my time one mor time.

It was cheap but not good.

I bought this about a year ago. Worked great until the other day. I love the way the cord retracts (nice and neat). Just yesterday the connection peice became loose and now wont charge phone. I used some crazy glue and hope that will work because I really like this charger.

Retractable Rapid Car Charger with IC Chip for Verizon HTC Touch Pro Smartphone

Retractable Rapid Car Charger with IC Chip for Verizon HTC Touch Pro SmartphoneI was very excited to get this product. I've always hated the traditional car phone charger with the curly pigtail-like long cord, so when i found this retractable mini usb charger, i quickly jumped at it.

I plugged in my phone (Tmobile G1), and saw the blue charge light turn on for the charger. I glanced at my phone, and was happy to note that the phone indicated that it was charging. So far so good. After about 2 min of charging, i reached my destination (food takeout place a few street down) and decided to unplug that's when i realized the charger was abnormally hot. I quickly uplugged it from my car outlet and had to drop it onto the rubber mat because the heat was unbearable to the touch. I wasn't sure exactly what happened, but i figured giving it 15 min to cool off is probably a good idea.

After i got home, i tried to plug in the charger again. the blue light went on again, so i assumed everything was all right. it wasn't till about 3 weeks afterwards when i tried to charge my phone again that i realized all was not right. apparently the light for the charger still turns on whenever i plug it into my car, but it no longer actually charges my phone anymore. my phone doesn't detect it anymore the charger just stopped working.

basically, i got to use this wonderfully designed car charger for a total of 2 min. I really like the design of this charger, and it's not like the build quality of this thing looked questionable. Maybe i just got unlucky. But i like the design so much that i'm contemplating giving it another go. What to do...

Belkin USB Charging Kit with Wall Charger and Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch (Black)

Belkin USB Charging Kit with Wall Charger and Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch
  • USB Car Charger
  • Charge Sync Cable
  • 3 Ft. AUX cable

The Belkin "charge & play kit" contains only the 3 items in the description. Buyers should be aware that while the included USB cable works with an OEM apple wall charger, this product does not actually contain a wall charger. It is compatible with iPod 4G, and iPhone 4/4s (personally tested with all 3 Apple products). The aux cable works without issue. Car charger displays a green light when plugged into the car. The reason for the neutral 3-star rating is due to a misleading product title. I will provide an updated rating and address product durability in a few months.

NEW BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE LITHIUM EVO2 12V 16 CELL MOTORCYCLE BATTERY,RED,500 AMPS

NEW BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE LITHIUM EVO2 12V 16 CELL MOTORCYCLE BATTERY,RED,500 AMPSBallistic Performance claims that these batteries have a capacity of 28 amp-hours, but the actual capacity is about a third of that. Based on the claims of the manufacturer, I foolishly purchased two of these batteries expecting to get at least 25 amp-hours out of each of them. After a good break-in period of 8 partial discharge / full recharge cycles (using the Ballistic Performance balance charger), the capacity of both batteries is around 9.5 amp-hours. This was measured with a Watts-Up meter during discharge, and the balance charger confirmed the results at the end of the charge. After 9.5 amp-hours of discharge (at 3.5 amps) the voltage was 10.3V and dropping fast, which indicates that they were, indeed, at the end of their capacity.

My battery died on my bagger and the dealer wanted $185 plus tax for a replacement. I decided to take a chance and try something new so I ordered this Lithium Ferrous Phosphate battery from Amazon (Mueller Motorsports). It arrived in 5 days and when I picked up the box I thought it was empty!! It only weighs 3 lbs! I was worried that it would be bouncing around in my battery tray since it is so much smaller and lighter so I cut up an old mousepad made of neoprene and lined the bottom of the battery tray with that. Then I used the packing foam that came with the battery to secure it in place and hold it from vibrating. So far I have 800 miles on it and it works good, but it takes a little while to get it to wake up in the morning, kind of like my wife ;)

All in all I think it is a good investment and the weight savings alone is really awesome. So far so good!!

Brunton Solaris Foldable Solar Power Array

Brunton 26 Watt Foldable Solar ArrayI like this panel, I like it a lot. Right now I use it to charge a all of my electronics. It folds up nicely, and doesn't weigh much. I agree with the other posters on the positive things about these panels.

These panels as individuals (not linked) are serving me and my teams very well in Iraq. We use them to power everything from MP3 Players and cell phones to advanced GPS tracking systems.

There's only one problem I have, and that is linking more than two panels together. The instructions and box say it can be done, and the box says it includes a linking cable, but there is nothing that says how. You are supposedly able to link up to three panels together, but I am unable to accomplish this no matter how I configure the cables. I've written directly to Brunton's service department for guidance, but after a month I've only gotten the read receipts from them. No answer so far. No one on any blog or forum can tell me how this is done. They are expensive, so finding someone that has bought more than one is rare.

All three panels came with the exact same cables, so I don't think I'm missing anything. There are two connection ports on each panel (it will charge two small items at the same time). As far as cables go you get one with clamps (like the kind that connects to a car battery), one female car cigarette lighter-style outlet, and another cable that has four adapters on one end and a single adapter (for plugging into the panel) on the other.

You have to use the four-ended cable to link panels. The problem is that when you plug the end with four ends into a panel there is no more room to plug in another cable. The two prongs sticking out of the sides prevent this.

Anyone with one panel could see what I mean. Try plugging both ends of your linking cable into your one panel, as would be the case on the middle panel in a series of three. Then consider how you would link three of them together.

I would love to hear from anyone that has accomplished linking more than two of these together.

Linking them together would allow us to power (real time) our field laptops and mini-satellites, we could even recharge our military satcom radio batteries. Unfortunately this isn't the case yet.

The panel is excellent and I like it a lot. I gave it a three star rating because it claims to be able to do something that it cannot (link three panels). The instructions are also lacking in this area. Brunton's customer service also leaves something to be desired, which should be your only negative consideration if you're buying only one.

Update:

I finally got a reply from Brunton concerning linking the panels. Here it is:

"To your question... The four-pronged linking cable can make the

connection between panels a bit tight. Admittedly, the design isn't the

best, but I've got three of our 26s here, hooked them up, and read

increased amperage. On the panels where you're forced to use both the

single and multi-tipped wire, I've found it's best to turn the four-tip

plug perpendicular to the flat ground, making it easier to fit the

single wire. I'll be the first to say it isn't pretty. It creates a

slight fold in the panel, and doesn't allow it to sit completely flat,

but it does make the connection, and since there's no solar receiver

over the output, it doesn't affect the efficiency.

As I said, the multi-prong cord isn't the best design. It's something

I'm trying to get them to change in the development department. Keep in

mind that hooking multiple panels together doesn't increase the total

voltage coming out of your last panel, but rather simply increases the

amperage. "

Update * Click on "See customer Image" underneath the main product pic to see what this looks like *

So I broke out my panels and gave it a try. Yes, by bending the panel you can make the two fit. This causes me some real problems. My initial intent was to take some cord and tie the panels down (using the nicely grommeted holes in each corner). I can't do this because the corner that's bent can't be tied down tightly. When I pull on the corner that's bent down (see pic), you can hear the plastic under strain. The four prong outlet tries to straighten out with no where to go, when you do this. I wouldn't want to tie the panel down tightly for fear of breaking something.

The answer to this of course is to make your own single male-male cable. In the rest of the email the service rep offered to send me some cables and cords that I could splice together.

One other thing I noticed is that the female cigarette outlet is completely smooth on the inside, there are no ridges or insets. Any male connector you insert into it will not "lock" into place. There is some resistance that will keep it from just falling out, but it doesn't take much to come loose. I don't think this would be a problem if the panel were laying flat. I imagine that if it were hung up the weight of some cables could cause it to come out. I've had no problems at all with powering any device using this outlet.

Update: * Added another image showing the hook up to an EEE ASUS*

I also own an Asus Eee PC 900 16G. One of the prongs on the four ended cable will fit directly into the laptop. It being such a small laptop the panel WILL run it real time while charging the battery (just like it was plugged into the wall).

According to Brunton the panel kicks out 26 Watts, and says it's at 12 Volts. This means that

12 Volts X 2.2 Amps = 26 Watts

(i'm rounding slightly up on the Amps)

The EEE ASUS Power pack says it has an output of :

12 Volts X 3 Amps = 36Watts

There's obviously a little play in here, but the Brunton panel is using the same Volts at less amps, so it's safe to plug it into your EEE PC. In testing this personally it did in fact run the laptop real time and charge the battery at the same time.

I would raise my review to four stars (I can't modify it), because the panel does do what it says it will do, but it has a design flaw that makes it hard to deal with.

4th Update:

For some reason all the pictures I uploaded months ago are now gone. I don't know if that's an Amazon thing, or what. I'll try to replace them.

Might as well say something about the panel....

It's been over a year and a half and it's still holding up, no problems with wear and tear. I'm very pleased.

I am a nature photographer, and spend significant intervals a long ways from a power outlet. I recently used this solar charger to keep lithium ion batteries charged for my digital camera. I am pleased to report that it works even better than specified. I was able to charge two Olympus BLM-1 batteries simultaneously, in a couple hours in sunny conditions and in six hours in cloudy conditions. Even when the temperature fell as low as 25 F, the charger worked just fine.

The units folds up into a small comparatively small bag. You wouldn't use it for ultralight backpacking, but it worked fine for me, and is comparatively light in relation to my camera gear. The charger got rained on, got mud splashed on it, and was stepped on my a small child, and survived it all just fine.

Sturdy, durable, portable, powerful and effective. Highly recommended.

(I saw one review complaining the unit wouldn't power a laptop computer. That's true. You'd need two. It won't power a refrigerator or a dishwasher, either. But if you need to charge batteries, this works great.)

Buy Brunton Solaris Foldable Solar Power Array Now

This is a very useful product. I've used it to power essentially any low-draw 12V equipment that I normally charge via my car's cigarette lighter. I live in Georgia (not a tremendously strong solar area) yet I was able to run anything I wanted to with moderate cloud cover. I used it today to charge my cell phone with a dead battery to full charge in less than an hour (as advertised). I haven't used it to charge my boat/auto battery yet but I have purchased the Brunton Solar Controller to utilize it. The panel is very easy to use and comes with multiple adapters. I'm not an electrician but I was able to open the box and use the product in less than five minutes. I'm excited to take it camping and on my boat. It's just a really, really useful product all the way around and comes with the Brunton name.

Read Best Reviews of Brunton Solaris Foldable Solar Power Array Here

I am a ham radio operator and I have been operating Picnic Table Portable all summer long from a city park in the middle of Chicago. I have added the Brunton 26 watt solar panel to my portable station and it has been a tremendous asset. It folds up into the size of a sheet of paper, and in full sun I am able to get about 1.65 amps out of it. Even in partly cloudy and ambient light it can produce enough power to keep my 9aH gel cell battery topped off while I operate.

See pictures of my setup at This weekend we had wind gusts of 50MPH. I was operating portable again, and had the solar panel bungee corded down and it withstood the wind very well. Before I set up, I measured the 9aH gel cell battery voltage across the terminals it read 12.42v (about 75% charged). After operating for about 3 hours in cloudless skies while having the solar panel attached, I measured the voltage across the terminals and it read 12.9v (easily 100% charged). I've been able to stay on the air for about 12 hours, drawing a maximum of 7.5 amps from the battery. 8 hours during the day, and 4 hours after sunset. It makes a big difference in the amount of time I can stay on the air with a single battery.

This is one durable and fun solar panel. It has been the subject of much curiosity and an invaluable to my portable/disaster communication radio station.

MACALLY External Battery for all iPods

MACALLY External Battery for all iPods
  • Ideal for long flights, outdoor activities, anytime anywhere iPod devices might run out of power
  • High capacity Li-ion battery cell increases iPod play time approximately 6-8 hours
  • Compact and sleek design
  • Standard USB port
  • Plug iPod shuffle directly, and use existing 30-pin USB sync cable (not included) for other iPod devices

****This review is mainly for those who has iPhone 3G or similar gadgets that have a battery capacity of 1,200mAh or more. If you have a device with less, this review may still be suitable for you but you can also consider other external battery chargers.****

I did tons of research trying to find the best external battery charger for my new iPhone 3G. I got say this, I love the Macally JBox. Seriously! I believe it is the best external battery charger on the market right now for it's size, weight, design, output, capacity and ability to check battery status.

I'm a power user because I spend most of my day browsing safari, listening to music and watching movies but 75~85% of the time making phone calls. Since voice call drains the most amount of juice, extra battery(ies) is a must for a business person like me. I had a Samsung Blackjack i607 before the iPhone 3G and I had 4 extra batteries in order to keep the phone running by the end of the day. Now the battery in the iPhone cannot be replaced easily so that's where external battery charger comes in handy.

Now which battery should I buy? I was wondering. Definitely not big or heavy ones that might give me a burden. I need something small and light so I can carry it in my pocket and charge my iPhone 3G at the same time on the go. Anything 2.5"x4"x0.6" and 10 oz or less would be perfect. How about let's try eBay since most stuff are cheap? *BUZZ* That's a big NO NO!! Most of eBay external battery chargers that have 9,600~20,000mAh are fake due to their small size and light weight. I did a little research by contacting at least 25+ people who purchased those products on eBay and most of their answers are the same. Those batteries are fake and have at most 1,200mAh. Cheap quality for cheap product.

Now how about ? The TY460 has an impressive 4,600mAh capacity, which is 1,200mAh more than Macally JBox. However, I don't trust the capacity of the iMaxPower due to it's identical size and weight as the JBox. Does eBay chargers ring a bell? Their small size and light weight yet mislabeled capacity? Now, let's just assume the capacity is 4,600mAh since I don't have one so I can't confirm it but take look at the output, 600mA. 600mA? That will take more than double the time to charge a cellphone/PDA than JBox. The phone controls the current delivery to the battery. If the battery can take the current the phone will allow what ever the charger can deliver. Anything lower and the phone will limit the supply to the battery. If the charger can't deliver the battery requirements then the worst that can happen is that it takes longer to charge! This is only valid for Li-Ion batteries. Because the current delivery is variable depending on the battery's state so a 600mAh charger won't take 2 hours to charge a 1200mAh battery. It WILL take approximately 3 hours!! My iPhone 3G has 1400mAh battery. iMaxPower TY460 will take more than 2 hours to charge the phone while JBox will take a little over an hour. The TY460 has identity size and weight as JBox but the design, color and quality did not catch my eye. In another word it's ugly and cheap. Also the "To Device" port is on the side as oppose to from the top of JBox. For those people like me who charges the phone on the go(I'm not talking about sitting on an airplane or train but walking around mostly) The "To Device" port has to be on top of the charger or your pants pocket will be tight and bulky unless you have a big pocket. Don't even think about the TY250, it's 350mA will take 4 hours to charge my iPhone 3G and probably will not even be able to sustain the phone if I make a long phone call.

Now how about ? Let's take look at the model 33396. Not the one that sticks into bottom of the iPhone but the one that's identical to the JBox. It has the same slick design as JBox. The output of 1.50A or 1,500mAh is impressive. It will fully charge my iPhone 3G in less than an hour. However, the unimpressive capacity of only 1800mAh really turned me down. A little over an hour charging the iPhone 3G it will be dead. Not to mention the price is $69.99 as oppose to $39.99 for the JBox.

Now, finally, here comes the biggest competitor(s), JAVOedge/Lenmar. I'm not sure which one is the original manufacture and which one is the reseller since they both have the exact same design, weight, size, capacity and output except the logo. Anyway, JAVOedge/Lenmar and JBox has the identical size(3.9"x2.4"x0.6" for JAVOedge/Lenmar and 4"x2.4"x0.6" for JBox), weight(4.2oz. for both) and capacity(3,400mAh for both) but outputs are different. JAVOedge/Lenmar has 700mA while JBox has 1,000mA. I bought the JAVOedge before I saw JBox. Everything worked fine on JAVOedge, the output and capacity were tested and showed satisfying result. Though it does not have battery status light but as least it shows green light when fully charged as oppose to the non-existence status of fully charge on JBox. Then I found out the biggest flaw on JAVOedge! It IS UNABLE TO CHARGE MY DEAD iPhone 3G!! When I say dead I mean the phone is completely out of juice. I sent an email to the company to report this problem and they have taken the product off their iPhone 3G category ever since and offered me a full refund including original shipping and return shipping if I were to return the product. Macally JBox, on the other hand, has no problem to charge my dead iPhone 3G. That's my biggest concern since I cannot afford to have a dead phone in the middle of the day and many times I find myself too busy to keep tracking the battery status. I do hope the JBox can have a little more capacity tho. Additional 400~600mAh would be perfect since I came home with a 10% battery on iPhone 3G and a dead JBox last night. Maybe I'll considering getting a JBoxmini but I dislike the idea to carry too much stuff in my pocket. I guess I'll have to find a space in my already packed suitcase for it.

All the good talks are done. Now let's move onto some imperfections JBox has. The battery status of JBox showed full 3 bars after only 30 minutes of charge from empty juice. However, if I stop charging the JBox after 30 minutes and use it to charge my iPhone the battery status immediately changed from 3 lights to 1 light. So I conclude the battery status does not show the right level while the JBox is being charged unless you calibrate it by charging it with something else. Another imperfection is the lack of ability to show whether if it's fully charged or not. Unlike JAVOedge which will show steady green light when the battery is fully charged and red when it's low, JBox however will always show green light as soon as it's been charged. The only time it will show red is when the battery is low. This creates a problem because we can't tell when the battery is fully charged or not. After several email to tech support Tom from Macally, he explained the green light will flash for 2 seconds once fully charged but how can one tell unless he keeps staring at the light for hours? Once you miss it it won't flash again. Then he explained further saying that after 2 seconds of flashing green the light will be turned off. I find that's not the case for my JBox. Either my JBox is defective on that small part or that information is simply not true.

Some additional information and misc. I collected from Tech Support Tom. The JBox will take 2.5 hours to be fully charged from empty and it has a protection circuitry inside to prevent overcharge. Some information on the box or specification sheet in the package is incorrect. The correct specification is listed below:

Macally Jbox IP-A481

Capacity: 3400mAh ( does not show the capacity but the package does)

Output Current: 1000mA max. (1200mA max. in the package label is wrong) Unit Weight: 4.2oz (JBox weights 4.2oz, entire package weights 5.0oz, the 11.3oz on the product info page is wrong, maybe they calculated the shipping box in?)

This is a great product. I used it on my trip to Germany with my kids and our new iPod touch. They were using it for a lot of video and I used it for web browsing in wi fi hotspots along the way. Unlike some of the less expensive options this actually charges your device. I did recharge the backup battery when I could, but I think I could have gone all week just using this to recharge. It has 3 lights that tell you the status of the battery life just by pushing a button which is really nice. It comes with a cord to plug into a USB port or USB wall charger to recharge the battery, even a simple case to hold the battery and cord. Very light and does not get hot when you use it. Simple to use, but powerful where it counts, battery life. Well worth it.

I bought this to use with my iPod touch. And it works great. It completely recharges the Touch from a single charge. I can charge the device by using the standard USB brick from Apple or the USB port of my computer. I just took a long flight 6 hours of flight time plus two hours between flights. I watched a two hour plus movie and two TV shows in addition to an hour or so of music and an hour or so of Internet browsing. Plugged into the charger when the touch got to 20% warning. Now it's fully charged again. Never had to fumble with the power cords or computer. Its small too, not much bigger than the Touch itself. Definately worth it and no batteries to throw away like those other chargers. Now we just need to see how long it lasts.

Love it! So nice to throw it in my brief case before a trip and not have to worry about how long my iPhone or iPod Nano is going to last. Easy to use, nice construction....I wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to others.

I bought this to have on hand in case my iPhone battery ran out while I was traveling. It works perfectly with iPhones as well as with iPods. I was even able to continue taking pictures using the battery. I plugged it in as soon as my iPhone warned me that the battery was in the "very low" range and it switched to the battery without a problem. The battery also has an "on/off" switch so you can avoid draining the battery when not in use. Also has a USB cord for charging and a small carry pouch. I just leave it in my purse now for those times when I run out of time . . .

Instapark® 15W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel With a 12V solar charge controller

Instapark® 15W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel With a 12V solar charge controllerItem arrived in seven days which is faster than promised. I found panel quality to be fine for the price paid of 72 dollars which includes the controller and free shipping. It was very easy to hook up and works great. I use the solar panel to keep a 12v deep cycle battery charged for my electric bear fence. I used to have to charge the battery every two or three weeks to be sure it was up to par. With the solar panel hooked up I get a stronger shock all the time because battery remains fully charged which give me peace of mind, and should extend the battery life. I will be buying one of these for every bee yard I have.

Nice!! Even has a USB charging port. I used it to charge my phone and my digital camera just to try it out. Even though the sticker says it will not charge an iPhone, it works fine with mine! I bought this for my hurricane kit. I am also thinking of using it to power a small 12v fan to keep the humidity low in my boat that I keep covered at my house. I have 5 of these fans and it makes them run so fast, one of them actually took off like a helicopter and broke!!

I would have given it 5 stars if they included easier mounting holes. I don't know why their aren't holes all the way through, and I am afriad I might break it if I drill some myself.

This puts out the specified power. What I don't like is the general cheap feel of the units. The frame seems a little flimsy and there is no bypass diode in the junction box on the back.

Overall, it's OK, but next time I would buy a unit from Osprey-Talon

I use this on top of my horse trailer to keep a battery charged. I use a marine battery to power the hydraulic ramp on my horse trailer and this solar panel does a fine job of keeping the battery juiced up.

This has been something that has moved from camping projects to automotive use and shown itself to be versatile and reliable.

Originally, we hooked this up to a 12VDC motorcycle battery for camping use. The built-in 5VDC USB charger will operate off the battery as well as the solar panel, giving us a charger for mobile phones, and the battery recharged (under tree cover/partial shade) each day enough to operate LED lighting all night.

Since then, it's been used in a few unscientific electrical experimentation rigs, and adapted to provide a battery tender for a Geo Metro with a slightly weak alternator, and has been flawless in any application. (It's no replacement for a 120VAC-type battery charger, but it's enough to keep the car "startable" when its alternator wasn't *quite* pushing enough charge.) We've hooked this up to LED lighting, electric fans, and a number of other things.

On the (negligible) downside: the non-removable cable from the solar panel to the controller pack is quite long, but a little awkward in some applications (simply by virtue of being non-removeable), and the alligator clips are not the best, but are easily supplemented or replaced. (Driving a steel bolt through the existing clips provides a more permanent screw-on terminal once their springs wear out, without severely altering the device.)

NPower Booster Cable - 4-Gauge, 20Ft.L

NPower Booster Cable - 4-Gauge, 20Ft.LI have needed these cables once so far, and they worked very well. The vehicle charged quicker than with any other cables I have ever owned. The only thing that could be improved is the bare metal clamps I get nervous touching bare metal. I wish they were coated with rubber or silicone to be slip resistant as well as to be less of a conductor. Still the best cables I have found!

Just got these cables a couple of days ago. Nice carrying case for it and the cables themselves are heavy duty and durable. i wanted 20ft cables so you can reach another battery easily without running out of cable.

Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid RAZR Mobile Smartphone (Tangle Free) Retractable Car Charger Adapter

Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid RAZR Mobile Smartphone Retractable Car Charger AdapterI had orginally given this produce five stars. And I ordered two more of these because of it. Big mistake! The cord I had first started not charging my phone and became useless. The next two I bought, one of the parts just broke into pieces within a couple of weeks; the other, decided not to charge the phones at all. I am disappointed in these because I had high hopes.

I AM Very HAPPY WITH THIS purchase it works better than i thought it would. It recoils very quickly. I'm only afraid that the wire might break because it's so thin. It hasn't yet though

The product received is not quite as pictured on Amazon (it's very similar but the light is red not blue, the grips/markings on the fat end are different, and the button to retract the cord is different), nor does it appear to be a Verizon product, but I like the product and it was inexpensive (less than $6 with s/h). The cord is thin, but shouldn't be a problem if you're careful with it. Even if you use it a lot and it does break in a year or two, it would be cheap to replace with another one. I've had it less than a month, but it appears to be a great product at a great price.

Wireless Gear LCD Rapid Charger for Cell Phones

Wireless Gear LCD Rapid Charger for Cell PhonesI bought mine at Wal-Mart over a year ago and it charges the phones all the way up. The best part is you can see how long it has been charging. This one came with many adapters. It also tilts so you can see the meter. I am going to contact the company and ask if they will send me the new "mini-USB" for the newer phones. One purchase you'll be very happy with.
