tech told me to screw it back in. Installed the 'new' one it did not work at all. So, AIMS no longer carries this unit it's still in warranty so they are refunding my money BUT NOT THE RETURN SHIPPING. I asked how they could expect customers to pay for returning a product that had manufacturing defects and they said: "That's our policy."

DO NOT WALK BUT RUN AWAY FROM AIMS INVERTERS. They are absolute junk.

2 ADD-ON Solar Charging Panel Extensions for ReVIVE Series Solar ReStore XL External Backup Battery

2 ADD-ON Solar Charging Panel Extensions for ReVIVE Series Solar ReStore XL External Backup Battery Pack - Triples your ReStore's solar charging speed!ok. these work. but...just a little bit of rough service (and by rough, I mean carrying them along on a trip in a bag) will result in the panels separating from one another (solar panel front and plastic back, creating gap which causes big problems because of the spring loaded connectors). oh sure try to take them apart with a jewelry screwdriver to "fix" it. You will find that the plastic anchors will break. and now you need another one.

as long as they don't separate, they work great. I would say they are worth buying one or two, but just keep in mind treat them as if they are faberge' eggs....

I got the 2 add on pack for my ReStore XL. I spent a day up in Lambeau Field with my son, and kept having to fire up the car once in a while to recharge things (2 ipads, 2 iphones) during the tailgating. I wanted more options, so started looking around Amazon, and went with the XL.

These were a good price to get three times the speed on recharging when I'm out and about, and they hook up really easily. Spring loaded hooks hold them to each other, and it comes with the piece to connect them to the XL, although the XL came with one as well.

Checking the connections is easy, just get it in sunlight and start charging, and there's a test button to press on the adapter that goes between the charger and these panels, and it turns a little light on each panel on when they've got a connection.

My problem was the build quality. The plastic is very fragile one of them came already cracked where the metal hook would slip in, so I just ended up putting that one on the "outside" where nothing would have to hook up to it. But that means I need to be careful when using them any other cracks, and I won't be able to use at least one of them.

Charging time has improved drastically, so while I haven't done any timed tests with and without, it was definitely worth it for me.

Buy 2 ADD-ON Solar Charging Panel Extensions for ReVIVE Series Solar ReStore XL External Backup Battery Now

Pros:

1) Simple

2) Works

3) Drastically improved charging time

4) Enable getting full 4 bars on the XL on only solar

5) Tiny LED indicator

Cons:

1) Price

2) Should be included with the XL

The ReStore XL claims to full charge from empty in 11 hours but I was never able to get it to 4 bars even after leaving it in full sunlight for at least 8 hours a day for 4 days. I plan to use this on my bike touring trip so I decided I needed to get the extra panels. So far they work wonders on the XL. I was able to full charge from 1 bar to 4 bars in about 3.5 hours of sunlight. I also like the testing button as well as the tiny LED that indicates when the panels are putting out power. It would flicker when place in the sun.

Installation was easy and because of the way it is designed, it folds nicely into a compact case for easy storage.

I highly recommend this if you have the XL and having trouble getting to 4 bars on the panels itself.

I bought this charger and the two solar panel add-on pack. The connection between the main charger and solar add on panels is so pathetically poor it will not make electrical contact.

this item is big. It ls about 4 times the size of my 7000 mah (Non-solar) new trent battery pack (without the add-on panels too). too big to carry to be of any use to me.

unfortunately since i discarded the packaging, I'm told I can't return it now. i would have rather lit my money on fire, at least i'd see some cool flames.

maybe i got a defect but i don't think so. this technology is interesting but it just isn't ready for mainstream.

if you're brave enough to try it, i beg you: save your packaging to return this when you experience your inevitable disappointment.

EDIT 11/6: After posting this review I got a very nice email from Accesory Genie, they took the product back and refunded my money. Still one star for the product but 5 stars for Accessory Genie for stepping up and makign this right for me! I would buy from them again.

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Silver)

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G
  • Compatibility: iPod nano 2G
  • FM transmitter in silver matches exact width of iPod nano for a sleek look
  • External antenna boosts signal for superior transmission--no batteries needed
  • Seamless integration with on-screen display and tuning; three programmable station presets
  • Pass-through dock connector lets you charge for unlimited playtime

I have spent more money than I can count on FM transmitters for various iPods that I have had. By far, This is the best. Very easy to set up and use. If fact, it came with no instructions--its that easy--plug and play. No downloading of channels on the iPod either. If you have a Nano, you have to have this for your car.

Buy XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Silver) Now

Originally I was going to use this in the car. However, I find I use it more at work and home with other FM radios and receivers. I have had not problems with static (other local station) and I do live in a large metropolitan area (Washington DC). I believe that the static issue a reviewer mentions is more of a receiver issue than the FM Transmitter.

The sound quality is not CD quality, but FM usually isn't. Overall I think its a great little product that actually looks like it belongs to the iPod and works in a car, home, office, hotel, etc.

Read Best Reviews of XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Silver) Here

I have used the iTrip for the past couple of years and while it works great in areas where the selected frequency is clear, it is virtually impossible to change the frequency on the fly when I drive into an area where there is interference... particularly if traffic is thick. The Airplay can be adjusted without interrupting play (as others can) but it also has 3 station presets which I have matched to 3 station presets on my car radio. When I encounter interference (such as when passing through cities on the interstate), I switch between the presets until I find a clear frequency. Why not a 5? The buttons feel cheap... if they hold up over time, it will be a 5.

Want XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Silver) Discount?

I was very disappointed with this new model. Despite its cool specifications, including displaying the broadcast frequency on the nano screen, it didn't perform as well as the older model (designed for 1st-gen iPod nano). The signal was weak, there was a lot of static. Adjusting the broadcast antenna, and moving the unit around to different locations inside the car didn't help. The older model (which I still have, and which does work with the 2nd-gen nano) performs much better. By the way, both my cars (Honda Accord and Pilot) have their radio antennas embedded in the rear/rear-side windows which should help in-car reception with this type of product. It didn't help with the Airplay Boost (2nd-gen).

Performance inside my house (through various FM receivers) was similarly disappointing.

I returned the Airplay Boost for a refund (minus the restocking fee). In its place I bought the Griffin iTrip for Nano 2G which is awesome and far exceeds my expectations for about the same price.

This pretty much does exactly what it says it does. The sound quality isn't as good as I was hoping, but not bad. Plus, it fits on my IPOD without me having to take off the case! Yay!

CTEK 56-674 Battery Charger

CTEK 56-674 Battery ChargerA long time ago (3 years whoa) I bought a ctek 3amp charger/maintainer and used it for my genset so it would always be ready to go (it's an autostart but does not have a battery maintainer). I was amazed at how well the battery was maintained by the little 3A charger.

EDIT: 12/2012

I've had my 25000 for a couple years now and a few people have emailed me with questions I did not answer previously. I'll summarize them here

1 reliability like a charm. Unlike the 7000 series (7A), the 25000 (25A) series has an internal ducted cooling fan which only comes on during high current charging for long life.

2 featurs it has the desulphation mode like the other chargers, but can handle larger cells. Other than that it does NOT have the ability to select SLA (gel cells), wet cells, or marine cells

3 temperature sensor unlike it's smaller cousins, there are 3 wires at the end of the fixed cable (which does not work with their accessory system as it does not have the required connector) the 3rd wire is a temperature sensor designed to be held close to the battery during charge so that voltages are adjusted for cold or hot weather and battery temperature. This helps protect the battery from overcurrent or overcharge. To sum it up in one word its a very fast charger, and safe at the same time NOTHING like the old crank up the timer based on the voltmeter chargers.

Those where the 3 questions I was asked now everyone knows. BTWI just ordered another one of these as I loaned mine to a friend who uses ctek's smaller units and he was so impressed he gave me the money to buy a new one as he liked mine so much.

back to the original review now

I later bought 2 of their 7002 series chargers these were 7 Amp capacity and had extra features for dealing with a wider range or chemistries like the spiracell optima batteries I use in many applications. I even installed the under $20 dash mount charger interface in a spare din opening in my dash it was a 30 minute job but gave me the convenience of a plug in for my charger without having to pop the hood and clip it on just plug the charger into the dash outlet, and it included a battery guage of blinking leds red for discharged, yellow for discharging, and green for full. They blink all the time and use very little power

Since amazon does not carry the 25000 I became involved in discussions with CTEK and was shipped a unit for evaluation of my battery banks that are paralleled from multiple 12VDC cells. the 25000's closest relative is the 7002 and it features many of the same "stairstep" leds for indication of how the charge is progressing.

At 25A, it is the most powerful CTEK charger to date, equivalent to about 3.5 7002 chargers and priced at about 3.0 7002 chargers, so it's more economical if you have a battery bank. I am very pleased that they kept the battery desulphating features that ctek is known for in the 25000. The extra current is nice to have when you have 4 100AH cells in parallel for a 400 AH battery bank that occasionally needs topping off or desulphating. Ctek has always been at the forefront of chargers and accessories to go with them they are rated for wet environments and mine have been rained on more than once without a failure. If you have multiple batteries such as an RV with 2 deep cycle 12VDC cells and 1 engine starting battery, this is the ideal charger when you find AC. And with 25A, it most likely can power your 12VDC low power devices without draining your battery bank. When I say MOST that excludes the microwave, big screen TV but includes the 12VDC lighting inside the RV and a small TV set. The advantage to you is when you pull into an RV park with AC power you can recharge your deep cycle cells and run the inside lighting off the CTEK 25000 at the same time with 25 amps of supply current.

I borrowed the flir microbolimeter from the lab becuse the unit gets warm, but checking the ctek connectors they stayed relatively cool for running a 25 A current through them. That's impressive in and of itself.

I would highly recommend this to RV users, solar users, or anyone with a battery bank of 12V cells in parallel. Its rated for 50-500 AH storage capacity and represents the top of the line in CTEK power chargers.

Charges fast and is smart enough to extend the life of my batteries. So called automatic chargers don't do the same things this one can do. The auto float is an awesome feature. Other chargers will continue to "cook" your battery.

Buy CTEK 56-674 Battery Charger Now

I've used three other chargers and the "Multi US 25000" is the best! It saved three of my expensive AGM batteries. Sure, I wish it had a digital readout 'cause I like eye-candy but I'm not too lazy to put the volt meter on the battery(s). Nice heavy cables/clamps and soldered too. Temp sensor on the positive clamp. I do wish they had made the battery cable in such a way that I could reach further than 31 inches between the positive and negative battery posts (battery bank). You can charge up to 500 amp hours worth of batteries at a time.

I received this new CTEK US25000 and it worked for 1 day! I contacted the seller and he said he would get back to me, so far not a word in 6 months!

I have used CTEK battery US3300's and never had a problem, as in most first runs probably just working out the bugs, as for the seller, not good customer service.

Thanks, Ron

Samsung Focus i917 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable for Sam

Samsung Focus i917 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable for Samsung Focus i917The USB cable does not allow the telephone to be recognized by my PC.

The wall charger caused the touchscreen to 'freeze'

Despite the great price, I would not recommend this product.

I purchased this pack the same day i purchased my phone so they would arrive together. This pack actually arrived first, which is wonderful, but i noticed immediately that the USB cable included (which is very short mind you, about 3') was bent a bit on the micro side and would not work. I gave the company a two star seller feedback and they contacted me that night to resolve the issue. They told me that they would send me out a new USB cable and that i should look for an e-mail with instructions. They then slipped in that i should reconsider my seller feedback, which i would gladly change if the issue was resolved. As pleasant a surprise as this was, no e-mail or replacement ever came and here i am to this day, almost a month later with a tweaked USB cable that does not function.

I believe it is worth mentioning that the wall charger and car charger work fine.

I started out really liking this product because I could charge my phone quickly while on the go, but soon found that the wiring link separated and it became useless. I wish that the manufacturer could develop good sheathing so that separation of wires does not occur (due to the plastic cover over the wires breaking and coming off). Motorcycle DIN Hella Socket Dual USB Charger for Phone / GPS SatNav

Motorcycle DIN Hella Socket Dual USB Charger for Phone / GPS SatNavI really needed the outlet at the last moment to support my GPS for a 400 mile run in CT. I was so relieved when it came, it looked the perfect cheap solution to hard wiring something to the electrical system, The problem is that after 10 minutes, it juggled out of the port on the BMW's "tank". I jammed it in again, and waited for the GPS to fire up again. A frw minutes later, same thing. In the end I taped it to the open cover of the port with electrical tape I was carrying, and that almost worked the rest of the day. It was a cheap solution and I got what I paid for.

If you get it, make sure it fits well. Play with the connections or something, and use a tether to the bars...otherwise when you look down, it will be gone.

I have a OEM power outlet on my BMW F800GS. All BMW bikes usually come with a factory power outlet that is smaller than a regular car cigarette charger outlet.

After looking at some options to hardwire a USB charger or a cigarette outlet, I decided to get this one, as it involves no modifications to the bike and uses the stock power outlet.

Pros:

1. Has 2 USB charging ports.

2. Rated at 2A total, each port at 1A.

3. Charges phones and other USB devices pretty fast. (If you have USB device that requires 2A charging, then please be aware that it will charge slowly)

4. Nice blue power LED.

5. Weather proof cap although it's nice to have, but can't be used when the charging cable is plugged in. I don't think anyone would ride with the adapter plugged into the bike and not actually charging any devices.

6. The angled shape faces the rider and thus makes it easier to run the charging cable to the phone in your jacket while riding.

Cons:

1. I wish it would fit slightly more snug in the power outlet. Although it isn't loose by any means, but its not snug.

2. STOPPED WORKING after 15hrs of usage. Will update my review if the seller offers a replacement.

Pioneer GEX-INNO2BK Inno 2 Portable XM Satellite Radio with MP3 Capability

Pioneer GEX-INNO2BK Inno 2 Portable XM Satellite Radio with MP3 Capability
  • 1GB storage capacity for up to 50 hours of music
  • Up to 15 hours playback or five hours live XM radio on a single charge
  • 1.7-inch full-color TFT LCD (180 x 180 pixel resolution)
  • Record from live XM Satellite Radio, play back MP3 and WMA audio files
  • One-year limited warranty

I've had XM for four years, and this is the third type of unit I've had, and it is, by far, the best. I owned the portable Delphi unit, which worked fine. I bought this Inno for a friend, and when I saw it, I fell in love and bought one myself.

Why I love it:

Size: It is small, and sleek. It comes with a little leather case to protect it (bravo to Pioneer for not making me spend another $30 on an after-market case!) on the go.

Reception: It has an internal antenna that little stub on the top of it in the picture is the antenna. Unlike the old Delphi, no need for an external wire clipped to clothing for reception; the reception is GREAT and smooth.

Battery: I haven't gone out all day yet, but after three hours yesterday, the battery was still over half charged. The battery indicator is clear as well. BTW, the unit comes with a slight charge, so you can "play" with it right away; no maddening "please wait 8 hours before first use."

Recording: Easy to quickly record a station, a single song, and even schedule a recording in the future. This is good for the talk radio channels.

Menu: Easy to flip through and select menus. The display screen is a great improvement; it isn't just color because it's cool; it's designed to make navigation easier.

Power: No need to lug cradle on trips. It comes with an additional more compact charger for travel. Thanks!

Why someone might complain:

Earphones: I've read reviews complaining about the earbuds. Yes, they are cheap, but so what? I've got so many other ones scattered about, it isn't really an issue. I use my ipod buds, my Bose headset, whatever. Who cares about the little earbuds? It's just something so the package is complete, and you can listen right away.

FM Modulator: Not internal to the unit, but must be purchased with the car or other kit. But then again, there are so many of those on the market, I appreciate that they didn't eat up size/functions with the modulator that is easily added on elsewhere. This is a PORTABLE unit. I don't really need a modulator when I'm out walking around...

Memory: Again, I've heard complaints about the storage size for books and recordings. I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been a slot for a card, but I'm okay with that. I've got an ipod; I'll leave my books on there. I'll use this radio as a RADIO.

OVERALL it's great. Reception is good and consistent, screen easy to navigate, solid battery charge, and the accessories in the box are great no need to buy aftermarket anything.

I've had this radio for a few weeks, and I think I can give an accurate review now. This is my first time having satellite radio, and I love it! The station selection is awesome, but I will not go there because I am not reviewing XM.

The Inno is sized about the same as an iPod, and it is really sleek (and slick for that matter.) As this is intended for all around use (car, home, and portable) it is very adaptable. I think it is very neat that when sitting sideways on the dock the Inno automatically switches sideways so you can look at the screen face on. The pad adjusts as well, so everything is very logical.

Some of the main features that are impressive are:

--The recording capability--even if you are almost all the way through the song you can get the whole thing!

--The bookmark capability. You can bookmark an artist or a particular song and anytime that artist or song is playing on any station the Inno will let you know so you can switch over.

--The ability to create a "favorites" list of stations.

--The ability to display the current song/artist on any given station.

--The option to have sports/stock tickers running that shows scores, etc, while listening to the radio.

OK, there's a ton of useful options. Really, I just love being able to listen to what I want on a very cool little "toy." Having never owned a satellite radio before, I am not an "expert" and I'm sure this has flaws, but don't point them out to me. I will likely not hear you because I will be plugged into my radio!

I bought my Inno2 on Monday. It's my first XM radio, and I've never owned Sirius, so understand that this is a first timer's point of view.

What I *love* about this unit: You can record XM radio, and replay it later. Where I work and use the unit mostly is in an office without a way to use the required antenna for reception. Even though this unit claimes to be portable, it still won't work indoors, w/o direct line of sight to the satelite (read see the southern sky.) BUT, you can record up to 50 hours or so of XM radio. You can recored multiple sessions of different stations, which is very cool. I like liquid metal, alt rock and gangsta rap. I recored about 30 hours of music this week, brought the docking bay into my office, and listened away. You can also build custom playlists from the recorded music (from different sessions, channels, etc, mix and match as much as you like.) When you record sessions of radio, it saves the songs like MP3 w/ artist and song and genre info. You can use this to create playlists of a particular genre, or mix and match in any way you like. You can also search for song, artist, genre and play a particular song from whatever you recorded previously.

If you select to listen to a recorded session, it's just like listening live has all the artist info scrolling, etc. If you make a playlist with random songs (or shuffle them) then you do have one small inconvenience the start and end of each song will have fade in and outs of other songs mixed in. This is because when recording something that was live, they cross-faded the songes. When playing a whole recorded session, it sounds perfectly natural of course. Personaly this is rarly even noticeable when playing playlists of random songs.. But if you are a perfectionist get ready for a slight annoyance. One more note XM is perhaps commercial free, but it still has promotional announcements and odd bits of interest (like a 2Min interviwe w/ an artist, etc.) They get saved to memory just like other songs, and you can delete them when you run across them during playback later if you are so inclined.

I would have given this unit 5 stars except that the menu system just plain makes me cry. Perhaps it's because this is my first XM unit, but coming from the MP3 player world, doing simple tasks like adding songs to a playlist are accomplish. For instance, to add music to a playlist, you dont' go to the playlist section go to the recorded music, find the genre, pic an individual song, then select 'add to playlist' from there. If you want to add an entire genre or recorded channel's music, you do it by pretending you want to add just one song from that selection, then when you have the 'add to playlist' selected for that one song, it has an option to add them all. But I'm getting more comfortable with the menu system, and I still am very very glad I got this badboy.

The unit itself feels very solid. The buttons seem like they'll last a LONG time, there's no loose fitting parts. It's fairly well sealed, I suppose it can handle light rain or the occasional light laugh induced soda nose spray. The screen is sweet to say the least. Turn the unit on its side to put it in the docking station, and the whole screen rotates 90Degrees, as do the buttons, so that even on its side the button layout and words are properly orientated. This makes the thing feel realy well developed. The info on the display is easy to read, you can pick small or large fonts, and a stock ticker if you're big into money.

The system comes with an antenna, a docking bay, wall-plug power supply, some headphones and an adapter cord (for using the power plug without the docking bay.) The docking bay is solid, sits at a great angle to display the unit (it is tilted back just a small bit,) and the unit plugs in snug-n-easy. There is an audio-out on the docking bay, for playing through a stereo (cord included). You can use the headphone jack while the system is in the docking bay, allowing you to use the remote control's volume. The remote is great, even when using on a desk w/in reach, because you don't have to grab the whole system to change a song. The headphones are ok, but I am MUCH happier with the sound I get from my Sony $20 headphones. The included headphones are very comfortable, but have only a fair sound quality, with little bass. I've never seen a system ship with decent headphones, so this is status quoe in my book.

You can upload MP3s and such to the unit, which is plug-n-play with the provided USB cable. You can not to my knowledge play movies on it. I was trying to get away from that whole upload MP3 song and dance, so while I tested it, and it worked, I'd rather grab tens of hours of DJ provided music for literaly $13 a month. To play recorded XM radio, you have to maintain your XM radio account, of course.

While XM has something for everyone, personaly, I find that it only has probably 10-15 channels I'll ever listen too. There are 170 channels of course, but get rid of the sports and country music, the news channels, etc, and it has a comfortable selection of usable channels to keep me entertained and awake while working.

While this unit has an entenna built in, using the unit without a connected antenna (i.e. standing outside if you turn in a cirle while listening to it in your hand, it'll probably lose signal. But in a car, home w/ the antenna in a window, or listening to pre-recorded music, it's just phenominal. SO just because it looks like a portable radio, don't expect to put it in your pocket and use it while mountain bike riding unless you'er playing pre-recorded music. From what I have heard, the antenna headphones might work ok, but I haven't tried them, nor do I plan to step back into the 1990's and have a C-Clamp strapped to my cranium once again.

I couldn't be happier with this thing all in all. It's cool, sounds great, feels solid. I figure it was worth every penny of the $200 I paid.

As a side note, the car docking bay feels pretty fragile. It hangs from the A/C or Heating Vents in your dash, it's wiggly, and bounces around a little when you go over small bumps and around corners.

Want Pioneer GEX-INNO2BK Inno 2 Portable XM Satellite Radio with MP3 Capability Discount?

The Inno is my first satellite radio. I bought it mainly as a means of getting to listen to new music without having to go hunt for it, or listen to endless adverts. The fact that the Inno is portable was a major factor in deciding on this particular unit.

Pros its reasonably well made (not as nicely finished as an iPod, but not cheap feeling either). It comes with a reasonable set of earbuds. The XM channel selection is superb!

Cons the door to the battery compartment is held on with some really flimsy tabs, I wouldn't like to change battery often since these will likely break off after a few uses. The sound quality of XM radio is not as good as I thought it would be (this is not a comment on this radio, rather its a comment on all satellite radios the talk shows sound like AM, the music sounds like some low bps MP3s. All in all the sound is quite murky and sibilant compared to an iPod and decent earphones. That said, its good enough for casual listening while outdoors. I'm just glad I didn't pay $990 to get XM fitted as an option in my car!).

The Inno does what I need it to do. What it doesn't do is play well as a 'live' XM radio outdoors. Trees and buildings (or even your arm) frequently get in the way of the signal, and the sound dies. Making it too annoying to use. Since nothing I listen to is time sensitive its fine to record big chunks of music and listen to that instead. Its painless to record many hours of music once a week, or even less frequently, and that works for days.

Indoors the unit works well with the antenna that comes included. Even with trees in the way it gets a strong signal, even when the antenna is quite far from the window.

Bottom line. In the future, when the technology advances and the bitrate improves, XM radio will be awesome. Currently its good, provided you are prepared to focus on the content and not the sound quality. The Inno is excellent for using when you are biking, running or walking, provided you are in an area with excellent signal and no trees, or you don't mind listening to recorded material.

The Inno was a good buy, and one that I'm thoroughly enjoying using. But, stil a few years off being perfect. I'm guessing I'll be replacing the Inno when something better comes along in a couple of years time.

Oh, since people mention this in other reviews I've turned all the available recording space to XM use, and don't intend using it for storing my mp3s. It would be too annoying ot listen to high bitrate mp3s and then switch back to XM radio quality. Nor do I intend to use it in the car for live radio, I'm sticking to pre-recorded stuff.

I drive a lot on highways so wanted to give satellite radio a try. I once hesitated because installing the external antenna seemed to be troublesome. Additionally, I drove two cars alternatively with my wife but only wanted to have one radio (my wife doesn't like the idea of satellite radio). That means I would need two car kits and do the installation twice.

Anyway, I still wanted to try. I picked up Pioneer Gex-Inno2BK after reading those good reviews at Amazon (the other portable one that I was interested is DelPhi SKYFI3). It turns out to be a big, good surprise: Inno2 does not need the external antenna! Well, I am talking about highways in Midwest, so keep that in mind. It does lose signal occasionally when my vehicle passes under bridges. Actually most bridges are fine, and when the radio lost signal it's just a couple of seconds.

It also works fine in the local roads of Chicago suburban areas where the signal is mostly from terrestrial repeater (with occasional loss of signal). I also used it in a small town in Iowa with no terrestrial repeater. It works better than in Chicago suburban area because the buildings there are much less dense.

The location to mount the radio does matter. I mount the radio on the air vent using a vent mount bought from Wal-Mart. If I put the radio on the passenger's seat, it may lose signal when the vehicle picks up a upslope or downslope. Using a windshield mount gives even better signal, but the vent mount works almost as well -I prefer vent mount for its lower position.

Battery life is decent in the range of about five hours. It's good enough for most of my trips. If needed, $10 chargers for Inno are available on the Internet.

Some other good surprises: I can use it in subway trains of Chicago without using headphone antenna (so far I only used it in part of the blue line and I will update on this). The signal is from terrestrial repeaters. In the Salt Lake City airport, the terrestrial repeaters are so strong that I can walk with the radio without any signal loss. I haven't purchased the headphone antenna yet.

Some cons: The screen is small for vehicle use. I use the largest display fonts and then most song titles will be rotated on the screen. There is a bug (I think so) that only part of song title is displayed when being rotated, for example, "Big Girls Don't Cry" becomes "Big Girls Don't". That's a strange software bug and I wish Inno would have a firmware fix for this. The menus do not rotate -if a menu is long and I want go to the last item, I have to move all the way to there. But those are minor issues.

update on 3/18/08: Now I have four more weeks of experience with Inno2. It still works great and I keep my rating. It works well on Chicago subways. The closer to the city center, the stronger the signal from the terrestrial repeaters. The internal antenna doesn't work well enough when I walk on the streets. Driving on the streets is not a problem, because the driveway is away from the building I believe. It is better to take some recording for walk to subway stations.

As for driving, I found that weather affects the signal (with internal antenna) slightly and in an unpredictable way. On a heavily snowing day the Inno2 got good signal all the trip, and on a cloudy it lost signal more often. Overall it works well -I did some sampling (definitely not scientific way) and concluded that I lost less that 0.5% listening time in that worst day for all kinds of reasons. Installing an external antenna should improve the condition, but to me it's not worth the associated cost, time and risk of vehicle interior damage. (Whenever there is a signal, signal strength doesn't make a difference to sound quality for digital radios.)

I found a caveat in a trip east-bound on I-80 -when I intentionally drove my car on the left lane in parallel with the CENTER part of a 18-wheel truck on the right lane, after a while the signal was lost. The XM satellite signal comes from the south and the truck could block the signal. Nevertheless, for normal passing the Inno didn't lose signal. It seems to have some buffer to tolerate glitches in signal reception.

A final word on XM radio sound quality: It is good but not close to that of iPod. With a scale from 1 to 10, I would give 10 to CD sound quality, 9 to iPod, and 7 to XM radio and the best FM radio stations. XM and FM are different: XM seems to have more clarity and those best FM stations more dynamic range. I still like XM for non-commercial music and for no need to search new FM stations every 50-80 miles.

PS I should have mentioned that the Inno2 is connected to the car audio through an aux port.

  • USB rapid car charger for Sansa Fuze Series, fits all 12V cigarette lighter plug
  • Rapid wall / travel charger for Sansa Fuze Series, Input: AC 100V-240V
  • USB data cable: Sync your data and charge the battery at the same time
  • Compatible with SanDisk Sansa Fuze series MP3 player 2GB / 4GB / 8GB

Total f-in garbage. Not even worth the paltry six bucks it and the shipping will cost you. The USB adapter doesn't fit my Sansa Fuze, despite it being one of the compatible models listed. The AC adapter was broken on arrival because they didn't ship it in a box. The car adapter fell apart when I took it out of its package. I was able to screw the end back on, but the thing is so cheaply constructed I give it a week before its completely unusable.

This works with my SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (Blue). I was so worried because of the bad review, but maybe some people ordered the wrong product?? It works just the way it is supposed to. I was a bit surprised that it is not as cheaply made as I thought it would be and at the speed of charge. So very happy I can power it up in my car & office! -And the extra cord is a lifesaver. AND I can use the wall & car chargers on anything with a USB cable. (That is pretty amazing & has uncluttered all of my cords in my car. I only have to keep two cords and the plug-in piece instead of five cords.) I think I kind of love this thing.

The charger is so poorly made it fell apart after less than two weeks of light usage. I had impulsively bought two (one for the wife, who never used hers), and the second one also fell apart after two weeks of light usage. It's inexpensive, all right, but it's not even worth the tiny amount of money I paid for it.

Basically, it consists of two molded shells that snap together, and plugging the UBS adapter into the socket pushes the two halves apart.

The cord was 18 inches shorter than the original which restricted use of the DVD players.

If we had known this, we would have looked for a longer one. We should have inquired about the length first, but did not think of that. We figured it would be the same as the one we had. It would be helpful if this information was included in the description before sales.

Garmin Nuvi 750 Battery Replacement Kit with Installation Video, Tools, and Extended Life Battery.

Garmin Nuvi 750 Battery Replacement Kit with Installation Video, Tools, and Extended Life Battery. # 010-00583-00My Garmin Nuvi 750's battery would not hold a charge. If you check the Gamin website you'll find they don't sell battery replacements. I guess they expect us to buy new Garmins. I wanted to look at the battery before buying this kit, but was unable to find the right size star-screwdriver. This kit comes with a screwdriver, prying tool, battery, and CD that shows you how to replace the battery. It was easy to replace the battery and now my Garmin's battery can hold a charge. This kit is definately worth the money!

The process to replace my battery was simple and straigh forward. The tools and instructions provided were excellent. My GPS is now functioning like new, perhaps even better.

Buy Garmin Nuvi 750 Battery Replacement Kit with Installation Video, Tools, and Extended Life Battery. Now

Nov. 2, 2011

Received the kit and installed the battery today. This part of my review will be only on the kit and installation of the battery since I have not had time to do a real duration test of it. Therefore, this portion of my review will not cover the life of the battery.

The kit came with two screw drivers: a Philips head and a star head. The screws on my 750 were star-head, so there must be some out there with Philips head ones.

The DVD that came with the kit is adequate and basic but could have covered a few additional issues, hence the four star rating. The first was the difficulty of getting the back off the GPS unit. The kit comes with a plastic pry tool that you use to remove the back after removing the screws; however, the back on mine was a lot more difficult to remove than the one in the video. After about four or five tries, it finally yielded and came off. Removing the actual battery was also a lot more difficult than shown in the DVD because of the double-sided tape holding it in. The DVD demo showed the old battery merely falling out. Some reviewers remarked that there was no mention of double-sided tape being required for the new battery [the piece on the old battery would not come off it] because it would rattle around inside the GPS without it. Since the tape I had would have been very difficult to remove if it prevented the back from being replaced, I decided to try it without the tape first. As it turns out, I didn't need the tape at all; the new battery fit snugly in. Therefore, I recommend trying it without the tape first.

The new battery came about two-thirds already charged, and I re-charged it for about two hours to the four-bar level. I then ran a two-hour simulated trip, and it was back to about two-thirds. At the time of this writing, it has been on for about two hours and forty-five minutes and is down to about half charged.

[To be continued.]

Nov. 7, 2011

I fully charged the battery [overnight] and ran a 4-1/2 hour simulated trip. At the end, there was still some charge left so I left it on. It lasted an additional 20 minutes for a total of 4 hours 50 min.

Apr. 18, 2012

Battery is still working great. No complaints.

I was leaving on vacation when my Nuvi 750 died in the car. I was forced to replace it with a newer model because we were driving about 6000 miles. Since I really missed some of the now discontinued 750's features I ordered this replacement battery kit as soon as I got home. The kit arrived quickly. The tools were simple and the video was easy to understand. I think they could have mentioned how the original battery is stuck in really tightly using double-sided tape. The actual replacement was very easy after the battery was "unstuck". Saddly enough the new battery didn't seem to hold a charge. I was miffed and contacted Innovate88 (via email through Amazon) expecting a hassle but they couldn't have been nicer. They immediately apologized and sent another battery which has been working just fine. There is a chance that I did something wrong with the first replacement, but they didn't even ask, they just sent another one right away. Thanks Bill at Innovate88.

I really liked the fact that everything you need to change the battery is included along with the cd to visually see how to do it. It would be helpful if they would also include some type of double stick tape to hold the battery in place. Being a crafter, this was something I already had on hand. This would be a great benefit for others who purchase this.
