Car Charger for Samsung U820 Reality

Car Charger for Samsung U820 RealityFirst charger they sent me: I tried this charger on two different Samsung u820 Reality phones (mine and my wife's) and in two different cars. My phone showed the battery bars moving on the screen. (It acknowledged that a charger was connected and that it was supposedly charging). But when I took the phone off the charger, it was at the same charge level.

Then I sent the seller an e-mail about the problem...

Second charger they sent me: Works fine. The seller was very easy to deal with and sent me a replacement quickly after I made the initial complaint.

What a waste!!! It did NOT work AT ALL! Never will I buy it again. Do not buy this product, invest in another one.

I purchased this charger because of it's price and I needed one for my truck because I was going to be doing alot of traveling for school. It has been the nuts! It charges my phone completely and quickly, I have had no problems with it and I would recommend buying this instead of paying 2-3 times more for one at the cell phone retailer.

ATD Tools 5928 12 V 1700 Peak Amp JumpStart

ATD Tools 5928 12 V 1700 Peak Amp JumpStartI got this battery jumper and was not sure if it would do the job. For the price it should.Well it did I took it up the mountain to start our tractor, and it worked great.I started it 7 or 8 times and the jumper was still going strong. You get what you pay for and in this case it was worth it.It's nice to know that you don't have to worry about a jumper. It was very cold out and it started right up.The only thing about this battery that some might not like is that it is a tad heavy.I would not want to carry it too far,but if you do not care about the weight then there is no other one out there that will compare to this one.If i get another one it will be another one of these.Great buy.

i like this product very much. i use it for industrial purpose as i work with aaa and it works great. use it all day and night and charge when i have down time. great product, rugged and easy access to replace the battery instead of buying a new pack. i am still on the original and have only pros

I think this Jump Pack could start the Space Shuttle!! It is a little big and a little heavy but man can this thing crank! The best feature is the long cables. they are very soft and flexible. you can set the pack on the ground and the cables will easily reach your battery. Nice for when you don't have a spot under the hood to balance the pack while you start your vehicle. I will be ordering another one for my dad's birthday.

Look no further, this is the last pack you'll need!

Bought this to replace a older starting unit from Home Depot that didn't have enough power to turn over the car. Batteries are heavy and you can tell right away that there is a substantial battery inside this unit because it it heavy. This unit was the most powerful I could find and on my first use as soon as I hooked it up the whole car came alive with radio, AC blower and everything else that was on when the car was last turned off. The motor turned over as quickly as a normal start. The cables are long enough to leave the unit on the ground and reach the battery and very flexible making them easy to maneuver. Very happy with this purchase, my neighbor has borrowed it twice now and is about to order one for themselves.

Want ATD Tools 5928 12 V 1700 Peak Amp JumpStart Discount?

The ATD 5928 is built to stand the wear and tear from constant use. It is charged using a charger that has a 120vac to 12vdc transformer on one end and a cigarette lighter plug on the other end. It is not a typical set up. When I tried to find a replacement cable, the company had no idea where to specifically find the part. They don't support the product, the consumer needs to search on their own and/or design there own replacement part. For a product that sells for somewhere between $90 and $199, depending on where you look and how much the shipping will cost, that seems like a very problematic philosophy for running a company. You either provide parts support, make the parts standard off of someone's shelf, or you send two sets of the parts most likely to fail.

Samlex America (SEC1230A) 30 Amp Smart Charger

Samlex America 30 Amp Smart ChargerI have used boat battery chargers on every big boat that I have owned. Some required very large systems, because they basically counted one(1)battery as a bank. I purchased this, not for my boat(I already have one on it), but for a back up to my solar charged 12 battery electric system(3 banks of 4 batteries).

I rewired both the solar charging system and the existing backup system to integrate it with this charger. Because it is probable, that batteries may be in use, even at night, I disabled the "Boost" 2nd stage of the charger, so that it would not be overcharging any of the battery banks. When overcharging they gas and boil out the electrolyte. With manual chargers, you have to sit right on them and make sure that they are not boiling over. The 1st "Bulk' Charge rate will take them to 80%, and the way that I have set the charger(manual explains how)it will then go to the third stage, "Float." All done, automatically.

Samlex makes great products and, 'they ain't cheap.' Amazon's vendor sells this cheaper than I have seen it, anywhere in this country. I was concerned that I might not be getting it when I was originally told that I would, but these good folks stepped up to the plate and got it to me exactly one day after it shipped. Incredible. This old, 'DIY Engineer' highly recommends both the Amazon partner and Samlex products.

The charger works perfectly. It has one ground (negative) terminal along with 3 positive terminals. The 3 stages (as I understand) will help prolong the life of a deep cycle battery. This charger has two dip switches that the user can adjust depending upon what type of battery is being charged.

I have the unit permanently mounted near my battery bank. The cord is run a couple of feet over to the receptacle. It is a tad bit inconvenient to pull the cord when I want to shut it down but I can live with that. I may be showing my ignorance by saying that it should have an on off switch. But that is the only thing negative that I have to say.

SOLAR ESA1 12V Male to Male Outlet Charger Cord

SOLAR ESA1 12V Male to Male Outlet Charger CordThere's nothing fancy about this cord, it's literally just 4 feet of wire with male plugs on each end. The solder connection look good inside, but the housing almost comes apart at the nose when not in a socket. When I got it the cost was 1/2 as much as another, so if you want something cheap and simple this seems better (and it has no LEDs or such that give even a tiny drain if you want to leave it between 2 batteries or such). But it also came with no instructions, so although you may think "You just plug it in don't you?", there are some things you need to think about and beware of that I'll pass along.

First, any power cord with male plugs on both ends has the possibility of one end being plugged into a source (like your car) and the other touching something metal (like a body part of the car) creating a "short circuit" which can start an electrical fire (unless a fuse saves you). So although the 12V won't zap you if you touch the bare end, just remember if you pull the plug on one end, always instantly pull the plug on the other end (don't ever leave just one end connected).

I thought they may have a resistor or such inside this to limit current flow thru it as power goes from your car to a "jump start" battery (which is it's advertized purpose), but it doesn't. Although some may think "That's good so you get the full car power faster to recharge it, right?", the truth is this also can create an electrical fire or blow the car fuse from the high power draw and small wires in this. That becomes a real problem if a battery is heavily drained (see my added comment) or if someone tries to use this to "jumpstart" from car-to-car. I did try this to recharge a "jump start" battery in my car after I'd drained it at least 50% and after 10+ minutes of recharging I pulled the plug finding the positive terminal was pretty warm. Nothing came apart or such, but any wires or connections getting warm isn't a good sign.

The one other concern I'll pass along is from seeing several places say "You shouldn't charge a sealed AGM or gel battery to more than 14V" (which is what's in most "jump-start" packages), yet I know that cars alternators usually bring the battery to ~14.75V. So charging in a car with this has the potential to "over-charge" it some, but at the same time it's best for the battery to recharge it ASAP after using it (not leaving it drained). So I'd still use it, but probably only for 15-30 minutes depending on how drained it is and the size. (I also find it interesting that while that 1V "overcharge" is a big deal to some including the OEMs of most "Jump-start" batteries, the trickle-chargers provided have the potential to go to 17V+ if left on too long. Those trickle chargers don't instantly get to those higher voltage levels, yet take so long that it's easy for many to go off leaving it plugged in for 24+ hours forgetting about it, and yes I've done that. One manual even said "Once the fully charged led is on, leave it for 3-6 more hours" making me wonder if they weren't saying "overcharge it, but don't overcharge it". So which has the higher potential to overcharge and damage the battery, a higher current charge limited to 1V "overcharge" for a short time in the car or a slow current over a much longer time that can go to 3-4V over? Seems to me the trickle charger is.)

very heavy duty and solid workmanship. It does exacly what it needs to and was very reasonably priced. I am very happy with it

Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB Port

Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB PortOverall this is a great little charger. My favorite feature would definitely have to be the DC plug since my car only has 1, and I don't have to buy another splitter to power other devices.

For powering a laptop, the AC plug works great.

The main reason I bought it was to power a HP Touchpad, which apparently the 2.1amp USB plug still has trouble doing.

The only other complaint I would have about it is that the fan makes a quiet ticking noise. It's just loud enough to hear; if it were more like a fan noise I wouldn't have an issue with it.

I initially was looking for an inverter with an extra 12V power outlet because I have a Soundfly Car FM Transmitter for SD card/USB/MP3 in my older car (which lacks an Aux input on the stereo), and the Soundfly occupies the 12V outlet all the time. Finding such an inverter which ALSO has a USB power port, and a 2.1A high-powered one at that, was a huge bonus. And the cup-holder form factor is very convenient. This product is brilliant; absolutely, totally perfect, or it WOULD be... And that brings us to some of the minor drawbacks.

For one thing, there is no On/Off switch on the inverter. My car never turns off its 12V socket, key in the ignition or no key. The Duracell inverter theoretically will disengage if the car battery gets low, but I'd rather not find out. That means remembering to unplug the thing every time so as not to leave the inverter circuits constantly live on the battery, which greatly lessens its convenience.

For another thing, the USB port is supposed to be a high-current 2.1A variety. However, my iPad2 doesn't seem to charge at full speed on it. The iPad SAYS it's charging, and the charge percentage doesn't go down, but then, it doesn't really go up, either.

Another minor complaint, the inverter fan generates a faint ticking buzz. It's enough to be irritating if you're sitting in the parking lot listening to something quiet, but luckily, once you're underway, the fan is easily masked by engine and road noise. I rarely notice it, and honestly, the Duracell is much quieter than the last inverter I owned.

(Also, there is only one of each kind of port. One 12V, one AC, one USB. For me this is perfect, but if you need, say, multiple USB charge ports, you might need to go a different way.)

I have addressed these concerns by: Ignoring the fan noise. Using my iPad on the USB port, and not worrying about whether it's charging at full speed or not. (If my iPad is REALLY low and I need it to definitely charge FAST, I can always plug its own little white charger into the AC outlet on the inverter. Shouldn't have to do that, but it works.) And finally, I installed a heavy duty lamp cord switch on the inverter's 12V power feed wire, so I can leave the unit plugged in in my car but turn it on and off. Thus voiding the product warranty, but for me, the increase in usefulness was worth it.

Overall, this is a highly useful gadget, I use it every day and am glad it's there every day.

Buy Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB Port Now

This is a great little inverter for the money. It doesn't get 5 stars because of one very big problem--if you leave it plugged in, it will run your battery down if your vehicle continues to send power to the cigarette lighter even when the key is turned off. Luckily for me, this happened to me in a nice, heated garage, and I had another vehicle with jumper cables handy. Since then, I have been very careful about unplugging it every time I get out of the car. The cupholder shape fits perfectly into my car's cupholder. I love the fact that it has 3 outlets--(1) 12v outlet, (1) 120v outlet, and (1) usb charger port. I can charge my phone, listen to my mp3 player (powered by 12v), and run my GPS off the wall charger all at the same time. When I was researching to buy this unit, I spent a lot of time looking for one similar to this. There are cheaper and less expensive units out there. Very few had the size, power, and function of this unit. It's been great so far. It's never overheated (yet), and it is so quiet, I can't even hear it running, even with the car turned off. When I bought this, it was about $40.

Schumacher SC-10030A SpeedCharge Automatic Charger and Maintainer

Schumacher SC-10030A SpeedCharge Automatic Charger and MaintainerSome years back, I began using deep cycle AGM batteries in a few of my vehicles. Why use such expensive batteries that need specially regulated chargers? Well, let's just say you already know if you've ever had a standard lead-acid battery die and leak acid that ate the battery compartment and fender wall away of a stored vehicle (I had a brand new battery do this to one of my cars in less than six months storage) or you might know if you don't keep the batteries pulled out of stored vehicles.

Recently, I found one of my expensive AGM batteries to be severely discharged (at 20% charge) from disuse. Normally this would not be a problem as I have always owned an industrial battery charger over the last 40 years that will quicky build a battery or boost start even an 18-wheel tractor. I've had the current one since the late 1970's and it (a NAPA charger) still runs flawlessly although it will soon need a new AC power cord due to worn insulation.

Okay, therein lies the hidden problem that made me need a new charger. Most chargers including my old NAPA were/are not designed for properly charging newer type batteries such as deep cycle AGM and gelled types. Using the wrong charger on an AGM or gelled type battery can quickly destroy them. These newer battery types require voltage limiting system regulation as they recharge. The old wet-cell un-sealed lead acid batteries are much more forgiving when it comes to higher charging voltages and amperage rates.

While my older charger was able to place a regulated 10 Amp charge rate at under the specified maximum voltage rate for an AGM battery, the best it could charge my Odyssey batteries was 80% before the voltage began to gradually creep up over the recommended AGM type maximum of 15 volts (an even lower voltage is required for gelled types). Sure, I could have just used the vehicle charging system as its voltage is regulated below 15 volts, but that would have meant many hours driving time not very cost effective at the price of gas today. Plus, my vehicles with AGM batteries are antiques and show vehicles I don't want to drive far.

Using my old charger to bring back that one AGM battery to only 80% was a royal pain in the rear, as I had to monitor the voltage as the battery charged and it took hours of watching for it to safely build the Odyssey battery back to 80%. The ten ampere charge rate stayed at around 14.5 volts until it neared 80% where it then began climbing above 15 volts if I didn't remove the charger. Any higher an ampere rate using this older charger would have resulted in an AGM battery destroying voltage of 18 volts on the old charger's 12 volt battery ampere switch positions. Oh, and for those wondering, I kid you not as my old industrial charger has always been a loud unit due to it's large internal fan. My ears were ringing from sitting there nearby with it running.

After spending a weekend day of that, I decided it was time to wait for the arrival of this new charger I had already decided I needed and ordered from the Amazon store. Okay, I read the manual before and after purchase pretty much standard stuff except you need to always connect the AC power cord after first connecting the charge cables, and to disconnect the AC power cord before removing the charging cables. It doesn't have a manual on/off switch. As they say on the DirecTV commercial, the rest was a "no-brainer".

I have a few years of electrical engineering experience (okay, many more than a few), so I decided to test a few things when I began using the Schumacher SC-10030A. First, I turned the vehicle headlights on for ten seconds to reduce any surface charge on the Odyssey battery I wanted to charge, and used an Amprobe digital meter to find the battery voltage was more or less stable at 12.54 volts just above 75%. I then connected the SC-10030A battery cables, and noted it showed 12.5 volts on its display after connecting the unit AC power cord. The display can also be changed by a simple left button press to show the approximate percentage of charge according to voltage. The center switch button controls battery type (default is AGM). The right hand button controls amperage per battery size, and the 100 Amp boost start. I pressed it once to get to the large battery setting (12-30 Amp automatic operation), from the default small battery setting (low 2 Amp amperage setting).

After connecting the SC-10030A, I checked it several times as it charged the AGM battery. The fan gives a low whine and comes on and off automatically as the unit heats and cools. There is nothing loud about this by any stretch of the imagination the fan on a 500 watt computer power supply is about the same. Once the unit read 13.5 volts for a short time, it soon cycled out of the automatic variable ampere charge rate and went into maintain mode. Using my digital amprobe again, I watched the amps of the maintain charge as they fluctuated from .17 to .28. That's an average of less than a quarter of an amp in maintain mode, and definitely not anything that could damage any AGM battery. An hour later, I looked again and saw those maintain mode amps were fluctuating from .15 to .22 Amps. Seeing these figures, I would have no problem leaving this charger connected and un-attended for a day or two as I know it would only build a battery back to its full remaining capacity (all batteries permanently lose capacity over time).

The case on this unit is hard plastic and fairly thick. The case handle has a nice strong feel and the charger appears sturdy. I found the cables were completely adequate but, while sturdy, the battery clamp handles are cheaply insulated and not what I would call heavy duty unlike the clamps on my old professional NAPA charger which can easily take the abuse of a truck driving over them. Still, they appear to be completely adequate for a charger of this unit's capabilities. Looking at the size of this unit out of the box, I was actually surprised to find it had more weight than I expected looking at it. I also saw the cable storage on the back of the unit was adequate as well. The LED display and other LEDs on the unit are also bright and easily seen. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this SC-10030A. Provided with reasonable care, I see no reason this unit shouldn't work reliably for many years. It does exactly what Schumacher has represented it to do, and the five year warranty reinforces how much faith they have in this product. One thing, follow the instruction manual especially if you intend to use it for boost starting.

At my age, there's yet another reason I like this charger so well other than its easy operation. It only weighs a little over 10 lbs. My old NAPA charger probably weighs 75 lbs. hard to move even if it is on wheels. One other notable thing this charger is about half the price of the comparable Odyssey recommended Odyssey charger also sold at Amazon. It has fewer features than the SC-10030A. It still makes sense to save a dollar where it counts especially when you get a much better product for the price!

Now on to the de-sulfate mode!

The Shumacher SC 10030A has a de-sulfation mode, but it is not continuous. Any interruption of power or unit settings will switch off this automatic mode as it only comes on by the sensing ability of the unit. Once a battery has a fairly good charge, this unit will not "sense" the need for further de-sulfation, and it then goes directly from "charge mode" into "maintain mode" skipping "desulfation mode". De-sulfation mode is noted by a flashing yellow "charging" LED instead of it staying solid during normal charging. Just don't expect to see it very often at all. De-sulfation mode can run up to 10 hours just don't interupt it or it probably won't re-initialize. BatteryMinder has better solutions for desulfation if you are more interested in this recovery type feature. The BatteryMinder 12151 and 12117 do full-time desulfation and can be left connected indefinitely to a good battery they also recover battery capacity very well.

CAUTION:

Do not operate loads such as car stereo equipment, etc., with this charger connected in "maintain mode". This charger will see the load and incorrectly raise voltages above 16 volts even while using the AGM or GEL settings. Chargers are not designed to power equipment even with a battery in the circuit.

Update 5/20/2011:

While I have used the unit a number of times now with zero problems, I noticed the fan became very loud when I used the charger to check a battery this evening. I decided to remove the four Phillips head screws that attach the cover to the rest of the unit and I took a look inside. It was nice to see the large copper wound transformer up close, but I noticed a few of the attached wires were out of place one had been pinched (a blue one) between the cover and the top of the transformer core, and some of the others (attached by female spade connector fittings to the transformer spade terminals) were interfering with the handle movement inside the case. This was an easy fix, but I was also surprised to notice several other of the female spade connection fittings were excessively loose on their transformer spade terminals. I simply crimped the female connectors gently with a pair of pliers and re-attached them to their spade terminal on the transformer, as there was no obvious damage or coloration that any type of heating would have caused that might have loosened them. My conclusion was the unit obviously had these terminals loose from the factory and they just hadn't caused any problem as yet. I also found it odd that the simple wiring position changes, I made, hadn't been made at the factory to eliminate any future use problem as it only required a single gentle looping in each of two of the wires, and slightly bending/positioning others out of the way of the handle area.

I couldn't see anything wrong with the tiny fan, but I used a white silicone spray and lubed it as best I could inside its bearing area after having removed it from the upper case. I couldn't help but notice the three screws holding it seemed overly tight (a fourth was noticeably absent but not present anywhere inside the case or in the factory box I keep my unit stored in), and I wondered why the fourth was obviously missing from the factory. I reinstalled the fan and lightly tightened the three screws evenly (no danger of the these screws coming out). I also made sure not to overtighten the four case screws at reassembly.

Once back together, I hooked the charger back up to the battery and plugged the power cord in. The fan was now back to its normal quieter self and the handle now slides in and extends out without any interference and yes, the unit performed just as well as always. I couldn't say if all units get assembled this shoddy from the factory, but it wouldn't hurt to carefully check inside if your fan suddenly gets louder for no reason or if the handle appears to be interferred with by something inside the case. While in there I would also gently wiggle the transformer connections and carefully tighten any female spades that appear excessively loose. I'm sure I just added years to the life of my unit, but I shouldn't have needed to do these things on what is a brand new unit.

The unit does most everything well as it should and I could have simply returned it for repair. But, it was easier for me to just do this correctly myself than shipping it off and waiting for its return. Who knows, some of the same small problems might still have existed after being sent back and returned. I mean, it did come that way from the factory. Anyway, my look inside showed me the components look well designed for the price and opening the case isn't difficult.

I had another electronic style charger, purchased a few years ago from Sam's Club. Not bad, just not durable and it gave up the ghost...

I was referred to Schumacher by some friends in the auto repair business and wanted a unit that was reliable and was versatile, charging different types and sizes of batteries. We have a vehicle and a motorcycle that doesn't get used regularaly and I needed to be able to top off various batteries.

1st impressions, this thing is HEAVY compared to other brands! Not a big surprise since I have to assume they use a more robust transformer than other brands.

On the flip side, the battery leads are lighter and smaller than I would have expected. They work great and since Schumacher has been doing this for quite a few decades, I'm sure they will work well for the long haulI just expected larger gauge wires and larger clips. As a plus, the smaller clips actually are easier to connect to various batteries, especially if they are still installed (motorcycle).

Other surprise is this thing is loud, with a constant hum when plugged in. It is normal based on the transformer, but it is different than the cheaper chargers out there. This is not a bad thing, just a little different.

I have already used this charger on a truck battery and a couple smaller batteries with no problems. It works as advertised and quickly. I like the fact that it will automatically charge then shift to a float charge mode and includes a desulfide mode if needed. Since some of my stuff sits (bike and lawn mower) the desulfide function is great to recover a battery. Haven't tested the start function and likely won't but it's there if needed...

Overall, pleased and would buy again.

Have a diesel truck that is setting most all the time. Over a long period of time the alarm system and other gadgets drained the battery. Was probably this way for many weeks. Not good for a battery at all. This truck has a diesel that requires two batteries to start. After recharging the batteries many times with another non-automatic charger and a smaller version of this charger, they would not take a full charge and trip out the smaller charger/maintainer. This charger, Schumacher SC-10030A SpeedCharge Automatic Charger and Maintainer, has a de-sulfation mode for batteries that suffer this type of trauma. Over night, about 12-14 hours later the battery finally accepted a full charge. I verified this by using the same smaller maintenance/ maintainer battery charger that continually tripped out. Once I had a fully charged battery, I installed the smaller maintainer, and it turned green indicating a full charge and now maintains the batteries..

Two problems. 1) this charger in my opinion is too large to be a maintainer / conditioner. It does the job but has a fan that goes on and off. Probably uses too much electricity. 2) When ever the charger goes into maintain mode, it sets off my remote controlled alarm system on the truck. I had to put the truck alarm on valet to prevent this.

looked at several products and prices and this prouct gave me the most options that I neeed for the best price. Plus helps to protect my battery from being damaged because I forgot to turn the charger off when it was fully charged and begins to boil. Plus I still have some 6 volt battery systems around. This charger had the most options at the best price and a name you can depend on.

I put the charger into service the day I got it and was pleased with the speed with which it charged the battery of my car. I like the fact that you can see the on-going charging percentage and thus get a good idea of how long it will take to complete the charge. Another good attribute is the fact that this device doesn't have any air vent slits cut into the top of the case which would otherwise make it susceptible to getting shorted out. This is what in fact happened to my Craftsman charger. While using it one day, it began to snow unexpectedly and by the time I remembered that the charger was sitting alongside the car instead of under the hood, some snow had gotten into the air vents on top of the unit, landed on the open circuit board inside and proceeded to short it out. On a less than positive not but not a critical issue, is the fact that the unit came with the front sticker which displays the information for the various functions out of alignment and was actually causing some of the function lights to be partially covered up. All-in-all, though I'm please with the product and feel that I got a good value for the price and it does meet my expectations.

PowerFilm 10 Watt Foldable Solar Panel Charger

PowerFilm 10 Watt Foldable Solar Panel ChargerI have been trying out Solar Chargers for the past 6 plus months. Interest in solar charges grew from wanting to be prepared for emergencies. The electronic devices that I have are powered through AA, AAA, and USB sources. Therefore, my focus was on finding a solar charger that can power one or any combination of the three. This is the review of the PowerFilm 10-Watt Foldable Solar Charger.

Starting with some basic information for this charger, the product comes with the PowerFilm 10-Watt Foldable Solar Charger, one PowerFilm's RA-2 12 Volt Female Cigarette Lighter Adapter, a very basic instruction foldout, and everything is contained in a cardboard box. I appreciate the cardboard box as it does not waste space and is perfect size for efficient storage. It fits snugly around the charger which when folded, is approximately 10 1/2 inches long and 4 inches wide. The solar charger itself appears very durable and its build quality is excellent. It has a thin and flexible solar film encased in a UV protection layer, and it is stitched into durable nylon material. The manual instructs that if the solar charger becomes wet or submerged, it should continue to work after given some time to dry.

The solar charger was able to successfully charge my iPhone 3GS with different car adapters. With the iGo car charger and different levels of sunlight (direct-indirect, peak-off peak, etc.), I was able to charge the iPhone at a rate of 10% charge for every 14 minutes. This is fast when compared to different chargers that have been tested, especially among other solar and portable chargers. I never drain my iPhone completely, so actual trial times for a complete charge is not available.

Another great positive to this charger is that I am able to utilize my Sanyo Eneloop USB AA/AAA Charger attached to a Scosche USB car adapter. This provides the ability to charge AA and AAA rechargeable batteries. The Sanyo Eneloop USB Charger instructions states that it would require two hours to charge AAA batteries and four hours to charge AA batteries. The charge time was consistent whether it was connected to my MacBook or the Solar Charger.

Being rated at producing 15.4 volts with 0.6 amps, the PowerFilm 10-Watt Foldable Solar Charger is not likely to charge a power hungry item, such as a laptop computer, on its own. However, these panels can be connected in parallel with combined output of up to 20 amps. PowerFilm also makes similar foldable solar panels that are rated at 20, 30, and 60-Watts.

Overall, I rate this PowerFilm 10-Watt Foldable Solar Charger a 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. This solar charger meets all of my needs with great success. I am now able to power my AA and AAA rechargeable batteries, USB devices, and other devices using car adapters. Plus the build quality is excellent, the necessary female adapter is included, and the packaging is great. I finally found the dependable, durable, compact, and lightweight source of solar power that I have been searching for in case of emergencies.

I took this item into the woods for 2 weeks, and was able to charge my smartphone enough to keep up with facebook and sms for a few minutes in the evenings. Never got a full charge. What's up with the 5 star rating for something that only charged enough for 20 minutes of data usage? How is that possible?

Easy. No direct sunlight. The best sunlight I could find was dappled. Constant haze in the sky (humid east coast forest), with lots of clouds some days. In other words, horrible conditions for solar panels.

It still worked.

Fantastic product, puts up with a lot of abuse. You can drape it over a bush, or hang it from a tree, or off the side of your tent. It's light, folds up small, and doesn't care about getting damp.

I would recommend getting a charge controller, though. I didn't, and I think my results would have been much better with a decent charge controller. I don't think the blocking diode blocks 100% of the current flow, because the panel would (slowly!) drain the phone's battery if it was in the evening shade for too long.

A 10W panel is WAY OVER CAPACITY for a smart phone (I have the HTC G1, Google's first Android phone). I would NEVER hook this panel directly up to my phone in full, direct, clear sunlight without a charge controller! However, considering the conditions, I just used the car charger for my phone and plugged it directly into the panel and it worked great.

Buy PowerFilm 10 Watt Foldable Solar Panel Charger Now

I bought this panel as a convenient way to keep gadgets charged while away from civilization. The unit is smaller than I imagined, and seems very rugged. The solar panels themselves are a heavy duty flexible plastic film and are glued and stitched to the nylon fabric. The whole assembly has four grommets in the corners which I'm sure will come in very handy. In the package is a cable with the panel connector on one end and a female 12v cigarette lighter socket on the other; if you have gadget chargers that plug into your vehicle's 12v power socket you're good to go. I only wish PowerFilm offered a dual 5V USB port charger cable with integrated charge controller, for the increasing number of gadgets that charge via USB. Instead, I picked up a Griffin PowerJolt Dual at the local Wally-world, which works great.

So far I've only been able to test it in the back yard, but I'm very happy with it. In full sun (2:00pm, September 24, Northern California, 86 degrees F) my meter initially read 19+ volts. Voltage seemed to drop slowly as the panel heated up. In complete shade, under the porch, the panel still put out 12.2 volts.

I had a very good experience with PowerFilm support via email. I would definitely recommend this product, and will probably buy another in the future.

Surprise #1: I bought my F16-600 10W solar panel charger from Amazon for a steal at 109 dollars on sale (Powerfilm was the seller).

Surprise #2: The item pictured in the description was the black one but I ended up getting a military grade version (camouflage canvas). NICE!

Surprise #3: It came with a female cigarette lighter adapter! Despite the description failing to mention this bonus I'm lucky I didn't almost spring for Amazon's "buy together with RA-2 cigarette lighter adapter for..."

Now for a quick review of the product itself. IT ROCKS! The end.

Seriously, I used this last weekend over a camping trip for 4 days. The first day was mostly cloudy and the solar panel barely produced enough current to charge my Samsung Focus Windows Phone. The second day was partly cloudy and with Seattle area sunbreaks it managed to charge my smartphone in 5 hours. The next day full sun and it charged it in 2 hours. Remember, the charging time depends on the charger itself.

Let's talk numbers now. I measured the voltage and it was as advertised coming in higher than 15.4 volts. On an overcast day it measured 50 milliamps. That's not enough to charge a smartphone. When the sun comes out it produces a strong 600+ milliamps.

Just for kicks I connected a 12 volt fan and you can tell that it runs full speed in the sun. When a cloud passes or a shadow blocks the solar charger then the fan dies.

One challenge with cloudy days is that depending on the device and the charger you might have an issue with these frequent disruptions of electricity. For example, on a smartphone when it gets power the screen turns on. This frequent disruption actually causes the device screen to turn on often and drains more from the battery each time causing the opposite effect.

I'd really like to charge some AA or AAA batteries but I can't seem to find a good battery charger that also provides USB power to devices.

The durability seems good so far. I'm a little concerned on the hottest day when the sun beat down hard on those cells and it looks like one of them might be coming off the stitching. I'll report back for sure if there is a quality issue. I have to admit, it's too soon for me to review this product.

Used this during the electrical grid failure we had after the April tornados in Huntsville Alabama. Used it to charge cell phones, kindle, portable tv, and a bunch of enloop AA bateries over a period of 5 days. Folds up to a small and very lightweight package, small enough to fit inside a mens shaving kit I use to store it and 12-batteries, 2-headlamps, 1-AA flashlight, a 4-cell battery charger and assorted 12v and USB adapters cables. Great product well worth the money.

Kindle Fire PowerBolt Duo USB Car Charger with USB Cable by Kensington

Kindle Fire PowerBolt Duo USB Car Charger with USB Cable by KensingtonKensington makes excellent products. This Powerbolt Duo car charger is no exception. This Kensington car charger is good for charging the Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle Fire, and it comes with a micro USB cable for the Fire, but it costs $30.

The Kindle Fire requires an electrical charging current of 1.8 A (1800 mA), so only chargers meeting current output of more than 1.8 A can charge it in reasonable amount of time. Many chargers on the market have output current of 2.1A. Make sure you see this specification on the product page. Kensington, Skiva, and Scosche all make car chargers that meet the 2.1 A requirement but are much more expensive.

The least expensive is by AmazonBasics, under $10.

AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black)

You also need a micro USB cable (for charging and data transfer):

AmazonBasics USB Cable 2.0 A Male to Micro B (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters), $6

This is the kind of cable (USB 2.0 on one end and micro USB on the other) that some reviewers were saying that Amazon should have included in the Fire box. It is used for charging if the connection is between the Fire and a USB charger, or copying files from your computer to the Fire and vice versa, if the connection is between the Fire and your computer.

This charger has two USB ports that share the 2100 mA output, so if you want fast charging, use just one port to charge the Fire/iPad, and leave the other not used by anything else.

This combo costs $16, about half the cost of the Kensignton.

I would only recommend the Kensington if you want to charge the Fire or iPad AND another USB device that consumes less than 1.0 A SIMULTANEOUSLY and don't want to sacrifice charging time. Physically, the Kensington is smaller and also well-made.

The other two reviews don't say much of anything other than negative stuff so I am going to tell you about the good stuff. I ordered this for my first Kindle. No it is not black like the picture or at least mine is not. Mine is white. It does work nicely when I have been in a crunch to charge my Kindle while traveling in the car. No it's nothing fancy that needs to cost a ton of money! Amazon has provided a good product for charging the Kindle. I hope this helps anyone they may want to purchase. It really does work!

With my Kindle Fire, the more I learn how to use its extensive capabilities, the more I find use for a package of accessories, like the USB connector. I have transferred files from my laptop in a flash. Then there is the car recharger. Now I can go anywhere and keep my Fire ready for reading ebooks or for checking email as well as the entire web. Good accessories. I also recommend a good quality cover to protect the glass in a Fire or any other portable device, and on the Fire, earbuds bring the music or the sound in a movie to you clearly without disturbing others.

New All Channel Wireless Mini Rapid Automobile Car Charger Cigarette Lighter + FM Radio Adapter Tra

New All Channel Wireless Mini Rapid Automobile Car Charger Cigarette Lighter + FM Radio Adapter Transmitter /Modulator For Apple iPod / iPhone / iTouch 3G, & 3G S / Nano / Classic / Touch / Video MP3 player, -LCD Display,Black
  • Uses very little power from your device
  • High fidelity, stereo, digital PLL for highest sound quality
  • No batteries needed
  • Supports portable iPhone 3G/3GS, iPod Nano1~5G, iPod Video, iPod Classic, Touch, MP3, MP4 etc.
  • This unit charges your device when connected to the CAR Charger adapter

I bought this transmitter because my cd player broke and I got tired of only listening to radio programming. Now, let me go straight to the point... this little receiver works just great with my iPhone 4s, and you also get a cigarette lighter charger in the same box. Now, as for the performance, I had to check different frequencies until I got the most clear reception, It definitely works better if your iPhone/iPod is the closest to the car radio, you will have to find your best frequency, I recommend one where no radio station transmits so you can have an "empty" channel. And last, you will notice some sonic different in your music, I mean, it won't sound as it comes from a cd or aux wired input, since it transmits the signal and then is captured by your radio receiver, it actually sounds as if played by a radio station, still is a great and cheap option for having your playlists on the go! It was a great deal!

The one who left negative feedback must have received a damaged product. I previously had a Monster iCar Play and it worked for several years...however, it was limited to only 2 FM channels. It finally died and I ordered this one because you can program it to ANY channel and it is a fraction of the cost of the Monster iCar Play. I LOVE IT! It works great, the display is clear and the sound is perfect (without having to squeeze the transmitter). I highly recommend this transmitter.

This transmitter works just as well as the other more expensive models I've purchased. It is slightly bulky where you plug it in but I can live with that with the amount I saved when the others kept breaking anyway.

My sister bought some $30 name brand thing and it didn't work at all. I bought this very inexpensive one and it's sweet. Just take a minute to find the right station and it'll work fine. Sound quality is actually better as you turn the volume up. You don't lose any bass or power or anything.

Before I ordered this I read the reviews and saw that there were a lot of people that had a problem with it, but I ordered it a few weeks ago (curiosity got the best of me, and for this price I couldn't go wrong) and got it quickly and it works great. My husband and I have both have a Droid Incredible 2 and this fits perfectly in them, some reviews said it didn't fit tightly. Also some reviews said that there is no way to wind it back up unless you pull it out a specific way, but that is not true there is a button on it that quickly winds it back up. It also fits perfectly into the adaptor in the car, we didn't have to adjust it once. For the price you can't ask for anymore than the product is, it works just fine. I'm not saying it will last forever but again it's incredibly cheap so even if we can get a year or two out of it, we will have for sure gotten our moneys worth.

Stanley USB4 4 in 1 Back Up Power Supply and Charger

Stanley USB4 4 in 1 Back Up Power Supply and ChargerI bought this on an Amazon Lightning Deal so I got a slight discount on the price you probably see now. I also own the XtremeMac InCharge Portable rechargeable battery pack with built-in wall charger for iPhone, iPad & iPod IPU-ICP-11 which I got a long time ago at a much cheaper price. This Stanley device is much worse than the XtremeMac charger.

This charger doesn't last long. It won't even last long enough to fully charge my iPhone 4S. It also makes a high pitch sound while plugged in to the wall.

The benefits to it are that the electrical plugs fold into the back of the product for slimmer storage. It also includes a built in light which is not powerful at all. It is small in size which is nice too.

Overall, I would not recommend this product. I'd suggest spending a little more to get one with a longer battery life.

This little charger has folding prongs and is perfect for travel. The USB ports do not supply enough current to charge an iPad, unfortunately, but it will charge an iPhone 4 and a bluetooth headset simultaneously without problems.

It also contains a battery that charges when plugged into a 110/240AC outlet (it is world-compatible) or into a USB port via the special cable provided. Here I think Stanley should have instead fitted the device with a standard microUSB port; if you lose the cable, it won't be easy to replace. Then again, most people will charge the battery through the mains, so it's not a major issue.

The top of the device features two flat buttons, one to turn on the power or check the battery levels (a 5-bar green LED display indicates the charge), and the other turns on a bright white LED located between the two USB ports.

Unfortunately, the battery capacity could be better; in my informal tests, it was only able to refill my iPhone 4 by about 70 to 75%. Still, that's usually all you need to get you out of a pickle, but twice that capacity would make it a really great device.

PROS

----

small size

folding prongs

charges two devices at once

built-in battery

built-in flashlight

CONS

-----

charging through USB requires non-standard cable (supplied)

battery capacity is not that great

makes a light buzzing sound when plugged in

Should you buy this? I have to say that despite owning a large array of USB battery/charger devices, I still toss this one in my travel bag because it's so convenient and light. Perfect to give your phone a boost during a long plane flight, and once you get to your hotel, you can use it as a charger -and the flashlight comes in handy.

If your emphasis is on convenience vs. capacity, this is a great buy. If you need the largest possible capacity, you're better off with a USB battery that charges with an external charger.

Samsung Nexus S Multimedia Vehicle Dock with Car Charger Adapter - Car Kit - Retail Packaging - Bla

Samsung Nexus S Multimedia Vehicle Dock with Car Charger Adapter - Car Kit - Retail Packaging - BlackIn the product listings, and even on the back of the box for this Nexus S Vehicle Navigation Mount it boasts:

"FEATURES

Auto Detect: Automatically puts the Handset in Vehicle Menu Mode when Docked"!

No, it doesn't. I can see no way the phone would know it is docked, since the dock is just a passive piece of plastic, and there are no connectors between the dock and the phone. This seems to be like claiming that putting your phone in a plastic case will open Google Maps. So why is this 'feature' is advertised on the product box, yet there is no mention of it in the product user guide. This feature does not seem to exist.

Worse still, the side of the box shows a picture of the dock, with an arrow pointing to the back of the dock where the thumb-tightener is, boasting a wonderful:

"Integrated Micro USB Charging Port"!

Where is this "integrated port"? There is no such port. What there is, is a standard cigar charger cable bundled loose in the box. How is a loose cable "integrated"? How is a regular micro-USB charger plug an "integrated port"?

What it feels like is Samsung designed this product, then realized how bad it was, so made up some lies to put on the packaging. Sadly the end result is a very unhappy customer, and Samsung guilty of false advertising.

Even worse is although the thick plastic is matte, it is a reflective matte, so it reflects up onto your windscreen, obscuring your view of the road. Great! Hey Samsung, ever tried driving in a sunny place like LA with this thing?

Finally, the beveling joint has an extremely small range of motion, so much so that I could not find any suitable location in my car, except one that left the phone screen facing the ceiling. Unbelievable.

Do not buy this product, you will be sorely disappointed. I recommend the Nexus S Active Dock from ProClip, which does have a real, actual, "integrated charging port".

Granted, the word "Dock" in the title is wrong. It is not a dock but a holder.

As a holder, it is excellent. It firmly sticks to the window but still comes off easily if you flip the lever. There's a knob that you can turn to unlock the plastic part that embraces the phone to adjust its orientation. The knob is in convenient position and you only need to turn it a bit to unlock. Once locked, the whole thing is rigid and holds the phone reliably. I have another holder where the mechanism is not that good and slowly follows gravitation and you have to readjust every 100 miles or so. Not so with this one: I used the Nexus S as GPS device for thousands of miles and this holder fully satisfied me.

The plastic part that holds the phone has another lever behind to release it. So you can take it off and it works like a protector for your phone. I found it to be very comfortable to do this. It does require some practice so you until you're able to get it off because this lever is somewhat obstructed. If you know where it is it works very well.

The only thing that sucks a little about this holder is when you try to take the phone out of it. There's yet another lever that's supposed to let the phone come off easily but that's a bad joke. I always end up prying open the two edges at the phone's top. This works OK, but you need two hands and it's not an elegant, quick movement. Also it requires some practice so you don't push the buttons on the phone or touch the display.

For less then 20 Dollars this is a definitive buy.

Buy Samsung Nexus S Multimedia Vehicle Dock with Car Charger Adapter - Car Kit - Retail Packaging - Bla Now

Works well as a mount, the design of the base is a nice way to hide the suction cup latch means. As a plus it does include the power supply. The dock doesn't offer any charging connection like certain docks do (think Nexus One or some of the Droid branded docks from Motorola) so you'll have to plug the power in each time. But for $18 or so it's not a bad deal.

The main thing I don't like is that it's hard to get the phone in and out sometimes. Might be the way you have to hold it but I've yet to get it to go smoothly, essentially you're snapping the phone in to place in the dock.

The box clearly states that the phone will go into 'car mode' when docked but it is absolutely not the case! I understood this from reading the reviews before buying but it's still a damn shame.

That said it suctions great on any flat surface, the phone is held in tightly and it's not too difficult to pop in or out. Wish it was a little more integrated like actually putting the phone into car mode and having the connectors for charging and audio actually be part of the holder so I don't have to manually plug it in and out every time but it works.

I have a Sprint Nexus S 4G phone. The mount is wonderful. Extremely easy to get the phone in and out. The phone does not vibrate while in the mount. Unfortunately, Samsung screwed everything up by including an under powered car charger. The Samsung car charger has a power output of 700mA. When the phone's GPS and WiMAX radios are on at the same time the charger can't keep up. I used Google Navigation for a short 5 mile trip. The phone's battery level dropped from 96% to 82% while plugged into the charger. This phone requires a charger with a minimum power output of 1,000mA. As if Samsung's false advertising on the box about the mount's capabilities wasn't bad enough.
