I own a couple of different battery packs as I have a smartphone that loves to each it's charge up when I'm hiking/biking and away from an outlet. I own a couple other Eton products and decided I would try this block from them. I'm glad I did. I can throw this in my pack when out and about and keep my phone charged wherever I go. Hurricane Sandy hit the New York area in the fall of 2012, effecting over 200,000 of us who got caught up in the fury of the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. With power out for much of us in Lower Manhattan for days, it became time to take a a more serious look at emergency preparedness. Luckily I was well-prepared for the five-day power outages we went through, but one can never be prepared enough.

Etón BoostBloc 4000 is a small, compact device that is designed to serve as a portable backup battery pack and charger for smartphones and other USB-powered devices. It's deceptively compact, more than one might guess from the images here. At a total of 4000mAh, it's listed as offering "two full charges for most phones," but more on this later.

I'll list the subjective pros and cons found so far with this portable backup battery pack/charger for those looking for just the key points, then follow with some expanded details.

The Etón BoostBloc 4000 comes packaged in a clear presentation box that's easy to open, and (luckily for us) not one of those clamshell packages. The included instructions are easy to follow. Mine arrived about ¾ charged, so I plugged it in to top it up. If it's fully drained the suggested charge time is five hours. The four blue LEDs will indicate the battery level, from 1 LED < 25% to 4 LEDs > 75%. To check the charge level, you just give it a quick shake. This seemed strange at first, but one gets used to it quickly, and there are no buttons to bump.

However... you may wish to check the power requirements of the smartphone or other device that you may want to charge. For example, my Samsung Galaxy S III (check the specs) comes with a 2100mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery, and if you quickly do the math, you'll quickly see that the 4000mAh rating of the BoostBloc 4000 is just under what it would take to give two full charges. In actual use I found that it gave about 1½ charges when the phone was left on, but slightly over 1¾ charges when the phone was turned off.

There are two other variations of this device: the Etón BoostBloc 2000, which is rated at 2000mAh, and the Etón BoostBloc 6600, which is rated at 6600mAH. Simply put, do the math before you make your choice, and you should be able to pick the right one for your needs.

In practical use, I found this Etón BoostBloc 4000 to be quite good for my needs when charging the Galaxy S III, as I was already aware of its mAh (milliamp hour) rating, so it lived up to my expectations. Also found that it had no problem putting a full charge on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9", even when I ran it down to about a 5% charge remaining. On a more practical side for emergency purposes, I plugged in my Goal Zero Luna USB LED Stick Light, a product of which I have a few, and it ran for days... I lost track as it was still providing light four days later.

◆ Summary:

The Etón BoostBloc 4000 has proven to be a solid performer that does what is expected. It's good enough that I'm considering adding the Etón BoostBloc 6600 to my arsenal of emergency supplies, as the higher-powered version also has two standard USB ports that can charge two devices simultaneously. Just be sure to first check your power requirements from the documentation of your smartphone or device so that you won't be disappointed. Simply put, this one is a real 5-star product, and one that's highly recommended.

Like most people, I carry around at least three devices with me most of the time and something is constantly running out of juice. This small, relatively light weight block carries enough charge to recharge an iphone 3X but also has enough amperage to recharge an ipad, which most portable packs cannot. It works fine to re-juice the iPhone & iPad, for example, on the plane BUT because it works only on 110 V, the BoostBloc becomes more difficult to recharge overseas if the country uses 220 V. Eton's support representative took 4 days to reply to me and then told me that I would need a voltage converter. Who wants to carry yet another device around?

I am always skeptical about FM transmitters for music playback through the radio of one's car. Having tried many of these devices I was never really pleased with the sound quality because of the amount of static that could be heard over the soundwaves.

I am happy to say that this device works GREAT! As long as there is nothing electrical between this transmitter and the antenna of your car, the clarity of the signal is amazing! I turned down the sound of my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to see how much static I could here and pumped up the car stereo volume and I could barely hear any static!

I use it with a cup holder cigarette lighter power unit (it also has TWO USB power connectors) so I can power other music devices while using the 3.5 mm jack to port the sound through the car speakers.

First of all it will not charge a dead battery battery must have at least 7 volts, which only means you have to put your battery on a standard charger for an hour or so and then put this charger on.

third for some reason it does not like interstate batteries I tried 2 of them and it would not work on them unless I went through a few differnent steps

forth I tried 2 different dry cell batteries would not charge either on

fifth on deep cycle batties it took over 7 days to charge it up after a full charge I put it back on a week later and showed only a 50% charge

It might be fine for maintaining batteries and I like the fact I can charge 2 batteries at the same time would I buy it again no. The reason is I wanted a charger that would desulfate my batteries and this one does not perform that function, or at least to my satisfaction. I was trying to avoid spending big money but you get what you pay for.

update: 1/17/13 product states 14+ volts but only charges up to 13. I have tried 6 different batteries and it has not worked an any of them. As soon as I put them in my truck they went dead. The starter would not even ingage. This charger brings them up to what it calls a full charge but when I put on my Yuasa YUA1200901 Smart Shot Battery Charger it says they are not fully charged. I will be using my Smart charger on the 6 batteries that this charger would not charge and see if there is a difference. I will update this review in 3 days

After our recent tornadoes we decided the ability to have hot showers etc warranted the purchase of a portable generator. Calculated the watts we needed and we needed the top end of the portables.

Looked at several and ordered what I thought was a GP8000 however got a GP7500. Amazon adjusted the price as they will not accept anything that may contain gasoline back even unopened. Amazon now has the right one listed.

Assembly was easy attached wheels handle etc no prpblems with assembly and it fired up and ran smoothly. There is a quirk you should be aware of. The generator does not recharge the starter battery. It takes a seperate plug in charger to keep the generator's battery charged.

Alredy had the house set up to simply flip switchs and have it on generator power but before we plugged it in the house circuit I decided to plug some 110 volt tools into it to test it. My Bosch drill ran and sparked like I had never seen before so I decided to get the volt meter out. Good thing this unit was generating 170 volts. Talking about frying electronics or just about anything else in the house! HOT HOT HOT!

Contacted Generac and was told to take it to the nearest repair station which is a 180 mile round way trip for delivery and picking back up.

Loaded the beast up in the truck with my motorcycle ramp. If you do not have a pick up truck/SUV/trailer plus at least three helpful neighbors or a ramp you may have just bought an exoensive boat anchor. Delivered it to the repair station and the three techs helped unload.

It has now been six weeks waiting for the unit to be repaired and all I am getting is we ordered the parts.

If you have a pick up, tie downs, a ramp, an accesible repair center and a couple of months to wait for warranty repairs then you might want to consider buying a Generac generator. If any of the previous does not apply to you then consider getting a brand that is sold in a brick and motar place so if you have a problem you could swap or get a refund for a defective unit.

One final bit of advice; before buying use a usage list to calculate how much watts you will need. Keep in mind that most transfer switchs only handle 7,500 watts if you need more power to run your basics.

Purchased this generator locally here in CT in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

No power for 5 days, this genset is running 15 hours per day with no issue whatsoever.

I have it back-fed into my breaker panel, powering well pump, refridgerators, lights, microwave, garage door openers, dsl modem, wifi and complete home network.

I've been getting 14 hours of run time from a single tank of gas, call it 10 gallons. More than I thought possible. Last night, ran a bunch of appliances, trying to max the genset out, and after 5 hours, had used only 2.5 gallons of gas.

The genset is noisy, but I've got behind a pool shed, so it doesn't bother us much at all.

Highly recommended. Make sure to buy the NEMA 30 Amp plug, part number NEMA 14L 30P when you order this so you can plug directly in to the 220v side of the generator.

Update. Today is 11/12/11. Here in CT, we're just coming off of an 8 day power outage as a result of a large snowstorm. This time we really needed power in order to run the heat in our house, as it was 30 degrees for several days. Luckily we had this generator fueled up and ready to go after buying it for Irene.

It ran flawlessly 24 hours / day for 8 days. It consistently ran between 12 and 14 hours on a full fuel tank of 8 gallons. I'm happy to say we had enough extra juice to run a 250' extension cord to our neighbors house for lights and a small heater. I now have 250 hours on the clock.

I run this generator in our small 10'x12' pool shed, and have fabricated an exhaust pipe extension to run the exhaust out of the building.

Ordered this after 4 power outages this summer, not to mention the outage last winter that was 3 days in 10-15 degrees F. Overall this unit is impressive for the price per watt. I was hoping that this generator was made in Wisconsin but it is not. Rather it is made in China. That being said there are high quality products that come out of China, you just have to find them. Assembling the unit only took about 20 minutes.

Here are some quick specs:

The engine is a 420cc, 14HP air cooled 4-stroke with overhead valves (OHV) w/electric start (battery included). The surge rating is 9375W with a 7500W running watts rating. The fuel tank holds 8 gallons and is rated 12 hours @ half load for run time.

Here is an easy way to assemble the unit:

1. First was remove it from the box by cutting the box off and leaving the generator on the pallet. This will assist with the next step installing the wheels.

2. Remove the (2) axles from the package with hardware (nuts, bolts, and a (1) litre bottle of SAE30 motor oil). You will also need the two cotter pins, and two flat washers. Here is a trick I found when installing the axles. One axle will not fit so that the cotter pin end is inside the wheel due to a lower motor mount. I can not remember which side it was, but you will see it. So the trick is to put one axle in one direction, and the other axle in the reverse. This means that the motor mount side will have the cotter pin so it is not viewable in the center of the wheel when looking from the side. The other side will have the cotter pin viewable from the side. The other option is to jack up the engine (very carefully) and remove the motor mount so the axle can be installed. Whichever method you choose remember to install a thin film of grease as the wheels are without axle bearings.

3. Next I would suggest adding the motor oil. I have this step as third because the unit needs to be on a flat level surface to confirm that the 1.06 Quart (one litre) bottle of oil is sufficent to fill the oil to the proper full level. Remove the yellow dipstick tube along the bottom of the engine in the front of the unit. Empty the entire bottle slowly. I had to use a funnel as it is awkward to add oil with out spilling it due to the bottle and the angle of attack that must be used to fill the engine oil. After the oil is installed screw in the dipstick and unscrew it to confirm that is to the top on the stick on FULL.

4. Add some fuel (unleaded 85 octane rating or higher)

5. Make sure the fuel valve OFF for now, side to side is OFF and up and down is ON.

6. Either use the electric start (battery should have a charge as mine did) or use the recoil-start to turn the engine over 4-5 times (you don't want it to start yet). The purpose of this step is to properly lubricate the internal engine parts before the engine starts. This is not even mentioned in the manual, but if you want it to last a long time I would highly suggest this step. This is not a pressurized oil system (there is no oil filter to filter the oil and no pump to spray oil in vital areas). This type of air-cooled engine works by slinging oil off from the crankshaft located at the bottom of the engine to lubricate the piston and other moving parts such as bearings. The Amazon description when I bought mine said it was a pressurized system but I knew it was incorrect because I looked up the info on Generac's website.

7. Now you can turn the fuel valve ON (give it a few seconds to fill the carburator bowl) then also move the choke to the left which is the ON position. Make sure the switch is set to RUN if pull starting, and Start if your using your electric start. One interesting thing you may want to know about the battery is that the generator on this model does not charge the battery. The unit does come with a small charger that plugs into the front of the switch panel and into a regular 120 volt outlet. You will need to charge the battery ocassionaly to keep it ready to start the generator. Overall not a big deal.

8. Now step 8 is up to you, but I would suggest reading the manual when you have time. Also make sure to install a ground cable and also get a auto-transfer switch, if you will be hooking this to your meter or fuse box. For us the cheapest option for the transfer switch was to call our electric coop that installs the switch for free, but you need to buy $550 transfer switch. By using the transfer switch you will not need a bunch of extension cords running all over and getting shut under a door. All your normal outlets and appliances, well pumps, washer/dryer all still plug into the house normally through the outlets. Now you wont be able to run all that stuff at once with this unit but there are some generators that can. One cord is then run into the fuse box (consult an electrician) or installed into your meter (call your provider to see if they offer a auto-transfer switch, this saved us at least $2000 versus the electrician/fuse box option. So that's it other than the silly stuff like don't ever use it indoors, or in confined spaces and read the manual!

Hope this help some in making the decision. Overall thanks Amazon.com for an outstanding transaction from price to delivery. Took awhile to get to me but with free shipping I sure didn't mind. Very good quality unit that is made in China. Remember folks they make good quality stuff and bad quality stuff just like any where else, but from my experience this is a very good generator for the price. Remember to change that oil after the first 30 hours, and after that you are safe to go 100 hours between an oil change according to Generac. The hour meter will remind you when its time to do the scheduled maintenence, see the manual on hour to clear it after maintenance if you plan on doing this yourself.

I just purchased Generac GP7500E generator with electric start. Although there are 12 volts on the battery terminals, and I recharged it twice to make sure, nothing happens when I push the start switch. Generac referred me to a local repair shop. The shop will look at my generator but I will have to pay for transportation from and back to my home. Generac will not reimburse me for this expense necessary to fix their faulty brand new product. They said they will not take the malfunctioning product back either. Generac took my money when I bought their product. Now, I have to pay more money to get their product fixed before I even started using it.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this brand as they will not support their product. I purchased a generac generator because it was highly recommended by a friend. It arrived in an un-damaged box strapped to a wooden pallet but when I started to assemble it I noticed damage to the starter housing. When I contacted generac they had me take it to one of their service centers, they informed me that if the repair wasn't approved by the manufacturer that I would be charged, needless to say this concerned and infuriated me. When I contacted generac again they tried to blame the shipper for the damage and told me that it would depend on what the repair shop said. After the service center examined the generator and agreed that the damage had to have occurred prior to being packaged and shipped generac still refused to repair the generator. It hasn't run and hasn't even had fluid in it; and they refuse to make it operational. They say that I have to go through the shipper to get it repaired. Well it's going back to generac and I will be buying another brand, maybe a Briggs and Stratton. They don't even seem to care that they will be loosing a customer. So do yourself a favor and avoid this brand as they will not support their product.

As with so many products on Amazon, a big part of my beef with this charger is the minimal description. In this case it's actually misleading, implying that this is a highly versatile charger, which it isn't. I instead turned to an owner's manual that I found online, which is generic and likewise describes several functions (including adjustable current settings) not found on this unit, which is specifically designed for charging your car's starting/accessories battery, or for standard lead-acid 6 or 12 volt deep-cycle batteries. The unit seems to be fairly solidly built (in Mexico), a rather old-fashioned design based on a heavy 60-Hz transformer rather than a switching power supply. It's nevertheless microprocessor-controlled, and does a decent job of charging up your car battery without overcharge. However, it's not recommended for anything smaller than 40 Ah, which would exclude most motorcycle and lawn tractor batteries as well as UPS batteries. The only available settings are manual/automatic-SLI/automatic-deep-cycle and 6V/12V. There's no separate AGM setting, for example, even though those should have a different charging profile than flooded batteries. Overall, it's an OK product for its limited purpose.

I purchased this charger and really like it it has an automatic shut off so as to not over charge the batteries which is very useful!

This is a must for any regular golfer who has a sky caddie. No remembering to bring the caddie in and out of the house. Leave it in the car and charge after your round or before the round. This a huge step up from the 5-mile Cobra radios that I also own. To a point that I actually find them useful.

The biggest range I was able to get from them in a residential area was around 1 mile, and a good usable range would be around 1/2 mile. This was not exactly line-of-sight, with a lot of residential houses in between. So, yeah, the 16-mile range claim is completely bogus, and it would be stupid to expect something like that from a 2-watt GMRS radio. Hence, I find 0.5 mile usable range to be respectable, but I wouldn't say that about the advertising claims of the manufacturer, of course.

Curiously, the transmitt power seems to be very similar to my 5-mile radios. The main difference is in quality. With these radios I'm able to receive the same signal further away, and it is much clearer.

So far, the most use I got out of these radios was on a 400 mile trip to LA. With my old radios, I had to be almost right next to the other car to communicate, a car in between or distance over 300 feet will make the signal too weak. The new radios were working very well. Granted, our cars didn't get further than 1/2 mile apart, but in that range the signal was always very strong and clear. I was very comfortable using them during the entire trip.

Pros:

AAA batteries easily replaceable, when stock batteries die.

Handsfree compatible very useful when skiing or driving.

NOAA forecasts kills time when bored on a camping trip.

Handy volume knob put on high to hear a call, then set to comfortable level to communicate.

Weatherproof wouldn't dunk them, though, and they don't float.

Cons:

Unstable when in the charging base.

Hand-straps could be useful with these.

I'm glad these radios use AAA rechargeables. I'm only going to use my radios several times a year and I'm sure they will last much longer than the batteries will (build quality is pretty good, BTW). Li-ion batteries only make sense when you use your radios a LOT, otherwise store your Li-ions half-discharged in a fridge, or they will loose their capacity in just a couple of years.

The original Cobra handsfrees are overpriced, and although, they have the same plug as many cell phone hansfrees, polarity is reversed. Of course, that last part can be fixed with just a little soldering. I'm anxious to try these radios on the slopes, when ski season starts. Then would be a good time to update this review.

The only reason I gave these radio's 3 stars is because I know they are the same as any other 2-way radio's. I also own a set of Uniden 5 Mile FRS 2 way radio's, but I decided to buy an extra set so each user can have their own charger.

I also like that these Cobra radio's use standard AAA rechargeable batteries. This way when the batteries go bad you just buy another set of rechargeable batteries.

Do not believe the claims of 16 mile range, they barely do 1 mile if you are lucky. In fact my other set which is supposed to do 5 miles go just under a mile in reality about the same as these 16 mile ones. I don't know how they can advertise this, but they are all the same.

I tried them in low and in high and the distance was the same. Here's the kicker, I read the manual that says in order to use these legally in high power setting, you will need a license from the government? A license so you can talk a full mile away? That's a load of crap. Seriously, these things are nothing but a toy and a license to use them is laughable.

I have no problem keeping them on low power, especially since I will only be using them to contact the house next door (a relative). My new cell plan is only 200 minutes prime so these will do the job just fine, just don't expect much distance out of them.

I ran the test in my area which has a lot of trees. I left one home with my wife and drove my car away, I even turned down the windows. I had a fully charged battery in both and both were set at high.

Do not expect anything better from other brands, good luck. By the way, the price for these here at Amazon is great and I would sugest buying them if they fit your needs. There is 8 AAA rechargeable batteries includes, that's a value of at least $20 just for the batteries, so you get these 2 way radios for really cheap when you consider the value of the rechargeable batteries.

The batteries look like regular recharable batteries. 600 mah NI MH. Well, good luck replacing these batteries. I got new ones that were the same 1.2V and NI MH but 800 mah (longer running). Though the batteries operate the unit just fine, the charger will not accept the batteries. At this point, it's cheaper just to replace he units.

I have had these radios for about 1.5 years now. In the beginning, they worked ok not what I would expect for the money. One of the radios now has not worked for the last year or so. We use them mainly for hunting and can't depend on them at all. I have a pair of Uniden 12 mile radios that work constantly regardless of temperature, weather, terrain etc. The unidens are crystal clear up to at least 3 miles (the furthest test), the Cobras work sometimes at distances slightly over 1/2 mile. The radio that does not work will not transmit or receive without cutting in and out. I've talked to Cobra and they suggest that the age and use may have shorted out the PTT button. Seeing as how they have less then 20 hours on them, I don't feel the quality is very good. I would avoid these at all costs and go with a cheaper model (Uniden or Oregon Scientific The $14 pair of O.S. have been used in the same conditions for over 10 years and I've never had a problem with them.)

The video are very blurry at 1920*1080 even worst at others setting, and the software came this product not even working. I'm not even bother wasting time to return this product just going to get a different one. First dash cam what a lets down. Bummer

Power button not functioning properly, have only had it for just over three weeks.

Design of device is wrong, the windshield attachment device interfers with either the power port or the power button so that it is not possible to have both the power port and the power button clear, you have to pick which side of the device you want the turn knob located to free up either the port or the power button but you can't have both at the same time.

Software programing is worthless, does not have GPS integration, in fact, to my knowledge, there is no way to integrate the GPS data with the video data. A GPS text file is created, good luck on actually using it. Directions were worthless.

Since I am not able to return the device I am stuck with it. Do your homework and get a device that has good software integration and has all the function buttons/ports accessible.

Finally, device needs to be told when to switch to infrared, this is annoying as it should be smarter and know based on programming.

It's a nice camera, pretty small and easy to handle. The video is nice, clear, continuous, a bit washy maybe. The bad parts: battery lasts a little over 30 minutes and GPS doesn't work. You better keep the camera plugged in and if you don't mind driving with a wire hanging in front of you while charging, it's a good camera. Let's say I recommend it.

When I initially saw this product on Amazon, I was thrilled. I wanted it for use with my 60gb Zen Vision W. I thought this would be an alternative to purchasing the extra battery. When I received this so called Emergency Battery Extender, I immediately tried it out. What a disappointment. When initially plugged in to my Zen, the battery (recharge) indicater appears as if the battery is really charging but then the battery indicator disappears. On the surface this appears to be a great product. The reality is that it doesn't work. When this charger / tip setup is plugged into the Zen, the battery light changes to indicate the unit is plugged in and the battery icon will remain at 100% until the Zen battery dies and at that point you will be out of juice. This item does not do anything except make it appear as though your Zen is being charged but it doesn't actually charge it nor does it enable you to use your Zen when the internal battery is low or discharged.

To address the obvious:

Yes the Gomadic was turned on

Yes it was plugged in correctly

Yes the Gomadic had fresh batteries

BTW it does the exact same thing for a Dell Axim 50v. It appears to charge but doesn't do anything.

I bought this product Schumacher IP-95C Jump Starter and I am totatly disapointed with it. It has failed everytime to jump start any vehicle with dead battery. Before I purchased this, I was stranded on the Lake with a dead battery and I was introduced to this type of compact jump starter when someone offered to help. They had a Duralast brand and it jump started my V-8 boat with no problem. I was stupid and went with what I thought was a much better brand. No Way!! I am stuck with this piece of crap and absolutely no support from Schumacher. They would not even let me pay the difference to upgrade to higher amp hour unit. Their ridiculous response was that these units are not designed to start dead batteries????????? The only way I can interpret this is this unit will only work if your battery is still turning your starter. What good does this do if your battery is not turning starter!!!!This unit will do nothing if you are getting a click click click from your starter. The biggest joke yet was the fact that this unit would not even start my motorcycle when I tried conecting to my battery. Much smaller battery than car or boat!!!! bought this product as I have a 20year old car that was idle for the winter. I used my other cars to jump start it a few times but this is so much easy and better! once I started using the car it died at rush hour just off the exit ramp in a very busy intersection, on a dark and rainy night. I used the Schumacher IP-95C and was able to get out of that dangerous situation and managed to get the rest of the way home safely. No trying to get another car into an already busy and congested intersection, just raise the hood and connect this product and that was it. it. So far so good. A lot lighter than my old one, which was working fine except my son needed it more than me.

I've used the pump to re-inflate my exercise ball, wheelbarrow tire and the tire on my portable generator.

I've jumped the car battery twice and I love the fact that an extension cord plugs right in with no hunting for the right wall charger to use. I'll bet there are 6 different ones in the garage, for weed whackers etc. I also love the fact that it is so light. The old one was tough for me to lift out of the car with my bad back. Still haven't had the need to use the CSB port. But I'm sure I'll need to charge my cell phone one of these day's out in the woods fishing.

I needed to upgrade the converter on my older motorhome. The 30-amp converter it had supplied unfiltered, unrgulated power to the various circuits, which is fine for incandescent bulbs, but not for powering electronics or modern LED lighting. The old converter also had a fairly ineffective 5-amp charger.

This PowerMax converter supplies clean well-regulated and filtered power to all circuits with an upgraded 55-amp capacity. It also functions as a "smart" multi-stage battery charger, delivering a bulk charging rate up to its full 55-amp rating. This is important for automatic faster charging from shore power or generator without having to resort to an external battery charger.

The PowerMax line of converter/chargers seem to offer features and performance equal to the other brands (Iota, Progressive Dynamics) at a significant price savings.

Installation is easy. If you are replacing a similar converter, it is as simple as disconnecting the DC leads from the old converter and attaching to the new one. Can't get much easier than that. If, however, you are upgrading a 6300 series Progressive Dynamics converter, it is just a little bit more difficult. It involves gutting the old converter and installing the new one in its place, along with a simple wiring modification. If you search the internet for "progressive 6300 converter upgrade" you will find step by step instructions, with photos. If you are handy, the job can be completed in an hour or so, and at significant savings compared to the "official" upgrade from Progressive, which costs about 2.5 times what this does. I found that I had to bend the mounting ears of the PowerMax to get it to fit inside the gutted chassis of the old converter, but it was very easy.

With just a little bit of work, my coach now has a modern converter with multi-stage charger for just a little over a hundred dollars. So far I am pleased with its performance. If I had to complain about something, it would be the fan, but all similar converters have such a fan. The fan on this unit only runs when needed rather than continuously as some do. In many installations it will be hardly noticeable. As a 6300 upgrade, it might be a bit more audible when running, because the converter vents into the living area, but that also provides for better cooling less risk of overheating and damaging the converter.

Overall the 55 amp PowerMax converter is a great value, and enabled me to upgrade to a 55-amp unit at a lower price than other brands' 30or 45-amp converters. This makes me very happy with my purchase.

This unit is well made, strong, and simple to use. I like that it works as both a battery charger and a power converter (to power 12v units independently, through household AC current). I have only used it for 3 weeks, so I can't rate it 5 stars yet. Very pleased.

Motorola I776 Car Charger

I just got this item. The quality was typically okey kind of thing.. "Made in China!!" there is no where markings of MOTOROLA .. Right now the charger seems working.. will post more info after sometime. The main problem i see is the cable is kind of very short. I mean if you are thinking of connecting the phone and using for GPS or keeping on dashboard it might not be possible. The length is typically i feel 20 to 25 inch (may be even less) i am guessing. I have to keep my phone down between two front seat... due to short length of cord. For this cheap price I anyways did not expect some great product.. and obviously it will be from China!

This car charger stopped working properly after about 8 months. It charges on & off, and takes forever to charge 1%. it isn't worth the pain of plugging it on & off constantly! I'd say this product is pretty much useless.

I have owned the Zumo 450 for almost 3 years and use it regularly both in the car, boat and on my touring bike. The original program did not recognize certain roads or facilities so i updated it last year and now it is vastly improved. This unit is fairly water and shock proof which is important on the bike and boat where it has been rained upon more than once. My previous GPS would have never withstood such treatment. I do recommend updating any of these GPS units over time so they will continue to provide effective service.

The Rapid Car / Auto Travel Charger w/ Tip Exchange for the Garmin Zumo 450 Gomadic Brand does not work with the Zumo 450 motorcycle cradle nor did it work as pictured. I bought the charger in conjunction with the auto mount. With the charger in the auto mount plug, it doesn't charge the unit (Zumo 450), and there is no sound. The mount came with no plug-in, so it is unusable. In fairness, the charger will charge the unit if plugged into the bottom, but not when plugged into the mount. This is bizarre, but I didn't buy it for the car, so it was no huge inconvenience. But I would have preferred knowing this. The instructions for the charger and the mount separately mention "power connection" but don't say what it is. More bizarre.

But Garmin is a top unit. It has not stopped me using it on my motorcycle. That unit is a direct power mount.
