Verbatim AA Power Bank Charger 97928

Verbatim AA Power Bank Charger 97928I bought the AA battery powered version of this charger after having had to rely on the generosity of a neighbor with a generator to keep my phone charged during the 4 days I was without power after hurricane Sandy. I had a single AA-powered charger that I had picked up as an impulse purchase at TJ Maxx that was pretty much totally useless, but I liked the idea of a battery-powered charger and figured that capacity (number of batteries) was the real issue.

The tricky part of using this device is getting the battery cover back on after you install the batteries. Other reviewers have already mentioned that it's very difficult to determine the correct battery orientation the markings inside the battery compartment are virtually unreadable under any lighting conditions due to reflections from the glossy black plastic case. But what is worse is trying to slide the cover back on, getting it set correctly in its grooves, while keeping the batteries compressed down on their spring connections. It took me so many tries that I almost gave up on ever being able to try out the charging capability the cover either just slid off, or went on crooked, or didn't snap into place completely. I was afraid I was going to break it before I would ever get it put back on correctly.

The picky part is that the unit seems to only work with the newest, freshest batteries you can possibly find. I put in a set of Duracell alkalines that were guaranteed fresh until 2017 and only got a 5% test recharge out of them before the unit's LED turned red indicating that the battery charges were too low to be used then the LED refused to light at all implying that the batteries were drained. However, all of them subsequently tested fine on a battery charge tester and worked fine in a flashlight. I tried another set with the same 2017 date and this time the LED lit up blue, indicating that they were good, but as soon as I plugged in my phone to charge, the LED changed immediately to red and shortly thereafter turned off and charging stopped. However, the batteries again tested fine and worked fine in a flashlight. I finally tried a set of batteries with a fresh through 2022 date and they actually worked I was able to charge my HTCThunderbolt from 46% to 97% over the course of an hour or so (sorry I didn't pay attention to the time). After that, the charger indicated that the batteries were drained but once again, they tested just fine with a battery tester and worked fine in a flashlight.

Bottom line, this charger does actually work and will re-charge a phone, but only if you have super fresh AA batteries to put into it and even then it won't drain them completely, so they'll be usable for other purposes afterwards, but just not to keep charging your phone like you'd want or expect.

It's what you'd expect. It takes your choice of 4 AA batteries (rechargeable/not included of course) and has a female USB jack to charge your stuff. Has a nice on/off switch that glows blue when on. The + battery labeling could be better but whatever, you'll figure it out. Works great with my iphone 4 when I'm camping without mains for a few days. I'd give it 5 stars if were $9.99 but it's not so, 4 stars.

So, I thought it would be nice to have something like this. i.e., a device that takes 2 or 4 high capacity AA batteries, and, with the help of a simple circuit board to boost and regulate the voltage, to provide a nice charging current for my smart phone. I noticed there were three price points for this type of device: There's one that's only like $3 or $4, then there's one that's around $10-$12 that I saw on another site, then there's this one by well-respected Verbatim on the top end. It was clear from reviews that the cheap one needed some slight mods to be useful, and the mid priced one seemed to have some reviews saying it was "cheaply constructed". So, I said, WTH, I'll just buy the "good" one.

My thinking on buying a device like this: I play a lot of long poker tournaments, and it's just not really possible to get a charge in on the phone in the middle of the Venetian or other casinos. It would be helpful if I had a backup to charge my phone.

I think if I could do it over, I'd buy the one that costs about half as much as the Verbatim one. The device is all plastic, I sort of expected maybe I would have something a little more sturdy if I got the Verbatim one, but I didn't. It does have a pretty pimp blue and red LED light around the port (indicating a "good" charge remaining, versus a "nearly dead" charge), so maybe I paid an $8 premium for pimp LED.

A lot of people complained that the cheaper devices got hot under load. This one does not--it barely warmed up at all whilst charging. Clearly, the output is steady voltage, even as the batteries discharge, and I popped her up on an oscilloscope under load, and they've clearly made a decent circuit here. I put four 1600 mAh tenergy premium NiMH batteries in here, and I got just about one solid charge on my Samsung Epic. Maybe a little more.

The device is about exactly the shape of a lipstick tube, plus 50% in all dimensions. It comes with a very short (4 inches maybe) microUSB to USB cable, which apparently has the data pins shorted out (this is normal and necessary for high speed charging). I don't know if the device USB jack has the pins shorted, or if the cable did, I didn't check it; if it is the latter, then the cable that comes with this should not be used in a computer USB jack since it will draw more than 500 mA rating.

All in all, I'm happy with it, it does what I expected...I think though that I would have been 90% as happy with the devices out there that cost half as much.

There is an admonition in the instructions that says NOT to use it on an iPad. I am not sure why--maybe you can't get a full charge. But, it will definitely charge your smart phone. The other guy that dropped a 1-star rating on this because of the iPad thing, that's really out of line, since the device otherwise appears well enough constructed, and does its job.

This charger works with Alkaline and NiMH batteries but is NOT compatible with Energizer Lithium L91's. This is a major bummer as I wanted a charger that I could keep in my car long term for emergencies. Alkalines will leak and NiMH will eventually self discharge over long periods so I thought this would be the perfect solution when loaded with Energizer L91s. Wrong. I think the overall voltage when using 4 Energizer lithiums in series becomes too high and triggers some sort of protection cutoff. I tried with both the Energizer 9x and 4x lithiums and they both failed.

The charger works great with Eneloop 2000 mahs (almost 100%). I can barely get from 0 to 40% on new Duracell alkalines. I guess that's still better than nothing if needed.

No problem with the battery cover as reported in other reviews. Just need to carefully line up and slide in with steady pressure. There are no springs and loose metal parts to bend or damage (which is what I thought.)

It was a bit of a struggle to open the tomtom after removing (6) screws using very small torque screw driver bit but very easy to replace the battery once opened. This stopped blowing the 25amp fuse in my car when plugged in and I also get a full battery charge again when using the home AC outlet charging unit. A lot cheaper than buying a new GPS.

NOCO Genius GC002 Eyelet Terminal Connector

NOCO Genius GC002 Eyelet Terminal ConnectorI already have the genius and bought this connector for my motorcycle in the winter months the first one is on my wife's bike. We can just pull this out from under our seats and charge them up if it's to cold to go for a ride for weeks at a time. Buy the genius this unit has helped out on our vehicles many times. Thanks Bear

I purchase the extra set of permanent eyelet connectors because it makes charging me and my wife's motorcycles a lot easier with my NOCO Genius G750 6V/12V 750mA Fully Automatic Battery Charger and Maintainer (Grey). The charger comes with one set of these connectors and one set of clamps, but for $10 you can beat having the second set of permanent connections. The charger and connectors were delivered fast and worked great.

Samsung ECS-K1E1BEGSTA Car mount kit for SGH-I717 with Suction Holder, Dashpad and Car Charger - Re

Samsung ECS-K1E1BEGSTA Car mount kit for SGH-I717 with Suction Holder, Dashpad and Car Charger - Retail Packaging - BlackI'll keep it simple.

fit like a glove.

when phone is docked, it defaults to 'Voice talk' profile until changed

3.5mm audio out, when docked audio default to output until changed in settings

dedicated power port

included dc power cord (4 feet)

strong suction

comes with dash plate

one issue...if phone in direct sunlight...dock and phone get very hot.

Another issue...if using Samsung cover it barely fits in the dock.

The base and suction cup are great quality and attaches nicely. I was looking for a mount for a Galaxy Note 2 and this one came up and appeared to fit the bill. When I got it mounted, the Note 2 didn't fit well. You have to angle it just right in order for it to charge properly. I have already gotten rid of the packaging so can't send it back and had to buy another one. I don't know if it is designed for the Note 1 and the changes were just subtle enough to make the mount not suited for the Note 2. Shame on me for not keeping the packaging, but a little disappointed that the description was misleading.

Buy Samsung ECS-K1E1BEGSTA Car mount kit for SGH-I717 with Suction Holder, Dashpad and Car Charger - Re Now

The good:

1. The sliding micro USB connector connects and disconnects from the device very easily.

2. Many apps have functionality that is only activated when dock connector is engaged (eg. Spotify actually switches to landscape orientation).

3. The phone fits the mount perfectly, and looks nice mounted on the dash.

The bad:

1. There is very annoying interference from the car engine when using the audio out from the dock. I tried two chargers (including the official Samsung car adapter), and two audio cables, thinking it may be a grounding issue, but the interference remains. My Kensington LiquidAUX Bluetooth hands-free/charger has no interference at all, so I have to suspect this dock is at fault.

2. The package did NOT include the mounting plate that was advertised.

3. The suction cup doesn't adhere to any surface (including the glass) for longer than 15 minutes without falling off. The mounting plate would probably solve this had it been included. I was uncomfortable leaving my phone in the unit for fear it would take fall damage, until I worked around it by milling two channels through the base with a Dremel tool, and driving two bolts directly through it and into my dash, mounting it very securely.

4. The dock angles up and out at a steep angle, and the plastic isn't rigid enough to support the weight of the phone, causing it to shake a great deal while driving. The phone fits so tightly that it's in no danger of falling out, but the rattling noises caused by this are extremely annoying. I fashioned a kick-stand out of a small aluminum rod to solve this, but a product should not require this many workarounds.

Other thoughts:

I can't fault Samsung for their precision engineering on this, but this dock is incompatible with every case I have, including the 0.2mm ultra-thin case I purchased hoping it would fit. If you feel a case is a necessity to protect your camera lens, look for a different dock.

Yaesu VX-3R VHF/UHF DualBand Handheld Amateur HAM Radio Tranceiver!

Yaesu VX-3R VHF/UHF DualBand Handheld Amateur HAM Radio Tranceiver!I am new to HAM but wanted to see what this little guy could do, and not spend a ton of money.

With all hand held radios the problem is the small antenna. I can get ok reception but I live out in the sticks. I hooked up a roll up Jpole and wow. I cant wait to hook it up to a bigger antenna. You can have 100's memory set ups, several ways to scan. Like I said I am new and was a bit worried about all the different settings etc the book tells you step by step. I dont know how to do everything that this guy can do but you will pick up the regular settings easy enough. So far I have picked everything from police bands, EMS, Wendy's drive up, voice of america, voice of cuba, voices of I cant speak it, HAM chat, about 6 weather chans, regular AM/FM. I got all this from the regular antenna and the roll up J pole. This was in just a few days of messing around.

It is easy to travel with this. Throw it in the car, back pack, just a pocket. You can also order an AA battery pack so its easy to power it up if away from a charger.

Only thing not great are the small buttons, thats not a biggie since this thing is just bigger than a pager.

I owned this radio for only a couple of weeks. It has a wide band amplifier that is very susceptible to nearby transmitters. The police were coming in stronger than the frequency I was tuned to. It was a common problem whenever I was within a few miles of a tv or fm transmitter. If you're out in the boonies you may not have this problem, but near a city you may find your signal to noise ratio to be less than 1 a lot of the time. Not for me. I replaced it with an FT60, which works fine.

Buy Yaesu VX-3R VHF/UHF DualBand Handheld Amateur HAM Radio Tranceiver! Now

I am a new ham and wanted a small affordable H/T eto begin with. The AM / FM broadcast bands come in clear as well as the local WX bands. I just passed my Tech test and am eagerly awaiting my call sign so that I can test the TX and RX features. Will updat when I have a chance to do this. 4 stars so far for what I can use.

I have already a vx7r and a vx6 ( both of which are more powerful units). This is a very small ht with pretty good rx and tx the rx is a few bars off of my other vx hts, but considrering the small size and the price point I'm happy with the unit. AD7TX out.

Power button not functioning properly, have only had it for just over three weeks.

Design of device is wrong, the windshield attachment device interfers with either the power port or the power button so that it is not possible to have both the power port and the power button clear, you have to pick which side of the device you want the turn knob located to free up either the port or the power button but you can't have both at the same time.

Software programing is worthless, does not have GPS integration, in fact, to my knowledge, there is no way to integrate the GPS data with the video data. A GPS text file is created, good luck on actually using it. Directions were worthless.

Since I am not able to return the device I am stuck with it. Do your homework and get a device that has good software integration and has all the function buttons/ports accessible.

Finally, device needs to be told when to switch to infrared, this is annoying as it should be smarter and know based on programming.

It's a nice camera, pretty small and easy to handle. The video is nice, clear, continuous, a bit washy maybe. The bad parts: battery lasts a little over 30 minutes and GPS doesn't work. You better keep the camera plugged in and if you don't mind driving with a wire hanging in front of you while charging, it's a good camera. Let's say I recommend it.

PS. I don't know why, but the clarity of the video uploaded to Amazon is way worse than the original. I will post a link from YouTube.

JR Products 48315 White Deluxe Assist Handle

JR Products 48315 White Deluxe Assist HandleI purchased JR Products 48315 Deluxe White Assist Handle from Amazon in the fall of 2010, but didn't install it on my travel trailer until the spring of 2011. It was easy to install drill 4 holes and attach with screws/flat washers (not included) and served its purpose well, but unfortunately it only lasted a few months. Although the mounting screws remain securely fastened to the trailer, the ends of the handle where it touches the side of the trailer (top and bottom) are cracking and the handle itself is pulling away from the trailer. If it lasted a few years I would have ordered another as a replacement. But apparantly the quality of the plastic isn't up to the task, so I'll have to shop for a better quality handle.

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter
  • 2500 W Continuous Power Handling
  • 5v USB output
  • 3Grounded AC Receptacles
  • Thermal Shutdown and Reverse Polarity Protection
  • LED volt/watt meter and remoter on/ off capable

Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor.

Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones.

First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet!

Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either!

How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter.

This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea.

Buy Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter Now

To all the people who have issues in getting full or high wattage out of this or any other unit: you MUST have thick (#4) and short (3-4ft) 12v cables to your battery bank. Otherwise the inverter will be starved for current and cause the "low voltage protection" to kick in. Make sure your battery/ bank are up to the task as well.

This unit works great for me. I tested it with combination's of differing equipment (electric chainsaw, power saw, A/C unit, refrigerator, electric heating unit). No problems for me. Do your homework before giving out 1 star reviews people...

We have alot of experience with inverters, and this inverter is just average. It does produce quite a bit of power, but we seem unable to run both of our energy efficient freezers simulatneously (about 1.7 amps draw each freezer --200watts). Also, it does not come with cables to attach it to the batteries, so expect to buy those too. Lastly, and most importantly is the noise. The inverter cooling fan starts up at even the smallest load, and it is loud. As more load is applied the cooling fan ramps up louder and louder. It is not so loud as to hurt your ears, but it is loud enough to be annoying and to heard throughout whatever room it is in, so I recommend you buy the remote start if you choose to buy this unit. Locate it in a closet or shed so you don't have to listen to it.

We have had other inverters that cost much less, but of course only 1200 Watts of power, that had NONE of the shortcomings of this one (our old 1200 Watt model simultaneously ran both freezers, T.V. VCR, DVD player, speakers, and lights; it came with a connector cable, and its fan was quiet and only came on during high loads). The reason we purchased this one is because all the previous inverters, although quiet and efficient, eventually died, and we hoped that this one could handle the peak loads better.

9 April 2009: Just a brief update. At this point in time the inverter is useless, the cooling fans quit working so I am hesitant to use if for fear of a fire (that happened with another inverter several years ago). To be fair, we used that inverter nearly every day at times for up to 12 hours straight. But it never did meet our expectations, and now we are looking for replacement.

I purchased this for my semi-truck. The inverter requires 2 sets of 4 awg wire. I soldered my ends first and used heavy duty ends for the battery contacts. The cables are 3'9" long.(Cobra said no more than 4') I tried to overload this inverter with a 6hp shop-vac and could not. The remote for me is a must but the remote is another story. If you are looking for an inverter that will power just about anything, I highly recommend this one. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that the length of the power cables limits where the inverter can be placed. All other aspects of this inverter are very impressive. As a side note, I use this inverter for a microwave in my truck,(among other things)and the modified sine wave is no problem at all.

i have recently purchased the inverter 2575 by cobra. i installed it into my car and it runds great. i found the inverter to be smaller than expected and was able to install it into the dash of my car.

The instructions for the inverter are clear and precise, however i am still unsure it i can run it with the engine on. I also used the cables that were recommended 4000W for around $30.00 it was by far the cheapest around. Be careful when installing the inverter, i took almost the entire 10feet to get from the battery to the dash via the left hand front guard.

from an earlier "feedback" they said the inverter made quite abit of noise, i mesured it at around 55Db from one foot. which isn't all that loud but if you were running a fridge all the time and the inverter was close to you it would get annoying. I use it for a 800W microwave, it has plenty of power left o could run a tv and Wii system at the same time.

I recommend it for the price ($200.00)i felt it was a bargin, and they have a support phone number if you get stuck. having it for my ipod is also great.

We had been using a DeWalt 18 volt impact, with mostly success. However, this tool is much more powerful. When running it has heft and torque. You must have strong hands and arms and be ready. This case fit my Roadmate 5045 PERFECTLY. Snug as a bug. The shell has a soft feel to it but is rigid. I would trust it to protect my GPS in everyday situations. The zippers concern me. They feel balky but may smooth out over time. The power cord seems like a dollar store product and did not charge well. It worked with some jiggling but not enough to utilize. I'm tossing it. Case looked good and should serve its purpose.

Product arrived on time, it was as described, product was also good, better than other similar products. The bundle is a good deal for the price.

Was very doubtful with the case if it will be soft, but it was hard enough to protect the GPS device. It was fitting my Garmin 2450 LM very well.

Since the product only cost a penny I wasn't expecting much, but I was still disappointed! The connector did not really fit in my phone (which the product description said it was made for), as it wouldn't stay attached even when placed on my center console. So, the phone would not charge when connected in the car unless I held the connector and phone together.

Powerhouse PH2100PRi 2100 Watt 125cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator With Remote S

Powerhouse PH2100PRi 2100 Watt 125cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator With Remote StartPurchased generator because electric start feature, unfortunately any time the generator is cold or has cooled off, it will not start. I have to go out and push the prime bulb several times and crank with the starter motor and hope the battery will last long enough for it to start, but usually it won't. I end up having to pull on the rope starter 20, 30, 40 times before it will start. Once the generator is warmed up, it works as "advertised". I am well into my 60's and can't be pulling on a rope this much. If the manufacturer does not have a "fix" for this problem, I will be returning the unit.

After returning unit to service department for repairs still had starting issues. I replaced the start switch (twice) and battery (once), it continued to have the cold start issue.

Powerhouse has worked with me in trying to resolve the problem and decided to replace the unit with a new one. The new one is working as advertised.

I've had this generator for a few months now, and I love it. I was looking at a Honda eu2000i as well, but this one has more bang for the buck for me. It starts up right away, it's quiet, and I like that it includes several accessories out of the box that you would have to buy separately for the Honda. I have no trouble running things like power tools, my refrigerator, or powering my popup camper. I have not tried running the 13,500 BTU air conditioner on my camper with it though, I suspect the startup current might be a little too much for it. One thing that surprised me about the Honda was that it has a rubber timing belt that's not easily replaced, and they have been known to break. This one has a steel timing chain. I also like that the manuals are well written, and if you're technically inclined, you can download the service manual from Powerhouse for free. That manual is also well written with plenty of photos.

Pros:

Good value for the price

Electric start

Quiet

Includes 12 volt charging cable, extra spark plug, screwdriver and spark plug wrench for routine service, and oil filler bottle

Clean sine wave output and good voltage regulation under load

Cons:

About the only thing I didn't like was the plastic strainer in the fuel tank. Once the fuel level gets below the strainer, you can't see how much fuel is left in the tank. Turns out there's a lot you don't see. The strainer is easily removed though.

My friend owns a Honda portable generator and I wanted to buy one based on his recommendation, but could not afford it! Anyway, I picked up this little baby for about $500 less than the Honda and truly love it despite the other review that says it's hard to start. We had no problem starting it at the RV dealership that I bought it from and I have never had a hard time starting it since. It basically starts like a lawnmower...you have to push that little button to prim the gas, but you need to use common sense here folks...don't push it too much! Anyway, it's very quiet, not as much as the Honda, but it's so hard to tell the difference, it's marginal at best. I use it at RV camp locations and it's great! Love this thing! I even use it to power my paint sprayer in my back yard when my extension cord won't reach the house! You won't regret buying it! I don't!

I wanted to rate this generator because there is not much out there in regards to reviews or other info. I am sure you are considering this generator because you are looking for an alternative to the expensive Honda and Yamaha generator. I was did the same thing and as of right now I am impressed.

This generator compared to the honda is a little louder but not so loud that it will keep you awake or upset you neighbors. The unit is heavier also by about 10-15 pounds, but the trade off for that is the higher output. The honda is a 2000 watt start up and a 1600 watt continious, where as this unit is 2000 watt continious with a 2100 watt start up.

The other upside to this unit over their competitors is the key start and wireless remote start. Both of these function performed flawlessly out of the box. The wireless function will work with the key in the off position as long as the remote switch is enabled. The ability to hook two of these units together to double the output was another feature that I liked, even thought the Honda offers the same thing.

The only semi negative thing I noticed about this unit so far, is the same thing another reviewer stated about the throttle. I noticed while in eco mode that the throttle seemed to surge a bit. Now to be fair with this review, the generator has only about 30 minutes on it and maybe a few ounces of gas burned. I did manage to get the throttle to stabilize by adjusting the mixture screw on the side of the unit. I will readjust after I do the first oil change at 20 hours.

Over all this is a great generator and provides the post bang for your buck. I do not regret my purchase and I will re review if anything changes. I plan on using the unit to power my camper this weekend.

Want Powerhouse PH2100PRi 2100 Watt 125cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator With Remote S Discount?

Only ran the generator for about 5 hours total so far, and it runs fine. It does seem to be stubborn to start when cold. It takes about 4-5 attempts before it will run on its own.

Don't even try to think about starting it in economy mode. It must be in full rpm mode to warm up. It will start remotely when it is finally warm. Worked great at a campground with no hookupsfor 3 days. Not loud at all I watched a movie while it was running right next to the camper.

I did the: oil change after getting home. Hopefully it lasts a long time.

EDIT 1-31-2013:

Well , the generator is VERY hard to get started if it has been sitting. Fresh gas, properly stored, battery charged. Prime like crazy. It just takes a dozen or more attempts to turn over. It tries when there's a lot of gas primed into it, but just for a couple seconds, then stalls. Try again.... Eventually (10 or so minutes of trying ) it will start and warm up and work correctly, but really, it's BRAND NEW!! I will be taking it to a a small engine repair place to see if they can fix it so it starts correctly.

Based on my experience with it I would NOT buy another Powerhouse generator. I will pay the premium for Yamaha or Honda because I WANT IT TO START!!!

EDIT 2-7-2013:

So after paying $56 to a True Value Rental store, they claim that the hard satrting problems were simply caused some "debris" , water and varnish gumming up the carburetor jets and the bowl. I am not convinced, as the gas is always stabilized in my 2.5 gallon fuel can. My lawnmower starts with the same gas with one pull (Honda), and my 15 year old snow blower also starts right up first time using the very same stabilized gas... So in conclusion I think the Powerhouse Generator probably arrived with contamination already from the factory, and they didn't do a good job of cleaningit before shipping. It may have been in a warehouse for who knows how long before I purchased it in September 2011. Anyway, it started right up first try after getting it home, although it was still warm. I will let it sit a week and try again to see what happens.

EDIT 6-18-2013:

Well, it still is hard to start. Forget about using the electric start if the generator hasn't been run within a coupel hours previous to trying. It takes significant pull starting ( about 20+ solid fast pulls) before it will satrt. Then after half a minute of warming up, it runs fine. the only reason I have kept this unit and not bough a 2000 watt Honda or Yamaha is because the 2100pri starts and runs my 12,500 btu rooftop A/C on my camper when primitive camping. The decibel level is definitely louder than idle or low wattage usage but tolerable. It is not a noise level you would want to hear if you are tent camping.

I will contact PowerHouse and see if there is a fix, other than replacement of the entire unit. Obviously the True Value hardware store that did the initial "not warranted" work and said bad gas was the problem was wrong.

Powergen 1Amp Combo Car and Travel Wall Charger for desgined for Motorola Droid Razr M Maxx, HTC On

Powergen 1Amp Combo Car and Travel Wall Charger for desgined for Motorola Droid Razr M Maxx, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S4 S3 Note 2 and other Android Phonescar charger surprisingly charges my droid razr to full charge while running as a mobile hotspot in the car for 5 hour drives.

Works well.

.

Two slim chargers and a cable for under 10 bucks. A nice travel solution. Both not-designed-for-Apple units also charge my iPhone at about 90% of full speed.

At 1-amp, tablet charging is slow. See Alternatives below.

PROs:

Nice price

Fast charging of non-Apple phones

Slim, pocket-able, lightweight (AC: 1 oz; CAR: 1/2 oz)

AC: Doesn't block other outlets (see Note 2)

CAR: Blue status light shows charger is getting power

Finish and appearance are good

OKs:

Branded product. Amazon reviews apply to this exact item.

12 month warranty

1 Amp output. Charges tablets at about half speed.

CAR: Length is 1.2" (sticks out about 3/8" to 1/2" from socket)

CAR: Not a very firm grip in socket (see Note 3).

CONs:

None so far

Alternatives -

PowerGen Dual Port USB 3.1 Amp Car Charger

PowerGen Dual Port USB 2.1 Amp AC Charger

Many other brands to choose from

Disclosure -

The manufacturer gave me this product for review. I believe my review is impartial.

Notes -

Note 1: Apple products use their own rules to decide charging speed. A designed-for-Apple charger may be slow to charge non-Apple devices, and vice versa. Full-speed iPad charging requires a larger 2-Amp charger.

Note 2: Blocking other outlets. Seems like small thing, but it can be a hassle. Unplugging hotel room lamps, alarm clocks, etc. to charge your phone? Just say no (or carry an extension cord).

Note 3: Socket fit: It's a little on the loose side. When trying to remove a USB cable, you sometimes pull the whole charger out of the socket instead. Nice travel charger, but less than perfect for everyday use.

CableForge 12v Vehicle Car Charger (Glows blue) for Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 i8160 cell phone coiled st

CableForge 12v Vehicle Car Charger for Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 i8160 cell phone coiled stretch power charger micro USB 4ftI ordered this item as a back up to take to work. The first one was shipped and received in a timely manner, but alas my phone went beserk when I plugged it in. I contacted the seller and they immediately sent out a replacement free of charge. No questions or returns asked. The second unit arrived and I had the same issues, again I contacted the seller about returning the items to them for a refund as I assumed it was my phone causing the issues. They issued a refund without needing the products back, no qualms about it!! Great company!!

keep your battery full!! otherwise when you need it, you wont be able to use it!! have a spare set on your care and/or your travel bag... it is always good!

These cables do the job!

Note 12/FEB/2013: after 30 days using the cables, I did use the car charger less than 10 times, it is getting too hot too quick, when it keeps in the car charger socket, most of the time any road bumps or even if the cell phone moves on the console it would disconnect from the socket and you would have to press it back in, it does not seem to fit well on the car charger socket.

Power Bright PW400-12 Power Inverter 400 Watt 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC

Power Bright PW400-12 Power Inverter 400 Watt 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt ACI manage a field team and have to have my office in the truck. I used to try to have 12 volt adapters for all my gadgets. 12 volt chargers are not usually smart chargers so if you leave your device plugged in beyond the battery's capacity it begins to cook and destroy its ability to hold a charge. Mobile device batteries are expensive, so you don't want to be replacing them unnecessarily. The 110 volt chargers are called smart chargers because they sense when the battery is at peak capacity and dials back to a maintenance level of input. At first I thought a converter would be too bulky but they can rest under a seat nicely or in my case under the drink tray. So there they are, all my adapters all plugged into two power strips with just the device end of the cords sticking up ready for easy access. The printer and laptop plugged into one power strip and everything else plugged into the other power strip. This way I can flip the rocker switch on the power strip not in use disconnecting it and its resident adapters while the other adapters are happily doing their jobs and avoid scuffling around on the floor of the truck trying to plug in the charger I need at the moment. (If you are going to be powering multiple adapters at once, you'll need to pay attention to the total wattage being used.) The added convenience of being able to plug in any transportable household appliance is just icing on the cake. Coffee anyone? (Don't be trying to power a 1000 watt microwave oven. Its an alternative power source for MOBILE battery powered products.) That said, it handles my printer and laptop simultaneously without stressing its capacity. With the Panasonic Toughbook CF29 laptop plugged in alone, the cooling fan doesn't even kick on in the inverter.

Note: The instruction book (yes I actually read them) said you shouldn't leave the converter plugged into your power port unattended as it can drain the car's battery even when the converter is turned off. From experience, I can tell you it only takes about an hour or a little more to deplete my truck's battery if the engine isn't running while this unit is powering my laptop, so...

I originally bought this item to power my laptop or any cellphones on long trips. i could have bought the 200w version or a cheaper power inverter, but i got the 400w as i always like to prepare for the unexpected, and it turns out i can watch a dvd on a nice TV in the trunk of my suv when i go BBQ.

Pros:the blue aluminum outer case provides a great heat dispersion medium, you can tell, touch it after its been running for 5-10 mins

-it isnt too loud with the fan on

it HAS a fan

shuts off when car battery is too low

and the most important: provides alot of power for most application needs.

Cons: -a bit bulky, however, i was able to stash it under the trunk storage

a little more expensive too but you get what you pay for.

ALSO!!! becareful when using with your cig adpater, as it will probably burn your fuse. If you are hooking high amp appliances, connect directly to the battery.

_____

update: Oct. 9, 2010

After a while of using this, i still continue to like it more and more, it has yet to fail me, and provides energy to quite the array of power draining devices i have. You will NOT regret this, i come up with new ways to utilize this all the time, ever play mini portable air hockey on a camping trip?

Buy Power Bright PW400-12 Power Inverter 400 Watt 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC Now

I have multiple inverters to power laptops, camera and other electronic equipment. This PowerBright PW400-12 was purchased at the same time as the Stanley PC509 500W.

The PW400-12 looks good and is quite heavy. The weight is a good thing, generally, as it usually indicates some higher quality components. Under load (i.e., driving two dual-core laptops) it performed well. The unit got quite warm, but the fan was not audible over the sound of the engine.

Though I am very pleased with the unit overall, there are a few wishlist items though:

1) The spacing of the sockets is just a hair closer than I need to insert two 'wall wart' power supplies or a charging unit for a Canon DSLR camera. I carry a power strip with me as a workaround.

2) No USB charger is available. Many cameras and other electronic equipment can be charged via USB. I carry around a USB hub that conveniently charges multiple devices when powered from my laptop. A built in USB plug would be very useful.

Also note that the full 400W capability of this unit cannot be driven by the cigarette lighter. These plugs are typically 100W-120W. Cables are provided for attaching directly to the battery terminals. I did not need the higher wattage and did not test. If you don't anticipate needing the full 400W (800W peak) then you can save some money by going to a lower rated unit.

Read Best Reviews of Power Bright PW400-12 Power Inverter 400 Watt 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC Here

I have 3 different brands of 400w inverters and this is the best one I have. Unlike the other two brands (shhh...no names please), the cooling fan only runs when the unit needs to cool itself off. That is a major selling point to me. I don't like to hear my inverters and those with the fans continuously running usually vibrate and 'buzz' their cases.

I have 3 PB inverters (two 400 and an 1100) and all have performed flawlessly their entire lives. My first 400 is 4 years old now and going camping a dozen times a year. I use it to power a 23watt compact florescent light in camp as well as charge my cell phone, laptop from a deep-cycle battery.

It does what it should do. I charged my laptop on my car. The temperature is cool because the rating of this power supply is 400w and my laptop is less than 100W. But I can not listen audio from my laptop while charging. The switching noise is pretty strong. You can hear the coupled noise from the power supply in the car speakers, and you can not just bear with it. So I had to switch of my laptop while charging, and listen the audio only with the battery on the laptop.
