HQRP Solar Charging KIT: 50W 12V Monocrystalline Solar Panel in Solid Aluminium Frame plus 10A Sola

The kit should have come with instructions to assemble the pieces together.
The MC4 cables ARE NOT INCLUDED! Out of the box, this kit is USELESS! I had to order the cables separately with no clue of which type of cable to buy. I took a big guess based on Amazon pictures.
Overall, the products are quality, but do your research and buy the parts individually.

AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black)

- Note: Please consult your product's user guide to determine compatibility with your device.
When I hooked my phone into this charger it went into USB charge mode (500 mA) even though the charger is rated at 2.1 Amps (it is 2 Amps max shared between the two ports but I have not checked to see if that means 1 Amp per port, or if only one port is connected that single port can use the full 2 Amps). The way that your phone determines which mode to enter depends on if the data pins of the USB port are shorted together or not; if they are shorted (the data pins are the center pins of the 4 pin USB connector) it will enter AC mode, otherwise it thinks it is a computer port and will enter USB mode. On this charger the pins are not shorted. I have found this to be the case with the overwhelming majority of chargers I have experimented with. They are rated for 1 Amp or more but consistently put my phone into USB mode. I assume this is because you can buy regular USB connectors in bulk much more cheaply than you can buy a properly wired AC charging USB connector. So the ability to put out more than 500 mA is there, your phone just will never ask for more.
It is easy enough to fix the charger so that it will enter AC mode if you know how to solder. You just unscrew the power end of the charger where the fuse is, then use a flat head screw driver to pop the casing open down the seam. Once you do this you are left with the circuit board that the USB connectors are attached to. Solder the center pins together on each USB port (it's a somewhat tight fit soldering the port on the side where the LED is connected but completely doable) and then just pop it all back together. If you are careful in taking it apart you won't damage the casing at all. After doing this my phone and all other device I have tried report that they are in AC mode.
I have tried charging an iPad with this charger (both by itself and with another device connected) and in both cases it reports that it is "Not Charging". This leads me to believe that it is a max of 1 Amp on each port (the iPad needs 2.1 Amps, at least when the screen is on). If you put the iPad to sleep it charges fine, with or without another device connected on the other port. And again, when an iPad or iPhone says that it is not charging, it is still "charging" just not fast enough to meet the needs of the device so the battery will still get drained.
I hope this helps anyone who has had problems with the charger or is considering buying it. I think it works perfectly fine (then again I was irritated with it until I modded it). It is really difficult to tell if one of these chargers is wired for AC mode until you get your hands on it and try it out. And if you have a device that doesn't check the data pins and kick itself into USB mode you should get the full current of the charger without modding it. It is technically the phone that is limiting the current being delivered not the charger.
Update:
Wow, they raised the price on this charger to $20. It was $10 when I got it. I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Buy a mini or a micro charger that sits flush with your dash (or close to it). This charger is pretty big. Or get a charger that can do a dedicated 2 Amps on one of the ports. I'd say it is worth it for $10 but not much more.

I've been using a now unavailable Kensington PowerBolt as my car charger, mainly for my iPhone 4, but occasionally to reanimate my iPad 2. A single USB socket is fine for commuting, but on long car trips when my car is filled with children and gadgets, a double socket makes for a lot less futzing.I tested this by charging my iPhone 4 while in use, while simultaneously charging a Kindle Fire and it seems to work fine. On my 40 minute commute, I can add about 20% to the charge status of the Kindle while topping of the iPhone, all without any overheating or fuses popping. A couple years ago, I went through many chargers trying to find one that could reliably power an active iPhone, so I'm glad that cool running chargers have become so inexpensive even while powering two devices.
Devices I've tested and found to work:
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPod Touch 3rd Generation
Kindle Fire
Kodak Playful pocket video camera
Sony Bloggie Touch camera (Needs a USB extension cable or it blocks the other charging port.)
Remington hair clipper
Jabra Extreme Bluetooth headset
Devices I've tested which didn't work:
HP Touchpad
Materials are pretty cheap looking, and the device is much, much larger than the PowerBolt; this makes it easier to insert and remove but I'd have been happier with something compact as the large size makes it easy to knock it out of kilter and stop charging which you might not notice while concentrating on driving. This can be really annoying. So not a perfect charger by any means, but a useful budget model.

I have been using it since last two weeks now. This is simply awesome product.I have used "Griffin Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro" before and AmazonBasic is much better than Griffin for following reason
1) Design: Griffin is so small that it gets stuck in the car charger. Amazon basic is perfect size .. neither too small nor too big (it looks huge in pics but actually is small)
2) Charging time: This is why you buy a car charger ... Amazonbasic is 2.1 amp vs griffin which is 1 amp... Amazonbasic charger charges phone twice as fast griffin. I use iphone 4 and it gets fully charged (from 10% battery) while i m listening to music in an hr
3) Quality: Griffin use to get very hot (and even my phone use to get hot) after 1 hr of charging ... amazon car charger is of much better quality ... I have used it all day and neither charger nor phones get hot
Overall I would highly recommend this product if u have a iphone (or any smart phone). Whether you are charging one device or two devices simultaneously it charges faster than any other product in market
UPDATE: Aug 28: Its been 10 months and this product is awesome... Actually I have noticed that my iPhone changes faster in car compared to even wall socket.
Want AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black) Discount?
I am trying to get a 2.1 Amp (or atleast 1 Amp) car charger for my HTC Vivid and HP Touchpad (CM7). These devices consume lot of battery when using gps in car. I had lot of hope on the amazon basics car charger. However, both my devices get only 500 mA from these chargers (which is not sufficient for GPS usage). The devices recognize the chargers as USB port and hence only 500 mA. I have performed amperage analysis on both Vivid and Touchpad using currentwidget for android. See customer images.01/02/2011 Update:
Well, few people have suggested me about "data pin shorting protocol" for phone to differentiate between real usb port and charger's usb port. I would like to question the rationale behind ME doing it instead of AMAZON (or whoever the manufacturer really is). My wall chargers already have these data pins shorted. They charge every device I throw at them including iPhone. So why can't amazon manufacture them with data pins shorted initially.
Also I would not recommend end user meddling with power electronics. I value my phone and tablet more than a $10 (now $20!!) car charger. No thanks. Its simply not worth the hassle when its time to claim warranty.A few other reviews are correct, this unit does ** NOT ** provide anywhere near two amps of charging current.
When charging an Android phone (HTC Rezound) the phone indicates the charging source is USB because of the low current (probably ~ 500 mA). If the charger was providing anything over one amp, the phone would indicate the charging source is AC.
The charger stays completely cool which also indicates it is not providing any amount of current flow or regulation.
One star for deceptive product description.

I own two of these chargers, one of which I use for travel, the second of which I purchased for my wife. Really like this charger, it is compact, fits easily in a suitcase or computer bag (the prongs fold flat), and it has four USB sockets. I've used it to charge an android phone, IPod, a Garmin unit, and another phone while on the road with no problems.Only disadvantage, if it stood vertically, it wouldn't hog wall/socket space. But that's the design, and it saves me from carrying lots of other chargers, so it's a decent tradeoff.

It worth every penny.
I like this product and I recommended for every one.

I bought this charger for my Ipod Nano (3rd generation). I plugged it right in to charge and (so far) everything looks great!Maybe I got a dud, but this charger has an odd habit of cycling between charging and not charging my iPhone, with no consistency. It will show the charging icon for about 2 minutes, then switch back to the regular icon like it's not plugged in. At first I thought it might be the car, but I have tested it in a VW Jetta, Mazda 3, Honda Fit, and Toyota Prius. The best case I had was in the Jetta, where it did not do the on/off cycling, but after driving for an hour and a half, my battery was almost totally run down even though it was plugged in the entire time.Because it does not constantly charge, my battery will never actually die while plugged in, but after a long drive I'll have a 20-25% charge. I suspect this kind of on/off charging is not doing wonders for the health of my battery. I guess you get what you pay for lesson learned! I just placed an order for a name-brand charger that listed on the Apple store website.

DEWALT Bare-Tool DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery)

It's about 1.5 times the size and weight of my 1/4" hex drive impact tool but seems to have 4x the power. This obviously isn't going to out drive an air powered impact wrench but has more than enough power to handle lug nuts.
The only time this tool failed to impress me was removing large diameter stainless steel fasteners with seriously galled threads (an antenna mount that had been on our office roof for 10+ years.) The DC820B could break the seized 3/8 bolts but didn't have the power to break the 1/2" bolts. It tried and tried but couldn't quite get the job done. I could feel a slight flexing of the tool in my grip that probably robbed torque from the job at hand. To be fair, I had removed more than 50 bolts before attempting to free the seized bolts and didn't take the time to replace the battery so this isn't conclusive, your results may be better.
The only real design complaint I have about this tool is the socket retention mechanism. Instead of the spring loaded ball or hog ring systems used on most 1/2 air impact tools this one has a spring loaded "detent pin retention system". On my tool this requires using a small screwdriver or similar tool to push in the retention pin every time you want to change a socket. It was a hassle at first but now I just leave a short impact extension on the tool and change sockets on the extension.
I mention this since when looking at the parts diagram it appears that Dewalt has different models that use the hog ring system. One of those might be a better choice if you change sockets frequently.
Like one or two other reviewers mine emits a slight burning smell that seems to have gotten less noticeable the longer I use the tool. I have some other Dewalt tools that had the same problem but none have died (so far at least)
Buy DEWALT Bare-Tool DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery) Now
This tool is small and light but has plenty of power for any 1/2" socket you would be likely to use. It works best with the lithium battery but the nicad works just fine although noticeably heavier. After using this tool hard for several days I'm not sure 5 stars is enough. The work performed per pound would have been unimaginable a few years back.A friend of mine has one of these and I had to have one. Wow! My favorite cordless DeWalt, no doubt! First use was to remove the blades from my riding mower....Zip! No holding the blades, off and back on again, so easy! Plenty of power! So, be careful! This thing has enough torgue to snap bolts! I am extremely happy and satisfied with this purchase!I have bought 2 of these in the last month. They have great power for 18v. I have a small farm mechanics shop where these are used daily.Tuesday, February 25, 2014

- Package includes: PGMPP6000 White External Battery / 4 connectors for most phones / 2 USB power wires (27inches and 7inches) / 1 user manual
I am attaching a collage of 2 photos labeled with number 1 & 2 under customer photos that I will be referencing in this review.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the package is that brick looks slick and well made. Its dimensions are 4.15" length x 1.83" width x 0.88" thickness. A photo of the unit is included in both photos I posted.
The box contained two USB cords 7" and 27" and adapters to fit different devices (Nokia 2mm round, Playstation Portable 4mm round, mini USB, two micro USB). Photo #1 shows the entire content including all adapters. The adapters are a weak point of the design, they feel a bit flimsy and it is easy to loose all the small pieces. The minimum configuration for my devices is two connectors: one that goes into the AC plug to charge the external battery and the second (mini USB) that goes into the devices for charging.
A big button on top of the unit turns the unit on and off (hold it for a few second to turn off). The blue lights on the sides of the button indicate the level of power in the battery: 4 lights indicate full charge, 3 lights indicate 75% and so forth. The power pack also has an LED light, which generates a pretty good bright light and can be used a flashlight.
The 6000mAh PowerGen has one USB outlet. I tested my four electronic devices using both my own USB cable as well as the manufacture cable+adapter. In the documentation booklet PowerGen states that PowerGen cables provide better performance for non-Apple devices on the 2Amp (Apple port) and I wanted to see the difference between the cables.
The provided adapters fit Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone, Nexus 7 tablet and Sansa Clip MP3 (as they take regular USB-to-micro USB cable) but none of the provided adapters fit Galaxy Samsung 7.7 Tablet.
I used Battery App by Elvison to determine how each device recognized the charging source. 'AC' status means the charging is at full charging rate. 'USB' status indicates charging at a lower charging rate. 'Discharging' status means that the charging rate is below the power that the device is consuming so it slows down the discharge rate but does not re-charge.
The key findings:
================
(1) The power pack worked well with Nexus devices, but did not work at all with Samsung Galaxy 7.7 tablet. The documentation states that it does not work unless you have a tablet USB adapter. But even with this adapter the Battery App showed that the tablet was 'discharging'.
(2) Using PowerGen cables vs generic cables made a postive difference for the phone but not for the tablet (note that I used a generic charging cable, not a data cable)
Difference between a power cable and a data cable:
Charging cables short the two data connections together (rendering them useless for data transfer), but this fools devices to see them as an AC power connection, and thus accept the higher current of the charging source. Both my generic cable and PowerGen cables used in my tests are charging cables.
Description of my tests:
I tested each devices charging them for 10 minutes using PowerGen cable and using my own charging cable.
The table below summarizes my findings.
Nexus 7 Tablet (photo #1)
-----------------------------------
generic cable .... AC source .... 1% charge in 10 minutes
Powergen cable ... AC source .... 1% charge in 10 minutes
Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phone (photo #2)
-----------------------------------
generic cable .... AC source .... 3% charge in 10 minutes
Powergen cable ... AC source .... 4% charge in 10 minutes
Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.7
-----------------------------------
generic cable .... discharging
PowerGen cable -no adapter, cannot be used
SanDisk Sansa Clip+ MP3 Player
-----------------------------------
generic cable ...... works
PowerGen cable ..... works
The MP3 player recognized the charger on both outlet, however it behaved differently than charging from the charger it came with.
When I charge Sansa MP3 with a standard AC charger, the MP3 player goes into charging mode, displaying the charging animated icon. When it was plugged into the PowerGen external battery it continued to play the content. I listen to books on my MP3 player so this caused me to move forward in my book and I had to manually reset my position by a few chapters to get back to where I was when I started charging. The positive side of this, is that is possible to continue listening while MP3 is recharging. This is very handy for Sansa MP3 player since it has built-in battery that cannot be swapped for a charged one. I used to have to stop listening to have it recharged and now I can continue to listen while it re-charges. I was very happy to have this feature during hurricane Sandy when I lost power and my books on MP3 player were my only source of entertainment.
To summarize:
I liked:
-----------------------------------
1. Good behavior with Nexus devices.
2. Solution for MP3 player with built-in battery
3. Looks sleek, feels solid, is compact
I did not like:
-----------------------------------
1. Does not work for Galaxy Tablet 7.7 (with my own adapter, no PowerGen adapter)
2. The multiple piece connectors are flimsy and easy to loose. I prefer a one piece charging cable I bought as a replacement.
3. Labels and documentation are hard to read: 2A and 0.6A labels are white on white and are hard to read.
I received 6000mAh external battery pack for testing from the manufacturer to write an honest and unbiased review and you will find both pluses and minuses of my experience in this review.
Overall, I am pleased with this unit and recommend it for the devices I tested with the exception of Galaxy Tablet.
Ali Julia review
I purchased this unit because I needed a back up charger for my Samsung Galaxy S2 smart phone. I happen to browse the internet a lot using 4G and my phone dies rather quickly. I opted for this unit because of the solid reviews and also because it has imbedded micro USB cable in the instance that I forget my USB cable at home. Also it has the capability to charge other devices as well.
The imbedded cable feels a little flimsy, so I would only use this in emergencies if I forget my short USB at home. It's still nice to have though as a backup. The unit comes with a bunch of adapters -Micro USB, Mini USB, iPhone/iPad/iPod/iTouch, and other size adapters. I'm not too sure why it has a flash light built in, but it's there if you ever need it.
As for the charging, it charges my phone from about 5% to 100% at least 2 times. It could possibly charge more, but I never had to since 2 charges are good enough for me. It charges the phone fairly quick.
This unit is in line with other external battery packs out there, but so far this unit has been very solid and the price is just right. With the imbedded micro USB cord (used if I forget my USB cord) and other positive reviews, this unit is a solid choice.I have a droid smartphone that loses power rapidly. This PowerGen keeps its own charge a long time, and provides an easy way to keep my smart phone charged..
USB battery packs keep your power-crazed smartphone or tablet satisfied while on the go. Super handy. Many brands to choose from. Prices are bouncy and coming down.
About this PowerGen 6000 mAh model -
It charged my iPhone 4S 2.45 times. Larger smartphone batteries will get fewer charges. Tablet users should get something larger.
The imbedded Micro-USB cable is a big plus. Save space. No tangle, mess, or leaving behind. I use it with my iPhone, thanks to a Lenmar Micro-USB-to-Apple-30-pin Converter Tip (see Note 1).
PROs:
* Imbedded cable eliminates multiple hassles
Generous capacity for smartphones (see Note 2)
Fit and finish: Impressive. Looks and feels like quality.
Size and shape: Very nice to hold, very pocket-able
Plastics: Seems like quality unbreakable plastics
Power-in: Standard Micro-USB connector (see Note 3)
Other PowerGen products have been highly rated
OKs:
12 month warranty (Anker has 18 months; New Trent has 6-10 months)
High gloss finish attractive, but subject to fingerprints, scuff marks and sliding around
Comes with a 7-piece interconnect system for most devices (see Note 4).
Energy efficient. Does not seem to heat up at all.
CONs:
None yet
Alternatives -
PowerGen 9000 mAh (imbedded cable)
Anker 5600 mAh (18 month warranty)
PowerGen 5200 mAh
Anker 3200 mAh (imbedded cable, 18 month warranty)
Many others...poke around

You can save money by waiting for dips. Low tide is around 30. There's an "Online Price Alert" that will email you whenever this or any amazon product dips below your target price. Google it. It's nicely done. Or try camelcamelcamel, which also shows price history.
Disclosure -
The manufacturer gave me this product for review. I believe my review is impartial.
Notes -
Note 1: This tiny $5 adapter works with the imbedded cable to get my iPhone charged at full speed (same as Apple wall charger).
Note 2: 2.45 full charges of my iPhone 4S (1432 mAh battery). A Samsung Galaxy S3, for example, has a 47% larger battery so it'll get about 1.67 charges. All the USB battery pack makers do a little funhouse mirror trick when reporting mAh (milliamp hours) capacity. The "6000 mAh" is battery output @ 3.7 volts. The stepped-up 5 volt USB output is at most 75% of that (4500 mAh).
Note 3: Micro-USB power-in connector The most common connector type. Share cords. Use cords of any length. Some other brands have a round power-in jack with a dedicated AC adapter -more stuff to bring...or forget.
Note 4: 7-piece interconnect system includes USB-mini, two USB-micro, 2mm round (Nokia), and 4mm round (PlayStation Portable). Plus special 7" and 27" cables. (Contrary to description and box/user guide info, mine also had an Apple 30-pin connector.) The cables and connectors are of reasonable quality. I prefer using regular cables (no chance of losing small pieces) or the imbedded cable. But the PowerGen connectors supposedly optimize charging speed of non-Apple devices (data pins are connected).
~~~ Comments & questions welcome ~~~It charges my iPhone 4s at most thrice with its full charge. It functions the way it's supposed to.
However, the flashlight functionality may be an inconvenience at times when the button is pressed in your bag. A lock switch/button is needed so it can be controlled. Also, sometimes the phone indicates it's fully charged but the percentage is not 100% so I would have to disconnect and reconnect the cable so it'll continue charging.
in when not in use.The original charger failed & this one was cheap. Nothing to say but it charges the phone & I'd recommend itCharge worked well, price was much cheaper online that I could find it in any store. Works well and good replacement for the original which stopped working.I have an older phone that I only use for emergencies but lost the charger. I guess I don't spend enough time driving to charge the phone with the car charger. Verizon no longer carries this charger, so I would have had to buy a new phone and charger. Not wanting to spend the $ for a phone I seldom use. This charger was less than $6.00, and works perfectly. Saved lots of $$-gotta love that!
