Retractable Car Charger for Nokia N97

To start with, if you're using a Nokia N97 phone, you may know how difficult it is to find a replacement charger at any of your local stores. I learned this on a 1,500 mile road trip when the original car charger died about 200 miles into the trip. Since then, I've learned to keep a spare charger in the car.

I bought this charger because I liked the idea of the retractable cord, making it much neater to store. When it arrived, I was a bit dubious about the apparently thin gauge wire, especially as compared to the typically thick charger wires I'm used to.

I've had it for about a month now, and I'm quite happy with it. It appears to charge the phone just as quickly as the original, and so far I haven't experienced anything to be concerned about with its operation. I have no idea how long it will last with that thin cord, so I'm going to buy another one "just in case". Having that cord rolled up inside is really great when it's riding in the glove box.

I didn't give it five stars only because I still doubt the durability of the thin cord and retracting mechanism. I do feel that the retracting cord is worth the chance of a shorter product life, since it just feels good every time I fish it out and don't have to deal with a cord tangled around a bunch of other stuff. The retracting mechanism allows you to partially retract the cord to the length you need. I think the fully extended cord is about 15" 18" long.

The first charger I got, stopped working after two times of using. I contacted the seller and they were really nice and sent me a new one. This one works very good.

I had to leave a feedback on this product. This inverter is really cool looking. It's really tiny, it fits in your cup holder and has 3 USB ports, I only realized that there was three ports when I received it, the two other ports are located at the back of the inverter.

I love knowing that I will never run out of battery on the go! Now I can charge my laptop, cell phone and ipad all at the same time!! Oh wait there is still one USB left :)

The inverter no taller than a pack of gum and has no trouble fitting in the cup holders of both of my cars.

It comes with two cables that each can power the inverter, a cigarette adapter and a cable that can be hooked onto a 12 volt car battery. The latter isn't as useful to me in particular but still convenient to have around.

I used it twice today 30 minutes at a time to charge my iphone and went up 20% in battery life in that time span. It worked very well without overheating at all. I haven't tried using all 3 USB ports and 1 AC ports at one time but i'm sure this thing can handle it

I'll update this review in the future if i do.

Still going strong! No problems so far. I've even bought 4 more (some blue, some pink) to put in backpacks, different rooms, one for work, etc.

I have only been using this for a few days, maybe a week, so I can't speak to the longevity of it yet (I'll update this review if anything is noteworthy). However, what I can say is that it fulfills my iphone sync cable needs. By this, I mean that it successfully charges and syncs my phone. Nothing special. But that's good cables are meant to be in the background, they are most successful at what they do if they go unnoticed. When do you notice a cable? When it stops working, or if it breaks something that's attached to it, or if it does something weird. This one is totally boring, which is great. I mean, the color is super-cute, but that's about as exciting as a cable's going to get.

Some off-brand iphone cables have weird buttons and clasps on the end that plugs into the phone (the not-USB end), making the entire plastic end-piece much larger, which can sometimes make it difficult to use docks and stands that require you to provide your own sync cable. This one is not one of those it looks exactly like the picture.

I have about 550 watts of PV power & I had been using an old-style charge controller for the batteries. It did not have PWM or anything fancy, just a relay that would open at a certain voltage. The mornigstar is obviously a HUGE step up and it was worth every penny. Have stretched another year out of my batteries which I didn't think was possible the way they were behaving before. I just bought the remote temp sensor accesory (from solarpenny.com) and got it hooked up just before it got really cold out (my batteries are in steel boxes outside) They are fully charged & ready to go when I get home from work. I'm in love with my bionic, maybe because I've had a BB Tour for the past nearly 3 years. But I like this dock, turns your phone into a gps basically... if you can't figure out how to use it, simply hit the voice recognition button (make sure its set to google voice search and not that verizon piece of crap voice search) and say "Navigate to New York, NY" and if you speak relatively clearly it will pop up a confirmation box, making sure thats what you want to do... Hit "go" and it will go into navigate mode, where it will act like a GPS... but its better because you can access street view (press the green area at the top where tthe directions are and click the little yellow guy that appears on the bottom right) and live traffic info. You can choose alternate routes and set preferences to avoid tolls / highways.

When I get in my car I tell my car where to take me and pop on pandora. I have it hooked up to my car stereo through an auxilary connection. When GPS instructions need to be given, it pauses pandora. Also, it acts as a speakerphone, which I love. Again, pauses your music with an incoming call. ROutes the callers voice into your speakers and still allows you to use the phones mic to speak. Everybody says they can hear me well! Maybe this doesnt amaze you, but my BB tour used to disable my mic when i hooked up any kind of 3.5mm audio to it, so I was super stoked when this phone worked the way I hoped! Although if you have Bluetooth in your car already, none of this matters.... lol

I had the original "OG" Droid by Motorola, and got very used to having the car dock up by the rear view mirror. Loved the automatic car-mode feature, which was ground-breaking for its time. There were one or two things that I thought could be better... which brings us to this one.

They fixed them all. This thing is GREAT!!

Pros:

A. Nice deep suction cup with a positive lock that holds *really* well!

B. Post-to-mount is a ball joint with a threaded collar to lock it totally adjustable.

C. Camera is unobstructed!! Create a "Camcorder" shortcut on the second screen and you've got driving videos/photos!

D. The BIONIC fits in this without taking it out of the case! (the standard Moto belt case w/kickstand) But, if you're a no-case/pocket kinda guy/gal there's an adapter included FTW.

This item works as described and the navigation works far better than my Garmin Nuvi! The voice command and bluetooth also work well. The only problem I have had is with the music player for some reason I cannot access my full library from the custom home screen music option although I haven't ruled out user error as of yet. I haven't had a problem with the window mount coming detached and the collar to keep the swivel in place works fine on mine as well. Bionic also fits snug while bionic is in the case. If I find that the music library is just a setting in the phone I will add another star but overall I am happy with it and feel it was worth the forty bucks or so I paid for it. Oh btw it also reads text messages aloud if you receive text while driving or gives you an option to call the sender via voice command so you can keep your eyes on the road. I like to see a generic dock do either of those!.

This is the version that comes with the charger and the USB cable. That is very important to pay attention to, because there is also a version that is just the dock (the Verizon one). Anyway, that USB cable is the only connection needed to the dock, cleaning up the look. No need to also plug in an audio cable, as the USB cable carries the audio and you plug the audio cable into that. The docking software has a few well-documented quirks (inability to rotate out of landscape view, phones volume control doesn't work through USB, etc.), but this is not pertinent to a review of the dock itself. The dock itself is very sturdy, the phone slips in and out smoothly, it DOES accomodate the extra capacity battery (I have this), and there is a sleeve that you can remove to accomodate a protective case (I don't have this). Very pleased with the dock so far!

This is an OEM Motorola made for Bionic car mount/cradle . It includes a unique charger set up as well which is not very well described or barely mentioned , ANYWHERE ! So let me start there . The car charger is a dual USB style port which plugs typically into your car's cigarette lighter/12V power outlet just like any other ordinary auto charger . Only this one includes a special cable which is actually 2 cables in 1 ! The 1st is the USB to micro USB used for power / charging of the phone but it actually says to NOT use with other chargers or household outlet style chargers don't ask me why , thats just what it says . It plugs large side into the plug going into your cars power outlet and the other (micro) into the cradle assembly . The 2nd cable is a mini phono style cable which connects to the plug in your cars power outlet and leads out approximatley 12-15 inches and then leads to your vehicles auxillary input jack assuming you have one , if you do great , this is simple neat and easy for you but if you don't , no worries , the cable section is removable and the external phone speaker works fantastically ! Or if your vehicles radio is BT compatible then you could use that method ;) All this bundles up nice and neat with an included velcro wrap up which is a nice lil' bonus too . As for the cradle , it's far nicer than the Motorola cradle for the orignal Droid which i also had and liked , this one will accept the phone out of the box stock or with the extended factory battery or with a variety of silicone sleeve/covers and even the extended battery with factory VERIZON shell/holster what i currently use and it works with them all securely and firmly and allows for full access to all features of your phone as well as buttons and controls and when docked in this cradle unlocks and opens a new auto/navi feature i've never seen or heard of anywhere else and i won't even go into just how awesome and sweet this added perk is . The cradle can be mounted to your windshield via the included suction cup mount which is what i use and prefer or inverted with the included plate which can be adhered anywhere in your vehicle . There are a variety of booklets , instructions and pamphlets also included with this kit one of which was a 15% off on your next VZW in store purchase which worked out nicely for me since i wanted that extended battery and of course an apprpriate cover/sleeve for said extended battery pack equipped phone . I purchased this for my husband who had already gone through a mophie juice pack air and a mophie juice pack. It arrived within a day and a half two days just in time for his birthday and I got in all black and it looks sleek. So far seems to work great but the car charger that I bought with it doesn't fit the port well at all and sometimes charges and sometimes does not. Goal Zero 12401 Nomad 13.5M Solar Panel

Some time ago i felt the urgent need to own one of these foldable solar panels. This panel was meant to be one of my "zombie apocalypse is coming 2012"-gadgets for my "BOB" or "Get Home"-Bag. Better be prepared! To be honest: Neither am i a serious backpacker, nor a real survivalist, but i do collect knives and survival gear to just own it in case of an emergency, "catastrophes" or "terrorist attacks". Funny, huh?

For the review part: For whatever i want to purchase i do A LOT of investigation in advance (Youtube videos, (amazon) reviews, forums, blogs) and always want to spend my money on the ONE best option available. This only works in theory (at least for me...), in practice i nearly always end up in ordering two or more items, because i simply can't decide between them.

The solar panel was supposed to power a Galaxy Tab 7 (battery = 3,7v * 4000mah= 14,8wh), a HTC Desire HD (3,7v * 1230mah = 4,5wh), some portable USB Speakers ( unfolded!

I took my two panels, my USB stuff and a multimeter outside on a semicloudy day (which is pretty much "standard weather" where i live).

Both panels were lying flat on the ground, with no shadows and partly cloudy sky. Both panels delivered about 18V (sunlinq 17 and goal zero higher with 18-19V) with no load. When switching the multimeter to Amp measurement was when my jaw dropped. GZ: 0.04A and Sunlinq: 0,5A (* 12V). Tilting the GZ panel towards the (non visible) sun though increased output to 0,138A. Tilting the sunlinq towards the sun is tough, because its similar to truck canvas and folds together too easy. Did not improve output by much anyhow...

To make it short: Both panels fell short in delivering the necessary power for my needs and my weather conditions. The Sunlinq did perform better on this partly cloudy day, but still i needed the whole day to charge the Anker2! It might work for me, but most likely i will upgrade to a 20+ watt panel with CIGS cells.

What i liked about the nomad:

The formfactor when unfolded (folded it's quite a brick)

The looks (designed in the US)

Quality seemed alright (made in China)

What i disliked:

too bulky when folded (in comparison to the sunload panel)

danger of breaking (Manual says NOT to bend and NOT to walk on the panel because of the non flexible solarcells The sunlinq feels softer, more like a tarpaulin). That's propably why they throw in an empty pack in the commercial video.

I do not want to carry a multimeter all day, only to find the correct angle for this panel to perfom. That might be the reason why mono cells are installed on roofs with special calculated angles. This is where they perform best.

4.7mm special connector (SAE on the Sunlinq is motorcycle standard)

Output of the USB out not clearly declared (GZ-Website says 5V and 0,5A, printing on panel says 5Watt bad transformation? or bad translation?). Did not even get the 0,5 out though, when it was cloudy.

The Sunlinq panel is technically identical to the Brunton, Motomaster, Me2 and Sunload panels , as there is only one company which builds/"prints" these CIGS cells ("global solar" in Tucson and Berlin). Differences are only connectorwise.

In a perfect world Goal Zero would use CIGS cells for their future products

Hope this helps (pretty time consuming as i am native german and have to think twice before i write sth. in english, but i benefit a lot from american reviews and thought i'd share a "kind of" objective review).

Update 6/16/12: Got myself 2 higher rated panels for comparison: The P3 with 30wp and the sunlinq 25wp ("sunlinq 5").

First impression:

The P3 is about 2-3 times thicker than the other sunlinqs (12wp and 25wp). Apart from that, there is no big difference (in performance) at all. The only difference technically is a much higher open circuit voltage for the p3 (28V!!!), which does require a (MPPT?) charge controller as an extra investment. So all in all it depends on whether you are willing to pay nearly double the price for a ridiculous amount of extra performance, a 2yr warranty and a military tag, or not.

If you are wondering whether or not to get this, go ahead and try it. This solar panel is one tough little cookie. I have this solar panel as part of the Goal Zero Sherpa 50 adventure kit. The panel folds up nicely and is easy to carry. I took it to Afghanistan with me this year, and it still works good. Sure, it has a few scratches on the panels here and there, but it hasn't affected its performance to date. This panel has fallen over due to wind onto my concrete porch floor and did not break. It even fell from my truck (4 feet) onto the driveway and survived!!

I can charge my Sherpa 50 watt battery in about 1 and 1/2 days with it.

GO ahead and buy it!!

Buy Goal Zero 12401 Nomad 13.5M Solar Panel Now

This is my third Goal Zero purchase and I was pleased and surprised to find that the output measure 20.1 watts when measured (without load) in direct September sunlight in southwest Missouri. I purchased this unit as a more powerful addition to the Nomad 7 which I use when backpacking to charge my cell phone and GPS. This unit has twice the panels of the Nomad 7, is still light weight and folds compactly for storage in my backpack. Like the Nomad 7, the Nomad 13.5M has grommets to attach it to the backpack to allow charging while on the move.

I did not see the connection to directly attach the Guide 10 or Guide 10 Plus battery packs that are the mainstay of the Nomad 7; but in addition to the standard USB port for general electronic device charging it does come with the plug to directly charge the Escape 150, a standard 12 V. auto plug connector, and a connection to chain connect other Goal Zero panels. I plan to contact Goal Zero to see what options are available to connect the Guide 10 battery packs to the Nomad 13.5M or to see if I've simply overlooked the obvious connection.

I haven't taken this panel into the woods yet but I have placed it on the dash and used it to charge my android via the USB and the 12 V car charger connection as I drive home from work. Everything I've looked at so far on this unit suggest that it charges at least twice as fast as the Nomad 7 which was my first Goal Zero purchase. I'm very pleased with all the Goal Zero products I've purchased to date.

I also have to say a good word about the customer support I received when my Escape 150 didn't perform to expectations after the first couple weeks of use. I sent an email to the support line and received a prompt response with some special instructions to reset the battery. The instructions worked great for the next charge but the problem came back a week later. A second email to the company letting them know that the problem had returned was all it took and they sent a replacement battery. No hassle, no arguments, and no waiting for the bad battery to be returned or shipping charges. Even though I was initially uneasy and concerned that I experienced a problem with the Escape 150 immediately after purchase the excellent customer support convinced me that this was a company that stands behind their products and that I could trust. As a result of this customer service I now own the Nomad 13.5 and the Goal Zero Boulder 15 solar panel in addition to my previous purchases.

I purchased this solar panel because of the size and power output. I was happy when I received it and then upset when it didn't have all the outputs listed. NO SOLAR OUTPUT 6.5

Product was listed as having this output (compatible with goal zero guide 10 plus battery chargers I also purchased) The product technical specs listed are for the Nomad 13, not the Nomad 13.5 (an older model). I contacted Goal Zero (who sells this) and Amazon (who lists this incorrect information) and informed them of the mistake. I had to send mine back and order the Nomad 13. Still waiting on a refund for the Nomad 13.5 I thought they would change the listing for this after I informed them of the mistake, but I see they haven't. Be aware at the time of this review the technical specs are still listed incorrectly. The only outputs on this is 12v and USB .5amp.

The Nomad 13 has:

USB 1 AMP

SOLAR OUTPUT

CHAIN CABLE

12V

The Nomad 13.5 has:

USB .5 AMP

CHAIN CABLE/12V

CHAIN INPUT

When I say chain I mean a cable to connect more than 1 panel together for shared power.

A final thought, I wish the 13.5 had worked, the 13 is only 2 panels and a little larger, the 13.5 is smaller.

These walkie talkies described in one word are great. They are completely ideal for business, hobbies, or even for children. The walkie talkies are very clear, loud and easy to use. I have had these for two month now and use them on a daily basis. I am very happy with the battery life, clarity and especially the ease of use. I really like the audible notification of the currently selected channel. One dissapointment that I had is that I purchased a midland earpiece that has a very similar headset connector but found that it did not work with these walkie talkies.

These radios are great. And the size is awesome for camping,and hiking. The quality is great they have a military feel to them. I wish my radio in Iraq was this compact, and durable.

Our 11 year-old grandson wanted walkie talkies for Xmas, and since his dad takes him out in the woods for camping and general roaming around, they would also be very useful for keeping in touch when out of sight. I researched various models available on Amazon, and while my son wanted something with some color on it (in case it gets dropped in the woods and he has to search for it), I thought these had the best combination of price and performance. BTW, I ordered them on Friday before Xmas, and they showed up (with std shipping, no less) on Monday morning, Xmas Eve -can't beat that! My son and grandson went into full testing mode immediately after unwrapping these on Xmas morning, and they haven't stopped all week. They tell me that the sound clarity is great, the range seems to be good (haven't tested to find the max range yet, but they will), and the feel of the case and controls is just right for them. As for color, my wife decided that $1 worth of red reflective tape from a local bargain store would do just fine when wrapped around the lower part of the case. Great product, extremely fast shipping service by this seller and the USPS.

and last the cheap (inclosed) instruction manual is useless !!!!!! Other than that the radios seem to be working ok its kinda of irritating to turn on the radios and have that voice there all the time.

The price on this item was great, but while the GPS is charging, you cannot view the screen. So if you need the GPS for a long trip, you would need to charge it up before, as you will not be able to view the screen.

this charger has worked every day since I got it I use it to keep backup

battery charged on a security system I would buy another if I should

This charger works quite well for smaller applications, but it simply doesn't have the amps needed to effectively charge my 8ah sealed lead acid battery. It takes over 16hrs to fully charge my battery, but i knew this ahead of time. This charger does get warm during operation which is surprising given the miniscule current draw. The "charged/Charging" light is nice, but doesn't have any indication as to the voltage nor the charging current. The charging red light will slowly fade to off hours before the charged light comes on. (keeping in mind it takes 16hrs to charge my 8amp/hr battery)

This charger is wonderful when used properly, but didn't fit my needs.

I recommend this product, but it could have improvements.

What can I say? I bought a sealed lead acid battery and a 5 volt USB converter so I could use my iPhone gadgets while kayaking in the wilderness. This charger, uh, charges the battery like it's supposed to. It's handy to have the red/green LED's so I know when the battery is fully charged.

It gets very hot when used, but it does seem to work. It is slow on larger batteries, and it looks as though it overheats after a while (not sure about that, so I'll keep the review at 4 stars).

I've had car chargers for cell phones for probably 20 years, and this is by far the best quality I've seen. It's not one of those made out of brittle plastic. I don't know what the material is, but it's very sturdy and feels good to the touch. It's a miracle they can sell it at this price. One word of warning, though. It only fits a Pantech Link it won't work with a Link II.

It failed out of the box and never worked. That is, it never changed the phone even though the led was lit on the unit.

I would give 5 stars for the way it works--plug it into the socket in the car, the red light comes on and the Pantech Link starts charging. However, the first one I received didn't work unless it was held in the socket. The supplier rapidly replaced it with one that works, but I did have to take off one star for the faulty one.
