Whistler Pro-200W 200 Watt Power Inverter

I am really surprised that there are no reviews for this great power inverter, I have seen it in Radioshack some time ago for 39.99$ and almost bought it there. Amazon offered much better price so I went for it. I have used it once in the camping trip last week and it performed great, we used it to power up the laptop computer and the drop light with 20Wat neon light in the tent. It is surprisingly well made for 20 bucks, solid aluminum convenient size casing, fan is quiet and it comes on and off intermittently as needed, it gives you a signal if your battery is getting low so you not drain it completely.I would reccomend this nice piece of equipment for a friend. I have no I idea how long it will last but for now it made my wife and kids happy :)

This inverter provides a "Modified sine wave," not a true sine wave (if you hook this up to an oscilloscope, the waveform will be boxy instead of smooth). This isn't advertised on Amazon's page, nor on other websites. It is in the user manual. Some applications may be very finicky, so do some research on your particular device before you buy.

Also in the manual was that this inverter will automatically shut off if the load is too much. It will source more than 200 watts for 10 seconds for start up applications (e.g. motors). The manual said it will draw

Schumacher SE-3010 Fast Charge Starter Charger

The first thing you notice when this charger/starter arrives at your door is the weight. Yes you can carry it around but it is by no means light weight. At about 10lbs this is no plastic toy. Its got a heavy metal case, sizable clamps, and a plastic handle on top. The dial is a simple twist from 6v 30amp to 12v 10amp to 12v 30amp to Start 12v 200amp. The manual is a small booklet full of the usual warnings, a step by step on proper jumper placement, and a table to calculate how long to leave a battery on the device. It is manual and will not shut itself off so you can damage a battery with this thing. Of course it is manual so you don't get the usual faulty responses either (I consider this a pro).

Ok so it isnt the cheapest pannel of this type and size that you can get, you already know that.

so what is different about it? how well does it work?

Unlike some other epoxy covered PCB mounted solar cell items this one is much lighter, it is not a thick coat epoxy style.

this makes it much better for portability.

when weight is important this mid sized multicell pannel was a good choice.

and if your worried about it getting scratched, you can put a very thin piece of vinyl on top (often sold at the wallymart for a few bucks for a whole yard) that will cut output about 5-8% and makes it impervious.

the one i got speced out correctally, the array in there doesnt waste a lot of space , like some arrays with too much gap between cell items.

I put this one on top of a GPS device with an acrylic hinge, and connected a diode and a protection curcuit to use it to charge a oversized battery in the unit. it now forms 3 functions.

1) charges the unit. if it sits inside on the window sil and catches a bit of light, the unit is now self sustaining for minor use. If i put it outside it could fully charge the FAT oversized 5amp li-poly cell in 2 days of brutal california sun. If i go walking with it in the sun, it runs the gps unit non-stop forever :-)

the hinge allows it to be aimed into the sun, and to shade the battery/unit.

2) caps the screen, via the hinge when i close the unit up it is now the top cap covering the screen. not the most durable cover i could put over the screen , but the most funtional one :-)

3) Is a Sun hood , or shade, so when gpsing in the sun it keeps the unit charged and the sun off the unit at the same time.

connections on these were at the "ends" of course to get power off the cell items, and the back of the PCB there is foil traces bringing the power to the Center of the pannel for a good location for connection.

probably be good for solar charger , and solar car projects and lots of other stuff you can think of.

lightweight, still good quality glass cell items, assembled at the voltage as speced.

that about covers it. It did not dissapoint.

Optima Batteries 8012-021 D34 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery

I decided to order this battery through Amazon since it was about $50 cheaper than local retailers. Since I've never purchased a car battery online, I called Amazon and Optima to ask how a warranty claim would work when the battery was purchased through Amazon. The people I spoke with gave me some very surprising information, which I thought I'd share with you:

1. Amazon only accepts returns for up to 30 days after the item was purchased. After 30 days, the customer will be referred to the manufacturer of the item.

2. Optima refers all online purchases back to the original retailer. The full warranty cannot be honored through Optima unless the battery was purchased from one of Optima's authorized online retailers. The authorized retailers are shown on Optima's site; Amazon is not one of them.

3. Optima is unable to honor any warranty for batteries purchased through Amazon because Optima is unaware of the condition of the batteries, the shipping procedures, how long the batteries have been in a warehouse, etc.

The Optima Yellow Top series are arguably some of the best auto batteries currently on the market, but the money saved by buying from Amazon clearly isn't worth the almost nonexistent warranty.

I was hesitant to buy this because of all the reviews saying the battery was poorly packaged and would arrive damaged. Knowing Amazon has a good returns policy, I took the chance and ordered it.

I'm in NY and the battery was shipped by truck cross country (I watched the tracking updates). It took about a week for it to arrive.

When I finally received it, I realized I was lucky. The battery was in good condition with no breaks or scratches on it. At the same time, it came in a simple cardboard box with some cushioning on top, but nothing on the bottom. This is a very heavy item and it's very easy to visualize the bottom of the battery getting damaged during a long truck ride as there is no protection whatsoever between the bottom of the battery and the 1/4 inch cardboard box it comes in.

I don't get it, sometimes they go overboard & package the most trivial of items in styrofoam and bubble wrap, and with this 50lb. item it's basically just covered in 1/4 inch of cardboard.

The battery itself seems fine ...started my car up fine (although I can't comment on it over the long term just yet).

I bought eight of the Optima yellow top batteries for house batteries in a sailboat for the convenience of AGM, no fill, no spill, etc. These batteries are charged by a state of the art 4 stage regulator, plus solar panels on a microprocessor charge controller. The batteries are all in one bank and charged/discharged equally and never below 85%. In other words they are pampered. Now the bad, one battery failed within a week of installation. It started gassing and heating up even under a light charge. After about a year another one developed an internal short and its voltage dropped to around 8V. It was easy to detect by just touching the top. It was warmer than the rest. Six months after that, two more developed internal shorts with the same symptoms. These batteries are over rated. It appears that the build quality from battery varies widely. I will never buy another one.

Everything I had hoped for in a car battery.. strong cold cranking amps and a huge reserve capacity. My lights don't dim anymore when the bass on my stereo hits hard or when the AC is running. East Coast Photo, Liberty Photo, who? Amazon lists it both ways. My packing slip says Liberty, so they and Amazon take the ding. It could have been returned to Amazon that way and they just "re-gifted" it. No way of knowing.

I purchased this mini charger, along with two matching Synergy CRV3 battery packs, for use in my wife's Olymmpus, FL-36R, off-camera electronic flash. The flash normally uses 2 AA alkaline cells. The CRV3 pack is equivalent in voltage and physical size to the 2 AA's. According to the Olympus manual, using lithium-ion packs, or lithium AA cells, will result in shorter recyling time between shots. (The Olympus brand charger and CRV3 packs are no longer available that we could find.) Anyway, the charger worked fine and both Synergy packs charged up as expected. HOWEVER, the Synergy battery packs WILL NOT OPERATE the flash unit! Put 2 AA's in and it works fine. Put the CRV3 pack in and... nothing! A multimeter test showed both packs at the required full-charge voltage of 3.9 volts. Seems the pack contacts are not mating properly with those in the flash body. With plastic guides limiting your choices for insertion, it is impossible to install them any way but the right way. We eventually gave up and purchased NON-rechargable lithium AA cells which work fine, although a bit pricey. So, we have a nice little charger and two battery packs that, right now, we can't use.

This charger works amazing, fast charge in both car and home, but the cable went to crap only a week after buying and I had to buy a new cable. The charger does wobble loose in the car's cig lighter slot, but not often and usually on dirt roads. I would defiantly recommend this for this price. Wow! Two drills, standard and impact. Small yet powerful for a 14.4 volt drill. Well balanced and ergonomically shaped for those big jobs. Drills have a belt hook if you are in need of an extra hand or, if not, you can remove the hook altogether. The drills have a built in light that is readily available at the push of a button, located on the base. It is unfortunate that the LED light does not come on automatically like the Makita BTD142HW. The impact drill was impressive when I used it to replace the garage door rails. Battery life is much better than expected, the drill has a low battery alert so that you can swap out batteries without the surprise of a dead battery in the middle of drilling something. Battery charger is over engineered, however, is pretty straight forward once you read the instructions a second time. The batteries are quick to charge too. After one day of use, my initial reaction is this is a product which does as advertised...it seems to work fine with my LG chocolate touch. The low cost indicates one should handle this product with care when inserting and removing from the car adapter and the phone itself. After all, who can say how well it's made? Put the device in cigarette lighter. After a moment, made a loud noise. Put car in drive, and Shift gear knocked against device. After that, the device made lots more noise, as the fan inside was dislodged. Now, the device is extremely loud, so I deem it worthless. Product works and functions like it should.... the product came loose with out the box or the Remote Display that plugs into the Converter.. The serial number was scratched off the product but a note to and from the manufacturer said they would cover warranty.... An email to the supplier got the Remote Display mailed to me..
