Got here very quickly and seemed to work just fine, but it doesn't seem to work that good after just one use.

Got it a few days ago, says it's charging the phone, but doesn't really charge. In most cases, even when plugged in to this charger, the phone dies if the battery is too low.

this is a great all around unit

i had to upgrade after my stock headunit took a dump and couldn't be happier with my choice

the earlier complaints about this deck have now been solved and all you have to do is visit kenwoods website to get the latest updates installed (Real easy) and if your using a rear sub via the sub out connection you will have to contact kennwoods customer support # to get them to walk you thur the process.

btw calling and getting a kenwood tech is REAL easy and they are more then happy to help you. i called 3 times about different questions and got the answers every time, with little to no waiting on hold. (thank you kenwood)

the deck is fully upgradeable down the road so if you decide to add navi, satellite radio, bluetooth or hd radio ect. your covered no problem.

if your wanting to use your ipod or iphone with the new update and the use of KENWOODs KCA-IP301V cable you will be able to control your ipod thru the deck seamlessly

i am currently able to control my iphone 3g with no problems. (Video music podcasts .ect)

so if your looking for the basics with the option to upgrade you'd be goofy not to seriously consider the DDX-512

Purchased as a replacement for factory DD radio, great head unitIt can be upgraded to all the stuff you exactly want. It plays DVDs, no issues viewing, great sound quality with the Alpine components, Have the navigation love it to just wish you could here the radio but I guess if you need directions your focuse should be there not the music, Radio is as weak as the factory radio so no change there but good news you can always upgrade to sat. or HD radioso for the price its a great head unit with even greater potential with all the upgrades you could ever want.

Easy installtook about 15 minutes, the nav unit took longer due to running/ hiding the wires, but all turned out seemless.

This is a good item for the price. it plays DVD's, CD's, musis and TV shows that are on your iPod. Once you get it hooked up it works great. My reason for only giving it 3 stars is the lack of information available regarding extra equipment to make it work properly. This information is not available on Kenwoods web site or Amazons product description or any other web sit I searched.

1. You will most likely need an antana adaptor. Depenting on what type of vehicle you have this could be as much as $50.00. Luckily for my GMC Sierra it was only $10.00.

2. In order to hook up your iPod you need another adaptor cable which was about $40.00. Additionally, this will not work on all iPods. I have an iPod touch which works great with this stereo. I also have an origional iPod classic that does not work even with the upgrades available on apple's web site. I took my older iPod to a local stereo store to seek help and they told me that it is simply "too old to work with this stereo". The product description for this stereo says it works with all iPods version 1.2 or newer and I have found this to be false.

3. Mounting HardwareUnless you are replacing an existing aftermarket double din deck you will also need a dash kit. The installation hardware that comes with the unit is useless for a GMC sierra. Add another $20.00.

4. This deck does not come with a remote control. This is not deceptive as the product description does not state that there is a remote included. However some movies will not play without the comand from a remote. Another $30.00.

5. If you want to maintain your door chimes and factory computer functions of your particular vehicle, you need an additional unit that plugs inline with your factory wiring harness before pluging into the deck. For a GMC Sierra this was another $189.00. You don't NEED this to make the deck work but again, not mentioned in the product description, anywhere.

Enough bashing on this unit as it does have a couple of unexpected useful features.

1. It clearly states in the instruction manual that you cannot play video from your iPod on this unit. That is not true. I watch movies, TV shows and any other type of video from my iPod touch without any problem.

2. The installation manual wants you to install this unit so that it won't play video while you are driving. This can be easily over riden by grounding the wire on that back of the deck that they want you to connect to your park brake.

Hope this is helpful because none of this information was available to me before I purchased this unit. But now that I have it hooked up, and over $250.00 additional dollars later I love this unit!!!

I just purchased this unit upgrading from my old kenwood head unit. I found out the hard way that there is some serious issues with this unit.

1. The unit is "Satellite XM/Sirius" Ready, but Kenwood has not released the cables needed to connected the unit to the Sirius unit. So basically if you buy this unit to listen to Satellite radio, you are out of luck until Kenwood releases the proper cable. I called Kenwood Usa support about this and they can't give a reason why the cables are not available, but said they should be available by April 2008. In the meantime I can't listen to my Sirius.

2. The unit claims to be able to play MP3, JPEG photos, and MPEG videos from a USB device (ext USB hard drive or thumb drive). I bought a external USB hard drive and it was able to play MP3s from it but no JPEG and no videos. I emailed Kenwood USA about this and they responded with this:

"The DNX-5120 and DDX-512 are currently unable to play MPEGs or JPEGs via USB. We are aware of this issue and currently working on a fix to solve the problem. When the fix is available, we will contact and email you the update."

So now I can't play my Satellite radio or play JPEG and Mpeg videos from my USB device! But there is more:

This is supposed to also have bluetooth with the optional BT-200 bluetooth unit. I called Kenwood and the Bluetooth add on will not be available until May 2008 according to Kenwood USA.

So I can't use my Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, or JPEG, MPEG files!

So basically if you are going to buy this unit, wait until May when they are supposedly going to have everything available. I am not a happy customer!

I do a whole lot of camping and hiking where I am away from power sources for prolonged periods of time but I like to keep my cell phone and a few other electronic devices with me just in case of emergency. Because of this, I have purchased solar chargers in the past and none of them worked as well as advertised...and sometimes not at all. Even though this charger might seem more expensive, its the only one that I have purchased that ACTUALLY worked. I have my doubts that the product I received was actually OEM as it seems rather cheaply made and there was no hologram sticker on it like my moto wall charger, but the thing works so I have no complaints.

Ok so it isnt the cheapest pannel of this type and size that you can get, you already know that.

so what is different about it? how well does it work?

Unlike some other epoxy covered PCB mounted solar cell items this one is much lighter, it is not a thick coat epoxy style.

this makes it much better for portability.

when weight is important this mid sized multicell pannel was a good choice.

and if your worried about it getting scratched, you can put a very thin piece of vinyl on top (often sold at the wallymart for a few bucks for a whole yard) that will cut output about 5-8% and makes it impervious.

the one i got speced out correctally, the array in there doesnt waste a lot of space , like some arrays with too much gap between cell items.

I put this one on top of a GPS device with an acrylic hinge, and connected a diode and a protection curcuit to use it to charge a oversized battery in the unit. it now forms 3 functions.

1) charges the unit. if it sits inside on the window sil and catches a bit of light, the unit is now self sustaining for minor use. If i put it outside it could fully charge the FAT oversized 5amp li-poly cell in 2 days of brutal california sun. If i go walking with it in the sun, it runs the gps unit non-stop forever :-)

the hinge allows it to be aimed into the sun, and to shade the battery/unit.

2) caps the screen, via the hinge when i close the unit up it is now the top cap covering the screen. not the most durable cover i could put over the screen , but the most funtional one :-)

3) Is a Sun hood , or shade, so when gpsing in the sun it keeps the unit charged and the sun off the unit at the same time.

connections on these were at the "ends" of course to get power off the cell items, and the back of the PCB there is foil traces bringing the power to the Center of the pannel for a good location for connection.

probably be good for solar charger , and solar car projects and lots of other stuff you can think of.

lightweight, still good quality glass cell items, assembled at the voltage as speced.

that about covers it. It did not dissapoint.

I have had this Kensington FM transmitter for about 2 months and in my hands it has very acceptable sound and not alot of static.

Unfortunately it has one fatal design flaw that makes listening to classical, jazz and any other type of music with any quiet passages VERY FRUSTRATING. During the quiet parts the unit will shut itself off causing my car audio to emit a ear piercing screech when it loses the signal. I haven't measured it but it seems like as little a 10-15 seconds of quiet causes this behavior.

This makes this unit useless for classical music and quite a bit of jazz and other similar styles. If you listen to quiet music, avoid at all costs. If you don't it is the best transmitter I have tried.

I am reviewing this product primarily in reply to the reviewer who complained that this transmitter regularly turned off during quiet musical passages. When I originally read the review, I was concerned about this but also took it as a good sign that the transmitter automatically shut itself off when the car isn't running which was a complaint I read in a review of a competing product. I could not find any mention of an automatic turn off in the albeit sparse instruction manual. I have had the transmitter for a couple of months now and have to report that I have not had that problem with it in my Buick Riviera. I have listened to jazz, rock and audio books using the transmitter and have not had it turn off on me while playing. The unit then turns off when the engine and electrical system are turned off. I did notice though that with a borrowed Chrysler minivan it stays on after the engine is off and the key removed so that is something to consider. As for performance, I agree with virtually every other reviewer, in rural areas it works very well. In more urban areas with few open fm frequencies, it is more difficult to maintain a signal that isn't interfered with by nearby stations.

I bought this to provide audio playback in my vehicle for my new Sony Ericsson W580i. I had previously used a Griffin iTrip with an iPod 3G 20GB to broadcast tunes to my car; the interface was horrible and the transmitter was underpowered. Not a good product to use. My sister uses a Kensington transmitter for her iPod Nano (the Kensington FM transmitter with the iPod dock connector) and it seems to work very nicely.

PROS:

I like the tuner and the preset buttons...much better idea than other tuner mechanisms in competing products. Cord is adequately long. Transmit power is very nice; I've used it in my vehicle and my wife's vehicle, and it can seem to drown out almost any strong FM signal. As a result, I don't find myself needing to use the tuner or the presets as often as I would have thought.

CONS:

This thing cuts out when it doesn't detect a significant signal within 10 seconds (a threshold which is regrettably not user-modifiable). That means if the transitions between songs are soft, or a song is not adequately normalized, the transmitter powers itself down. The only way I've found to turn it back in is to unplug/replug it into the outlet. This was VERY distracting on a car trip, whether I was the driver or the passenger. I had the volume set to about 75-80% of max, but it didn't seem to matter; every few songs, it died on me. HORRIBLE. If I raised the volume above 75%, I got the expected audio distortion (which is identical to what I received when using the Griffin iTrip) but the tuner didn't turn itself off as often. So the user has to play an elaborate game with volume to prevent this feature from interrupting your music, or you have to be lucky enough to have an audio source that can normalize its output.

It also has some kind of Arielle signal processing chip inside to theoretically make the sound better. From what I could tell, it sounded as if the audio was continually being adjusted (treble slightly up and down, stereo widening in and out) depending on the frequency balance of the music. This would be similar to buying a digital camera that applied too much color compensation and noise smoothing; I expected a faithful facsimile of the original audio, not a frequency-tweaked estimate.

I would never recommend this product to anyone...it is a shame that the actual FM transmitter is such high quality, but the "features" get in the way. Also such a shame that Kensington is a relatively high-end choice in iPod/MP3 accessories...definitely not the case for this device.

If you want to hear stellar quality coming from your mp3 player and hear it play on your car speakers, you aren't going to get it with an FM transmitter device. You need a more direct connection (in other words get a new stereo that has the appropriate inputs for your mp3 player).

That being said, this device is the best FM transmitter for MP3 Players out there. I've previously owned the iTrip and that was pretty good, but this Kensington product is even better. Find the right station to use (find one with the most static, this will produce the clearest sound), and crank the volume on your mp3 player to about 2/3. Kensington is more powerful than the other fm transmitters out there so you won't have to crank up your radio stereo much.

I haven't run into a problem with it shutting off in the middle of playing a song as others have reported, but I do tend to listen to loud energy music so that may be a factor. However, I did notice that it did not turn itself off when I turned my ignition off. That could just be with my car though because I have a car that keeps the headlights on for like 30 seconds after you turn off the ignition.

Its shape is not as big as the pictures make you think, but it does feel loose in my cigarette lighter (I think that's just my car though). I prefer this hardware design to the iTrip's because there is just the plug and a wire, as opposed to plug, wire, controller, wire.

If you just want mp3s on your current stereo NOW, and don't care about perfect quality, buy this brand. If quality is really important to you, find a direct connection.

I read the other reviews about this product prior to purchasing and was amused by the widely varying degrees of satisfaction that other people had with this product.

This is one of the best purchases I have made in a while. Quite simply; it works!!!!Without reading the instructions, I literally pluged it in, set the car radio to an open station, tuned the transmitter to that station, plugged it into my MPS player's headphone jack and have been listening problem-free ever since.

I bought this unit because it has a cord on the 12 volt end so that it can be plugged into our tightly quartered cigarette lighter outlet. It also meets my power needs. Be aware, this is really only an 80 watt unit that handles 100 watts for no more than a couple of minutes. At 80 watts it will draw about 6 to 7 amps from the lighter, or accessory outlet so be sure the outlet can handle it. Our new car has three such outlets but only the lighter outlet is really up to the task (15 amps or about 15A * 14V = 210 watts). The others are fine for devices that draw only a little power like a GPS, cell phone, MP3 player, etc.

The unit has a small fan inside that comes on when the electronics inside get too warm. Be sure not to block the vent slots in the case, especially the circular ones on the bottom since this is the only intake for the fan. I don't find the fan too loud, being just barely perceptible when it comes on while I'm driving. Mine feels solid, well made, is simple to use and does what it's suppose to.

It is 100 W 0.8 A for 5 minutes only, all the rest of the time is 80W 0.65 A. Consider this when buying it.

It is made by a company called XANTREX in china for DURACELL.

Too Hot For Vegas

I bought this charger because I switched from the iPhone to Droid and needed a charger ASAP. This one was on amazon prime and it wasn't the cheapest, ( it was the second cheapest) so I figured it was ok.

Technically The charger worked great it charged the phone fast.

However, in about a month after owning it; it broke in half at the seams so all the wires showed. The charger stilled worked but I didn't feel safe having exposed wires hangs out of it in the car. So I trashed it and bought a different charger and so far the other charger has worked for 6 months and counting.

If you need something quick, fast, and cheap this is the charger for you. However, don't plan on keeping the charger forever. It is a cheap charger, it works but isn't going to last for years. I think the main reason it might have broke to be honest with you is the heat from vegas. The heat might have warped the case and then when I pulled it out of the car plug it split in half. If I lived someplace cooler it might still be in one part.

The cradle for me is like having your phone on display and it is a very simplistic way of being able to charge the phone without having to connect the usb cables or a charger you just dock it and it is ready to go. The phone fits nice and snug in the dock. I keep a dock at home with my desktop and a dock at work. I have the Think Outside Stowaway keyboard which allows me to text and IM easily without having to remove the phone from the cradle. The only drawback that I find for this cradle is the fact that if there is not a battery in the 2nd battery charger the light flashes red and green when it is connected to the AC adapter. Which brings me to another point the cradle I previously owned the USB cord was connected permanently onto the cradle this has a usb cord and ac adapter that it comes with if you are going to be using the dock cradle only for syncing with your computer you can just connect the USB cable. If you turn off your system you would want to keep both connected because it does not charge the phone when the computer is off if you use only a usb cable because there is no power. But I digress. The flashing light does not bother me since the phone is docked at night in my living room with my desktop. But that does seem odd that it would flash when there is nothing in the battery slot. Previous docks I have owned eons ago when they came with your phone only lit up if there was an extra battery in the 2nd battery slot. I know this is a lot to say over a very inexpensive charger but I am happy with my purchase and with the camera being in the very center of my phone I hate to have to lie it on a surface so this keeps my phone and camera as scratch free as possible.

I really like having the backup battery on hand. Job requires hours of talk time. Nice to "dock" safely when not in use. Looks nice on the desk rather than cords everywhere!

This thing is awesome. If you have a 2nd battery it will charge it and it doesn't need a usb cable to charge both the phone and battery. Just plug it into the wall.

Does exactly what you need charges the iPOD. Its cheaper than Apple version. It solidly built seems to me to be the same thing. We have three iPODs from 3 generations and it worked on 4-6th with no problem. Kids threw it in the travel bag with other accessories and its worked unscathed since.

Only problem I have is my DC socket (accessory / cigarette outlet), on my vehicle can not support the weight of this & phone too. I don't blame the product>> but I can't use it. The outlet on my car is on the dash in an -verticalposition and when I put this charger in it, my outlet starts to bend out of the dash. My accessory / cigarette outlet socket is not well supported in the dash. I have an older phone that I only use for emergencies but lost the charger. I guess I don't spend enough time driving to charge the phone with the car charger.
