GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge Controller

GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge ControllerWhen I ordered this hybrid controller I ordered it to furnish "automatic" charging for my homemade solar and wind power setup.

Well, when I opened the packaging, and took out the controller, it was much smaller than I had expected, and when I read the instructions for it, they made NO SENSE whatsoever!

I have had to do some guesswork to figure out what some of the symbols mean, and how you're supposed to connect your wiring to keep from destroying this controller.

This was bought as a 12 volt controller, but the so-called instructions said it was for 12 or 24 volt. However, where the battery output connectors are located, the instructions said one side was for 12 volt, and the other side was for 24 volt, and there are only two connectors! Come on! It is very obvious to anyone who knows about d.c. power that one connector HAS to be negative, and the other positive!

Whoever typed the instructions for this controller had absolutely NO idea what they were talking about!

About the only useful part of the instructions was where it actually told how many watts the controller was capable of handling from wind input and solar input. This information was NOT on this site for the device!

The maximum throughput this controller can handle for wind is 600 watts. 300 watts for solar power. Since I had ordered a 750 watt PM alternator for wind power, I had to order a rectifier to use for my wind generator. This controller cannot handle more than 600 watts for windthat is its' stated maximum.

If you intend to use this controller for "help" with your electricity production, it might work. However, if you need to use it "off the grid", I doubt this controller will meet your expectations. So just be careful is my suggestion.

They need to include a lot more information on this page about this controller than they have here.

I received this item without a manual. Repeated requests to Gudcraft to supply a digital manual met with no success. The product is therefore not documented which makes it useless. I own two other Gudcraft products their 400 watt turbine and the charge controller that comes with it. The documentation for those products is just plain horrible, so I shouldn't have been surprised that this item was going to be a disappointment. Not buying this brand again -finally learned my lesson.

Blaupunkt BT Drive Free 311 - Bluetooth/Speakerphone with Display

Blaupunkt BT Drive Free 311 - Bluetooth/Speakerphone with Display
  • Displays caller name and number
  • Phone book synchronization feature
  • Excellent sound quality with DSP sound processing
  • Talk time up to 10 hours Standby time up to 480 hours
  • Car charger and USB charging cable and manual included

Hoping that somewhat higher price would result in higher quality I was looking forward to receiving the BT 311. In addition, I knew that Blaupunkt is a German company so I was expecting a quality product.

Setting up the unit at home was easy enough. Once in the car, however, things were different. Our car is a Honda fit, a small, compact car, and by no standard a loud one. Still, the quality of sound was poor: at anything but full volume setting, it was very hard to hear; at full volume, the sound coming from the speaker had no bass, and had a crackling, irritating, sound, as if the volume was too high for the speaker.

I'm giving this product two stars: the software is good and the interface is user-friendly, but the speaker is quite poor. Car speakerphone producers need to realize that they don't need to be stuck in the under-$50 price-tag category customers would happily pay more for a high-quality, long-lasting, product.

Got this for my teen so that I can call her when she is driving, without worrying about her picking up the phone. It works fine for that purpose, although it kind of gets in the way on our steering wheel. Maybe it is just the shape of our wheel, but there really is no good place to put it where it isn't in the way, or difficult to reach.

I bought this for use in my 2011 Prius. Prii are not the quietest cars on the road yet I can hear calls clearly and callers report that they hear me just fine. I've even had to lower the volume during highway conversation. I had some initial difficulty positioning the phone as it interferred with my movements as I turned the steering wheel. Also it felt a bit weird speaking into a moving target while making hard turns. The solution for me was to mount it on to the handle above the passenger door. Since calls are answered with the push of a button that's easily located by touch, I don't have to take my eyes off the road at any point. I plan to buy another for my Honda Odyssey.

Blaupunkt BT Drive Free 211 Bluetooth/Speakerphone with Headset and Hands-Free Modes

I wanted to like this so badly! But, it really let me down. Who wouldn't like the two-in-one feature of this unit? And, with all the new laws requiring hands-free phone usage (not yet in my state), I decided this lightning deal was the time to pick one up. Unfortunately, there is a buzzing sound whenever the speaker is on. I tried making calls, taking calls, call waiting, different locations, and every other type of test I could think of. Every time I made/received a call I could hear when the speaker turned on and the buzzing never went away. When there is no call, the speaker is silent. As I said, I wanted to like this, but I decided I could not live with that buzzing every time I was on the phone, so I am going to return it. The headpiece did not have the same buzzing issues, but it is a package deal. In case you were wondering, those I spoke with said the sound was good. And, I could hear them well aside from the buzzing. I was waiting for more reviews on the product to see if others had the same issues, but I can't wait any longer. Understood I may have gotten a lemon and could exchange it, but................

I also bought the "Jabra DRIVE Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone Retail Packaging Black" at around the same time. Callers said this one sounded a bit more "Tinny" than the Blaupunkt, but on my end there was no buzzing. I am going to test this one for another week or two and see if it works for me. But, there are plenty of reviews on this product for you to make your own decision. Good luck!

  • ¿ Includes USB Type A to mini-B cable so you can charge while using Griffin iTripor other dock connector devices that have built-in pass-throughs.
  • ¿ 2 Amp automotive blade-type fuse protects against spikes and surges and is easily replaceable.
  • ¿ Works with iPhone, iPod models that feature full-size dock connector, and iPod shuffle (1st generation).

I bought two of these. Only one of them worked and Griffin Support Technician Mike's solution was for me to return the charger to my place of purchase, brushing off my request for a replacement fuse (which is user-serviceable). When I told him that it would be cheaper to buy a generic charger than to pay return shipping he happily closed the support ticket as "solved."

Super Universal Battery Charger for AA / AAA NImh Nicd Batteries + 4 Batteries by ATC

Super Universal Battery Charger for AA / AAA NImh Nicd Batteries + 4 Batteries by ATC
  • Works with all nicd and nimh "AA" and "AAA" rechargeable batteries; charges AA and AAA rechargeable batteries simultaneously
  • Charges batteries at a safe, steady rate which improves the long-term health of the NiMH battery
  • Overheat detection to protect over-charging
  • Battery full rate: 80% frequency
  • Comes with 4 pack Hitech AA Ni-Mh 2600mAh rechargeable batteries

This small charger can be tucked into the flap of your camera or recorder case. It occupies less space than a pack of cigarettes. There are only two negatives, which are not really negative once you understand how the device works. Two batteries must be in the left or right pair of holders to charge. Also, there is a switch inside which MUST be in the 110v position to charge right. Mine came in the 220v, and I can see how someone might just use it and think it's broke. If you're in the U.S., and it's set to 220, it will not charge the batteries correctly making you think it's not working right. OK, now that we have that said, I had no problem with the device. I purchased it for my minidisc recorders, and it charged up all four AA batteries in about 25 minutes to full level. The bonus to this charger is there is no wall-wart or long cords to tangle in your case. Just slip batteries in, and plug the charger into the wall. That it!

I guess I was expecting a little more of a device charger for the price. First off, the actual item doesn't look like the picture. For a Gigabeat, that's a huge problem because the charging port is on the side. Gomadic's "Tip Exchange" makes the problem even worse because now you have about 3 inches of solid plug and adapter sticking 90 deg out of the side of the unit. This makes it awkward to store in a console or glove box. It will charge the unit with a completely dead battery which the USB charger won't do, and it has an overcharge protection that is nice. Provide a 90 deg bend adapter and an actual picture of the product and I would give it a 5 star rating.

Westinghouse WH7500E Portable Generator, 7500 Running Watts/9000 Starting Watts

Westinghouse WH7500E Portable Generator, 7500 Running Watts/9000 Starting WattsReceived it 12/26/12, assembled wheels & lift bars, added oil to engine and connected negative battery terminal. Turned off the main breaker on the generator, added gas and hit the electric start and she fired right off. Let it run for about 5 minutes, shut engine down and plugged it into the exterior 30amp box. Re-started the generator, turned off the house main breaker, moved the interlock over, turned on the generator breaker in the main box and then the main breaker on the generator. Turned on the individual breakers in the main panel one by one and the whole house was up and running! Lights, TV, heat, computer/laser printer, 2 refrigerator/freezers even turned on my 220V 15amp compressor in the garage, ran everything with out a hiccup.

Things I like:

1. Longer run time than most; 12 hours on a 6.6 gallon tank (at 50% load)

2. 3 year warranty.

3. Hour meter to monitor run time and oil changes.

4. Engine is designed to run on up to 10% ethanol gas!!!

5. Low oil auto shut off.

6. Electrical overload protection.

It seems well built and has a very large muffler which makes it much quieter then most generators its size. When the next power outage occurs I will run it for 20 hours, drain the oil and replace it with 0/40 Amsoil small engine 4 Stroke synthetic oil. Hopefully I will receive many years of service from this generator.

I also purchased the Sunforce 50013 1-Watt Motorcycle and Powersports Solar Battery Charger to maintain the battery's charge when not in use. Works great, see my review.

I received the generator this past weekend. My experience with the shipping company was not the best (arrived 4.5 hours after the expected time) but all else was fine. I agree with the other reviews as to why this generator is different than others in this class. This one has:

Longer run time than most. 11+ hours on a 6.6 gallon tank (at 50% load)

A 3 year warranty Most are 1 or 2

Built, supported and serviced in USA

My first impressions taking out of the box was this was a well built unit. The instructions are pretty simple and all you have to do is attach the wheels, attached the handles, attach the negative battery cable (it is zipped tied to a cable above the battery) and add oil

The oil capacity of the unit is 1.5 quarts so you just pour the entire included bottle of oil into the motor before starting and you are all set. Starting it up was a simple push of the button and once the choke is off the engine runs super smooth and is relatively quiet. It is quieter than my 4-cycle snowblower. I did test all the outlets and plugged in about 2000 watts worth of stuff and all seemed okay. I'm very happy with it!

Buy Westinghouse WH7500E Portable Generator, 7500 Running Watts/9000 Starting Watts Now

After over a year of research and nit-picking over all the important stuff: run time, clean continuous voltage delivery, wattage, ruggedness, and manufacture support, Westinghouse always made it onto the short list. The WH7500E meets all of these requirements in spades. And although my first understanding was that it was made in the USA, which it is not, it is supported by a very robust and helpful service team with centers located across the country. Not a single regret.

UPDATE: And having spent the time running the engine through an adequate break-in period (about 15 hours), luckily just prior to a series of heavy wet snow storms in MA which pulled down trees and power lines, i was simply giddy with excitement when we lost utility power and it was time to fire up the generator and see how well it worked. i was able to provide power to two refrigerators, the furnace, TV, DVD player, lights in the kitchen, bathroom living room and each bedroom, microwave and it never surpassed 50% load. this thing is awesome.

Read Best Reviews of Westinghouse WH7500E Portable Generator, 7500 Running Watts/9000 Starting Watts Here

March 4th 2013 Update:Had a new distribution panel with an integrated mechanical interlock for a generator circuit installed in the house along with a 30 amp outdoor receptacle. We hooked the generator up to the house and turned on all the breakers in the panel. I then started to add loads and the generator did not miss a beat! I was told that I wouldn't be able to run my electric stove off a generator....wrong! I had 2 burners on, most of the lights, a refrigerator and then a large microwave oven all at once without a problem. The watt meters in my panel showed only about 4000W being drawn. In response to this test I have upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars. My electrician was so impressed he has been recommending this set-up to others.

Like many others I spent a lot of time researching generators before choosing the Westinghouse WH7500. My main consideration was to buy a unit that would be reliable and long lasting and easy to get service for. After all it was bought for backup power and probably won't be used except during times of emergency, so reliability was most important. Secondly I wanted a generator that was fuel efficient. After Super Storm Sandy, gas was hard to come by on Long Island as it was in other places. Thirdly I wanted it to have safety features like overload protection and low oil shut off.

Well I believe I got what I wanted with the WH7500. I unpacked the box and quickly put the wheels and handles on. Connected the battery, filled it with the oil provided, put about ¾ of a gallon of gas in and pressed the start button. Without hesitation the engine cranked and immediately started. After about 5 to 10 seconds I switched the choke off and the engine smoothed right out. I left it running and plugged my wife's 1900W blow drier in, and then I added a 12 amp vacuum cleaner and an electric drill. No problem, plenty of power. I left the generator running for about an hour before closing off the fuel supply to empty the carburetor. In the coming weeks I intend to wire a receptacle to the side of the house so that the generator can be tied directly into my distribution panel with the use of a mechanical interlock for safety. Once that is accomplished and the generator has been tested on the home in a real life like situation I will burn off the rest of the gas in the tank, then change the oil, "fog" the engine and put the unit in storage till it is needed. Until that test I am only rating it 4 stars (up graded to 5 stars, see above). The generator looks well-made and solid. I never had a small engine start so well on the first try.

BTW one of the factors I was looking for was a unit built in the U.S.A. and I thought the WH7500 met the bill. To my surprise the label on the box reads "Designed and engineered in the USA. Generator and accessories made in China". I'm not sure if that means the engine is built in the US and the generator head with the rest in China or not. I believe and hope that a major US manufacturer with the reputation of Westinghouse keeps tight control over their overseas factories. Only time will tell. For now I am very happy with my purchase.

Want Westinghouse WH7500E Portable Generator, 7500 Running Watts/9000 Starting Watts Discount?

I got this generator to replace a smaller 3200W generator that had been used with extension cords for power outages. I was having a transfer switch/panel installed and wanted a larger unit to go along with it. After researching several brands, including Generac and Briggs and Stratton, I went with this Westinghouse and I am very happy I did.

First, the shipping from Amazon with free Amazon Prime shipping. It was supposed to arrive in 2 days on a Wed, but when I spoke with the shipping company, it was running a day late. If I did not have power at the time and was awaiting the generator, the extra day might have felt like eternity, but we were fine waiting for an extra day, especially with the free shipping for a 200 lb item. Since we didn't pay for shipping, we didn't qualify for any shipping refund through Prime. The next day (Thu) the shipping company (CEVA) arrived 30 minutes early from the scheduled window and the item was rolled into my garage. No need to pay extra for "liftgate" service, etc that some other online retailers selling generators will charge.

Unpacking and installation was easy. It includes the wheel kit, handles, and a bottle of oil and a funnel. There are also some rudimentary wrenches and a spark plug wrench (I just used my own). It may help to have 2 people to unpack the generator and turn it on its side to attach the wheels, but I was able to do it myself in about 30 minutes, including adding the oil and gas.

The generator is solidly built and appears to be very well made. I had called Westinghouse regarding a question prior to purchase (more on that below), as there are mixed comments about where these are built. They said in fact it was assembled in China like most generators of this class out there now. However, the quality appears first class and their 3 year warranty backs that up. Most portable generators only have 1-2 years warranty.

About their customer service, I had called Westinghouse/Westpro Power regarding a question I had about the neutral bonding. A real person picked up, took the initial question and transferred me directly to Dennis, their service manager! (their names/pictures are also listed on the Westpro Power website very cool to know you're dealing with real people on the other end, not some customer service maze/nightmare!) He was very good at answering the questions: yes, the neutral is bonded to the frame, but yes, you can unbond it to make it "floating neutral" without voiding the warranty. This is technically the proper way to do things if you are hooking it up to your house, but I won't get into that here. He did want this done by an electrician, and was willing to forward the schematics to my electrician. It was so reassuring to know that this company stands behind its generators and that you speak to the people that actually run the company and are knowledgeable about their products. He asked where I live and when I told him Boston area, he said they had a major distribution center in the Boston area and several service/warranty affiliates as well. This information and service is priceless in my book, especially after all the nightmare stories about other brands' sketchy customer service.

Back to the generator, it fired up the first attempt with the electric starter (no dead battery here!) and was easy to connect to my inlet box and transfer switch. Powered all the circuits I needed without any problem during my initial trial.

PROS:

-Well built construction

-OHV engine, Cast iron cylinders

-Includes Battery/Wheel Kit

-According to the manual, the generator charges the battery while its running (you still may need a maintenance charger depending on your use)

-Hour meter

-REAL Customer service Real knowledgeable people that answer their phones!

-3 year warranty, best in the business

-Service centers in the Boston area

CONS:

-Consumer generators are a new thing for Westinghouse, so they don't have a super long track record yet, but their service and warranty stand behind them

-It only has a single 30amp outlet, depending on your setup if you're using it in the field, you may want more flexibility with another 30amp outlet

-Wheels are attached with a large pin and hairpin cotter, not a threaded bolt and nut (although I wheeled it by myself surprisingly easily over uneven/muddy ground from my driveway out to the backyard)

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the purchase of this Westinghouse generator!

I bought this for a 2005 Chevy Colorado. I used a Metra 95-2009 Double DIN Installation Multi-Kit for Select 1995-2008 GM/Honda/Isuzu/Suzuki Vehicles installation kit and an Axxess GMRC-01 Class II GM Chime Retention Interface to keep my chimes my truck doesn't have On-Star or a separate factory amp. I also got the Scosche Mda-1B 1988 Up Gm Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter because GM uses a small antenna plug. All parts were exactly what I needed. The radio fit perfectly WITHOUT cutting the truck's metal rear support bracket inside the dash. The truck has Boston Acoustic speakers in the front doors and factory speakers in the rear. As a result I keep the fader set to the front speakers only. This truck has no dimmer wire or illumination wire so the dimming feature will not work. I did not need navigation because I use my Droid and I don't need DVD or movies in the truck. I had that feature in my last head unit for three years and never did watch a movie in the truck.

I like that it's compatible with my existing Sirius SCC1 receiver I didn't want to have to buy a proprietary Sirius receiver. That kind of thing just rankles me and it's a BIG reason I chose this unit. I just plugged it in and it simply worked. The unit will hold 18 Sirius presets and I can choose to display Artist and Track at the same time.

Also, the ability to read USB MP3 files is great I like to throw audio books on a USB stick for long drives. The Clarion will remember the track position even after the truck is turned off and the USB stick removed so when I put the USB stick in again the unit will shift to the USB source and start playing where it left off. This is a great feature for audio books. Fastforward/rewind is accomplished by holding the Next Track/Previous Track buttons.

Good bluetooth connection with my Droid X The unit connects automatically with both BT phone and BT audio at the same time. (My wife's much-more-expensive Pioneer AVIC will not connect both phone and audio to her Incredible at the same time; she has to choose one or the other and go through the cumbersome process to do it.) I can play music on my phone and sound comes out of the Clarion instead of the phone and I can pause, skip tracks, control volume, etc with the Clarion. The BT Telephone part also works great and the sound is fine. The microphone is built into the unit. The Clarion easily accepted my Droid X phone book although it wouldn't transfer the contacts in my favorites but I think that is a problem with the phone and not the Clarion I'm still working on it. It is not possible to add single numbers to the phone book. The Clarion phone book stores all the names in Last Name | First Name order which I don't like. Calls are not that easy to start from the Clarion unless it is redialing a recent call. Trying to direct dial from the radio while driving would be crazy because its way too complicated. However, incoming calls work perfectly (and mute the radio during the call) and I can make outgoing calls from the phone while it sits in the dock and then it's hands free speaker-phone over the Clarion. Overall I'm extremely happy with the bluetooth and this is another BIG reason I am happy with this unit.

Aux-In jack on the front haven't used this yet but its good to have.

Double Din Big two-line text thats easy to read while driving. The buttons are not all mashed together and the volume knob is big. It's easy to control the unit quickly and safely. I appreciate this after driving another vehicle with a single-din unit that had dozens of tiny buttons and practically unreadable text and button labels. However, I can't see the clock at the same time as anything else which is a negative in other words I can see Artist and Track, or Station or whatever but if I want to see the clock it will be all I see. They should have left a spot where the clock can always be visible.

The FM sounds pretty good better than the Sirius music stations I think. I can't compare the FM sensitivity to the factory radio because I took out the factory radio long ago...

Music sounds good enough with my BA speakers. Not outstanding, but good enough for me. In my younger days when I was more into music I would have demanded more and probably used an external amp and sub-woofer, etc (and also bought a more expensive brand just because of the name!) but nowadays I mostly listen to talk radio on Sirius. However, like I said, music sounds very acceptable if I don't crank it up way too loud. I actually removed my external Alpine amp at the same time I installed the Clarion. I don't feel like I need it.

The ability to change colors is very cool. Right now I have it on a custom yellow which looks real good.

The remote, which I don't use, has a mute button but the head unit does not. However it's easy to turn down quickly due to the huge volume knob.

I did test the CD part which was fine, but I probably won't be using that either.

There are three ipods in my house so I could test that feature but I just don't care enough to do it. I can use my Droid over bluetooth if I want to play portable music.

Bottom line is that I am very happy with the Clarion considering it's price and would certainly buy again if I needed another head unit.

I picked this up this weekend and replaced an older non-amplified Alpine.

This unit is very light. It fit my WRX well after tucking the cabling behind the center vent ducts; and only needing a small custom made trim ring to fill the gaps. The unit went in easily and cleanly. The sound is VERY clean (no EQ setting used). I'm running all channels though older Blue Thunder amplifiers and the imaging is good, bass is clean punchy and the unit looks clean in the dash. The illumination lets you match the car's color very well.

The USB port is the main reason I got this unit. I have a microSD keychain USB adapter that I can toss 8GB of music on, and it plays with no problem. It seeks and changes track incredibly fast. Faster than an iPod.

The bluetooth paired easily with the MyTouch 1.2. I've tested calls and it worked great. Had to adjust the mic gain up some, but thats all.

BONUS: The deck controlled winamp on my android phone. This was a complete surprise to me and I actually giggled when I discovered it.

Radio reception seems fine, I'm not a huge fan of local radio but what it picks up comes in clear. I haven't spun through the entire 'dial' but my main stations are loud & clear. You haven't heard NPR/PRI until the background sub-bass from on-location interviews shakes your seat. ;)

My only gripe is the display. While installing it I thought I had (inexplicably) gotten the dimmer wire screwed up as I could not see the display *at all* while looking directly at it (leaning over the center console installing it). Looking at it off-axis from either front seat helped but it was still pretty dim. I had to crank up the contrast to full to comfortably read the display and I'll likely have to get my windows tinted to have it be bright enough to be readable at a glance on the road. Granted, this is not helped by the high installation point and slight upward angle of the WRX radio location. I may try a non-glare phone screen protector to see if this helps.

I'm still fidgeting with settings but so far this is a keeper. I was looking at its predecessor deciding on this level of head unit or going with a full-blown Nav system that was literally 10x the price. I'm glad I went this route. It was inexpensive, works great and was super-simple to install. As far as nav, Google maps using the blutetooth audio can tell me where to go.

Bottom line: feature rich great sound looks good HOWEVER, display is NOT daylight friendly. BUT if you have a car with window tint, this is your double DIN head unit.

After a frustrating visit to CarToys (they insisted that I needed to spend $600 to $700 for a new stereo and speakers), I took my stock radio out of my 2004 Ford Explorer to find a jumble of 49 wires and thought, oh no, what have I gotten myself into!

After much research starting here on Amazon (Catamount's advice was invaluable), to Metra (Justin at Metra went above and beyond), and ending on Ford Explorer forum sites (where I located a PDF on removing the door panels to replace the stock speakers), I found my way through the wire jumbles and soldered Metra's wiring harness to the CX501's and then connected it all into the stock Ford harnesses. After which, I was happily astonished at the Bluetooth phone connectivity and great sound (coupled with my iPod) of the CX501. All for about $280 you can install an excellent new stereo along with new speakers. The CX501 paired without any issues to my Droid and controls my iPod just as easily as on the device itself. The sound, coupled with new speakers, blows away the factory radio. It begs the question, why didn't I do it sooner?

If anyone, like me, is new to head unit/speakers replacement, and needs help removing the Ford door panels, let me know and I'll get you the link to the PDF (I've found that Amazon strips URLs out of reviews).

The other pieces include:

Metra Harness (for Ford's with stock Amp and Sub-woofer): Metra 70-5521 Radio Wiring Harness for Ford 03-Up Amp

Nice sounding easy to install Kenwood Speakers: Kenwood KFC-P680C 6-Inch x 8-Inch Easy Fit Ford/Mazda Speaker System

Notes: I had to install a RadioShack 5V voltage regulator between the Amp turn-on in the new radio to the stock Amp turn-on since the new radio is 12V while the stock Ford Amp is 5V. Metra told me if I didn't the sub-woofer would probably "pop" when you turned the radio on. Also, the pin-outs for the Ford harness can be found on the Metra package and also on sites such as InstallDoctor and Cruthfield.

I'm very satisfied; it was well worth the time. Good luck!

Bought this for my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT as a replacement for the factory headunit. My car originally had the premium Monsoon stereo, but I was told while it had an external amplifier, it was held back by the not so great Delco head unit. I popped this radio in via a Scosche GM wiring harness from Walmart for $30 and it worked nearly perfectly. Sound is crisp and clear and a vast improvement over the old headunit.

I chose a double din radio because I want to preserve the "stock" look to act as a deterrent against stereo thieves (my 95 Suburban recently had its single din radio stolen). With this radio it's kind of a "have to look twice" to realize it's not the factory radio. And most radio thieves don't give a rip about factory radios. The only problem is that Clarion is on the front of the radio in large enough print. Perhaps I'll have to get a sticker that says Dual or Jensen.lol

Overall sound quality over all the inputs I've used has been very good. The bass is very good, almost too good in fact as my rear deck speakers are probably being pushed to their limits now. Radio reception is pretty good, not quite as good as factory, but good. And that may be due to the fact that I have to use an antenna wire adapter.

I love the customizable face colors. I have a Pontiac and they have red interior, at night the radio totally looks like it's the factory unit.

I picked this unit over it's older sibling the Clarion CX609 because of the way the Bluetooth is implemented. In the CX609 you have to run a microphone and a wire up your A-pillar or wherever you want it (I don't have the patience to do that) with the CX501 it's integrated into the unit itself and with adjustable gain/sensitivity it works very well. It's so convenient.

A weakness is the interface, it's not the most complicated radio I've used but the ease of use from a factory radio is definitely missed. Sometimes when in iPod mode if I'm in a playlist and want to select another song in the playlist, I have to go back out to the top iPod menu then >music>playlists>playlist I want>song I want. Other time it allows me to browse within the playlist without going through the menus again. And I can't figure out why it does that sometimes.

Also installation was kind of a pain. Both do to engineering choices by Clarion and by GM/Pontiac. The space behind the radio is very tight. I originally learned about this unit at crutchfield.com and they said I might have to modify the space to fit the radio. I didn't have to do that, but it's very close fit, and probably would benefit from cutting the rear support bracket. That said, the clearance issue wasn't due to the radio itself, but the RCA jacks coming out of the rear of the unit. Most radios I've seen have female RCA jack ports in the back for adding on an amplifier. This radio has female RCA jack wires in the back meaning that even if you don't use an amplifier, you still have the RCA jacks coming out of the back of the radio. And they go right up against the rear mounting bracket in my car. Had these just been empty ports, my installation would have been relatively easy. But it does work and it does fit in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. It's not the prettiest install, but it is doable.

Also, the illumination/dimming feature doesn't seem to be working on my unit. I have the setting on, but when my headlights come on everything dims to the night setting except the radio. Now this could be a defect in my unit or a defect in my data harness (the one from Walmart). It's not a big issue though, at least not for me. I'm going to give Clarion the benefit of the doubt and say it's a problem with the data harness by Scosche, since I bought it from Walmart.

Overall, I'm loving this radio and am glad I decided to go with it. I recommend it, but if you have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, I'd keep a radio shop on speed dial, I came really close to giving up and having my local shop install it.lol

Oh, and the price here on Amazon is a really really good price. It's $50 less than Crutchfield and the few radio shops that carry it.

I own a Verizon iPhone 4 with unlimited internet 3G plan. I wanted to replace my factory original double-DIN CD player radio on a 2006 Ford Escape XLT. The criteria used to select this unit was that it must SIMUTANEOUSLY connect via Bluetooth to my phone to stream Pandora music (much better than subscribing to Sirius radio), listen to audio commands from my GPS Navigator app (Navigon and Waze), and take incoming phone calls. The built in microphone for calls was a big plus. I like the previous reviewer's statement that a double DIN unit looks similar to factory original to fend off car thieves. Although the unit is designed with a USB port to accept a iPhone sync cord and has features to direct iTunes and at the same time charge the unit, this standard USB charger port delivers only 0.5 amps. iPhone requires a 1 AMP charger to charge while streaming. iPhones are notorious for draining the battery if all features are turned on. This would be important when going on long trips.

I had the unit professionally installed. The installer said it was easy with a bracket unit and necessary adapter plugs which were purchased separately. Below is a preliminary review of my experience so far:

1) Bluetooth connectivity is excellent. The initial pairing of the device was abit difficult because the instructional manual was not very clear. With the help of the installer I was able to initially pair the stereo to my iPhone in 2 minutes. After the initial pairing, you just need to go into the iPhone settings and connect to the device each time. Your phone ID will appear on the unit display upon connection.

2) Stereo streaming from Pandora via Bluetooth. Excellent sound! The A2DP Bluetooth audio processing allows full range of sound to come out beautifully from the factory speakers. The 50W amp (per channel) built in amplifier gave my factory original speakers clear crisp sound which were far superior from what the OEM stereo could deliver. I was considering to buy the CX501 singer DIN unit, but read that it only delivers 17 watts RMS per channel versus a full 50W per channel with this double-DIN unit. The display is also easier to read. It also works very well with audio while watching Netflix streaming video and Podcasts on the road. There is 4 preset equalizer settings and a custom setting. I find that the "Excite" setting is best suited for my type of music (old school that is heavy on the bass).

3) GPS navigation audio directions via Bluetooth. Whenever a voice command to turn emits from the GPS app in the iPhone, it automatically lowers the volume to the steaming music. It then returns to the music back to normal volume. This feature is indicative of the phone, but it nice to know that the Bluetooth connectivity remains solid between the iPhone and the stereo. One disadvantage is that I like to crank up the music while on the road, this causes the GPS voice to also come out loud. This is a problem with the software app on the iPhone and not the stereo unit.

4) Phone Calls: pressing the play button allows me to answer calls. When in the phone mode, you can control the volume easily on the stereo. The person on the other line can hear my voice very well. The microphone is located on the left top corner of the unit so you may need to lower the fan speed of the air conditioner if a vent is located next to the unit and it is noisy. After the call has ended, the music and GPS commands return back to normal without loosing Bluetooth connectivity.

5) I like the option of also plugging via USB port a flash drive with MP3 files, or plugging in via 3.5mm jack any other audio device.

6) Display. I like the large 2 line display. However, I was disappointed to see that when playing the radio, I lost the ability to see the name of the radio station I was listening to as well as the song. This feature was included in the factory original display. Also the clock was always displayed on the factory unit (my car does not come with a separate clock on the dash board). This stereo has a clock but it displays on a separate screen. You press the "DISP" button on the unit to cycle through the display features.

Oriongadgets Car Charger for Motorola Droid X (Includes OrionGadgets Cleaning Cloth)

Oriongadgets Car Charger for Motorola Droid XThe price is to good to be true. The first one I received refused to charge. Seller was very kind in mailing out another charger. The second one seemed like a different model and barely fit in my car's outlet, which is strange, it should be a uniform size. After squeezing it in it did charge my phone, but created a lot of static over my radio. I asked for a refund and the seller was really courteous, but that doesn't change that it's a bad product. Something is off with their quality control.

This worked well out of the box. In time, though rubber around the wire came loose from the power supply (part that plugs into the socket). I addressed this with some electrical tape which only needs to be adjusted occasionally.

Also the connector to the phone itself becomes very loose.

Bought one for a friend walking across the country and back (Trek For Hope), for families of fallen Spec Ops warriors. He has it attached to the top of his back pack all day and he can only get it to charge to %15-%40. It does charge to the full %100 when plugged in via a USB cable to the wall or a PC. This product works fine as a portable charging device but the solar charging aspect is ineffective.

Went camping with it and it fell about 2' to the dirt and the piece that holds the 3 together broke. I expect a bit better materials. I used twist ties to fix it, and it still works. Have it hanging in my window for the occasional hurricane Sandy experience. Nice to have a bit of juice. But it takes several days to get a decent charge. Love solar technology, but this isn't the one

I am not sure, but I believe this unit has fried the charging receptacle in my phone and mp3 player ($16 to replace the internal battery). After attempting to charge both, the batteries would not take a charge anymore from anything. Very disappointing when 20 miles out on the trail with no tunes or phone. It doesn't seem to have a problem charging my camera though. Take your own chances ...

Well first off! It's only the charger. I figured it would at least come with a USB out or something. But there is no way to charge anything with it straight out of the box. You have to buy their little charger attachments. For the price that is just unacceptable. Especially considering Goal Zero has a much nicer package for $20 more. Skip Solio, go with Goal Zero.

In the product Description they recommend that you do not use " cheap Chinese inverters as they are not reliable" yet the charge controller the send with this wind generator says in LARGE letters on the front "MADE IN CHINA" Makes me wonder how good the charge controller really is.

My battery arrived DOA and was found to have a bad cell upon being tested. The seller quickly refunded my $ after I was able to find an auto parts place which was willing to test the battery and provide me with a printout of the results. This would have been a great deal for $35, but it cost me a substantial amount of $ in gas, driving all over town going to different auto parts stores. I couldn't wait any longer to get my bike running, so I had to buy an overpriced replacement at Bat + for $93. :(

I got my battery last week I got it on time I put in in my bike and I noticed that it was about a 1/4 inch taller than the gel battery that was in it so I left the battery cover off and it was still a lot of trouble getting the seat back on and to top it off the battery was weak it don't hardly crank the bike so I'm not so happy you get what you pay for.
