Overall a good buy for the money. They could do better with the quality control. I anticipate it will hold up well overall, however and it has a 25 year output warranty. The "weatherproof" box doesn't seem to be completely weatherproof to me. But that's my opinion, so I can't say for sure whether it is or isn't weatherproof. Buy waterproof sealant, which is up to you, DC rated cables and crimp-able (sp? ) connectors and a crimping tool if you don't have them. There are two holes with rubber plugs for the wires. You'll have to punch a hole through each of the rubber plugs. This panel doesn't supply enough watts to keep my 68AH agm vehicle SLI battery fully charged, which has an mppt solar charger, when it's sitting on the dashboard under the front window, but it sucks up ~1.2 amps when it's outside in direct sunlight. Edit: The solar panel has enough juice to float my battery after two or more sunny days in NY.I am disabled and do not drive alot so at times my car{Ford crown-vic police interceptor} is a slow crank or once in a while not at all. I installed this on my rear deck and it does just enough to keep my battery topped off and give me a fast crank all the time. I live in solar zone 5 mid atlantic with ave. 4.2 hours of sun. Although for its output I don't need to, I am running it thru a control unit. I am very pleased with my results. It has a sturdy aluminum frame and about 3" x 4" black plastic junction box for easy connection with pre-drilled holes and can easily be daisy chained. All cells are clean with no breaks.I bought it last week and I used it today for about 3 hours around noon in full sun, Houston Texas. Short circuit current is about 1.10-1.2A in peak, it was good. I charged my SLA battery 12V 7.2Ah for a while and found there are more than 10 spots changing color on the cells. Also some cells started changing its color. Back side is still looking Ok though, It's tyipical connection defect in production line I guess. I felt it's not safe to use without anyone attending, so I am preparing to return.
Solid type solar panel is quite reliable for the structure compaired to folding type, so I liked it first, but this time, my unit isn't so nice. If it didn't have such heat spot problem, I would have liked it very much. I want replacement and want to try good unit.Great product does exactly what I need It to do. I use this and a sunshield to keep my tractor battery charged during the cold months so I do not have to jump it or charge it prior to the times I need to use it.
