You can't have a GPS without the charger, so I purchased this as a gift to go along with a charger that I had bought for one of my daughters. It works very well and she has had no problems with it at all.

Having a GPS is nice but often it does not find the best route to your destination. It will recalculate if you make a wrong turn which helps with stress in driving.

It should have come with a house charger as well as a car charger. i would prefer a stand that is portable not one that sticks to your dash. There is so much theft of GPS units I will have to order something that is easy to remove when I get out of the car.

Overall I like it just some of the features were not though out.

MorningStar ProStar PS-30M PWM Solar Battery Charge Controller, 30 Amp 12/24 Volts

MorningStar ProStar PS-30M PWM Solar Battery Charge Controller, 30 Amp 12/24 VoltsI decided to put together a system with two 100-Watt solar panels, a couple of deep cycle batteries and a good quality solar charge controller, instead of the simple on/off type. I'm an electronics engineer and I used to design battery chargers for sealed lead acid batteries. I know how important it is for longevity and charge density to properly charge and maintain the batteries. Even in the best of all possible worlds any sealed lead acid battery is going to be down to about 60% capacity after 5 years, so these devices that maintain the batteries are important.

This product is well-built and appears to be of high quality. Initial setup and programming was very easy and the instructions go beyond instructing you to the point of adding a little education. I tested my system with volt and current meters and this device worked very well. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, it's nicely packaged and easy to use. It just works.

Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port

Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging PortWorst! Product! Ever! This is a very poor quality design. When it is plugged into the socket, any little bump or jolt causes it to lose power. No matter what angle it is set in, it is physically impossible not to jiggle it. I drive a stick and every time I shift gears, the shifter knocks it out of kilter. Drives me crazy (those who know me say that it's a short trip) :-)

On the upside, the USB port worked and is a cool gadget. It powered my iBook nicely on a recent trip. Too bad the rest of it was such a piece of junk.

This is not the adapter you're looking for, move along.....

This thing blew out the fuses on 2 of my satelite radios, and blew out the fuse on my car while I was using the USB port to charge my iphone. When you plug things into it they come back out in short order. It also comes out of the socket that you plug it into. NOT happy. Its too bad because its a good idea.

Buy Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port Now

I purchased this item mainly for the USB. I only had my cell phone plugged into it for about 10 minutes when I noticed the green light no longer lit and my phone no longer charging. When I pulled the unit out it was VERY HOT! When I got to work I pulled out the internal fuse and it was ok so it appears the unit is no longer functioning. Not much bang for the buck IMO.

Read Best Reviews of Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port Here

I bought this unit for a driving vacation, and the entire unit stopped working after a few minutes. It may have been the fuse in the power outlet adapter, but I only had a GPS and an iPhone plugged in it.

Foolishly, I bought another one a few hundred miles away, hoping I had bought a lemon and that the product was probably good. Unfortunately, the USB died on this unit after a couple of hours.

I ended up using a larger more expensive power adapter with a Griffin double-USB powerblock. It worked fine except for the space it took up.

Would someone please make a product along these lines, that works well for people like me who have GPS, iPhones and other devices that need to be charged.

The product should also be solid, and not loosely rattle around on its hinges like this device. The product would ideally also have 2 USB ports and be able to charge iPods/iPhones/digital cameras without blowing a fuse.

Want Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port Discount?

I have watched at least a half dozen of these fry. The USB port overheats a capacitor in the splitter, and then the whole thing is worthless.

If you bought one of these, and don't want it to fry, don't use the USB port. It appears that the USB port is what causes the failure of this miserable product.

My advice: Return it and wait for them to make a new model.

Amp Solar Charger

Voltaic Systems 1018 Amp Solar Charger and 3,000 mAh Battery - 4 Watts Solar Power for Handheld Electronics - SilverThis 1018 Solar Charger is awesome. I took it out into the field for 2 weeks straight. I used some D rings to clip it onto my backpack and it went everywhere with me. In direct sunlight it took about 6 hours to get a full charge. It will let you know when you look at the LED's it will stop flashing when its completely full. I used this in conjunction with my iphone and every night it charged my iPhone to 100%. This thing worked great. I only used it with an iPod and my iPhone, but anything else should charge as long as it plugs in USB. If you turn your device off, it will charge much faster. A few of my buddies purchased cheaper versions like this and had issues with them. Mine was the only one that worked the whole time in the field.

I bought this charger to keep my iPhone topped off during camping trips. It does exactly what you want it to do, and performs quite nicely! I tested it out in the woods, out of direct sunlight, and was able to get a full charge of my iPhone 4 each day (I literally ran the phone dead each day using the GPS). I'm certain I could get more juice out of it if I kept it in direct sunlight all day long.

The only thing I would (and likely will) change is that while charging the interior of the case is exposed. Laying it out on a rock to bask in the sun caused a few scuffs on the internal battery. I'm considering adding a layer of cloth inside, so the battery and connectors are always protected.

The battery is removable, and slips easily into a shirt pocket. This is an awesome feature, as it can be used as a battery booster for your phone. I won't have to use my phone sparingly at the zoo/theme parks anymore, as I'll have another charge and a half waiting in my pocket.

Perfect for keeping a phone charged up each day; for a notebook/tablet, I'd go bigger.

Buy Amp Solar Charger Now

The Voltiac solar charger is expensive, but worth it. I've gotten less expensive chargers that ended up powering very few things. The huge advantage to the Voltaic is that it includes a battery. If the battery has been charged through the solar panels (about 4 hours in full sun), that can be used to fully charge a cell phone or other small item. If you have access to full sun, the solar panels will directly charge your item. My family took this on a camping trip in an area that has iffy phone reception, so batteries burn out quickly as the phone keeps searching for a signal. The Voltaic kept the phones charged. Next camping trip I will have to get at least one more, so we can each have regular access to one.

I also make sure to keep the battery charged at home. We have frequent power outages, and our FIOS landline stops working after about 12 hours without power. The Voltiac will keep our cell phones charged.

I have been looking for quite some time for a solar charger for my iPhone and i Touch. I spend lots of time in remote areas without electricity where it is still nice to have my Itouch for listening to books and such. Also, I bike ride a lot and this charger is perfect for recharging my phone on the road no matter where I am. It is not a tiny charger, but well worth the space. Note that it has 4 watts of power. this is double what many solar charger have. That means the charging time is very quick.

Want Amp Solar Charger Discount?

I have this for over a year and purchased a second one. I have the charcoal one and now I got a silver one. I would recommend a silver one over charcoal. Looks geeky. It is great for charging those ever draining smartphones/iphones. Just let it charge the battery in Voltaic during long drives and later if you are parked you can charge the phones. Also while traveling it is very useful especially airports/international travels where there is power cuts/irregular electricity supply. I am very pleased with this for the cool factor and real productive use.

Easy Fit IPX4 Waterproof Tough Case Motorcycle Bike Handlebar Mount Galaxy S3 SGH-i747

Easy Fit IPX4 Waterproof Tough Case Motorcycle Bike Handlebar Mount Galaxy S3 SGH-i747The build on this as far as the phone is good. It is snug and I suspect that it would protect the phone very well. A few issues are that you can't access the power button while the phone is in the case, another is that since I have a Mountain Bike my handle bar is a bit larger than some so I wasn't able to get it to mount at first. After much work and moving things around a bit I did get it mounted. The final issue is that the phone wouldn't stay in one position. After riding on not so bumpy terrain it started to rotate without me touching it. Finally, I tried to return this before using it since I noticed that I didn't care for a few things about it visually. When I contacted seller I found out that I had to go through a bunch of junk to return it and was told that maybe I should just try and resell it, in their words, "Due to the fairly high cost of returning items back to the UK, it may be in your best interest to resell it on the same listing, saving this cost." Sorry but that left a sour taste in my mouth for EVER buying from the UK again.

This is a very good product. It fits my phone perfectly and I can still use my touch screen. The case has two clips to keep it shut solidly. It has buttons where you can adjust the volume, too. If I were to try to find a downside for this case, it would be that you can't hit the power button. But, I see this as a non-issue for my applications of this case. It seems very rugged and waterproof. I have not used the product in the rain yet. It takes a little bit to hit the top status bar on the touch screen with my phone in the case, but I have found it be possible. I also bought a power adapter and a "pro" handlebar mount to use this with my motorcycle. Both of which I'm happy with. The "pro" adapter affixes to the handlebars with two screws, instead of one "easy release style." However, I used the mount that comes with the bundle for use on my bicycle. It seems solid and reliable so far. I can now use my phone for Google maps/navigation and music on my motorcycle, and I can use my free bicycle computer app and music on my bicycle. The bicycle application is the main reason I got this mount and case. Now I have all of the functions of the expensive GPS bicycle computers with my phone. I feel very confident that this case would protect my phone if I wiped out on my bicycle. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product, and I would recommend it.

Black & Decker CPI10B 10 Watt Power To Go Cordless Compact AC/USB Power Supply (Black)

Black & Decker CPI10B 10 Watt Power To Go Cordless Compact AC/USB Power SupplyPROS: Small, easy to carry. USB and AC outlets. No need for a separate inverter.

CONS: This device takes 11 hours to fully recharge! Some devices can cause the Power-to-Go device to get very hot. Pretty bulky when you consider it cannot even fully recharge a tiny MP3 player like the iPod Nano.

I thought that this device would be able to fully recharge my at least my iPod Nano. I plugged it in when my Nano was at 50% and the Power-to-Go lost all it's juice before the Nano was even at 100%! The Power-to-Go was able to give me an extra bar of battery life on my LG LX8000 phone, but that was about it. Also when I unplugged my cell phone charger from the Power-to-Go, the metals plugs of my charger were very hot. The manual recommends that the Power-to-Go not be left unattended and that it be monitored for rises in temperature. I guess this device would be helpful for dire emergencies, but don't expect your electronic devices to be fully charged. Despite the small charge the Power-to-Go gives out, the power supply itself needs 11 hours to fully recharge from a fully discharged state. I've never owned any small electronic device that needed such a long recharge time.

Looking that the three versions of this 10W, 20W, 100W, I found the technical details on the B+D site helpful:

This Model # CPI10B has a 700mAh battery, the 20W a 2Ah battery, and the 100W a 4Ah battery. It looks like they are progressively heavier, but I can't find accurate figures on weight or dimensions.

Input 7.2 VDC, 2.5A

Output 115V AC 60Hz, 8W continuous

Battery 700mAh, NiMH

USB 5V DC (350 mA)

* Approximate talk time based on average results using commonly used cell ohones. Results may vary depending on features/cell phone used

Car Charger (CLA) for AT&T HTC Inspire 4G

Car Charger for AT&T HTC Inspire 4GThis works great, especially when I want to use a feature on my phone like navigation, which requires me to turn on GPS satellites that drain the battery. I just plug it into my car charger first.

To my surprise the charger did not fit the phone. This was very disapointing seeing as my friend really needed this charger and AT&T has a price that would make you think the componets were made of gold. Sometimes one may have to pay full price to get it right. I would really like to correct charger for this phone seeing as i paid my hard earned money...........

Too Hot For Vegas

I bought this charger because I switched from the iPhone to Droid and needed a charger ASAP. This one was on amazon prime and it wasn't the cheapest, ( it was the second cheapest) so I figured it was ok.

Technically The charger worked great it charged the phone fast.

However, in about a month after owning it; it broke in half at the seams so all the wires showed. The charger stilled worked but I didn't feel safe having exposed wires hangs out of it in the car. So I trashed it and bought a different charger and so far the other charger has worked for 6 months and counting.

If you need something quick, fast, and cheap this is the charger for you. However, don't plan on keeping the charger forever. It is a cheap charger, it works but isn't going to last for years. I think the main reason it might have broke to be honest with you is the heat from vegas. The heat might have warped the case and then when I pulled it out of the car plug it split in half. If I lived someplace cooler it might still be in one part.

Pro.

Cheap

Got the Job done ie it charged the phone

Fast Shipping ( got it in 2 days)

Cons.

It was cheap broke quickly

Retractable Car Charger for Samsung Captivate (Includes OrionGadgets Cleaning Cloth)

Retractable Car Charger for Samsung CaptivateCaptivate Car Charger / B003WNYMX8

I bought this for use with my Samsung Captivate. The connection to the phone works fine. Nice and snug, with no problems either connecting or un-connecting. The connection to the car dock works well enough the fit is just a little bit loose and can "shake free" on bumpy car rides; fortunately, the charger has a light that goes out when the connection is lost, so it's easy to notice and fix if the charger does shake loose. The retractable cord is nice, although you do have to coax the last inch or two to retract I guess they didn't want the connector to smack violently into the charger each time you retract.

The charger itself seems to work well enough, but it definitely doesn't put out the same level of juice that you'll get from your wall charger. With the phone screen on and speaker phone going, the charger just barely manages to keep the battery level steady I would imagine that heavy usage of the phone (music, video, etc. while driving) would be too much for the charger to handle. Still, I purchased the charger to help take the edge off the daily drain on my phone, so this charger works sufficiently well for my needs.

~ Ana Mardoll

I bought 2 of these because they were just too inexpensive and i could put one in my car and truck both. It works as described, the retractable cord functions as it should. No cord laying around to get tangled amoungst your other cords when not being used! I should have bought 2 more while I was purchasing...

Schumacher XC10 SpeedCharge 10 Amp Battery Charger

Schumacher XC10 SpeedCharge 10 Amp Battery ChargerIn the past 7 months I have returned two of this charger. It stops working if you use it often. I have a Volks Wagen Camper, so I have to often recharge my battery. Both Units Failed after a few months of use.

I would buy something else, Dont Buy This Model..!!

left my key on, my honda's battery is only 1 year old, it was almost dead, but it barely started, drove it around for about am hour running here and there. Then I hooked this thing up, set it to 6 amps (turtle?) and it said it would go to float charge after it was charged. After about 2 or 3 hours, I went to the garage and it smelled like battery acid, and I could here the battery boiling. Put the fluke meter on it ... 16.1 volts!!! I did some research, and the max equalizing charge voltage should be is 15.5v No way, its going back.

This is the second Schumacher charger that is going to the dump for me. The 1.5A says there's a problem with the battery on every battery I've put it on. This one charged the first battery I hooked it to. It boiled the second battery. The third battery was a 6V and sparked as soon as the charge started. I don't think the automatic voltage detection works and I think it sends too high voltage even on a 12V. I will be searching for a different brand.

The screen protector and cases fit very nicely. The arm band and the belt clip are great for the job as well. The charger is a major major con!!!! at least my charger makes the on-screen options useless. When the charger is plugged in you can't change anything, for instance you can't even change the song because there is no response. The speaker is loud, but can get energy pops, it is not getting the proper wattage and not enough air to create the correct sounds, but for what it is I was very pleased with the speaker. I have not used the car charger, but I assume it will have similar issues to that of the wall charger.

HQRP Pair MC4 Solar Panel Connector male & female (M&F) for PV / Photovoltaic System plus HQRP Coas

HQRP Pair MC4 Solar Panel Connector male & female for PV / Photovoltaic System plus HQRP CoasterI disagree with reviewers who say these connectors are overpriced. They are not, for what they do. They provide a positive latching seal, and as important they seem to be completely waterproof. I imagine they could be totally immersed in water and would not leak. Both male and female connectors have a tight wide soft silicone seal at the back of the connectors. The mating side of the "positive" connector has a red O ring that seals into the "negative" connector when they are mated together. However there are no instructions, so it takes a bit of pondering to understand how they should be assembled. It is important to crimp them correctly, not so much to make a good connection (I would recommending soldering them after crimping) but so they will fit into their respective shells and allow the rear seal to be pushed in completely. After crimping and soldering be sure they are straight and the edges of the crimp do not protrude. Be sure to examine the female connector on your cable or solar panel and notice how far the metal is recessed in the shell. Yours should be about the same.

Another hint to avoid getting + and mixed up when the stripped end of your cable is connected to the controller: Remember that your female connector that you will connect to the cable or solar panel male connector with the red O ring WILL BE HOT OR + END and the stripped end should be connected to the + side of the controller. The female that you attached to your wire is +. Your connector with the Red O ring will be negative, -. Clear as mud? Re-read this as you sit at your workbench until you puzzle them out.

One star knocked off for lack of documentation.

These connectors are very easy to put together and use. Why the 4 star....I don't believe they will acommodater any wire larger than 10 gauge, and you MUST solder the wire to the connector. No big deal, if you use a butane tourch/solder apparatus. Very happy with them myself.

I purchased these connectors for my 100 watt solar system for my camper. I used them with 12 gauge outdoor lighting cable and they worked fine. I crimped them with a cheap standard crimping tool and then soldered them.

TomTom Rider 2 GPS Navigator for Motorcycles and Scooters

TomTom Rider 2 GPS Navigator for Motorcycles and Scooters
  • Tomtom Rider Is One Of The Smartest Navigation Solutions For Motorcycles.
  • Rugged Waterproof Device
  • Anti-Glare Screen
  • Integrated Sun Visor, And Gloves-On Operation
  • Navigation Instructions Are Spoken Via In-Helmet Cardo Scala-Rider

I received this unit for Christmas primarily for my bike, but once I purchase the car mount adapter it will be used in the car as well.

This is an excellent unit, to say the least. One reviewer mentioned that it's too difficult to turn the unit onI say "hogwash". The pushbutton is stiff, yes, but that's done to keep the unit from turning on accidentally while in your jacket pocket or carry bag (and with a touch screen, you can well imagine how much mischief one could accidentally create if it turned on without your knowledge). Ditto with the Scala Rider headsetyou don't want the thing accidentally turning on, running the battery down, do you?

Another reviewer mentioned that it doesn't have a "speedometer" or trip meter functionit most certainly does have a speedometer, and what I assume is the "trip meter"but since TomTom set the unit from the factory to eliminate as much extraneous information as possible, you have to activate it in the menus. Once that has been activated, it'll be there until you turn that feature off. In fact, there are a great number of features you can turn on and off in the menus.

I found the documentation to be adequate, and to the point. The printed documentation is to get you up to speed until you charge the units and turn them onit's easy sailing after that. The unit is very easy to use, and it has tutorials right on the unit, so in my opinion further paper documentation is rather redundantactually, I think it's pretty smart on TomTom's part to include tutorials on the unit itself rather than supply a printed bookthat way I don't have to carry around the book, as all of the information is already on the unit! They really don't say much about the bike power cable, but I can certainly understand whyit's not possible to provide information about every bike out there, and if you aren't familiar enough with your bike, or can't figure out how to install it, it's probably best to get someone who is (like your bike dealer) to do the installation.

I've got a Motorolla Razr phone, and the TomTom easily hooked up to my phone via Bluetooth, and it painlessly downloaded all of my phone numbers I have stored on the phone (thank you for providing this helpful feature!).

I do wish that it gave the street name when it gives you instructions to turn, but I soon got used to how it worksnot only does the display give you very clear instructions on where to turn, it also gives you the street name. Once you get used to it, it's easy. But I would like the option of hearing the street name (my PDA does, but the map display isn't as easy to see as the TomTom). While playing with the unit as my father-in-law drove the car, I discovered one potential issue with having the street name spoken to youwhat happens when the street name is changed, but your maps haven't been updated? If you rely on the spoken street name, you might miss itit's best to take a glance at the screen to make sure you're taking the correct turn (I found one such roadthe name has recently been changed, but the map showed the old name instead). Still, I'd prefer to have it spoken, and visually double-check the map.

Overall, I give the TomTom an A-. TomTom, if you're reading this, I'll give you an A+ if you guys update the software so that it'll give you the street name by voicethen you'll have the best bike GPS available! However, I'd still buy the unit as is. It would just increase the functionality by including this feature.

My wife gave me this unit for Christmas. She's a doll and I love her very much, but she was not very versed about what to shop for or expect from a GPS unit. I've now used the unit several hours during trips, utilizing the blue tooth connectivity with my cell phone and the included headset within my helmet. Ive also used it in the car a lot. They said this unit was designed by motorcyclists, but obviously the bikers TomTom consulted knew very little about the minimum expectations for features required in a decent GPS unit...especially one costing this much.

I am going to break-down my review into two parts....what it has that is good...and what it lacks that makes it a non-competitive GPS unit in the US. I've used GPS technology at work and at play for years. Most of my background with consumer-grade GPS units is with the Garmin brand. So it is to that brand that I will make most of my comparisons because Garmin, for the most part, has it right and does it right! (imho)I have no financial or personal relationship with Garmin, whatsoever.

OK..first for the positive...it's water resistant/proof (don't really know about the proof part cause I havent had it in the pouring rain yet)...Fast processor and fast acquisition of the GPS constellation...good screen graphics and brightness...decent battery life...sensitive touch screen technology....blue tooth capable...can download your Outlook contact database....decent internal memory...heavy duty Ram mounting hardware for your bikes handle bars....USB connectivity to your computer for map downloads, etc....and if you are into directions from the unit, it has a few male and female voices from which to choose.

Now for the features it should have but does not:

-Should have a trip computer with trip parameters such as max speed, average moving speed, time moving, time sitting still, odometer, trip odometer, vertical and horizontal elevation, etc. None of this exists on the tomtom rider.

-Should leave a track, or a bread crumb trail, as you ride along. Not available on the TTRider. This is a real disappointment.

-Should have larger fonts for speed, arrival time, etc. Way too small to have to deal with on a motorcycle...even when set to the largest font.

-Should not "snap" to the nearest road to fool you into thinking their base map is accurate...because it is not that accurate in reality.

-Should come with a cig lighter plug for powering, but it does not.

-Does not allow any preference setting while in motion. You must stop before you can do anything with this unit outside of a few limited functions. Excuse: a safety feature

-Cannot make a call while moving. You can only recieve calls while moving. What's that about???? (yea I know, safety)

Has annoying icons on the screen when the phone and headset are not connected and there is no way to get them off the screen!!

-Gives you no options as far as screen orientation relating to your travel direction...always points you up. Thats ok most of the time, but we deserve to have a choice in this price class.

-Can fall off the ball mount and, if not tethered to the bike or mounting base, it will hit the ground and will be lost.

No elevation available...for those of us that ride in mountains and are use to seeing this on gps units, it's certainly an oversight by the TTRider. GPS derived elevation is not that accurate in the first place, but readings are relative and give a pretty good indication of elevation changes as you ride.

Direct sunlight makes the screen totally INVISIBLE.

If I could send it back to Amazon I would. I plan to give it to by wife for her car and purchase a gps unit that more closely fits my needs as a touring motorcyclist and as a consumer that refuses to settle for inadequate and poorly designed products.

1. I have owned a Rider for more than 18 months.

2. The first one I had, the dock broke in Texas while I was riding Route 66.

3. I called TomTom from Texas (I live in Calif) and asked them to FedEx a new one.

They said no can do.

4. Once home, TomTom sent me a new Dock, but... it took them 1 month to get it to me.

5. After a while I started to notice that the Rider was not charging while in the dock and on my bike.

6. They asked me to send them my Rider back with all the accessories.

7. Then after 4 weeks, they sent me a new Rider, with no charger and no accessories.

8. The asked me to send it back.

8. After another 4 weeks, they sent me another.... new Rider... with all the accessories.

9. The dock didn't charge.

10. After another week, they sent me a new dock. It works.

There are known issues with the docks and charging, but TomTom won't admit it.

It's manufacturering issue. I'll let you guess where they are made.

The Tom Tom rider is good, easy to use. But if anything goes wrong, you'll be waiting many weeks for a replacement.

Ad of course the wait time on the phone, plan on an hour with each call.

I probably would NOT buy another one.

I bought this product from Amazon and received it 4-days ago. In the last 4-days, I have been in contact with TomTom by phone and email trying not only to get detailed information about the product, but also trying to get help with it. This is by far the worst motorcycle GPS on the market.

The Pro's: (there is only one)

1) They have upgraded the headset to the Cardo Scala Q2.

The Con's:

1) The screen is unreadable outside either in the sunlight or on overcast days. It looks completely white washed. There are no settings to resolve this on the unit.

2) The documentation included is for the original Rider, not the Rider 2nd Edition.

3) The screen is unreadable outside

4) There is no documentation available from TomTom or from RAM-Mount for the motorcycle mount that is included.

5) The screen is unreadable outside

6) TomTom's 30-day map guarantee only works if you call and harass them about it. Then you must fax or email proof of purchase before they will comply with there own guarantee.

7) The screen is unreadable outside

8) The power button is ridiculously hard to operate

9) The screen is unreadable outside

10) THE SCREEN IS UNREADABLE OUTSIDE!!!!!!!

So, in my opinion I can only believe that people who rate this highly either ride only at dusk, or during the nighttime. Either that, or they want everyone to make the same mistake they did, so they don't feel like they are the only one's that were taken for their money.

Oh, and did you get it yet?

THE SCREEN IS UNREADABLE OUTSIDE!

The whole purpose of the unit is to use it outside on a motorcycle!

I have owned a TomTom GO910 for a few years, and was actually very pleased with it except for the cost. But I will NEVER purchase another TomTom device after dealing with the company over the last 4-days.

My recommendations would be to please do your research online in advance. The TomTom Rider and the TomTom Rider 2nd Edition are pure crap, because there SCREENS ARE NOT READABLE OUTSIDE! Which itself is ridiculous as they were specifically designed for motorcycles!

Do yourself a huge favor, buy the Garmin Nuvi 550 instead! It's waterproof with an 8-hour rechargeable and replaceable lithium battery! Plus, its only half the price of the all too overpriced Zumo model! Wanna save even more money, buy the Garmin Nuvi 500. Again, waterproof with an 8-hour rechargeable and replaceable lithium battery. The only difference between it and the Nuvi 550 are the maps. The lower 48 vs. all of North America.

I bought the Rider 2 GPS last summer, to tour the south of France, from Paris. I'd travelled before with maps, sometimes missing offramps out of confusion (freeway signs here are only really good if you're a local, in which case you don't need them in the first place!!). After having used a TomTom GPS in a rental car to go to Italy, I decided to get one for my Speed Triple, for the pleasure of being guided from "above". The decision was made a week before my departure, so I didn't really have time to investigate the market. I discovered only Garmin & TomTom have bike-specific models, and that both were incredibly expensive compared to car units. Being used to, and pleased with the TomTom interface, I decided to buy TT. The first Rider 2 I bought would not connect to my Motorola Razr V3i, despite the help from the sales reps, and would refuse to turn on, even fully charged. After 3 (THREE!!) trade-ins, I had to leave for my 1 1/2 month vacation with my current unit, picked up the same morning.

My first beef was to find that not only would it start trying connecting to my V3i, then fail, but I'd also have to use the cellular connection to obtain the updates, and 1 month trial of various options I'D PAID FOR!! This is totally stupid. If you're going to have to use a PC to save your SD card, let the PC handle further downloads and updates!!! It doesn't take being a racket science wiz to understand a DSL connection is more reliable than a cellular. Also, the fact you have to pay for updates, and options that should be standard, is preposterous.

My second problem, is the fact that as long as you're moving, you cannot access/change routing information. That's totally stupid too. Even at walking speeds, the unit will accept no change of route, or any other modification. When you're on the freeway, or on city streets with no place to stop, this is really aggravating. I know it's supposedly for security reasons, but changing your destination to a favorite isn't going to put you in danger in most cases, stopping and starting on a road close to heavy traffic will. In any case, you can tap all you want on a car unit, so security obviously isn't a valid reason. In any case, I hate when an appliance is set to restrain my use of it, and not let me decide for myself when/if what I do is safe.

3rd beef: sometimes, maps are obsolete from the start. When driving through Italy, I was directed to turn right on a freeway, in the middle of... fields!!! There was an offramp on my screen, miles from any actual offramps. Only corn fields, which had obviously been there for years, and weren't going to disappear in favor of a new road overnight. Really scary when you're on a schedule..

Maybe I should have listed first the On/Off button. I have very strong arms & fingers, but the time & pressure (and numerous attempts) it takes to turn it on hurts my fingers each time. Needless to even think of asking my girlfriend to do it...

The last unnicety I can think of right now, is the fact, if you're typing an address, the streets that pop up aren't entirely legible on the screen. It appears there's no way to view further past the first letters. This is really a bummer in France, where streets precede their name. Example: if you're looking for an address on Boulevard du General De Gaulle, all that appears on the screen is "Boulevard du Genera", so you have to type each and every letter in the name, or you'll get directed to another general's name, and, as there's no "back" function, you'll have to go through the whole itinerary planning procedure again to try to get it right. Total lack of user-friendliness, for a unit that's supposed to be usable by bikers, with gloves on.

On the upside, missing an exit leads the unit to recalculate another itinerary very quickly, the reason exactly I'd bought a GPS. Arrival times are incredibly accurate, even on long trips. Screen maps are legible. The RAM fixing system is great, and solid, but props there go to RAM, not TomTom. The Scala system works fine, and is reasonably audible, although the choice of a higher pitched female voice, on full volume is a must, if you're going to be riding over 100 mph.

If I'd had more time to choose, I'd have bought the Garmin Zumo instead. The price is too high for a GPS that's so poorly engineered. It does work nicely when it's all set up correctly, but not being able to take phone calls, use paid for updates, or use your PC to download data is unacceptable.

Stanley DPS109 Digital Portable Power Station

Stanley DPS109 Digital Portable Power StationI bought two of these units about one year ago. One is still functioning. The other failed after 3 months. .500 is a good batting average if you are a baseball player but not so for consumer products. I will not buy another nor recommend the product.

My daughter has one of these because her husband felt it was a good thing for her to have, when her battery died and she was stuck 2 hours waiting for a tow truck. She has used it numerous times for things like pumping up a trailer tire, jump starting their riding lawnmower with it, charging up her cell phone in a power outage, and tonight we just used it again during a five hour power outage as our main source of light. It has a 12 volt cigarette lighter style socket, a USB and wall outlet power source. We can't find anything bad to say about this little unit and I am going to buy one of these for myself when I return home. We Love this unit!!!!

This thing cranked a car with a dead battery once for me. After that it just did not have enough power for the job. I used it to pump up a few tires (that were soft, not flat) and now it barely does that.

Now after using it 5 or 6 times, I have it on the charger and it won't go past 11.3 volts.

This unit was a replacement for another Stanley jump box that also failed after a month. Don't waste your money on this it will let you down.

BTW, the jump box I owned previously jumped dozens of cars and lasted for several years! It was a generic unit I bought on sale for $20! I am wishing I had not left it in the back of some car I worked on.

Overall I like it, documentation is sparse, LCD readout is very nice, my main complaint it it does not come with a 12V adaptor so it can be charged form a car 12V outlet.
