Retractable Rapid Car Charger with IC Chip for T-Mobile HTC G1 Smartphone

Retractable Rapid Car Charger with IC Chip for T-Mobile HTC G1 SmartphoneShort Version:

Bottom line, It's acceptable quality, and not bad for how cheap it is. Just wish it would start charging on the first plug in every time.

Long Version:

This is one of the nicest retractable chargers I've purchased. It suffers from being only of acceptable quality though.

It is loose in the car power adapter port, and requires between 3 and 5 times of plugging it in and out and into the phone and back out to get it to convince the phone its there. An annoyance but once its working it stays working and doesn't usually get knocked loose and stop charging your phone.

Very bright blue LED shows when it is receiving power, retraction mechanism is well above average for these chargers.

I was looking for a economical charger for my phone, so I chose this one. It worked fine for about a week and then it shorted out. Not sure what the problem was. I ended up having to purchase a charger from the cell phone dealer anyway.

I bought this Retractable Rapid Car Charger with IC Chip for T-Mobile HTC G1 Smartphone to charge my G1 in my car. The product itself looks nice and the retractable cord is amazing, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL! When I plugged it into my car, the charger got real hot and started smoking!! I unplugged it to avoid a fire and tried again the next day, ONLY TO FIND THAT IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL!

I guess I could've realized that nothing good could possibly come out of a phone charger with a super thin cord like this one. Most chargers out there have a 10mm 15mm thick cord, while this one has a 2mm thick cord.

My advice to all: Don't waste your money on this. Buy a real charger.

It is very heavy and bulky. Not too convenient for car usage. Only charges my phone about 1/2 the time. Get an error message that it can't charge my phone. Seems to only help maintain my battery at its current level, not charge it up. I got a refund for this.

Double duty is great for when you don't want to buy 2 separate devices. It functions well for both the household plug in and the car. Use the lower outlet to avoid blocking both outlets.

Stanley BC209 Battery Maintainer

Stanley BC209 Battery MaintainerI am using this as a battery maintainer. Seems to work fine. It is a higher quality case and wiring than the Schumacher units I had used in the past. These are a buy again.

This appears to me to be the same BC209 as the more expensive all yellow version. This one is advertised as a maintainer but the directions and box refer to it as a maintainer/charger just like the yellow version. The paperwork is dated 2011 so it is a up to date model. I bought this to maintain my starting battery in my motor home while in storage which is most of the time. The "house" charger in the motor home only maintains the house battery (not the starting battery)so I was going through starting batteries way too fast from lack of use. The charger does exactly what I wanted which is slow charge then maintain the battery level. The included plug adapters are all nice quality. I chose to use the cigarette lighter adapter and it works great. The light indicates when it is charging and when it is charged. The unit runs without making any noise at all. I actually put my ear to the box and could barely hear a slight hum. From 1 inch away you can't hear a thing! Also there is no odor from the unit either. I could not be happier and highly recommend this product. Now when it is time to travel I can just start her up and go!

This charger works as good or better than chargers costing 5 times more. I bought 3 of them to use during the winter. Great value!

For anyone who has a vehicle which doesn't get much use, this is a must.

We have a valued, but seldom used vehicle which we would very often forget to start up and run. Hence, whenever we DID want to use it... dead battery and usually dead enough to need a new battery. It was getting silly and expensive. Finally, one honest battery salesman said, "buy a trickle charger" and we got this one. It is just what the doctor ordered. We still have to turn the engine over occasionally, of course, and keep the "juices" flowing, but no more dead battery and expensive replacements if we forget for a couple of months.

This is just a tiny little thing that has a magnet that attaches itself to the side of the car. You crack the window and feed a cord through to insert in the cigarette lighter slot. Attach an extension cord to the other end, plug it in the wall and it just does it's thing.

Love it!

The Stanley BC 209 Battery Maintainer is one of the worse battery maintainers that I have used/purchased. The charger gets extremely hot, has wide range in charging voltages (13-15V), and for me, stopped working after 6 months. The overall design is basic and feels cheap.

Car Kit for iPod-iPhone3G (6-in-1B)

Car Kit for iPod-iPhone3G
  • Brand new non-OEM.
  • 7-In-1 Features: FM transmitter: All channels, Car charger, Holder with adjustable clip, LED display for FM channels, Support full stereo music
  • Support all FM channels.
  • Power by car cigarette adapter.No battery required.
  • iPod not included. Compatibility: Apple iPod 3rd, 4th, 5th Generation, Mini, Photo, U2, 1st, 2nd, Gen Nano, Video, Classic, Touch

I don't usually write reviews, but I was so pleased with this product that I had to do it. I have owned several FM transmitters (Griffin, Belkin) and always found them to be very annoying with having to change channels constantly. With this one I drove all the way across New York State and never changed the channel once. There was very little hissing and interference. Moreover, the holder is very handy and adjusts to many different sized ipods. I have a Touch, I didn't try it on other kinds. Great product! (Even has a remote, which I will probably lose, but it's still nifty)

Buy Car Kit for iPod-iPhone3G (6-in-1B) Now

Let me begin by saying that FM transmitter should only be bought if you don't have a AUX port or don't want to fiddle around with cassette adapters.

Now with that little bit out of the way, I can say that from my initial tests this mounting Kit and FM Transmitter work beautifully. I have an iPod Classic and the kit comes with adjustable sides, allowing it to fit all iPods. The sound quality is good, and the kit charges the iPod. All-in-all it is definitely worth the money I have only three minor complaints about the kit. (The transmitter is covered below)

1. The Kit shakes a small amount when you drive due to the vibration of the engine (I drive a 2001 CR-V). I drove for around 30 minutes on variety of roads (highway like, rougher roads) and it didn't fall out, nor did the iPod move out of the container, but it is something of note

2. I have an incase leather protector around my iPod, which unfortunately cannot be mounted with the iPod. Not a big deal, as I have a place to put the case while I'm driving, but could be a problem for some who love their cases

3. Depending on the placement of your cigarette lighter the screen can be harder to see. I can still see mine clearly from where I am, but there is no extension cord to move it to a better part of the car. Also, I have the gearshift near my steering wheel. If your gearshift is on the floor, problems could arise when you are putting the car into park. Like most mounting kits, you must prepare a playlist ahead of time. The remote (yes it works) is nice to skip tracks, but unless you are stopped, it is unsafe to change a playlist while you are driving.

All of these complaints I repeat are minor in the end.

Now how is the sound? I live in Northbrook, IL which is 20 minutes out of downtown Chicago; however I get all of the local suburban radio stations as well as the city stations. Despite all of the radio stations I am still able to find frequencies that work for this. Many people don't know how to use FM transmitters which can explain why some get poor reviews. You need not only a clear station, but have at least the station before and after (preferably two if it exists) also open so there is as little competition as possible.

The sound quality is good, you can listen to your music and hear everything fine. If you are someone who stresses top-notch sound, then go buy an AUX kit for your car, b/c that'll give you the best. But if you are just looking for an alternative besides the terrible radio, this kit will get the job done. One thing as of note is that it is difficult while driving to change the frequency on the radio should you encounter static. Another is that your iPod will not automatically pause once the car is turned off. Many complain about the latter, but I don't see this as a big deal, because you should be taking your iPod with you out of your car you can just turn it off then. (Leaving your iPod in a kit is just asking for your windows to be smashed in)

There certainly are some flashier kits and FM Transmitters that will autoscan and some have presets you can use in case you ever have to switch. But for a price tag slightly under 30 bucks, you won't find a better deal.

I was pretty skeptical about purchasing this product at first. I examined many of the IPOD car kits and many of them had terrible reviews. This was the one that had the least complaints, was one of the cheapest...so therefore, I purchased it. I am completely satisfied with this product. It works wonderfully. The music from my IPOD sounds just as if I was playing a CD in my car. You just have to find a radio station that picks up well enough, which for me only took 2 tries. I think its an excellent product and would definitely recommend it to anyone searching for an IPOD car kit...take it from someone that did tons of research, read many reviews, and is price conscientious.

We live in the Phoenix, AZ area and first tried the Kensington Digital FM Transmiter KMW33185. The Kensington had poor reception and would frequently have static and background noise.

Therefore, we decided to try this one from Bargaincell. The reception on this one is far better than the Kensington. The best thing about it is that it comes in with very little static or intereference. However, that is now a sweet memory since it broke after only 45 days of use (conveniently after the 30 day return period). I guess I should've seen this coming since it is made from a hollow sounding cheap plastic and it was less expensive than some of the other devices out there. So I guess you get what you pay for but I did expect it to last more than 45 days. The place it broke was where you plug it into your lighter/dc adapter. We had to take it out each time it was used because it gets so hot inside the car here that the digital fm station readout would've faded/burned. Maybe if one left it in it the dc plug without removing it each time it would last longer...who knows. One other negative is that it is hard to shift without bumping/knocking into it so you really have to put it into drive first then plug it in (this is true for 3 different vehicles we tried).

I was a little skeptical about the first review on this product, which seemed a bit over the top, but after receiving this product and trying it out, I'm going to have to agree: this is THE BEST FM TRANSMITTER FOR IPODS I HAVE EVER OWNED.

I owned one made by Griffin for my iPod nano and it was decent, but there was only one channel (87.9) that worked where I live (15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis) and there was quite a bit of static sometimes. When I received an iPod Touch for my birthday I went to Best Buy and paid $55 for another Griffin product and it was AWFUL. There wasn't a single station that didn't have a lot of static and it just seemed very poorly made.

I then found this online for half the price, and the sound quality is excellent. It honestly sounds as good as a CD on several channels in throughout the city. The packaging concerned me at first, as there are several misprints which made we wonder if as little care went into the product as went into the packaging, but after several days of using this I couldn't be more pleased. My one concern is that the plastic that the holder is made of seems a little cheap and I'm concerned that it might break if I change it from one car to the other too often. At this price, though, you can buy two of them for the price of one terrible Griffin product!

One other minor complaint: the photo here shows that it is black, but the one I received was white. I would have sent it back and requested a black one to go with my Touch, but I really don't care and I've been so pleased with it that it seemed like a pretty minor thing.

BARGAINCELL: If you want to send me the right color, I'd be happy to edit my review to reflect that you did!

CTEK 56-674 Battery Charger

CTEK 56-674 Battery ChargerA long time ago (3 years whoa) I bought a ctek 3amp charger/maintainer and used it for my genset so it would always be ready to go (it's an autostart but does not have a battery maintainer). I was amazed at how well the battery was maintained by the little 3A charger.

EDIT: 12/2012

I've had my 25000 for a couple years now and a few people have emailed me with questions I did not answer previously. I'll summarize them here

1 reliability like a charm. Unlike the 7000 series (7A), the 25000 (25A) series has an internal ducted cooling fan which only comes on during high current charging for long life.

2 featurs it has the desulphation mode like the other chargers, but can handle larger cells. Other than that it does NOT have the ability to select SLA (gel cells), wet cells, or marine cells

3 temperature sensor unlike it's smaller cousins, there are 3 wires at the end of the fixed cable (which does not work with their accessory system as it does not have the required connector) the 3rd wire is a temperature sensor designed to be held close to the battery during charge so that voltages are adjusted for cold or hot weather and battery temperature. This helps protect the battery from overcurrent or overcharge. To sum it up in one word its a very fast charger, and safe at the same time NOTHING like the old crank up the timer based on the voltmeter chargers.

Those where the 3 questions I was asked now everyone knows. BTWI just ordered another one of these as I loaned mine to a friend who uses ctek's smaller units and he was so impressed he gave me the money to buy a new one as he liked mine so much.

back to the original review now

I later bought 2 of their 7002 series chargers these were 7 Amp capacity and had extra features for dealing with a wider range or chemistries like the spiracell optima batteries I use in many applications. I even installed the under $20 dash mount charger interface in a spare din opening in my dash it was a 30 minute job but gave me the convenience of a plug in for my charger without having to pop the hood and clip it on just plug the charger into the dash outlet, and it included a battery guage of blinking leds red for discharged, yellow for discharging, and green for full. They blink all the time and use very little power

Since amazon does not carry the 25000 I became involved in discussions with CTEK and was shipped a unit for evaluation of my battery banks that are paralleled from multiple 12VDC cells. the 25000's closest relative is the 7002 and it features many of the same "stairstep" leds for indication of how the charge is progressing.

At 25A, it is the most powerful CTEK charger to date, equivalent to about 3.5 7002 chargers and priced at about 3.0 7002 chargers, so it's more economical if you have a battery bank. I am very pleased that they kept the battery desulphating features that ctek is known for in the 25000. The extra current is nice to have when you have 4 100AH cells in parallel for a 400 AH battery bank that occasionally needs topping off or desulphating. Ctek has always been at the forefront of chargers and accessories to go with them they are rated for wet environments and mine have been rained on more than once without a failure. If you have multiple batteries such as an RV with 2 deep cycle 12VDC cells and 1 engine starting battery, this is the ideal charger when you find AC. And with 25A, it most likely can power your 12VDC low power devices without draining your battery bank. When I say MOST that excludes the microwave, big screen TV but includes the 12VDC lighting inside the RV and a small TV set. The advantage to you is when you pull into an RV park with AC power you can recharge your deep cycle cells and run the inside lighting off the CTEK 25000 at the same time with 25 amps of supply current.

I borrowed the flir microbolimeter from the lab becuse the unit gets warm, but checking the ctek connectors they stayed relatively cool for running a 25 A current through them. That's impressive in and of itself.

I would highly recommend this to RV users, solar users, or anyone with a battery bank of 12V cells in parallel. Its rated for 50-500 AH storage capacity and represents the top of the line in CTEK power chargers.

Charges fast and is smart enough to extend the life of my batteries. So called automatic chargers don't do the same things this one can do. The auto float is an awesome feature. Other chargers will continue to "cook" your battery.

Buy CTEK 56-674 Battery Charger Now

I've used three other chargers and the "Multi US 25000" is the best! It saved three of my expensive AGM batteries. Sure, I wish it had a digital readout 'cause I like eye-candy but I'm not too lazy to put the volt meter on the battery(s). Nice heavy cables/clamps and soldered too. Temp sensor on the positive clamp. I do wish they had made the battery cable in such a way that I could reach further than 31 inches between the positive and negative battery posts (battery bank). You can charge up to 500 amp hours worth of batteries at a time.

I received this new CTEK US25000 and it worked for 1 day! I contacted the seller and he said he would get back to me, so far not a word in 6 months!

I have used CTEK battery US3300's and never had a problem, as in most first runs probably just working out the bugs, as for the seller, not good customer service.

Thanks, Ron

LuguLake 12000 mAh Multi-function 12V 400Amp Portable Jump Starter with LED Flashlight, Power Bank

LuguLake 12000 mAh Multi-function 12V 400Amp Portable Jump Starter with LED Flashlight, Power Bank / Pack exteral power Battery, 12V Car Battery Charger, Output 5V/12V/19V, WhiteI was provided this power bank for review with the understanding that I will not be reviewing the jump start feature. Taking the battery out of my car or waiting for it to die was impractical, but there were so many other features to test.

I have never owned a power bank with so many functions. It's a power bank for laptops and small devices, a jump starter, and a flashlight all stored neatly in a lovely zippered case with a hand strap. I was impressed with the presentation.

JUMP STARTER

The power bank comes with two jumper cables. The wires are small in diameter compared to any jumper cables I've ever owned, but I'll keep this in my car in case I ever need it.

FLASHLIGHT

Other power banks have one little LED bulb they call a flashlight. This power bank has a real flashlight. It's bright, with multiple modes: always on, strobe, or flashing. Pay attention to the flashing. It doesn't just flash, it flashes SOS.

CHARGING A LAPTOP

This is the only power bank of 12000 mAh or smaller I've ever owned that not only charges small devices like cell phones and tablets, but also laptops.

It comes with eight laptop connectors. We have to just test them out to see which ones fit. I asked for a list from the manufacturer for the compatibilities and was given the following:

1) 4.8*1.7mm Asus/HP/NEC/Delta/Compaq

2) 5.0*3.0mm (with 1.0mm pin) Samsung

3) 5.5*1.7mm Asus

4) 5.5*2.1mm IBM/HP/NEC/Toshiba

5) 5.5*2.5mm Asus/HP/NEC/Delta/Compaq/IBM/Dell/Toshiba

6) 6.0*4.4*1.4mm Fujitsu/Sony/Samsung

7) 7.4*5.0*0.6mm HP/Dell

8) 7.9*5.5*0.9mm IBM/Lenovo

The connectors are labeled with letters in my kit, not numbers. The one labeled "C" fits my husband's Toshiba Satellite. None of them fit my Asus Eee PC.

I was impressed. It charged my husband's power hungry 17 inch laptop from dead to 60%. I didn't expect a full charge from a 12000 mAh power bank. I was happy it could do as much as it did.

CHARGING SMALL DEVICES

The power bank comes with seven connectors for small devices. I was emailed a couple of lists to identify the connectors. Both were different and neither of them appeared to match what I have. Here's the best I could come up with after some internet searching of connector photos and comparison with connectors from my other power banks:

* micro USB

* mini USB

* Nokia DC 2.0

* PSP

* LG

* Sony Ericsson

* Samsung G600

I am very sure of the micro USB and mini USB connectors, but beyond that is just my research and I could be wrong, as I don't own the other devices to test them out on.

I was able to charge my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablets from dead to 83%. I'm a little disapointed with that. My other 12000 mAh power bank could give my Fire HD tablet a full charge with juice left over.

Of course, this power bank can also charge my iPhone 4S, though the connector for that is not supplied.

PROS:

+ multi-function: jump starter, power bank, flashlight

+ charges laptops

+ flashlight has multiple modes including SOS

+ comes with a case

+ comes with 8 laptop connectors and 7 small device connectors, neatly organized

CONS:

charges with AC adapter instead of a USB cord

larger than other 12000 mAh power banks

charging cable fits both input and output ports (easy to make an error)

does not fully charge a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablet

small diameter for jumper cables

OVERALL IMPRESSION

My very first reaction when I opened the box was wow. This is a very good multi-function device. I've never had a power bank that could do so much. It's good to have in the car or on a camping trip or for emergencies.

If all you need just a power bank for charging cell phones on the go, I would go with something smaller, more portable. For a device that does everything, this is a great choice.

This product was provided for review by LuguLake Direct.

I've been playing with this kit for a while and really like it. The battery pack is a powerful one and at 12000 mAh is one of the best I've used. I tried a quick test on my iPad and it powered up in record time. If it can rapidly juice up a power hog, undoubtedly it will work with all your small devices. There are adapters for almost any kind of device. It doesn't have the 30-pin iPad/-iPhone adapter because you don't need it. You simply take off the plug and hitch your USB cable into the side of this unit.

One of the interesting things we accidentally discovered was a safety feature that would be perfect if you are on the road. You hold down the switch for three seconds to turn on the LED light, which is reasonably bright. If you lightly tap it again, you receive a strobe. Another light tap and you get the standard SOS signal. This was instantly recognized by another family member. If you never have to use this battery pack to jump start a car, it's worth carrying with you just in case of emergency. Everything comes in a nice faux leather case that closes with a dual nylon zipper system.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

~ Mobile phone switch cable

~ 8-piece mobile phone connector set

~ Car adaptor

~ Home adapter

Input: 100 240V AC 50/60Hz

Output: 12V DC 1000mA

If you look at the interface you'll see from left to right a 19V 3.5 output port for a laptop, the battery indicator (five blue LED lights), a power switch, a 5V 2A output port for Smartphones, tablets, Kindle Fire, etc. a 12 V 5A output port for batteries, and a 12V 1A input port for self-charging. On the left-hand face there is the bright LED light/emergency signal and the port for the charging cables. The labeling has been silk-screened on and because it's silver, there isn't much contrast. I had to turn it back and forth to be able to read it, otherwise it blends in. My cables had a short in them so I was unable to try them with a car. This would be perfect to keep on hand for small engine batteries and general use. I really like this battery pack, especially because with all the added adapters, it's very useful even if you don't have to charge a car.

Buy LuguLake 12000 mAh Multi-function 12V 400Amp Portable Jump Starter with LED Flashlight, Power Bank Now

By par, this is the biggest battery power pack that I have. It also has the most attachments and accessories being a multi-function charger and car jump starter. It came with a zippered black leatherette case that otganizes everything with straps for each kind of attachments.

It came with 3 LEDs lit (out of 5 for full charge) so I plugged it to the wall with the AC adapter. The AC adapter is multivolt, it works 100V to 240V and 50 Hz to 60Hz, making it compatible with a lot of countries. It can also charge using the included cigarette lighter plug. Besides the 5V, 2Amp USB output that is normally used for tablets and phones, and the jump starter, it also provide a 19V, 3.5Amp output for notebooks and 12V, 2A output for a variety of car accessories.

For smaller charging jobs, it work excellent for my iPads, smartphones and mini speakers. With all the accessories included, what notably missing are the 30-pin Apple connector and the Lightning cable.

To jump start a car battery, it is important to make sure the power pack has enough juice. It should not have less than 3 LEDs in capacity which represents 60% of total full charge. Also you have to disconnect the charger within 30 seconds after starting your car. I have yet to test the full feature of the jump starter though. My battery on the Accord is three years old but not comletely gave up the ghost; so having this in my glove compartment will hopefully prove to be useful in times of emergency.

I have several power packs with LED flashlights, this has the brightest lamp I have seen so far. You turn it on by pressing the power button for two seconds. It will cycle from steady light and two modes of emergency flashing lights fast and slow.

The user manual is short but has done well explaining how to use the charger/jumper. Don't lose it or make a digital copy for future.

I was provided a sample of this product, so I could use it and write my unbiased review.

(#1 REVIEWER)This power pack combines many charging capabilities: mobile devices, laptops, and a car. This unit performed exceptionally well with my mobile devices (details below), jumper cables measured with a volt meter showed 12.24v which is sufficient to start a car, however it did not perform well recharging my laptop as I will detail below.

GENERAL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This power pack is fairly small in size. The power pack itself is 3"x6"x1". It comes with a 7"x10"x1.5" faux leather case, which holds the unit and various cables and connectors that come in the package.
In addition to charging functions, the power pack has a led light. The light is very powerful and bright. It also has several modes: in addition to the steady light, it has a fast blink, and a slow blink. I plan to keep this charger in the car, and the blinking function could be quite useful in emergency situation.
I am attaching a photo collage that I will be referencing in this review, the photos can be located by following 'customer photos' link under the main photo. Photo #1 is a photo of the leather case with all the items included in this package. The package include 7 connectors for mobile devices, 8 adapters for laptop power port, and also includes a wall outlet adaptor, 12V car charger, and jumper cables with battery clamps.
MOBILE DEVICES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The package contains 7 connectors for mobile devices, including mini USB and USB. The other connectors are not labelled and not explicitly listed in the documentation. I have tested this unit with four of our mobile devices (Nexus 7 Tab, Galaxy Nexus Phone, Galaxy 7.7 Tab, and iPad Mini). Mini USB fit my Nexus devices, but none of the included plugs fit iPad Mini or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

I always use the same test to measure the performance of various power banks so I can compare the relative performance of each unit. I charge various mobile devices for 10 minutes and measuring how much each unit was charge in that 10 minute period.

Here are the results of my tests with LuguLake 12000:

✔ Nexus 7 Tab:_____________________3%___ AC source

✔ Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phone:______8%___ AC source

✔ iPad Mini:______________________ 4%___ AC source

✔ Samsung Galaxy 7.7 Tab:_________ 4%___ AC source (with charging cable, discharging with a data cable)

I use Battery App by Elvison to determine how each device recognized the charging source. 'AC' status means the charging is at full charging rate. 'USB' status indicates charging at a lower charging rate. 'Discharging' status means that the charging rate is below the power that the device is consuming so it slows down the discharge rate but does not re-charge.

Photos #4,5,6 show the various devices as I was running the tests.

Prior to this battery pack the best test results I got was from Yubi Power YP840A 8400mAh (Nexus 7 was 7%(port1) and 4%(port2), Nexus phone was 7%(port1) and 8%(port2), Samsung Galaxy 7.7 3%(port1) and 0%(port2). As you see this one is on par or better with the best I have tested.

JUMPER CABLES

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To test the jumper cables, I attached the volt meter to battery clamps. As you can see in photo #2, the reading is 12.24v which is sufficient to jump the car. I now keep this case in my car and will update this review when I will have a chance to use it to restart a dead battery.
To jump the car the power back should be more than half full of charge. There are 5 lights that indicate the charging state of the pack and it should at least 3 light out of 5 on with a steady blue light. The manual recommends recharging the power every three months when it is not in use.
LAPTOP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The package contains 8 adapters for laptop power plug, and one of them fit my IBM laptop.

✔ Laptop:_______charged from 20% to 35% in 30 minutes (external battery pack went from 100% full to empty)

By comparison, Intocircuit Power Castle Series PC26000 power pack, charge the same laptop from 5% to 69% in 1 hour (external battery pack went from 100% full to empty).

When LuguLake 12000 was done charging my laptop, I touched it to unplug from my laptop and had to drop it back on the table. It was extremely hot. If you use the power pack to charge your laptop please be careful how you handle immediately after it finished charging. The unit cooled off in about 10 minutes.

OTHER NOTES

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The labels for outlets on the unit are written in faint grey font, they are hard to see on white background. Input and output ports look very similar, and the labels are very important.
2. The package itself and the manual are aimed at a Chinese market. Some of the writing in the box does not have English translations. The manual has one side in Chinese and the back in English. All but one page of the manual appear to have the same content, but Chinese language has one page that was not translated.
I received this unit for evaluation and testing from manufacture. Based on the tests it performed very well with my the mobile devices, but did not do well with the laptop. I also like the leather case that keeps everything neatly together.
Want LuguLake 12000 mAh Multi-function 12V 400Amp Portable Jump Starter with LED Flashlight, Power Bank Discount?
I was a bit skeptical (to say the least) when I was contacted by LuguLake to test and review this battery charger. I've charged my iPad and cell phone many times using batteries like this, but jump starting a car? Running my computer? After several e-mails concerning what it did (and how it did it), I agreed to accept a complimentary sample to consider for a review.
I don't think there is anything else out on the market today that does all of the things that this little battery (about the half size of a paperback book) does. Here are some of the features that really impressed me:
1) The sheer variety of the tips. You can charge anything, from cell phones to computers just attach one of the tips and hook it up. This will likely be the most used function from my perspective, it states it will run a computer up to 3 hours. Since computers vary in power consumption, I would carry it as a back up, but would test it before I considered how long it would charge my personal computer.
2) It has ALMOST every type of tip to charge mobile phones and devices. Well, except for the iPhone and iPad. If you are planning to use it to charge one of those, you will need to keep this specific cord in this kit.
3) It has connectors to jump start your car. You connect the red clamp to the positive and the black clamp to the negative (I know this is standard, but I wish they had put a small mark on the clamp, I have added a label in case I can't read the instructions if I ever need to use it). Then you plug it into the battery and turn it on, you can then start your car. Once it is started you simply remove the cables.
Will it work? That was the topic of several e-mails back and forth with LuguLake. They actually recommended that I disconnect my battery and use this to start the car to confirm it. In fact, they were very confident that it would work that way, since reviewers in other countries have done the test to prove it works. They actually ASKED me to try it so that I could confirm that it would work. They were confident enough of their product, that it impressed me. However, testing it this way was a bit out of my area of expertise, and I chose not to do so.
Along this same line, you might wonder about the batteries that use the power plug in your car as an alternative. These are actually small trickle chargers that take about 20 minutes to charge your battery enough for it to start on its own. LuguLake has decided to make theirs in a way that will actually jump start the car, so you can get on your way immediately. It is supposed to support three jump starts on your car, but hopefully you will need only one.
4) You can charge the battery either using the included charger for the car OR using your home power. Mine arrived fully charged. You need to "top it off" about once a month to make sure you have power when you need it, or make sure it is charged anytime you have used it. The car charger makes this easy if you are keeping it in your car.
5) It has an emergency light, with two kinds of flashers. In order to turn it on, you hold the power button down for approximately 5 seconds. You can then cycle through the different modes.
6) All of this comes in a nice black case about the size of a large hardcover book.
I have been able to test all of the features except for the jump start feature and actually hope I never need to test it under live conditions, and am happy to be able to recommend it to you based upon my experiences.
EZOPower 2 USB Port Compact External Portable Rechargeable Emergency Backup Battery Charger 5000mah
EZOPower 2 USB Port Compact External Portable Rechargeable Emergency Backup Battery Charger 5000mah - White
  • Universal, convenient, portable, and compact external rechargable back-up battery
  • Compatible with most portable devices (Mobile Phones, Music Players, Portable Gaming Devices, Digital Readers, etc.)
  • Charges via included USB cable + Includes interchangable charging tips such as mini USB, micro USB, and more for your convenience.
  • 2 USB ports for Dual Charging, 5000mAh battery capacity, 5.35V output voltage, 1000mAh output current.
  • Includes 1 year warranty.
Works great for my EVO, and Nook.
I had troubles at first (My Evo showed it was charging but then would run out of power and die). But I realized through trial and error that you have to turn the battery on first (ie the blue light are lit up), otherwise its not really charging, even if it looks like it is.
Buy EZOPower 2 USB Port Compact External Portable Rechargeable Emergency Backup Battery Charger 5000mah Now
The device comes in a white box with no instructions. The first thing you need to know is that you must press and hold the center button for several seconds for the battery to begin charging your devices; same to turn the battery off. This was not obvious; they should have provided some minimal instructions.
Some other minor frustrations:
* The port for charging the device is mini-USB. Micro-USB is the new standard for cell phones and every cell phone charger I have is micro-USB. It would be nice if I could carry around just one cell phone charger and use it for charging my phone and as well as this device.
* The package comes with adapters for every imaginable connector type for use with the two retractable cables they provide, but it only comes with one of each so you have only one micro-USB adapter and every device I own now uses micro-USB. However, you can plug any standard USB cable into the device and just opt to not use the retractable cables they provide..
I'm giving this 4 stars primarily because it's a good value for the price. I'm using it with the HTC EVO 4G and it works well.
I used this battery yesterday to charge my EVO. With the phone on, the flash, and the camcorder recording, it charged my battery from 75% to 98%. It probably would have charged it to 100%, but I unplugged it because I had finished recording.
(The reviewer who said this product did not charge his EVO may want to get it checked out, as I have read that some EVOs have had some charging issues.)
Also, even after charging the night before, and while using it, it only felt very slightly warm, almost completely cold. I have used a similar product from Black & Decker that was bulkier, and it got very hot when charging and during use.
Im my opinion, it is well worth the money, and I will be buying 2 or 3 more soon!
Review after a quick two days of use:
While the raw output voltage may not be strong enough to run some larger devices, I found that it would take my Fuze cell phone on "mifi" mode and stretch its life from the phone battery alone of 1.5 hours to a total of almost 5 hours combined. The $22 spent is well worth it.
My rating is more of a 4.5 based on what you get based on price.
There have been some on here that have complained that their EVO 4G phones continued to drain even though the device was plugged in. I am sure they noticed this especially with power intensive tasks such as Google Navigation.
The reason is not the device itself, but the USB cable. Although the EVO is rated to charge at 1 amp (1000 ma), USB cables are only rated to charge at 500 ma. While plugged into a power source, your EVO continues to run off it's battery. This means that although plugged in, if you battery is charging slower than it is using power, your phone will eventually die. In other words, it's not a "defect" but simply the nature of the beast.
Those who reported their batteries charging fine on their EVO's were likely doing less power intensive tasks such a browsing the web. Google Navigation may be the greatest power vampire on your phone simply because it is 1) constantly scanning for GPS, 2) computing your location, 3) updating the graphical interface, 4) keeping the screen on and 5) talking to you through the audio.
If you find yourself in a low power situation and wish to use Navigation, I recommend that when using Google Navigator, select the "Get Directions" option. No, it won't talk to you, but you won't lose power (and your navigation) half way there either.
HTC T-Mobile Wing/ Herald/ P4350 Cell Phone Car Charger
HTC T-Mobile Wing/ Herald/ P4350 Cell Phone Car ChargerThis product works good and meets all my expectation.
I use this charger for my HTC Touch HD. I got it just before we start my long 3000 miles trip. On the whole trip, it can keep my mobile phone always in full energy, when the mobile phone is running GPS software.
Very Good!
I really love it. I travel so much and having this in my car gives me one less thing to worry about when it comes to my phone. Its efficient, sturdy.. unlike those retractable ones... and its great! I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
HTC Droid Eris Car Charger
HTC Droid Eris Car ChargerThis cord works, but not with the phone it was advertised to work with, which makes the purchase very frustrating, since I bought it to work specifically with the Droid Eris.
This charger has the standard mini usb conector, which will fit loosely, not the connector unique to the ERIS droid that fits snugly. I have had a couple of chargers with this connector and they have worked a couple of times then quit. I hope this one does better. Probably will be the same as the others, but it was cheap enough to give it a try.
BC Accessories Turbo Rectrable Micro USB Car Charger
BC Accessories Turbo Rectrable Micro USB Car ChargerThis product in general is one of the best power cord designs I have used. If you don't like messy tangled up cords, this is the power cord for you. Charges just as well as any other ordinary power cord.
Nice charger , worked well but eventually broke after 1 year when I retracted it. Retraction system snaps USB head against the charger body really hard and eventually the plastic USB head broke.
Griffin PowerDuo Universal Charger for USB-Charging Devices (Black)
Griffin PowerDuo Universal Charger for USB-Charging Devices
  • PowerBlock Dual wall charger works with AC outlets form 100V to 240V.
  • Charge 2 devices at the same time.
  • PowerJolt 12V car charger works in your vehicle's cigarette lighter or 12V accessory socket.
  • Replaceable auto fuse protects from surges.
  • Illuminated ring changes color for charging status at a glance.
Problem: The 3g iPhone drains your battery like no other. If you're on a road trip or if you use the GPS extensively, you're going to need a car charger.
What we were looking for: I've read too many horror stories of third party chargers bricking iPhones. So I wanted something reliable. I looked for items they sold at the apple store here on Amazon, as it is much cheaper here. I figured if Apple was selling them, they must be more reliable than these other cheaper alternatives that have been damaging phones.
Pros:
1. USB! I think this will be the trend for chargers. More and more chargers will be USB cords, so you won't have to get a billion tips for your different devices. You just plug in the USB cord that came with your product in the first place. This is a 5.5 V system, so both my iPhone and my Jawbone work.
2. Fuse: I like that it has a fuse. Its very reassuring after reading how many iPhones have been messed up by third party chargers.
3. Dual USB on the powerblock (AC home wall adapter not cigarettelighter). You can charge 2 usb devices at once. Note that the powerjolt (cigarette lighter adapter) only has 1 usb port. I've read that other car adapters that incorporate 2 usb ports hum annoyingly.
4. Small car adapter unit: barely sticks out.
Cons:
1. The powerblock is a bit bulky. I was planning on taking this with me on trips, but I think I'll take the iPhone charger instead and leave this one at home.
Conclusion: Great car charger for the 3g iPhone, with a fuse for assurance. The powerblock unit has 2 usb devices allowing you to charge 2 usb devices at once. Just use your usb cable, no more annoying car charger adapter tips to deal with.
I bought this for the dual wall adaptor but I incorrectly assumed the DC Car adaptor was dual as well. The car adaptor only charges one item at a time.
Overall, this is a great product, or two products. Unlike most other iPhone/iPod chargers, this requires you to provide your own USB to dock connector cable(s). But, I have several of these that I've accumulated over the years, so it's not a problem for me. Plus, I like that I can power/charge other USB devices, like my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx 2.6-Inch Mapping Handheld GPS (for use in the car) and my Jawbone Bluetooth Headset with NoiseAssassin-Black (Jawbone II). I like how the ring around the car charger glows different colors depending on whether the iPod is charging or fully charged. This is also the first car charger I've seen with a changeable fuse, in case it's necessary. My only complaint is that Griffin could have put two USB ports in the car charger so both units could charge two devices (I have seen some other solutions that include two USB ports, like the Scosche USB12V2 Dual USB Car Charger).
Want Griffin PowerDuo Universal Charger for USB-Charging Devices (Black) Discount?
Griffin makes good products and the PowerDuo Charger is a good product that does what is needed. I have the 12volt plugged into the car and the dual home charger in the house. It sure is nice to be able to plug in an iPod for a charge without all the syncing that comes with charging on the Mac.
This product works for our 2g Touch and 4g Nano. Any iPod that charges over USB should work with this. At a discounted Amazon price and with the reputation of Griffin; I couldn't go wrong. Highly recommended.
I like both items. The car charger is the best. It's tiny and unassuming. The red and green light let's you know easily if the phone is charged or not. The dual charger is cool to charge more than one product. My only gripe is that it pulls out of sockets easily. but that's not a reason not to buy it all. It's small and convenient and cuts down on the bulk of multiple chragers having to be carried.
Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger
Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate ChargerThere are so many sketchy sellers selling phone chargers out there, that it can be a bit scary. The problem is that if the charger is poorly made, the output of the charger can be out of spec and can, in some cases, fry the phone you connect to it.
For that reason, when it comes to phone chargers, you should stick to name brands. (They are all made in China, but the name brand ones are usually subject to stricter QA).
When I found this charger on Amazon, SOLD BY AMAZON, I jumped on it. It's a MICRO USB car charger, made for Motorola and sold under the Motorola name, in retail packaging. The rated output is 4.75-5.25V and 950mA.
This charger should work fine with most any phone that uses the MICRO USB connector. The key number to pay attention to is the second one, the rated amperage. This is the MAXIMUM amount of current that the phone can request from the charger. A typical USB port on a PC provides as little as 100mA, and few provide more than 500mA. So this charger should charge your phone faster than when it's connected to a PC. A few phones out now can use up to 1000mA. But that just means they CAN use that amount. If 950mA is provided, they'll still charge, just a bit more slowly.
Note that the amperage (second number) merely tells you how much the charger CAN supply, if requested. The phone itself is responsible for asking for the current. That is to say, if this charger can provide 950mA, but your phone can only use 300mA--no problem. Your phone asks for 300mA and the charger provides all of what is requested. If, on the other hand, your phone can use 1000mA, this charger will provide all it can, which is 950mA--a wee bit less than the max asked for. That's also not a problem; it just means your phone will charge a little bit (not much in this case) more slowly. The rated voltage for this charger is presented in a range of 4.75-5.25V. The "ideal" voltage for a USB charger of any type if 5V. And most chargers for home use are rated right at 5V. But car chargers work in a noisier environment and thus you have the range. This is where a cheapo charger can really do damage, as some of them are poorly regulated and can provide voltages that are WAY out of spec. Again, when you can get a name brand charger from a seller you can trust (Amazon) for such a reasonable price, it's very foolish to consider the cheapo no-names.
This is an excellent quality name brand travel micro USB charger at a price that beats the no-name junk from third party sellers. What's not to like?
BE SURE TO ORDER IT FROM AMAZON AND NOT ONE OF THE THIRD PARTY SELLERS, as some of those have been known to make mistakes with respect to what they ship relative to the listing. I can confirm that Amazon is shipping the P513 /89143N charger, as pictured.
I use my Droid Incredible as my primary GPS car navigator, so I needed a car charger that could keep up with the power needs of Google Maps with the GPS running. The Belkin USB adapter says it puts out 1A, but my Incredible showed that is was only getting a trickle-charge (500 mA) from it, because the Belkin charger does not implement the latest USB charger standard (short the data pins for a fast charge).
This charger shows up as an AC charger on my Incredible, and it is able to charge my phone even while I am using it for GPS navigation. Recommended for any newer phone that uses a micro-USB connector.
Buy Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger Now
The version of this charger shipped to me is a knock-off. There is no Motorola sticker, the micro-USB connector end is a snap-together part, rather than overmolded like the real version. The PVC cable overmold is mis-shaped, the contact springs are weak and the fit and finish of the plastic parts are low quality. So, it is just a car charger, right? Maybe. But what if the electronics are sub-standard also? What if the PVC overmold is contaminated as well? I am going to return this item and not plug it into Wife's phone.
Read Best Reviews of Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger Here
First things first: IF (and that's IF) you get the genuine OEM Motorola charger listed here, the SPN5400/P513/89143N, it works great with modern smart phones like the Motorola Droid, The Incredible, The Google Nexus One, etc. Basically, if your phone has a micro USB connector (and almost all of the newer generation smart phones do), then this is the charger for you.
That said: Not every seller is selling the right item. There are lots of reports of people getting the wrong charger (I've had this happen myself). Your best bet: Amazon, who not only IS selling the correct charger, but has the best price, when you factor in shipping, provided you qualify for free shipping from Amazon (either with Prime, or if your order is > $25).
The Amazon-as-seller listing for this charger can be found here, at least at the time of this review. Search through the sellers to find Amazon. Their price, if you get free shipping from Amazon, is the cheapest, or close to it. And you are guaranteed of getting the correct item, brand new, retail.
OK, that said, here's the rest of my review:
NOCO Genius GC016 12V Dashmount Battery Indicator
NOCO Genius GC016 12V Dashmount Battery IndicatorI recently bought a NOCO charger and was very impressed with it. I thought that this would be a really good addition.
The fuse holder is so big that there is no way to fish it through your firewall without either drilling a large hole or cutting the fuse holder off.
The led charging indicator doesn't appear to be accurate at all.
The cable that comes on the unit is not nearly as long as it needs to be.
I am very happy with the charger, however I would recommend the quick connector instead of this battery indicator.
Bosch C7 12/24-Volt 6-Mode Battery Charger and Maintainer
Bosch C7 12/24-Volt 6-Mode Battery Charger and MaintainerOkay first of all everything that they advertise this thing does it and does it well. All with a fantastic display to let you know what it's doing. It has safety features involved to prevent those of us who are less automotively inclined from damaging our batteries. It will do a trickle charge and a fast charge and probably make pancakes (just kidding on the pancakes). But do you really need all of this for the price?
I personally don't but I have friends who would really get their money's worth out of this machine. If you have battery issues, or live with someone who can't seem to remember to turn out their lights then this thing will save a lot of time and headaches. If your battery only ever goes dead because it's dead for real then a cheaper charger to get you to a battery store will probably do the trick. Only you know which works in your situation.
I think it's a great product with a lot of great features it's just more than your average person will need.
I only give it 2 stars because I think the price is too high for what you get in comparison to other brands. This charger will do everything they say it will and do it well but please see my followup at the end of this review...it's a major negative!! I have other Bosch equipment and have always been satisfied with their quality. However, why pay over $100 for this when you can buy a "Battery Tender" brand that will do all this for a fraction of that price and is much simpler to operate? The battery clamps do not come attached and the connectors that do come attached are too small to go over the battery posts on most batteries. The Battery Tender (for a lot less money) gives you the choice of clamps or connectors (that are large enough to fit the battery posts) simply by unplugging the ones you don't want and then plugging in what you do want. Yes, this has 6 modes to operate and if you have a need for the other modes such as recharging a severely discharged battery or charging a 24 volt system on your bus then this is probably the one you want. However, if you are just wanting to charge a battery on an occasionally used vehicle and keep it fully charged without fear of overcharging then the other brand will do what you want for a lot less and is smaller and simpler to operate! I also found the instruction manual to be a little weak (at least the English version was).
UPDATE:
I just discovered another MAJOR disadvantage to this charger. I had a power outage today and I discovered that after the power is interrupted this trickle charger does not come back on in the charge mode. In fact, even a minor fluctuation in the power source and this thing goes in to "stand by". You have to be there and press the mode button to start it charging and/or monitoring your battery. This could be a real problem when left on a seldom used battery, such as a car in storage,and just when you thought the battery was being kept at full charge you realize it has not been charging since the last power interruption! The other above mentioned brand does come back on in the charge mode when the power is restored.
This Bosch battery charger is a good one for people who are nervous about electrical chargers, not mechanically inclined or have auto that sits unused for long periods of time, if your willing to pay the steep price.
I've tested and verified the product features for this battery charger/maintainer with good results:
-One touch smart charging with automatic voltage detection for easy operation
* Yes. The charger will detect voltage as soon as you connect the clamps.
-Micro Computer Unit prevents overcharging, overheating, provides reverse polarity protection for user/battery safety
* Yes. As soon as the clamps are connected the battery charger detects whether or not they are connected properly to prevent shorting out any electrical components
-Maintenance/Trickle charging mode automatically switches on when battery is fully charged
* Yes. Great feature if your charging an auto overnight, to prevent overcharging and ruining your battery.
-Regeneration mode to recover a short term deeply discharged battery
* Yes. It took 30 minutes to bring my car (it sits unused but maybe 3 or 4 times a month) to a full charge in regeneration mode.
The display also keeps you informed of the percentage charged, leaving no guess work to the remaining charge capacity. Also the size of this charger is plus, in that it is small, making it very portable and easy to store, compared to a lot of other bulky battery chargers.
It's a nice and handy battery charger overall, with the automation built-in leaving a lot of guess work behind for the user.
Bosch Autoparts has two battery chargers, the C3 and C7. The C3 is for 6V/12V batteries while the C7 is for 12V/24V batteries. Both will work for the usual contemporary 12V car battery. I have several vehicles which see little if any use in the winter, mostly lawn tractors and similar items where batteries tend to die if they're not regularly kept charged. I've used a Battery Tender (a competing product) with very good results. The Battery Tender is not helpful, however, if the battery is already so far gone that maintenance through a trickle charge will not bring it up to spec. That's where the C7 comes in handy. A battery exhausted by being run all the way down (leaving the lights on, for example), can be recharged with the C7. My alternative previously was to use a regular battery charger, then remember to disconnect that after a reasonable period and switch over to the trickle charger to prevent overcharging.
In any case, the Bosch C7 works very well at both maintaining and recharging batteries. The only down side I found is the one noted by another reviewer if the power goes out, the C7 stops charging and awaits further instruction. The Battery Tender, on the other hand, immediately picks up where it left off, without requiring a button to be pushed. This isn't good if you're keeping a car charged in a country home where the power tends to go off intermittently.
The unit works well and has a well designed interface that is intuitive and straightforward.
It is very user friendly, easy to connect and everything is taken care of by this charger and maintainer. It shows exactly where you are in the charging process by a lighted up circle (the further in the process, the more of the circle is lit, and it progressively goes from red to yellow to green).
One thing that I haven't read here is that the cable can be easily disconnected. The part of the cable that attaches to the battery or car charging points can be unplugged from the fuse box that is molded into the charger cable. Another thing: you could permanently mount the charger cable ends to the battery so you can easily once in a while hook it up for a maintenance charge.
I did extensive research in which charger would suit my needs, and this one came on top because of it's rock solid design and, truth to be told, the brand because of its decades of experience in the high end car industry.
I bought this charger for ~$90 right before my car battery was about to die. I guess I was just in time, it is working just the way it should. Almost a 'must have' for when you live in the Midwest (cold winters are hard on batteries).
Yes, I would recommend this product to friends and family.
Retractable Car Charger for Samsung Flight A797
Retractable Car Charger for Samsung Flight A797Decent product retractable cord is a great idea since I leave it in my car. It does charge the phone, but it is a very slow charge. A one hour car ride doesn't fully charge the battery, but it's great for when i forget to plug in at night, I just give it a charge on the way to work and I'm good for the day!
Priced right too!
Clore JNC300XL 'Jump-N-Carry' 900 Peak Amp Ultraportable 12-Volt Jump Starter with Light
Clore JNC300XL 'Jump-N-Carry' 900 Peak Amp Ultraportable 12-Volt Jump Starter with LightWe purchased the JNC300XL about a year ago to power a camera system we were developing for a truck. We needed 12Vdc vehicle power while in the lab and in the field for testing off the vehicle. It charges quickly, holds a charge for months and is light and compact. Last summer my wife called to say she was first in a left turn lane on a busy expressway and her car stalled and would not start. I grabbed to JNC300XL where it had set for months without a charge and off I went. I connected it to her battery and it provided plenty of power to turn over her fair sized V6 engine and start the car. The nice thing is it was a quick hook up. I wasn't in the middle of a busy road trying to get my car close enough to her car to string a couple of jumper cables. It is great for powering gadgets that normally plug into a cigarette lighter for power. You unplug the "flashlight" on the front of the unit to access the cigarette lighter plug. As with all batteries it should be charged every several months to keep the batteries from becoming un-chargeable. Since it is a sealed spill proof lead-acid battery like a car battery it does not have a memory nor will it be damaged by being topped off once in a while. It will die if left discharged for a long period. The manual can be found at
I already had a JNC 660 for my truck and wanted to put smaller units in each of our cars. I bought 3 of these, then 2 more for Christmas gifts. They are easy to use and much more dependable than the cheap imports with lots of whistles and bells.... I prefer the larger unit for my dodge 1500 with a V-8 (I've jumped it 5 or 6 times between charges without a problem... electrical trouble...) This smaller unit is great for our Toyota 4 cylinder cars and Chrysler Concorde with a 3.5 6 cylinder. These beat the heck out of jumper cables, and my daughter and wife don't have to ask strangers for help... or wait for AAA.
Changing my 1-star review to 3-stars. I purchased this unit but it wouldn't start my 1997 Land Rover Discovery V8 -at least not by following the standard directions. I spent over an hour with it over two days trying to start the car but it simply wouldn't turn over. This said, I was able to start the car using jumper cables connected to another vehicle, and AAA was able to start the V8 with a similar but larger portable unit. I finally called Clore Automotive Technical Support at (800) 328-2921. First off, they were super nice. They suggested that the JNC300XL may or may not work with a V8 truck, that a larger unit might be required, especially if the truck battery were completely dead. AAA had been out several days earlier, tested the Land Rover battery, so I knew it was OK, it was just low.
The Clore technician asked how I was connecting the unit. I said I followed the instructions, connecting the red lead to the red battery terminal and connecting the black lead to a non-moving metal engine part. He said, "There's your problem. You should connect both cables directly to the battery. They tell you not to do this in the directions, to avoid sparks, but it's what you need to do." I tried it and the Land Rover started instantly. So, it works and looks like this unit can save me in a pinch. I will keep it in my car from now on. I only wish the instructions included this extra bit of information, or what to do if the car fails to start following the standard instructions. If you have any issues, I'd recommend calling Clore Support.
GREAT PRODUCT! for the price.
I spent 2-3 hours on-line looking for what I needed. A Battery Jumper: 1) not too much money, 2)would help me start my car immediately...This accomplished both needs. This is the cheapest, most reliant item. Ignore the Black&Decker item. I read too many bad reviews.
I used this one 5 times (within 2 months) before I took my car into the shop to correct the REAL problem ---My real problem: I bought a cheap replacement battery.
This item saved me from having my Auto Club telling me, "SORRY, YOU HAVE CALLED US TOO MANY TIMES".
I wish all cars had auto shut-off feature so that it turns off the headlights and all electronics (except for door lock), so that if you forget to turn these off and remove the key, it wouldn't be sucking power off of your car's battery. My Mercedes would turn off the headlights and all electronics but my Honda would not. Having been spoiled by the Mercedes, I often forget to turn off the headlights and interior lights on my Honda, resulting in a dead battery.
Since I bought this jump starter, fortunately I didn't have to use it because I never ran into a situation. But just yesterday, I had someone walk up to me as I was proceeding to get into my car, asking if I had a jumper cable. I told him I had more than just a jumper cable and handed him this jump starter. Five minutes later, the guy came back very happy and told me that it worked on the first attempt.
Even though I had charged it almost 3 months ago, it worked on the first attempt which is reassuring. I didn't want to write a review of this product until I had tested it and now I am doing it because I do think this is a great product and can save you a lot of hassle. Please make sure to take it out to fully charge it every 3-4 months so you don't end up with a dead battery AND a dead starter.
***Update 09/04/2011***
Just to give you update, I have been using this product for more than a year now. I only had to charge it once. Its internal battery is just amazing if you're only using this for a quick jump-start every once in a while. I have used it at least more than a dozen times and it has always worked flawlessly. I last charged it several months ago and it still shows that the internal battery has enough juice to go on (two green LEDs).
Even after using it for more than a year, I am still raving about it. This purchase was well worth it and it has saved me a lot of time since I bought it.
