DEWALT Bare-Tool DC515B 18-Volt Cordless 1/2 Gallon Wet/Dry Portable Vacuum (Tool Only, No Battery)
Its a little noisy, but thats because it's actually doing something. If you already own 18 volt DeWalt tools, batteries, and a charger, then this is a really nice all-purpose tool to have around for a reasonable price. I haven't used it with any fluids yet, but it seems to have enough power to do that with no problem. The quick-change-quick-charge batteries are just as handy on this as they are on all of the other DeWalt tools. This won't do what a shop vac does, but it handles medium-small particles nicely. It doesn't come with any tools other than the detachable hose. The pictures are not always exceedingly clear, but the hose is normally stretched over the handle and anchored in the small yellow end which serves as the main vacuum nozzle. This "nozzle" is hard plastic with a fixed shape, but it seems to work well for most encounters. The detachable hose stretches out a few feet so it reaches about as far as an arm can reach, making it is handy, too. I think that this is worthy of the DeWalt name.
1) Yes, it is a bit on the loud side. The motor has virtually no sound insulation with the obvious reason of keeping the weight and size minimal. This really is not a big deal as you are probably only using it for a couple minutes at a time. I'm actually a bit shocked that so many people seem to have such a problem with the noise. From the reviews you'd think that they are holding a jet engine in their hand. If you have any experience with power tools or shop vacs, the noise is a non-issue, just don't use it next to someone napping on the couch!!
2) The suction power for its size and weight is exceptionally good. It is SO much better than a traditional hand vacuum that it's really not comparable. My Hoover wet-dry hand vac was instantly rendered pointless and offered to my neighbor as a gift.
3) No, the capacity is not terribly large, but it is not designed for picking up a great deal of material. If you're concerned about this, know that opening the container and emptying it is extremely simple and quick. If it's still not big enough, you obviously need a shop vac, not this.
4) Yes, if you are vacuuming up fine particles such as drywall dust or fine sawdust, the filter clogs fairly quickly and you will start to lose suction. The filter is probably actually a bit TOO good for very fine particles. Nothing gets through it. Both a positive and negative really. My recommendation is to simply remove the cylinder type filter after EVERY use with fine material and clean it by smacking it a few times on your palm over a garbage can, preferably outside. The filter comes out extremely easily after the collection container is removed. Just a quarter turn and it pops off. Simple and fast. As a general rule, cleaning the filter regularly is a must to keep the suction high.
On the whole, an excellent item. I would however recommend to anyone from Dewalt reading these reviews to seriously consider including a crevice tool to attach to the hose. It would be an excellent addition and could be mounted on some sort of external clip on the side of the housing or perhaps the housing itself could have a storage opening engineered into the body of the housing itself to slide the tool into to store it when not using it. Other than this minor gripe, I have no complaints. I intend to go out and find a crevice tool that fits the hose, 1 1/4 inch, but I really shouldn't have to at this price, it should come with one. Just got this vacuum today and it is great. Has wonderful suction. Other reviews talk about it being noisy. This is not true. It is no louder than any other dust buster. I bought it without the battery as we have plenty of them from other Dewalt tools. I have already thrown away my dust buster. Highly recommend it.I call this One-Bad-Mamma-Jamma dustbuster! My wife calls it the Roach-Sucker. If you pull the hose out of the nozzle you can stretch it out and chase down even the most wiley roach. Just get the nozzle close the the little runner and he's toast. Oh, remember to empty it out before the roach starts decaying in the bin...
This is not a toy like every useless rechargeable dustbuster. It's a real shopvac, just smaller. It has enough suction to replace a low-end shop vac, but be warned, it is about as loud as a full size vac too.
The bare tool is a great way to get the vac at a reasonable price if you already have an 18v drill or whatever. You'll toss out the crappy little dust buster and never look back. Just be careful cleaning up really fine dusty messes, it is difficult to clean stuff like drywall dust out of the filter.I got this for my wife as a portable vac for the house. I was tired of the home, portable vacs that die all the time and only last a few years. Although this is a little bigger and heavier, it has twice the power and capacity and, can suck up liquids as well, and is easier to empty. I will build a rack to hang it in a closet. It only costs about 20% more than the poor quality portable home vacs. Because I have 1/2 a dozen Dewalt tools that use this battery (I have 4 batteries and two chargers), I know I will always have a charged battery for the unit. It doesn't come with any attachments but I found that my central vac tools fit on the Dewalt hose (which is quite short by the way). Believe it or not, it was a perfect Christmas present for her. She was thrilled!

Targus PAPWR005U Mobile Power Inverter
I successfully used the Targus PAPWR005U power inverter on a 400+ mile trip to power my Mac PowerBook G4 (to watch DVDs) with the kids. Unfortunately it only made the one trip. The next week, on another 400+ mi car ride, the inverter started beeping constantly and then went into shutdown mode, I'm assuming because it was drawing too much power and was overheating. At 90 Watts, the power output matched the power draw from the Mac PowerBook, but didn't have enough umph to spare. I'd caution everyone to check the power rating on their laptop power bricks first before using it with a power inverter. Get an inverter that is at least 1.5-2x the power rating of the device you want to use.
It has one electrical outlet, and above that is a cigarette lighter outlet, so if you have other devices that need that kind outlet you can use them while this power inverter is plugged in.
The plug fits kind of loosely in my cigarette lighter outlet, but I don't know if that's the plug or the outlet on my car.
The only thing I don't like about this item is the "no tangle" cord. Its one of those coiled up cords, like a telephone cord (look at the picture of the item). The cord is long enough that it could stretch to the backseat, but if I were to try this it would pull the plug out of the outlet. Its coiled so tight that I couldn't really put it anywhere that would require the coil to be stretched. It just annoys me that they call it a 36" cord. For practical use not more than probably 18", but I don't have the item right in front of me to measure it.
I'll still give this item 5 stars. 4.5 if Amazon allowed 1/2 stars.

The first and only time I tried using this for a legitimate need was when I plugged in my laptop to it. It started a long, continuous, high-pitched signal and flashing a light. What does that mean? I stopped using it immediately, since it probably couldn't mean something good. Was it drawing too much from it? There are no instructions to tell you what this means. I tried going to the web site for insight on this, but just got the same info as what was on the package. No help. Nice concept, now only if it worked. Borrowed my daughter's to test it out before buying one for myself. Plugged my Compaq R4000 notebook in and got about 10 minutes worth of computing done before the inverter's yellow light started blinking and the "shut me down" alarm started chirping. I removed the plug from the cigarette lighter and the metal was hot enough to burn me.Not recommended.

20 Watt Silver Frame Mono-crystalline Solar Panel and battery Charger
This panel appears to work as advertised. The frame is fairly rugged and has six holes drilled for mounting. Ratings stamped on back of unit are: Rated Power: 20W +/5%, Isc: 1.24 Amps, Vcc: 21.5V, Im: 1.15 A, Vm: 17.2V, Test Condition: AM1.5, 100mW/cm squared, 25 degrees Centigrade. Inside the junction box on the back, there is a diode in line with one conductor to prevent reverse current flow. The plastic corner protectors are a bit thin, and two of them were cracked when I received the unit, but this was not an important enough feature to me to cause me to return the unit. Brunton Axiom UBC
Having used Brunton products on several deployments I can speak to the quality of everything they make. This is the reason I made a leap on this item, despite a dismal lack of information about the Axiom or any field reviews for it. When I read the description that this could charge nearly any type of rechargeable battery from camcorders to digital cameras and NiCad batteries I was wary.Well, it works. In a simple but ingenious way Brunton has made the connecting posts moveable. Adjustments are made horizontally and vertically and the sliding cover extends to accomidate varrying battery size. I also own the Brunton Solaris 62 Brunton Solaris 62 Foldable Solar Array solar panel and I used it as my test power source for the Axiom.
First, the package contents. The Axiom is small, a little less than the length of an iPhone when closed. It comes with two power cords, one is a standard Inverter plug and the other is a DC car cigarette plug adaptor. The standard inverter plug has a nice feature, the prongs fold up into the inverter for stowage AND to connect to the two types of travel plugs the unit comes with. There is a 3 prong British style plug adaptor and a 2 round plug European plug adaptor for use with 220 volt outlets. These adaptors click into place onto the inverter and have a small latche on the base for removing them. Very simple and economic.
I used the Car plug adaptor to connect to a female adaptor lead from my Solaris 62. The Axiom has a color backlit LCD with black characters and shows a lightning bolt icon when there is no battery being charged. On the rear part of the Axiom where the power cable is connected is a single USB port. This is really really useful and I will explain later.
You select a battery of your choice. You can charge two AA or AAA rechargeable batteries (no matter the manufacturer) at a time, or just a single AAA or AA at a time, doesn't matter. I like that because sometimes I only need to charge a single battery and most recharging units need two in parallell for the charge process to begin. I chose two Energizer AA rechargeable batteries. I adjusted the prongs in the Axiom to line up with the positive ends of the batteries and the Axiom took over. It detects the chemical makeup of the batteries and displays it on the screen, and then indicates the combined charge level and begins charging. I was really amazed by this, because the Axiom doesn't look like it packs this kind of technology.
I then connected a nearly drained iPhone 5 to the USB port on the back of the Axiom, thus saving myself from having to charge electronics in sequence. I left the whole setup alone for less than an hour and when I checked everything was charged and ready to go. A total win for Brunton on this! If you have a bad battery the device will show an error message and will resume charging once the bad battery has been removed (some manufacturer chargers will continue to charge regardless of the state of the battery).
I now can leave all of my different adaptors, cables and connectors home. I take the axiom and my electronic devices and I am set. I highly commend Brunton for this newest innovation and I HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone interested in lightening their travel pack.

Car charger connection does not fit into the Motorola PEBL. I guess that's what I get for $5.99 plus shipping. It is hardly worth sending back. The shipping costs more than the chargers.

Packaging:
Amazon shipped me an extremely beat up box. No stars removed for this since it is for the product but the corners were smashed in pretty hard.
The "retail" box it ships in is very nicely sleeved with all the random Engrish on the outside and a very sturdy, thick (albeit smashed) inner white box that folds out.
The unit was wrapped with some foam and a plastic sheet over the glass.
Protip: Don't remove that plastic sheet until after testing the unit, setting it up and hiding the cables or you'll be cleaning fingerprints everywhere.
Inside the box: the unit itself, a standard miniUSB to USB cable, miniUSB to car accessory power cable (roughly ~10ft long, I forgot to measure it), an AV "white and yellow" cable, and more Engrish papers.
Positive:
The unit is big. Probably around twice the size of my stock 2010 Toyota Corolla rear-view mirror. It was a shock but the way these are designed to clip onto an existing rear-view mirror means it has to be larger so the camera can see the road. I actually like the larger mirror much more after having it mounted but it does create a small blind spot to the front of the car. Shouldn't be an issue for larger cars, trucks, or SUVs but anything smaller than a Corolla will take up a chunk of windshield visibility.
Having the LCD and camera on the left is awesome, this alone makes it better than the HDVR-150.
The camera position is slightly adjustable since it is on a swivel base and can be adjusted independent of the mirror.
Update 2/25/13: I have managed to turn off the LCD during driving. I believe it's the "motion detection" option but not sure, I was just fiddling with it, went driving and magically the LCD turns off a few minutes after booting, this bumps the product to 4 stars.
Negative:
The video quality even at 1080HD was very... Questionable. I definitely wouldn't be able to read any license plates without being right behind them even at 1080HD. There's no reason to use the 720 or lower settings.
Worst flaw so far has to be the card slot for the microSD card. I nearly pushed my microSD card into the unit itself, since there's a hole there just big enough for the microSD to fall in if you don't pay attention to where you're putting the card. *Be very careful inserting a microSD card.*
"Rearview" is imprinted on the top of the mirror. Might be cool in Asia but that's just redundant and unnecessary.
More of an annoyance than anything but the car power adapter is at a 90 degree angle to the right when plugged in, not to the left. No big deal.
If I keep this unit, I'll probably rip the speaker out. It serves no purpose but to make annoying sounds while powering on and changing menu settings, only the latter can be disabled.
Neutral:
My 16GB Samsung class 2 microSD card did not work in the unit. It gives an error message. I'm going to chalk it up to the "class 2" part, I will do testing on higher capacity cards in the near future. I am looking for options to hide the cable and will post if I find a solution to that. The 8GB class 6 microSD card I am using works great even at the highest resolution setting.
Night drive clip
Literally my "video review" is just a 10 minute, unedited clip of just a Saturday night out. I tested the video at 10, 45, 70, and 5 miles per hour, respectively. The video is unprofessional but I could not think of a more real life situation where the camera would come to play. I did not test the daytime features yet since night driving is "the torture test". If I can see things at night, I can see those same things during the day. This video is linked in the comments section and tagged as NSFW for the audio content.
Conclusion:
I deduct a star for the video quality. The picture is pretty good but unless I can see license plates from at least 30ft away at night, and I'd gladly pay double the price for this feature, I'm not giving full marks. I should drop a star for the annoying welcome *sound*, the microSD card slot problem, and all the other small problems I listed above but I won't. I believe at $99, the product does what it advertises at a great price and would recommend it to a friend. Please leave a comment if you have any questions or would like anything tested.
I *will* update on reliability if the unit ever stops working.For this price, you can't get any better Car Dvr Camera with a 2.7 -inch LED than this one! I like its LED screen on the left side of the unit because it's easy for me to view as a driver. This Car Dvr also works as a rear view mirror! The set up is pretty simple since it is built in rechargeable battery, just insert a micro sd card in the unit then power on; set the time/date and select recording resolution! Installation is also very easy, just clip it on the car's rear view mirror then plug the supplied car dc to usb wire to the unit and that's it! It will turns on and start to record when you start the car, then it will stops recording and turns off itself when you shut off the car. The recording video quality on this Car Dvr is very good! It records 720p in 30fps; 1080 in 15fps and 1080p in 10fps. It captures still image in 12Mps. This unit uses micro sd card up to 32gb. It does loop recording in 2min, 5min and 15min. I configured it in 1080/15fps with sounds on 15min loop recording setting and it works great! With my setting, it captures street signs and front car license plate clearly on a close distance. Another thing that I like about this Car Dvr is the built in speaker was pretty loud. I enjoyed to play back the recordings on this Car Dvr very much!
This video illustrates a strange effect I'm getting in HD mode. The recording is very jerking, some frames are missing. That's visible when there is an approaching car passing on the video. No such problem in any other modes.I chose this one because the camera is on the left side, which shifts the mirror to the left eliminating the interference with the passenger's sun visor.
It will record at 30 fps using a class 4 uSD card when set to 1280x768. With a class 6 card the frame rate drops to 15 at 1440x1080, and at 1920x1080 the frame rate drops to 10. It also has SVGA or WVGA setting which I have not tried. I think the 1280x768 looks the best, so that's the one I am using.
The Chinese/English instructions can be confusing, but you'll figure it out. The product I received must be a newer revision than the one the instructions were written for. One setting in particular, the frame rate, is not an option. I think the unit automatically calculates the highest frame rate it can use based upon the resolution and flash card's speed, which makes more sense to me.
Mine seems to be a little out of focus on the left side. The lens looks okay, so I am going to try cleaning it to see if that clears it up. The image is still clear enough to identify a vehicle. To read a license plate the vehicle must be fairly close, such as when pulling up to one that is stopped.

I think this thing is pretty cool. It works great. It takes a decent amount of time to figure out what buttons do what due to the ambiguous instructions though. Sometimes I hit a button while its recording and a key appears. I don't know if I locked something or if it is telling me it locked the functions because I shouldn't be playing with it while driving. Also the volume during playback seems to confuse me a bit.Make sure you get a MICRO sd card though. I was a dope and clicked on one of those "70% of people who purchased this item also purchased this item" things. The other item was an SD card. When the mirror arrived I saw the micro sd slot and knew right away. Oh well, I picked one up at P.C. Richards locally. 32GB class 10 for twenty something bucks.

Cons:
1. Doesn't hold a non-standard battery. Extended life batteries wont fit.
2. Does not fit well with any case on your storm. You will have to remove it if it is much thicker than a sheet of paper.
3. Price is a bit steep for a cradle, even with the battery charger.

Not only is it well designed, when you have it cradled and you use it (as it's charging) I believe it is ergonomically more comfortable than with the storm alone...

This item says it will charge 2 batteries at once. That is true but only 2 standard batteries. It will not charge an extended life battery which is bigger than the standard, off course, either with the battery on the phone or in the cradle. The slot for the battery needs to be deeper. i've had car chargers before for my Iphone (should come in the box), and this is one of the bests.The cord lenght let's you use the phone while charging, and the plug fits perfect does not unplug easily as other chargers i've had.
The only thing that could be fixed would be the led's on it's top, showing that it is connected it's blue, and at night it's too intense.
But is a great product.

I expected this to work flawlessly because it about two times the price of the cheaper models..however my experience has been very mixed. Sometimes if you get the cable position just right, it works fine, else it will beep incessantly and no amount of adjusting will solve the problem.I'll give it a few more months and then decide if I am going to keep it or replace it.

This charger is serviceable and, at least so far, doesn't seem to be as cheaply made as many of the other chargers that have been trashed in the reviews I've read. It is the case that the connection to my phone isn't very tight, and unless you're careful, the charger can easily get disconnected from the phone. Aside from that caveat, I see nothing wrong with this charger. BTW the blue light that one reviewer complained about is, to my eyes, quite dim, and nicely serves the purpose of allowing me to see at night whether the charger is in fact plugged in.UPDATE: the charger spontaneously fell apart after eight months of light use. I reassembled it, after which it worked for a few days, but now it's permanently deceased. I give it two stars for working as long as it did, but really. Our nation is drowning in cheap imported crap! I'm getting worried about our future.

HMDX Audio HX-B040 Eclipse Beside Audio
This clock is a total piece of garbage. Some of the lights for the numbers went out shortly after I purchased it. Also the "gradual wake" is not that great. Instead of the alarm starting softly and getting louder, it's just really LOUD beeps that start off intermittently and get more rapid. So it's crazy loud right out of the box. It's more like a "startling wake" instead of a gradual one. Spend a little extra money and get a better alarm clock. It will be worth it.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It does not work, is impossible to set, and is a complete rip-off. I wish I had read the other reviews first, but thought I would be okay with this inexpensive, relatively uncomplicated product. WRONG. None of the buttons work, the instructions are useless, and none of the presets or features are functional. Whoever created this product obviously knew this was garbage, and decided to unload them on unsuspecting consumers anyway. I picked this one because of the price and because it was also included in Amazon Prime shipping.. It does what it says it does. Would be cooler if it had a litte radio, but... what ev... Got this for my wife when her old one died. The instructions are really not that hard to follow and are also available on the HMDX site if you lose them (Like I did ( )).It's not quite as intuitive when it comes to setting the time and alarms as the older alarm clocks. The use of international "idiot symbols" is not helpful at all. I'm not an idiot, so I don't read them very well.(Hence, the need for the instructions in the first place.)
Battery backup is provided by a 2032 battery (the same as used in most computers) and lasts a whole lot longer than the old 9 volt types.
The gradual wake feature is really nice in that it doesn't put your body in "panic mode" like most loud alarms. It's persistance is what does the trick.
I haven't used the usb function, but all other functions work fine. I especially like the "DST" button when the time change comes around.
The only quality issue that I have is the use of a transformer power adapter instead of an internal transformer. It is too easy to accidentally unplug the power while fumbling for the snooze button. That is the reason that I had to change the back-up battery after about a year of operation. We've accidentally unplugged it 4 or 5 times in the past year and it kept the time perfectly and the alarm worked. But when it was acting wierd tonight, I checked the 2032 battery and it was below 3 volts. I changed battery and it's back to it's good old self.
I give it a "3 star" due to
1) the use a power transformer instead of being "Hard wired" like most clocks and
2) for the use of the "idiot symbols" instead of real words.
Other than tose two items, It's really a pretty nice clock.
