Virtual Reality Sound Labs Bluetooth Speaker Car Kit

Virtual Reality Sound Labs Bluetooth Speaker Car KitGot this unit as a Christmas gift. Here are some pros & cons in the event you're thinking of purchasing it:

PROS:

IT WORKS!

It sounds GREAT!

It linked up with my Bluetooth phone quickly (I use a Samsung model)!

It's ESPECIALLY handy with voice recognition Bluetooth devices. (I just tell it to call a name in my cellphone directory, and it does the rest!)

The price is reasonable for what this does.

It's one of the few devices of this type that has a big display area for the phone number, HOWEVER...(see CONS below)...

It's easy to operate!

It seems to hold a full charge for a long time period (at least a week so far for me).

CONS:

It only comes with a 30 day warranty!

It needs to be charged for 2-4 hours when the battery drains. The problem is, the ONLY way they suggest you charge it is through your vehicle's cigarette lighter. (No adapter to charge it in our home.) And they suggest NOT charging it when you aren't in your vehicle. I don't know about you, but I seldom drive around town for 2-4 hours. (FYI, I just left it plugged in while I was at home and all worked well.)

The "log" area is supposed to keep track of calls in and out by way of logging them with a 0-5 first digit in front of them so you know which calls were most recent. The unit I have puts no such digit in front of the number. And there are some mysterious numbers in the log I have no idea who they belong to which DO have a #1 in front of all of them. (There are no 0, 2, 3, 4, or 5 numbered calls to be found! All the "mystery" numbers have a "1" in front of them.)

While this unit DOES have a large display area for the number, it's hard to see in bright light.

Hope these PROS/CONS help you to decide if you want to purchase it. Would I buy it again? Yes, I think I would. Mainly because I believe the pros outweigh the cons...especially the fact that it really DOES work for hands-free calling. After all, isn't that why you're REALLY thinking about buying something like this?

Good luck in your decision.

This item was purchased for my son for father's day. He is a person who loves to use his cell phone while driving. My son contacted me upon installation of this item. I was surprised at the clarity in sound. I asked to call him back to see if the clarity would be fine whether receiving or sending a call, it was I am impressed.

Buy Virtual Reality Sound Labs Bluetooth Speaker Car Kit Now

I purchased one of these today at CostCo and tried it out on my way home. It linked up to my Sony Ericson easily but the sound quality was poor. I called my wife who said the sound was not clear but rather muffled sounding. I had the unit mounted on my sun visor about 8" from my face. It also sounded muffled to me over the speaker. We have a Prius which is a quiet car, I was driving 60mph on the freeway. The sound volume was sufficient.

I'm going to return it. Too bad because the idea is great. I actually refrained from purchasing it on the spot yesterday. I came home and read the comments here on Amazon.com, my source of user comments. The comments were largely supportive so I went back today to buy it.

You may want to try it yourself. Who knows I may have purchased a poorly working example.

Battery life is excellent. Sound quality is average. Finally it meets expectation of easy to setup and use device. Value is definitely high keeping in mind one of the lowest prices among the similar devices'.

Want Virtual Reality Sound Labs Bluetooth Speaker Car Kit Discount?

I got this to keep from neding to use my cell phone's speaker mode, which other callers reported as being muffled. This works much better the reports on audio quality are good. Battery life is pretty good too I only need to charge it every few weeks.

Lenmar CAAP6FTG 30-Pin 6-Feet Connector to USB Cable - Retail Packaging - Gray

Lenmar CAAP6FTG 30-Pin 6-Feet Connector to USB Cable - Retail Packaging - Gray
  • Charge/sync Cable
  • Made From Premium Rubberized, Non-tangle Material
  • Double The Length Of The Standard Apple Cable For Convenient Charging
  • 6 Ft
  • Gray

this Lenmar extra long iPod/iPhone/iPad charge and sync cable sold by the 3rd party seller "Battery World" worked fine for the first 60 days, but now has stopped working. The cable has not suffered any rough handling/abuse, has been connected next to my bed for the last 60 days and now just stopped working. Unfortunately the 3rd party seller "Battery World" is using the default Amazon.com returns policy so any hope of getting them to help me expired 30 days ago.

Also, this product page says the cable has a 2 year warranty, that is incorrect. When I visited the Lenmar website, it said that the item only has a 1 year warranty AND you have to pay them $7.50 (or $10; two different prices listed in two different places for the same item); for the cost of return shipping, so since this particular item was purchased for less than $10, I will not be taking advantage of the replacement warranty process.

Guess I will look at a "real" store for a replacement charging cable.

Good sync cable at a reasonable price. Shipped quickly.

A previous 6 ft cable from another vendor failed after 6 months of light use.

This sync cable is convenient and working fine. I like a different colored cable to distinguish between different watt chargers which are hidden under furniture.

I ordered this as a replacement charger for my iPad. I wanted something that was durable, and long enough where I could charge, but use from the bed or table. The price was right for this cable, and I have found that it works quite well. It doesn't tangle and tear like the Apple cords, and it extends just about 6 feet. I would definitely buy this again, and recommend for anyone using the older generation iPods and iPhones, too.

Want Lenmar CAAP6FTG 30-Pin 6-Feet Connector to USB Cable - Retail Packaging - Gray Discount?

The cable works great. I recently had a different 6-foot long cable that had a more plastic end to it which cracked and fell apart on me, but the ends on this cable seem to be much better and should last a long time.

The apple connector connects well, makes a nice click sound and holds. I often use my iPhone or iPad while this cable is plugged in.

I like that it is a different color, so I can tell if anyone whether in the office or at home, borrows (steals) it.

SEE EDIT BELOW!!! I purchased this after my short, factory-supplied Ipad cord bit the dust from being stretched/bent too many times. This one is longer and sturdier. I keep my Ipad in a leather case, and although the piece that fits into the Ipad is a tad bit larger, it slides in with no problem. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and so far am completely happy with the product.

Edit this review: 12 days after my "return purchase window" had ended, this cable quit working, for no apparent reason. When I received this cord I plugged it in to a plug in my family room it never left that plug, I plugged in my Ipad every night to charge it, and yesterday when I unplugged my Ipad to take it with me for the day, it hadn't charged. To be very honest, it never did charge as quickly as my original factory cord, but it didn't matter to me because I just used it for overnight charging, so that wasn't important to me.

Too bad this company can't make a quality product I really liked having the longer cord. Back to using my original cord with an extension cord.... :o(

Samsung Standard Car Power Charger

Samsung Standard Car Power ChargerConsidering Samsung's own website states that it had "quick charging technology", I expected at least an output of 950ma like the other more popular Motorola car charger.

I like to stream Pandora through my phone's Bluetooth and occasionally use the GPS as well, so I'd like to have a charger that can handle that as well as top off my battery. Unfortunately, this product doesn't fit that bill. At 700ma, its certainly enough if you just want to occasionally charge your phone, but definitely not for heavy usage.

I'd get the cheaper, sexier and more powerful to boot Motorola charger on Amazon. Theres absolutely no reason to get this charger over that one unless you absolutely have to have Samsung written on your charger.

Works just like it should. Haven't had a single issue, and has the thinner plug for recessed USB port on the Samsung Captivate. If you need a car charger for your Galaxy S phone, this is the one to get.

Buy Samsung Standard Car Power Charger Now

Cons:

1) stopped working after a week of use, I think a spring or tension-er that contacts with the interior of the cigarette lighter is weak. I tried in other vehicles and it doesn't work either.

2) The cord is way short and difficult to use while charging.

Solution:

Buy: a

1) cigarette lighter -> USB female

2) a 6' micro USB cord

The solution works really well for me, I wouldn't recommend this Samsung car charger to anyone.

I have owned my charger for about 3 weeks now, no problems.

I like this charger because of it's blue light when charging. Makes you very aware that it's still receiving power. Product was delivered fast,

undamaged and of good Quality, at a cost of 1/5 of the phone store's

pricing. would for sure buy from amazon again!

Samsung put some thought into the design of its car battery charger. Many poorly designed chargers overheat, and they can also cause the battery to overheat, which is the reason many batteries fail to properly hold a charge.

Samsung designed this car charger to not activate until after the phone is attached, so you can keep the charger plugged in at all times without it getting hot. A green light tells you when the phone is being charged. The next "smart" design feature is that the charger provides a fairly rapid charge until the battery reaches about an 80% charge, and then it provides a slow "trickle" charge to slowly take the battery to 100%. That prevents overheating the battery and shortening its life.

However, because of that slow "trickle" charge feature, it is possible for the battery to actually LOSE some of its charge under high drain conditions. For example, if you have a 95% charge, and are using 3G, GPS satellite location, and Google maps, your charge will slowly sink toward about 80%, as those features drain the battery rapidly.

The battery charge is likely to stabilize in the 80% range, and will begin to go up when 3G, the GPS satellite locator, and Google Maps are turned off. And use your task manager to make sure they are REALLY off, and not still running in the background, killing your battery).

Some folks use their car charger for hours each day. A charger used 30 hours a week is going to fail a lot sooner than chargers used one or two hours a week. At Amazon's low price, heavy users should consider buying a couple of the Samsung chargers, and keeping a spare on hand.

Alcatel 871a Premium Quality Blue Led 12 Volt Socket Car Charger Adapter White

Alcatel 871a Premium Quality Blue Led 12 Volt Socket Car Charger Adapter White
  • Brand New IC Chip Controlled Plug in Car Charger
  • Modern Look With Blue Led
  • Conveniently charge your Alcatel 871a battery while your drive
  • Non interrupted charging, even while the Alcatel 871a is in use
  • Essential accessory in case of car accident or another emergency

Recently, I was forced to buy a new feature phone because sadly, my old one slipped from my shirt pocket when I bent over a bucket of scrub water to rinse a rag after mopping up muddy paw prints of eleven Saint Bernards. The one I chose was quite inexpensive but did not come with any chargers.

This is the one I chose for the car. The phone is a white Alcatel, and I was thrilled to find this charger to match it! The advantage is two-fold: 1. White electronic items are much, much easier to find when they are buried in the bottom of my purse. also easier to find at night on the floor or in the console of the car. and 2. The blue LED light is more visible than the old red one that was associated with my prior device. It actually gives off just enough light to help me find the right way around to insert the charger into the phone.

I don't know what is customary with these things, but it does a very good job of charging my phone quickly and thoroughly, and the cord is long enough that I can easily talk while it is charging.

Priority Start 12-Volt-Pro-SP PriorityStart Automatic Battery Protector

Priority Start 12-Volt-Pro-SP PriorityStart Automatic Battery ProtectorBMW X5. Installation had to go rear, right near battery, which meant mounting on spare tire wheel well and then buying a new positive cable to stretch from the battery to the Priority Start. Perhaps on cars with battery in front, not such a big deal installing.

Priority Start as disconnect battery only once I know of and that when car sat for an entire week.

Certainly rugged.

Recommend if you can tackle an installation job that might mean drill, cable, etc.

First of all, this electric shut off device worked, but it was poorly designed. On the top of the unit is a metal contact to screw a battery post to. But when I used my fingers to tighten it the post kept turning. I tried to unscrew the battery post but it kept turning and it wouldn't come off.

I ended up using a large screw driver to lift the top metal contact up until I could pry it all the way up. Then I discovered the problem. Below the metal contact plate was a hex nut that wasn't attached to anything. It wasn't welded to the metal plate. It was merely glued down with what looked like epoxy. It is a horrible design and I'm sure everyone who buys this device will eventually fall victim to this serious design flaw, especially if they try to remove it.

I imagine it would have taken another few cents to weld the metal nut to the metal contact plate so the company choose saving a few cents over making the product competently.

I ended up leaving the metal contact pried at a 90° angle so I could tighten the battery post to it. I had to leave it in this position because I couldn't tighten the post without using a wrench to hold the hex nut.

I wrote the company and even sent them photos with ways to properly engineer this device but I never heard from them.

Since I was forced to pry their PriorityStart open I'm sure the company would use this as an excuse to void my warranty, which doesn't last long anyway. And speaking of 'warranties' the buyer has to pay for the return of the unit and THEN the company determines if the unit is bad and from the wording of their warranty information it leads me to believe they will use any reason to avoid honoring their warranty.

Obviously their product is poorly engineered when finger tightening a battery post to it will cause an epoxy-held hex nut to break free. The company obviously doesn't care if customers have to be subjected to what I had to endure. Per their warranty it's obvious they wouldn't replace a unit if the top metal plate had to be pried open just to remove their device from a car even though 100% of the problem was their fault.

Fortunately, their product does work and I can start my car but to have engineered it the way they did reveals a company that doesn't have a quality control department or doesn't care about what happens after a sale is made. After all, their warranty would discourage (intentionally?) almost anyone who tries to get a replacement or a refund.

Lastly, I'm a NASA engineer and no device at NASA would have been made as defective as this device is. I give it 2 stars because it does work but if it was designed properly I would have given it 5 stars. Btw: Any smart and ethical company would take my suggestions and redesign their product and reward a person like myself who told them how to redesign it. It would lead to more sales and more satisfied customers. You'd think a company would have that as their number one priority but sadly most companies don't give a damn about customer satisfaction and only care about making a quick buck. If this company redesigns their product using my suggestions and doesn't compensate me for it then it reveals their total lack of gratitude and appreciation. It also reveals what kind of people are manufacturing & selling this product.

i purchased this for installation on a 96 suburban. i use this vehicle as a member of the local volunteer fire department and police reserves. My hope was that this would allow me to run my emergency led lights and radio equipment on a scene without the need to leave the engine running. It works perfectly. With the fire radio on and receiving, led strobes front and rear and the headlights and hazard signals on the system shut the power down at 1hr 15min. a quick flip of the head light switch and the truck started up just fine. i was a bit concerned if it would work for this purpose but it has performed perfectly.

installation can be a little tricky if you have short or tight battery cables but there is nothing "hard" about the install. i was installed in testing in less than 15min.

this product is great. i will be adding one to my daily driver as well.

Update Sept 2012 - The Battery Protector protected my battery

Wife tried to open up car, no power, she opened trunk with key, that put current to the battery protector, that put battery back on line, opened car, car started, worked like a champ.

This car has a tendency to not shut off a relay, somewhere in car, the battery protector worked, money well spent.

------------------------------------------

Installed item on car, so far working as advertised.

Have not had a problem with a battery drain yet, so can not say that item has protected the battery yet.

However I am sure it will, this car likes to surprise me every now and again.

Battery on this car is in trunk, and space is limited, was able to make it fit, in my case the cable being a few inches longer would have helped, but it is OK.

Seems to be quality product.

Sunforce 50048 60W Solar Charging Kit

Sunforce 50048 60W Solar Charging KitI purchased two of these kits (8 panels) and mounted them on the top of my RV. I have had them on the top of my RV now for approximately 8 months.

When I received the units, I tested each of them for the open voltage measurement noted in the instructions with a digital meter and found each to be producing 21 volts unloaded. Encouraged that the panels were working properly, I went ahead and took the time and expense to mount them to the top of my RV.

After 8 months, here's what I found:

First of all, the 15 watt, 1 amp peak output rating that Sunforce advertises is not correct. The peak output rating for each of these panels should have been advertised at approximately 750 milliamps per panel. The total peak output that one could typically expect from the 4 panels in this kit would be around 3 amps. 3 amps under perfect conditions.

I have noticed that the boards are extremely prone to large drops (upwards of 45%) in current output when they begin to heat up. In other words, the boards are VERY intolerant to high temperatures. But even under perfect conditions, the 8 panels that I have mounted on my RV only produced 6 amps, and I am in Hawaii.

Another problem: The boards shut down in lower light situations. In other words, early morning and later afternoon lighting, significant cloud cover, or other low light situation will be cause for either a total shut down of output, or the boards will be very poor performers in the low milliamps for 8 panels in parallel.

Within a very short period of time (about 4 months) the output from the panels gradually decreased by nearly 50%. And right now I am getting about 40% of the advertised peak output in perfect conditions.

The plastic construction is very cheap, in my opinion, and I am now worried that the plastic may break away around the screws that hold down the panels and fly off the vehicle. Needless to say, I am removing the panels.

I'm out some money, a lot of time and effort, but I've learned a lot about solar panel technology over the past 8 months.

For just a few bucks more, I will purchase a decent monocrystilline, 36 cell panel that will far and away outproduce the 8 panels that I have on my RV now, and take up far less space and be much safer on top of the vehicle.

Don't waste your time or money on this kind of solar panel technology. You will be very sorry.

*Update* 6-2010, while my original panels are still running strong so long as I hose them down once a month, I've noticed that the PVC pipe provided to hold them in place has become brittle with sun exposure, hence I would now in 20/20 hindsight recommend a coat of Krylon Fusion Dover White Plastic Satin Spray Paint on the PVC parts to prevent UV cracking later in life. I do not think the Krylon Fusion product was available when I first setup my first panels but UV cracking of the support structure could cause panel damage in years 2 and 3.

Meanwhile Amazon got their hands on some obsolete & discontinued Sharp panels (12.5% efficiency vs the new 13.1% efficiency) if you are serious about needing lots of solar power in a small space, this is a big kit you can view it here: Sunforce 39126 246-Watt High-Efficiency Polycrystalline Solar Power Kit

My only concern about the kit is that due to the new panels being higher efficiency means it will be difficult to match panels if you find you still need more power later on. The other con on that system is it's price -$1300+ but you get the wattage, along with a cheap charge controller and inverter, both of which could be upgraded for better system performance. It's just another solar system to consider in the $5/watt or less pricepoint for DIYers.

Update 9-18-2008 Still going strong. I am very pleased with the summer power output of these panels. I wash them with a hose 1x/mo to keep the output current up. Measured before washing and after washing the panel efficiency is clearly a factor of how much dirt is on them. No problems long term on a roof though!

Update 2-20-2008 goes with graph "photograph" #3 above pink line is power and blue line is amps from the panel x 10 to share the graph. The X axis is panel voltage. Data was acquired using an Agilent dummy load with programmable voltage in 1V steps from 1V to 22V (open circuit voltage on the panel) on a partially cloudy day in winter sun. Expectations are for 2-3 times performace in summer sun provided the panels don't get too hot. These are on my house roof laying flat on a 3/12 pitch facing due south which is suboptimal but easy for me to do. Be sure to read the photo notes. Sorry about the colors excel defaulted to!

This is a MPPT chart (maximum power point tracking) you can see that the panels are optimized for charging a 12V wet cell right out of the box. Charge current turns on when battery voltage drops down to 13.0 VDC and turns off at 14.2 VDC with the supplied charge controller in the kit.

The only other interesting fact in 2 months is to keep your panels clean. My maximum current was 5.0 A on a cold morning with bright sun until it rained hard and washed the panels clean. The current went up to 7.0 A maximum right after the rainstorm. Below is the original review these panels have been running constant for 2 months now into 3 parallel deep cycle marine cells (315 AH) connected to the prosine inverter below to drain the energy made.

When reading the power/current chart you should keep in mind the amps have been multiplied by 10 so they use the same Y axis (so 20A on the chart corresponds to 2.0 A panel current) Watts are actual volts*amps. This was taken in the winter with partial clouds expectations are for a X3 improvement during summertime but its still february and I'm in the northern hemisphere so we'll have to wait and see. Basically an MPPT charger won't gain but a few watts with this panel so it's not a good investment unless you already have one laying around.

(Begin original review after buying panels)

I never seem to be overwhelmed by the latest shipment of product from China, but this one seems to show some promise and shows signs of good cost engineering and a complete design that can be set up quickly by one person with very little effort. I'd give it 5 stars if it were well packed, but my purchase turned into a shipping fiasco.

Most ALL solar installations are rated in $/watt much like new homes are rated in $/sq ft. We'll get to the sq ft bit later. Here you are getting 60W for 320 dollars or about 5.33 $/watt. Compared to a similar wattage panel, the BP solar 365U rated at 65W and priced (street) at 399 or 6.13 $/watt the amazon package seems to be a good deal when you consider it comes complete less battery (we'll hit that one later too)

In fact, the amazon package deal includes a xantrex 175 watt inverter with a .15A "idle" current designed for solar systems where current consumption must be minimized. It even includes a simple diode/switch "charge regulator" with 2 leds to indicate panel voltage and battery is full but lacks the ability to tell it what type of battery you are using (full is defined at 14.2 volts give or take so it's for wet/flooded cells). Neither of these are big buck items, but they do set you up for a complete small scale solar kit minus the battery out of the box, which is impressive.

Oh yes, the battery. I also ordered the duracell 480W inverter+28AH battery with this panel so I'd have a battery. Also made by Xantrex, it's a nice piece to complete the system. I made the mistake of ordering it with the solar panels (read on)

So how does China produce a complete kit for a lower $/watt price than professional solar companies like BP solar, GE, Kyocera, etc? Well it's the sq ft part we forgot about for a while. This uses 4 panels @ 15W each to get up to 60 watts with a simple parallel adapter included in the kit. The BP solar is one panel about the size of 1 of these 15W panels, or put another way, is 1/4 the sq footage. So if you are planning on covering your roof with these, think again because you'd need a really big house and have lots of 7A charge diodes and 175W inverters kicking around when you are done. The reason for the 4:1 size difference is the China panels are made using a silicon deposition on glass technique with a very thin film and correspondingly thin output, while other manufacturers use a silicon wafer production method that is roughly 4x more efficient in area, and somewhat more expensive as a result.

Ok now onto packaging. We need to get this from China to Amazon and finally to the consumer. On the first attempt FEDX carefully placed my fragile glass solar panels on the concrete then put 2ea 60lb batteries on top of them, cracking the glass on all 4 panels. After returning that to amazon, we tried again, this time without the batteries and shipping the system by itself. FEDX again noted shipment damage which wrecked 1 of the 4 panels, but running on 3/4 panels it does work, just not with full output. Amazon has given up because they will only ship and ruin something twice instead of making fedx pay up for piling 120 lbs of batteries on top of the glass panels and poking through the box & styrofoam the second time so I am still in negotiation with them about the shipment, however the product does deserve mention while I have it.

PERFORMANCE:

The design is actually quite well done. You can make (with 4 panels) a 12V (actually 15V) x 4A system, or a 30V x 2A or a 60V x 1A configuration depending on your power inverter and battery collection. For me, this will always be tied into a 12VDC bus so it is fine as shipped, but the flexibility is there if you have other voltages in use. There is no skimping on wire with 16 foot cords on each panel which helps to minimize power lost in the wire since each panel has its own cordset going to the combiner, after which runs are kept short. On a cloudy day I was able to get 2 amps from 3 panels (30 W) in full sun it peaked at 5.91A with 3 panels, so the Chinese manufacturing has under-rated their output as 90W from a 1/4 dead 60W panel in winter sun is doing very good I'd like to know how it performs in the summer!

As for mounting, a very clever system was designed to support the panels out of 1" PVC tubing with elbows and T's all of this is assembled with a singular bolt/wingnut style and the pipes have slots milled into them to ensure that the panels will line up one way or another without breaking after you get them. It has a prop-up leg system for use on the ground or can lay flat if placed on a roof that is already angled towards the sun. There isn't a provision for connecting multiple systems together, however you could make one out of sprinkler pipes you probably have.

All this really needs to be a well designed solar kit is 1) better packaging and 2) a battery. Even with 25% of my panels broken and removed from the system, it still managed to charge a car battery in under 1 cloudy winter day.

I'm impressed with the product, however disappointed with the shipper. I've also run up against Amazon's policy of two strikes and they are out meaning they won't negotiate for repair or replacement as the shipper on my behalf. I can return it alltogether or pay 100% for 75% of a system so it's probably going back tomorrow (monday) but my testing this weekend has shown that the product warrants consideration for people who

A) Need to keep their starting batteries charged year round (2nd cars, generators, etc) outside where AC power is not convenient.

B) People lacking A/C power somewhere and would like to run a small refrigerator (purchase a Xantrex Technologies Prosine 1,000 to 1,500-Watt Power Inverter #1000 TRUE SINEWAVE power inverter to run any motor load without damage) for 12V refrigeration needs its best to AVOID both inverters and peltier effect coolers ($40-80) and spend the money ($427 ouch) to get one of the Danfoss 12VDC real compressor refrigerators. The peltier coolers are just that coolers in a car they can keep something from your fridge cool, but the power draw of 8A x 12V (96 watts!) running continuously just to cool a 6 pack is insane. The danfoss iceless iceboxes can MAKE ICE if their compressor runs 80% duty cycle at 3A or about 24 watts. If you just want to keep 3 ea. 12 packs ice-cold and have a 2nd cool box inside for stuff you don't want to freeze they run 20-25% duty cycle on the 3 Amp compressor depending on temperature difference. Because I am on the road alot I keep one of these iceboxes with me attached to its own 80AH battery which will run it 3 days w/o charge. The same battery would run a peltier cooler less than 8 hours till dead. The battery is isolated from my engine but charges when I drive.

C) Or people who have *lots* of roof space and are looking at the lowest cost/watt installation complete with mounting hardware.

Don't forget the battery and don't have it delivered with your solar panels. As for emergency power, 60 watts won't do much for you but keep your generator battery charged and ready to go when the power fails. My natural gas genset is rated for 12,000 watts or 200 of these 60 watt 4-panel kits (800 panels) which would cost $64,000 and still not provide power at night, like the quiet genset does. With 12,000 watts I can comfortably run my whole house. Considering these natural gas gensets can be had for under $3000 they are clearly a great solution for whole house power backup systems so long as the gas stays on (most do propane or natural gas). I still like my friend's earthquake backup solution his house is heated by diesel and also has a diesel genset + diesel vehicle, so he is quite well prepared.

My use was to keep my seldom used 12VDC batteries all charged in the back yard. I kept the solar system for long term statistics and measurement and now have 2 of these in parallel. I bought a grid powered battery tender CTEK CTK7002 MULTI US 7002 Battery Charger to best charge my genset starting battery.

One last reliability issue having seen 5 broken panels now I can see an advantage to the professional panel systems these use the glass just as a cover & weatherproofing plate. The cells underneath are not damaged if the glass breaks provided the break is superficial. On the amazon system, the cells are deposited on the back of the glass, so if it breaks, by default so does the entire cell. A hailstorm could easily wipe out your backup power if using these monolithic inexpensive panels.

The panels are installed on my garage roof, wired in to a battery bank and inverter which primarily functions as a very large (4KW) uninterruptible power supply for the house. So far, everything is working fine. They keep the batteries topped off without using power from the grid.

Like most manufacturer's specs, the 60 watt claim is hard to realize. The panels' current output is about 3.2 amps under bright sun, which yields only about 45 watts into a 12 volt gel cell battery at 14.2 volts. The panels can output about 20 volts which would indeed yield 60 watts, but not while connected with the included charge controller. A MPPT controller would achieve 60 watts, however.

The included controller is acceptable in that it works as advertised. One good thing about it is that it does not shunt the panels when the battery is charged, it actually opens the circuit, which means the excess panel output would be available for other uses. I intend to build another device for charging another set of batteries after the primary set is charged.

The included inverter works, but I did not use it in the system. Instead, I'll just keep it around for a portable inverter.

Also, I did not use the PVC pipe stand included with the system, instead mounting the panels directly to the roof.

The kit did include a variety of connectors allowing use with cigarette lighter plugs and jacks, alligator clips, and hardwire, but the charge controller is only usable if hardwired. I strongly recommend the charge controller be used, as the panels can easily overcharge most any 12 volt battery if a charge controller is not wired in.

We bought this a few months ago. We live in Phoenix, AZ ("Valley of the Sun"), so this has plenty of opportunity to work. We have it plugged into 2 marine batteries (like car batteries, but bigger), and we have an inverter connected to those. The inverter is in the house, and the batteries are outside. The wire goes through the wall. We plug things into the inverter.

This was easy to put together. You have to buy the batteries, but this came with everything else.

I can run my laptop all day, as well as recharge the cell phones and Wii remotes. My husband can also run his laptop. If we only get on the laptops after work, we can run them well into the night. I've had to switch to grid power a couple of times if I've used my laptop all day, but I've never had to switch over if I've only used it during the evening. (This doesn't count the few rainy days we've had. Yes, once in a while it rains in Phoenix.)

This is not the most efficient solar panel set, but it's very good for starting out and learning about solar power. It's inexpensive enough to set up and charge all your rechargeable stuff whenever you need it, as long as you live in a fairly sunny area.

Oh, as an experiment, I plugged the vacuum cleaner into the inverter, which promptly started screaming for help. (The inverter has an alarm, apparently.) This whole set-up CANNOT handle this kind of power draw. You have to unplug everything and turn the inverter off and let it just sit a while and reset before plugging in your lower power things again.

You're not going off the grid with this set-up, but you'll save yourself a few bucks a month. And you get to be smug whenever anyone talks about going green. "Well of course, our solar array has lowered our carbon footprint considerabley. Shall we go for an organic smoothie now?"

I am pourya, a PhD in power electronics and I design renewable energy systems.

You might not know how much 60W panel is.

A normal car battery is 100Ah which means for 100 hours it can provide 1 A. The voltage is 12V so it can provide 12*100=1200Wh of energy.

This panel is 60 W. reaching the nominal values for renewable sources are very rare. So we call this a 50W panel. After 1 hour it delivers 50Wh energy.

Now to charge our battery you need 1200/50=24hours of charging. Each day will give you 8 hours of good energy in texas. So you need 3 days to charge 1 car battery. ( but since you never fully discharge your battery, it might be 2 days ).

Now you should consider the rate of your consumption. If you want to use the battery simultaneously, it becomes very important that you consumption rate is below 60W which is basically a lamp in a car. So you are just discharging your battery and the panel is reducing the rate.

I don't have this unit. But I know the price is high. With 200-250$ you can get 200W panel not a 60W one.

Ok, so I went ahead taking a gamble buying this cheap case (mine came with charger too, for 1 Cent!!) and it PAID OFF! Its thin but strong, and the arm band stretches even after months of use! Is comfortable, stable, and I do yard work, RUN, work out, and even shovel with this thing on my arm! Be careful putting the arm band through the belt loop on the rubber case and you will be fine. Love it, I am buying another as a spare before they run out.

Bought three of them, one for daughter, one for my wife and one for me. Two of the three had issues with constantly freezing up, had to remove back cover (PIA tiny screws) to remove battery to reset. The one I purchased for myself finally would not turn on, would light like it wanted to turn on, then go dark and cycle the process all over again. I finally gave up on it and now use my cell phone Mp3. Product lasted about 7 months before failure. Only used it occasionally in the gym on the stairmaster. Never dropped or abused. My wife uses hers at the gym as well and her's has been trouble free (one out of three is a poor percentage rate). I'd never buy another one. This is the third Sandisk Mp3 product I've purchased (the first two models I purchased lasted approximately one year and I thought this product was more refined). This is the last Sandisk Mp3 player I'll ever purchase.

Car Charger for SanDisk Sansa Fuze Series MP3 Player - non OEM

Car Charger for SanDisk Sansa Fuze Series MP3 Player - non OEMThis is a great charger for my Sansa E200 series and Sansa Fuse MP3 players.

1. Was very inexpensive

2. Shipped rapidly

3. Worked right out of the package

4. Charging while in the car is much faster than connected to the USB, but I don't think it is quite as fast as when I plug it into a wall outlet with my other charger.

The drawback for me was that when charging I could not play the MP3 player plugged into the car's MP3 jack. This is probably an issue with my car's sound system more than having anything to do with the charger or MP3 player but it may be important information to know when considering this purchase.

You CAN listen to the MP3 player as it is charging in the car if you use headphones though.

I bought this so that in case my fuze battery died I could continue to listen to my music and podcasts on the road. Well this thing works great for that on my vuze v2. I use one of those things that uses a cassette with a cable that plugs into your headset jack if that helps anyone.

I bought this charger, used it once and then left in my glove box. A week later I needed to charge my Sansa again and the tip literally fell apart. The casing around the metal tip fell into two pieces, then the metal tip disconnected from the flimsy power and negative cables, leaving me with a completely useless charger. Spring for something more... in this instance you LITERALLY get what you pay for.

I use my Sansa in the car almost explicitly, and I was sick of it losing battery while I was driving. Bought this and with shipping it came to just a few bucks. WORKS GREAT! So affordable and works like a charm. I did notice that the actual plug itself is coming loose, but it snaps back together easily, but just keep an eye on it. Other than that, great product for a fantastic price!

EDIT:::::::

About 13 months after I have purchased this item, it will not stay in my Sansa Fuze to charge. Still at the price of a few bucks, it is still worth the price to me! But just keep that in mind that it may not function for great lengths of time

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter

Cobra CPI 2575 2500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter
  • 2500 W Continuous Power Handling
  • 5v USB output
  • 3Grounded AC Receptacles
  • Thermal Shutdown and Reverse Polarity Protection
  • LED volt/watt meter and remoter on/ off capable

Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor.

Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones.

First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet!

Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either!

How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter.

This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea.

To all the people who have issues in getting full or high wattage out of this or any other unit: you MUST have thick (#4) and short (3-4ft) 12v cables to your battery bank. Otherwise the inverter will be starved for current and cause the "low voltage protection" to kick in. Make sure your battery/ bank are up to the task as well.

This unit works great for me. I tested it with combination's of differing equipment (electric chainsaw, power saw, A/C unit, refrigerator, electric heating unit). No problems for me. Do your homework before giving out 1 star reviews people...

We have alot of experience with inverters, and this inverter is just average. It does produce quite a bit of power, but we seem unable to run both of our energy efficient freezers simulatneously (about 1.7 amps draw each freezer --200watts). Also, it does not come with cables to attach it to the batteries, so expect to buy those too. Lastly, and most importantly is the noise. The inverter cooling fan starts up at even the smallest load, and it is loud. As more load is applied the cooling fan ramps up louder and louder. It is not so loud as to hurt your ears, but it is loud enough to be annoying and to heard throughout whatever room it is in, so I recommend you buy the remote start if you choose to buy this unit. Locate it in a closet or shed so you don't have to listen to it.

We have had other inverters that cost much less, but of course only 1200 Watts of power, that had NONE of the shortcomings of this one (our old 1200 Watt model simultaneously ran both freezers, T.V. VCR, DVD player, speakers, and lights; it came with a connector cable, and its fan was quiet and only came on during high loads). The reason we purchased this one is because all the previous inverters, although quiet and efficient, eventually died, and we hoped that this one could handle the peak loads better.

9 April 2009: Just a brief update. At this point in time the inverter is useless, the cooling fans quit working so I am hesitant to use if for fear of a fire (that happened with another inverter several years ago). To be fair, we used that inverter nearly every day at times for up to 12 hours straight. But it never did meet our expectations, and now we are looking for replacement.

I purchased this for my semi-truck. The inverter requires 2 sets of 4 awg wire. I soldered my ends first and used heavy duty ends for the battery contacts. The cables are 3'9" long.(Cobra said no more than 4') I tried to overload this inverter with a 6hp shop-vac and could not. The remote for me is a must but the remote is another story. If you are looking for an inverter that will power just about anything, I highly recommend this one. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that the length of the power cables limits where the inverter can be placed. All other aspects of this inverter are very impressive. As a side note, I use this inverter for a microwave in my truck,(among other things)and the modified sine wave is no problem at all.

i have recently purchased the inverter 2575 by cobra. i installed it into my car and it runds great. i found the inverter to be smaller than expected and was able to install it into the dash of my car.

The instructions for the inverter are clear and precise, however i am still unsure it i can run it with the engine on. I also used the cables that were recommended 4000W for around $30.00 it was by far the cheapest around. Be careful when installing the inverter, i took almost the entire 10feet to get from the battery to the dash via the left hand front guard.

from an earlier "feedback" they said the inverter made quite abit of noise, i mesured it at around 55Db from one foot. which isn't all that loud but if you were running a fridge all the time and the inverter was close to you it would get annoying. I use it for a 800W microwave, it has plenty of power left o could run a tv and Wii system at the same time.

I recommend it for the price ($200.00)i felt it was a bargin, and they have a support phone number if you get stuck. having it for my ipod is also great.

S-1116: 12V Briefcase Solar Generator

S-1116: 12V Briefcase Solar GeneratorI own four of these. Got them from another source. I have all of them in a closet waiting for an extended power outage. I purchased Radio Shack #274-1573 adapters so that I can plug them directly into my four Xantrex XPower Powerpack 400 plus units (battery pack power sources). These power packs give me both 12 Volt DC and 115 Volt AC. I keep them fully charged by plugging them in to the wall socket. As for choosing solar panels, If I could afford it (and I was many years younger) I might have purchased the much more expensive monocrystalline solar panels. They retain 80% of original efficiency after twenty five years of continuous use. By contrast, these much cheaper S-1116 briefcase panels will only last about five years of continuous use. Also, the monocrystalline panels are much more efficient and thus smaller while producing higher wattage. A nice portable monocrystalline briefcase is available at much higher cost. It is even somewhat weather proof. The S-1116 is not weather proof. If you want to set up a lifetime solar power source, buy monocrystalline solar panels. But, I assume you are only wanting a portable solar power source for emergencies. If so, I think this cheaper S-1116 is your best choice. It might also be a good choice considering that they do last five years and the scientific community is continuously improving, and reducing cost of, everything electronic. All four of my panels tested better than advertised. Maybe I should have given the S-1116 five stars.

I bought this unit as a low cost way to gain some hands on experience with solar panels, and for possible use to recharge my laptop computer after a hurricane power outage. Via digital voltmeter I found:

Open circuit voltage: ~ 21.5 v

Max charging current: 400 500 ma

Both the voltage and current will vary somewhat depending on temperature and insolation these values are for shirt sleeve temperature and good sky conditions. I've used it to recharge the battery on a motorcycle that's used infrequently, and leave it on the front dash of an Astro van that is also infrequently used. It adds charge in both cases, but at a half amp tops its not a fast way to do it.

The unit is reasonably well built, and the supplied hookup cables are useful. For light duty or maintenance charging, it can do the job. If you want to deliver a more robust amount of power, a monocrystaline panel will deliver a lot more juice for the same physical size, whether its briefcase or regular panel.

Bottom line if you understand its limits, this product is a good way to mess around with solar power at a modest price. But it you want to generate more serious levels of power, look at the mono or poly crystaline alternatives.

Buy S-1116: 12V Briefcase Solar Generator Now

This product works very well and is easy to set up and get started. Excellent compact size. Beware of two things though and if I have any complaints these would be: look out for the shipping (new to amazon and didn't think it would be that much) and it is only a 13 watt solar panel. So if you're new to solar panels like I was, it will not charge a battery very fast and the 13 watt is the MAXIMUM. Expect less.

I use this panel to charge the Duracell 600 power pack (28aH battery basically) and it just never had enough juice to do the job. I did combine it with the Coleman 36 Watt solar panel but I'm still testing it so I'll have to update this review later. So whats good about it? Its a great trickle charger, it won't over charge your battery (blocking diode) Just a little sunlight will start it charging, and it's extremely portable (long cord wraps up inside). The connectors are easy to use and if you're worried about controlling the charge I would recommend the Kintrex (7 amp / 12V) which has matching connectors making for easier hook up and will do the same thing as the Sunforce amp controller (but so much easier to use if you have little to no electrical experience). Overall does as advertised, but if you're not solar savvy I suggest you look through the rest of the solar panels available on Amazon. Sunforce is a good comparison with the same easy connectors.

Great item to charge my camping battery ( I use the battery to run a small fan at night in the tent). Don't regret purchase at all. You can charge so many household items with this nifty solar panel. Set in front of sunny window and then figure at all your hook-ups and charge away. Nothing happens fast , but that is OK , we all need to slow down and smell the roses.

Lincoln Lubrication 1442 14.4 Volt Powerluber Kit - 1 Battery

Lincoln Lubrication 1442 14.4 Volt Powerluber Kit - 1 BatteryI am in the service business, so having a portable battery operated Grease gun is the best thing since sliced bread. In my opinion you need the best equipment to do a job right.

This works great! Have been struggling with holding a nozzle in place while trying to hand pump a regular grease gun. The first day I greased the disc, tractor, both 4 wheelers and lawnmowers, then looked around for other things to use it on. I usually had to take a break while just doing the disc, as my hand felt like it was ready to fall off with the hand pump grease gun. The grease goes just where you want it and can always be sure it is delivering enough. Very clean and efficient. Nice case, but it will not go back in the case with a full tube of grease installed. Very portable, do not have to be hooked to an air hose, electrical cord or use a manual grease gun.

Bought the car and AC charger set to use on my Magellan 1412 GPS unit as I lost the original cord. The car charger barely has enough power to turn on the GPS but not enough power to let the unit power on fully. A GPS unit takes 1 or 2 amps of power to run and this charger is clearly not designed to put out enough power to run a GPS unit--it probably is really only designed to put out enough power for a cell phone. The AC adapter cord will turn on the unit properly but I was primarily needing a car adapter. I will be returning it if I can.

I've had a bunch of other chargers that did not last like this one. This is the best quality charger I've bought. I love it compared to the other designs and it was very low priced

Original Verizon Car Charger for Samsung Galaxy Nexus i515

Original Verizon Car Charger for Samsung Galaxy Nexus i515Just received this charger yesterday, but so far so good. My big test was running Google Navigation while charging, and it was actually powerful enough to charge the phone while running navigation. Drove for about 15 minutes and the phone went from 24% to 36%. Very happy so far!!

So I lost my original Verizon charger back from my Blackberry Days. That one cost ~$20 from the VZW store back then. I figured lets try to save some money this time, so I picked up this one for ~$5.

To be short, this one is pretty much exactly the same if not better, and works flawlessly. I used this charger over the weekend on a road trip and it was capable of keeping my Galaxy Nexus fully charged while running Navigation and Sirius XM, during my entire trip. Even my old charger couldn't do that. I am very impressed.

Go Power! GP-300 300-Watt Modified Sine Wave Inverter

Go Power! GP-300 300-Watt Modified Sine Wave InverterPurchased this for running a few low power items when the utility power is out. Very impressed with the build quality of this unit. It does provide the rated 300 watts without overheating or shutting down as long as adequate ventilation is provided, these do generate heat that must be dissipated. No complaints here considering the cost.

I purchased this inverter thinking it would be at least ok compared to the true sine wave model. Truth is it's not even close. It did, however meet my needs as a backup unit.

It was able to deal with a 200W light load, but anything over that and it struggled. It will also run a very small motor, like a coffee grinder.

It is also much smaller than described. I was pretty surprised when I opened the box. Actual size is 5.75 x 1.75 x 3.5"

In conclusion, it's adequate for light tasks and worth it's bargain price. If you need a real and clean 300W, go for the true sine wave unit

I have only had it for a week, but so far I am very impressed. I use it to power my 2.1 computer speakers (200 watts) and it is beautiful. Also since it has 2 outlets, I can charge my phone in my car at the same time! Great product, great price. Cig lighter hook up is MONEY!

Must have item for converting 12 volt power to 120 for appliance use. Well may, not too big, and good for camping.

The sine wave was not good enough to run electronics without serious interference. Additionally, the maximum wattage output for this device was 40w, rather than 300w. I am surprised that this product received any positive reviews. I suppose that some of these products are far less faulty then others.

They sent the wrong item; refused to fix the problem until I contacted amazon. No way to talk other than slow email response. Still don't have refund a month later.
