Motorola T7100R 7-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios (Pair) (Silver)

Motorola T7100R 7-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios
  • Communicate from a distance of up to 7 miles away
  • 22 channels to communicate from along with 38 codes per channel
  • Comes with rechargeable batteries and drop-in charger
  • Backlit display for easy viewing in dark places
  • Comes with removable belt clips to clip on anywhere

I bought this 2-way radio to use around the rural community I live in, especially for communicating in emergency wildfire situations. It is an area with rolling hills, many pine, oak trees and brush.

The Good: Easy to use, clear instruction manual, more than enough channels, clear sound.

The Bad: It didn't work over a mile as soon as line of sight was lost. If there is a hill between the two radios, I could only hear a click that the other radio was trying to transmit, but no communication.

The Ugly: The radio is very cheaply put together. The rechargeable battery pack is almost impossible to insert into the battery compartment. While trying to insert it, I broke one of the battery poles in the battery compartment. I was able to repair it with some solder and glue, but I wouldn't try to remove and re-insert it. If you use AA batteries only, it shouldn't be a problem. They are easy to insert. I also tried to remove the belt clip from the radio in order to have clear access to the battery compartment. There is a little tab on the belt clip that keeps the clip on the radio, you need to pull that tab to release it off the radio. Well, the first time I pulled the tab, it broke off. After that, the clip wouldn't stay on the radio. All this experience even before I started using the radio made me conclude that this is not a well-constructed radio, and does not deserve the Motorola brand. I am returning it and I will look at the commercial grade ones instead (such as the CP200).

I am in the military, currently deployed and purchased this radio to use as a second form of communication among our squad. Although the set works, its range is smaller, its batteries do not last as long, and its about twice the size as other Motorola sets. In fact both of my radios often miss traffic that everyone else picks up. I would recommend looking at another Motorola radio before you waste your money on this.

I recently got these radios for Christmas and I am pretty impressed. They are easy to use with very clear sound. I previously had a set of Motorola 2 mile radios and in comparison, the T7100Rs work 100x better. I just got back from a vacation in Disney World and found these radios to be extremely handy. In the group of people we were traveling with we had my two 7-miles, and 4 2-miles. No matter where you were in the park you could always hear who had the 7-mile radios which wasn't always the case with the 2-miles. The only draw back was that they were just a little bit bitter than the normal Motorola radios. If you are buying these radios expecting to use them over any 7 mile terrain, don't. When they test the distance, they do so in some flat part of the dessert. I think these radios are great and would recomend them to any casual user wanting a little extra range.

my dad bought 2 sets of these and i bought one. two of his broke when he tried putting the rechargable battery in. and one of mine broke. the ones we got the battery into without ruining the radio we were not impressed with .. very poor sound quality. I hope motorola recalls this radio. I would encourage anyone to avoid this radio.

Depending on the use you would give to the radios they are very functional and cool to use. I use them with my informatic team and we work in a four stories building. Great reception in about 4 kilometers. Great accesory!

Digital Automotive Battery Analyzer

Digital Automotive Battery Analyzer
  • Checks voltage, cold cranking amps (CCA), resistance and overall battery condition
  • Continuous testing will not damage battery
  • Uses car battery for power, no extra internal batteries needed
  • Large backlit LCD screen
  • Covered in a soft case

The clamp on the positive (red) is broken. Note that has extremely flimsy plastic nubs to hold the copper teeth inside the probe's handle. Both nubs on the red side have broken off. I don't know if that was how I received it or happened during use. It doesn't matter to me since I can see that the ground (black side) has same cheap flimsy looking nubs so will require very gentle usage. I've used on three batteries.

Its pretty obvious they were saving a few cents with such cheap connection points. A pity. I'd be happy to spring for a couple more bucks to have beefy clamps such as on my different battery chargers and meters.

The electronics seems to work fine. I had AAA over to install a new battery in one of our vehicles and I compared results of his tests (mongo-meter with nice printout) with this meter and they were very close (V, milli amps, CCA). So I'm happy there. Just add some heft to those clamps.

I'm currently waiting for some Gorilla Glue to dry to attempt to hold the jaws in the red clamp. Wish me luck. Otherwise I'll remove their clamps and wire in some from an old battery charger. Even alligator clips would be superior if insulated.

Samsung 700mAh Vehicle Power (DC) Adapter with Detachable Micro USB Data Cable

Samsung 700mAh Vehicle Power Adapter with Detachable Micro USB Data CableI bought two chargers for my husband and me, for our cars. The first two I bought, after market brands, were junk. They didn't charge the phones half the time and wouldn't even fit tight into the cigarette lighter in the car. This Samsung microUSB Car Charger (for Samsung Fascinate phones or any Galaxy S phone), fits tight into the cigarette lighter and charges the phone great. I have yet to see if it's a rapid charger, but will repost on this review once I find out (just got it today). Amazon's price is much better than anywhere else ($14.99 vs $29.99), plus Amazon has better customer service than most.

This is a quality Samsung product and works fine for charging the phone while driving using it as a cellphone. Just be aware that it does not put out enough charging amperage to keep the phone charged if you are using it for navigation on the dashboard. There is another higher output Samsung charger model that I should have purchased instead.

I bought this because it was economically priced and compact despite being concerned that it'd fail shortly. But I thought, heck -if I get six months of use out of it, it'll be worth it.

I started using it and it worked fine as you would expect but after two uses (about 3 days of ownership). It stopped working. It also does not have a user replaceable fuse meaning that this is now trash.

I'll be throwing it away and buying different one.

Save yourself some potential trouble and buy a higher quality one...

This charger is solidly made. It doesn't have the flimsy feel of many after market chargers, and the price is excellent. It works great with both my Galaxy Nexus and my wife's Droid Charge.

We have several cars and I just bought a second of these. We also have a Motorola charger which is likewise of good quality and works fine, but this one is superior for two reasons. First, it has a longer cord which is not coiled. I suppose this is a matter of personal preference since a coiled cord is less likely to tangle in the car, but I find that the tug you get from a coiled cord to be annoying, not to mention that it won't work well at all if you want to mount your device to use, for example, as a GPS.

The second advantage of this charger is the USB aspect. When traveling or arriving at the office you can simply disengage it from the lighter plug and charge your phone from your laptop.

You can't go wrong with this one. Highly recommended.

These appear to be quality units. They allow a convenient method of passing heavy cables through the firewall, or any panel. The one issue I have is the lack of availability of a properly shaped panel punch. I have cut the flat sided mounting holes the old fashioned way with hand tools which is time intensive and only approximate in shape. I have yet to locate the right punch for this job.

All in all, these provide a good way to pass heavy electrical (battery) cables through the firewall, or any panel. I would purchase again.

Makita BTW450 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench Kit

Makita BTW450 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench KitI am currently in Afghanistan, at a FOB repairing battle damaged MRAPs. I just put this baby to the test and the results were exactily what I expected. I used it to fit the front engine compartment to the removed grill assembly. It actually pulled the armor to the grill, with no problem. Another thing that surprised me was the smoothness of the whole process and how quiet it was. Very nice, Thank Amazon for shipping to APOs and FPOs. Great all around experience. 2 weeks from beginning to end.

I use it on a daily basis and wouldn't use anything else. Nothing else compares, and I've tried snapon, dewalt, and a few other brands.

Buy Makita BTW450 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench Kit Now

Pros: (1) Got some power, (2) 18 volts lithium ion powered

Cons: (1) Not variable speed, (2) a bit heavy, (3) still relatively big compared to the competition

Overall, it looks to me like this impact wrench might be outdated compared with what's out there today. Most of today's cordless impacts are variable speed. You have MUCH better control with variable speed, especially when you are trying to put nuts back on. With this Makita wrench, soon as you hit the trigger, it goes full speed.

The wrench seems somewhat powerful, but I found a couple of (maybe frozen?) lugnuts this guy could not take off. It was on a '03 Corolla (I think using 21 mm nuts), which is not even close to a tank. I don't know if the car's lugnuts were put on by impact guns before at a shop, but I had no problems with any of the other lugnuts on that car.

My other gripe about this wrench is the size and weight. I did some specs comparisons of the latest cordless impacts out there today (i.e. Milwaukee 2663-22, IR W360P, and Craftsman c3 19.2 cordless impact wrench) and the Makita is the longest as well as heaviest of the bunch. When you read the Makita product description, they mention how the tool is compact and light. I'm guessing it's when comparing it to electric impact wrenches at the time the tool came out. Those electric impacts are much heavier and bigger. But now today's latest cordless impacts are more compact and lighter than this Makita. Check out the specs for the 3 other wrenches I had mentioned and see for yourself.

I actually got the Craftsman c3 19.2 impact wrench with the lithium ion batteries to try out and honestly, I like it much better than the Makita. It has variable speed, is smaller, lighter, much cheaper, and feels just as powerful as the Makita even though it only has a rating of 200 ft lbs of torque. I did some tests like tightening a lugnut to 150 ft lbs and trying both the Makita and Craftsman on it. Both wrenches zipped off the nut very easily. When removing a standard 80 ft lb torqued nut on my Honda Civic, it really seemed like the Craftsman zipped them off easier compared to the Makita. I don't know if they overstated the torque on the Makita or understated it on the Craftsman, but both wrenches seem just as powerful, however the Craftsman felt a bit stronger. Though that is just going by my observation and feeling, so there is no scientific facts or hard numbers to prove it. I don't know if this is because the Craftsman has a faster IPM (impacts per minute) compared with the Makita. Anyway, since I only need an impact gun for my cars at home (I'm never going to working on big machinery), the Craftsman seems plenty powerful enough for me.

I will say the Makita LXT series has good batteries and chargers so if you already have an investment in them, maybe you have no choice but to go with this tool if you need something with more torque. I ended up returning the tool because of the cons, but I'm hoping Makita is working on some next generation high torque cordless impact that will address all the shortfalls I mentioned. As of now, I am sticking with the Craftsman I bought.

I bought this to replace my Dewalt heavy duty impact wrench 18v XRP set. I got sick and tired of everytime I needed it the batteries were dead. Right from the start I have been extremely impressed with this tool, the power is great, I have been working on vehicles and farm equipment for more then 40 years I used this to remove the 2 1/2" blade holding nuts from a large bush hog rusted and pacted with debris, it is hard to believe how fast and efficient this tool is. It is stronger then my previous air impact wrenches and much handier out in the field. Too bad I cannot give it more then 5 stars because it deserves it. With the 18v makita lithium ion batteries it is always ready to go even months after the last time it was charged.

12 volt 18 Ah Rechargeable Battery

12 volt 18 Ah Rechargeable BatteryI bought this battery to use with my solar collector system. It arrived fast. It was one of the best priced batteries I found. My solar collector charges it all day and it keeps my water pumps and lights running all night, I was even able to lay it on it's side. I think I'm going to buy a few more.

Recently decked out a power-wheels as a birthday gift.

Final product had a 300watt stereo system, with an ipod dock, real headlights, and neon ground effects.

And even with all that action, this battery still outlasts an un-modified power-wheels.

(I wonder how long it would last with no stereo, and lights?)

Alternate charger required.

I used (Battery Tender 021-0123 Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger)

The standard power-wheels charger will ruin this battery.

didnt really know just how much the different battery ratings would affect my project. i hoped it would power a 200w space heater to thaw my windshield before i got to my car with a power inverter and a christmas tree timer. but its just a little bit more than this battery can keep up with (it will last about 3 min before my power inverter kicks off because the voltage gets bellow 10.5v) im thinking about getting another one because it will run and charge my laptop for a few solid hours (its a beast for gaming not portability) im probably going to buy another to meet my needs. oh yeah, i dont have to worry about it falling over ether, it never leaks.

My Generac 7500EXL generator is over 9 years old and I just this week had to replace this battery. The generator is always kept in my shop and plugged into the float charger. This is the exact same battery that shipped with my generator. Not many batteries will last this long. I would definitely recommend this battery.

The battery was shipped with new lug screws, it was 'fully-charged', and the identical size and configuration as the battery it replaced. My stand-alone battery jump starter / air pump kit now functions as when it was new. The old battery lost its ability to hold the full-charge needed for the 'jump-start' function. I was worried that the old battery would not be the problem, but it was solved with the replacement battery.

RND Apple Certified Cable for iPad, iPhone, iPod (10 feet/black)

RND Apple Certified Cable for iPad, iPhone, iPod*** November 27, 2011

After trying umpteen zillion cheap iPhone cables only to end up with umpteen zillion cables that don't work, or only work part of the time, I finally got an RND cable -a 6 ft white one. It was great, so I ventured out to get another RND cable -this 10 ft one. It too works great!

I agree with another reviewer that the connection doesn't totally latch tight. Being heavier/thicker cables also makes these RNDs slightly more likely to detach. For myself though, I haven't found this to be a problem. They stay in perfectly fine.

Over the upcoming months if either of my RND cables stops working I will be back in here to update my review. At this point, however, these RND cables are by far the most reliable iPhone cables I have come across.

*** UPDATE March 19, 2012

My cable stopped charging or syncing. I wrote to the company (RND Power Solutions) saying that my cable stopped working. Within just a few hours they responded saying that for one of their cables to stop working was rare, and that they would send me a replacement. Well, they did. I just got it -very fast -within about 3 business days of my writing to them.

RND backed up their product with no hassles, no muss, no fuss. I am very pleased. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from RND again. In fact, since I just left my shorter RND cable at a conference, I have just ordered another one. I like it when a company backs up their product, and does so in a hassle free way.

As an interesting aside, my first 10 ft RND cable did have a slight bit of a loose connection on the iPhone side. However the one I just received doesn't. The connection is firm. Perhaps they tightened this up a bit since earlier versions.

*** UPDATE July 3, 2012

I have now had a second one of these cables die -in less than a year from the original purchase. (This second cable lasted less than four months.) While I suppose I could write to the company as I did last time the cable died, and they may replace it a second time, I hate doing that. I just want a cable that works well, and keeps on working for a reasonable amount of time (certainly for at least a year). I have now dumped this cable and purchased a Griffin.

I am also lowering my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars. Two stars for it working well when it actually does work, and a third star for the company replacing the product the first time it died.

The cable functions as advertised, but I was surprised how thick it was. It's about twice the thickness of a normal apple cable. Also the connector that goes into your device is huge. It's about twice as thick, and twice as long. The USB is standard.

It's so big that it gets in the way can be harder to hold your device, whether it's an iPad or an iPhone. I prefer the RND 6 foot cable to this. You still get the benefits of longer length, but it is normal thickness with standard connectors.

$15.99 for a cable that was supposedly approved by Apple? After roughly 90 days of use, it doesn't work at all. RND Power Solutions INC (seller)

Read Best Reviews of RND Apple Certified Cable for iPad, iPhone, iPod (10 feet/black) Here

I have purchased a few longer cables for my iPhone in the last year, but all 3 of them have failed in a matter of months. Two were like a regular iPhone cable (only longer), but they either broke on the external case or the wires internally. The 3rd seemed to be more heavy-duty, but als it only lasted a few months before it just stopped working for no reason. Now these cables were only used for bedside charging/using the iPhone while charging & never treated roughly, but they still crapped out in a matter of months.

....then I found this one. It came today & holy crap I must say I don't think this cable will be failing any time soon.....it's quite MASSIVE!!! The cable itself is right at 3/16"...which is about the same size as the cable of my keyboard, but it feels much more rigid. I use it with my phone in an OtterBox, so it is a "snug" plug-in. It takes a slight bit more force to push it in all the way versus the standard iPhone cable, but nothing too bad. At least I know it won't accidentally come unplugged LOL

I tested it for charge & with iTunes transferring a few pics off the phone to the pc & it worked fine. I haven't used it yet to transfer large amounts of music to say whether it's faster, but I would be VERY surprised if it wasn't given the size of the cable

The 10ft is probably longer than I really need for what I use it for (bedside charging/using phone in bed while charging), but looking at the companies 6ft version this one looks ALOT "beefier" so I'll deal with the unneeded extra length ;)

Want RND Apple Certified Cable for iPad, iPhone, iPod (10 feet/black) Discount?

I am an RND fan. I purchased several of these 10' cables as I have many 6' RND iPhone/iPad cables that I have been quite satisfied with. Sure enough, this is a thicker gauge cable with a well done connector to cable assembly. It looks and feels high quality and it does, in fact, charge the iPad from 10' when connected with an iPad compatible 2A charger (don't try to charge an iPad with an iPhone 1A charger).

Unfortunately, there is no connector lock on the iPhone connector. On many other iDevice cables, there are "buttons" that you depress on the side of the Apple connector that "unlock" that connector from the device. When not depressed, the connector stays connected. This cable does not have locks. The connector does fit into the Apple jack, and it does charge, but all you need to do is slightly touch the device and the connector comes loose, stopping the charge & interrupting a sync. This is not an individual cable defect as it is true with all that I purchased. I have now had several frustrating mornings where I wake up to find that the cable has come loose from the device and failed to charge it overnight, and I have had several syncs fail due to an interruption. If they add a lock mechanism to the Apple connector, this will be a 5 star product, but until that time, I have to recommend that you avoid it unless you have a rubber band or other technique to keep the connector in place.

fine design build fowever the description lies about going into dock mode and now that i have read the other reviews i realize the the company knows and just doesn't care to change the description.

DuroMax XP4400E 4,400 Watt 7.0 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Ele

DuroMax XP4400E 4,400 Watt 7.0 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric StartPowerMax XP4400E 4,400 Watt 6.5 HP OHV Gas Powered Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start (CARB Compliant)

We live in Southern Louisiana, smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley, and decided to purchase a backup generator to deal with power outages in the event of an emergency. I wanted sufficient power capacity to run our refrigerator, a small portable AC, a few lights, a small TV, charge our cell-phones, and occasionally charge laptop batteries. We figured that around 3000 continuous watts and 4000 surge watts would be sufficient for our needs.

There are several generators sold by the hardware chains (Lowe's, Home Depot) that fit this description, but they're priced around $600 $700. After some research on the internet, we decided that the PowerMax XP4400 would match our needs, and suit our budget. Just before purchasing it, on an impulse I decided to get the model with the battery powered electric starter, instead of the one that has a rip-cord. Our purchase price (on eBay from MaxTool the same company selling them on Amazon) was $469.99, including a cover for the generator, and shipping.

The generator was shipped Fedex Ground and took about a week to arrive. The external cardboard box showed signs of rough handling during transportation, but the generator was well packed in foam, and not damaged during shipping. The whole box weighs about 130 lbs, and it helped me considerably that the Fedex driver wheeled it right into our garage. Unpacking took about 20 minutes. There are a couple of shipping braces that support the engine during shipment that take a little while to remove.

The first thing I did was to flip the generator upside-down on a mat to install the wheel-kit. There are tools provided with the generator to get the wheels and handles on. As shipped, the tires were sufficiently inflated to bear the weight of the generator.

After flipping the generator right way up again, I filled it with SAE30 oil. We live in a relatively warm climate, so I chose 10W30. If you use generator oil, make sure you chose oil made for a four-stroke engine. The oil-fill tube is awkwardly placed I have a funnel with a tube at the end out it, and found that I had to use it to avoid spilling oil. It takes about 20 oz of oil. To condition the engine, I would suggest changing the oil after 6 hours of run-time, then twice after 8 hours, and every 20 30 hours beyond that.

After filling it with gas (there is a mesh fuel-filter underneath the gas cap, I turned the fuel valve on, and started the generator. The engine turned right away, but wouldn't start. This turned out to be an error on my part it dark, and what I thought was the fully-off position for the choke was instead the fully-on position. After moving the choke to the correct position(fully-off), the engine started up. It is pretty smoky and sputters until the choke is opened. After that it runs very smoothly, with no visible smoke in the exhaust. I don't know what the noise level is, but it is sufficiently low that it doesn't bother me when the generator is running outside the house, and I am on the inside.

The control panel has two 120V outlets (20 Amp), and one 30 Amp outlet that is switchable between 120V and 240V. There is also a 12V outlet to charge a car battery. There is a circuit breaker and a voltmeter. During my initial tests, between 60 watts and 2400 watts of load the voltage stayed at 115 volts, and didn't drop. I haven't tested higher loads yet.

So far, we are quite satisfied. The PowerMax XP4400E is built well, works well, and is less polluting that more expensive Honda, Subaru, and Yamaha powered units sold at the hardware chains.

And a little tip for any small engine that is run infrequently. Make sure you mix the fuel with some anti-oxidant such as Stabil before putting it in the tank. Gas mixed with anti-oxidant should last for about one year.

Six month update (August 2009) the generator still works like a champ. Some of the bolts worked themselves loose through the vibrations, so I've tightened them. No other major problems.

Eighteen month update (September 2010) no problems yet. But I finally got around to installing a transfer switch to connect the generator to the main breaker panel in our house. I recommend this highly it is far better than running cords all over the place, or back-feeding the main panel, which is illegal and very dangerous for linesman working on the utility company's lines. Reliance Controls makes a pre-wired six-circuit transfer switch (31406/30406) that is perfect for this generator and is available from Amazon. Took me about 3 hours to install, 2 of which were spent flush-mounting it in the drywall.

Thirty month update (August 2011) no major problems. I hadn't run the generator for a long time, but with hurricane season here, it was time to change the oil, fill it with gas, and make sure it still worked. The oil looked clean, but had only been used about 8 hours since the last change (a year ago). The electric start wouldn't work (battery was run down), and I flooded the engine. The rip-cord start worked on the second or third pull. I ran the generator for an hour, and will test whether that was sufficient to charge the battery within a week or two. It would have been wiser to unhook the battery while the unit was in extended storage.

Update (November 2011) first problem with generator. One of the tires was flat when I pulled it out today to power the leaf vac for the backyard. I hoped it was just a question of the air leaking out, but the dang thing wouldn't retain air when I filled it. For now, I've sealed the leak with a few squirts of tire sealer/inflator, but I don't know if it will hold. A new tire is anywhere from $20-30, and replacement tube is about $10. The generator engine/windings themselves work fine.

42 month update (August 2012) getting ready for Hurricane Issac. Generator fired up and ran under load perfectly. I hadn't run the generator since November of last year, so I had to pull-start it and was charged within an hour. However, the green slime no longer works to fix the flats in the tires, so I had to get two new tires. Harbor Freight has some inexpensive ($7.99/ea, item 47638, 8" non-marring rubbing tire) inflatable tires that are the same spec as the tires this generator came with (270 lbs maximum weight load at 30 psi), expect they're a relatively bright pink-red. So far after almost 4 years, my maintenance costs have been limited to generator oil and two tires. That's not bad for a generator in this price range.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this generator. It is definitely a good value for the money. The FedEx guy delivered it in good condition. The packaging was excellent. I pulled it out of the box, installed the wheel kit (5-10 minutes), filled it with fuel and oil and it started right up. It is fairly quiet for a generator, but keep in mind quiet is a relative thing. I would say it is definitely quieter than a lawn mower or a typical Briggs&Stratton generator with a lawnmower type muffler (this generator has an automotive type muffler which helps keep the noise down).

It seems to be pretty well built and I expect it to hold up just fine. I bought it as an emergency backup generator and I feel it really is perfect for that use. I think if you are looking for a generator that will get a ton of regular use, you would probably be better off to spend the extra money and get a Honda. But for something that will only see occasional use, this genny really fits the ticket.

I plugged a Killowatt into it to monitor the voltage and load and found that it puts out 120V at 60HZ with no draw. As you start to increase the load, it holds the 60HZ very well right up to the top end of what it can deliver. The voltage starts to drop some as you significantly increase the load, but still manages about 110V or so.

The published numbers are not really too realistic but that is pretty common for small portable generators. It is supposed to handle 3500 watts continuous and 4400 watts surge. In actual testing here is what I found it able to do:

0-2500 watts: it works really well. The voltage and frequency are fine and its seems to be perfectly happy in this range.

2500-3000 watts: frequency holds steady at 60HZ but the voltage starts to drop to 110V. You can tell is is starting to struggle as the load approaches 3000 watts.

3000-3300 watts: you are at the top of its capability here. It does handle it but the voltage drops more and the frequency starts to drop below 60HZ. I would personally operate in this range only for short periods of time.

>3300 watts: it really bogs down significantly and any additional load causes the engine to quit.

So, overall I do highly recommend this generator, especially if you are looking for an emergency backup generator. Just keep in mind that its published wattage numbers are a bit overstated. If you are expecting it to be a Honda, you will be disappointed, but considering what it costs I think it is a very good deal for the money.

By Ernie, Retired Journeyman Lineman. The XP4400E is well worth the extra cost over the XP4400, as starter rope must be pulled out at an angle.

This is an excellent generator for the money. The voltage regulation is excellent. Amazing output for it's size along with being very quite for the output that it has. The discription Amazon has for it is great, so many items are not discribed well enough. There is a couple points I want to share with present owners and would be owners.

(1) The voltage selector switch not only changes the voltage monitor 120 to 240 but it's main function is tap changing, this being the reason it must not be switched unless breaker is off (open) or generator shut down. It parallels the two power windings when set for 120 to the 120 sockets and the 120-240 socket. You can draw full capacity fron the 120 sockets or at the 120-240 socket from terminals Bu & R, the W terminal has no voltage so 240 is not available now. (Refer to owners manual wiring diagram page 23 or 24)

Set for 240 the switch series the two power windings and now the 120 sockets have only one power winding applied and so half capacity is available here, 1750 watts from either one but only 875 watts each if both are used. The 120-240 socket now has both windings in series and now has 240 from terminal W to Terminal R and will have two 120 circuits, one from terminal W to terminal Bu and the other 120 circuit from Bu to R. Full capacity is available with the 240 voltage and half capacity from each of the 120 circuits. (Bu is the common terminal to both sockets)

(2)It isn't specified the engine has a steel cyinder sleeve and I don't think it does as I run it for 6 hrs. and changed oil and the oil in the drain pan was pretty well loaded with aluminum and silicon swirling around. I will change again after 12-14 hrs. and then every 20 then on. A filter would have been a boon for engine life, but be diligent and change oil often and it will run a long time.

I think some have gotten generators and done them in early because they didn't change oil in time. Very, Very important because the cyinder is aluminum and no oil filter. More power to all, Ernie Wireman

BUYERS BEWARE!!!

I just received this via UPS. The box was damaged and when I opened it, I can see that the arm bracket is bent. I decided not to even take the generator out of the box. As this product is listed as "non-returnable" by Amazon, let's see how the return/exchange process works... I posted a packaging feedback photo to show the condition of the carton upon arrival.

Update: Amazon arranged for pickup and shipped a new one out promptly. Thank you Amazon. However, after assembly and filling with gas, I moved it outside to start it up. I was disappointed to find that the gas tank leaks badly at the gas gauge when the generator is tilted to move it on its wheels. Now that it is filled with gas, let's see what the manufacturer will do for me. Stay tuned...

Maxtool (the manufacturer)shipped the "new" gauge quickly and it arrived today. The one that arrived was rusty and did not include the decal (empty full) but works better than the old one.

FYI, when I removed the old one, it appears that the gauge was damaged in assembly. The plastic part that the screws go thru was cracked by both screws and the glass window was loose. It would appear that to much torque was applied to the screws cracking the plastic part and allowing the glass to be loose and the gas to leak. I will update again when I use it shortly.

Update 2: I used it and it worked well albeit a little noisier than I'd hoped. It did the job though and as such would move the rating up to 2 stars or higher pending more usage/testing.

After 10 months of usage, note the following:

1) Have had to replace the solenoid for the electric starter twice as it has failed twice. My warranty is up in less than 2 months...you can bet I'll be testing solenoid replacement #2. I wonder if lemon laws apply to generators?

2) Changed the spark plug to find out that the OEM plug & gap does not match either plug listed in the manual. Makes you wonder what plug/gap works best in the generator.

3) After the solenoid failed and waiting for replacement #2, the generator failed to start with pull starter. Checked the air filter to find it was saturated with oil. Removed the head cover to find oil in the head. Note, oil was changed and level was maintained correctly. Cleaned head and will monitor oil leak.

4) An extended warranty would be helpful given the amount of problems we have had during the warranty period. However, an extended warranty is not available.

The one thing I will say in MaxTool's favor is that MaxTool does have a good customer service person and he replies promptly and clearly to inquiries. However, if you are not handy with basic engine skills, stay away from this generator or plan to pay for repairs.

Cellet Cradle Charger with Data Cable For Samsung Vibrant - Galaxy S

Cellet Cradle Charger with Data Cable For Samsung Vibrant - Galaxy SOrdered this for my niece to go with her new phone and she makes great use of it. Have had no problems with it.

UPDATE: Today when I inserted the battery, I heard a "click" and it would not charge. After opening it up, I saw one of the contacts has snapped off making it useless as a spare battery charger.

I received this dock as a gift after asking for the OEM Desktop Charging Dock. Although initially disappointed, I am quite happy with this product.

Pros:

1 I prefer the vertical placement of the phone. I think it makes it easier to use since some applications do not properly support horizontal display.

2 The quality of the build seems pretty good although there is the feeling that if you pushed HARD toward the top of the phone, you might snap the bracket. It flexes a bit which at first was disconcerting but after a day I got used to it. I want to stress again that I think you would have to push hard to break it.

3 I love the extra battery charger since smartphones are not exactly power misers.

Cons:

There is not too much here but a couple small things.

1 The implementation of the usb connector is the biggest one for me. I love how it stores when you are not using it, but when you are using it, it seems just a touch too short unless you smooth all the kinks out (from the storage channel). A smaller or right-angled connector head would have been a nice touch as the standard one they used sticks up and looks ungainly.

2 According to the booklet, you can't charge the phone and the battery at the same time when connected to a PC via usb, you have to use the AC adapter. I am sure this is a limitation of the usb port's power profile but it'd be nice to know that going in.

3 When plugged in with no spare battery in the charger, the charging light flashes red/green. This is distracting when the dock is sitting in line of sight. I have to position it so either the phone is blocking my view of the LED or something is covering it.

Overall I am pleased with this product and would recommending to other Vibrant users out there.

One other note. This dock does not auto launch the Samsung Desk Home application (typical of 3rd party docks).

We purchased two pairs of these radios so four of us could stay in touch during a large event on two levels of the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. The radios worked flawlessly. A BIG bonus is that they are small and lightweight. We are buying two more pairs today, for a total of eight radios.

We charged for 24 hours before first use, used them all day/12 hours, and batteries are still at full power. We were advised by a Midland rep NOT to leave the radios on the charger as a matter of course, but only to charge the radios when they actually needed it. It is on our checklist now to check radio battery life two days before event.

When you buy: They need a 24-hr charge before first use; and if you are running a large event, buy enough to give one of your radios to the venue rep for the duration of your event. It will save you a lot of running around looking for that person when you need them to act.

Love these radios.

Buy Midland LXT600VP3 36-Channel GMRS with 26-Mile Range, NOAA Weather Alert, Rechargeable Batteries an Now

I originally purchased one pair to stay in contact with my lead man on our shift in a manufacturing facility. Our department is extremely noisy, as we have numerous machines stamping out metal parts, forklifts beeping and driving by. I use the AVPH3 surveillance headset because my job entails that I use both hands working with pneumatic tools to set the dies to stamp the parts. When my Lead calls, I have no trouble hearing him, and answer him with the push-to-talk button clipped to my shirt.

After we used the 1st pair for a few days, we realized just how much more efficient we were working, so I ordered a second pair to give to operators so that we can be in constant contact with each other. Now, if there is a problem with one of the machines, I can ask them what the problem is, and avoid wasted time walking the 50 to 75 yards to survey the problem, and then walk back to get the necessary tools to fix the problem.

The in-ear headset also doubles as a sound-reducing ear plug, but still allows me to communicate with the crew. However, the clear plastic behind-the-ear spiral looks rather CIA/Secret Service, and I have had to put up with some ribbing from some of the other workers in the plant. If they only knew just how comfortable, and, convenient this headset is, they wouldn't rib for long.

Midland Radios has long been a leader in radio manufacturing, and that was one big selling point for my purchase. These are NOT cheap little toys, but, well-constructed, solid radios.

I would suggest to follow the instructions to give the units a 24 hour initial charge, and then to charge them only as needed, every 2 days or so.

All in all, I am very pleased with the quality, the performance, and the range that these radios provide. We may even decide to purchase a third set.

I decided to buy a pair of these.

I tried them out 11/03/2012 ref'ing a paintball game on a 2 1/2 acre field (mostly trees about 10% open space about .2 miles from one end to the other) with no difficulty on a FRS channel (Channel 9, CTCSS Sub-Channel 11). They also communicated well with my uniden radios.

The real test was yesterday (11/17/2012 ) when I was be ref'ing a much bigger event on a field that is almost 20 acres (mostly trees about 5% open space over 1/2 of a mile from one corner to the opposite corner)

They worked great! On the field they reached cleanly from one side of the field to the other (on channel 9, no sub-channel)... the longest line of sight thru dense wood that I had a chance to test was over a 1/3 mile... but better than that i had to run an errand and on the way back i used one from inside the car on the way back... they worked great from inside the car across about 1/2 mile from the responder at our registration area. About 1/2 that distance was woods and a large church building line of sight between us (That is much better than the uniden I have). I have no doubt I would get at least a mile thru dense wood. I probably won't get a chance to try them on a larger field until January. (If I don't post an update by Feb. 2013, ask for an update) (If I remember, I'll post a video of part of our field.)

Yes, I would buy another set.

The reason for only 4 stars is I haven't tried them at a really long distance yet. The largest field I've played on is Wayne's World (about 1/2mile x 1/3mile)()

Review Update:

January 19, 2013

I did order more radios.

We liked them so much we ordered 2 more radios. They went into use today.

I HUGE motivator for getting more of these radios is their battery life!

When we use them they are on continuously from just before 9am until about 2pm

The charge is lasting us 4 5 game days before they run out of a charge.

If I could bump my rating up to 4.5 stars, I would.

The reason for only 4 stars is still the same... I haven't tried them at a really long distance yet.

Review Update:

February 17, 2013

I now have 6 of these.

I tested them for distance yesterday (2/16/2013). On channel 11 (no sub-channel this time), I got 1.2 miles away in a mostly open area with some trees, and a hill preventing line of sight. There was an elevation difference too... about 100 feet. from the downhill radio the hill went up 100 feet over a distance of a 1/2 mile. I traveled level for a distance of almost 3/4 of a mile beyond that. At that distance the communication had a lot of static, but it was still very usable.

There's a picture of the test location (Fishhawk, Florida)in my facebook photos (facebook dot com /RickLiebespach)... The album titled "WFC Fields)

(There is a thin blue line from radio to radio, so you can see what was between us at our most distant conversation)

I suspect I could have gotten 1.5 miles, but I think my partner turned off his radio. This was using channel 11 (no sub-channel this time). This will serve my needs very well. (I play and referee paintball games on large fields)

As a result of this test, I am now upping my rating to 5 stars.

The product states that it has a 36 mile reach without anything in the way, such as trees and houses, etc. I live in suburbia Chicago, where everything is realtively flat. The true range of this product is somewhere in the neighborhood of half a mile, which is fine if your group or person you're communicating with gets lost or separated. It's a good trail radio. Bike trail.

The range is great! Used them in our neighborhood with exceptional clarity from a good distance (1/2 mile). Look forward to trying them for even farther distances. Would highly recommend.

Although the charger does seem to charge my phone just fine when it's on, it falls out of the cigarette lighter socket at the slightest touch (I mean to the point that it fell out when I turned a corner, never mind actually trying to pick up the phone itself). The red light (to indicate that it is "on") is also very bright, to the point that it was distracting when driving at night. At such a cheap price, there is no point returning it, but I will definitely be looking for something else.
