Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPod (Black)

Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPodIf you're looking for info on how well this works with headsets, I'm sorry to say that I don't own a BT headset (yet). This review focuses on the transmitter in conjunction with a Sony BT receiver that I use to connect my iPod to my home receiver, since that was the primary reason that I got one of these. But hopefully you'll still find something useful.

First off, Amazon's two sentence product description is a bit too brief, so here are some specs from the packaging:

Communication System:

Bluetooth Specification version 2.0 + EDR

Output:

Bluetooth Specification Power Class 2

Maximum communication range:

Line of Sight approx 10m (30 ft)

Freqency band:

2.4 GHz band (2.4000 GHz 2.4835 GHz)

Modulation method:

FHSS

Compatible Bluetooth Profile:

A2DP, AVRCP

Supported Codec:

SBC

Supported Passcode:

0000, 1234, 8888

Terminal:

iPod connector

Compatible iPod models (official):

iPod nano 1st generation

iPod nano 2nd generation (aluminum)

iPod mini 1st generation

iPod 4th generation

iPod 4th generation (color display)

iPod 5th generation (video)

Although the compatibility list does not mention it, this add-on definitely works with the iPod classic, because that's what I'm using. The terminal is the current standard 30-pin connector, so if your iPod is more recent than the above list, chances are that it will probably work... but I can only speak for the classic.

CONTENTS:

The package comes with:

iPod Bluetooth transmitter

manual

One funny note regarding the packaging: I couldn't believe how HUGE the packaging was for such a small item!! The main photo on the package depicts an iPod with the transmitter cleverly placed in view right below the iPod photo, where it would plug in. It certainly catches the eye.

USAGE:

It couldn't be simpler You just turn on your iPod and connect the transmitter to the port, and in order to activate it, you set your receiving device into pairing mode and then hold down the button on the transmitter for about 7 seconds until the two devices are paired. That's it.

SOUND:

Overall, I find the sound quality on the receiving side to be excellent. I base my opinion on headphone comparisons between:

a) plugging directly into the iPod and

b) plugging into my Bluetooth receiver unit

As far as I can tell, the sound is pretty much identical, although a bit lower in volume, but that may due to my Bluetooth receiver.

For reference, I'm using the transmitter in conjunction with the Sony HWS-BTA2W Bluetooth wireless audio transmitter/receiver as my Bluetooth receiver. Both these two devices support Bluetooth 2.0 and A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). For audio comparisons, I used a pair of Sony MDR-V700DJ Monitor Series Headphones.

One important thing to note is that you cannot control the volume of the transmitted sound. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but it appears to be by design. All your iPod controls behave as they normally do and you can even move the volume slider up or down, however it has no effect on the transmitted sound. Some functions, however, do still affect the sound, such as "Sound Check", "Volume Limit", and all the "EQ" settings. Since these features still work, I'm assuming that the lack of volume control is by design. The volume output is the max allowed by the Volume Limit setting.

My only guess is that the volume control is to be used in conjunction with AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), but I don't have such a device to confirm. I don't know if this happens on other iPod bluetooth adaptors, but I could see the inability to control the volume via the iPod becoming an issue if you want to use it with a BT headset (unless the headset has volume controls)

RANGE:

The packaging states "Line of Sight approx 10m (30 ft)". I had thought that Bluetooth did not require line of sight, but Sony clearly states so and for the most part, it holds true for this unit. I have tested up to around 25 feet with clear line of sight and the sound remaind crisp and clear. Clothing also did not present any problems. I buried the iPod and transmitter under a pile of ski clothing with no effect.

But once you block the path with walls or other sources of interference, the signal will start to become choppy or completely cut off. Be warned that your body can also block the signal. Cupping my hands completely around the transmitter would pretty much turn the signal to crap beyond only a few feet from the BT receiver. In most cases, as long as I'm witin a one or two feet, the signal still comes through, but the more I block the signal and the further I go, the more the signal would degrade, as is to be expected.

As far as home use goes, as long as I'm in the same room and not actively trying to block the signal, I haven't had any problems.

DESIGN:

The design is about as simple as you can get. It has a single big button in the center, which you can use for various functions (turning on/off, pairing) and a bright blue light which signals the unit's activities. It is completely powered by the iPod, so no extra power supply or battery is required.

I have seen similar Bluetooth attachments for the iPod which are little blocks the same width as the iPod. Personally, I prefer the small design of the Sony. One major factor that I like about it is that I can plug it into my iPod without removing it from its protective case. I use a leather casing by INCASE which only leaves me an opening for the 30-pin connector at the bottom.

My main pet peeve that I have about most block adaptors is that while they may blend better with the iPod in overall shape, there aren't any cases (that I know of) available that fit an iPod WITH attachments, so if you use a case and want to connect something, chances are you'll have to remove the iPod from its case before plugging in your accessory. The Sony might make for an odd shape, but for my purposes at least, it works better and I think that it still looks pretty slick.

One thing that Sony could have added, however, is a locking clip for the transmitter. The transmitter sits pretty snugly and doesn't feel like it'll fall out by accident, but it would have been nice to have that extra sense of security.

CONCLUSION:

The unit is a bit pricey, but overall I'm quite satisfied with its functionality. The sound quality is good and for my purposes, I haven't had any problems with signal strength.

As an aside, my primary goal was to connect my iPod to my home speaker system. I was originally looking at the iPod Universal Dock, but found it to be completely worthless, since the remote control could only play/pause/skip prev/next and control the volume. For actually selecting music, I still had to go up to the dock in order to browse for my music. And who wants to get up to change music anyway? :)

Using this Bluetooth setup, I can now use my iPod as a fully functional "remote" (except for volume) and have my music come out of my main speaker system. I do wish I could have the option of charging my iPod while it's broadcasting (since the charging port is occupied by the transmitter), but the fact that I can keep my iPod in its protective case and the nice compact size and look of the transmitter makes for a decent tradeoff. Bottom line: If you have a nice home speaker setup, I totally recommend going this route!

**UPDATE 12/13/2007**

Just a few more quick notes and clarifications (as if this review wasn't long enough, eh?) since I've been using it for about a month now... and I still LOVE this device!

Usage:

I should clarify my above comment that it only requires pairing with your receiving device ONCE (like most BT devices). After the initial pairing you can unplug it and only plug it back into the iPod when you want to use it. If you're near your previously paired receiving device, all you have to do is plug the transmitter into your iPod and hit play, and the receiver should immediately pick up your audio signal. To preserve battery life, the iPod transmitter only transmits if you're actually playing music, which is pretty good.

Lack of volume control:

After having read other reviews for similar attachments, the fixed volume output appears to be normal. For my purposes, it would have been nice if I could have controlled volume directly from the iPod, but I'll live. At least I know that it wasn't necessarily a design-flaw in this particular device.

If you've tried another Bluetooth transmitter for your iPod, you may be stunned at just how small this one is (see my product picture relative to coins).

As others have said, it pairs very easily and since it draws power from the iPod, it doesn't require charging.

Some additional notes:

The size of the button is very convenient for any size fingers (many units feature extremely small buttons).

The unit fits securely in the iPod and does not break connection if you shake the iPod, and I mean SHAKE it. Great even for robust exercise.

The power it draws from the iPod is minimal, having only a negligible effect on the battery charge. In this configuration, it outlasts the charge of my Motorokr S9 Headphones

The sound quality is excellent. My previous Bluetooth transmitter was never so clear.

The range is the best I've come across for a Bluetooth device. As an experiment, I connected the device to my iPod in my bedroom and then went downstairs to do some laundry. The sound was clear and uninterrupted until I got to the laundry room door, about 30-35 feet from my iPod.

You really can't go wrong with this unit. It's more expensive than some of the others, but you'll love the convenience and level of performance.

This Bluetooth adapter does work with the iPhone in spite of the message you get when you plug it in. The message states that it doesn't and asks you if you want to switch to airplane mode. Just answer no and continue. The key to getting it to work is to start whichever application you are using to play before you plug in the adapter. My only problem is that occasionally if I'm moving with the iPhone on my belt, the sound will "cut out" for a second.

I just received my iPhone 3G this week, and like many people, I was extremely unhappy that it did not come with Bluetooth support for my Motorola S9 stereo headset. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Apple chose not to support the Bluetooth A2DP standard. I expected more from a company on the leading edge of digital stereo and smart phone integration.

Fortunately, Sony came to the rescue with their TMR-BT8IP Bluetooth Transmitter. This small device plugs into the iPhone 30-pin connector and gets power from it, so there is no charging necessary (very nice). It comes in black or white, so it matches the current iPhone colors nicely. Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPod (White) Sony Bluetooth Wirleless Transmitter for iPod (Black)

I have been using the Motorola S9 with my Samsung Blackjack for about a year and half, and I love it. I have become hooked on listening to high quality stereo with no wires to get tangled. As an added bonus, you can pick up phone calls without missing a beat, and even redial without touching the phone. Motorola MOTOROKR S9 Bluetooth Version 2 Wireless Stereo Headset for Cell Phone

Getting everything to play well together was a pain, but now that it's working, I'm a very happy with Sony, and Motorola, but still annoyed with Apple! Apple fumbled the ball here, which added an unnecessary $60 expense to the iPhone along with hours of frustration...

Hopefully, the following instructions can help mitigate some frustration for other buyers of iPhone.

The trick to getting everything to play together is to recognize that the iPhone's built-in Bluetooth is used to control the phone features of the headset, and the Sony Bluetooth transmitter is used to control the stereo music features of the headset. You must pair the headset with the Sony transmitter first, and then pair the headset with the iPhone.

1. Turn off Motorola headset

2. Turn on bluetooth on iPhone

3. Plugin Sony to iPhone

4. Answer no to the iPhone Prompt "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone" this comes up every time :(

5. Press and hold Sony button for 7 seconds until blue LED flashes quickly

6. Press and hold Motorola headset power button until blue LED goes solid

7. Sony and Motoorla will automatically pair

8. Stereo music should now be heard on headset

9. Press and hold Sony button for 3 seconds until it tops playing music

10. Unplug Sony transmitter from iPhone

11. Turn off Motorola headset

12. Use iPhone Bluetooth control to start scanning for devices

13. Press and hold Motorola headset power button until blue LED goes solid

14. Motorola headset should show up on iPhone as unpaired

15. Pair iPhone with Motorola headset

16. Headset can now answer incoming calls using left ear button or iPhone answer

17. Plugin Sony to iPhone

18. Press and hold Sony button for 2 seconds

19. Stereo music should now be heard on headset

Even I still have trouble getting this script to work consistently, but rest assured, if you're persistent, it can be made to work, and it works very well. It's just a shame it has to be this painful Shame on you Apple...

I bought this because I had already purchased the Sony DRBT-50 headphones ( which are also Bluetooth ).

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it paired with the headphones, and how good the sound quality was.

The range seems to be about 20 ft ( unobstructed view ) from the iPod with this transmitter and the DRBT-50s..

( which was also a pleasant surprise, I am used to bluetooth's range usually being about 12 ft or so with the equipment I currently own ) After that range the signal started to drop out.

The device is powered by the iPod, so it cuts down on the playing time of the iPod ( I haven't determined how long it will last yet )

There is no way to control the volume with the iPod or this device, I needed to use the volume controls on the headphones ( which did a good job )

All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase.

GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge Controller

GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge ControllerWhen I ordered this hybrid controller I ordered it to furnish "automatic" charging for my homemade solar and wind power setup.

Well, when I opened the packaging, and took out the controller, it was much smaller than I had expected, and when I read the instructions for it, they made NO SENSE whatsoever!

I have had to do some guesswork to figure out what some of the symbols mean, and how you're supposed to connect your wiring to keep from destroying this controller.

This was bought as a 12 volt controller, but the so-called instructions said it was for 12 or 24 volt. However, where the battery output connectors are located, the instructions said one side was for 12 volt, and the other side was for 24 volt, and there are only two connectors! Come on! It is very obvious to anyone who knows about d.c. power that one connector HAS to be negative, and the other positive!

Whoever typed the instructions for this controller had absolutely NO idea what they were talking about!

About the only useful part of the instructions was where it actually told how many watts the controller was capable of handling from wind input and solar input. This information was NOT on this site for the device!

The maximum throughput this controller can handle for wind is 600 watts. 300 watts for solar power. Since I had ordered a 750 watt PM alternator for wind power, I had to order a rectifier to use for my wind generator. This controller cannot handle more than 600 watts for windthat is its' stated maximum.

If you intend to use this controller for "help" with your electricity production, it might work. However, if you need to use it "off the grid", I doubt this controller will meet your expectations. So just be careful is my suggestion.

They need to include a lot more information on this page about this controller than they have here.

I received this item without a manual. Repeated requests to Gudcraft to supply a digital manual met with no success. The product is therefore not documented which makes it useless. I own two other Gudcraft products their 400 watt turbine and the charge controller that comes with it. The documentation for those products is just plain horrible, so I shouldn't have been surprised that this item was going to be a disappointment. Not buying this brand again -finally learned my lesson.

Goal Zero 12201 Nomad 27M Solar Panel

Goal Zero 12201 Nomad 27M Solar PanelThis review is for the Goal Zero Nomad 27 solar panels Goal0 12201 Nomad 27M Solar Panel.

I bought these solar panels to use on a backwoods trip to keep the Sherpa 120 battery Goal0 11102 Sherpa 120 Battery charged that I used to run a CPAP machine while I sleep. Since this would be running a medical device, I felt it was important to know I could trust the system.

I carefully measured (using a Kill-a-Watt) the power my CPAP was consuming and knew that in good conditions the battery as found in the Sherpa 120 should last nearly 3 nights, so the solar panels wouldn't need to fully charge the system in a single day. I have also measured the CPAP using (using a Watts-Up) when running directly from 12v and it consumes about 30 watts a night (vs 37watts a night on 120v).

In field testing and subsequent follow up this is how I would rate the solar panels. These panels delivered the full 27 watts and worked well, actually charging my system quicker than I had anticipated. When solar charging the Sherpa 120 battery it takes longer than it does to charge from Grid power. To get the most from your solar panels, you'll need to adjust the panels to face the sun 2-3 times in a day. This was especially important for me when we were in a forest and the sun moving through the day changes where you need to be to get them in the sunlight. I was able to top off my system in a full day of Arizona sun using the Nomad 27 solar panels.

The panels fold up nicely which allows storage during transit and backpacking. On boating and a recent canoe trip, I packed the panels and battery in a Coleman dry bag for safety from the water. Coleman 29x13 Dry Gear Bag

The system is nicely rugged and in my case even blew over and down some rocks with no damage. I bought the available silicone sleeve for the battery which is a nice way to protect your investment. Use tent stakes in the provided grommet holes to keep things from blowing around. Focus on using 12v loads directly and make sure you are running your necessary equipment as efficiently as possible to maximize your run times. If you can get away without using an inverter, all of your devices will run longer from a fixed battery capacity, plus your weight will be physically lighter.

I currently own a number of the Goal Zero line. I have two 13.5 Nomad panels, a Nomad 7 and now, a 27 watt. In addition, I have a couple Estrella lights and a couple Light-a-life, a Sherpa 120 and various accesories. In short, the system works well and the watt hours are quite accurate. The system has seen me through various backpack and camping trips. It was great to be able to power up laptops while climbing. The lights were a welcome addition to an anniversary dinner in the wilderness. The Battery lives on my bike to power lights, sound and charge my phone while I ride.

The thing I appreciate most about the system is how compact it is. It is very solid and light (relatively) for the amount of power it offers. People have stood on the panels. The battery was dropped on the street from my bike. (bad securing on my part.) They've been in the rain and the battery had taken a small dunk in a creek and kept on running.

Like another review had noted, the unique connector ports did put me off at first. But the connections all are strong except for the bendable short connectors for the Estrella lights.

I found a great price for the Nomad 27 and jumped on it. I'm now able to charge the Nomad in a few hours. All of the panels fit into a small pannier on the bike.

Overall, a great product on a mostly superb line of products.

I chatted with their online help before ordering and was assured that the output plug on this unit would fit the 5.5/2.5 mm receptacle used by the Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source with Radio. The 5.5/2.5 is pretty common. I was disappointed when the unit arrived and its output jack was a 4.7 mm. I imagine it fits their battery, but I bought the Duracell only a few weeks ago when they were on sale on Amazon, and don't really want a new powerpack so soon.

Their online chat told me I could get a cigarette adapter output from the nomad 27 free of charge and could use that to charge my duracell. I accepted even though that is not ideal because of the huge size of the connector and the fact that cigarette adapters never seem to keep a good continuous circuit with even the slightest movement. They rush shipped it to me, which was a nice touch. However, when it arrived, it had yet another off-standard male barrel jack on it that would not plug into any output on the nomad 27! (The nomad does have a female receptacle for "chaining" which takes another 4.7mm jack, but this one is even larger than a 5.5mm.) Maybe it fits some other device they sell? I figure I better return the nomad 27 before my time runs out. I'll never know if it produces electricity, I guess.

The unit is less expensive than the Solaris 26 Watt Foldable Solar, folds into a nice compact package, seems sturdy enough, and the Photovoltaic cells are supposed to be a few percentage points more efficient than the brunton. However, if you can't connect it to anything, it's not very useful. [Yes, I could make my own adapter, but I really hesitate to have to cut their lead to do so. Plus my soldering on these small connectors has never been very good.]

I purchased this with the sherpa 120 battery. The cordura is very durable and the kit folds up nicely, if I can remember the fold sequence. Very light. Can strap on back of rucksack to directly recharge any USB item or recharge the sherpa 120 on the move. Can't think of any improvements to this product. Rapidly recharged my sherpa 120 after use.

Arkon IPMPWR Supercharge Power Docking Mount for iPhone - Retail Packaging - Black

Arkon IPMPWR Supercharge Power Docking Mount for iPhone - Retail Packaging - BlackI just want to let customers aware of how great this car charger is. I am very impressed with its quality, usually I am very skeptical when purchasing something made in china because most of the times its crappy!! but this charger from Arkon really delivers with great quality and beautiful design. I definitely recommend this product.

I've tried a few different docks for my phones (first a Galaxy S and now an iPhone 4) and had settled on a universal model that worked but didn't look great. This docking mount looks great and is an elegant solution for my iPhone 4. The suction mount attaches securely to my windshield and the phone is held firmly in place in the dock. It's easy to insert and remove the phone. I really like that the power cord connects to the cradle itself. Although my phone has a thick rubber cover on it, the connector seats firmly. The cradle does not obstruct the iPhone's main camera, so if you position the mount correctly you can use the iPhone as a dash cam (and you can watch yourself drive if that's your thing). And one last thing: I can charge my iPod Nano in it, too, thus eliminating one more cable in the cockpit. Sweet.

Update 5/23/13: I've just discovered an incompatibility with our Chevy Tahoe. The Tahoe has a USB input that works with the iPhone, iPod and iPad, so you can listen to audio, control the device from the dashboard or steering wheel, and charge it at the same time. (Previously I was using it in a Chevy pickup with no USB input.) Although the Arkon mount will still charge the device using that port, it will not play the audio. I get "No USB device connected." So that's annoying, and something I hope they'll look into fixing.

The dock is very adjustable and holds my iPhone 4s with a case, including an OtterBox. It also swivels and adjusts to suit your viewing needs, holding the position in which you set it. The suction on the windshield is airtight and never drops or shifts. I've only had it a few weeks, but so far I LOVE this product!

Just got my new Arkon dock for my iphone. Honestly it's a super relief for me. I hated driving and looking at my phone for navigation on my lap. So not safe. I was pretty desperate and decided to get this. It's perfect. The design looks sleek. Not bulky at all. I can mount it on my window or my dashboard. Now it looks like a cool master control HUD for my music and driving directions.

Car Charger for Lg VX8000 VX8100 VX9800 VX6100 Vx7000 Vx3200 Vehicle Car Battery Charger / AdapterBecause I had to downgrade to a previous model phone, I found myself with no charger. Cellular companies still have these chargers and still want over $30 for them even though they no longer sale the phone and since I am not a rich person, I found myself in serious need so I ordered this charger............BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Great price, shipping cost is where they got me and then the product didn't even last a full week and then you're stuck with it as the price to return is about as much as what u paid to ship it. Once again I am without a charger and thus without a phone. I CANNOT CONSCIOUSLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR PURCHASE. If at all possible look in pawn shops and thrift stores if you are strapped for cash like me or if you can afford it, purchase the overpriced ones at the cell stores that won't even last you a month.

Inexpensive item. Still worth the cheap cost. Works just fine. I would buy another one if needed.

Samsung Official OEM Car Charger for your EPIC 4G Phone Original Equipment and Manufacturer (DC 12

Samsung Official OEM Car Charger for your EPIC 4G Phone Original Equipment and ManufacturerIt's advertised as SAMSUNG OEM.. The one I got is not and came with a weird peel away cover that goes over the LED-light.. it doesnt stay on so the LED-light is exposed along with the inside wiring.. very odd.. It also has an attached USB port on the top-next to the LED light. I have not tried if that connection works.

I've found that the connection to my charger port is not perfect, it sometimes looses connection if the phone is moved whatsoever. However, if I just put the phone down (shouldnt drive and be on phone anyway) it stays connected and works fine.

For the price, this is just fine, but SAMSUNG OEM it's not, the quality build is not the same

Good car charger. I like the fact that it doesn't stay on if the phone is not plugged in. The light doesn't light up until you plug your phone in, so you can leave it plugged in the car all the time.

I've had my Garmin nuvi for a couple of years now. I do not use it on a daily basis but use it on longer trips or in unfamiliar cities. The problem I had in the past was that it would work great for about two hours. Then the battery would run down, I would plug in the Garmin cable I got with the unit but the screen was dim. It worked but you really couldn't read it if you were driving (fine if I had a second person along to read and navigate). I know, I know I should have called tech support long before now. I even bought an extended warranty on it but never called them. I just didn't use it very often and just kept forgetting.

All that written I LOVE this new power cable. I don't know if the other was defective but this one works like its supposed to. The screen on the Garmin stays bright all the time it is plugged in. We took an extended trip to Portland this past week, used it the whole time up there, and it worked perfectly. I'll be using it much more now.

1. I liked the packaging. Extremely easy to get into and cable was packed well.

2. I like the right angle USB mini plug and that the cable goes BEHIND the Garmin when plugged in, out of the way.

3. Cable is plenty long for my use. It reaches mid-dash from the cigarette lighter plug and also reaches passenger seat easily if using navigator.

4. Cable is very sturdily built with nice bright blue light showing that it is charging. The light is easy to see even in strong daylight. The cord is sturdy. The USB plug fits snugly into my Garmin and charging end fits snugly but not too tight into the cigarette lighter. It is sturdy but still coils fairly easily to stow in glove box when not in use.

In my case, I would buy this over a Garmin power cord any time.

I purchased this to power my newly-purchased Garmin 62s, but it turns out the plastic head around the mini USB connector is too large to fit into the port on the back of the 62 series. I did read the description here, and I'm aware it isn't specifically listed to support the 62 series, but it was linked as something people bought who also bought the 62s, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Amazon was great about their return policy on this, as they just replied "keep it it's on us" due to the return shipping costs. I found another adapter that is listed to specifically fit the 62 series on Amazon here: Vehicle Power Adapter Cable for Garmin Oregon 200 300 400 450 550 Approach G3 G5 Colorado 400 300 Dokata 10 20 GPS Series GPSMAP 62 78 I C T S PN010-10851-11 the key is to search on Garmin's part number 010-10851-11

I would have rated it 5 stars if the AmazonBasics adapter had just been a little bit smaller on the plug end so it would fit the 62 series, although the right-angle would put the cable coming off the top of the radio rather than down the back it still would have been usable without needing to trim the plastic surrounding the mini USB plug.

I've had a Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator since December 2008, and it's served me well. However, the power cable that came with the unit from the factory in the last few weeks before I got this AmazonBasics model has been acting weird. The old power supply didn't work right 100% of the time, that could be from a couple of years of in/out in/out in the power adapter slot. Anyways, the timing of this AmazonBasics unit was fortuitous.

I picked one of these AmazonBasics power cords up, and it works perfectly. This is one of those devices where it's hard to do a "big" review, because it either works or it does not. This works. A few cosmetic differences between this and the factory model are all I can talk about, really.

1) The AmazonBasics unit has a smaller cord than the factory unit. Inside a car, this should be a non issue, but it does have a somewhat smaller cord.

2) The blue power light on the AmazonBasics unit is MUCH brighter than the red light that was on my factory unit.

These are both very minor nits, the thing works great, and if you need one of these for your Nuvi, I'd say go for it.

You never know with these cables. Corners are often cut, leaving something that easily falls out of the cigarette lighter or that makes a faulty mini-USB connection, etc. But none of that here: this does what you need and it is surprisingly well put together. Recommended, and solid for the price: beating out many of the OEM equivalents that come from device manufacturers for half the price.

It's nice to have an option to replace a Garmin car power cord with something other than Garmin's own. While this generally isn't a place to rate a product based on its price, I will at least mention that I would hope Amazon would make this a hefty amount lower than Garmin's own (Garmin nüvi Vehicle Power Cable).

As for the cord, it is sturdy and seems to be of good quality and it worked just fine with my Garmin nuvi 1690 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth Navigator with Google Local Search & Real-Time Traffic Alerts. The only difference is the length. Both my nuvi 205w and 1690 have a power cord that is 14 inches longer than this Amazon Basics cord. The way that I have my GPS mounted, this cord is not long enough. For many people, this 14 inch length difference may be a welcome feature because of too much slack.

As long as you verify that you don't need those extra 14 inches, this cord is perfectly fine.

Brunton Axiom UBC

Brunton Axiom Universal Battery ChargerHaving used Brunton products on several deployments I can speak to the quality of everything they make. This is the reason I made a leap on this item, despite a dismal lack of information about the Axiom or any field reviews for it. When I read the description that this could charge nearly any type of rechargeable battery from camcorders to digital cameras and NiCad batteries I was wary.

Well, it works. In a simple but ingenious way Brunton has made the connecting posts moveable. Adjustments are made horizontally and vertically and the sliding cover extends to accomidate varrying battery size. I also own the Brunton Solaris 62 Brunton Solaris 62 Foldable Solar Array solar panel and I used it as my test power source for the Axiom.

First, the package contents. The Axiom is small, a little less than the length of an iPhone when closed. It comes with two power cords, one is a standard Inverter plug and the other is a DC car cigarette plug adaptor. The standard inverter plug has a nice feature, the prongs fold up into the inverter for stowage AND to connect to the two types of travel plugs the unit comes with. There is a 3 prong British style plug adaptor and a 2 round plug European plug adaptor for use with 220 volt outlets. These adaptors click into place onto the inverter and have a small latche on the base for removing them. Very simple and economic.

I used the Car plug adaptor to connect to a female adaptor lead from my Solaris 62. The Axiom has a color backlit LCD with black characters and shows a lightning bolt icon when there is no battery being charged. On the rear part of the Axiom where the power cable is connected is a single USB port. This is really really useful and I will explain later.

You select a battery of your choice. You can charge two AA or AAA rechargeable batteries (no matter the manufacturer) at a time, or just a single AAA or AA at a time, doesn't matter. I like that because sometimes I only need to charge a single battery and most recharging units need two in parallell for the charge process to begin. I chose two Energizer AA rechargeable batteries. I adjusted the prongs in the Axiom to line up with the positive ends of the batteries and the Axiom took over. It detects the chemical makeup of the batteries and displays it on the screen, and then indicates the combined charge level and begins charging. I was really amazed by this, because the Axiom doesn't look like it packs this kind of technology.

I then connected a nearly drained iPhone 5 to the USB port on the back of the Axiom, thus saving myself from having to charge electronics in sequence. I left the whole setup alone for less than an hour and when I checked everything was charged and ready to go. A total win for Brunton on this! If you have a bad battery the device will show an error message and will resume charging once the bad battery has been removed (some manufacturer chargers will continue to charge regardless of the state of the battery).

I now can leave all of my different adaptors, cables and connectors home. I take the axiom and my electronic devices and I am set. I highly commend Brunton for this newest innovation and I HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone interested in lightening their travel pack.

Cobra PR 3000VP 6-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)

Cobra PR 3000VP 6-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio
  • UHF/FM X2 Power Technology
  • Switchable power output/up to 6 mile range
  • Vox/VibrAlert
  • 22 Channels/38 Privacy codes
  • Earbud Microphone

I purchased two pairs of Cobra PR 3000 GMRS 2 watt radios for our ski trip this year. It's one of the best purchases I ever made. I looked at Motorola and Midland before purchasing these. They have more power than Motorola and better built than Midland. I like that most of the buttons are on the face and you don't have to do a lot of menu browsing. We skied at Alta and Snowbird Utah. The ability to talk over the slopes really amazed me. We tried them out in our neighborhood and they worked pretty well. We could converse for a half mile with no trouble at all through trees and houses. However if you go behind a hill the ability to converse is greatly reduced. At Alta Snowbird you are in a canyon with granite walls, so I think the signal is bouncing off the canyon walls, becuase we could talk for miles, even with ridges between us. At the frequencies and power levels of these radios you should get great reception if you are in line of sight without too many obstructions. But don't expect to go much over a half mile if you have a lot of obstructions. If you are true line of sight with no obstructions, you can go further than the 5 miles advertised. In a granite canyon like little cottonwood canyon they were great! We were in a group of 8 skiers and it was snowing hard and difficult to stay together. My 12 year old daughter got separated from us and called in to let us know where she was. It saved hours of anxiety for us and kept us from ruining our ski day. Same thing happened the next day with my 11 year old daughter. As far as I'm concerned it was well worth the price.

PREMIUM ROCKETFISH APPLE IPOD IPHONE IPAD CAR CHARGER WITH USB PORT

PREMIUM ROCKETFISH APPLE IPOD IPHONE IPAD CAR CHARGER WITH USB PORTWhile looking to replace the HORRENDOUS iPhone car charger sold to me at an AT&T store with an AT&T logo on it, an employee at BestBuy recommended this model to me and I bought it there. Really enjoyed using it so

I bought my wife one through Amazon. It's sturdy, stays in place and charges fairly quickly. Only reason I don't give it a 5 star is because the cable is fairly short and curly. I like the cord to be straight and long.

Product was delivered in timely manner and works as advertised. Very pleased and would recommend this product for anyone who need to charge their IPOD/IPAD while on the go in their car.

This product works very fine and quite handy for me in charging my IOS and other USB chargeable devices while in the car. The best part of this was the seller's service. I was sent a product that had the IOS charger part defective and when I contacted them via Amazon, they were courteous and did refund me half the purchase cost for the inconvenience when they sent me a replacement. This works fine.

Porta-Jump 91300 Emergency Jump Starter

Porta-Jump 91300 Emergency Jump StarterHas more than paid for itself by saving roadside service calls plus the time and inconvenience it has saved... a great back up for when lights are accidentally left on and drains the battery too low to start the vehicle. Requires a functional lighter to work.

BTW, not meant to use for a bad battery that will not take a charge; only for situations where your battery still takes a charge but is run down ie by a light left on or a loose/corroded battery terminal, etc.

I bought one of these in a store about 3 years ago (I've forgotten which automotive store it's been so long). I had a number of instances back there where I needed a jump, and I loved those little kits the triple AAA guys carry to jump cars, much easier than involving another car. So when I saw this in the store I had to buy it. I admit the entire time I've had it I was skeptical it would work. But fortunately I've not had occasion to use it, until today. I remembered that I had this in the back, and despite the package saying a 5 year lifetime, I was not at all confident that it would work after this long. But I opened it up, followed the little instruction list on the back of the battery, and sure enough 10 minutes later my car started right up. The thing paid for itself because triple AAA wanted to charge 35 dollars to come down and jump us. Totally glad I bought this thing.

And like other reviewers have said, this won't help if you have a piece of crap battery in your car. Even normal jumping won't get you far with a lousy battery that needs replacing.

Another thing: Make sure you have some strong scissors in the car to open it, or take it out before storing in the car. I was lucky I was at a library at the time, and could borrow a pair. They make the plastic packaging on these things very strong.

It will only work if the Battery is low because of leaving the headlights on.

It will not work if the battery is bad such as having a bad cell, bad starter etc.

Bought one from local Target store a few months back and leave it in car just in case one day I might need it. Yesterday, my neighbor came and asked me for help to jump start his car (Mercedes-Benz ML320, SUV). Car won't start because he left the lights on and drained out most of the battery power. Battery still has enough power to unlock doors and roll down windows.

Tested the battery with PortaJump and got a green light, meaning the battery is ready to accept new charge. Connected the PortaJump power pack and left it for 10-minutes.... car still will not start. I did notice the battery has more power after charging it with PortaJump, but it did get not enough cranking amp to start the car.

Eventually, I have to help my neighbor jump start his SUV the old fashion way.

PortaJump is very portable and rechargeable, but it may not work for cars/trucks that needs a lot of cranking amps.

I was skeptical at first, but I bought it anyway because I liked the idea, and thought it might be worth it. I left my lights on one day while I was disc golfing, and of course my battery died. I plugged it in, and my car started 10 minutes later. Make sure you read the directions. The car has to be in accessory mode for the Portajump to charge your battery.

Motorola T305 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Car Kit

Motorola T305 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Car KitThis is much better than a head set for talking while driving. Great volume, clear voice at both ends. Love it and Amazon had it for a very good prioe.

Hello Everyone,

First off, I would like to start by saying "I LOVE Motorola Products"! Right out of the box the T305 performed as advertised and best of all, I did not have to go to college and get a PHD in electronics to figure out how to setup and use the unit. I have read other reviews that complain about the T305 not being load enough and to them I say, YOU NEED HEARING AIDS! (LOL) If this unit were any louder, you would be able to hear it from the orbiting space station. Look folks, I drive a truck, a big Toyota 4x4 truck and with the radio blasting Toby Keith (The Angry American Song) along with the AC pumping out the cold air, I can STILL hear my calling party. As I was saying, can you hear me now? HECK YEAH!

I love this product so much that I sold 4 more units (Uh Motorola, are you reading this....need a salesperson?....HINT HINT HINT) to friends after each of them saw and heard what this tiny little box (about the size of a box of matches) can produce. If you are looking for a simple to use, LOUD and CLEAR little Bluetooth speaker, then look no further and hey, the price of admission is cheap given the other more expensive and COMPLEX to use options.

Hey, can YOU hear me NOW!

Ciao!

Sure it sounds great, have a bluetooth attached to your visor instead of your head, but the speakers are so quite, and the people on the other end of the line can't hear a word you're saying. I'm really disappointed with this product. I did quite a bit of research, and bought based on the great reviews this item had...what a waste of money, I'm now looking for a bluetooth that actually works.

I have used this speakerphone for some 6 months now. I have only charged it one time during that period. I don't use it very much as I don't drive very far often. But when I do drive, it does what it suppose to do. I have no problem hearing the person on the speakerphone and they seems to hear me as well fine. No complaints. Pick it up for a good price on Amazon for less than $30. Included a car charger and a wall charger as well.

Alemite 14.4 Volt Cordless Grease Gun #585-B

Alemite 14.4 Volt Cordless Grease Gun #585-BI have owned and used almost every grease gun available over the years. I own and operate heavy machinery and have to grease dozens of fittings daily. This alemite cordless gun is by far the best way to do it. The 14 volt last a long time. The long 36" hose is very handy. But most importantly the gun does not air lock! You pull the trigger and grease comes out. Super quality and construction. I also shopped this pretty hard and amazon was the best best price by far. I found the same gun selling for a hundred dollars more other places.

This product is very well built, easy to use and with enough grease pumping power for most any service work. The pump is not powerful enough to break through a plugged fitting but I doubt any greaser will do that. The nicest thing about it is that is has yet to air lock and upon replacing a grease tube it is immediately ready to pump grease without any further issues. I used the gun for an entire farming season mainly greasing swathers, balers and mowers without recharging -probably 8 to 10 tubes of grease. It is more expensive than other cordless guns but I have long ago learned that you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.
