Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter for iPod with Dock Connector (Black)

Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter for iPod with Dock Connector
  • Compatibility: iPod nano 1G and 2G, iPod mini, iPod 4G with click wheel, iPod color, and iPod video (includes docking adapters)
  • Built-in FM transmitter wirelessly connects to your car stereo; operates on multiple FM channels from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz
  • Four single-touch, programmable preset buttons; uses iPod display for quick and easy FM tuning
  • Flexible steel-neck construction that positions easily inside your car
  • Custom-designed swivel cradle for a secure and stable iPod connection

Strengths: All-in-one solution for docking, charging, and FM transmission; adaptable to all iPods and vehicles; versatile FM tuning options

Weaknesses: Sound quality issues typical of FM transmitters; no auxiliary audio input or output

Let's face it: using your iPod in your vehicle just isn't as simple as it should be. Unless you're driving a 2006 model year or later vehicle, chances are that your vehicle's stereo head unit doesn't provide any easy way for you to connect your iPod (or any other digital music player, for that matter). That means that you only have three options for listening to your iPod through your vehicle's stereo: direct connection to your head unit via an auxiliary input, a cassette tape adapter, or an FM transmitter. Most automobiles don't offer an auxiliary input jack on the front of their receivers, and connecting your iPod to a rear aux input--if your unit even has one, that is--is a complicated process that involves removing your receiver and (sometimes) part of your dashboard as well. So even though this setup offers the best sound quality, installation can prove difficult...or impossible. On the other hand, cassette tape adapters provide a far simpler and good-sounding method to connect your player, but they only work if your vehicle has a cassette player. So if neither of the above solutions are an option for you, then you have to begin considering either (1) purchasing an aftermarket, iPod-friendly head unit or (2) looking for an FM transmitter, and that's where the Belkin TuneBase FM for iPod comes into the picture.

If you decide to go the FM transmission route, you really can't lose with the TuneBase FM. Not only does it transmit the audio output from your iPod to an FM frequency you select, but it also provides a convenient dock for your iPod that even charges your iPod while it's in use. Many all-in-one solutions such as this are poor performers all around, but the TuneBase FM fulfills all of its duties superbly.

It goes without saying that the most important element of the TuneBase FM's performance is sound quality. After all, it doesn't do much good to dock and charge your iPod in the car if you can't listen to your music. As FM transmitters go, the TuneBase FM does an admirably good job getting audio output from your iPod to your vehicle's stereo, but it is plagued by the same sound quality issues that affect all FM transmitters. I live in an area that has a pretty crowd frequency spectrum; there are only a few frequencies that are relatively free of other transmissions. Despite this, however, the TuneBase FM still manages to transmit a clear audio signal to my receiver most of the time, although static can be a problem from time to time. I commute almost forty miles one way to work everyday, and I rarely have to switch frequencies, which is pretty impressive. Your results may vary depending on how crowded the airwaves are in your region. Compared to my last FM transmitter, a highly-rated iRock! BeamIt model, the TuneBase FM transmits a slightly clearer and more powerful signal. You won't get a much better FM signal from any other FM transmitter.

The TuneBase FM's other features are what really make it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Its docking solution, utilizing a flexible steel "neck" to support the cradle, is much more elegant, flexible, and pleasing to the eye than other solutions that use a series of thick, jointed plastic connectors. This allows you to position your iPod just about any way you please, and it also virtually guarantees that this dock is adjustable to fit just about any vehicle on the road. The dock is secured by inserting the base into a free power or cigarette lighter outlet, which is also how the device receives power for charging the iPod. Included in the box are plastic and rubber outlet adapters to ensure a snug fit in just about any outlet, and this seems to work quite well; even over bumpy roads or terrain, my iPod remains firmly upright in its cradle. It would be nice if the adjustable neck were just a couple inches longer (this unit includes a four-inch neck, the TuneBase FM for iPod nano includes a seven-inch neck), but a longer neck would likely be too flimsy to support heavier iPods such as the 60GB and new 80GB 5G video iPods.

The TuneBase FM automatically pauses and powers down a docked iPod when it the power supply to the device is interrupted, and it powers up the iPod and resumes playback when power is restored. One note about this: there is no on/off switch on the device, so it remains powered as long as the vehicle's power outlet is powered. If your vehicle's power outlets deactivate when you remove the key from the ignition, then this is not an issue. However, if your vehicle (like mine) powers your outlet(s) continually (even when the vehicle is off and the key is removed from the ignition), you need to remember to manually turn off your iPod when exiting your car or risk draining your car's battery.

Tuning to different radio frequencies with the TuneBase is a simple exercise. The device interfaces with the iPod through its dock connector, so it is able to display frequency and present information on the iPod's own display, which is much easier to read than a separate LCD readout. Tuning options are very flexible. In addition to four presets (which, if you sync with the presents on your vehicle's receiver, makes channel-hopping a breeze), the TuneBase FM allows you to to any frequency from 87.9 to 107.9, including broadcast-free even-numbered frequencies such as 88.8, 96.2, etc.

I only have a few minor complaints about the TuneBase FM for iPod. As I mentioned earlier, there is no on/off switch to accommodate vehicles with continually-powered outlets and cigarette lighters. I haven't experienced any difficulties with leaving my TuneBase plugged in for extended periods of time as long as I manually power down or remove my iPod, but it's an unnecessary extra step that I shouldn't have to take. It's also unfortunate that Belkin does not include auxiliary input and output jacks for direct connection to supported receivers or the ability to use the TuneBase for other digital media players and not just iPods. There's even a spot on the cradle specifically for an auxiliary jack; Belkin just decided not to include it with this model. That's really too bad, as I would have been more than willing to pay an extra five dollars or so for the added functionality of an auxiliary jack.

Overall, however, the TuneBase FM for iPod is an excellent product. If you have decided that FM transmission is your only option for in-car iPod connectivity, then this product is definitely worth considering and will perform admirably.

This is an excellent FM tuner solution. Unlike other FM tuners I have used, the frequencies you can use are not preset and can be reset on the fly. In addition, the Tunebase charges your battery while the iPod is in use.

There are drawbacks to keep in mind: like all FM tuners, you will hear static if you are getting signal interference. This is going to be an issue if you tend to drive in areas with heavy airwaves. This was a problem I had with previous solutions but is less of an issue since the frequencies are not hardcoded into the device and can be reset manually. It can be a little work to find a clean frequency, but that's just the nature of FM tuners.

I had originally considered finding some direct input solution for my iPod but found that it would be impractical for my car as far as the investment of dollars and work went. Seeing as how my car is about three years old, most solutions involve either replacing the stereo or actually going in and messing with the wiring in my car. I got the Tunebase as an interim solution but I am so satisfied with it I think I'm just going to use it for as long as I have this car.

This is solution for your traveling iPod! The unit includes adapters for many different iPod models. It also includes fitting to ensure a snug fit into your 12-volt car power adapter. The fit is tight enough that the plug will not rotate with the weight of the iPod.

Sound quality is great. It holds your iPod quite securely. You can position your player where it is most convenient and visible!

I have two complaints:

1. As high volume, you can hear the electronic whine of the charger. This is unavoidable but less at lower frequencies. It may not be noticeable with some music but I am an audio-book listener so I can hear it.

2. The controls are little limiting and awkward. Adjusting the transmit volume, which you admittedly do only once, is quite awkward requiring you hold the unit, hold two buttons down while pressing a third. However, selecting a different station is very easy and one-handed.

Overall, I am quite please with this and recommend it.

I, like many, used those old fashioned tape adapters when I first bought a portable CD player. The sound on that old device is far superior to the quality of this Belkin product.

My fiance & I recently purchased a 30GB Video iPod and wanted to get something so we can listen to it in my 04 Accord and her 04 Cavalier. We agreed getting a radio transmitter was the best idea since we could switch it between cars when we wanted. We got this Belkin product from a local retailer for a relatively good price.

The flexible arm was nice, we could maneuver the iPod to face us and still be within reach to skip songs or change playlists. It also displayed the station we were using on the iPod itself, instead of on the Belkin device, this too was a pretty neat feature.

But from there on out, it's all downhill. We found an empty radio station in our suburb of Chicago, 88.3, and used it. The sound was ok, but I had to turn my radio up pretty loud in order to hear it. With that came a lot of static and high pitched whirring noise that was actually a little louder than the music itself. I didn't notice the noise / static too much when we listened to pop, rock, or R&B but when Classical or Vocal music played, you'd hear static instead of silence. Also, as we'd accelerate the noise would worsen!

We got used to the static and said, we'll deal with it. However, we drove into the city recently and experienced a plethora of other problems. As we'd drive on the highway, someone would pass us. Coincidentally some of them had radio transmitters on the same station as us. We'd hear their music crystal clear as if it was being played in our CD player. After they passed us, we'd go back to our staticy sound.

A little later on, the static starting getting overwhelming and it turned out there was a weak broadcast on that station in the city, so we switched to a different empty station 88.1, and we still couldn't hear. So we tried another, and another... we didn't hear any music for the rest of our day. NO station worked.

On the way home we stopped at my fiance's parent's house, and they said we should try their DLO Transpod. We plugged it in and tried 87.9 (which they recommended) and it was crystal clear. We decided to try 88.1 and 88.3 too since they were what we used earlier that day. As expected, they worked perfectly. I've now driven for days with this new device all over the suburbs and in the city. It's like night and day compared to the Belkin device. We are returning ours today.

To sum it up, FM transmitters are rather expensive and an imperfect solution to the iPod / car issue. But if you're gonna shell out your money on a device, you expect it to work. On top of that, you don't just expect it to work "ok", you expect it to work great. The Belkin achieved a nice sleek design and ease of use, but beyond that the product is worthless. DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE!

If I could rate this a 0 out of 5, I would.

I have owned the itrip, which was convienient, because you could take it anywhere (being cordless) and play it on any radio. But the sound was absolutly awful, and it drained the baterry. Then I bought the Transpod, which was an improvement, b/c the sound was a little better, and it charged the ipod. However, It was ugly as junk. Anddd after just a month of owning it, it broke. All It did was sit in my car. You can tell it is very cheap. So now I bought the belkin tunebase fm...ANDDDDD......This thing is amazing. The sound is serously BETTER then a cd quality (if you beleive that) I serously have never heard the bass in my car hit so sharply. It also charges it, and the tunebase is pretty small and holds the ipod without any ugly cords. You need to find a station that doesnt have reception for it to come in perfectly clear, and at times I do notice the ringing noise the other reviewer mentions, but I rarely notice it. I give the itrip 2 stars, the transpod 3, and this thing 5 stars by far. I don't know how it compares to the other new fm transmitters, but compared to the older ones, it is in another league. I highly recommend it.

I used my vehicle charger for about two weeks. One day while using it in my car, I went to pick my phone up and the part that connects to the phone just came off inside my phone. I had some difficulty trying to remove the piece from the inside of my phone but I did. Otherwise I would not have been able to charge the phone with another charger. The delivery was timely but the product was unsatisfactory.

Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (Black, Retail Packaging)

Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth SpeakerphoneThis is a review for Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone

I'm not one to take my time to write reviews, but after purchasing three of these speakerphones I thought maybe it would be helpful to tell you why this is the best speakerphone I have ever used.

We live in California and, by law, have to have our Cell Phones connected by Bluetooth if we use them in the car. I have probably used 4-5 different brands and configurations in the past 5 years all with mixed results, until I came across the Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone. I really dislike using in-ear Bluetooth devices (for many reasons, but mainly because they interfere with hearing and make you look like a . . . . ). Speakerphones I have used in the past (including the less expensive Jabra products) seemed to never clearly pick-up my voice and transmit it to the caller. When I purchased my first Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (after reading a glowing CNET Review) I started using it as soon as I charged it for a couple of hours. It is the easiest, most user friendly product I have bought in a long time.

Getting up and running requires:

1. Charge unit (USB)

2. Turn on Cell Phone and put in pairing mode

3. Turn on Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone it will find the phone and announce "Connected"

4. That's it, your done.

Now to use it you only have to do one thing and remember 2 words:

1. Attach the Speakerphone to your visor and turn it on.

2. Remember 2 words when it announces by name an incoming call. a) Answer (connects you to an incoming call) or b) Cancel (phone goes straight to you voice answer message).

It really is that easy. There is a lot more that the Speakerphone will do, and there is a one year subscription to a second party company that keeps all your contacts + more so you can call one number and transfer to anyone in your contacts, send text, etc. But you really don't need to know or use any of that.

Oh, I forgot, the main reason I like the Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone is that my clients have no clue that I am even on a Bluetooth device when I talk to them in the car. No extraneous noise, no wind noise, just a clear voice. That, plus the ease of use is why I keep buying more of these and giving them to my wife, children, etc.

Did I mention that once you turn the Jabra Freeway on you don't have to touch/recharge it for a month or more (my experience, moderate use). It turns itself on when I get in the car, and turns itself off when I exit (motion detector).

Pros: All of the above. Plus, iTune music sounds pretty good through the 3 speakers and podcasts are great (you can also transmit the music/podcast to you FM radio) the Speakerphone "knows" to to stop the music/podcast if a call comes in.

Cons: It takes a couple of minutes for the speakerphone to turn-off automatically when you you leave the car. For a short time, if you are fairly close to the car (in you home or office) the unit still picks-up calls. This has happened to me only once, and my iPhone asks if I want to not use the Bluetooth on the screen, so it really is a minor annoyance.

I got the Freeway along with my iPhone 4S. It connected easily, and reconnects every time I get into my car. I sit down, and by the time I turn the ignition, it's reconnected (and lets you know by saying so). It works great as a speakerphone, callers sound good and I sound good to them. The volume goes up pretty high so you can still hear fine if you have a loud car. If you press and hold the big phone button for about 2 seconds, Siri will activate if you have it on your iPhone. Siri will use the Freeway's mic and speaker to talk to you. It's great to just press the button overhead and be able to have all of Siri's functions. If you're listening to music while you activate Siri, the music will fade out, and when you're done with it, the music fades back in.

Playing music is fairly mediocre through the speaker. While I didn't expect amazing sound out of the tiny package, it's hardly the amazing surround sound that Jabra advertises. Most songs are going to sound fine, but if you have anything with heavy bass, it gets pretty distorted. It's good enough to listen to music on my commute, and more than enough to listen to podcasts with.

The battery life is great, I seem to be getting the full 14 hours. Playing music counts as talk time, and when you check the battery status, the Freeway gives it to you in terms of talk time left. So if you have a full charge and drive a half hour with music, it'll tell you that you have 13 1/2 hours of talk time left. Since it shuts off soon after you get out of your car, it's not draining battery while idle.

As a side note, the unit won't shut up if you flip your visor down. I've never had it shut off on me while I had the visor flipped down facing both the windshield and the side window. You just have to be careful not to mash buttons when you're gripping the visor.

Overall it's good as a speakerphone, extension of Siri, and voice-only audio such as podcasts. Music could sound better, but I understand there's only so much you can get out of a tiny speaker. I haven't used any other Bluetooth speakerphones to compare this to, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Buy Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (Black, Retail Packaging) Now

The Jabra Freeway is very sleek and comes with a free and optional one-year subscription to VoiceAssist.

Setting the unit up was easy.

1. Before I could use the Jabra Freeway, I charged it for two hours using the supplied USB cable with car charger.

2. Next I made sure the cell phone was Bluetooth-enabled and turned on the Jabra unit.

3. It immediately went into pairing mode. As it is pairing with the phone device, the prompts on the phone needed to be followed and the supplied security code had to be entered (not everyone will have to enter a security code; it depends on the phone)

4. After this I began making and answering calls using voice commands, checking the battery power of the unit, etc. To make a call, I had to press the Voice button to wake up the unit and say "phone commands." If I was unsure of how to speak to the unit I would say "What can I say?" and it would give me options.

What I found very frustrating was:

1. Once I was done with a call, ending the call is not hands free. I couldn't say "hang-up, or cancel, or end" because that doesn't work. Instead I had to press the "answer end button" (which is the "phone icon" on the Jabra device) or end the call via the phone end button.

2. I also disliked having to press the Voice button every time I wanted to make a call because this meant it was not totally hands free. The only hands free part is if someone is calling you, the unit then automatically awakes and you can tell it to "answer" or "ignore" the incoming call.

3. Many times I asked the unit to make a call. Twice it brought up the EZ tip calculator, once it brought up the one-minute beep "application," and another time it brought up some other application on the phone that I didn't ask for. Another time I tried to call someone and instead it brought up the address book and rambled off both the mobile and work number without giving me the option to dial either one.

What I really loved was the optional VoiceAssist package even though I had difficulty getting this set up because the code to redeem the free one-year subscription was hidden underneath a sticker either Amazon or the manufacturer put on the box. However, VoiceAssist has the best live customer service around. In fact we called each other almost five times to get this situation resolved in a few hours. Hopefully, new purchasers won't have this experience where the offer code is hidden between stickers and impossible to read even after being held up to the light.

Below are the steps I took to get VoiceAssist to work:

1. I had to first redeem the free offer code on the box by going to [....].

2. Once signed in online to [....], I imported all my Gmail contacts into the VoiceAssist application and also set up a connection to my review_maven twitter account ([....]).

3. Once registered and after I cleaned up the Gmail import which had about an 85% accuracy rate, I then needed to program the number of 949-257-0923 under the name of VoiceAssist into the Bluetooth phone.

4. After this I had a lot of fun:

I used the Jabra unit to call VoiceAssist.

Once connected I used another set of VoiceAssist commands to "call" people in my contact list (they had to have a phone # in the Gmail contact listed that was imported), to "post to Twitter," to "read my e-mail" on Gmail--which it read very well (except it said it couldn't read the pictures), and to send an email, which it sent okay though some of my message was garbled. However, since an MP3 was attached to the email, the person receiving it could play that to get the full message.

The two posts to my Twitter account were okay, buy it got VoiceAssist wrong and typed voices instead and it typed Jabra as Java. You can look on the review_maven account to see the posts for May 28. 2011.

I didn't have the phone functionality to try the FM Transmitter or play music features of the Jabra device.

Below are some of the key features that I liked and some things I disliked:

PROS:

1. The Jabra unit is pretty easy to set up

2. The Jabra Freeway has a long battery life (about 14 to 17 hours)

3. You can pair two Bluetooth phones to the device with the last phone paired being the primary one

4. Jabra Freeway comes with a car charger for charging in your vehicle or with a 12Volt Battery Pack; the USB cable that is used to plug in the car adapter can be used without the adapter for charging with your PC

5. A free one-year subscription to VoiceAssist is supplied with purchase

6. Voice Assist understands commands better than the Jabra unit itself

7. I could check and send email and post to Twitter with VoiceAssist (Posting to Facebook is also possible.)

8. VoiceAssist provides SUPERB customer service.

CONS:

1. VoiceAssist setup was difficult and the instructions that came with the device did not tell you to program in the telephone number to VoiceAssist. Instead the Jabra instructions tell you to call VoiceAssist making you assume it's already pre-programed in the device.

2. Managing your contacts online in the VoiceAssist web site is somewhat cumbersome as the tool is in its infancy. For instance, every time I edited one of my 100+ contacts it kept going back to the first one after I saved the edit--then I had to scroll through the entire list again to go back to where I wanted to in the contact list.

3. Answer/End button is not intuitive on the Jabra unit (it's the phone icon on the Jabra Freeway); although the instructions do tell you where it's located.

4. The Jabra Freeway did not always understand my voice commands Voice Assist understood my commands much better but that still was not perfect)

5. Jabra is from the UK and only an automated help line is provided along with a website. Other than this you can send an email and wait for a response--no live support here

In summary, although Jabra will work with any Bluetooth phone, I did not feel I could get it to work exceptionally well with the Verizon LG phone I tried it with. I cannot be sure whether it was because of my or my boyfriend's voices (as we both tried it), the phone, or just the functionality of the device. Despite this, the Jabra Freeway is a very sleek unit and I felt that it responded better the more familiar I got with the device. In addition, the other reviewers are raving about the Freeway. Although VoiceAssist was not perfect, I absolutely loved that optional add-on.

Updated May 30, 2011 I sent an email to Jabra with two simple questions to see how responsive their email support was and I can tell you it's great. I sent it over the weekend and got a response this morning. The only thing that wasn't great was that one of my simple questions was answered wrong. I had asked where the answer/end button was and according to the manual it is the phone icon on the Jabra device; however the reponse I got was to "Slide the On/Off power switch to turn the speakerphone on or off" so the question was either misunderstood or the tech did not know the answer. I think it's the former.

Updated November 7, 2011 I recommended this to a former colleague and this is what he said about the device verbatim. "Regarding the Jabra device, it has worked very well. I will admit, I have not used any of the advanced features much (other than initially playing with them) as honestly I have not needed them. It has strictly been used as a straight bluetooth device and for that purpose it has worked extremely well. The speaker quality is above and beyond competing devices and the functionality (recognizing bluetooth connections regularly, turning off when it doesn't detect a device, etc) are features that are useful and allow it to stick out from the pack of competing devices. Overall, it has proven useful when I needed it."

I don't give 5 stars that often, but I love this thing.

The calls are very clear as advertised and they can hear me fine as well. It's fantastic being able to finally answer calls hands free in the car; no having to have an earpiece or anything.

I love that you can connect two Bluetooth devices at once; I don't have a smartphone, but I can connect my basic cellphone with Bluetooth to this device, as well as my iPod Touch to send music to it!

The size makes it great to take it with you anywhere and use it as a speakerphone/speakers at home.

It looks great on the sun visor of the car, as well on a desk.

There is also a built-in FM transmitter. Personally, the transmitter doesn't seem that much of an advancement to send a clear strong signal than other FM transmitters that I've owned (still getting a static or fuzzy sound on a higher volume), but still, it is definitely a nice bonus to have!

The device is also firmware upgradeable if there are any improvements in the future.

It uses a Micro USB to charge.

If you ever feel like using your cellphone in the car, when you think about the safety and traffic ticket costs, this product is a no brainer worthy investment. The versatility of this product being suitable for home use just makes it even better. Fantastic design.

Jabra I stand up and give you a standing ovation for the Jabra Freeway Speakerphone. I previously was using the Jabra CRUISER2 Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone but sadly had to give it up to my dear husband who refused to use a headset. I did not mind because this way I was able to acquire the newer model. The Jabra Freeway is the newest model since the Cruiser 2. It is a tad bit larger, but offers a few more features such as automatic turn on and off with the built-in motion sensor, and acoustically optimized HD quality microphones and surround sound speakers. You pretty much give all the commands by your voice. For example when you call comes in, you can just say "answer" or "ignore". If you want to make a call, just hit the "Voice" button once and say "phone commands", then say "call mobile". It is that easy. That is one big difference between the Cruiser 2 and the Freeway. With the Cruiser 2 you had to hold and count the seconds on the action button to make it do certain commands such as last redial or voice dial. With the Freeway everything is done with the touch of one button and I don't have to hold it for 1, 2 or 3 seconds!

I got so excited about talking about the actual usage of the speakerphone that I almost forgot to mention the setup. I am using it with the Verizon iPhone 4G and setup with so simple it took less than one minute. The automated programmed voice is very clear to hear and understand. This is the first time I have had to actually turn the volume down on a speakerphone because it was too loud! The sound is crystal clear. I really do not know how anyone can give this item a bad review unless it does not work with their particular brand of phone. in regards to the FM transmitter functions, it works as well as other types of transmitters I have tried. There is NO wireless FM transmitter out there that is not going to be static free. Think about, the only way is be able to be static free is to be directly plugged into your radio and not be "wirelessly". This speakerphone will be primarily used for phone calls and not for my the FM transmitter. I can hear perfectly loud and clear by the units speakers and have no need to be using it to play my iTunes music through it. the speakers alone will be sufficient for me to hear my calls loud and clearly.

Now lets get to the Voice Assist. Forget about it. Not worth it. I did sign up for it since it is a free trial offer for one-year but I don't see any use for it. I asked myself do I really need to urgently send someone a text message or post a status on Facebook? Is it that important that I can't wait till I am out of the car and on my computer, iPad or iPhone. I can wait I am not that important to be posting about my life's every moment for all to know. Also, what most might not realize is that you have to call a landline phone number that uses airtime off your cellular plan in order to use the Voice Assist. Signing up was not as much of a hassle as some made it sound. Just make sure to read the instructions on the Voice Assist website and you should have no problems. You have to download the firmware upload and apply it, THEN enter your UPC code after the firmware update is applied. This is for units purchased from Amazon ONLY.

YOU WILL LOVE THIS SPEAKERPHONE. I am curious to see what is next for Jabra since I can not imagine how something so perfect could be improved. Well now that I think about it, maybe they will come up with "Park Assist" on their next units. :-)

EDIT: I almost forgot to add one more thing. This comes with a really nice long micro USB cord. Not one of those "bungee" ones either. It is straight and long enough to fit plugged into a 12V that is inside my center console glovebox while charging the speakerphone still clipped to my sunvisor (while parked of course).

Briggs & Stratton 30471 8,000 Watt 420cc Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit

Briggs & Stratton 30471 8,000 Watt 420cc Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel KitAt first the lack of reviews and some issues discussed with other models made me leery of this purchase, but after research on other sites and talking to people here in the Northeast who used their generators after the ice storms heavily, I decided on this generator and I am very pleased. The generator arrived promptly, in excellent condition, was put in my garage for me, and took me all of 15 minutes to go from in the box to running. With the battery start, I know that my wife can start his up and key warm if we loose power in the winter, even if I am at work.

+ Easy set-up. Box to power in less than 15 minutes. Only tools needed is a box knife, socket set, and a box wrench.

+ Quick Start Guide. Really every thing you need to know to put it together and get it running.

+ Easy start. Kicked right over on the first turn of the key and the choke was off within a minute

+ Fuel Gauge. Some sites said it didn't have one, but it does.

+ Low Oil Shutoff. Some sites said it did not have one, but it does

+ Battery. Later I complain about what this unit did not include in the box, but they did include the battery. Some generators do not.

+ Weather Protectors. There are rubber covers over the power connections. Although this unit is not rain-proof, it dies keep moisture at a minimum.

+ Battery Trickle Charger. Plug in your generator to trickle charge the starter battery to keep it at its peak readiness.

+ Large Wheels. In conjunction with he fold down handle, rolls around easily.

+ Looks Good. Okay. it's a generator, but it does look nice.

Neutral Noise. Although not as quiet as a Honda, this unit is about the same noise level as my lawn tractor. Tolerable, but not great.

Neutral Oil Fill Location. Instructions say a funnel is optional to fill the oil. I recommend using one if you want to keep oil off the floor.

Minus What it Does NOT Come With. Many generators include a power cord, fuel stabilizer, a funnel, etc. The only thing you get with this generator is the oil and the starter battery. Is it too much to ask that you get everything you need out of the box and don't need to run about buying the pieces? It is not like these are inexpensive items to begin with. (NOTE This is not unique to this unit or this company. As you research, you will find that different companies include different things).

Update In October 2011 the NE suffered a early snow and this caused power to go out at my home for four days. The generator supplied us power for the entire four days and ran without issue. By balancing our load, not use any heavy demand items (oven, stove top, dryer, AC, etc.) and keeping the generator fueled (burned just under a gallon an hour on full load) we lived normally. My only complaint is that the keyed socket for the generator cable appears NOT to be the quality I would have liked and removal of the cable after the power came on was difficult and I could see damage to the socket.

Update #2 Maybe it is and October event, but the East Coast suffered another serious storm in October 2012 knocking out power in my area for a day. The generator had no real use since October 2011 (although I do run it under load once a month and use fuel stabilizer). The generator started right up and supplied us power for the duration. Again, other than the noise of he generator, you would have not known we were without power. As far as I can see, it looks and runs like brand new. I remain very satisfied with my purchase.

After waiting almost a month for it to come in stock Amazon finally shipped my 30471. No problems with the delivery or the state of packaging. Once opened the box I was surprised to see that manufacturing date was January 2010 which did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about it. Upon further inspection I have noticed that inside base of the metal fuel tank is already have early indicators of rusting. To top it off, after fueling it up almost to a full, the fuel gauge is not working and sitting at empty. A call to Briggs only added further frustration as the woman answered the phone after 20+ minute hold time (which was suppose to be only 3 minutes as per the automated system) was the nastiest, most unhelpful customer I every had with my entire dealing with any customer support line. I was expecting any minute for for her to curse me for calling the customer support. First she says she can't find anything in English on the unit and then she claims that there is no gas gauge on that model and I must be talking about the gas cap. Upon convincing her that there is a gas gauge she finally finds it. She tells me that she is not sure if they have any fuel gauges available, if they do !!!! she would send me one. I asked if there would be instructions included on how to install the replacement gauge, she started to bark NO, it is just 2 screws holding it and if I am not comfortable doing it I should take it to a service center. So, this is the kind a sub human service you will get from Briggs apparently. Very promising for my future purchases. Briggs if you give the a damn about customer service, you should listen to your customer service call recording.

Anyway, the generator appears to work as it should otherwise and the battery had full change on it and started without issues. With all the rust starting to creep on the metal fuel tank you should make sure to install a fuel filter on the gas line before your engine gets destroyed...

This generator functioned very well when we needed it. During Hurricane Irene, we lost power. Fortunately, we had installed a generator connection sub-panel. This generator worked perfectly to give us the power we needed until our electricity was restored.

The generator came well-packaged with easy to understand instructions. The wheel kit was the only thing that needed to be assembled. After attaching the negative wire to the battery and adding some oil, the machine was ready to go. After making sure that the fuel feed was in the "on" position, the generator started on the first try with the key-start. Although it is not "quiet," it is probably more quiet than other generators with similar power ratings. For the money, this is a great generator that I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone needing a portable gasoline powered generator with 8,000 watts of running power.

I always liked Briggs and Stration products until now.

When I was a kid we purchased Briggs and Straton engines for our Go-carts and Mini-bikes. Never had any issues, they just ran and ran well.

Two years ago I decided to buy a portable generator as we have had several power outages, Edison does not pay for your defrosted freezer food.

Ok! I looked at retail stores in my area for a good quality generator and found nothing but cheap poor quality junk.

I went online and found the Briggs and Straton model 30471 and a Generac XG8000E, They both looked like good products. But since I did not know about Generac and had been buying Briggs and Straton as a kid,I decided to purchase the Model 30471 8000 watt portable generator.

I had to purchase it in Arizona as they do not sell this model in California, We brought it home in it's sealed box.

OK! Now when opening the box there was no manual or wheel hubcaps, I called B&S support for help. They sent incomplete hubcaps (missing the red attached parts) and told me to print the manual myself on their web page.

What crap service! Next they resent complete hubcaps, that were defective.

When I finally got ready to start the generator, the gas cap would not come off. The locking tabs on the gas cap were longer then the tanks opening tab slots, I had to rock and play with the cap to get it off. I called B&S again, They sent a new gas cap that was too small for the gas tank. Then they sent another gas cap that was razor sharp on the lower edge, It fit but sliced three of my fingers open.

The hech with the gas cap! I put gas in and used the original hard to remove and install gas cap.

When the engine started there were lots of rattles,I shut it off. Several shield bolts were missing from frame and muffler support. I called B&S again, First they sent One bolt when four were missing, I called again.

After installing all the missing bolts, I re-started the generator, It did not run well, misfiring, etc. I checked the fuel shut-off filter screen, First the fuel shut-off does not shut-off and the filter screen was blocked off about 35% with the plastic material molded to make the part. Also the fuel gauge always stays on empty.

I called B&S again for a fuel filter screen and shut-off valve, And fuel gauge.

The shut-off assembly arrived in two weeks complete,But the fuel gauge was missing the view portion. I called B&S again, they argued that the fuel gauge was complete, I had to take pictures of what they sent me and email them. Days later they called and said they saw the problem and were sending the proper part as a customer courtesy! Wow! The unit has a 3-year homeowner warranty and it is only 16 months old with 6 hours of use. What kind of favor are they giving me? NONE.

I found out this generator was made in China (there are some real good products from China), But here are more issues; The paint on the frame is blistering off in several areas, The frame is rusted under the paint. The frame was not properly cleaned before it was painted in China. I keep this unit in a finished garage and covered. The rust was under the paint from day one!.

Next issue; The right end 120 volt receptacle did not work. I desided to just order and pay for it from B&S, It arrived made by Cooper USA. It was totally different from the China receptable, There are six wires with thick ring terminals on the generator that need to go under receptacle screws. The Cooper receptable screws are staked at the ends so they can not be removed without stripping out the female threads in the receptacle.USA replacement parts on a China parts generator,Did not work.

I needed to use this generator for one day only, while Edison shut off our power for upgrades or repairs. This generator ran and misfired for about 8 hrs. while our power was off, I then shut it down and put it back in my garage. A few days later I noticed oil stained floor under this Briggs & Stratton generator, Now the engine valve cover is leaking oil onto my garage floor.

I GIVE UP!!!

This purchase of $1295. was a total mistake that caused me major stress. This unit looks brand new except blistering paint, oil leaking and total run hrs are only 11.

I am donating this Briggs and Straton generator, And will never buy anything with the Briggs and Straton name anywhere on it...

I just purchased a Generac XG8000E that I should have purchased in the first place, It cost $89. more but it it so much better quality then the Briggs and Straton. The Generac is Made in USA, Has a pressure fed oil system engine with a spin-on oil filter. *And most of all you can get original USA parts, And there are no issues.

Briggs and Straton had their generator built in China and now trying to adapt USA made generic replacement parts,When a replacement part is needed.

The people at Briggs and straton are sometimes rude, And many have no knowledge of the correct parts on the 30471 Elite series generator they sell.

Maybe I got a Lemon, I lost money buying it and gained more unwanted stress.

I honestly do not recommend this generator.

Wonderful generator. Came well packaged with easy to follow instructions for the minimal assembly that was required. After putting the wheels on, connecting the battery cable and putting the provided oil in the crankcase it was ready to go. Started first time. Working well. Best part, American made.

RoadPro 12-Volt Portable Stove, Black

RoadPro 12-Volt Portable Stove, BlackIt really gets old eating fast food while out on the road.I'm a trucker and thats all they have in most travel centers. On Christmas my girlfriend got me this, and its the best gift I could have gotten. This is a tackle box stove, and its mainly a food warmer. This will get pretty hot also, and after plugged in for only 10 minutes the bottom plate has plenty of heat.I can pull into a rest area, throw some hot pockets or burritos in it.Then head down the road and then pull over and have lunch in about an hour. This stove saves me a whole lot of money as well,as i really don't have a need to eat out when I'm on the road.In the morning i can put some sausage biscuits in it and in 30 min. there piping hot.As for dinner i can warm up leftover pizza, lasagna, soups, or pretty much any frozen food and it comes out great. If theres any negative thing to this stove,I'm not sure what it would be.Its prefect for a someone running solo or a team.So if you want to eat healthier on the road or just to be able to bring some real good food with you, this would be the item to have.

UPDATE 4/11I need to to let people know i am still enjoying my stove.I'm able to pull over put my food in my stove, and about an hour later its done.I was getting burned out on hotpockets,so found other great things to cook.miniature pizzas for 45 min.(butches pizza) work great in this, you might need to trim it though.Chicken wings for 60 min.(walgreens premade)work great in this too,and a nice treat for me.campbells chucky soups for 60-90 min. using loaf pans lined with foil, our great to have as well.I like the clam chowder & chicken gumbo sausage soups.BBQ sandwiches work great in this too,i buy lloyds premade pork for 45 min.,and a package of buns and i'm set for the week.Mozzarella sticks & cheddar poppers for 45 min.our a nice treat as well. This stove really saves me a whole lot of money and being a long distance trucker,it gives me a chance to have something decent when i'm gone.

I want o start by saying the image shown doesn't really look like the Roadpro I got, the one pictured looks cheaply made and flimsy. The one I got looks much better built. Also there are no tins, not a big deal as I had some already (and I recommend getting some they will be handy)

That said this thing is awesome! I pre-made a few breakfast burritos to heat up while we were out in the Mts on a day trip. I got out my little stove to give it a try, grabbed my burrito out of the ice chest and about 10mins later had a hot meal and I do mean hot! This thing definitely lives up to the 300 degrees.

Two things to note:

1. The bottom of the stove gets fairly warm. I only had it on for 15-20mins at a time so I can't say how hot it would get but it was hot enough I took notice.

2. I felt the need to flip my burritos as it heated more on the bottom than the top. Stacking two to three didn't work well either. There was plenty of room but the ones on top didn't get hot, they might have got a little warmer but not much.

I work for the Fire Department Emergency Medical Services and always find it very difficult to have lunch since we are not given a lunch break. So, now I can just heat up my food while working and have a nice hot home made meal as soon as I have a chance instead of waiting for take out fast food. Trust me that now in this difficult times 911 is very busy and sometimes we dont even make it to a fast food restaurant. So its also a very smart way to save money for those of us working on the road.

It was so nice to have a hot meal on the outing. Beware, it draws a little over 12 amps and most car accessories are fused at 6 or 8 amps (at least the ones I've seen). I custom built my Accessory line and made it heavy duty for a 20 amp service so I was OK from the start. The unit says it runs at 144 Watts, and my ammeter agreed (12V X 12A =144W). Definately use the foil trays and consider using extra foil in those trays to cover whatever you have in them to keep it from spilling if the stove gets knocked around at all.

The items in the bottom of the tray were scorched (hot dogs) the first time I used the stove, and they were really hot after about 1/2 hour or so. The second day I added some water into the bottom of the stove (under the tray) and it was perfect...no scorching, and still really hot. I can hardly wait to try it again and come up with different things to heat up.

I bought this for my husband for christmas, He was'nt sure about it at first, but now he loves it. he works outside and is tired of sandwiches and fast food now he can take left overs or heat different soups. he said in 20-25 min it heats up to 300 degrees and his food is hot! thiss product is well worth the money.

Energizer 10W Apple Charger

Energizer 10W Apple Car Charger and CableI bought several of the 10W Wall Chargers for use with iPhones and iPads. I was pleased enough to place another order for several more. I like to have several chargers in multiple locations such as the bedroom, living room, at work, laptop bag, and luggage for traveling so I never have to worry about forgetting a charger.

Size:

From the photo, these appear to be similar in size to the Apple iPhone charger (only 1 Amp.) They are not. They are about 50% larger. This is OK as they are still relatively compact, but in a power strip you won't be able to get them in adjacent outlets. I tested this in a wall outlets and because wall outlets are spaced further apart than on a power strip, you can just get two of these in to the top and bottom outlet if you flip one over upside down. This shouldn't be a problem if you're plugging them in to a wall, but I only mention this because I imagined these being a little smaller than they actually are.

The Apple iPad charger is a larger rectangular brick that is designed to stick out more but not obscure adjacent outlet plugs which is a more efficient design. I'm not sure what Energizer was going for with design, but it seems like form took priority over function.

Folding Prongs:

The plug prongs fold in for travel which is a nice feature.

Performance:

Short of connecting a meter up to this, I have observed very similar charging speeds with this as compared to the Apple 2.1 Amp iPad charger, so it appears these are delivering a full 2.1 Amps.

The iPad and iPhone charges as fast as it does with the Apple iPad charger.

Faster charging with iPhone:

The iPhone charges faster with a 2.1 Amp charger than it does with a 1 Amp charger taking advantage of the additional power output (up to 80%, after 80% iPhones turn to a slow charge to protect the battery.) This is true with this charger as well as any 2.1 Amp charger including the Apple charger.

I shopped around a bit for a 2.1 Amp charger that was less expensive than the Apple charger. I found a lot knock offs with questionable reviews (such as that they don't deliver an actual 2 Amps of power.) I trust the Energizer brand and the price is about half of Apple's price. I would recommend this charger so long as you're OK with the size and shape.

I'll try to post pictures.

Charges the new Ipad (2012) very fast, as fast as the original Apple charger.

Well built, sturdy, does not feel cheap.

This comes with 2ft Apple Dock Connector cable, not 1.70 cm like listed in the product information.

I got mine from Amazon directly.

This is a great little car charger for multiple devices. We used it to charge my son's iPod and it worked fairly quickly, and very easily. It has a general USB port, so it can charge anything that will utilize that type of port.

The single complaint I have is that the cord is not very long at all. It certainly reaches to charge something placed in a center console, or stretched to the limit on the passenger seat, but would not not reach any further.

A longer cord would be a nice option for road trips where the passengers in the back seat could have something plugged in, or to make front seat charging a bit easier (the device could sit more safely at the back of the front seat rather than at the edge).

Generally, I think it is a handy device with multiple uses if you are going to use it close at hand.

I have an iphone 4s and I noticed when using apple and 3rd party power adapters I would get static in the background while playing music or in the phone audio. The energizer was a step up for me. It charged my iPhone but I did not notice the static. I also used it to keep an ipod touch 4 charged while on a road trip.No complaints and the included cable is really well made. Not like some of the cheap *#($%X^& cables I've tried elswhere. It will charge many USB products like my Kindle DX! So I think this is a 5 start worthy product.

GTMax Rapid Retractable Car Charger for AT&T Motorola BACKFLIP Android GSM Cell Phone

GTMax Rapid Retractable Car Charger for AT&T Motorola BACKFLIP Android GSM Cell PhoneOn the first day I used this charger in my car, when I was done, I removed it from the car outlet and the small parts were left inside.

I bought this charger for my new Motorola Backflip. The backflip was workign totally fine for 2 months. The second I plugged this charger into the phone, the cell phone started mal-functioning. It now has many glitches which require me to restart the phone several times per day. The rep at the ATandT store told me that it was probably due to the different voltage of the non-motorola charger. These things can vary slightly in voltage and a spike or surge from this charger probably ruined my phone..

Schumacher SE-8050 Manual Charger With Tester

Schumacher SE-8050 Manual Charger With Testergreat product. mine got banged up bad. i blame shipping. gonna suck it up. dont want to return a 50 lb product.

If I could do it all over again I would have not bought this battery charger. I mainly bought it for the high amperage boost application to start vehicles with weak or dead batteries. What I found is that the machine cranks up the voltage on the 300 amperage settings to alarming levels. I noticed this when my Mid 70's Pontiac Volt gauge got pinned during a boosted start. Turns out 30amp and 60 amp is enough for most starts anyway and the voltage is not crazy at these levels. I also wish I would have bought a automatic charger instead of having to baby sit this thing. It asks for using a hydrometer for calculating charge times(good luck with a sealed battery). I ended up buying a cheapo automatic Menards charger to compliment this charger. The battery load test/charge test seems to work ok. Only two stars from me. Please rate this review if it was helpful.

I bought this battery charger mainly to take with me on camping and RV trips. I have A 6.0 Ltr. diesel that I use as a towing vehicle. and I thought with this 300 amp boost I could jump start my pickup if ever I needed to. And yes while out on a trip, my pickup wouldn't stat one very cold morning. It' came out of the box damaged because it so heavy the bottom has a bulge in it. The end caps for the wheels were missing and had to go to home depot for the parts. Once assembled, it looks fine. I've not had the chance to use it yet so I just hope it works. I just hope the company will stand behind the product if it fails to charge or operate as intended. They need to find a better packaging system to protect their product for transport.

Lenmar AIDCU4 Dual USB Car Charger, High Output 4.2A for 2 iPads(4,3,2), iPhone 5, iPhone 4/4s, iPad mini, Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S II, Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD, Barnes and Noble Nook, Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tablet 2I'm a portable power sponge -I absorb all I can get. I'm often working on the road while my significant other drives. This keeps my droid bionic and my Nexus 7 charged (yes, at the same time!) while we are cruising down the road. Most chargers allow a slow drain -or they just don't really charge (but rather maintain) these two device at once. Not this little guy. Nice!

This is a very sturdy, quality charger. I have had others that turned out to be rather flimsy; they would wiggle in the socket, loose connection, fall apart, etc. This one has very stiff spring-loaded contacts which are elongated to make a very secure connection. I used the charger with different combinations of smart phones, GPS units, Kindle Fire tablet, and a blue tooth receiver. The charger performed correctly with all combinations of devices and it seems to put out the rated current because none of the devices reported that they were in slow or "trickle" charge mode. I was also pleased to find out that it is smaller than I expected and it does not project out from the socket very far at all. The USB ports also have an up angle which works well for me since my cigarette lighter socket is fairly low in my car. This makes it a little easier to insert USB cables. Overall the charger does what it is supposed to and seems solid enough to last a long time.

Many USB car chargers claim to charge two devices... very few actually can. Most of the chargers that looks like this one have either two 1Amp plugs or one 2.1Amp and one 1Amp or some other variation. You see, the problem is that if you have two devices that need more than 1Amp, then you're not really charging them both. This charger provides two 2.1A slots, so go ahead and charge your ipad and galaxy pad... it will work just fine :D

I combined this with two of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DVMRXG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_45

This is a pretty typical charger. Plug it in to the cigarette lighter and provide your own USB chargers to charge up to 2 items at a time. It's supposedly faster than others due to the high output but I didn't have anything similar to compare it. Note it doesn't come with USB cables just the charger.

The charger works perfectly for the Galaxy S II. It plugs into my car and then into my phone without a hitch. I can't however, speak for how well it works in conjunction with other phones. Otherwise.... perfect!

Sony DCC-E345 Car DC Adaptor with Selectable Voltage Switch

Sony DCC-E345 Car DC Adaptor with Selectable Voltage Switch
  • Powers a CD or MD player through a car cigarette lighter
  • Selectable voltage switch: 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0 volts
  • Plug case supplied; cord length is 1.5 meters (5 feet)
  • Unlimited power while commuting or playing at the park
  • Essential accessory for using your personal CD or MD player in a vehicle

...it generates a fair amount of RF interference. If you use this in a car, you can pretty much expect that your AM radio reception will be significantly compromised, and if you use it to power a CD power or similar, unless the player itself is quite well filtered internally, you'll notice audible buzzing through the player's audio outputs (I have a Sony CD player that is really bad in this regard).

It does do a fine job of creating power, and I suppose for the price you can't really ask for a lot of internal filtering. So... the bottom line is that it's a fine product if the aforementioned limitations either don't apply to you or don't bother you.

I bought this to replace the original adapter I got with a Sony CD car kit 13 years ago, and was very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in quality. The cord is longer to avoid pulling, and is protected by a thick rubber exterior. The orginal cord I had was thin, and while it lasted 13 years, it finally snapped clean off. This current version of the adapter is much more rugged. It works great with my portable CD player, and I'm very pleased.

I received the Sony DCC-E345 DC adapor and put it to use to power a CD player in the car. Product initally worked for a short time then started to work intermittently after a couple of uses. After a couple of days teh product stopped working altogether. I would not purchase another DC adaptor from Sony. Sony DCC-E345 Car DC Adaptor with Selectable Voltage Switch

I needed a Sony car DC adaptor for a Sony Walkman and there it was... the perfect Sony accessory! I received it really fast too. Would do it again on Amazon!

The Phillips portable CD adaptor stopped working (unless I pushed it into the cigarette lighter space) and happily I found the Sony, so I can continue to listen to CDs in the car. I did have to add the alternate plug, to make it fit the Phillips player & switch to the proper voltage. And all is well again. It arrived quickly from the shipper.

Retractable Car Charger for HTC Wildfire S, Rhyme

Retractable Car Charger for HTC Wildfire S, RhymeWorks great and love the idea of retractable so no wires to worry about in transport, etc I love it

Well, I just wanted to say that I wanted a cheap car charger and being retractable I figured it sounded like a good deal. I am pleased with the purchase in that it works like it should and the retractable feature is really convenient to avoid having cord clutter in the car.

In closing, if the manufacturer is consistent in quality, you will be satisfied with this purchase, as was I.

This is a piece of crap! CHEAP but it serves it's purpose for a short period of time, but you must handle with care.

Product charged my Samsung Instinct phone for 5 minutes, and then notifies me that the battery is fully charged. Obviously it came in as a defective product.

I ordered 2 of these and they are utter crap. They both fell apart within a week of using them. If you handle them like nitro glycerine they might last a bit longer. Mark my wordsit will work for a short time and then fall apart. Skip this unless you just need something to work for a short while. This is NOT the Sprint store version but a cheap overseas manufactured knock off.
