Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger

I've had it on for a month now and it's great. The first couple of days, the red light was on indicating charging. Since then it's been on green and the car starts right up. I live in Houston where the heat and humidity can be just as brutal on batteries as the cold.
I highly recommend this "tender" for those that have cars that stay unused for long periods.
As other reviews have mentioned it comes with a set of adapters that allow you to permanently attach pigtails to the battery posts and then you can quickly connect the tender without having to use the alligator clips (also included).
For the price and free shipping you can't go wrong!
UPDATE after two years of use.
I can now reconfirm that these battery tenders work great I've had them hooked up continuously on two cars that stay in the garage a lot and I've NEVER had them not start right up. A quick glance at the LED display lets me know that the batteries are either charging or fully charged. It's a real pleasure to be able to go right up and enjoy your wheels without having to worry about whether the battery is dead. I can't say for sure, but I suspect that it lengthens the life of the battery as well. This little gizmo is dynamite.
I have a 4 year old Accord that, due to circumstance, only has about 4400 miles. Rarely driven...and what driving is done is mostly at night.
Sat for a week once in very cold weather...dead battery.
Ordered this. Hooked it up. 100% charge and the battery is very powerful once again.( had thought I would probably need a new one).
It's very small size makes it extremely easy to use and store. And it will not overcharge, so you do not have to babysit the process.
It's LEDs glow red when charging. Green and red blink once 80% has been achieved. Solid green at 100%.
It did, in very cold weather, take a long time to establish a full charge on my almost completely discharged battery. The battery would have been usable in a few hours, but 100% took close to 18.
Highly recommended.

I have an older version of this charger that I bought in the mid 90's. I used it to maintain my garaged Mustang's battery over the winter months for many years. I made a cigarette lighter adapter so all I needed to do was to plug it in instead of using the alligator clips. I have to say this thing is dead reliable! It always kept my battery in prime condition. I love it and recommend it highly.Read Best Reviews of Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger Here
I recently purchased a Deltran Battery Tender Plus (they are made in China) battery charger for a total cost of $63.30. It has never worked correctly from the first day I got it. It charges great, but it never goes into the "storage" mode, or notifies you that the battery is at 80% charged. It apparently just keeps charging the battery whether it needs it or not.I contacted Deltran's "technical" department a few times about the problem, and told them that I suspected the charger was faulty, but they kept telling me it was the battery, or "check this" or "check that" or "the weather was too cold" (in Florida), even though I had told them the battery was new. So, figuring they knew what they were talking about, I purchased another brand new battery at the cost of $79.92.
I left the "new" battery on this charger for a few days, and it was the same thing as the "old" battery. The charger never showed a full charge or went into storage mode.
So now that the equipment that this battery is from has been out of service for a couple of weeks, (because Deltran recommended I remove the battery from the equipment since I was having a problem charging it), and I couldn't afford to fiddle around any longer, I bought a competitors battery charger for $46.45, and as it turns out after connecting the new charger, within a matter of a few minutes both the "old" and the "new" batteries showed fully charged, and the new (competitors) charger went into "storage" mode with no problem.
Now that I knew for sure that this Deltran Battery Tender Plus charger was not working properly, I reviewed the Battery Tender Plus "LIMITED" 10 year warranty, and found out they (Deltran) wants a $9.95 "handling" fee (if you have had the charger over 90 days), and if you have the original sales receipt, if you want to send it in for repair.
If you don't have the original receipt, then it is a $15.95 "handling" fee no matter how long you have had it.
Having wasted about 2weeks fiddling with 2different batteries and 2different chargers all because the Deltran Battery Tender Plus did not work correctly in the first place, I am not about to spend another $15.95 "handling" fee (because I don't have the original receipt) plus shipping (maybe $10.00) to return it to Deltran for exchange/repair, and then wait another week or two to get the charger back and have to hope that it now works correctly.
Deltran also told me that since I did not buy the Battery Tender Plus in question directly from them, I would need to send it back to where I originally purchased it. Not having the original receipt (because I bought it someplace online and don't remember where), I asked Deltran what's the difference where I purchased it since they (Deltran) are the manufacturer and supply the warranty as well, and I was told that "it is the same as trying to return a Chevrolet to a Ford dealership". That I don't understand, because if a person has a problem with a Chevrolet, they can take it to any Chevy dealer in the country and have it fixed (and maybe any GM dealer).
They also said in so many words that I should have known sooner that the charger was defective, which must mean that their "technical" department is not fully competent to be advising anyone, and that I should have not paid any attention to their suggested remedies in the first place.
Because of the investment of time and money I now have in this Battery Tender Plus, and the poor "technical" support I received from Deltran, I would never buy another one and would not recommend it to anyone else. Their 10 year "LIMITED" warranty is also a joke. Battery Tender PlusSucks! It should be called Battery Tender Negative!.
Want Battery Tender 021-0128 Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger Discount?
I bought one, for my own use and spent much time reading Deltran's website, and the finally the info that came with the Deltran unit.Over all, Works well, made well (vented metal case). I've been testing it on a 55ah AGM.
I have a lot of background in battery chargers. Based on my review of the unit I bought, I wanted to maybe offer some general practical help for those that can't find all the info they need for guidance before they but such a product.
The price at Amazon makes it worth it, but not list at the OEM's site. The OEM list price is pricey for the Battery Tender Plus, the Battery Tender Jr is about 1/2 (based on the OEM price), and can take care of much of the same duties.
While I've read all I could from their site, all their advertising pre-sale doesn't warn that it may not charge a large cell that has been properly discharged. Once I bought my Battery Tender Plus, I found liteature comes with the charger that warns you of this..
I figured as much and bought it as a compliment to my smart bulk chargers that aren't good maintainers. The reason.......
If the power is interrupted on any of my bulk chargers, they don't come back to the correct profile, just the profile for 2amp charge for a wet cell general. Not the AGM profile.
The Deltran being a dedicated maintainer doesn't suffer from this problem.
If the power was to be cycled, it would just go through it's profile again. And since it's such low current, no harm.
These Tenders are Great for when the bulk charger is taken care else where on the larger RV, boat, or secondary car battery. Your primary car battery is charged by the alternator, and when you store the car you need to take care of the self discharge issue and any parasitic loads that will discharge your car's battery while in storage... the Battery Tender Plus is great for that.
As well as the Battery Tender Jr, if you have very little or no parasitic loads.
(if your parasitic loads are too great, you may need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle for storage if the parasitic drain/loads comes close to the tender's rating, it wont do it's job and your battery wont be a happy battery)
I've been testing the Battery Tender Plus on my optima AGM, and on maintenance float, the battery is only pulling a .01a at 13.2vdc. Just right. The profile was just about perfect, per optima's spec and other AGM's spec, and perfect for wet cells (normal car batteries).
If you have larger parasitic loads, the Battery Tender Plus (1.25a) will be a better choice. But if you pull your battery lead of have little or no parasitic loads, the Battery Tender Jr will work well and save you money over the Battery Tender Plus.
(Again, remember if your parasitic loads are too great, you may need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle for storage if the parasitic drain/loads comes close to the tender's rating, it wont do it's job and your battery wont be a happy battery)
For a motorcycle battery, the Battery Tender Plus is probably the end all charger.
But for the larger batteries, neither Tender will serve as a bulk charger. To protect your battery investment, get a good smart bulk charger (not the cheapo dumb bulk chargers) with the right profiles, and use the Deltan Battery Tender Plus or Battery Tender Jr for storage.
After the testing I've done (monitored and recorded voltage, current, and temps to see what the profiles are of the chargers), for my storage use, I could have gotten away with the Battery Tender Jr @.75a, for my storage "tender" of a single 55ah optima agm battery.

Odyssey PC680-P Battery

One thing to note, this battery does not come with the posts (terminals) in the picture. Shame on you Amazon. Show a picture of what you sell. The posts are available for around $10. Also, the battery is cheaper at the website I ordered the first PC680 from, . I should have checked there first. I would have saved over $10.I have used these batteries for years. They are as strong as a regular battery, yet much smaller and lighter. Most of the poor reviews here turn on the fact that terminals are extra which I understand. Let me be clear you will not be disappointed with the actual battery.

OptiMate 3+ battery saving charger-maintainer

when a 2 year old battery would not start the bike after being charged/tended. The light
on the Tender said it was fully charged but it wasn't. Having read a review on some of the
new charges decided on the Optimate 3+ Motorcycle Battery Charger. So far it fixed two batteries
that were in bikes and recovered two older ones that were waiting for a trip to the recycling center.
It's the best I have yet to use!I had a 2 year old motorcycle battery sitting on a shelf waiting to be recycled when I purchased this. I threw it on there for a day and came back to a fully charged battery.
9/1/12
I am notoriously bad at keeping my battery plugged in but this thing keeps them alive. I am a very light rider and so my bike sits around a lot and battery is almost always dead. This unit has never had an issue recovering and making the battery like new.
Pros:
Price
Reliability
Works great
Cons:
The display lights don't tell you anything

Great charger / maintainer!!! I have gone through two top quality motorcycle batteries in the last few years. My local Yamaha shop suggested this product to keep my battery always charged up. The charger maintains the battery at full charge without the risk of overcharging it. From what I understand now, letting the battery sit for weeks/months to the point of dyeing is extremely hard on them. The light indicators on this are very handy. These lights will let you know when the system is idle, trickle charging, deep charging, and trying to recover a really messed up battery when possible.

Let me start by saying this is the exact same product as the Honda Optimate 3+ charger that sells for $75 at the dealership. The charger is completely automatic and lets you know what its doing and the state of the battery at all times. I recently had to make a 100 mile trip back to the dealership with what appared to be electrical system problem. The battery tested fine and indicated it was fully charged and would hold a charge with my other motorcycle battery charger. Drove over 2.5 hours to find out the battery had a shorted cell. This will never be a problem again with this charger. Total diagnostic and testing program will bring old sulphated batteries back to life. Easy to follow instructions and comes with clamp and screw on connectors.Want OptiMate 3+ battery saving charger-maintainer Discount?
I don't know if it'll cure all batteries, but it brought a battery back from the dead on my John Deere mower.Hopefully, it'll save two other batteries I need to hook up, but technically it already paid for itself by saving me from having to go into town and pay twice the amount for a new battery.
If you are going out into the middle of nowhere 100+ miles and need a dependable battery for your ATV, common sense will tell you to just go get a new battery every three or four years like I do, but this deal seems to do the trick on batteries that need to be starting welders, mowers & other neglected batteries around the farm, ranch or meth lab. :)
I noticed they bumped their price up since I bought mine.
The instructions were a little vague, but just looking for the green light to stay on may suffice.
There may be better ones out there, but I'd buy this one again.
Comapre prices, if you have the time.

Verbatim AA Power Bank Charger 97928

The tricky part of using this device is getting the battery cover back on after you install the batteries. Other reviewers have already mentioned that it's very difficult to determine the correct battery orientation the markings inside the battery compartment are virtually unreadable under any lighting conditions due to reflections from the glossy black plastic case. But what is worse is trying to slide the cover back on, getting it set correctly in its grooves, while keeping the batteries compressed down on their spring connections. It took me so many tries that I almost gave up on ever being able to try out the charging capability the cover either just slid off, or went on crooked, or didn't snap into place completely. I was afraid I was going to break it before I would ever get it put back on correctly.
The picky part is that the unit seems to only work with the newest, freshest batteries you can possibly find. I put in a set of Duracell alkalines that were guaranteed fresh until 2017 and only got a 5% test recharge out of them before the unit's LED turned red indicating that the battery charges were too low to be used then the LED refused to light at all implying that the batteries were drained. However, all of them subsequently tested fine on a battery charge tester and worked fine in a flashlight. I tried another set with the same 2017 date and this time the LED lit up blue, indicating that they were good, but as soon as I plugged in my phone to charge, the LED changed immediately to red and shortly thereafter turned off and charging stopped. However, the batteries again tested fine and worked fine in a flashlight. I finally tried a set of batteries with a fresh through 2022 date and they actually worked I was able to charge my HTCThunderbolt from 46% to 97% over the course of an hour or so (sorry I didn't pay attention to the time). After that, the charger indicated that the batteries were drained but once again, they tested just fine with a battery tester and worked fine in a flashlight.
Bottom line, this charger does actually work and will re-charge a phone, but only if you have super fresh AA batteries to put into it and even then it won't drain them completely, so they'll be usable for other purposes afterwards, but just not to keep charging your phone like you'd want or expect. It's what you'd expect. It takes your choice of 4 AA batteries (rechargeable/not included of course) and has a female USB jack to charge your stuff. Has a nice on/off switch that glows blue when on. The + battery labeling could be better but whatever, you'll figure it out. Works great with my iphone 4 when I'm camping without mains for a few days. I'd give it 5 stars if were $9.99 but it's not so, 4 stars.
Buy Verbatim AA Power Bank Charger 97928 Now
So, I thought it would be nice to have something like this. i.e., a device that takes 2 or 4 high capacity AA batteries, and, with the help of a simple circuit board to boost and regulate the voltage, to provide a nice charging current for my smart phone. I noticed there were three price points for this type of device: There's one that's only like $3 or $4, then there's one that's around $10-$12 that I saw on another site, then there's this one by well-respected Verbatim on the top end. It was clear from reviews that the cheap one needed some slight mods to be useful, and the mid priced one seemed to have some reviews saying it was "cheaply constructed". So, I said, WTH, I'll just buy the "good" one.My thinking on buying a device like this: I play a lot of long poker tournaments, and it's just not really possible to get a charge in on the phone in the middle of the Venetian or other casinos. It would be helpful if I had a backup to charge my phone.
I think if I could do it over, I'd buy the one that costs about half as much as the Verbatim one. The device is all plastic, I sort of expected maybe I would have something a little more sturdy if I got the Verbatim one, but I didn't. It does have a pretty pimp blue and red LED light around the port (indicating a "good" charge remaining, versus a "nearly dead" charge), so maybe I paid an $8 premium for pimp LED.
A lot of people complained that the cheaper devices got hot under load. This one does not--it barely warmed up at all whilst charging. Clearly, the output is steady voltage, even as the batteries discharge, and I popped her up on an oscilloscope under load, and they've clearly made a decent circuit here. I put four 1600 mAh tenergy premium NiMH batteries in here, and I got just about one solid charge on my Samsung Epic. Maybe a little more.
The device is about exactly the shape of a lipstick tube, plus 50% in all dimensions. It comes with a very short (4 inches maybe) microUSB to USB cable, which apparently has the data pins shorted out (this is normal and necessary for high speed charging). I don't know if the device USB jack has the pins shorted, or if the cable did, I didn't check it; if it is the latter, then the cable that comes with this should not be used in a computer USB jack since it will draw more than 500 mA rating.
All in all, I'm happy with it, it does what I expected...I think though that I would have been 90% as happy with the devices out there that cost half as much.
There is an admonition in the instructions that says NOT to use it on an iPad. I am not sure why--maybe you can't get a full charge. But, it will definitely charge your smart phone. The other guy that dropped a 1-star rating on this because of the iPad thing, that's really out of line, since the device otherwise appears well enough constructed, and does its job.

This charger works with Alkaline and NiMH batteries but is NOT compatible with Energizer Lithium L91's. This is a major bummer as I wanted a charger that I could keep in my car long term for emergencies. Alkalines will leak and NiMH will eventually self discharge over long periods so I thought this would be the perfect solution when loaded with Energizer L91s. Wrong. I think the overall voltage when using 4 Energizer lithiums in series becomes too high and triggers some sort of protection cutoff. I tried with both the Energizer 9x and 4x lithiums and they both failed. The charger works great with Eneloop 2000 mahs (almost 100%). I can barely get from 0 to 40% on new Duracell alkalines. I guess that's still better than nothing if needed.
No problem with the battery cover as reported in other reviews. Just need to carefully line up and slide in with steady pressure. There are no springs and loose metal parts to bend or damage (which is what I thought.)Charges up your iPhone to about 40% on 4 AA batteries. Very handy when you're on the road or camping or that type of situation. Love this thing. Batteries can be found anywhere as opposed to the USB devices that must be charged.

Too Hot For VegasI bought this charger because I switched from the iPhone to Droid and needed a charger ASAP. This one was on amazon prime and it wasn't the cheapest, ( it was the second cheapest) so I figured it was ok.
Technically The charger worked great it charged the phone fast.
However, in about a month after owning it; it broke in half at the seams so all the wires showed. The charger stilled worked but I didn't feel safe having exposed wires hangs out of it in the car. So I trashed it and bought a different charger and so far the other charger has worked for 6 months and counting.
If you need something quick, fast, and cheap this is the charger for you. However, don't plan on keeping the charger forever. It is a cheap charger, it works but isn't going to last for years. I think the main reason it might have broke to be honest with you is the heat from vegas. The heat might have warped the case and then when I pulled it out of the car plug it split in half. If I lived someplace cooler it might still be in one part.
Pro.
Cheap
Got the Job done ie it charged the phone
Fast Shipping ( got it in 2 days)
Cons.
It was cheap broke quickly

Used this car charger for about two weeks and the connector to the phone came apart when I took it out. Simply pulled on it. No twisting. No yanking. It's cheap and that's all it is worth.I purchased a few of these for my cars and my son's car (he has the same phone). They work great and add to my growing mass of car chargers. Why can't manufacturers use a common charger since no one in their right mind would pay for the overpriced manufacturer's charger anyway?Tuesday, April 22, 2014

HQRP Solar 10A Charge Power Controller / Regulator 12V / 24V 10 Amp with LED Indicator plus HQRP UV

good screw terminal connections
connections for the solar panel, a battery, AND (this is key) a device you want to hook up TO the solar/battery system.
This last point is awesome it provides a no-brainer way to hook up a device to a regulated / protected solar /battery system, and allows you to use the battery for power when the sun goes down or during cloudy periods in fact, the system automatically delivers power from the battery as needed.
Also critical is a Low Voltage Disconnect for a solar fountain project, I first used another product without the LVD my battery was drained completely overnight, and batteries discharged 100% can't be recharged easily (they register as an open circuit or cause other problems). This unit takes away that worry.
The unit has a switch on it so you can turn on/off the device you're powering right from the unit.
The unit seems to be designed for rural electrification (i.e. remote villages in india needing electric lights at night). It has a conformal coating on the circuit board (anti-rust).
For me, I combined a 500 gph Rule bilge pump, this unit, a 30 watt 12 volt solar panel, and a cheap $35 12 volt tractor battery and I have an AWESOME solar fountain. I'm pretty psyched on this device, and just ordered 2 more. This device does what it says. Has good indicator lights for status and good quality pinch-screw connectors.
There is one point I wanted to mention. IT MATTERS the order in which you hook up the connections to the battery, load, panel, etc.
Follow the instructions on the little booklet. If you hook up out of sequence, the unit will lock up and not run until it is completely unhooked and then powered up correctly!I was initially very disappointed with the instructions. The were a low-quality photocopy of condensed instructions and were also reduced 50%.
Another review mentioned hooking up the wires in the proper order being critical well, you can't ever read that part of the booklet because of the lower quality and tiny print.
I visited HQRP.com and made use of their contact form to request a PDF of the instructions and I also made use of their real-time customer support chat. The agent on the chat was able to send me a PDF of the full-size instructions (4 8.5x11 pages). Later that day, I also received a response to their contact form. I was impressed that both forms of customer support received a response.
The correct order is:
(-) Battery
(+) Battery (Battery LED comes on)
(-) Solar panel

(+) LoadOur Honda civic is not driven enough to keep the battery full charged. After killing a replacement battery in six months, due to sulfation, I built a charger around the HQRP solar charge regulator.
There is no way to plug in a conventional charger, so I assembled a 16 volt battery pack, with current limiting resistors, to drive the HQRP regulator without exceeding it's 10 amp rating. The output of the regulator is connected to the car battery through a 30 Amp fuse as recommended, with clips. After the car battery tops off in four hours I bring the battery pack back to the apartment and recharge it.
Powering the HQRP regulator from a predictable power supply gave a unique opportunity to study it,s charging characteristics.
First it charges at full power until 14.4 volts is reached, then it applies an equalizing charge at 14.6 to 14.7 volts long enough to equalize the six cells in the battery but not produce significant hydrogen. Thus water is not depleted.
After full charge is reached it goes into a float charge mode holding the battery at 13.2 to 13.9 volts.
This is a pulse charger so it prevents and over many hours reverses sulfation, provided it is not severe. No load resting battery voltage increased from 12.4 volts to 12.8 volts. These readings were made with the battery at 70 80 degrees F.
UPDATE NOV 22 / 2011: With the arrival of cold weather I was able to verify that the temperature compensation works. Recently on a cold night with heavy frost the float charge settled at 14.5 volts with 40 mA current to the battery being charged. This is right on target voltage and current wise. Now I am even more happy with this excellent product.
This is a superb product for the price that was designed with a full knowledge of lead acid battery charging.
More aggressive desulfators can be purchased or built from kits, but these should not be used on a battery when it is connected to the car's electronics.
My long term plan is to get a 2 or 3 Amp solar panel that will fit in the car windshield, but these high efficiency panels are rather expensive.
Update: May 21, 2013. Still working perfectly.
