Bell 22-1-39005-8 Triple Socket with Extension Cord

Bell 22-1-39005-8 Triple Socket with Extension CordThs is exactly what I needed. I have so many 12volt DC products I need connected at the same time and this definetly helps. I like thatI can mount it where I need to, and there is a good sized cord that comes with it. The built in LED "Power usage" indicator lights are nice, especially if you have your engine off and your woried about your batter. If it goes from green to orange, start your vehicle and you won't have to worry if your battery is going to die.

If you have a couple things you need to plug in at the same time in your car like me this thing is pretty sweet. I would have liked to see it with a little bit longer cord so it can be routed without seeing the wires, other wise it works good, I have it mounted with velcro to my dash so I can plug my radar detector my phone and my Xm at the same time.

Based on the reviews I had read, I bought this "3 cigarette lighter" outlet expander for myself.

I have to say this is one of the most practical purchases I've ever made.

It is great if you're traveling/road tripping and you and your passenger BOTH want to charge your phones simultaneously with different chargers. Or if you're both charging non-MP3 phones AND you want to use an mp3 player.

Or, in my case, if you want to charge both of your phones AND use your portable lava lamp, simultaneously. :-)

It also prevents the car's one and only 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter from getting in the way of tall travel coffee mugs in the cup holder just beneath.

This is a great value. I use it all the time now.

Bought these to use for our home delivered meals program one of our drivers kept smelling something burning looked down and the outlet was melting. He was afraid it was going to burn his car up. And there were only 2 things plugged into it. Would not recommend buying this item especially for long periods of use as our routes are only about 1-2 hours long and they were already melting.

GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge Controller

GudCraft CD7.0 12-Volt Wind And Solar Power Hybrid Charge ControllerWhen I ordered this hybrid controller I ordered it to furnish "automatic" charging for my homemade solar and wind power setup.

Well, when I opened the packaging, and took out the controller, it was much smaller than I had expected, and when I read the instructions for it, they made NO SENSE whatsoever!

I have had to do some guesswork to figure out what some of the symbols mean, and how you're supposed to connect your wiring to keep from destroying this controller.

This was bought as a 12 volt controller, but the so-called instructions said it was for 12 or 24 volt. However, where the battery output connectors are located, the instructions said one side was for 12 volt, and the other side was for 24 volt, and there are only two connectors! Come on! It is very obvious to anyone who knows about d.c. power that one connector HAS to be negative, and the other positive!

Whoever typed the instructions for this controller had absolutely NO idea what they were talking about!

About the only useful part of the instructions was where it actually told how many watts the controller was capable of handling from wind input and solar input. This information was NOT on this site for the device!

The maximum throughput this controller can handle for wind is 600 watts. 300 watts for solar power. Since I had ordered a 750 watt PM alternator for wind power, I had to order a rectifier to use for my wind generator. This controller cannot handle more than 600 watts for windthat is its' stated maximum.

If you intend to use this controller for "help" with your electricity production, it might work. However, if you need to use it "off the grid", I doubt this controller will meet your expectations. So just be careful is my suggestion.

They need to include a lot more information on this page about this controller than they have here.

I received this item without a manual. Repeated requests to Gudcraft to supply a digital manual met with no success. The product is therefore not documented which makes it useless. I own two other Gudcraft products their 400 watt turbine and the charge controller that comes with it. The documentation for those products is just plain horrible, so I shouldn't have been surprised that this item was going to be a disappointment. Not buying this brand again -finally learned my lesson.

Schumacher PSJ-3612 DSR ProSeries 3600 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power Unit

Schumacher PSJ-3612 DSR ProSeries 3600 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power UnitThis is a lifesaver. I used to have some piddly little jump starter, which would occasionally work, but often just fail.

This unit is different.

This just works. Always. It has a useful display, indicating volts and charge capacity, lets you jump a car many times before recharging, and will work for literally months between charges. I've jumped dozens of cars using this unit and never had a problem.

You're going to have to buy an extension cord to charge it from the wall. $2 at Home Depot. Two prongs, non-polarised.

If you have to buy a portable jump starter, whether to keep in your truck, the back of your car, or just your garage, think about whether you're willing to tolerate it failing right when you need it to work. Buy once, and buy right. You'll save money and grief if you just get the best up front.

I have used this product twice. Both times it performed flawlessly. I jump started a car with a only 4% power level and it started the car with no problem. Great product and I would recommend it to anyone

Buy Schumacher PSJ-3612 DSR ProSeries 3600 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power Unit Now

I received this item last week, plugged it in the AC for 36 hours per the "Warning Tag" attached to the handle (but contrary to the 8-hour recommended in the instruction pamphlet enclosed). I guess the reason they put it on a RED tag on the handle was probably due to the instructional pamphlet being in error, so that's what I saw first and complied with. I used it to start my 2004 Kia which had a battery completely run down to nothing, and it cranked it right over. I only used the car for a short trip to the store that day, however I had to use it again this morning again. Well, it had just sat in my back seat for the last few days, and I wondered if that single charge up would have been sufficient or whether I'd have to hook it back up to the AC again first. Nope! It cranked the car right over and it felt like there was plenty of reserve power left over to do it a few more times with no problem.

I'm very satisfied with this product, and would not hesitate recommending it without reservation to anyone who needs a life-saver for their car's battery. It sure beats calling a two company to jump-start me in the morning, or try to impose on a neighbor or stranger for assistance.

Bottom line, I don't just like it, I LOVE IT!! I also want to add that I am in no way affiliated with the manufacturer or seller, and this review comes unsolicited from a simple consumer like yourself.

MONEY WELL SPENT.

I left my car at my dad's for six months. The battery was a five year battery which was four years and eleven months old. When I went back the battery measured 0 volts. I had just received the Scvhumacher 3600, but had not unpacked it. I tried my 400 peak amp; 900 peak amp jump starter. No dice! I unpacked the Schumacher, plugged it in and let it charge overnight, although the digital readout showed 100% charge. Next morning, hooked it up, turned it on, let it sit for about five minutes. The car started immediately. I had to run on the alternator to the parts house for a new battery. I can't say enough good about this product.

Want Schumacher PSJ-3612 DSR ProSeries 3600 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power Unit Discount?

Over the years I have had several 12V jump starters. None of them seem to last too long. I think it's a combination of the heat in my truck and not charging the unit properly. I asked around to many tow truck drivers and owners. They all recommended The Schumacher Pro Series Line of jump starters.

This thing is a monster. It ways a ton (battery) and the charging is simple. The fan runs when plugged in and it's not quiet. I have used the unit several times on completley dead batteries and no problems at all.

I found that it is top heavy so it won't stay upright so I lay it on it's side. It is a sealed AGM so that is no problem.

I also use it as a 12v power source for my emergency radios. I think it would last for many days of transmitting at 5 watts.

I hope the heat will not shorten it's life. We will see.

I now have had this for almost a year and have used it several times on diesel engines that have two large batteries. Turns over with no problem. This charger was the best idea.

It is not cheap but it's worth it for sure.

When you charge the unit, charge for 24 hours.

I broke my old car charger by slamming it in the glove box door (not on purpose, by accident). At first I just tried to fix it by using electrical tape and so on, but nothing worked so finally I purchased this car charger and another one as well because you never know when you'll slam your glove box door on one of them and break it. I am totally happy with both of the chargers!

RCA RPD663 Mobile Sound System for iPad

RCA RPD663 Mobile Sound System for iPad
  • Dock for iPad - plays and charges your iPad
  • Ideal for home and mobile use
  • Wireless headphones included
  • Built-in stereo speakers - low-profile, full-range
  • Headrest mounting kit and DC power adapter - for mobile use

This RCA Mobile Sound System for iPad is really a clever device for use in the car or at home. It works with all three versions of the iPad. The kids can watch movies on your iPad on the long car trips without having to hold it (and potentially delete apps!) It also keeps the iPad charged so the battery won't be dead when you arrive at your destination. The wireless headphones sound great and make private listening in the car cord-free.

For use in the car, it has a very sturdy metal and plastic bracket that mounts to the headrest with velcro straps. The dock then clips in and out of the bracket very easily. The iPad can be slid into the dock either before or after it's attached to the headrest bracket. The 12V power cord plugs into the dock to provide power to the iPad and the built-in speakers on the dock. The wireless headphones run on batteries and automatically turn off when they don't detect any sound transmission for a period of time. Great feature!

When we're not using it in the car, we keep it on the kitchen counter as a charging station for the iPad. It has a little flip-out stand to hold it upright and it takes up very little counter space. The built in speakers also sound great for listening to music from the iPad, or even for watching Netflix while cooking or eating.

Highly recommended accessory for your iPad!

I like the flexibility and portablility of this product. Like that I can play it indoors on regular AC and in the car as a A/V player using the adaptor. The headphones are an added plus.

Car Charger (CLA) for Huawei Ascend

Car Charger for Huawei AscendI ordered this to help me charge my Huawei Ascend Android phone. It's a little more than a year old but still operates well and I frequently use google maps and navigation with it, but the battery life is terrible when you do anything like make calls, use the GPS or the 3G network for anything.

I needed a way to charge my phone on the job as a delivery driver so I could have unlimited use of the phone, and this charger worked perfectly for me. Red light on the unit indicates when it's got proper contact/connection with the vehicle's lighter adapter, and the phone always recognized that and charged while on the go. Saved me a lot of hassle and kept my phone going, when otherwise I'd have limited use during heavy days of needing lots of directions and making lots of calls to supervisors and customers and coworkers to coordinate daily plans and deal with problems.

If you need a cheap charger, this one works just fine. If there's any down-sides, haven't noticed them yet.

It works just as well as the one you would normally spend $20 for at the sales location. Why would anyone go any other route.

Wireless FM Transmitter + Car Charger for MP3 MP4 Player White

Wireless FM Transmitter + Car Charger for MP3 MP4 Player Whitethis is a ok transmitter, this is week but get the job done in a car. it is not good to use in a house because you well get stadick

What do you expect when you pay so little. I actually bought this product on ebay, but it's exactly the same.

Pros: It's small and portable. It can take batteries (AA).

Cons: It has poor broadcasting capabilities, it doesn't work well with phones (which is what I got it for), to even get it to work you have to hold it.

It didn't cost much so I can't really complain.

LG Solar-Powered Bluetooth Car Kit HFB-500

LG Solar-Powered Bluetooth Car Kit HFB-500
  • Lg Solar-powered Bluetooth Car Kit Hfb-500. Environmentally Friendly.
  • Solar-powered Bluetooth Car Kit Where 2 Hours Of Sunlight Equals 1 Hour Of Talk Time.
  • With Easy Pair, Redial, Call Reject, Echo Cancellation, And Multi Pair.
  • Compatible With Most Mobile Bluetooth Devices For Hands Free Calls
  • 1 Year Warranty From Lg Mobile

Excellent design. Easy to operate. Good call quality. Easy and reliable synching with two cellphones. Most functions controlled by a single large press switch (top 20% of device) whose function depends on call and power status, i.e. answer/end, redial, voice dial, manual sync, and audible power status with power-on and whether call is in-progress, and auto sync with power-off. Solar charging feature is outstanding, especially here in Florida. Device has remained fully charged without the need for the supplied car charging adapter. I previously owned the highly rated MOTOROKR T505 speakerphone which was a nuisance to use I threw it out. I purchased a second LG after two weeks of using the first unit.

This is not a bad product. It is very intuitive to use, in fact I didn't even have to look at the manual to set it up. If you live in a sunny state, then the possibility that you will have to use the car charge (cigarette) adapter to power up the headset is very low. Its main weakness is that the person on the other end of the line won't hear you very well, unless you scream your way through the conversation.

My office is my truck and my ability to conduct business on the phone is critical to my success. Also, much of my driving is on unpaved roads. I have never had to charge the devise outside of its solar charging feature. I have used this product for 3 months and have had no complaints from the other end of my phone calls. Even when I asked the person on the other end they said that they had no idea that I was using a speaker phone devise. I changed employers and now I'm buying another one. Good product.

Want LG Solar-Powered Bluetooth Car Kit HFB-500 Discount?

With bluetooth devices I tend to charge them once, then once the battery dies, never again. It just never makes it back inside the house. Recharging once a week or whatever seems obnoxious.

Enter the self-charging LG bluetooth. It's stupid easy to use (two buttons), syncs up quickly, and never, ever, ever needs to be charged (after the first time). I put it on the window of my car and it's stayed charged for several months of light to moderate usage. Fantastic!

Now for the bad news--the speaker is crap. I've given up using this on the freeway at speed. Granted I drive fast and have a noisyish sports car, but I still have to wait until I hit one of LA's inevitable traffic jams to really make any important calls. I would give it 5 stars if I could hear things clearly, but as it is this unit earns 3.5 stars. (Cue Ed McMahon)

A solar-powered hands-free bluetooth speaker/mic for your car would be resistant to sun and heat. It is not. This unit worked very well for me from January through June. It never needed a charge despite many cloudy days mounted on the inside of the windshield as directed by the manufacturer. But one hot day in July, while I was at work, the unit overheated, swelled up, warped and ruined the power and answer/call buttons. It is fused into a single mass and literally bursting at its plastic seams.

This is a device DESIGNED to be installed in a hot, sunny windshield, and it was destroyed the first time the temperature exceeded 90 degrees outside. The temperature inside the car may have been 120 I don't know but still, extremely disappointing. And it's not like I live in Texas or Arizona. This was a sunny day in Oregon. Insert your own clouds-and-rain joke here.

I give two stars because the concept is excellent and the initial quality was decent. But buy this only if you want to install it in your car and then take it out every day and carry it around with your phone or misplace it. Lame.

I really didn't want to buy another cell phone or get my charge port fixed. i need my cell! so i found this product on amazon and gave it a shot. Ok the good is that it charges your battery. The bad is that it takes 3 hours to charge, your battery has to be placed inside a device and then plugged into the wall or car charger. There is a red light indicator that turns blue when fully charged. This light turned blue after 1 hour on a dead cell. and when i put batt back in cell, batt was still a dead cell. So i changed where i plugged in device . I just plugged it in another socket in the house and that time it charged for the full 3 hours. This has happened time and time again but as long as when i change sockets and it charges then i would recommend this product to someone. Its a good product if you don't want to buy another cell or get it fixed and if you don't mind not being able to talk while cell batt is charging cause you have to take batt out in order to charge it.Also it has only two copper connecters that touches the copper connectors on batt. At 1st i thought hey wait this thing has only 2 copper connectors that touch batt, will it charge, YES. Ok you have to let left connector touch left connector on batt and right connector touch the right one on batt. the middle connector on batt doesn't have to have a copper connector touching it in order for to charge.

The port on my phone was messed up so I wasn't able to recharge my battery. I checked around for battery chargers and I was told there was no such thing for my phone, but they were wrong. This is Perfect for me. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to line up the two prongs to the battery, but wow it's so simple. They really thought of everything, with the attachments i'm able to recharge my battery in my car. I totally love this product, amazing price, I cannot say enough, this product literally saved me more than a hundred dollars. Thank you Gomadic!!

Clarion EZ58TMCPK Bluetooth Interface with NAVRDS

Clarion EZ58TMCPK Bluetooth Interface with NAVRDS

  • Built-in Bluetooth Hands-free (HFP) and Audio Streaming (A2DP & AVRCP) support
  • Play back MP3/WMA files and view JPEG/BMP images from SD/MMC cards up to 4GB
  • One-year limited warranty

I picked up one of these EZD580s about a week ago. In the box are the unit, car-mounting hardware, a USB-to-mini USB cable and some instructions sheets. I would think that it will be great and A-OK because it seems to work well. It came out of the box with the battery at 81% charged. But this is where I get stuck. It comes with a directions sheet for mounting the unit in your car, and a Quick Start guide for routing and street directions. But nothing in any of the included reference material tells one how long to charge, or recharge, the battery, or if there is an AC Charger available for this unit. I konw that the USB-to-mini USB cable is for charging the unit on your computer, but how long do you charge it? On the Clarion website, there is a "Product Manual" available for download. I downloaded and printed the "Product Manual" and guess what in the entire 71 pages, there is not one word regarding the charging and recharging of the battery, and also nothing about an AC Cahrger. The Product Manual does go into precise detail on how to select route guidance and street directions, the device's settings, etc. But nothing on step number 1 charging the battery! The battery charging issue aside, though, this is a real good unit. It has a big screen with easy to read text and numbers. You can use the included stylus or use your fingers to access the various menu items. When I initially turned it on, it took about a minute or two (which is normal for GPS devices) to locate the GPS signal. Once it locked in on the signal, it was easy rollin'. Entering your destinations, referencing the Points Of Interest, etc., are fairly intuitive, making this GPS unit fairly easy to use without getting an advanced scientific degree. On the negative side, support from Clarion is absolutely NON-EXISTANT. Calling the telephone numbers on the Clarion website results in a literal circle of recorded messages.

good piece. money was ok, harder to use compared to a garmin. and later on, it broke. it would freeze, then finally stopped turning on. when it did work, it was ok. i had this unit replaced once already from clarion itself. buy a garmin.

FYI, I operated this unit in Seattle, Washington and some in L.A.

Well I decided to be nice and give this unit a review of 2 Stars (I don't like it) when I was tempted to give it a 1 Star (I hate it) due to it's complete uselessness after about a month. After a while, this unit proved itself to be a lemon and completely worthless for getting anywhere (detailed explanation below). It worked fine for a month and I was excited that I had gotten a winning product.

Then the "out of memory" errors started. After about the first 2 maybe 3 of these errors, I thought it would just go away or just be a small nuisance. I was dead wrong.

OUT OF MEMORY

It got so bad in the weeks following that first month that it would freeze up and display critical "out of memory" errors every 30 seconds to 2 minutes while I was on a route. What's worse is it would slow WAY down before the error happened so I had to wait until the error happened before it would reboot itself so I could use the 20 or so seconds of directions before it slowed WAY down again until the imminent "out of memory" error reoccurred. Also, I needn't fail to mention that the reboot took a solid 2 minutes before I could get my directions back again.

FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITY DRAWBACKS

Besides the short battery life mentioned above and the maps being incomplete (both mentioned above in "Cons" section), another frustration with this unit is that it doesn't support SD cards larger than 4GB? Are you serious, Clarion? Did you design this unit to be used 9 years ago (when SD cards were invented, in 2001)?

What's worse about the memory situation is that, according to a rep at Clarion, the unit doesn't even store maps and other important and functional history on a SD card; it uses the memory that came with the unit which is 2GB. I have to visit clients all over the Seattle area and revisit them, so it would be nice to have a nice long history of all the places I've been without worrying about using up the 2GB.

Oh, by the way, before I even called Clarion I thoroughly went through every function and feature in the settings of the unit to figure out if the "out of memory" was warranted or maybe something I could adjust; and I tried resetting the device along with CLEARING THE MEMORY and of course nothing solved it.

So, buying a SD card (not much of an upgrade though being you can only add 4GB to 2GB) only makes it so you can put pictures and music on your GPS device. It would be much better to be able to use the SD card to store all the other critical mapping things since this is, after all, a GPS unit first and a multimedia player second.

CONCLUSION AND FURTHER NOTES ABOUT CLARION'S AFTER SALE SUPPORT

I didn't even delve into the super short battery life of 15-30 minutes (note also that this battery is only a few months old with minimal use) or talk much about the maps not having updated information. I will add, however, that it was on multiple occasions and not just an isolated experience or two that I got those messages about not finding an address or street (even though in most cases the streets and addresses had been in existence for more than 3 years). I even contacted TeleAtlas, the mapping software company who sold Clarion the software for this unit, and they will not produce updates for this unit. Everyone who buys this unit is apparently stuck with outdated maps indefinitely, and thus plumb out of luck.

Needless to say, I will be buying a unit with NAVTEQ mapping software (which provides free updates for life for many of the GPS units they are on) and will only recommend a unit with TeleAtlas maps if they ever decide to be more helpful to their paying customers.

So, I'm currently waiting through my second 2-week time-frame for my unit to be "fixed" by Clarion. The first time I sent it back I had high hopes that it would come back and work. Again, I was dead wrong. Not only did they not address the other issues I told them about; they didn't even fix the main "out of memory" issue that had rendered this unit usable. This 2nd time, I pleaded with the Clarion rep to replace this obvious lemon with a working unit and he insisted on doing it "by the book" and said that I would be getting the same unit back after they try to "fix" it again.

I can't risk going through yet another 2 weeks without the use of my GPS unit (since I use it everyday for my business), so I officially give up on Clarion and I'm getting a NAVTEQ unit, probably the Garmin Nuvi 265WT if it doesn't do the shutting down thing during inclement weather some people have had issues with. I can't in good conscience resell a lemon on eBay, so I'll probably just trash the Clarion and cut my losses.

Don't necessarily decide not to buy the Clarion EZD580 based on my experiences since it's possible that you could get a unit that doesn't go "out of memory" on ya and works fine for years. You could also have the same experience I did. Kind of a toss up.

The cord was excellent at first, loved that it was so long and I could have it plugging into the wall [attached to my outlet charger] and use my ipod. It worked with no problem [even synced on my computer] until it stopped working. I would have to plug it in and out numerous times until it would work again. Just wish that apple would make their cords longer

For HTC G1 Google Phone by T-mobile Plug-in Rapid Car Charger

For HTC G1 Google Phone by T-mobile Plug-in Rapid Car ChargerCharger arrived quickly and works great. Great price compared to the bucks T Mobile was charging.

Great price for the car charger but when I pulled it out of the package, the two plastic pieces surrounding the plug came apart. I taped it and it works but I really have to push it into the outlet. got what I paid for though.

Cobra HHROADTRIP 40-Channel CB Radio

Cobra HHROADTRIP 40-Channel CB Radio
  • NOAA All Weather Emergency Radio
  • Mobile Mag Mount Antenna Included
  • SoundTracker System
  • 10 Channel Weather Reception
  • 4 Watts Power Output

I purchased two of these units for our emergency "go" kits and regularly carry one in the truck.

I like the size and features where you have both CB and weather channels, the hot swap between services is handy as is the CB channel 9/19 hot key. The noise filter does work and gives better reception under some conditions.

Some limits I've found: The antenna designed for use with the unit in CB hand held mode limits communications to under a quarter mile line of sight in my case and the magnetic vehicle antenna will go about half a mile. I'm looking for a better mast antenna for the vehicle.

The weather channel reception is comparable with my scanner.

One thing that I didn't realize when I purchased the radios, and this would have made a difference to me, the A/C charging adapter is NOT part of the package and must be bought separately so if you want to stay off of the battery charger merry-go-round I recommend buying the charger when you buy the radio. Be aware also that the power cord provided for use in a vehicle does NOT charge the radios batterys.

What I really don't like and almost caused me to return the radios: These units use 9 "AA" batteries, I purchased 18 rechargable batteries about 5 bucks each, I hadn't purchased the chargers with the radios and ended up buying the biggest stand-alone battery charger I could find locally, all of the chargers I found work in paired sets and mine handles 8 at a time, so 9 is a real pain.

The radio is great for what it is. I bought it because I wanted a cb that I can use in more than one truck. The only draw-back I found is when the power cable and the cable for the magnet-mount antenna are both attached it can be hard to handle. I like the fact that the radio has all the additional stuff like the 10 NOAA channels and the high/low power switch and that the display is digital. This is a good buy but if you are going to use this in only one car or truck I would go with a hard mount cb because you don't have to hold the whole thing. But over all a good buy for the money.

I "sort of love" this Cobra Roadtrip CB gadget, but only when I'm home and when I can use my both hands on it. It's a bit cumbersome to use while driving and it's too heavy to handle, especially if you have batteries installed in it, so for that purpose I recommend buying the external microphone. I bought a BNC to standard VHF antenna adapter so I can attach my "real" home and car CB antennas to it.

Most important thing to remember is to use the external antenna it's practically useless without it when you're in a car, unless you have a buddy in a car next to yours. Antenna, preferably external, is the key part of every CB station. I have a 102" whip antenna and I sometimes take it up to the roof of our 15 floor building and talk to people who can't believe how far I am. Moreover, they can't believe that I'm talking from a hand-held, battery operated CB radio. In order to persuade them, I just unscrew that antenna and use the smaller telescopic one and if they can hear me they will confirm I sound like it should. One guy about 5 miles away was saying that his signal meter was close to the max while I was using the big antenna and he could barely hear me with the telescopic one.

The major flaw of this radio when I compare it to my low end Midland CB is the way its squelch feature works (or does not). I don't know whether it's just my particular radio or whether this is a flaw of the entire series, but you have to set your squelch level unreasonably high, which makes you miss a lot of conversations further away from you. When you set your squelch level a bit lower, or whenever someone is right on the edge of squelch threshold, you will hear a lot of unusual noise coming from the radio, almost as if it is undecided and it keeps oscillating back and forth from passing and blocking the signal. This sounds like a driver next to you is pressing and releasing the PTT button 4-5 times a second and it is much louder than the rest of the sounds you can hear on this radio, so it can be very disturbing, especially when you are driving and your loved one is asleep next to you.

NiMh batteries last forever and I don't ever connect it to my car's 12 V lighter output any more. However, another downside is that it requires two different external sources, one for charging the batteries and the other for just using the car power. The provided cable is good only for using the car power and it doesn't charge the batteries. Why not use the same connection for both?

The manufacturer claims that Soundtracker "...dramatically improves the sound quality of the transmission and reception of CB radio signals." I can't see a big difference.

All in all, it's pretty cool to have a hand held CB, but that's all what it is. I don't recommend it for drivers.

Before I got this radio, I had a similar model from Radio Shack. That was an expensive piece of junk --it wouldn't receive even when I was right next to a transmission. I wrote to Radio Shack with a complaint, and they never replied. This Cobra is one fine unit. Even with the inside antenna it performed very well and even better with the magnetic mount external. I was recently on a long road trip and I was able to avoid a lengthy traffic jam due to hearing about it in plenty of time. The only negative is the nine-battery configuration --that's an odd number to buy. A good investment for any road traveler.

In no way am I down playing the heroism of James Kim in trying to save his family but! It's ironic, a guy that into cutting edge technology, that poor family stuck in the wilderness resulting in a death; would not have happened with something as simple as the "ANCIENT" technology this radio provides. How? Getting directions from truckers, calling for help. Maybe 4watts in not that much but at night atmospherics do strange things. On a clear night and from a lofty postion its possible to increase your radio range. The 2 sources of power the radio provides will save your bacon champ.

Where there is no cellphone reception or (god forbid) natural disaster this unit and a separate scanner will save your sweet bee-hind!

The supplied magnetic antenna will do for initial use, this radio is rated a FULL 4w, same as a hardwired unit. I purchased a longer magnetic roof mount at Kragen auto parts for $12, the exact same one at Rat Shack sells for $30. Reception improved dramatically. Fer such a small unit it delivers the same features as a full size one.

1) Signal strength bar indicator(a biggie).

2) Illuminated channel display

3) Battery life indicator(they last forever)

4) Channel Scanner feature

5) Weather bands

6) Sound Tracker Technology

7) Power Saver mode

This is a simple to use Radio, the wiring with all the jacks, antenna, 12v power gets clumsey. Channel changing is clumsey too. The key is located directly on top of the channel selectors, accidental keying will occur. This unit works. Living in SF no one uses a CB. That will change come the next "big one". To talk to people I drive to the nearest freeway and talk to truckers.

For the price are you kidding me. Buy it.

I'm amending my original review, after receiving a call from the vendor and reading up on the subject, I have learned the UV-5R"A" model is actually the newest version, not the UV-5R"E"... There seems to be a lot of confusion about these model numbers, (I know I'm confused) but suffice to say that now that I (kinda') understand what's going on I highly recommend these radios as well as the vendor! 5 stars!

------original review---------

These are great radios, I already had two UV-5RE models and ordered a third (this one) for a spare and family loaner for outings and in case of emergency.

I received the shipment promptly but the model I received was the UV-5RA, an earlier model with a different front panel and earlier firmware.

Defiantly not the "New Version"

Not a big deal, it functions the same, but when I "clone" the three radios after making a change to the channels, with the "A", I get a message: "Some other settings could not be saved due to a firmware mismatch" (I use CHIRP software)

Like I said it's not a big deal, "other settings" are easy enough to change per each radio, not worth the expense of returning it for a replacement, but I was disappointed that I did not receive the "New Version" model shown...

I keep reminding myself, it's whats inside that counts. The radio design is creepy. It looks like a long retired auto designer from the Soviet Era was asked to create this mess. But as a long time amateur radio operator (KA1WBH) I am amazed at what this compact radio can do. The TX/RX frequency spread meets all of my needs for ham and marine radio use. Getting familiar with this rig will require some patience. The technical chat rooms on the internet provided far better information on how to program and use it than did the manual. The software option was a waste of time and was difficult to get into any setup.exe mode for getting the program to run. So I manually programmed it instead. The radio itself is rugged and well built, but still would have liked a case when on the belt clip. Because of it's appearance I doubt anyone would want to steal it. Many hams have extolled the virtues of this compact wonder with loud applause. For less than the cost for a new battery I was going to pay for one of my other handhelds, I was able to get a complete package. The little flashing light with panic siren is a real hoot! Obviously the designer has a sense of humor. I highly recommend this radio for long time hams and those just starting out.

For the price, the hand held is an excellent radio. The only thing I haven't tried as yet is the ear-buds but so far everything works fine, the audio is excellent. I recommend the programming cable to speed things up but there are instructions on line to help if needed. Very satisfied. Richard W7MDQ

MAHA MH-C401FS 100 min AA / AAA Battery Charger and Wall AC/ Car DC adapter with Scratch-Guard Prot

MAHA MH-C401FS 100 min AA / AAA Battery Charger and Wall AC/ Car DC adapter with Scratch-Guard Protector Bag and X4 2700 Mah Nimh Batteries ***Includes Accessory Bag***The MAHA MH-C401FS is marketed as a "100-minute battery charger". But when you use it to charge up the 2700mAh batteries that came with this charger, you'll most likely have to wait for around 3 hours. So who lied?

The fact is, C401FS charges AA cells at a fixed current of 1000mA (in Fast mode). Several years ago when this charger was first introduced, the average capacity of an AA NiMH cell was much lower. Perhaps back then, it took about 1.6 hours (or 100 minutes) to fully recharge a 1500mAh cell. But today's AA NiMH cells have much higher capacities. So to charge up a 2700mAh cell, it now takes about 3 hours (or 180 minutes) to finish the job.

Aside from the misleading marketing claim, the C401FS is actually a decent charger. It is a 'Smart' charger that charges each cell individually, and stops when each cell is full. It also allows you to select between Fast (1000mA) and Slow (300mA) charging. Unless you are in a hurry, choose the slow mode since it is better for the cells. Just remember that it takes about 10 hours to fully recharge a 2700mAh cell in slow mode.

Unfortunately, the C401FS is also way over-priced for a simple charger in today's market. For about the same cost, you may want to consider an advanced battery charger/analyzer, such as the La Crosse BC-900 or BC700 instead.

This does an excellent job charging batteries but other reviews tell you that. I'll tell you about their customer service.

I purchased this two and a half years ago. I use it constantly, as I run just about everything in my life on AA batteries. So when it broke one day, I was sad, but not disappointed with my purchase, it had served me well.

I went to look for a replacement, and saw another customer review mention the lifetime warranty. I called the company, and within 5 minutes, they said they were shipping me a free replacement. I don't even need to ship the old one back.

This is an excellent charger, and the company stands behind their product. I highly recommend it.

I originally bought this for my digital camera batteries since it allows you to leave batteries in the unit all the time and receive a "trickle" charge without damage to the batteries. It works great and the 2700 Mah batteries last a long time, even when taking flash pictures. Althoug the upfront cost is higher, having rechargable batteries is much cheaper than buying regular AA's for use in a digital camera.

After I got my Xbox 360, I started using this to keep a fresh pair of AA's charged for the wireless controller. I can generally get several hours on a full charge and you can always have another pair charging as you play.

I actually got mine from thomas-distributing, but this looks to be similar package deal. The travel kit makes it easy to make sure you have fresh batteries even when on the road.

I'm writting this review because a year ago I purchased the MH-C401FS, and have been completely happy with it.

At the time I purchased this unit, I spent 2 months researching different chargers, and agonized over "which is the best charger" out there.

I have 2 kids under the age of 8, and we go through AA batteries faster than I could ever imagine. In the past year, I have used the MH-C401 primarily to keep batteries for toys around the house, and a digital camera. The charger has worked great for us.

I guess what I like best, is the fact that it charges each battery independently. The simple red/green light indicator is perfect, so that anyone in the family knows in a second which batteries they can use.

I know some other reviews have been disappointed by the 100+ minute charging time. I use eneloop 2100mAh batteries, and the charging time has never been an issue. They seeem to be always ready with in the approx 100 minute claim.

The other huge positive, (and this has more to do with the eneloop's) is they really do maintain a charge for months at a time. This has made them a great fit for my family's use, and work great with the charger.

Again, I'm writting this because I agonized over the decision, and it's been a great charger.

LG Vehicle Power Adapter

LG Vehicle Power AdapterThis car charger was advertised as OEM, but did not work with my LG CU500 phone. The charger connector was of a different configuration then the phone socket and simply did not fit in. A replacement charger was sent by the Seller, but it was identical to the first unit, and obviously did not work either. It's possible that this car charger works well with a phone that it's compatible with, but it definitely did not work with my LG CU500. I returned this charger and purchased a Cingular car charger that works without any problems.

The item received is not OEM (it's definitely after-market) and is NOT compatible with the C1300 as advertised. Would have sent it back, except my gift recipient rendered it unreturnable. I'm now suspicious of anything offered by this vendor.

CTEK 56-260 Comfort Connect 1/4" Eyelet

CTEK 56-260 Comfort Connect 1/4' EyeletFor the longest time CTEK has aimed at the european car market with 8, 10 mm eyelets, DIN dashmount adapters, etc. For the first time we have their jack with 1/4" (YES INCH) eyelets. This makes for great compatibility on power panels with 1/4" hardware that never fit right with mm sized eyelets.

The 1/4 rings allow you to install a permanent jack for long term storage or recharging dead batteries on american cars. This is not the version with the red, green, yellow LEDs to indicate charge status on the battery those are higher priced by a few dollars and allow you to read the charge status of the battery by watching which LED flashes.

None of the LED indicator models that I have reviewed (priced higher than the simple jack like this) have american hardware yet, so if you want that feature just cut the xx mm ring off, strip the wire back and crimp on the connector which best fits your fuseblock. The blinking LEDs do not draw much power from the battery due to the brief flash, so you can ignore the power loss.

Ctek continues to expand their input and charger hardware.

I have the weathertech branded charger, that apparently is a CTEK charger. The comfort connect is a bit more sturdy than the typical pigtail. The length of this connector is perfect for my Ducati 848. It is hidden just inside the fairing but accessible.

I tuck mine in behind the side panel on the left side, so its not just hanging down from the bike, then just take the side panel off to plug it in. I may secure with a tie eventually, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere. Maybe now my batteries won't keep dying!
