This compact and foldable 2.1 A (2100 mA) charger can QUICKLY charge Kindle Fire or Apple iPad/iPad2 (you need a different cable for each one). It is NOT one of those "ordinary" USB chargers that outputs only 0.5 A of current.

The Kindle Fire requires just 1.8A of charging current, so this charger is fine (1.8 < 2.1). It is functionally the same as Apple's 10 Watt USB charger which outputs 2.1 A, so it is also suitable for charging the iPad.

You also need to buy a $6 AmazonBasics USB Cable 2.0 A Male to Micro B (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters). Do not use one intended for your cellphone; it may not work.

The total cost is $16, still much cheaper than the dedicated Kindle charger which sells for $25. Apple's 10W charger costs $35.

You enjoy better utility with this charger/cable combo because they are separate, and the charger prong is foldable.

Additionally, the micro USB cable can be used for copying files from your computer to the Fire, and vice versa. This is the kind of cable (USB 2.0 on one end and micro USB on the other) that some reviewers were saying that Amazon should have included in the Fire box.

The main draw of this AmazonBasics USB wall charger is the 2100 mA current output, which is required for most modern smartphones and iPad/iPad2. You get these gadgets charged the fastest with this charger.

But the shape of this charger will BLOCK adjacent power outlets if it is plugged into the wall or even an extension power strip. In this respect, it is really not an improvement over Apple's 10W USB Power Adapter.

This is why I also bring along a Ziotek ZT1212518 Power Strip Liberator Plus with Pass Through, 5-Pack when I travel. It will allow all outlets to be used by extending the plug a few inches. With its pass through feature, a normal plug can be piggybacked on top of the extender plug, thereby doubling plug density (from 6 plugs to 12 plugs, for example), although the total power consumption still cannot exceed 1680 watts. It comes in a pack of 5, and the average cost is $2.65. I consider this a small price to pay for more convenience and flexibility.

In summary, I do recommend this AmazonBasics charger because it works, is well-made, and costs only 1/3 the price of Apple's part.

UPDATE 26 NOV 2012: I received one of these for review purposes and have liked it so much I've since bought 4 more as my all purpose charger. I use them primarily with a few of my Raspberry Pi Model B Revision 2.0 (512MB) units, a couple of tablets, and my Blackberry. Great all purpose unit (but still check the specifications).

USB wall chargers will have two "Output" values clearly printed on them, albeit in really tiny letters. This charger is listed as:

Output: 5.0 VDC / 2100 MA (5.0 volts Direct Current / 2100 milliamps or 2.1 amps)

Before getting an extra, or a replacement, charger for your device, check the output values listed on your existing charger, or check the documentation for the device you will be charging. You can't go wrong if you purchase a charger with the exact volts and amps as indicated (though higher amps is OK see below). An output of 1.0 to 2.0 amps is fairly common for many tablets. The 5.0 volts DC is also pretty common for a lot of devices.

If your device requires a charger with lower amperage, such as a cell phone, this could still charge it. You can ALWAYS use a wall charger with higher amperage than your device requires. Devices PULL the amperage they need, so if your phone requires 500 MA (1/2 of an ampere) and you have this 2.1 amp charger, the extra amperage won't hurt it it will just be there for extra capacity. Too much amperage is not a problem.

Since this product doesn't come with an attached cable, so long as you get a cable with a standard USB plug to attach to the charger, and the other end the correct size, you should be able to charge a lot of different products. For example, my Android tablet uses a non-standard 30 pin USB connector (the kind Apple iPads and iPhones use). I use this quite nicely for my Le Pan TC 970 Android Tablet which has a factory USB wall charger rated at 1.0 amps. With a micro USB cable, I've also used this product to power, and charge, my 500 MA (0.5 amp) Blackberry Curve cellphone. This does require keeping multiple cables around, and swapping them out as needed.

If the devices you want to charge require 500 milliamps or less, and they have a micro or mini USB port, you may want to consider the similar AmazonBasics Micro USB Wall Charger with Micro to Mini USB Adapter. Since that product comes with the cable attached you don't have to acquire anything extra (but you can't use it on iPads and iPhones).

This is a a solid device, 5 stars because it does what it's supposed to do. I will update and annotate over time if it turns out durability is an issue (if it breaks or falls apart I will post an update).

Some months ago I slightly mangled the USB micro connector on my Kindle Fire charger. It finally became so finicky I had to replace it. I know just any old wallwart will not work because it needs at least 1.8 watts. I searched through Amazon (my fav store for everything). I found the Amazon Basic Wall Charger with Amazon Basic USB cable. The charger specs say 5v@2.1A, the pins fold up and it can use a replaceable USB to micro cable. I ordered the pair for less than $17. I received the pair today. I am testing the charging performance. Reading reviews of the product, whether or not it is compatible with the FIRE is controversial. We shall see. I never liked the design of the charger shipped with the FIRE but I used it constantly while traveling to charge everything I have. Maybe I just wore it out.

OK, I have had it for a few hours. I recharged my KINDLE FIRE from 93% to Fully Charged while operating in about 30 minutes. I will let it fully discharge and see how long it takes to charge 100% both while operating and shut down.

August 16, 2012. I have been using the CHARGER with my Kindle Fire and LG OPTIMUS V and it is the best wall charger I have had for those devices. To charge my Kindle Fire from dead to full: I have not absolutely timed it but I know it takes less than 6 hours. I will try to time it more accurately. Kindle Fire has a weird habit of powering itself up when the charger cable is inserted, then you have to power it back off or it will not charge as fast.

November 8, 2012. My Basic Charger is no longer usable. It has become intermittent. My theory is that the folding plug is the cause. I will not buy another one and I have reduced the rating from 5 to 2. It is time to try something else.

Works with Kindle Fire, but only if you use the right "charging cable" or mod the adapter.

For those who are trying to use this with Kindle Fire, here's what you have to know: Kindle Fire tries to detect if it's O.K. to pull the full 1.8 A from whatever is plugged into its USB port, and it detects the "dumb" AC adapter by checking if the data wires (two inner conductors in USB A connector) are shorted together (because they wouldn't be on a computer, so it's a quick and dirty way to rule out being connected to a computer. This is not part of standard USB spec, but many tablet manufacturers are doing it, I guess following Apple's iPad). If the data wires are not shorted together, Fire assumes you plugged it into a computer and draws no more than 500 mA, so that it doesn't trigger protection circuits for (or burn out) the USB port.

Anyways. This adapter doesn't short the data wires itself, so if you want your Fire to charge at full speed and draw 1.8 A, you need to use a special charging cable that shorts the wires in the cable. Any USB cable you can use to transfer data is NOT a charging cable; a charging cable will be specifically marketted as one, as it cannot be used as regular USB cable and transfer data.

As for me, I don't have a charging cable, so I modded the adapter to short the data pins in the adapter, it's easy enough to open it up and do the quick soldering job (as usual, screws are under the sticker), but you need to have some experience soldering to make sure you don't break something while you are doing that.

This pair of little radios did exactly what I was looking for, and with included batteries and charger in the price were the best value I could find.

I didn't test the radios for the full 27mile range, but they worked perfect within a mile or so while camping. Reception is clear, and never ran into any issues with them not communicating. Battery life was very good.

Purchased this product but in actuality received a product with less features, when i mailed the seller i was given the worst run around ever for weeks. Finally, i grew tired of it and contacted amazon. Amazon jumped on their case and got me helped within the day.

Got these as a Christmas gift for my little brothers needless to say they opened them and threw away all the packaging and when they actually got to use them they didn't work! This item does exactly what it says it will do. It's very simple to use. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Take out of box, then plug in for 36 hours. That's it. Done! Now, after we charged it for 36 hours we took it outside to our daughters car which was dead Since May 1st, 2011. Nearly two months. I charged the unit overnight and it was amazing. I've started several cars including my sisters jeep that had been sitting with the battery dead over a month. It started the Jeep in a few seconds. We kept the engine going for 10 minutes and then stopped the car. Without it being connected to the starter/Shumacher power source, the battery was so dead that it didn't even have enough power to turn on the dome light!

(P.S. for the cynical 3 men that asked about this item; please drop the negativity and read. The internet sure can get nasty. All I was saying was in this example that my sisters battery was dead and in bad shape but the charger still started the car. After I disconnected the charger and turned off the car, not even the dome light would go on. We then put the charger back on, started it again and drove to the store to get a new battery. What good is it? It allows you to drive to wherever you need to so you can get a new battery that's why it's good. Sheesh. You keep this in your trunk and when you want to jump a car, you bring it next to your battery. Attach the positive and negative connectors to your cars battery and it starts in an instant. It is amazing. It also has a meter to show if it needs to be charged and it has a bright light that can be turned on when it's dark outside, especially during a rain storm.

If you have a child in college or at home that drives, this is a must have. With so many dangerous situations with young college girls, this can bring them piece of mind. Obviously it's for anyone; wife, husband, or child.

It also has connectors that you can run electrical appliances for various times. It's not a generator so it will be for fairly short times but it will charge a cell phone very easily.

I don't know of a product that I've been so pleased with recently. A great price, for a great product.

In this day in age no one can leave their gadgets at home, even when going camping! We just bought a used school bus that we hope to eventually convert to an RV, but for now it's just a bus..... & busses don't come with cigarette lighters! I was trying to figure out how I was going to keep all of our phones & other gadgets charged for the entire weekend, plus run our air compressor. Then I came upon the Schumacher XP400 Instant Portable Power Source. This machine is super user-friendly, versatile, & lightweight! I took it out of the box & charged it overnight as instructed & it was ready to go! I was a little concerned about how long it would last since I'd never used it before, but we camped for four days & charged four phones numerous times as well as inflating two huge air mattresses along with several smaller floats. It still had over half its charge once we got home (as indicated on the handy charge tester on the front). The spotlight on the front also came in handy! The only thing that would make this power source any better was if it included an air compressor right on it, but since I already had a portable air compressor to plug into it, it was no big deal. This is an inexpensive battery booster. No doubt it will do the job. However, it does not have an on/off switch for the cables. The cables remain hot even when clamped to their posts; I tested them with a voltmeter. This can be potentially dangerous if the battery charger is not secured in a vehicle and it rolls around in trunk. The battery cables are not very secure at all and tend to hang towards the sides. They can rub off. I can see sparks flying if the cables touch!

The positive cable tends to cover the 12 volt outlet. Very annoying. There is no cord. You must plug an extension cord into the back. The cables are quite short; they could use at least another six inches if not more.

No manual with this battery charger. You can download it from Schumacher at batterychargers.com .

Get the XP500 for $10 more. All these problems are solved and you get some more power along with a USB outlet.

I bought this back in February and had't had to use it until this morning (it's mid-November) when my car refused to start. I was a little trepidatious as there were mixed reviews when I bought it, the instructions state over and over that it needs to be recharged every 30 days and it's been at least 2 months since I last plugged it in; but I hooked it up, turned the key and vroom, my car came back to life. Could not have been simpler.

A couple minor inconveniences: The cables are awfully short, but long enough that I could connect them to the battery and rest the unit on my car frame without crossing any wires. And as others have stated, there's no cord to plug the unit in to charge it you need a 3-prong extension cord to do so, unless your outlets are situated perfectly to plug this directly into the wall.

I purchased this speakerphone in 2009 & used it twice. The people I spoke to on the phone said it sounded like I was in a fish bowl. I now have an inexpensive unit that really works. On a side note, I charged the unit once in 2009. I am now using it on a workday basis (I'm a contractor & am on the phone a lot during the day.) After one month, I am still on the same charge. The four stars is because the unit turns off when not in use (ultimately to save battery life). The unit is audible when it turns off so I just turn it back on, but there are times when this is a pain in the neck because I turn it back on frequently.

I bought this combo just for the AC and 12V-USB chargers. They both work rather well for any portable devices besides Samsung's.

The two cords I received look nothing like the photo. To me, they look like cheap, no-name knockoffs like the kind you can buy at auction sites. The price is certainly nice and cheap, but at more than 20 bucks less than a real LG my brain should have said "ripoff" instead of "bargain."

Had better gauge, at a cheaper price because of it's 3 outlet. Nice and extra long and durable. Had absolutely no problems with it. Great cable brand have bought them before. Mine did not have a safety cover for the middle plug. Which is a little annoying. But I guess if you not using any of them it shouldn't be plugged in lol.

Still great chord, no problems at all, even under very high loads chord did not even get warm.

Not at all what I expected, The USB port will not charge my IPAD, I have to plug it in to the DC port which means turning on the Fan to keep the charger cool which causes the battery to run down really quick and does not even fully charge my IPAD. ...it generates a fair amount of RF interference. If you use this in a car, you can pretty much expect that your AM radio reception will be significantly compromised, and if you use it to power a CD power or similar, unless the player itself is quite well filtered internally, you'll notice audible buzzing through the player's audio outputs (I have a Sony CD player that is really bad in this regard).

It does do a fine job of creating power, and I suppose for the price you can't really ask for a lot of internal filtering. So... the bottom line is that it's a fine product if the aforementioned limitations either don't apply to you or don't bother you.

I bought this to replace the original adapter I got with a Sony CD car kit 13 years ago, and was very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in quality. The cord is longer to avoid pulling, and is protected by a thick rubber exterior. The orginal cord I had was thin, and while it lasted 13 years, it finally snapped clean off. This current version of the adapter is much more rugged. It works great with my portable CD player, and I'm very pleased.

The Phillips portable CD adaptor stopped working (unless I pushed it into the cigarette lighter space) and happily I found the Sony, so I can continue to listen to CDs in the car. I did have to add the alternate plug, to make it fit the Phillips player & switch to the proper voltage. And all is well again. It arrived quickly from the shipper.

The Roady XT has made some major improvements over the Roady2. First and foremost, artist names and song titles will now scroll if they are longer than 16 characters. Each will scroll twice at the beginning of a song. If you need the complete name/title further into the piece, the best way to trigger the scroll again is to to hit the "display" button five times. This takes you back to the same display mode you were using, and it will begin to scroll again within a few seconds.

The sports ticker is great also. I was able to set it up for every NFL team, so there doesn't appear to be any limit on its size. It's not instantaneous, however; it takes about 2-3 minutes for an actual change in the score to be reflected in the ticker.

There is also a "Jump" button which allows you to flip to the previous channel.

The "Tuneselect" feature now allows you to search for songs not only by the song title, but by the artist name as well. This is accessed through the menu screen. You do, however, have to pick one or the other.

Another big plus: The Roady XT now gives you access to virtually the entire FM spectrum (88.1-107.9) if you want to listen via the FM modulator. The "Jump" button also comes into play here as well. If you hold it in for a few seconds, it will bring up a screen showing the last 6 FM frequencies you used. You can then use the arrow buttons to go to the one you want, then hit "Select." And by setting your in-dash radio's presets to the corresponding FM frequencies, it makes it much easier to adjust the modulator if you start running into interference as you drive.

Tip: The XM antenna also serves as the FM transmitter. If possible, place it close to your regular car antenna.

I own a Delphi SkiFi2 in my personal car and have purchased a Roady XT for my wife and sister-in-law.

The quality of the RoadyXT is excellent! The ease of installation and features it provides the user make it a great bargain. The only critique I have is that I got used to the larger display offered on the Delphi SkiFi2 which makes browsing channels easier to do. Other than that, I'd recommend a RoadyXT to anyone looking for a cheap, good quality sat radio for the car and home.

Great improvement over the Roady 2 and it is amazingly lightweight. I bought the Roady XT after trying to get a home kit for the Roady 2, only to find out the A/C adapter in the Roady 2 home kit didn't want to power up/stay in the Roady 2 (after trying 2 different kits same thing). The Roady XT is a well needed update to the previous model because it seamlessly goes back and forth between satellite and conventional AM/FM settings with a simple push of your preset button. The antenna is strong enough that I have mine inside my car and I seem to be enjoying strong enough reception. You may want your antenna outside your car as prescribed by the owner's manual, but I was concerned that the antenna would be too easy to steal or simply vandalize, so based on my installer's recommendation I had my antenna placed on the upper right windshield, inside the car.

The radio's interface is easy to use. You can scan, digitally enter desired station or use presets. The ticker feature is nice and easy to read. Also my professional installer (I recommend professional installation even though this is supposedly a "plug-and-play") said he has installed many satellite radios and he thought this one was the best he has seen.

Bear in mind all satellite radio is not a perfect technology. It's got great content but remember it's vulnerable to reception glitches in the same way that a cell phone is. Going under tunnels, bridges, for example; or driving up in the mountains or by the beach with lots of overhanging structures; even heavy cloud cover can compromise your signal. But even with its similar cell phone weaknesses, I think on balance satellite radio is a good buy, especially for long drives when you don't want to be faced with "cow pasture" radio stations.

In conclusion, the XM Roady XT, with its effortless transition between satellite and FM/AM radio, represents the best technology for this type of radio.

Post Script: Contrary to my installer's advice, the radio works better with the antenna mounted on the dash than it does in the upper right window.

Update 8/20/06: If I could do it over again, I'd only get satellite radio if it was pre-installed in the car because my installer, as a result of moving a car panel, has made a rattling sound in the side car panel, which he removed to put in the radio. Don't get one installed, only pre-installed.

Final Update on 12-15-07: I did not renew my XM subscription. As I said, the installation resulted in car rattles and vibration noise. The actual satellite sound was unacceptable: loud hissing, static, sometimes outright lack of reception, compromised fidelity even in best conditions. Living in LA, I have so many terrestial radio choices plus "radio" websites such as Pandora leave me with no desire for satellite radio.

The sound quality and reception of my Roady XT using the built-in FM transmitter is tremendous at home as well as in my car using the car antenna on my dash and on my couch. It may have something to do with living in the San Jose area though. Pretty slick little radio. I am impressed. Good job Delphi!

Midtronics PBT300 Battery Charging Starting System Tester

Please be aware that there is a kit version and a non kit version of this item. The Midtronics Web site () displays the kit version with terminal adapters needed for side terminal batteries and a storage pouch. You will not get the side terminal adapters or the storage pouch with this item from Amazon.com, or at least I didn't. I found out this information by emails from Midtronics. The shown accessories lead partly to my decision to purchase the more expensive PBT300 model. The impression that I got from Midtronics email communications is that they didn't seem to care whether or not I got the accessories. They stopped communicating. It's sort of a "They gotcha" thing.

The unit seems to work O.K.

I don't normally write reviews, but I was a bit ticked about the accessories shown under the PBT-300 specifications tab on the Midtronics web site that were not supplied. Item only rated 4 stars because of the deception. The Midtronics web site offers no distinction between "kit" and "non kit" versions as of 11/30/2009.

I bought this battery diagnostic tool so I could troubleshoot electrical systems. It cut my time in half. It is real easy and user friendly to use. I am a mechanic and I have used it over sixty times since I bought this. Great product!

Battery tester works as stated. CCA settings, however, do no line up with all battery ratings. Settings are in increments of 20 and does not line up with my battery rating.. My battery is 750 and I had a choice of 740 or 760. Go figure??

I had the $60 cheaper version and I think that it does everything that this $215 model does except tell you the top voltage for the alternator and the low voltage for the starter. JR Products 10985 Black Locking T-Handle

Fit and finish are very nice. Mounted up and works nicely and smoothly, the "but..." is for the lock assembly. The key does not slide in and seat easily. It requires some wiggling (the key, not you) in order for the lock assembly to rotate. However, considering this is a relatively low dollar replacement and I didn't have a key for the old one, it is more than acceptable.

I thought I was getting two different ones, or hopefully able to change around but you can't. So you have to be specific for each direction of rotation, that the handles turn, so they will work on your canopy.

Peak PKC0CT 2/8/12 Amp Intelligent Battery Charger

This charger seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I have three cars and the included clips to fit the battery posts are too small to fit any any of my cars. I purchased new, larger clips and added them to this charger. It seems to work well at first. I have an antique car the is only driven a few times a year and requires a "float charge" to keep the battery conditioned between monthly starts. This charger always changes to error code F05 after several hours of float charge. I thought the battery may be bad so I purchased a new battery (at over $100.00) and the charger does the same thing. I decided to check it on my other two cars with the same results. If you're looking for a charger to maintain a seldom used car, this isn't for you. I've since purchased a Exide charger and it's been flawless.

This light-weight charger with tiny clips may be well suited for occasional use for small batteries, but was a disappointing.

I had used this for a total of 5 times over the last year. It literally DIED, no sign of life no indicators, beeps...not even smoke. I did email the company with NO RESULTS. I had to go buy another charger not to mention the inconvenience of having to be stuck with a dead battery. I rate this a ZERO.

I bought a Menards. After using it on my trolling mototr twice, it reads code F05. I don't know what that means but it can't be good.My nephew bought on also, and his is junk too. Schumacher charger comes with a 5 year warranty. This one only has a 90 day. I wonder why!

I had bought this to charge my DroidX since I had no official car-charger, and I had bought it with the knowledge that it is, in fact, a $6 charger-and-cable set. I actually bought two with the purpose of both having one to test, and having one to crack open and reveal its secrets.

For those who are techy, it uses an MC34063A linear voltage regulator, which means it is subject to heat up. The chip itself is rated for a switched current max of 1.5A, however this is only a peak current rating and should never be sustained. Of course, the standard Motorola AC charging adapter puts out a decent 800mA of power, and bullet charger is rated to 750mA; this is overall an acceptable value.

For those who AREN'T techy, its like a "regulated resistor" (so to speak), where it drops the voltage that comes in (+12v) to the necessary output (+5v) by converting the extra energy to heat. This means that more than half of the power coming into the chip is just being burned up...literally...and the higher the input voltage, the hotter it will get.

As far as overheating, after 10 minutes of charging my nearly-charged DroidX, it not only became almost too hot to remove from the socket without gloves, but also heated up the cable to a concerning degree, as well as bringing my phone's battery temperature above normal charging temp. While not entirely destructive, it does mean the charger is prone to early failure, as well as potentially damaging the cable attached.

In summary, it is a very inefficient design prone to quick failure, has a mild potential to damage equipment, and it subject to extreme overheating, however this does form a good base to build off of, using its board and case as a starting point to replace with a true switched regulator with a heatsink.

If you're looking for something to work out-of-box, this is not the purchase for you, unless you're looking for a $6 micro-USB cable. If you're looking for something to tinker with to make absolutely perfect without having to pay ridiculous prices to achieve, than this is definitely worth the purchase.

I received my package in the mail, and it didn't look at all like the picture on Amazon. It appeared to be a cheap knockoff. It didn't have the Cellet brand name on it, nor the metal ring around the base. It was all plastic and the tip that plugs into the lighter was loos and needed to be screwed back on. This is a great size charger for someone wanting to get rid of bulky cables. I leave the plug part in the lighter socket and put the retractable part in my armrest console. No dangling cables to get stepped on when not in use.

If you don't have the specific type of phone or device listed, the USB socket will work with most anything that charges off a USB port. You just need to bring your own USB cable.
