Power Bright ML400-24 400 Watt 24 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC Power Inverter

The only negative that I have is the low batter alarm. The batteries that it is running off of are old and don't hold a charge very well. When the clouds obscure the sun the alarm tends to go off.The inverter was purchased for use attatched to a 24 volt power wheelchair. I use it for charging my cellphone, tablet computer, MP3 player, and to power a CFL light when I must go outdoors at night. The unit performs these functions very well, runs cool and appears to have very low idle current, an advantage when running from wheelchair batteries. I would buy it again and recommend it to others.

This is being used to run a computer at a trade show where running 110V wires is not possible. We run 20 feet of #14 24V wire from a 220W 24V power supply and then used the inverter to run the computer. With only one computer as a load it does not even get warm enough to turn the fan on.Read Best Reviews of Power Bright ML400-24 400 Watt 24 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC Power Inverter Here

Whistler Pro-3000W 3,000 Watt Power Inverter

Buying a large inverter is confusing. Most people want their inverter to run the "continuous" loads that they have, plus have enough surge power to start air conditioners, microwaves, sump pumps, etc. Seems simple enough, but when they purchase an inverter, usually it can't handle the startup surge they were hoping. Herein is the problem: most people don't understand "Surge Duration".
Most inverters can put out more than their rated "continuous" output for surge. But the question is: How long can the inverter provide that surge? The vast majority of consumer inverters can only provide surge for 2 seconds with most less than 1 second! This is totally inadequate for hard starting appliances. I have measured the surge on my 2 hp air compressor, and it lasted about 5 seconds before it settled out to its "continuous" wattage. My 1000 watt microwave settles down at about the 3 second mark.
So what to do? Always look for an inverter with a long surge duration. The bigger inverter companies sell them, but they are usually labeled "Industrial" or "Commercial", and are much more expensive.
Which brings me to the Whistler Pro Inverters. Whistler Pro's have something they call "Smart Surge Control" that provides the surge wattage for close to 10 seconds. That is the longest I have found of any low priced consumer based inverter. I gave several a shot, and they work as advertised! They have more than enough surge duration to start my hard starting appliances like A/C, microwave, air compressor, large power tools, sump pump, etc. My 3000 watt Whistler (5000 watt surge) can start my hard starting RV air conditioner with no problem while also running my microwave!
...So add up your continuous wattage needs. Then find the wattage of your most surge hungry appliance (here is a great chart w w w.g e n e r a t o r s a l e s.c o m/w a t t a g e-c a l c u l a t o r.a s p ) and size your inverter based on those calculations.
Example:
Rated running watts ("continuous") of my lights + fridge + sump pump = 1440 running watts
Largest Surge wattage appliance is my big sump pump = 2700 surge watts
Pick the inverter that is above both ratings, in this case I would get a Whistler Pro 1600. It is rated at 1600 watts running continuous, 3200 surge.
Remember: inverters require VERY HIGH current, so the 12v cables have to be VERY large to work correctly. For larger inverters (1500 watt+) the cables need to be LARGER than the cables you see on your car battery. Large cables are expensive, stiff and heavy, but are a MUST! Your inverter will NOT run correctly without them! Follow the cable sizing guides, and don't skimp or you will be disappointed with your inverter's performance! I cannot stress this enough. Also, keep the 12v connectors clean and tight for reliable power.
Lastly, let's talk about your batteries:
Home backup, off grid or RV (large) inverter use requires more than one deep cycle battery, usually many more. Check with an inverter pro to size your battery bank correctly BEFORE you purchase your inverter.
For those of you that are running an inverter in an idling single battery vehicle, the vehicle alternator makes your battery look bigger than it is. In my truck I have a 165 amp alternator with a 1600 watt continuous inverter. It works terrific with the engine idling. I just don't use the inverter with the engine off. The continuous large current draw on an ordinary car battery will shorten its life considerably if the engine is not running. I could install a battery isolator with a second battery, but if I leave the truck idling, that isn't necessary. Remember, BIG cables, TIGHT clean connectors!
I hope this helps you with your inverter buying quest... Good shopping ;-)
Added on Jan 2 2013...
Just to clear up some confusion about using an inverter in a running vehicle:
If you draw more amps than the alternator can produce at idle, you will drain your battery. Once the battery voltage drops below about 10.5 volts, the inverter will shut itself down. Most alternators produce about 30%-40% of their output at idle. High output replacement alternators are readily available. Just Google "high output alternator". Be sure to increase the size of the alternator hot wire if necessary to support the higher amps of the replacement alternator...Before reading, this is meant as a review and not a guide. However, I put some tips that worked for me, but this doesn't mean they'll work in another individual's situation.
BACKGROUND STORY:
Living in the NJ/NY area, we don't see a lot of hurricanes or even tropical storms. Once in a while, Mother Nature decides to give us a taste of what one can do. Originally being from MA and also living several years in eastern NC, I've seen what damage they can do. I knew some type of backup power may be necessary. Without operation sump pumps in my basement, it would certainly flood. As Hurricane Irene came bearing down on NY/NJ expecting to arrive on Saturday night, early Thursday I frantically looked for a generator. Home Depot, Lowes, Sears were already sold out across the northeastern seaboard. As you can imagine, they don't stock a lot here. Then I had an idea. A POWER INVERTER! I quickly logged on to Amazon and looked for a 3000W that could handle my two sump pumps. I paid the extra shipping fee to guarantee arrival by Saturday morning. Sure enough it arrived when promised. THANKS, AMAZON!
Well, needless to say Irene hit my area with a massive amount of rain. Eventually our local substation flooded and I had no power. The sump pump wells started to fill quickly. Thanks to my power inverter, I was able to react! I hooked it up and got those pumps running saving my basement. I saved my neighbors basement too!
So what does this inverter do? Basically it inverts power from DC (i.e. a car battery, marine battery or deep cycle battery) to AC (110V) which your appliances need to run. In the case of the car battery hook up, your car acts as a generator (recharging batter via alternator when your car is running).
THE SET UP
I knew very little about this type of equipment, but it was surprisingly easy to set-up. I followed the instructions as listed in the manual. I have replaced car batteries in the past, so maybe that's why this seemed fairly straightforward to me. If you're not familiar with car batteries, you may want someone to assist you. Be safe!
MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE WIRES! I am referring to the cables/wires that lead from the inverter to your car battery. I didn't purchase them when I bought the inverter. I had to go to the local auto parts store and beg them to build me two about an hour before the storm arrived. This included purchasing the wire and having the proper ends added and crimped which requires a special tool. See manual for gauge required. It depends on the length of wire you need.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE GROUND WIRE (see manual for specs)
THE USE
Once hooked up to your car battery, follow the proper procedure for start-up. Then you just need to plug in your appliances into the 3 outlets provided.
Insure all connections are good!
Turn on inverter and your appliances should be powered!
Fairly simple, right?
TIPS
Purchase Whistler power cables when you purchase the inverter. If you don't, then bring the inverter and manual to a local auto parts or auto electrician to build the wires for you.
If using your car battery, one obviously doesn't want your car running in an attached garage/area without proper airflow AND ventilation. I unfortunately (?) have a detached garage which was a blessing in this case. I had my car half way in with it's tail end sticking out. Kept everything dry and no worries about asphyxiation.
You don't need the car running all the time. However, depending on the appliances you're using and how much you're using them will determine the amount of drain you'll be pulling on your car's battery. If the voltage from your car battery gets too low, the inverter will shut down and an alarm will sound. Nothing will be getting powered once this happens. You'll need to turn off the inverter, start your car engine and turn inverter back on.
Keep an eye on the voltage usage and wattage usage frequently. The alarm is not that loud, so if your neighbor is running a generator you may not hear it.
If running several appliances at once, you may need to some "power management". I was switching in and out pumps in order to avoid any overload (I was also helping a neighbor drain his basement).
Do some homework on the appliances that you're planning to run. Make sure you understand the wattage each needs to run. Remember, certain appliances like sump pumps and refrigerators need a lot more wattage to start-up than run continuously. For example, when my sump pump would start up it would pull close to 2000 Watts. Once it was running, it was only use 700 watts. So imagine your refrigerator and 2 sump pumps happen to start at the same time. You'll probably set off the auto shutdown. So just be aware of those situations.
When turning your inverter on after a shutdown, unplug all cords. Then plug one in, wait a bit, then plug in another...etc. Again, you don't want all appliances starting at same time (even though the 3000W has something like a 5000W peak...why push it???)
BOTTOM LINE:
I would recommend this item!

BESTEK 75w power inverter car dc 12v to 110v ac inverter dc adapter laptop charger notebook adapter

-treyrgI purchased the PROMOTION BESTEK 75Watt 12 Volt DC to 110-120 Volt AC Power Inverter With USB Adapter MRI711C-3 on a Thursday and it arrived on Saturday. I got this product for an inflatable bed I use when camping. I have not gone camping with it yet but I did inflate and deflate the bed I use two times in a row and it worked great, just as good as the wall outlets in my home. The unit was slightly warm to the touch after about ten minutes of continuous use but not warm enough to warrant any concern. Thus far this product has done what I got it for and it has done it well.I already own a Tripp Lite 375w inverter, but it's bulky and noisy. So I decided to buy the Bestek 75w.
My test:
The USB and AC outlet both worked well to charge my cell phone. But when I plugged in my MacBook, it wouldn't charge. I thought something might be wrong with the Macbook cord, so I tried it on the Tripp Lite, and it didn't charge either! The Tripp Lite worked previously so I was almost sure the Macbook or its cord had the problem. When I got back home the Macbook charged fine on my home AC. So I went back to the car and plugged the Macbook into the Tripp Lite charging light comes on! Then the Bestek no light. Tripp Lite again no light! I waited a few minutes and tried the Tripp Lite again light comes on! The Bestek was doing something strange. I then use my Kill-a-Watt on the Bestek. Turns out the AC frequency fluctuates wildly during my short measurement I saw it briefly dip to 40 Hz. This is way too low and was probably causing issues with the Macbook (Tripp Lite was more stable and my brief test didn't show it dropping below 50 Hz). Power couldn't be the issue the Macbook adapter is rated at 60w max, so even if I add 10% as the Bestek instructions recommend, it's still below 75w. I have a 3rd gen Toyota Prius but I assume the DC ports act just like non-hybrids.
Note that other laptops probably would work, but mine didn't. Bottom line is that the low frequency is not acceptable because the standard is 50-60 Hz. I wonder if the other Bestek inverters have the same issue.
Other thoughts:
I like the compact form factor and the swiveling body; the latter helped with plugging it into confined DC ports like the one in the console box between the seats in the Prius. The AC outlet seemed a bit tight; when the Bestek was in the DC port and I wanted to remove an AC device, I was afraid my pulling would eventually damage the DC connector, or worse yet, the port. USB port was just the right tightness.I bought this charger for two reasons
1. I need an AC connection for attaching an electronic pump to blow up air mattresses for camping trips
2. To charge two iPhones/iPad on road trips
This charger does both very well! As I noticed in some other reviews, I did notice a faint electrical smell immediately after plugging it in, but that went away after a few minutes and I haven't noticed again. I highly recommend, especially for the price. When I received the unit, I was a little worried because I percieved a burning smell. But testing showed that it worked as advertized. I was able to power my tablet PC and also used the USB port for my GPS.
If I was going to change anything, it will be the size and shape. For some reason, plugging it to 12v DC port on my car was alittle challenging. In all, I am happy with the device.

Rally 7636 Ultra Convenient and Durable Marine Certified 200W 'Cup Holder' Power Inverter with USB

I highly recommend this.
Update: It is now the end of February 2013 and it still works like a charm.product works fine it charges my laptop or other devices fine just having trouble keeping it in the cupholder it is designed top heavy!i had this for a year, it charges everything that consumes under 200 watts, it has a 12v bypass, 2 ac outlets and a USB charging port, it has the most features of any inverter i have owned, it is also corrosion resistant and has a convenient cup design. For some reason the electrical metal contacts get very hot when using a 45W mac air adapter, i assume cigarette lighters are not designed efficiently, because there is not alot of metal contact between the plug and socket. This is a very good product, my only advice is to increase efficiency and air flow for the unit, it tends to get very hot; waste heat energy that could of been electrical energy. Thicker wire? More efficient cigarette plug design?Love this inverter, I can charge my laptop, phone, and an 18v drill battery simultaneously with no issues. Runs cool and quiet too.The only downside is that it is loud.. but comes with all the receptacles I need... being loud though.. it reminds me to unplug it:):)

Goal Zero 12401 Nomad 13.5M Solar Panel

For the review part: For whatever i want to purchase i do A LOT of investigation in advance (Youtube videos, (amazon) reviews, forums, blogs) and always want to spend my money on the ONE best option available. This only works in theory (at least for me...), in practice i nearly always end up in ordering two or more items, because i simply can't decide between them.
The solar panel was supposed to power a Galaxy Tab 7 (battery = 3,7v * 4000mah= 14,8wh), a HTC Desire HD (3,7v * 1230mah = 4,5wh), some portable USB Speakers ( unfolded!
I took my two panels, my USB stuff and a multimeter outside on a semicloudy day (which is pretty much "standard weather" where i live).
Both panels were lying flat on the ground, with no shadows and partly cloudy sky. Both panels delivered about 18V (sunlinq 17 and goal zero higher with 18-19V) with no load. When switching the multimeter to Amp measurement was when my jaw dropped. GZ: 0.04A and Sunlinq: 0,5A (* 12V). Tilting the GZ panel towards the (non visible) sun though increased output to 0,138A. Tilting the sunlinq towards the sun is tough, because its similar to truck canvas and folds together too easy. Did not improve output by much anyhow...
To make it short: Both panels fell short in delivering the necessary power for my needs and my weather conditions. The Sunlinq did perform better on this partly cloudy day, but still i needed the whole day to charge the Anker2! It might work for me, but most likely i will upgrade to a 20+ watt panel with CIGS cells.
What i liked about the nomad:
The formfactor when unfolded (folded it's quite a brick)
The looks (designed in the US)
Quality seemed alright (made in China)
What i disliked:
too bulky when folded (in comparison to the sunload panel)
danger of breaking (Manual says NOT to bend and NOT to walk on the panel because of the non flexible solarcells The sunlinq feels softer, more like a tarpaulin). That's propably why they throw in an empty pack in the commercial video.
I do not want to carry a multimeter all day, only to find the correct angle for this panel to perfom. That might be the reason why mono cells are installed on roofs with special calculated angles. This is where they perform best.
weight in comparison to the sunlinq / in relation to it's performance
4.7mm special connector (SAE on the Sunlinq is motorcycle standard)
Output of the USB out not clearly declared (GZ-Website says 5V and 0,5A, printing on panel says 5Watt bad transformation? or bad translation?). Did not even get the 0,5 out though, when it was cloudy.
The Sunlinq panel is technically identical to the Brunton, Motomaster, Me2 and Sunload panels , as there is only one company which builds/"prints" these CIGS cells ("global solar" in Tucson and Berlin). Differences are only connectorwise.
In a perfect world Goal Zero would use CIGS cells for their future products
Hope this helps (pretty time consuming as i am native german and have to think twice before i write sth. in english, but i benefit a lot from american reviews and thought i'd share a "kind of" objective review).
Update 6/16/12: Got myself 2 higher rated panels for comparison: The P3 with 30wp and the sunlinq 25wp ("sunlinq 5").
First impression:
The P3 is about 2-3 times thicker than the other sunlinqs (12wp and 25wp). Apart from that, there is no big difference (in performance) at all. The only difference technically is a much higher open circuit voltage for the p3 (28V!!!), which does require a (MPPT?) charge controller as an extra investment. So all in all it depends on whether you are willing to pay nearly double the price for a ridiculous amount of extra performance, a 2yr warranty and a military tag, or not.If you are wondering whether or not to get this, go ahead and try it. This solar panel is one tough little cookie. I have this solar panel as part of the Goal Zero Sherpa 50 adventure kit. The panel folds up nicely and is easy to carry. I took it to Afghanistan with me this year, and it still works good. Sure, it has a few scratches on the panels here and there, but it hasn't affected its performance to date. This panel has fallen over due to wind onto my concrete porch floor and did not break. It even fell from my truck (4 feet) onto the driveway and survived!!
I can charge my Sherpa 50 watt battery in about 1 and 1/2 days with it.
GO ahead and buy it!!
Buy Goal Zero 12401 Nomad 13.5M Solar Panel Now
This is my third Goal Zero purchase and I was pleased and surprised to find that the output measure 20.1 watts when measured (without load) in direct September sunlight in southwest Missouri. I purchased this unit as a more powerful addition to the Nomad 7 which I use when backpacking to charge my cell phone and GPS. This unit has twice the panels of the Nomad 7, is still light weight and folds compactly for storage in my backpack. Like the Nomad 7, the Nomad 13.5M has grommets to attach it to the backpack to allow charging while on the move.I did not see the connection to directly attach the Guide 10 or Guide 10 Plus battery packs that are the mainstay of the Nomad 7; but in addition to the standard USB port for general electronic device charging it does come with the plug to directly charge the Escape 150, a standard 12 V. auto plug connector, and a connection to chain connect other Goal Zero panels. I plan to contact Goal Zero to see what options are available to connect the Guide 10 battery packs to the Nomad 13.5M or to see if I've simply overlooked the obvious connection.
I haven't taken this panel into the woods yet but I have placed it on the dash and used it to charge my android via the USB and the 12 V car charger connection as I drive home from work. Everything I've looked at so far on this unit suggest that it charges at least twice as fast as the Nomad 7 which was my first Goal Zero purchase. I'm very pleased with all the Goal Zero products I've purchased to date.
I also have to say a good word about the customer support I received when my Escape 150 didn't perform to expectations after the first couple weeks of use. I sent an email to the support line and received a prompt response with some special instructions to reset the battery. The instructions worked great for the next charge but the problem came back a week later. A second email to the company letting them know that the problem had returned was all it took and they sent a replacement battery. No hassle, no arguments, and no waiting for the bad battery to be returned or shipping charges. Even though I was initially uneasy and concerned that I experienced a problem with the Escape 150 immediately after purchase the excellent customer support convinced me that this was a company that stands behind their products and that I could trust. As a result of this customer service I now own the Nomad 13.5 and the Goal Zero Boulder 15 solar panel in addition to my previous purchases.

I purchased this solar panel because of the size and power output. I was happy when I received it and then upset when it didn't have all the outputs listed. NO SOLAR OUTPUT 6.5Product was listed as having this output (compatible with goal zero guide 10 plus battery chargers I also purchased) The product technical specs listed are for the Nomad 13, not the Nomad 13.5 (an older model). I contacted Goal Zero (who sells this) and Amazon (who lists this incorrect information) and informed them of the mistake. I had to send mine back and order the Nomad 13. Still waiting on a refund for the Nomad 13.5 I thought they would change the listing for this after I informed them of the mistake, but I see they haven't. Be aware at the time of this review the technical specs are still listed incorrectly. The only outputs on this is 12v and USB .5amp.
The Nomad 13 has:
USB 1 AMP
SOLAR OUTPUT
CHAIN CABLE
12V
The Nomad 13.5 has:
USB .5 AMP
CHAIN CABLE/12V
CHAIN INPUT
When I say chain I mean a cable to connect more than 1 panel together for shared power.
A final thought, I wish the 13.5 had worked, the 13 is only 2 panels and a little larger, the 13.5 is smaller.

I bought two of these panels as part of a backpacking / camping solar setup to charge my phone, iPod, GPS, laptop, etc. I also integrated these into an emergency power kit to charge a 12v Deep Cycle Marine battery to power my HAM radio. So far, the panels have performed flawlessly; providing all the power I need to keep my mobile electronics and radio running completely free of the grid.
The panels are very compact and fold up neatly. They can be chained together and Goal-Zero makes a ton of different connectors and adaptors to ensure that you can recharge or power nearly anything you need.

Instapark SS1203 3Amp Solar Power Charge Controller, 45 Watt at 12V

- Provides voltage status
- Prevents battery over-charging
- Prevents Battery from over-discharge
- Maximum 10 amp under load, compatible with Instapark solar panels and many other manufacturers'
- CE & RoHS Certified with a standard 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
I put together this setup for 108 dollars with free shipping.
The solar charge controller I was worried might be cheap, as soon as I got it (which took a while, everything else arrived Monday and this arrived thursday) I noticed the size was much smaller then how big I thought it would be, it fits inside your palm. I opened it to see what kind of circuitry is inside of it and I have definately seen cheaper made components so decided to give a go and tested the mA before and after the controller, it did seem to cut into the amount of power produced by the solar panel by at least 50 mA if not more, but the peace of mind that this controller gives is DEFINATELY worth the 12 bucks I spent.
Alligator clips are excellent
Would buy it again if I was building a setup like this again.

I had read somewhere that you didn't need a controller if your solar panel was less than 15 watts. I found that this was not so. So I bought this device (I actually bought two, one as a spare) and hooked it up to my solar panel. The LED indicators show when the battery is charging and when it isn't. And it also keeps the battery from discharging. I'm glad that I ordered this product.Thursday, January 30, 2014

205. It was a generic cell phone charger. When
It arrived, I took it out of the box and discovered
It was broken. I called the company and they
did replace it with no hassle.I purchased this when I purchased my Garmin 205 thinking I would need it. However, the Garmin comes with its own charger so this is not necessary. I thought about returning this item but the wording in the return policy was caustic and not at all return-friendly. Because the price was very good and because I didn't want to go through the return process with this company, I kept it.I broke my wall charger a few years ago and have been using the usb cable ever since. I finally decided to see if I could find a replacement. Amazon had multiple options as well as other replacement accessories.Needed this, and GOT IT, fast! Very affordable and just what I needed to keep up and running on schedule!
