I like that the cord is retractable so that it doesn't dangle and get in the way. The only thing you have to be careful about is that the charger is fully inserted into the power outlet (check to see that the charging light is on). If it's just a little loose, you can't necessarily tell and you'll find out that the phone hasn't been charging at all.

I bought two of these chargers-one for me and one for my daughter. BOTH stopped working after 11 months of limited use. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Coincidence or planned obsolescence?? The latter I believe.

Two years later, after light use, it's done. Will no longer charge. Probably because the cord is coming apart at the base of the plug.

One year later...actually it's been a little over a year, but we've had a problem that we noticed quite some time ago, so probably after a year of use. The connections are weak. The end you plug into your phone catches on the casing as it's retracting, so it slowly weakened the cord. It's starting to crack a little, so be careful not to fully retract the cord into the casing.

Also, it gets finicky sometimes and doesn't want to charge certain phones (we use this for a couple different ones in the family that all use the same charger (woohoo)). It will randomly quit charging so you have to unplug and plug it in again to get the juice flowing. It annoys the crap out of my husband, but I figured it comes with the territory when you buy a $5 charger. If you want something that is going to work perfectly, this is probably not for you.

Original review: I recently bought this and so far all seems good. I really like the retractable feature. Lets you pull the cord out only as much as you need and stays put. Also, there's a little button to push and the cord is gently pulled right back into the compartment (rather than snapping back in violently...one year later, apparently it does not have to snap back violently to do damage to the charger). Only thing is that I can't see the recharge light because of the way my car is, but that's no big deal because my phone beeps to let me know it's plugged in to charge. I would definitely recommend this!

Worked well for 6 months then died. It wasn't expensive but I hoped it would have lasted longer than 6 months. It was one of the few retractable chargers that worked with my older phone (razr flip) so I've ordered another one.

I've owned this over 2 years and thought the low ratings were very unfair. I've used this on 4-5 different phones with no issues. It's a great car charger. If you want a quick charger, that will limit the longevity of your battery, then buy something else. I thought the thin cord might break at some point, but I've not had any issues and it helps that I can just retract it easily and keep it from tangling in the shifter. I bought it specifically because I didn't want a high output car charger and it's worked perfectly for a long time.

I used my vehicle charger for about two weeks. One day while using it in my car, I went to pick my phone up and the part that connects to the phone just came off inside my phone. I had some difficulty trying to remove the piece from the inside of my phone but I did. Otherwise I would not have been able to charge the phone with another charger. I purchased this item a couple of months ago despite the single one-star review that was then published. I'm glad I did. It works like a charm. I use it on a marine battery to keep it ready to go for use with my canoe trolling motor. I was concerned that it might draw power when it was not actually topping off the battery. It doesn't. When I check on it from time to time I pick it up to determine whether it is warm, like the charger on my laptop. It is always cool. It is truly automatic. It's compact, light and simple to use. At first I used the alligator clamps that came with it, but then I switched to the ring leads that are also included. They are a more secure option. I don't see how you beat this charger for the price.

I tried 2 of these chargers and both were defective, in each case there was no output and the red status lamp did not illuminate even when I purposely tried to charge a known bad battery. I have 2 other inexpensive Walmart chargers that I use to maintain the batteries in my motorcycle and streetrod but I wanted to change to a trickle charger so that could not overcharge them. I've returned both units to Amazon and I will purchase another product brand. Amazon's return policy is great, so my advice is, always buy from them.

Warning: Although these battery chargers have only a 1.5 ampere output and will not begin charging unless they are connected correctly, you are connecting them to a battery which can provide up to 900 amps of current! Shorting the terminals of an automotive battery can cause a conductor as heavy as a screwdriver to explode! Furthermore, overcharging a battery with a fault not detected by a charger can cause the battery to explode! Sulphuric acid will burn your skin instantly and will blind you if you get it in your eyes! If you don't intend to read the several pages of safety instructions at the beginning of the manuals which come with all of these chargers then also buy the cigar lighter attachment listed on Amazon. All three chargers now use the same quick disconnect; I'm not sure about cigar lighter wiring.

Choosing a battery charger is a matter of personal preference and intended use. A 45 AH battery that has been run dead will take over 30 hours with a 1.5 amp charger at best and more likely twice that to fully charge that battery... if it can be charged at all; for that you will need a big charger. Note: Charging lead acid batteries at high charge rates (over 1.5 amp) is not recommended. This review only addresses small chargers designed to keep a battery from becoming discharged while it is in long term (10 days or more) storage. At least one manual says that a large capacity battery may have its life reduced by charging with the low current these chargers supply; that pertains to all small chargers [Storage Battery Maintenance & Principles, US DOT 1998 pp 3 & 10].

Schumacher 1.5 amp battery `maintainers' will restore a discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) at a relatively high rate (almost as fast as a 5 amp unregulated charger because the charge rate of all high current chargers fall off quickly as the battery voltage rises), hence the name "SpeedCharger". After charging the battery to approximately 14.8 volts the Schumacher turns off and monitors the voltage. (A fully charged battery will measure 12.6 volts after an hour of `rest'; a fully discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) will read 11.4 volts.) Once the Schumacher detects that the battery voltage has fallen below 12.6 volts it reverts to maintenance mode until the battery is fully charged. Note: 12.2 volts is about 50% discharged and 11.4 volts is just about dead (there isn't much difference in the voltage reading between a fully charged and fully discharged battery). Since all lead acid batteries `self-discharge' over time, periodic low current maintenance charging has been an accepted way to maintain storage batteries in optimum condition for 100 years [Witte pp 66 & 287, Filiquarian 2012]. The Schumacher automatically detects whether it is connected to a 6 or 12 volt battery. Our Schumacher restored a battery that only measured 12.2 volts after two days charging with a 10 amp charger to 12.7 volts.

Deltran 1.5 amp (not the .75 amp Jr which we just bought) battery `tenders' will restore discharged batteries in the same length of time as the Schumacher and faster than all trickle chargers (we have all types of chargers in use, some for over 40 years). Deltran (including the Jr) uses Yuasa's philosophy for maintaining the battery after it is fully charged, lowering the charging rate to 10 milliamps (almost nothing). At that low rate the battery will not lose electrolyte [Witte pp 151, Filiquarian 2012]. Deltran lists 3 modes: bulk (charging), absorbtion (probably refers to desulphation) and float (green LED solid). The red LED flashes briefly while it is testing the battery. The Deltran Jr is nice for maintaining batteries in vehicles which are used once a week it is a large power `cube' with a very long DC cord. I used cable ties for both sides of the quick disconnect in case I forget to unplug it... it just pops off as I back out of the garage. I really like the red flashing light when the Deltran Jr. is plugged in but not connected to the car.

The Yuasa 1.5 amp SmartShot has a metal case. A switch selects 6 or 12 volt and, like the other chargers, it will not work if connected backwards or set to the wrong voltage. Note: None of these chargers will work with rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries; I'm not sure about any other rechargeable batteries. Yuasa (mine says Interstate Batteries) has 5 stage charging technology: testing flashing yellow LED (I like that), charging solid yellow, desulphation stage (I'm guessing), completed/float mode green LED. I guess the 5th stage is if the battery fails the testing stage flashing red. That's where Yuasa gets the name SmartShot. I've used two of these for 8 10 years.

Sulphation is an issue that might come up when buying a small charger. The Deltran, Schumacher and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers will keep sulphation to a minimum. `Soft' sulphation always occurs normally in automotive batteries. A low current charge rate is known to control normal sulphation [Witte pp 49 & 53, Filiquarian 2012]. Hard sulphation cannot be corrected without extreme measures; trade in the battery.

Wattage of the The Schumacher, Deltran and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers is less than 20 watts when charging and 3 5 watts connected but not charging. (Don't be confused by the 10 milliamp output of the Deltran device; that is on the DC side not the input.) Connecting a timer with a 6 watt clock motor to turn the charger off and on doesn't make sense; it uses more electricity than an idling chargers.

Trickle Chargers like our 1 amp Goodyear draw 12.5 watts continuously while connected to an old battery; so we usually use that one on a night-light timer. It had been charging a used backhoe battery (to keep it from dying in case the new one fails) for two months and though it wasn't apparently boiling off the electrolyte when the top of the battery was damp I disconnected it. FYI only water evaporates from batteries; sulphuric acid in a fully charged battery is almost all bound to the plates; plus the boiling point is above 600 F. The specific gravity (the only way to know for sure) of that 8 year old battery measures 12.5; so even though the voltage measures 12.6 volts it isn't taking a full charge. (A fully charged lead acid has a specific gravity 12.65 when fully charged.) Don't use trickle chargers on good batteries without daily monitoring.

Easy to assemble, just plug in the proper connectors. It comes with ring lug connectors as well as the big clamps, which aren't all that big.

I bought it to maintain the battery in small two seat convertable that I don't drive as often as I should. Alas, to get to the battery, I have to open the trunk which turns on the trunk light, using up much of the charger's output. Haven't figured out an easy way to keep the light off. So it doesn't charge much, should have bought a bigger unit. My bad. I could charge through the 12 volt accessory outlet (cigarette lighter) except that turns off when the key is removed.

I did contact Yuasa with a question by email, they got right back to me with an answer. If the battery to be charged is very low (mine was) the charger won't do anything. Needed to use a big brute force charger to get the battery up near 12 volts before this unit would activate. Manual doesn't mention that. And the unit gave no indication other than the charge LED being off.

So, not perfect but still useful.

I bought this inverter to power a laptop computer while in any of our vehicles and it serves the purpose very well. I like the design which goes well with my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite M645). It's very light, slim enough to easily fit in a laptop case, has a power led to let you know its on and not only plugs into a standard 12V accessory port in a vehicle but also can be used on a plane (check first to see that your seat has a power outlet). It also has over/under voltage protection (shuts off in either case) and is the only one I found that can actually deliver 175 watts of power (not just the temp surge wattage). Granted I haven't actually put that to the test, but all of the other inverters I looked into in this class delivered less continuous power if you read the fine print. If I find out different with this one, I'll edit this review (and I'll also be in touch with PowerBright as this is what they advertise...).

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that the outlet does not grip the AC plug from the device very securely. Its good enough as long as you don't pull on the cord which you shouldn't do anyway. Otherwise its a very nice product and I would recommend it to anyone with a similar need.

This is my first inverter from Power Bright, but I have to say, I'll be a repeat customer. I use this little guy to run an air pump that draws something like 174 Watts, just under the max. And that pump runs for maybe 15 minutes straight to fill up my giant float. Usually in the hot sun. This little engine-that-could has never skipped a beat. I admit I was surprised how hardy this thing is given its tiny footprint. Uploaded a picture of it next to an iPhone 4 for a size comparison (the stock photo looks like a 100 photoshoped to look bigger).

The only negative thing i have to say about it is that the chords that come with it are short and seem a little cheap. But that's a nit since the unit is quality.

I did some research and really liked the size and style of this item. When it arrived, it worked great. It rode around in the car, sometimes in use and sometimes not in use, for 2.5 months. Yesterday I tried to use it and found out that it was completely dead. No fan, no lights, nothing. I don't know what might have caused it to stop--I'd been out of town for a month and the car with the unit was parked in the garage. I'm really disappointed because I liked it up until yesterday. I'm inclined to go back to a Black and Decker unit that we've had for quite a while and used in the other vehicle.

This radio is well worth the money. I have owned it over a month now and im very impressed with it so far. Mine had a broken LED flashlight on arrival but it didn't bother me since i dont need it. I carry a flashlight for my job.

Since the radio is dual band and dual monitor i listen to my favorite 2m repeater while on my work repeater that just switched to narrowband on the 70cc.

If you get this radio please do yourself a favor and GET THE USB PROGRAMING CABLE with it or you will pull your hair out. Manual programing is very hard since all

I got one of these a few months ago as a starter amateur radio, after receiving my license. The interface is kinda quirky, so I suggest also getting the programming cable. There are plenty of people in the UV-5R Yahoo group to help navigate. This model from this vendor has the latest firmware, 293. I use this to connect to the local amateur VHF and UHF repeaters, and I am able to use it as a scanner to listen to NOAA, local police, and the news via broadcast FM stations. Like all handhelds, you'll want a better antenna, but the built-in one works well enough to get you started. For the visually-impared, this radio will speak the menu items to let you know where you are. Unless you want to spend a lot on a more expensive radio, like the Yaesu VX-7R, this radio is super-awesome for the price, and can't recommend it enough for HAMs new and old.

Xantrex Power Inverter - 1800 Watt, Model# XM 1800

I had one of these professionally installed in my boat 4 years ago.

Just this weekend, I replaced it for the 4th time (total of 5 inverters)

The 110volt pass-through, which was one of the features that attracted me to this product keeps failing leaving me with no 110 volt service. Strangely enough, the inverter portion still worked.

While all but one of these replacements was provided under warranty, there was still expense involved in installing the replacements and loss of products that were stored in the refrigerator which stopped working when the inverter died, even when plugged into shore power.

I evaluated the prospects of changing to a different product, but the cost involved in a) buying the replacement, and b) having it installed, as the boat would have to be rewired to support a different product caused me to stay suffering with this one. I have 100% expectations that I will continue to have to replace this unit.

When it works, it works fine, but you never know when it is going to fail.

The tech support at Xantrex stinks. I have called and emailed many times asking for info about WHY this unit keeps failing, never got a response. On a positive note, they never gave me a hard time about replacing it, which leads me to believe that they KNOW what is wrong with it, and don't want that to get out.

Car Charger for Verizon Apple iPhone 4 (Black)

Once again impressed with the fast delivery and the ease of ordering. But the product does not work. I took the charger out to the car, unplugged the one I had been using and plugged in this new charger. The charger showed that it was getting 12 volts, but when it was connected to the iphone 4 it appeared the phone was not getting any voltage for charging. Also, the connector fit loosely into the iphone 4 and when I looked closer, the connector did not appear to even have the same design connection characteristics. I think the connector was for a different type phone where you need the metal legs on the ends of the connector to positively connect (latch) to some phone, but not the iphone 4. Once I noticed it did not work, I plugged the charger I had been using and the iphone 4 popped up showing the green bar as the phone was charging. So, that just proved that the charger I had been using worked and the iphone 4 was able to to accept a charge. The charger that I had been using was not OEM equipment, but I paid $20 for it via buying it from a store from store and could test it right in the store before I walked out, so in this case, NON-OEM worked, but I could evaluate it before walking out of the store. Purchasing products for interconnecting devices can have many risks. I doubt I will buy from Amazon other devices like this, but right now I am waiting on Amazon to tell me how they will deal with this issue. When cheap does not work, it becomes expensive.

This is the second time that buy the product from them. Great services and fast delivery....

I set out to buy a cheap but functional charger when I purchased this one, and in that respect I am quite satisfied. The only downside to this product is that the connector is not *quite* long enough to charge the phone while the case is on. I have a relatively thin Belkin cover on my phone and I had hoped to be able to use the car charger without removing it. As it is, I just pop the bottom half of the phone out of the case and plug in the charger when needed. Otherwise this charger works perfectly! All in all, a good product with one small inconvenience.

I bought this charger as it stated it worked with Verizon iphone 4. It only charged for a few minutes. The charger does not fit into the phone correctly. This model is compatible with my GPS, but does NOT allow for traffic updates. I thought the 'Gomadic TipExchange Technology' would traffic update. Needless to say this 'Gomadic TipExchange Technology' does nothing like that. When I told the company that it wasn't what I thought it was they actually handled it great and were wonderful about the return. The product itself is a nice, well working product. I only take off 2 stars because it doesn't have the traffic updating device in the charger, but apparently only Garmin does. I bought this car charger for my iPad mini to use when we went on a driving trip. It only charged my iPad mini a couple times and then completely stopped working. I had to go to an AT&T store to buy a different one. The Sellnet car charger was inexpensive, so I don't know if I will even bother to return it. I read a lot reviews before buying it, and quite a few reviewers were happy with it. Maybe the one I bought was defective. I personally don't recommend buying it.
