Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable Speaker

Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable SpeakerUPDATE: This review was based on my purchase price of $29. It's value decreased considerably if the price is much higher.

This has about the same footprint as my iPhone. It's about a fraction of it's weight. Build quality is excellent. The speaker contains a rechargeable battery and there is a clear indication of when it needs to be charged and when the charging has been completed. More on the charger and that "clear indication" in a bit.

Pairing with my iPhone was immediate right out of the box. I turned on the speaker, went to the bluetooth discover screen on my phone, it picked up the unpaired device, I entered the super-secret code number (0000), and it was done.

Sound quality is good (for this type of speaker). The sound is clear, there is very little (but at least some) bass, and it doesn't sound tinny. I bought it for playing background music on the deck and it's certainly clear enough and there's definitely enough volume for that.

The description implied and it should be clearly stated that in addition to working as a speaker this also works as a speaker phone and can also pass voice commands to the phone. In fact it works just like the Motorola S9 headset except that forward and reverse don't seem to work with my iPhone4 (and it's much more difficult to wear as a headset).

The AC charger is universal (at one end); it accepts 100-240V at 50/60 Hz.

Now for the minor issues:

There's a very bright and annoying light that insists on flashing when music is playing. According to the (well written) manual it means there's either a call or music on standby. Near as I can tell there isn't. This can be easily "fixed" with electrical or duct tape. :)

If you want to charge the speaker from your laptop or USB charger you need to supply your own mini-USB (laptop/charger end) to micro-USB (speaker end) cable.

Minor annoyances aside, this speaker is a good value. You can share music from your mobile device at good volume and reasonable fidelity while keeping said mobile device on your person. I haven't tried the wired connection and frankly if I was looking for that kind of speaker I'm sure there are plenty available that would cost less while providing the same sound quality.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews can take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and if there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

After purchasing a more expensive product from Best Buy and having to return it because it did not work, I found this on line at another web site. I was very tempted to buy it, but checked out Amazon's price and the SAME PRODUCT was $60.00 less on Amazon. That sealed the deal. It works great with the Droid (on which we have stored lectures and music). Great sound and since it's used only in the car, it does not matter how far apart the speakers can be from the phone. Wish it had come with a way to attach to the visor, but otherwise it's perfect! (Especially because of the price!)

Buy Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable Speaker Now

This has to be one of the best impulse buys that I have made.

I was looking for a Bluetooth stereo headset to go jogging with at the time, and saw this and thought that might be neat.

The one thing that surprised me was how small it was, its around the size of a modern touch screen smart phone, although about twice as thick.

The sound quality is around what you would expect from something this size, it will not set the world on fire, but it is far superior to the phone and the PC that I normally have it connected to. Setup was easy and the unit connects to the smartphone within seconds of turning on.

As well as the phone I have it paired with my laptop, so I don't leave the sounds in the living room when I nip upstairs. If your considering buying separate speakers for your laptop, this is something to consider as well as wired speakers.

The only downside is occasionally around the house the connection drops, but it reconnects as soon as the signal is good enough.

A few quick points:

Better speakers than most smart phones, without additional wires.

Adds portability to your music from your laptop, without carting the laptop around, or leave the phone on charge whilst you walk round the house.

Controls on the unit, to pause, skip both forward and backwards, volume controls (these control the volume on the EQ5 not the unit its connected to).

Control to make/receive calls (becomes a speaker phone), if you don't want speaker, flick the switch and the call drops to your handset.

Can use as a speaker phone with Skype.

Maintains the connection, with a few dropouts round a three bedroom home.

I would say that these complement a smart phone & laptop extremely well, and the price is around the same as a reasonable set of PC speakers.

I have had the EQ5 for a little over a month.

I use this mostly with my Android Nexus One phone.

Pros: Compact, rechargeable battery, easy to

setup and use, performs well. I have also

paired it with my Dell D420 laptop. (It took some

effort to get A2DP working in Windows-7). Very

reasonable price.

Cons: The only con is the lack of base. (Although it

does a great job considering it's size).

I gave it 5 stars because it does a great job for

my needs, for a speaker system to play NPR and other

streaming audio, from my phone and my laptop, when

I travel. I almost never use it at home.

I bought this little gem to listen to my iPhone/iPod in the car. Traffic noise makes the iPhone/iPod speakers hard to hear. I tried those FM transmitter gadgets that play through the car's FM radio, but they don't work so well in large cities where every clear FM channel is taken. This EQ5 speaker solved the problem. It is small, the same size as my iPhone, so it fits in my pocket or any place in the car dashboard, right front seat, or any other place I want to put it. The sound is clear and as loud as you want to make it. I'm not big on music, but I listened to a few songs and they seemed just as good as any FM radio. I also use it when watching Netflix movies on my iPhone or iPad to boost the sound. This is quite a nice little gadget.

Retractable Car Charger for HTC HD2 (Includes OrionGadgets Cleaning Cloth)

Retractable Car Charger for HTC HD2I've found cell phone accessories to be extremely hit-or-miss when it comes to quality. I figured this charger was worth a shot since it was only a few bucks. I'm actually pleasantly surprised at it's quality. It's not as nice as those sold directly from a cell phone carrier, but at less than 10% of the cost, I can afford for it to not last quite as long. The retractable mechanism works well enough--time will tell if it stays reliable, but after a month or so of steady use it's still functional. The overall quality of the charger is average. The plastic it's made from feels a bit cheap, but then you do get what you pay for. In this case, the charger is so inexpensive it's not that big a deal to me if doesn't become a family heirloom.

I bought cheap car charger from another shop a while ago for my htc hd2 and it didn't work at all but this one is working very very good and design is just one word PERFECT! I recommend this to all htc hd2 users.

Purchased a second retractable Car Charger for my HTC HD2.

The first retractable that was misplaced worked without

an issue so I decided to repurchase. You have to realize

that this item if purchased from HTC would cost over $30.

So at $2.00 you can expect the life of the item to

be minimum. The retractable idea is wonderful but

has always retracted if slightly touched. Not that much

room around adapter in any vehicle.

This second retractable stopped working on the third week

of use. So it isn't even worth the shipping and handling

to return the item. But if you are able to get one that

works you will enjoy the purchase. It is a hit and miss.

Anyone expecting to miracles from a $2.00 purchase has

issues.

Cellular Innovations Tune Free FM Transmitter for MP3 Players

Cellular Innovations Tune Free FM Transmitter for MP3 Players
  • Works with all ipods , plays music from any portable fm-equipped audio device, wirelessly transmits audio on fm frequencies,
  • Tune-free transmitter plugs into audio device, set the transmitter & a stereo to the same fm frequency
  • 9.84-FT Operating range, up to 15 hours of operating time, standby time: 45 days, requires 2 aa batteries, 1-year war

I plugged this into my laptop in my home so that I could hear my MP3s or an audiobook on A) the kitchen radio and B) my cheapo shower CD player radio. It works GREAT! I don't even have the volume cranked up much on my laptop not even 20% of 100% volume. Maybe around 15% or so. I think if you put the volume up too high on your device that it is transmitting from, then you will get more distortion at the receiving radio. Also, the instructions say, "Note: for best results, select a frequency that has the weakest or no signal from a radio station." I chose the last / highest one 107.9. Works like a charm!!! Yeah, it stinks that it uses 2 x AAA batteries instead of an AC adapter, but for just $16.00 and change, it is more than worth the purchase. Plus, rechargeable AAA's go for only $9 $10 for a 4-pack, so it's not like it's going to break anyone's bank.

Also, to transmit to my bathroom's shower radio, if I drew an imaginary line through the 3 walls, I would say it is about 17-20 feet away. To get to the kitchen, that is also going through at least 3 walls, and I'd say it's closer to 20-25 feet away. Pretty sweet! :)

One final note when I first plugged it into my laptop, I had it actually sitting ON my laptop just to see what would happen. I got a lot of static / loud hum from my kitchen radio. But the instant I took it OFF my laptop and set it a whopping TWO INCHES away, it worked perfectly. Just a hint for non-tech people who don't understand interference. Both my laptop screen AND my 26" widescreen external monitor were on, but some people with older monitors might want to turn theirs off to keep any possible hum and/or interference down.

Buy Cellular Innovations Tune Free FM Transmitter for MP3 Players Now

I've had a car with a broken tape deck and sporadic power supply to the lighter outlet, so I have always needed a battery-powered FM transmitter for listening to my iPod in my car. This one is the cheapest one I've ever had and so far the best. The signal is strong. I recently drove from Minneapolis to Detroit and back and only had to mess around with changing the stations once each way--waaaaay better than any of my other transmitters (the Griffin iTrip was the worst). The sound quality is adequate, but not perfect. As other reviewers have said bass can get distorted. I remedy that by turning the volume on my iPod down and turning up the volume on my car stereo. Every once in a while there is extra static, but it's almost exclusively when there is someone in my passenger seat. It may just be a combo of my car's FM receiver and the TuneFree transmitter, but it's not a huge deal. Battery lasts much longer than I expect it to. The only other drawback is that the blue light is super bright. It's a good way to gauge how low the battery power is getting though--if it doesn't hurt to stare directly into the blue light, you should keep some spare batteries around. I give this 5 stars because it works better than most more expensive devices and the slight drawbacks are not that much of a problem, especially when considering the face that this is under $20. I will also add that the device feels very cheap and flimsy, but I have had mine floating around in my purse for over a year and it's still working as well as it did when I got it.

I replaced a $8 piece of junk(bought only a week ago) with this and I made a awesome choice... Connected this to my computer and I am rocking crystal clear songs from my stereo system. It transmits clear waves, static-free tunes. This is definitely a 5-star product and worth the money. This product comes with a 1-year warranty also. As mentioned by others, it has a very bright blue light and I am thinking this sucks most of your battery. I have not tested the battery life as yet. But if you have rechargeable AAA batteries, don't even think twice to buy this product. You will love the clarity this showers you with. The only short fall is, it comes with a short cord and not with a coiled cord. But if you are not bothered about having short cord, this product is awesome in all ways. Just follow the instructions on the small user guide this comes with. Don't worry, instructions are also crystal clear and you will figure it out.

UPDATE after more than 1 year (on 31-July-2010):

Still fully functional and really nice. No regrets on this. Battery life has been staying for over 10 hours easily.

This is a very good FM transmitter. I always use to have static interference with my old plug-in transmitter. This one has not had any static problems and works flawlessly. You can take it anywhere and make use of its very good range. One time I used it to make my own radio station that my roommates could listen to on their radios.

Cons:

It needs battery replacements every 15-20 hours. (last me 3 weeks at the rate that I used it.)

Blue LED in the front is WAY too bright.

Save 71% Off

I was hesitant to buy it, but I'm pleasently surprised !

Pros:

Transmitted Music from my laptop to my home theatre system, which is about 5 meters away. When I hit pause on my music, I hear absolute silence .. it's amazing ! No hiss.

Great transmitter basically, I'm keeping it although it has it's draw backs.

Cons:

Packaging feels kind of cheap.

No digital controls or display, frequency is selected using a a set of switches according to the combination.

No fancy electronics in there to condition the audio input. You have to pick a good volume for the audio you send to it: if it's too loud, it will saturate and beats start to sound bad, and if it's too low you will have to turn your radio receiver up, and you start to pick up hiss from FM.

I still love it.

Purchased the item. Great service from Amazon and it arrived quickly. Product is absolute junk and a waist of money as it will not record with consistency. Perhaps I got a lemon. It will only record between 11 17 seconds, and then stops recording....totally frustrating!!!!!

The advertisement was to good to be true, so don't be fooled by the items advertisement as it does not work. Directions are complete crap and very vague! Went to review the 11 17 second clips that it did record, but could only see 5 seconds of the recording before getting an error message. Used and 8 gig mini HCSD, so size should not be the issue. Very disappointed with the product.

I bought one last week. It arrived very quickly. I tested it immediately after I got it. The manual is very simple. So it took me a while to figure out how to use it. The main problem for this product is that the quality of the acquired image is very very poor. The image is totally blurred, no matter whether the objects are far or close. After I played it for half an hour, I decided to return it.

I am very please with this item. I would not recommend for night use due to the fact that the LED light are very bright and would be an distraction to un-coming traffic.

I concur with the previous review that camera will stop recording in 15 seconds to 4 minutes depending on Loop setting if the camera sees no motion (this is a separate issue from Motion Detection setting). I spent many hours of trial and error to get around this bug and could not do it. No documentation on Motion Detection and Gsensor setup options. Another example was Loop recording options were 1,2,3 minutes not 5,10,15 minutes as stated in the poorly written manual. I had version 1.00 of the firmware (2012/11/13). Camera has potential; the image quality was good for a $55 camera at all the selectable resolutions. I bet version 2.00 will work. Returned it.

Schumacher PST-100 DSR ProSeries Speed Test Battery Analyzer

Schumacher PST-100 DSR ProSeries Speed Test Battery AnalyzerThis little tester is easy to use and provides a digital display that shows the most important aspect of any battery Cold Cranking Amps! Just connect to the battery terminals, and enter the battery's factory rating. Start the test, and the display shows the actual CCA along with a recommendation.

The battery clamps make great contact on top-terminal batteries, but it's tough to get a solid bite with them on side terminals, such as those used by GM. Also, the cables are a bit short. Not a big deal, but I felt compelled to deduct one star for these minor annoyances.

Schumacher is a solid company that has been around for decades, and their products hold up well. I'm still using the same Schumacher battery charger that I bought 30 years ago.

Cheers

I love it. This is a creative solution for a an old dirty problem. Old equipment use plain high power resistors to measure CCA. It use to depend on difficult to achieve good contact, high current and associated problems. This as other similar products use a clean low power solution to solve the same problem. There must be a lot of software embedded in this product. Congratulation to the designer.

Super Universal Battery Charger for AA / AAA NImh Nicd Batteries + 4 Batteries by ATC

Super Universal Battery Charger for AA / AAA NImh Nicd Batteries + 4 Batteries by ATC
  • Works with all nicd and nimh "AA" and "AAA" rechargeable batteries; charges AA and AAA rechargeable batteries simultaneously
  • Charges batteries at a safe, steady rate which improves the long-term health of the NiMH battery
  • Overheat detection to protect over-charging
  • Battery full rate: 80% frequency
  • Comes with 4 pack Hitech AA Ni-Mh 2600mAh rechargeable batteries

This small charger can be tucked into the flap of your camera or recorder case. It occupies less space than a pack of cigarettes. There are only two negatives, which are not really negative once you understand how the device works. Two batteries must be in the left or right pair of holders to charge. Also, there is a switch inside which MUST be in the 110v position to charge right. Mine came in the 220v, and I can see how someone might just use it and think it's broke. If you're in the U.S., and it's set to 220, it will not charge the batteries correctly making you think it's not working right. OK, now that we have that said, I had no problem with the device. I purchased it for my minidisc recorders, and it charged up all four AA batteries in about 25 minutes to full level. The bonus to this charger is there is no wall-wart or long cords to tangle in your case. Just slip batteries in, and plug the charger into the wall. That it!

Cobra MicroTalk FRS220 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Charcoal)

  • Up to 2-mile range and access to all 14 FRS channels
  • 500 milliwatts of output power, maximum allowed by law
  • Audible incoming-call alert
  • External slide switch lets you change between 2 FRS channels
  • Backlit LCD display for nighttime use

I just bought this radio not to long ago... I am VERY happy with it! It has features that the more expensive Motorola TalkAbout FR60 does not have, such as a lock (so if you have it in your pocket and a button is pressed mistakenly, nothing will happen!),LCD backlit display,a bendable antenna, and belt clips (you would have to pay EVEN MORE for this on the FR60)! It has excellent clarity, easy to use buttons, a Call button, 14 channels, 38 subcodes (so other people cannot annoy your conversation!), and much more! The only thing I would like on this Cobra is that it would have better clarity with people in a longer distance (about a mile and a half, you cannot hear at all, depending on the surroundins). I definitely reccomend this Cobra radio! If you are about to buy the Motorola FR60, drop your credit card and turn to the Cobra FRS 220 2-way radio!

Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron Extreme-Rate Battery SHO-BMS01

Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron Extreme-Rate Battery SHO-BMS01This definitely isn't a Battery Tender in terms of build quality. It looks more like an indoor lab instrument than something you'll want to keep in a damp garage. The connectors are definitely not ruggedized, so after you connect the short one to the Shorai battery's special plug, you end up with a very raw-looking electronic connector end hanging out of the bike that you use to connect the opposite end from the charger. It's not like the typical SAE type connector used for a Battery Tender type charger.

So for dual-sport bikes, you'll end up with a connector on the bike that will get wet and muddy really quick. Best figure out somewhere to hide it or a way to wrap it in plastic or something for protection.

Also, the connector that goes to the battery is pretty short and it plugs into the charger. So you can't really set the charger on the floor and connect it to the short connector attached to the battery in the bike. You have to put a chair or box next to the bike to hold the charger.

Bottom line is that Shorai needs to look at the common Battery Tender to get a better idea of how a garage-ruggedized charging system should be built. Not that Battery Tender is the dog's bollocks, just that the Shorai system seems a bit fragile for motorcycles and garage use.

Otherwise, it charges and maintains the Shorai battery ok. It's a bit confusing; when you turn on the charger, you can choose maintenance or charge and you press the buttons but aren't really sure about what's happening.

It's also pretty expensive for what it is and I'm not really sure it's needed because the Li-Fe battery seems to last forever and reads full voltage all the time, no matter how long the bike sits -which is the advantage of buying a Li-Fe battery in the first place. So if your bike's charging system works correctly, you probably will not need a Shorai charger for your Shorai Li-Fe battery -save your money.

I bought this to go with the Shorai battery to discover that a normal tender will do the job... Cables are rerally short meaning the maintener has to hand on the side of the bike... expensive too!

I already own Li-on/Li-Po chargers for my RC stuff, but I got this because it's plug and play and if you've already invested the over $100 in the Shorai or a similar A123 type battery, you might as well take care of it properly. I live in the Northeast, so it's necessary to keep it topped of for the winter. I have heated gear so I ride when most people don't.

This is a nice item to have since it balances the charge to each cell, something other smart chargers don't do. Only 2 drawbacks are:

1. Charger plug into battery is a bit flimsy and requires some protection to prevent breakage or bending the contacts.

2. Cable to from battery to the power supply is too WAY short for many applications, such as placing the power supply on your work bench while charging the battery on your bike.

If a cable extension was available, that would solve the problem, but there does not seem to be such an item.

The day time recording is very good but night time recording is not good. The image does not rotate with camera so if you mount it atop your dashboard like I did with the screen on the top everything records upside down so when you put it on your computer you will have to use a video editing software to rotate the video right side up. I did not use the supplied windshield mount because I did not want to create a blind spot in my windshield.

This was a disappointment. Upon arrival I immediately noticed the LCD was cracked. While it was still view-able I wanted to see if it lived up to other expectations. It didn't. By now everyone should know the manual is a joke. Hardest part of the setup was learning that the "OK" button is actually the red record button. After that it was easy to set up all remaining options. Two big disappointments on the unit was that, when recording, the red record button is blinking red. While some may find it comforting to know it is actually recording, I want this to be invisible to me and my passengers until its needed. Second is the video quality. Perhaps this unit was bad due to the LCD damage but it was horribly out of focus. And it is most certainly not HD even if it was. I set the resolution to 720 and the picture was grainy. Amazon is awesome as well on the return.

I had purchased one of these cameras before for one of my cameras. It worked so well that I ordered another for the wifes car.

The instructions are confusing, but with a little experimenting you can set it up. True you cannot see things real plain, but for what you are paying for this camera it does the job. The nite vision is almost useless.

This dashboard camera works, but... not without issues. The user manual is very poor and I have not been able to get the camera to loop, write over past recordings. It says it reports the memory full with just 10 minutes of recording on a 2 gb card. This would work if it would loop and overwrite. I would tell you to look for a better unit. I will.

iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Car Charger 12V DC - Banana Shape

iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Car Charger 12V DC - Banana ShapeI bought this car charger because, like everyone else, I thought that a car charger was just a car charger straight across the board. Well, I was wrong. This car charger worked like a charm for the first 2 months and then one day just STOPPED WORKING! I bought it for a few pennies, so I shouldn't have expected it to work for as long as it did, but I figured it wouldn't be so poorly made.

All in all, if you're looking for a quick fix for cheap without durability, get this and the dozens other on Amazon like it. If you want something durable and dependable that's going to last a long time, go to the Apple store and buy something a little more expensive.

This product will not charge my iPhone as advertised. Don't waste your time and money even if it is inexpensive.

The charger is loose within the charging socket in my car and easily falls out. Additionally, it does not work with my case (an Otterbox). Still, it's just a few dollars, so I guess you get what you pay for.

HQRP Pair MC3 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M (1F2M & 1M2F) for PV / Photovoltaic Syst

HQRP Pair MC3 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M for PV / Photovoltaic System plus HQRP CoasterThese plugs are made with a good quality plastic casing and aluminum contacts. Seams to be constructed pretty good. Great for wiring up solar modules in parallel. Casing snaps together and hold pretty good. A little difficult to get apart but after you get your wire in there it's there. Won't pull apart very easily.

I have a small installation at a home in Mexico, just 2 panels. I hated to twist the cables together so I bought a few of these. They fit very tightly, so snug that I could barely disconnect without a few hard full force tugs and wiggles, so no water is going to be getting inside there.

I installed a pair of solar panels on my roof that came with the "old style" MC3 connectors. I configure my panels as 12 VDC sources, so I needed to connect these panels in parallel. Using these HQRP T-branch connectors, I was able to do this and consequently use just one line pair from these two panels on my roof to the solar charge controller. These are high quality connectors and work well.

What more can I say? It does the job well. It allowed me to run my unisolar panels in 12v quite easily.

I actually bought these connectors to replace another set that allowed water into the connections and an ill fit on one of lines that those connectors went to. Unfortunately the same problem existed with the new connectors. My conclusion was the problem with the ill fit was due to a problem with connector ends on the existing lines. I also determined that the solution to the water could only be fixed by adding an insulating gel to the connection ends.

This product in general worked well and was of high quality, but you should consider an insulating gel to assist with water intrusion. I used one designed to work with spark plug wires on automotive engines.

A-SONIC Mini USB Car Charger Vehicle Power Adapter - White for Apple iPhone 4 4G 4S 16GB / 32GB 4th

A-SONIC Mini USB Car Charger Vehicle Power Adapter - White for Apple iPhone 4 4G 4S 16GB / 32GB 4th GenerationI tested this with a phone doing GPS navigation, something that really ran the battery down with another 12V adapter/charger attached Using this adapter, the phone charged, albeit slowly, with navigation on.

The picture showed a 700 mA output, but the unit I received was rated at 1.0 A (1000mA). I purchased an extra microUSB cable so that I could insert an ammeter and test the current. It output 490 mA, the same as the AC charger that came with the phone, and very close to the USB standard. The adapter used 5.6 mA from the 12V source with no load.

This is a $4 replacement for a $29.99 iPhone charger, and bluetooth headset charger, and GPS charger. Just use your own cables. The landfills will be less full because of it. I saved $90.00! This product rocks! I bought 1 for each car!

This item seems too good to be true. How can it cost so much less than the competitors yet still provide reliable mobile power to your iPhone?

No frills is the answer. Yes, the product isn't made of grade AAA plastic but does that really matter? It is so small it remains almost completely hidden in your car power plug.

Simply put, you cannot find a charger at a better price. You can pay 10x more for the same functionality and shinier plastic, but this works just as well.

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable Generator

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable GeneratorI purchased one of these about five months ago from a popular online seller for $199.99 with free S&H. If you already own, or you are considering buying this gen set, you should read this. If you have experienced some of the same problems, maybe this info will be helpful. I am a retired Plant Engineer from a major world class manufacturer in the US and have 40+ years of experience with machinery and equipment so I know a lot about equipment manufacturing and repair. I really like the concept and idea of this gen set because its small, light, and it really does run about 9 hours (50% load) on a tank (1.3 gal.) of fuel but it does have its problems. I can sum up the problems I've had in two words, Quality Control! I can't speak for all the units out there, only mine. From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are several generations of this generator manufactured to date. I believe mine is somewhere in the middle with a manufacture date of Oct. 2007, so some, or all, of these issues may have been addressed with the newer ones. I will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I experienced it. I have two other generators that I use for emergency power but I needed something small, light, and more fuel efficient to use at the fish camp and hunting lease. I needed only about 1100 watts for lights, and to keep the RV batteries charged, so this one seemed the perfect match. Most people buy the largest generator they can get not realizing that they have to move, store, and feed the hungry beast. When I purchased this one, gas was over $4.00 a gallon so it was senseless to use a larger one for my needs and waste precious fuel. When I took it out of the box I liked what I saw. I filled it with oil and gas and started it as per the manual. I was disappointed that it took 7 or 8 healthy pulls to finally start it. Even though it was new it should start easier and quicker when you use the choke. After letting it run for 5 minutes or so I put it under a 1000 watt resistive load. It worked fine but I noticed a substantial amount of oil under the engine. Very disappointed, I shut it down and checked for any loose nuts, screws, oil plug, etc., but could not determine from where the oil was leaking. It continued to leak even though it wasn't running so I knew it was a below oil level leak. I drained the oil/gas and called the seller expecting to exchange it. Of course they recommended that I follow the manual and call the mfg. which I had already done. On the third day of calling the seller and demanding to talk to a supervisor, and demanding an exchange for one that functioned properly without leaking oil, he finally told me they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be restocked and offered a refund of the full purchase price. I took his offer and ask him how he wanted me to handle the return S&H. His reply surprised me. They didn't want it back and he asked me if I would dispose of it. Sure I would! I think he had an idea what the problem was and it wasn't worth it for them to pay return S&H, repair cost, and then having to sell it as refurbished for a reduced price. I was sure that with a little time I could determine the cause of the leak and possibly fix the problem. I was unable to see from where the oil was leaking without removing the generator from the frame so that's what I did. It appeared that the oil was coming from under the front motor mount so I removed both motor mounts. I still couldn't tell exactly where the oil was coming from. I cleaned the bottom of the motor and then filled it with transmission fluid (do not run it like this) knowing the red color would be easier to detect. It worked! The oil was coming from a "casted in hole" that could be used for an oil drain in other applications. Manufacturers generally do this a lot so they can use their product for different applications and mounting configurations. They just don't drill the unused casted hole all the way through. The problem was that in the bottom of the hole the aluminum was so thin that there was porosity in the aluminum casting. The oil was leaking right through the casting bottom even though no flaw was visible. An easy fix for anyone who knows their way around tools and procedures. I had to find the proper size tap and put threads in the casted hole as the mfg. would have done for a bottom oil drain. You must use a flush mount plug for this because the front motor mount fits against the bottom of the motor casting. I also used sealant because I knew I would never need to remove it. I filled it with oil and major problem solved! Now for the hard starting issue. You must be really careful with this one because the recoil starter cage is plastic. I really wish they would have spent a few more cents and made it of metal. The manual will tell you not to pull the starter rope all the way out. This is because you will pull the plastic recoil starter housing right off the motor. If you are a big person with long arms this will be a challenge. I've read many complaints where this has happened. There is a seller on ebay that has sold many of these for parts/repair, and all are missing the recoil starter. No doubt broken by over pulling the starter rope. Remember, it takes several quick, healthy pulls to start this thing. It feels to me like the compression should be a little higher so I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance. It was correct but I was surprised at how weak the valve springs are and I suspect the valves are not seating 100% on this one. This would account for being hard to start and lack of power which I will address later. I removed the spark plug and checked the gap. Too close! Only .020" which would result in a reduced spark. Should be around 0.030". I gapped the plug and tried it again. Not much improvement but I really didn't like the cheap plug that came with it so I went to the auto parts store and purchased a quality branded plug. This helped greatly! It starts with about half the pulls as before. Although it still doesn't start as easily as it should, this was a big improvement. Now for the load test. The mfg. description claims 1500 watts running load but that is a stretch for this one. No load voltage is 109 volts = OK. With 500 watts resistive load, it went to about 120 volts = very good. With 1000 watts resistive load, it was about 117 volts = perfect! When I added another 500 watts for a total of 1500 watts the engine strained just to keep running and the voltage dropped to 98 99 volts = too low. I reduced the resistive load to 1350 watts and the voltage came back up to about 109 volts = OK. It's only fair to say that other units that are running properly just might run at the claimed 1500 watts. As I stated above, I suspect the valves may not be seating 100% on this one which would account for the strain the little engine was in at 1500 watts. Anyway, this is all that I need so it works for me. Don't bother with the 92+ octane gas as the manual recommends. I tested 87 octane gas and 93 octane gas and could tell no difference, with or without a load, in the performance or voltage. At about 100 hours the sheet metal shield on the muffler fell off leaving three ¼" holes in the muffler where the shield was spot welded to the muffler. Not a big problem but a little more noise. For me the shield is not necessary anyway. The muffler is tucked well inside the frame and you would really have to be trying to get burned by it. If the additional noise bothers you just do what I did. Go back to the auto parts store and buy some muffler patch putty. Just smear it over the small holes and let it cure as per instructions. It can be sanded and painted with high temp. paint after it cures if you want. After about four months the fuel line developed a crack and started leaking. I replaced it with quality 3/16" fuel line and added an in-line filter. I switched to full synthetic oil after about 30 hours of operation so the engine should last a long time. One other note; once I put it under a 1000+ watt load the engine started working harder and developed more vibration. If the generator is setting on a smooth surface, it will start walking away caused by the added vibration. The cheap, clip-on vibration pads just don't work. Cut a piece of old carpet padding (18" X 18") and set the generator on it. I've put about 200 hours on this little unit and it still runs fine. All in all, after about $25.00 for parts/supplies, and eight hours of troubleshooting and labor, I have exactly what I want and I'm happy with it now. I believe it will now run reliably for many years of moderate use. I'm sorry this is a bit long but I hope this has helped someone.

Having bought 3 generators I must remark that the original

model was modified to include additional features and a slightly

more powerful engine. The Only problem I had with the 1st model was that it would shut off at times (on 2 different units) when there was no load. This did not occur in the improved model and in addition the newer model is equipped with a low oil level shut off sensor,2 oil ports,a built in fuel gauge and a better frame/vibration mount design. Also the improved model has different style controls and power sockets. The only problem I observed with the improved model is that the battery charging cable gauge is cheaper in quality and gauge. The new improved model seems to run slightly more quietly. All in All I am pleased with the performance although the peak wattage is less than desirable for heavy starup applications..

I purchased this generator and was very disappointed. The housing surrounding the pull cord is made of extremely cheap plastic that will break after a few pulls, and cause the cord to tangle. It is nothing but a headache. The motor mount where the engine attaches to the cage is also made of low quality steel that will also break on you. In general it is crap. Pay a little bit more and buy one that will not provide frustration.

I had some reservations about purchasing this item after reading some of the negative reviews but the very competive price convinced me to give it a try. When it arrived I tightened all the bolts first, however none of them seemed too loose. After filling it was fuel, I attempted to start it. After about 30 pulls on the starter I removed the spark plug to see if the fuel was gettint that far, which it was. I replaced the plug and after about another 5 pulls it started. It seemed to take forever to warm up and I had to gradually make choke adjustments to keep it running until it finally ran without the choke assist. I tested it on my RV and it ran everything I needed while charging the battery. It did not run the A/C but that is not a problem for me. Since the initial start up difficulties it has started everytime for me with one or two pulls, and I have not needed to make the choke adjustments as I did the first time. I have also used it for several power tools and it worked great. I do not know how it will work over several years but I am very satisfied with my initial experience.

I have had an oil leak ever since the first day of operation of this generator. The engine leaks oil from the hole that was drilled in the crankcase wall for the low oil sensor's wire. I took mine apart and used some RTV silicone to seal it up, no more oil leak. The manufacturer used a cheap rubber washer/grommet attached to a nut and bolt compression mechanism to seal it off, but it failed miserably shortly after I tried tightening the nut. The crankcase/engine block should have been sealed up more professionally at the factory in China, but oh well, I guess that would take all the fun out of disassembling the engine here at home in the USA where we know a well built engine when we see one running. I'll guarantee you that if these engines were assembled by American workers, there would be no oil leaks. Maybe if the Chinese workers didn't have guns pointed at their heads by communists, you might actually see engines that don't leak oil. God bless em'! A great and reliable engine after its been patched up with some RTV. You might also have to adjust the idler screw to get a good baseline voltage. I also recommend that you filter the power from this generator with an Uninterrupted Power Supply system from APC, which will keep power moving smoothly and safely to all your connected appliances (this helps protect sensitive electronics like computers that may be connected to the generator).

This generator comes with a high quality Chinese spark plug (made by SINO Spark Plugs), I found a cross reference after a bit of work, The E6TC Plug is equivalent to a Champion L87YC (These plugs are not very common, so you'll have to get them from an auto parts store or buy them online. The cost of these plugs are around the same as the more common plugs(around $2 each). I'm using Autolite Plug #4123). Enjoy.

Bon-Aire i8000 Goodyear 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire Inflator

Bon-Aire i8000 Goodyear 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire InflatorWhy I like this tire inflator:

1. It plugs into any 120 volt outlet. I have 12 volt inflators and they have their place, but cannot compare to this unit.

2. It's fast. I just inflated a wheelbarrow tire from 5 psi to 30 psi in about 45 seconds.

3. The pressure gauge is accurate. One of my 12 volt inflators is off by 10 psi (under).

4. The screw-on valve is not as bad as you would think. It will only bleed one or two psi off a normal tire while its removed.

5. The screw-on valve is far superior to the clamp-on type. I feel that more air is lost when unclamping. Also, the wheelbarrow valve stem was too short for a clamp-on.

6. It comes with numerous inflation adapters.

What I don't like:

1. I would prefer a ball-type valve rather than the screw-on.

2. It seems to struggle as it approaches 30 psi. I worry that it won't be able to handle the 70 psi required for my bicycle tires. Nowhere in the operator's manual or on the box does it give the maximum pressure rating. The pressure gauge goes up to 150 psi, but that's meaningless.

Overall I'm very pleased. It should do just fine with normal tire pressures up to 38 psi.

My old model Bon-Aire BA121L 120v gave up on me after only 2 seasons of light use so it was time to invest in another air inflator. I wanted one that was 120v as I was not comfortable with the pumps that run off your car charger. I've only used this a couple of times, but I can see that this is a much more solid inflator than my previous one.

When you turn it on it sounds solid, there are no moving parts so this should last longer than your conventional inflators, it's much quieter than my old pump and it pumps quicker too.

The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not five was because it uses a screw on valve to pump tires on my cars. I personally like the snap on type of valve because it's easier and quicker, but I do find that with screw on valves it loses less air from the tires when you unscrew it.

Buy Bon-Aire i8000 Goodyear 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire Inflator Now

This is a perfect air pump. It inflates tires quickly and relatively quietly. The gage is very accurate. I checked it against a couple of others that I own so will rely on it from now on. It seems to be well made with no defects noted. I am looking forward to many years of use. I have been disappointed with others especially the ones that rely on a battery or 12V cigarette connection. They often blow fuses and knock out other things in the car. Never again. I would say buy with confidence. It only works with american type tire valves. It has an adapter for euopean valve stems but would not work on my bike.

I had looked on line for the perfect inflator that could be plugged in to an outlet. I have one front tire on my lawn tractor that deflates between mowing. The first two times I used it I couldn't have been happier. The third time when I turned on the switch it didn't make a sound. I thought it might be the outlet but it wasn't so the unit I purchased worked only twice before breaking down.

Want Bon-Aire i8000 Goodyear 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire Inflator Discount?

I was hauling out my 45 pound air compressor to fill up the tires, and this makes it 1,000 times easier. It's a small unit, the size of a football, and it weighs probably only about 8 to 10 pounds. The blue cord stretches out surprisingly long, and the main adapter screws down tight over tire valves. You screw it on, flip the switch, and wait for the reading you want. Easy.

It does inflate a car tire rather slowly. To take a car tire from 26 psi to 35 psi took me about 45 seconds to a minute. That's not terrible, but it's noticeably slower than the pump at the gas station. Still, you can do the whole car, even with moving the unit, in under 6 or 7 minutes, and that's not bad at all. The gauge seems to be dead-on, and the unit feels heavy and well built. With gas at $4.10 a gallon it's very nice to make sure the tires are rock hard and giving you every last mile you can squeeze out.

I thought about getting one of those cigarette lighter jobs, but then I kept reading about blown fuses and so forth. I got this for the garage and stuck an old bike pump in the trunk. The bike pump is for roadside emergencies, and no blown fuses and some good exercise with that.
