i.Trek GA-NHWC2: Hardwire Cable for Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan GPS with Mini-USB connector
  • Input: 12 - 24V, Output: 5V @ 1.5A
  • Cable Length: 6 feet
  • Please note: for Garmin Nuvi 600, 700, 800, 1600 series, this cable connects directly to the GPS unit not the cradle
  • Compatible: Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan
  • This unique hardwire power cable allows you to hardwire your Nuvi GPS receivers (with MiniUSB connector) to your car, boat, airplane, RV or ATV's power source or battery.

-----UPDATE(01/07/12)-----Apparently there is a fuse inside the device, but it is soldered in place.(but no problems so far)------ ORIGINAL REVIEW-----I'm using this for my Garmin GTU 10 GPS Tracking Unit, so far, so good. Easy hook-up to my fuse panel, and plugs into my Garmin GTU 10 easily. The box itself is made in China and is about 2 inches X 2 inches and rated 1.5 amps. It dosn't have any kind of fuse, so you might want to consider that when installing. The individual wires themselves are kind of thin, but gets the job done. All in all, a great little device. If anything goes wrong with this thing(knock on wood), I will update my post.

Buy i.Trek GA-NHWC2: Hardwire Cable for Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan GPS with Mini-USB connector Now

I tested the cable before installing on my motorcycle and it worked fine. However, due to an oops, I fried the little fuse inside the box. To get inside, you'll need to remove the label (or poke holes in it) to access the screws. Once in, you'll see where the little fuse is soldered in. I plan to remove the fuse, solder the connection closed, and add a fuse somewhere else.

One concern I have is that the circuit board is not solidly mounted inside the box. It just rattles around. As this will be installed on a single-cylinder dual sport, I'm concerned that vibrations and bumps may mess with the circuit board. I will probably pot it with epoxy. There was also an exposed wire inside the box.

It's just a cheap, cheaply made cable which works, but needs extra work for my application.

HQRP 50W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 50 Watt 12 Volt in Anodized Aluminum Frame 10 Years Limited P

HQRP 50W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 50 Watt 12 Volt in Anodized Aluminum Frame 10 Years Limited Power WarrantyI purchased the solar panel to charge the batteries on my travel trailer. The plastic connector box on the back of the unit was debonded when I received the unit. The vender gave me a choice of returning it or gluing it back on myself for a partial refund (twice the shipping cost). I purchased some silicone adhesive and successfully glued it back on. The HQRP 10 amp controller was also purchased. Special MC4 connectors are required to connect to the panel. I purchased a 30 ft MC4 extension cable from another vender which I cut in half. This provided enough wire to connect from the trailer roof to the controller and then to the battery. The controller would not accept the Number 10 wire, so I had to break off three strands to make it fit into the connector. I also purchased 4 brackets to mount the panel to the trailer roof. The unit was sufficient to make my trailer batteries last for a week while camping at Lake Tahoe. The controller showed charging current as soon as it was light in the morning until dark.

I'm impressed with the frame, tempered glass, and sealed electronics of this panel. Furthermore, I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of this panel in not-so-bright light conditions. Very solid design, and I found that the output was not terribly sensitive to being installed at sub-optimum angles relative to the sun. I'll be adding more of this exact product to an array, over the next year or two. Advice: Plan ahead and get a larger-than-you-need Charge Controller, so that you have the option of adding more panels later on. Note: The shipper requries In-Person signatures for delivery, and I ended up having to take a day off of work to be able to be home for the delivery. FedEx was (understandably so) *very* strict about enforcing the shipper's policy, in this regard.

For the price of what solar panels are going for these days its really crazy. But these panels are the cheapest that i could find that work on cloudy days. They work great. I have had them up on the roof now for about 3 weeks and they keep my small battery bank charged and ready to go.

I was hesitant to purchase this item at first given that some of the reviews look fake (a person with the same name published the same review on 30 websites selling this product). However, it arrived in good condition and worked right away. It's been working well for 4 months already.

One negative point though, the connector is not really common and costs quite a bit to purchase. I had to buy a $25 MC4 connector on a different web site.

Want HQRP 50W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 50 Watt 12 Volt in Anodized Aluminum Frame 10 Years Limited P Discount?

I purchased this solar panel in the spring. After 6 months of use on my sailboat it is still putting out good power and shows no signs of corrosion.

I have a link 2000 battery monitor and it shows over 3 amps of charge when the sun is high. It starts charging soon as any light is on it. 1 amp on a cloudy day.

The aluminum frame makes it easy to mount on a bracket or fabricate your own(thats what I did).

It keeps my boat batteries topped off and thats what I purchased it for.

YTX4L-BS AGM Maintenance Free Battery

YTX4L-BS AGM Maintenance Free BatteryThe battery I ordered said AGM in the description. The battery I received said Sealed Lead Acid on the side of it. Although the battery does work fine, I am not sure I received the battery I paid for.

I needed a battery for my KTM and as I don't ride it often and I'm perfectly comfortable kick starting it I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a brand name battery (do some searching and you'll find that pretty much all batteries are made in one of 3 factories anyway). It's just nice to be able to hit the start button for those times when you're in an awkward position and kick starting is not feasible. So, anyway, I took it out of the box, installed it, and the bike fired right up. A couple months later and it still holds the charge, even with very limited use. Only thing I'll note is the terminal bolts and nuts that come with it are a little short, use the ones off your old battery and you'll be good to go.

Was surprised that I had to put the acid in the battery but it was a simple procedure. Just make sure you have a battery charger to give it the initial charge

Great battery and now the charge last weeks with ATV sitting, with OEM battery it would be dead after 2 days.

This is an exact match to my Snapper battery but may be better. I bought the last one from the Snapper company and paid $60 for it. This was a good deal to me.

Yamaha EF2000iS 2,000 Watt 79cc OHV 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator (CARB Complian

Yamaha EF2000iS 2,000 Watt 79cc OHV 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter GeneratorThis is a very high quality unit, nicely designed. I chose it over the Honda Eu2000i because it has a fuel gage and is a hair lighter (2 pounds), and liked the styling better. Specs are so close it's a tie... the Yamaha unit specs a bit quieter in "eco" throttle but the Honda specs a bit quieter at full power. Prior to this purchase I had bought a Honeywell inverter generator (a much less expensive Chinese-made knock-off) from Costco which I returned, because I was unimpressed with the Honeywell unit's quality and noise level. While the price difference is major, you get what you pay for in this case. Anyone looking at the cheaper knock-offs should really consider that a 5db increase in noise level is a major difference, the way humans perceive it.

The most impressive thing about this unit is how quiet it is. Even at full engine speed you can stand about 6 feet away and have a normal conversation without raising your voice, or talk on a cell phone without undue distraction. It features an "eco" setting which tapers down the engine throttle and noise when full load isn't required. At half-throttle or less, from about 6 feet away it is about half as loud and amazingly quiet. I used it to run a 50-amp 12v battery charger and at full charge level the charger only required the generator to operate at about half-speed, and when the charger tapered down the charge level to under 30-amps the generator became so quiet I literally forgot about it. It is MUCH quieter than my boat's inboard diesel engine, and more efficient than running the main engine just to top off the batteries. I also used it to power a heavy duty 120v grinder and it had no problems supplying the needed power, even on electric motor start-up.

I got this mainly for charging our boat's batteries at anchor but I also wanted the ability to run power tools. The lighter 1000-watt inverter generators could easily handle the charging application but not the more power-hungry tools. Having the extra power also means the eco-throttle will likely kick in earlier and the unit will operate quieter. The number-1 purchase criteria was "quiet" because I don't want to be distracted by incessant noise or be a bad neighbor in anchorages. The Honeywell was not quiet enough in my opinion.

If generators are abused it will lead to regulations banning them, so an appeal to other boaters and to campers: Please don't settle for "cheap". Get a better quality inverter-generator unit that's quieter so you minimize noise pollution in get-away places. (Leave your "contractors generator" at home!!!) Also, please be considerate of neighbors and limit running it to times/places you aren't as likely to disturb others... and don't leave your boat or campsite while it runs and runs. We all like our electric conveniences, but if you really need 120v power more or less constantly you should either stay home or get a dock/parking space where you can plug into "the grid". It's rude to disturb others who are trying to get away to find some peace and quiet.

Negative: The unit ships without engine oil, so you need to buy a quart of standard 4-stroke engine oil and fill it. You will also need a funnel, and a pan to catch excess oil. There is no dipstick; you need to fill to the level of the bottom of the filler hole until any more runs out. It uses less than 3/4 quart. I think they should have included the required amount of oil, and a plastic filler container with a spout, marked to show the proper amount of oil to use.

Update 2/22/2012: In general still very happy with the unit, but checking oil level is inconvenient (you need to open the case with several screws) and changing the oil is a messy operation involving rags and clean-up because there is no neat way to capture the waste oil or overflow directly into a container. I think the next generation of this product should improve on that design issue and provide a dip stick or oil level indicator that's either externally accessible or located behind a quick-access panel.

Update 8/29/11:

Having owned this for almost 2 years now I would add the following:

1) I have found that it has enough power to run the charger AND the hot water heater's 120v heating element at the same time. It is near-max (running full speed) but doesn't light the overload light when doing that and the charger is in bulk phase. Nice when you're in an anchorage for a few days and haven't run the engine. Why run a 57hp diesel just to heat water and charge the house bank?

2) If I shut off the fuel and let the carburetor run dry before putting it away, it does not smell of gas with the fuel vent and fuel valve both closed. The maker advocates storing in a well ventilated area or garage, but odor from fumes is not a problem.

3) It's also useful at home during power outages. I have a larger much louder 5500w contractors generator that plugs into a 12-circuit transfer switch wired by an electrician, but as a courtesy to neighbors I shut that off overnight. I can use this Yamaha unit with an extension cord to keep just the refrigerator running overnight and it stays in 'eco mode' so it practically purrs. Also the fuel burn rate is extremely low so it uses a fraction of what the larger generator would use.

Have had zero problems with this unit so far.

This generator is super quiet and the engine runs really smoothly. It instantly changes it's operating speed just as fast as I can move the speed switch on a 1850 watt hair dryer I used to test it. It doesn't include oil and the angle of the oil fill hole is nearly horizontal, making it a little difficult to fill even with a funnel, but they did put a nice little drip tray right below the opening so it doesn't go everywhere. The gas gauge is really nice. Made in Japan. Their competitor (Honda) has some nice videos on their website demonstrating the sound level of actual generators running and the equivalent size Honda generator is very close in noise level to this one. Yamaha should do the same but until then, check out the Honda website.

Yamaha says this is CARB compliant on their website so I'm not sure why Amazon says it isn't. The label on the generator says it is a 3 on the 10 point California emission scale. Yamaha simply isn't making a big deal of it like some others do I suppose. This is a new model as of summer 2009. The starter cord is really easy to pull unlike any other engine I've ever started by hand.

This little gem arrived to me in perfect condition. Kudos to Amazon for their quick delivery time. The genny itself is bigger than the pictures let on, but for 2000watts, this isn't bad at all. THESE UNITS DO NOT COME WITH OIL IN THEM. Go buy some 4 stroke 10w30 oil at home depot or lowes. Follow the instructions to put the oil in, fill it gas, and turn it on. The pull cord is very easy. Just practice a couple of times. You will love this generator, I promise. I will use it for my travel trailer for camping/fishing during the colder months.

Edit: I've had two EFYamaha 2000is generators since the beginning of Sept, 2010 and have mainly used them for camping. The first workout for both of these units was tailgating. I also have a cord that connects the 2 of them to make 4000 watts, more than enough to power your camper A/C (13,000-15,000btu) and everything else in the RV. However, it was colder on this outing and I didn't need to use both hooked together yet. I did bring both of them though and I'm glad I didhere's why:

The guy next to me brought his 6000watt Champion generator, which is construction grade, and told me he was sorry, but would be running it in the mornings. We were about 15 feet away from him. I said no problem, it couldn't be that loud. He then turned it on for me so I could see. WOW! That thing was LOUD. I told him I brought a spare Yamaha inverter and he was welcome to use mine because I told him it would be much quieter. He came over and heard mine running and couldn't believe it. The next morning we were both sleeping soundly, both of us running these awesome Yamaha units.

Here are some tips for those considering this generator:

1) Get some fuel stabilizer. This is not needed, but is nice because it stabilizes stagnant fuel that sits around during the winter monthsor just longer periods where the generator is not in use. I use Stabil, and its sold here on Amazon. Put some in your gas can(s).

2) If a generator has been sitting around awhile, you need to run it periodically ( I will run mine about once a month for at least 10 minutes) to 'exercise' the unit. This will ensure that when you REALLY need it, it will start no problem.

3) Tie these units down when in transport. They tip over easy and if they do, when you start them up you will be greeted with a mess of white smoke (oil burn) until it burns off. Buy some ratchet tie downs. Bungee cords won't cut it.

4) Realize the limitations of a 2000 watt generator. I don't know how this got started, but someone somewhere said his 2000 watt genny was powering everything they needed without being specific. Then folks just assumed that they would get the same results. You HAVE to do a power audit for YOUR specific needs. What will you be powering? What is the main purpose of the unit? If you have an RV with a 15k A/C, one 2000watt will NOT power it on. Remember, air conditioners, microwaves, etc take pull a lot of AMPS to cycle on. Once they are on, the AMPS are reduced during the rest of the run time. The trick is, what will power these appliances THROUGH the higher amperage cycle? Thats why I bought 2 of them.

5) Buy a cable lock! Generators tend to grow legs and walk away when they are not locked down. This is more true when you camp with them or tailgate. A lock is not totally foolproof, but will deter the 'honest' thief enough to make it not worth it.

Yep, they are pricey. I paid about 2K for both of them. Inverters are always going to cost more money for several critical reasons.

A) They are labor-intensively constructed. That is, they are built to insulate and are very tightly arranged in their cases. The insulation provides a lot of the lower decibels you will be hearing. Good things just take time to make, and part of the cost is wrapped up in that.

B) Portability: This goes back to the tightly constructed package they come in. The 2000is model weighs about 45 pounds minus the gas. Try going to a Home Depot and lifting a construction grade generator. Not fun.

I purchased the EF2000iS 2,000 watt inverter-generator for extended fishing trips for charging 12 volt marine batteries and for running corded power tools in remote areas. At first I wasn't sure if the 2,000 watt model would be enough power to meet my needs, but I decieded to take a chance with it because of the price, and boy am I glad I did.

It easily powers drills, grinders, skill saws, table saws, sawzalls, and portable cement mixers pretty much anything that draws under 16.7 Amps. Most power tools draw up to and under 15 Amps. My industrial right-angle concrete drill only draws 8 Amps, and that thing is rugged. It's more than enough for my needs for working in the woods where I can't just "Plug In."

Another thing that's slick about it is it also charges marine batteries and has its own special DC receptical and comes with the included cable. You just fire it up, hook up the terminals to your battery, then plug in the cord. It doesn't have a charge meter built in, so I purchased a hand held battery tester and check the charge level once an hour. I think the battery tester was under $30 (a good investment).

With that in mind, I used it last Memorial Day weekend during our Men's Family Fishing Trip out at Johnston Pond camp here in Maine, out in the woods roughing it with tents. The area is surrounded with small-ish ponds, so my dad and I brought our little skiff and trolling motor with us (too small ponds for our larger, 2-stroke boat). We brought two 12 volt marine batteries with us to make sure we could spend the whole day out each day, then that evening charge one or the other up so it was ready for the next day. It worked great, we didn't have to worry about running our batteries low and having to paddle all the way back to the landing. Peace of mind is nice.

This unit really is really quiet. There were five of us on the fishing trip, two younin's my friend and I, and three old farts my dad, uncle, and elderly cousin. They complain about everything (old people tend to do that, haha). I figured someone was going to say something about the generator being noisey and I'd catch hell for it or something, but actually, everyone did nothing but praise how quiet it was. After it's been running for 15 minutes or so, you kind of forget that it's even there. Unlike our neighbors at a site a ways away from us, who had an old style generator that they ran at night, we could hear them having to hollar at each other in order to talk.

On top of all that goodness, since it's an Inverter as well, you can also safely power computers, charge cell phones and iPods, run a tv and DVD player, and plenty of other things, if that's what you're into while camping, or in an emergency situation.

It starts up really easy. Mine started first pull right out of the box (make sure to put oil in it first, it's not included), and still does every time. If you run it on Eco Mode (tv's, appliances, ect.) I'm not sure how long the tank will last you hour-wise, I haven't used it for that application yet, but in full power mode, meaning you're constantly getting the amped up rpms for more amperage, the one gallon tank lasts for about 6 hours or so. I'd figure that it'd almost double that in Eco mode, and it's twice as quiet. You can stand right next to it and it's like a little humm.

I give the Yamaha EF2000iS five stars hands down for the price and performance. I'm really happy I didn't go ahead and go with a knock off lesser brand. It was well worth the extra money for something that's going to be reliable and dependable. There's no sense in paying $500 or less for something that's just going to be junk in a few months.

If you need a medium duty Inverter-Generator, I highly recomend it. You will enjoy it. It's also very light and compact. Transporting it isn't a problem at all.

Received this product and filled with oil and gas and it started on the third pull. All subsequent times it has started on the first pull of the starter cord. More money than a comparable Honda 2000 but it has a number of advantages.

1. All controls are on one side on an integrated simple control panel including the starter pull. Honda controls are scattered on both sides.

Much easier operation in confined spaces.

2. Has a very visible fuel gage. Not supplied on the Honda

3. Has a carb fuel shut-off which allow you run the fuel system dry for storage. No such system on the Honda

4. The carb bowl has a drain screw and drain tube to remove all remaining fuel-if any. No easy carb drain on Honda.

5. Unit weighs over 50 lbs with a full fuel tank and oil but lighter than a Honda and every pound is important when carrying this weight.

6. Overall service and maintenance is very easy.

7. Low pollution total operating hours are twice the Honda

8. Larger carry handle.

9. Very quiet at all speeds extremely quiet at the eco throttle or low speeds/low loads.

Researched the low cost Chinese knock-offs and there really is no comparison from a noise and weight factor. The comparable Honeywell and Kipor etc are about ten pounds heavier for comparable output specs. Ten pounds additional is about 60 lbs wet and 20% difference but a huge amount when carrying any distance.

Overall well worth the money for an extremely well designed quality product that is Yamaha's reputation. Amazon service and delivery was spot on as usual.

Cellet Desktop Cradle Charger For Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S)

Cellet Desktop Cradle Charger For Samsung CaptivateI had previously purchased the official Samsung docking station which offers a landscape fit to accommodate the mini USB port at the top of the phone. I use that docking station in the bedroom because it is so easy to insert it into the dock.

But I wanted a vertical docking station to sit next to my PC. I purchased this one but quickly found that the phone is held extremely tight by the plastic insert -to enable the phone to sit upright. I imagine that was a design decision so the phone does not -cannot -"wiggle" when the user accesses the screen. However, the fit is so tight that removing the phone from the docking station is quite difficult and usually causes the back cover of the phone (the battery cover) to come loose. This is certainly an inconvenience and the designers should think of some other way to secure the phone tightly.

Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red

Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red Text Display
  • Battery-powered radar/laser detector provides up to 15 hours operation on a single charge (power cord and rechargeable batteries provided).
  • Provides 360-degree alerts for selectable radar and laser signals, POP mode alerts, and Safety Warning System alerts.
  • New and improved red OLED text display provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation.
  • VG-2 cloaking technology makes you invisible to radar detector detectors; 3 City Modes and Highway Mode for reducing false alerts; dim/dark mode
  • One-year warranty

Who's the joker who gave this a 1 star review? My experience with this item is a 5 star one. Here are my thoughts.

Pros:

Scans for so many types of detection K, X, Ka, VG2, Laser... I've seen them all go off in just a few days. I had no idea there were so many cops around!

alerts you in order so the most advanced speed detection system is prioritized over the lower ones.

Detects signals from cops I can't even see and I'm on a motorcycle, so I'm taller than cars and can look in all directions. So, basically it's picking up signals from a few blocks away.

gives you signal strength of radar etc from 1 to 9 so you know if they're right up your ass or a few blocks away AMAZING!

legal :)

fits to my screen easily with the enclosed suction attachment. Was a bit nervous about it falling off but I've been over some major bumps and so far all good.

-contrary to the 1-star fool the batteries that come with it last a good amount of time, as do my other rechargeable batteries that I use with it. Don't know what he's on about.

display is bright and easy to see

flashes an 'all-clear' when the signal goes away.

Cons:

errrmmm... racking my brain to think of one... my only addition would be a headphone socket so I didn't have to rely on glancing at the display (bit loud on a motorcycle to always hear the voice forget it on freeway).

Case-study

I was a little dubious before I bought this that it would work, but it really does. I tested this on day one by flying past a stationary cop in traffic. Sure enough he starts to follow me. I cruise at the speed limit and within 10 seconds I am alerted the exact moment he switches on his radar gun to track my speed. I ride on. Since I did nothing but obey the the law and speed limits, after a mile or so he gets bored and peels off. System gives the 'all-clear', and away we go. I couldn't ask for more for what I feel is a very reasonable price a just under at hundred bucks. Get one! :)

Like the different filters to tune out traffic sensing radar. Seems pretty sensitive to real radar from cop cars. The vg2 went off a few times already. You have to keep in mind that when vg2 is detected the local oscillator In the detector shuts down for 30 seconds to avoid detection by the cops. So even though it shuts down of corse u know there are cops around. It's a keeper.

I have owned two other Whistler radar detectors and the XTR-445 is much more sensitive than the others and the ability to use it without the power cord is the main reason that I bought this model.

Want Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red Discount?

Seemed to work great, would detect radar with more than enough time to slow down, about the same range as my old Passport. Didn't seem to have any more false alarms than my Passport, in fact there were a couple spots on my daily commute where the Passport would false, but the Whistler would remain silent. This was using the Highway mode on both. They don't use Laser around here luckily, so I can't comment on that.

Batteries seemed to be good for about 5 hours before they would read 25% left. That was good enough to last the week for my dailt commute to work, but if it sat unused for 2 days after re-charging, it would drop to 75% without ever being turned on, dropping the life to about 3 hours. Not great for any trips, don't forget the cord, or some spare batteries. I had planned to replace the cheap chinese batteries with better quality rechargeables to see if that would extend battery life.

Got in the car yesterday and turned it on, it goes through the entire test sequence, and then says "NO BATT" and shuts itself off. How can it turn on if there are no batteries? I tried charging it overnight, even tried a different set of batteries. Same results.

JR is paying return shipping to exchange it, so I will try another. Hopefully it has a longer life span. I can highly recommend JR music world, great service.

UPDATE 9/11/2012: I received the replacement from J&R a couple of days ago. The batteries that came with this one are garbage, and will only run the unit for about an hour before the charge runs out. I have tried regular alkalines (DO NOT charge these!) and it shows 50% battery life after 8 hours. I have some Eneloops on order to fix the low battery life. Just a warning that if you do buy this unit, plan on replacing the batteries right out of the box.

I was very satisfied with the way it responds so quickly to any detection. The only negative thing I have to say about it is, the battery life does not last long at all. I can get about an hour to maybe an hour and fifteen minutes use out of it before the low battery beep goes off. Other than that, I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, yet affordable radar detector.

Generac 5943 GP7500E 7,500 Watt Generator with Electric Start

Generac 5943 GP7500E 7,500 Watt Generator with Electric StartAfter our recent tornadoes we decided the ability to have hot showers etc warranted the purchase of a portable generator. Calculated the watts we needed and we needed the top end of the portables.

Looked at several and ordered what I thought was a GP8000 however got a GP7500. Amazon adjusted the price as they will not accept anything that may contain gasoline back even unopened. Amazon now has the right one listed.

Assembly was easy attached wheels handle etc no prpblems with assembly and it fired up and ran smoothly. There is a quirk you should be aware of. The generator does not recharge the starter battery. It takes a seperate plug in charger to keep the generator's battery charged.

Alredy had the house set up to simply flip switchs and have it on generator power but before we plugged it in the house circuit I decided to plug some 110 volt tools into it to test it. My Bosch drill ran and sparked like I had never seen before so I decided to get the volt meter out. Good thing this unit was generating 170 volts. Talking about frying electronics or just about anything else in the house! HOT HOT HOT!

Contacted Generac and was told to take it to the nearest repair station which is a 180 mile round way trip for delivery and picking back up.

Loaded the beast up in the truck with my motorcycle ramp. If you do not have a pick up truck/SUV/trailer plus at least three helpful neighbors or a ramp you may have just bought an exoensive boat anchor. Delivered it to the repair station and the three techs helped unload.

It has now been six weeks waiting for the unit to be repaired and all I am getting is we ordered the parts.

If you have a pick up, tie downs, a ramp, an accesible repair center and a couple of months to wait for warranty repairs then you might want to consider buying a Generac generator. If any of the previous does not apply to you then consider getting a brand that is sold in a brick and motar place so if you have a problem you could swap or get a refund for a defective unit.

One final bit of advice; before buying use a usage list to calculate how much watts you will need. Keep in mind that most transfer switchs only handle 7,500 watts if you need more power to run your basics.

Purchased this generator locally here in CT in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

No power for 5 days, this genset is running 15 hours per day with no issue whatsoever.

I have it back-fed into my breaker panel, powering well pump, refridgerators, lights, microwave, garage door openers, dsl modem, wifi and complete home network.

I've been getting 14 hours of run time from a single tank of gas, call it 10 gallons. More than I thought possible. Last night, ran a bunch of appliances, trying to max the genset out, and after 5 hours, had used only 2.5 gallons of gas.

The genset is noisy, but I've got behind a pool shed, so it doesn't bother us much at all.

Highly recommended. Make sure to buy the NEMA 30 Amp plug, part number NEMA 14L 30P when you order this so you can plug directly in to the 220v side of the generator.

Update. Today is 11/12/11. Here in CT, we're just coming off of an 8 day power outage as a result of a large snowstorm. This time we really needed power in order to run the heat in our house, as it was 30 degrees for several days. Luckily we had this generator fueled up and ready to go after buying it for Irene.

It ran flawlessly 24 hours / day for 8 days. It consistently ran between 12 and 14 hours on a full fuel tank of 8 gallons. I'm happy to say we had enough extra juice to run a 250' extension cord to our neighbors house for lights and a small heater. I now have 250 hours on the clock.

I run this generator in our small 10'x12' pool shed, and have fabricated an exhaust pipe extension to run the exhaust out of the building.

Highly recommended for cheap (buy noisy) back-up power

Ordered this after 4 power outages this summer, not to mention the outage last winter that was 3 days in 10-15 degrees F. Overall this unit is impressive for the price per watt. I was hoping that this generator was made in Wisconsin but it is not. Rather it is made in China. That being said there are high quality products that come out of China, you just have to find them. Assembling the unit only took about 20 minutes.

Here are some quick specs:

The engine is a 420cc, 14HP air cooled 4-stroke with overhead valves (OHV) w/electric start (battery included). The surge rating is 9375W with a 7500W running watts rating. The fuel tank holds 8 gallons and is rated 12 hours @ half load for run time.

Here is an easy way to assemble the unit:

1. First was remove it from the box by cutting the box off and leaving the generator on the pallet. This will assist with the next step installing the wheels.

2. Remove the (2) axles from the package with hardware (nuts, bolts, and a (1) litre bottle of SAE30 motor oil). You will also need the two cotter pins, and two flat washers. Here is a trick I found when installing the axles. One axle will not fit so that the cotter pin end is inside the wheel due to a lower motor mount. I can not remember which side it was, but you will see it. So the trick is to put one axle in one direction, and the other axle in the reverse. This means that the motor mount side will have the cotter pin so it is not viewable in the center of the wheel when looking from the side. The other side will have the cotter pin viewable from the side. The other option is to jack up the engine (very carefully) and remove the motor mount so the axle can be installed. Whichever method you choose remember to install a thin film of grease as the wheels are without axle bearings.

3. Next I would suggest adding the motor oil. I have this step as third because the unit needs to be on a flat level surface to confirm that the 1.06 Quart (one litre) bottle of oil is sufficent to fill the oil to the proper full level. Remove the yellow dipstick tube along the bottom of the engine in the front of the unit. Empty the entire bottle slowly. I had to use a funnel as it is awkward to add oil with out spilling it due to the bottle and the angle of attack that must be used to fill the engine oil. After the oil is installed screw in the dipstick and unscrew it to confirm that is to the top on the stick on FULL.

4. Add some fuel (unleaded 85 octane rating or higher)

5. Make sure the fuel valve OFF for now, side to side is OFF and up and down is ON.

6. Either use the electric start (battery should have a charge as mine did) or use the recoil-start to turn the engine over 4-5 times (you don't want it to start yet). The purpose of this step is to properly lubricate the internal engine parts before the engine starts. This is not even mentioned in the manual, but if you want it to last a long time I would highly suggest this step. This is not a pressurized oil system (there is no oil filter to filter the oil and no pump to spray oil in vital areas). This type of air-cooled engine works by slinging oil off from the crankshaft located at the bottom of the engine to lubricate the piston and other moving parts such as bearings. The Amazon description when I bought mine said it was a pressurized system but I knew it was incorrect because I looked up the info on Generac's website.

7. Now you can turn the fuel valve ON (give it a few seconds to fill the carburator bowl) then also move the choke to the left which is the ON position. Make sure the switch is set to RUN if pull starting, and Start if your using your electric start. One interesting thing you may want to know about the battery is that the generator on this model does not charge the battery. The unit does come with a small charger that plugs into the front of the switch panel and into a regular 120 volt outlet. You will need to charge the battery ocassionaly to keep it ready to start the generator. Overall not a big deal.

8. Now step 8 is up to you, but I would suggest reading the manual when you have time. Also make sure to install a ground cable and also get a auto-transfer switch, if you will be hooking this to your meter or fuse box. For us the cheapest option for the transfer switch was to call our electric coop that installs the switch for free, but you need to buy $550 transfer switch. By using the transfer switch you will not need a bunch of extension cords running all over and getting shut under a door. All your normal outlets and appliances, well pumps, washer/dryer all still plug into the house normally through the outlets. Now you wont be able to run all that stuff at once with this unit but there are some generators that can. One cord is then run into the fuse box (consult an electrician) or installed into your meter (call your provider to see if they offer a auto-transfer switch, this saved us at least $2000 versus the electrician/fuse box option. So that's it other than the silly stuff like don't ever use it indoors, or in confined spaces and read the manual!

Hope this help some in making the decision. Overall thanks Amazon.com for an outstanding transaction from price to delivery. Took awhile to get to me but with free shipping I sure didn't mind. Very good quality unit that is made in China. Remember folks they make good quality stuff and bad quality stuff just like any where else, but from my experience this is a very good generator for the price. Remember to change that oil after the first 30 hours, and after that you are safe to go 100 hours between an oil change according to Generac. The hour meter will remind you when its time to do the scheduled maintenence, see the manual on hour to clear it after maintenance if you plan on doing this yourself.

Best of luck and I know you will like it. Quit reading all the reviews and just get it. Wish I would have had mine 5 power outages ago...

I just purchased Generac GP7500E generator with electric start. Although there are 12 volts on the battery terminals, and I recharged it twice to make sure, nothing happens when I push the start switch. Generac referred me to a local repair shop. The shop will look at my generator but I will have to pay for transportation from and back to my home. Generac will not reimburse me for this expense necessary to fix their faulty brand new product. They said they will not take the malfunctioning product back either. Generac took my money when I bought their product. Now, I have to pay more money to get their product fixed before I even started using it.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this brand as they will not support their product. I purchased a generac generator because it was highly recommended by a friend. It arrived in an un-damaged box strapped to a wooden pallet but when I started to assemble it I noticed damage to the starter housing. When I contacted generac they had me take it to one of their service centers, they informed me that if the repair wasn't approved by the manufacturer that I would be charged, needless to say this concerned and infuriated me. When I contacted generac again they tried to blame the shipper for the damage and told me that it would depend on what the repair shop said. After the service center examined the generator and agreed that the damage had to have occurred prior to being packaged and shipped generac still refused to repair the generator. It hasn't run and hasn't even had fluid in it; and they refuse to make it operational. They say that I have to go through the shipper to get it repaired. Well it's going back to generac and I will be buying another brand, maybe a Briggs and Stratton. They don't even seem to care that they will be loosing a customer. So do yourself a favor and avoid this brand as they will not support their product.

eForCity Three-Way Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Splitter, Black

eForCity Three-Way Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Splitter, Black
  • Convert and increase your car cigarette lighter from 1 to 3 sockets.
  • Simply plug into car's cigarette lighter socket.
  • Run multiple accessories at one time.
  • Very convenient and easy to use.
  • Triple socket with 12V / 24V output.

I bought this 3 months ago and I plugged my GPS, my FM transmitter, and my Ipods charger in all at the same time. I was sketchy on getting this because everyone said it blew a fuse but that never happened with me. Maybe you just can't have too many things using power. Your lighter outlet is only made for a certain amount of watts. Like an electrical outlet, if you have too many things plugged in, it's going to blow a fuse. So you can't be upset at the product. Cigarette lighters are meant to run small things.

Another plus for me is that it sticks out since the cigarette lighter in my 90 New Yorker is a little pushed back.

UPDATE:

After having it for about a year now it still works fine!

This worked very well, until one day I had three things plugged in and running at once (that's the point, right?) and I started to smell something burning/melting. I quickly pulled it out, and smoke was emitting from its end. Now it's worthless.

I plugged an air pump into this thing and it immediately burned out. Whoops. Wish I would have known. For the price, I may try again...and now I know. But, be forewarned.

It is very hard to get this splitter plugged into my cigarette lighter then after I did get it plugged in, I can't get the adjustable arm tight enough to hold anything I plug into it stable. I have only plugged in my iPod FM transmitter but no matter how tight I turn the screw, the whole thing slowly slides down were I can't see the iPod display. I have not tried to plug more than one thing into this but after reading other reviews, I think I am afraid to do so.

Kawasaki 840057 Black 19.2-Volt 2-Tool Combo Kit

Kawasaki 840057 Black 19.2-Volt 2-Tool Combo KitI bought this set for general home use and for use during mission projects working on flood, hurricane, or tornado damaged homes. It's first use was on a flood damaged home in Cedar Rapids, IA, and the drill performed very well and was used constantly. The battery lasted a long time with the drill and seemed to have plenty of torque. The reciprocating saw worked alright, but does lack the power of a plug-in saw, and the battery power runs out pretty rapidly if you try to saw 2 x 4's with it. It did do a decent job on screws and nails using the saw blade for metal. It is somewhat of a pain to change the saw blades, requiring one to reach a hex wrench inside a slot and find the screw that tightens on the saw blade.

For the price, I think it was a good buy for me.

i bought this for small jobs around the house. arter i charged for for 12 hours i cut several small branchs to a manageable lenght and it ran low on power. tryed to recharge the battery and it would not take a charge. want a piece of junk, buy one of these.
