Delphi SA10109 Delphi XM Roady2 Personal Audio System

Delphi SA10109 Delphi XM Roady2 Personal Audio SystemIf you already have a Roady2 , and you're looking for a portable solution, you will like this product. It does everything it says it does. It is very heavy, though, and I wouldn't recommend it for jogging. I use it at my gym when I'm on the treadmill, and for this purpose it works well. If you haven't purchased a Roady2, you might as well get the Myfi. It's a lot more expensive but when you add up the cost of the Roady2 and the Delphi Personal Audio System, you'll end up spending the same amount of money. Overall, it's good but not great.

Just a quick warning, this thing is heavy. The battery pack is a lot of weight. Go to the store and pick it up in your hands to feel for sure. For the price of this and the Roady2, you might as well get the portable unit to begin with.

Buy Delphi SA10109 Delphi XM Roady2 Personal Audio System Now

Great Signal (better than a MyFi XM2Go ) because the XM antenna is on the top of the headphones . Even in the woods fair Signal some cutouts. But poor Case design VERY hard to get out of The dock to use in your car.

Pros. Great signal (with NO repeaters)

FM Radio As a backup (but unless your underground

You'll have good signal)

Cons. VERY BAD CASE DESIGN feels cheep , very hard to remove

Roady 2 from The Personal Audio System.

This system has several things wrong with it. For starters is the price, way to high for such a low quality product. The Roady's signal is constintly being lost, even when staying almost completly still. For a product made for people on the move, this product simply doesn't work. On top of the bad reception, the system is frail. Mine broke the first day, while trying to remove the Roady from it.

also, while the roady is plugged into it, you can not use the Roadies FM transmitter, to play your music where you take it.

I do not recomend this product for anyone, unless you thibnk you can get a good deal on it. I thought I was at the time, but wasted my money, perhaps I can save someone else's money.

Want Delphi SA10109 Delphi XM Roady2 Personal Audio System Discount?

First off, I am going to be a little more forgiving of this item because I was able to purchase it for $39.00 on closeout.

For the price I paid this unit is outstanding. I have not ran into the problems of getting the Roady in and out that others have experienced. It seems to be a fairly easy process of pressing in on two latches and pulling the case apart. I was very concerned after reading the reviews here that this would be an issue. But I have been able to get the Roady out each and ever time in a few seconds. The Roady does fit snuggly inside the case but I would rather have this than the Roady falling out in my hand.

The case could be made of a little more sturdy plastic, but this would also add to the weight. The case and Roady together weigh about as much a portable CD player. Most of the weight can be attributed to the battery.

As far as reception goes I have been able to get a strong signal short of standing in a six foot hole. I purchased the portable player because I have several hundred acres of land to attend to, and it helps me keep my sanity. I have not ran into an area where the signal drops out on me as of this time.

The headset is not exactly top of the line....but what are you to do? You can't exactly buy a set of Bose headphones and tear the antenna out of included set. So....your stuck for the moment with what comes with in the package.

For the price I paid I can't complain other than the headset. I personaly have not ran into the problems of getting the Roady out of the case to put in my car. The reception is great I can get a signal when my friend with a XM2Go can't.

Its a nice setup but not for $120.00 or so dollars...if it can be found for under 50.00 get it.....you wont regret it.

SANOXY 3 in 1 USB Charger Kit for iPod and iPhone: Travel Charger, Car Charger, and Retractable USB

SANOXY 3 in 1 USB Charger Kit for iPod and iPhone: Travel Charger, Car Charger, and Retractable USB Charger and Data Cable
  • Brand New Generic !! Color : White
  • Car Charger fits both standard and auxiliary car power outlets
  • Compact design and retractable coil cord are made for easy storage
  • LED light power indicator
  • Package contains: 1 car charger adapter, 1 USB cable and 1 AC USB Adapter

I wanted to get this product for my iPod touch so that I don't have to turn on a computer every time my iPod needs to be charged. I was going to pay $20 separately for a wall charger and car charger at a store, until I found this on Amazon. As is described, the wall plug and the car adapter have USB docks in them. iPods aren't the only things that these things can recharge, though. I plugged in my phone via USB and it worked as I expected. This is a nice feature because it will save me from having to buy a new car adapter for every new phone I get, so long as I have a USB cable for said phone, that is. It'll even recharge my Xbox 360 wireless controller! Sometimes I need to recharge my Xbox 360 controller but the Xbox 360 is annoyingly loud, turned on, when you're not using it. Such a pleasant capability!

Aside from the wall plug and car adapter, the USB data cable works just as well for syncing iPods as the one that comes with them. The fact that the cord is retractable is very convenient because it eliminates any tangling of other cords and it's easy to just slip in your pocket in case you're planning on recharging your iPod somewhere like at school. It isn't as long as the one that came with my iPod, but it certainly is nice to have because sometimes I need to recharge my iPod with my MacBook, but have a hard time bringing that long messy cord that comes with the iPod.

All in all, the wall plug, the car adapter, and the retractable USB data cables defeat messiness and will save you money on extra junk that you think you may need. It's a must own for ANYONE who needs to charge a device via USB. Did I mention that it'll even recharge Xbox 360 or PS3 wireless controllers? Whether it's an iPod, a phone, a game controller, or whatever that needs to be recharged via USB, I highly recommend this product to anyone.

Buy SANOXY 3 in 1 USB Charger Kit for iPod and iPhone: Travel Charger, Car Charger, and Retractable USB Now

From what I've experienced, the other reviewers are correct: this product is either not designed to charge an iPhone 3G from a wall outlet (the most likely case since the Firewire pinouts were removed for the 3G), or else has such quality control problems that only a minority of wall units sold (judging from the reviews) actually work. The presentation on my iPhone is that the status icon on the top of the iPhone switches to the charging icon, and the full screen image with the green battery bar graph appears. But the unit doesn't really charge. And when you try to "slide to unlock" when connected to the wall charger, the arrow button never slides, and you cannot get to the Home screen (or the Enter Passcode screen if you have a passcode).

There are several online reports to the effect that several generic third-party iPod/iPhone chargers no longer work with the iPhone 3G. That seems to be true here, despite the claims to 3G-compatibilty.

The USB cable should work fine, though you can purchase it very cheaply by itself. I've not tried the car charger, and honestly wasn't in a big hurry to do so since I've traditionally had bad experiences with such devices (although I must admit that today's rechargeable batteries are much more resilient than the NiCads and lead acid gel contraptions that us greybeards started out with in the 1980s).

So your experience may be better, and it's not a major purchase, but since it's claimed that this is iPhone 3G compatible, I'm giving it one star and suggesting you look elsewhere.

It works fine, but the cord only extends to 2 ft. Think it should be at least 3 or 4 feet.

Midland LXT410VP3 12-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)

Midland LXT410VP3 12-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way RadioWe were surprised to get 7Km range around the corner on the lake!

However, on the six units we bought, the belt braket broke on 3 of them in the first few days. Under engineered, I would say.

I would recommend these radios. Well made and quite dependable. The charger base is super convenient. Their range isn't as much as they say maybe 1 to 2 miles. Perhaps farther on open areas I've not tested them extensively on long ranges. But they do have a high quality of voice transmission. We use them on trails and between vehicles on the roads. And if one family member goes out for a walk, they take the radio and we keep one home. We're considering buying another pair for when we need more than two.

Buy Midland LXT410VP3 12-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) Now

These are very good as an inexpensive consumer-grade walkie-talkie. They don't compare to professional grade, however the sound quality is good and the range is also very good. I would rate them 5 stars when considering the price, but rated them 4 stars because they are not a pro-grade product and because of the delay mentioned below. I like that they come with rechargeable batteries and chargers, and it's a complete package. They are ideal for family or group communication when cell phones aren't practical, or in areas that don't have cell service. Overall I'm very satisfied.

We used them over ranges of 3-4 miles with good clarity, but still haven't tested max range. The only usability issue we encountered is that the talker must wait to begin speaking about 1/2 second after pressing the TALK button, or the start of the transmission gets cut off. I think this has something to do with the squelch or privacy features, but haven't experimented with settings.

I've been hitting the slopes quite a bit this season. I've been using my friend's Motorola Talkabout radios (10 mile range, 99/100? privacy codes). I decided to buy myself a pair. This pair of Midlands happen to be on sale so I got them. Upon arrival, 1 radio gets loud yucky beeping noise when receiving transmission, regardless of the channel and subchannel. Will look into warranty info.

Usability is just ok. This radio is bulky and its antenna sticks out too much. The unit is rather uncomfortable in my ski jacket.

If you are thinking about buying a pair of radios, I'd stick with Motorolas... they are much better designed.

Great Buy, Great sound, Worth the money, even though the FCC license is $80. Better to be safe and legal than sorry.....

I shopped around for these radios and found Amazon to be the BEST price.

Sirius SR4000 Orbiter Receiver Satellite Radio

Sirius SR4000 Orbiter Receiver Satellite Radio
  • Easy-to-read 6-line LCD display automatically adjusts brightness to conditions
  • Displays channel name, number, category, artist, song title and time simultaneously
  • Satellite-updated real-time clock with alarm and sleep timer
  • Song-Seek/Program alert prompts you when your favorite song or programs are playing on another channel
  • Includes a full-function wireless remote control (requires 2 "AAA" batteries for operation, not included); Radio subscription sold separately

This is one of the older (to my knowledge) Sirius units. I've had mine 3+ years. They are bigger and clunkier than many of the new models, but to me with the larger display and button size it is far easier to use and preferable. I have 5 of these in my family and have not had trouble with any of them. Mine is used in my car on my daily commute and then taken into the office to be used all day in the compatible boombox. I've looked at the new ones and while they do appear a bit more slick and sophisticated, I've decided for now I'll keep what works very well for me. FYI In two of our cars, I have the unit hidden out of sight in the center console with the antenna on the rear deck inside the car and it works well if you make certain the antenna has a good view of the sky. To me the trade off of a possible very slight degradation of performance is more than offset by the convenience of a totally inside the vehicle installation.

  • Fits standard USB connections. Color: Black. Accessory only MP3 player / cell phone/ battery not included.

My old FM transmitter that was about 8 years old took a dump on me, so I had to get a new one. The result is that I ended up getting this one.

First thing is, I was completely miffed by the fact that all of the FM transmitters on the market advertise extensively how they work with iPhones and iPods. Well, it would be a cold day in August before I would ever buy an Apple product, so I spent quite a bit of time searching and making sure that this one would work with my Droid 2 Global. And it works extremely well at that.

The second thing is, I paid about $60 for my old FM transmitter back in 2004, and the sound quality was a little bit sketchy. That's not the case with this one. In fact, I can now crank the stereo and enjoy crystal clear audio. I honestly didn't know that the stereo in my car was as good as it is. I also like the fact that I can use the entire FM band.

The one recommendation I have for users is to make sure that your mp3 device is on about 80% volume. It will produce some distortion (sounds like static) if on 100%.

The negatives are minimal. First of all, the device didn't come with an instruction book. So I have no idea if there are any bells and whistles I might be missing. Plus, there is no control to adjust the output of the device itself. Other than that, though, I'm happy with my purchase.

EDIT: I feel bad about this review because so many people have marked that they have found it useful. I am keeping my original review in its entirety, but I feel as if I need to do a followup.

Six months later, the cable that plugs into this unit from my car's cigarette lighter has developed a short. The music being played is staticy, and occasionally, it will cut completely out when hitting a bump. I know it's in this plug because when I twist it, the music will cut out completely. I'm disappointed because it worked so well and was so clear when I bought it. Clarity in my music really matters to me, though, so I am finding that I am having to replace it.

I bought a car with a cd player in it and they player didnt work i searched for somethingto put into my car that will let me play MY music and something cheap so I wouldnt have to spend alot of money fixing the cd player.. I came across this this and thought i should try it being only 8 bucks and i am very pleased. Mine canme with an instruction book and now can listen to my creative zen mp3 player anywhere i go. the only reason i didnt give it all 5 stars was bc they car adapter cord keeps getting loose the in outlet in my car, I dont know if its the plug itself or just the car being that it was used my a smoker before i bought it, i just use batteries to avoid this probelm. otherwise great device!

This transmitter was a piece of crap! I got it and the first week I had it, it sounded great! Then the second week it randomly stopped working. When the cable was barely touched at all or moved the music would stop or it would sound only play the sound and no lyrics. it was just a bad experience. you are better off paying a little more for something better and well known, or getting an auxiliary cable.

I rarely review on Amazon (boo to me), but I feel this product needs the positive reviews to ensure you believe its worth the low price.

I previously owned a much more expensive transmitter for an iPhone and it was crap. I needed a windshield dock to position it in a particular location to get MINIMAL (never completely faded) static.

When my iPhone began failing, I started using my BlackBerry and invested in a MicroSD card and transmitter because my drive to work is rather long and lacks interesting scenery.

This transmitter works great. The first time I used it, I tuned to the station I previously used with the iPhone because it worked the best then. I was a bit surprised to hear complete silence, honestly thinking the station that I could previously hear bits and pieces of between static was gone. It wasn't until this morning powering up the radio before the transmitter that I realized it was simply because the transmitter was "reserving" the frequency for whatever would play. COMPLETE SILENCE, NO STATIC!!!

The sound quality is great (in my opinion as someone who just wants to hear the music at a decent volume without static), and it's very simple to use.

The only thing I noticed which I'm not too sure how to explain is that there was actually a lot of interference when I tried to charge my BlackBerry at the same time. I'm not sure if this is specific to me or what but I just avoid it by making sure I have a full charge.

Cobra CPI 880 800 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter with 5 Volt USB output

Cobra CPI 880 800 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter with 5 Volt USB output
  • 800 W Continuous Power Handling
  • 5v USB output
  • 2 Grounded AC Receptacles
  • Thermal Shutdown and Reverse Polarity Protection

Got this to put in my little RV. I was looking for something small enough to not draw down

the one battery I have in the Coach. Installed under a cabinet close to the battery and

ran 10 ga wire to it. Plug in the Coach electrical cord to it and turned it on. It will

run a Radio or TV or the Microwave or the Fan in my A/C but not the A/C itself which would

take about a 3000 watt inverter which would drain my battery really fast! I watched TV and

listened to the radio for 2 days and finally ran the battery down running the A/C fan on the

second day. It's a little workhorse. Good for the price too!

Bought this for tailgating at Buffet. I was actually able to hook it up to a lawn tractor battery and power a blender. I wasn't sure if the battery would have enough juice, but it worked great and was much easier to transport than a car or marine battery. Testing at home showed the low voltage alarms and whatnot work very well. I just wish this came with a cigarette lighter cord for those times you're just using it on low-amp devices the way some other inverters do. Also, I agree with some other reviews that the mounting tab locations look like they would make getting the screws in there difficult. I haven't tried mounting it, but the edges of the case definitely would get in the way. Creative DIYers would find a way to make it work, so no big deal.

The first one died within about 6 weeks. That is not a good sign... but Cobra made good and sent me a new one which has been working flawlessly for > year. I like this unit because the fan is active, not passive. So if you are using it to, say, charge a phone or run a laptop with a charged battery, (e.g. not much current draw) the fan stays off. As a noise-freak, that makes me happy. The power rating seems realistic, unlike two other units I tried. I'm quite happy with it, minus the dead original of course.

mine works great. i don't use the wires that it comes with. they are short and thin. i modified my old jumper cables to use with it. i cut the clamps off of one end and permanently attached that to the inverter. now i have big clamps with 12 foot wires for a little more flexibility. i have used it for camping to make coffee and it worked great. i have also hooked up various power tools and those fired right up. (power drill, circ saw). i had my truck running while i was using it only because i was nervous about killing my battery. (we camp out in the middle of nowhere). it's a good little tool, i would recommend it.

This works great. Hooked it up to the clamps of my portable jump starter (just to test it out) and it ran a box fan high. Than I tried my desktop which is a gaming computer I built. Q6600 quad core overclocked to 3.4ghz 3x500gb raid 0 and 2x1.5tb hard drives. Geforce 8800 superclocked. Its 4 years old give me a break. It ran my desktop from start up to gaming and it was also running my monitor too. After 10 min or so the low voltage alarm came on but remember I was testing it with a portable jumpstarter that wasn't even fully charged. All in all its great. Its sitting in my car next to my amp so I can connect it to my amps power connection when I need to run something big.

iGo Charge Anywhere for iPod, iPhone, iPad, and other USB Devices

iGo Charge Anywhere for iPod, iPhone, iPad, and other USB DevicesI have been using the Igo charger for several weeks now, primarily to charge my phone when I am not near an electrical outlet. In general, I have found that it works reasonably well, but you can get higher capacity chargers that are more compact for a much better price.

Here are the pros and cons I observed during use:

PROS:

Attractive: The Igo charger has a diamond pattern on the top, making is snazzier than most chargers that I have seen.

Easy to use: To recharge the charger, just flip the built-in plug out and plug the charger into the wall. To charge a phone or other device, plug in a USB cable into the single Igo port, plug in the device, then press the button on the top.

Comes with a cable for Apple devices: I didn't test it with any Apple devices, but the charger worked fine with my Android phone.

LEDS indicate remaining charge: Four blue LEDs indicate the amount of battery capacity left in the charger during use.

CONS:

Larger than most chargers. The overall height and width are about the same as many other chargers, but the Igo is much thicker than most other chargers: about 2x the thickness at 24 mm (almost an inch).

Only 3400 mAh: This is one of the smaller capacity chargers you will find. I have seen them that go up to 12000 mAh. The larger the mAh rating, the more charges the charger will provide to your devices.

Relatively expensive: For the mAh rating, this device is pretty expensive, currently offered at about over 1/2 a c-note. The makes the price per mAh about 1.6 cents. Amazon sells other well-rated chargers for as little as .4 cents per mAh. Huge difference in price there.

Bottom Line:

During use, I was typically able to recharge my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone about 1.2 times from one full charge of the Igo charger. Recharging the Igo charger took about 4.5 hours average. While the charger performed well enough, I find it to be overpriced and oversized for a somewhat anemic total capacity. I recommend that you keep shopping for a better value.

I live mostly off the grid, and sometimes completely away from electrical power, so I appreciate any tool that makes my life easier. The iGo is a fine device for my purposes.

The charger arrived with an approximately 35% charge right out of the box. You can roughly tell how much of a charge you have in the unit by how many blue indicator lights glow. I had three light up. I was able to start charging my own iPhone directly from that with the included USB iPhone cable.

I then unplugged my phone from the iGo. I put the iGo directly into a wall outlet (two prongs) to bring it to a full charge (the prongs fold out from the device's body on the 'belly' end). Red indicator lights show when the battery pack part is charging, and then go off automatically at a full charge. From that time, the iGO is ready to be a portable USB charging device.

From the charge my product arrived with, it took less than two hours to bring the unit to a full charge, with no load. You can also simultaneously charge a USB device AND the battery pack, however.

The iPhone/iPad/iPod port is on the underside, on the short end of the body. The cable to use with this port is included in the box.

There is also a mini-USB port on the right, long side of the body, for charging other items. I really appreciate this kind of thoughtfulness, even though the mini-USB cord is not included. It is very nice to have the option.

One thing I would have liked to see included would be a small cloth bag for the charger and cord, for traveling. I have so many little devices now that I am learning how to sew my own.

The iGo body itself is a little shorter than an iPhone, but twice as thick, and decently weighty for the size (it IS a battery, after all). The front has a black plastic diamond 'quilting' design, and there is a single on/off switch to depress.

HOW I USE IT:

I keep the charger pack in a Ziplock bag in my purse for iPhone charging when out and about. I tend to be a heavy user of my phone, taking and texting a ton of photos, using apps and the internet, and usually draining my phone over the course of a day. This device gives me a little leeway for extra use time when the evening rolls around, and a lot of peace of mind that I won't accidentally be dead in the water. I just plug in the iPhone at a 10% charge and continue what I was doing.

For day hiking and camping, having this thing around gives me a feeling of security too. Since it's not water-resistant, I would need to use a dry bag for this on paddling trips.

RECOMMENDATION:

For ipods, phones and pads, this is a plug and play tool. It's both a wall unit and a portable charger. It's solid and user friendly. You don't even need to read the little instructions sheet that comes with it.

For non-Apple USB devices, the iGo is incredibly versatile. I've charged up my emergency Trac phone, my Flip camera and my Kindle so far, using my own cables.

I'd recommend the iGo for heavy USB device users who are out and about a lot. If you spend most of your time at home or in an office, this really isn't necessary, except as an emergency charging device in your car, backpack or Go Bag. Just remember to make sure to top off the charger's unit if you hide it away for long periods of time, so you will have that emergency power when you need it.

Altogether, I highly recommend this useful, versatile device.

Buy iGo Charge Anywhere for iPod, iPhone, iPad, and other USB Devices Now

This is one of those items that's really straight forward. As the title says, it's a Power Brick. However it also includes power indicator to show you how much power is left in it.

With anything that charges, there are only so many times you can charge it until it begins to hold less and less charges. So unless you know you need a full Charge, it's best to let it go down as low as possible.

It comes with an adapter for Apple products.

HOWEVER you can purchase or use any USB adapters for droids, tablets, etc,

I use it to charge my Droid. The USB adapter I remove from the AC charger and plug it into the iGo. Charging my phone takes over three hours.

I've gotten almost three full charges for my Droid. Then it needs recharging. Recharging from one bar takes just about six hours. I've never been there to get an exact time. Plugs into any standard AC outlet. Two prong.

The bars change colors from when it needs a charge to when it's full and the bars go from one to full.

It's a good product. But know the limitations. When you have no power you will get a a good two charges (and some more) until the "brick" itself need charging. It goes not charge through sunlight or crank.

This is great for a hiking trip or to keep in a bag for an extra phone charge.

iGo is one of the trusted names in travel electronic accessories and when they launch something new, most people in the travel electronics industry pays attention. This product fulfills a number of "wants" and deals with a number of "dislikes" of those who are frequent travelers. However as everyone has different needs, it is ultimately quite subjective. I've listed a few pros and cons below to help you decide if this is what you need.

Pros:

+ Less to forget. It's your power brick and your spare battery

+ Folding plug. Nothing will get scratched in your bag by pokey plugs, and plugs won;t get bent out of shape during transit.

+ Holds enough juice for 2 full charges of an Iphone 4, 4s and Iphone 5.

+ 4 indicator LED lights show how much power is left in the battery, how much it is charging etc.

+ Button next to the LED indicator lights to turn the indicator lights on.

Cons:

Large for how much power it actually stores, but that may be due to the folding plug.

It's fat (wide) so it takes up the space next to it. Assuming you've plugged it in on the end of your power strip.

You need an easily accessible socket or you'll really be crawling behind and moving furniture to find somewhere to plug this in.

If it's behind furniture, it'll easily be forgotten = you've just lost both your spare battery and your power brick.

There are similarly sized backup batteries widely available that can store more power.

Overall whether this is the backup battery for you depends on whether you value:

a) less bits and bobs so fewer things get lost

b) How much power you need

c) How forgetful you are.

d) folding prongs.

e) if you have easy access to a socket when you need to charge this thing.

Over the past few months, I've used this traveling by air, by boat and by train internationally. It was always easy for my traveling companion(s) to find what they needed out of my electronics bag as there was less to dig through. I did have to use international plug adapters, but not voltage adapters as this is dual voltage. There were a few instances where we had to move some furniture to get to a wall socket but overall it served us well over the course of our 5-month trip.

Want iGo Charge Anywhere for iPod, iPhone, iPad, and other USB Devices Discount?

The function of this iGo charger is simple: At home, you plug it into a wall socket to charge it up, and then you take it in your bag wherever you go and it then charges your other electronic devices.

The red indicator lights show when the battery pack is charging, and then go off automatically at a full charge. Recharging the iGo charger takes about 4.5 hours average. It has LEDs to let you know how much battery life is left. You can also simultaneously charge a USB device AND the battery pack itself. You can use it with any gadget that has a USB cord to charge. It takes both USB or min-USB connectors. Also, it comes with a cable for Apple devices.

However, this iGo charger is very large. And, it only has 3400mAh, this is one of the smaller capacity chargers.

There are similar devices at lower price with bigger capacity. I recommend some shopping around before selecting this one.

Revolve Electronics xeMini USB Charger and Battery Backup for iPod, iPhone, and Other Mobile Devices

Revolve Electronics xeMini USB Charger and Battery Backup for iPod, iPhone, and Other Mobile DevicesI admit I got pretty excited reading the very positive reviews on this product. I even went to their web site and read the instruction manual for this product. Every thing seemed really high quality with the web site, instructions and their "philosophy" on this product and their company. When I received the product I was impressed with the minimal packaging and the overall quality feel of the device. I was really excited.

I first charged the device via AC then proceeded to use it to charge up my iPhone 4. I would say it charged from empty to 100% and then ran out of juice. ...This is when the trouble began. I decided to try out the solar panel charger and left the device on my car dash for about one hour one sunny morning. The outside temperature was probably 80-85 F. When I came back after an hour, I was horrified to find that the case had warped pretty severely and the device was extremely hot (I think the battery inside was generating some heat). The top and bottom pieces are separating from the case and warped up and the front is slightly warped towards the solar panels....worst of all, NO charge on the battery. I then took it to work and left it for days near a window of my climate controlled office...no charging at all......I wish I could return this but I threw the box away so its a $70 lessons learned for me.

For something that is "designed" to be charged in the sun, they should have made the product more resilient to sunlight heat.

Buyer beware.

I find the Revolve xeMini to be very handy. I have a non-Apple phone and an iPod, and now I don't have to take two separate chargers around with me when I travel. The fact that it doubles as an emergency backup battery makes this infinitely more convenient than just bringing a charger along... Just keeping this thing charged and with me means my devices won't ever die at inconvenient times. The solar charging feature is a little added peace of mind for situations when plugging in isn't an option, or I just want to be a little "greener." I've seen some of the other reviews bashing the solar side of this, but I think they may have missed the point--solar charging is not the primary function, it is simply an added perk to be used along with wall charging as a little green boost. Considering the amount of energy it takes to charge a smartphone these days, you can't really expect a little solar panel to be the only source of power here.

The construction seems very solid to me... The review that said it warped in the car at 85 degrees probably didn't take into account the fact that the interior of a car heats up to a much higher temperature than the outside, meaning the temperature in the car was likely well above 100 degrees (the instruction manual specifies to avoid temperatures above 104).

I love the look of the unit, and appreciate that the packaging is made from recycled/recyclable materials (plus the company donates a portion of its profits to green causes every year). It's nice to see a company that actually seems to care about being as environmentally responsible as possible.

Okay, so I splurged and got this $70 solar/AC/USB charger. I thought it was a very good "concept" product, and it looked really solid. That is where this fantasy ends...

First of all, it's made in China. For $70, at least make the damn thing in USA.

The bamboo and plastic composite is a nice "green" "idea". Notice I say "idea" cause this plastic is BRITTLE. Meaning, I would hate to find out what would happen if I dropped it. When I opened the battery cover, the latch sheared off into the unit. Now I have a battery door that doesn't latch.

The solar charger is more of a nice emergency "gimmicK" than anything.

The 2200mah charged my 1400mah battery from 20% to full, and that was about it. FAIL!

The ONLY thing this has going for it, is that everything is compact and is one complete unit. As in, A/C charger, battery is all in one unit. The other solar chargers have to have an external AC charger.

PRO:

replaceable battery

solar charger

AC charger built in

2200 mah battery

CON:

even though battery can be replaced, your battery cover latch will shear off

solar needs like 13+hours in the sun to fully charge

AC charger hard to plug into the wall

Was only able to charge my battery from 20% to full, and I have a 1400mah battery

If any of you disagree, just open the battery door cover. I guarentee it'll just shear right off. Would you buy a Ferrari and be Ok with a trunk latch that won't close? I think not....

LOOOOVE IT!!! I looked at all the portable chargers out there and finally decided to get the Revolve xeMini, mostly because of the battery power which is a 2200mah and the small compact pocket size... I couldn't find this on any other charger... Also the actual unit has a plug on the back that flips out and can be plugged directly into the wall without having another messy cable to deal with! Charged it up over nite and was able to charge my iPhone 4 two full times from 0% to 100% and it still had a little juice left (It literally charged my phone super fast as if it was plugged into the wall)... The solar panel takes a little bit longer to charge but Im going camping this weekend and it will be indispensable since I cant charge the phone in the car unless the keys are in it and the engine is on... I'm getting a second one to put in my Emergency Kit... Highly Recommended!

Works very well with iPhone. Doesn't charge my iPad, however. Test will be when the hurricane season cranks up and the island loses power. That is when the solar feature will come in very handy.

Powermate PM0105007 Vx Power Series 6,250 Watt 389cc Gas Powered Portable Generator

Powermate PM0105007 Vx Power Series 6,250 Watt 389cc Gas Powered Portable GeneratorOn June 30, South Jersey was hit by a rare thunderstorm called a derecho, and the damage is the worst I've seen in years. Utility officials say some will be without power for more than a week. Home Depot was open throughout, running on its own generators, and they received a shipment of 220 of these generators when I drove by so I purchased one. Had to add a quart of oil and 6.5 gallons of gas, and it was up and running. Unit ran our huge upright freezer and refrigerator/freezer in the garage, along with our large refrigerator in the kitchen, plus my saltwater fish tank pumps with ease. It ran 12 straight hours on a tank full, and I shut it down before it ran out. Then it ran for 12 more, and I shut it down to change the oil per directions. When the power came back on a few hours later, the unit had run flawlessly for 26 hours. Pros runs perfectly, smoothly, and seems to be well built. Priced fairly. Fuel guage on tank is great. No cons at all. Just remember, have at least 2 quarts or more of oil on hand, since recommended oil change after first 20 hours. Also, purchase numerous 5 gallon gas cans, since you can dump them into your car if not needed. Overall, very satisfied in South Jersey. PS buy heavy duty extension cords if running large appliances. Depot charged $50 each for extremely heavy duty 50 footers, but I want to be prepared for the next crisis.

The generator was delivered within three days of placing the order, and the box was in good condition with just a small punch hole on one of the side walls.

The unit is VERY heavy for its size. A couple of us got it into the garage and proceeded to cut the box away. We used a couple of 2x4 blocks to chock the frame to install the feet and wheels.

The oil filler access is awkward, but they do send a funnel with tube.

No oil is included with the unit, unlike others, so you will need a bit more than a quart of whatever oil you choose [I am using SAE 30].

Once all of the preliminaries are out of the way, and after filling the tank, the unit started on the third pull not quite my Honda lawnmower or snowblower, but not bad. Multimeter is showing full voltage.

It is a bit loud, but it is used outside.

The only unusual thing [per the instructions] is that the unit did not want to start with the choke placed in the 'start' position it started beautifully and smoothly in the 'run' position.

Now I hope I don't have to use it too soon.......

Received generator one week late during Sandy's super storm, generator would not start, no power, no heater, cold and in the dark in New Jersey. Took generator to service center but they could not start the generator no matter how many times they pull it. Try priming generator with gas to start it but it catches fire. Service guy say internal engine problem, engine back fires.

Schumacher XI41DU DC to AC Digital Display Power Inverter

Schumacher XI41DU DC to AC Digital Display Power InverterI run this inverter off a 18AH AGM sealed lead acid battery to power a boombox at the beach. I've used it every weekend for two summers and never had a problem. It gets packed and unpacked with the other beach gear and dragged 1/3 of a mile to the water's edge each trip. I haven't had a problem with sand or summer heat. I do keep it in the shade to keep the sun from heating it up.

The digital display is very useful watts out to the boombox and battery voltage. I've compared the unit's dc battery voltage display to an external volt meter and they are in sync within 0.1 volts so the unit is fairly accurate. It shuts down at a low battery voltage of 10.5 volts exactly as it should. The boom box normally draws about 30 watts (2.5 amps @ 12 volts) and maxium of 60 watts (5 amps at 12 volts). It powers the unit most of the day a function of the battery's capacity. The fan only comes on when needed for cooling so users with a light load like mine won't have annoying fan noise. I have had the fan turn on automatically on heavier loads.

The first thing all users should know all the dual outlet power inverters can only supply half the power rating to each AC receptacle. That is, a 400 watt unit can only power 200 watts to each receptacle. This fact is not usually stated except, perhaps, in the manual.

The second thing all users should know never reverse the plus/minus connections when attaching the battery. Yes safety fuses will blow, but damage will likely occur anyway to sensitive circuits inside and the unit will die.

When using the vehicle's 12 volt accessory port, this inverter is designed to supply 60 to 70 watts when the vehicle is not running. With the vehicle's engine running, it can supply up to 100 watts. To use the full output, you must connect the inverter directly to your battery.(straight out of manual). Inverter works great for us we have 20 trucks and 20 inverters.

Buy Schumacher XI41DU DC to AC Digital Display Power Inverter Now

I have had mine for well over a year now and it has always worked well. How much watage you can get from it when using a lighter socket is a function of your vehicles wiring the unit does not know what it is plugged into. if your load is more than about 100 watts, you should connect it direct to the battery.

Some cheaper units do not shut down the inverter if they detect low voltage. This unit will shut itself off when it detects low voltage. This can be annoying if you are powering something that doesnt care about the quality of output power but for many electronic devices, this feature can save from damaging what you have plugged into it. Again, the detected voltage at the lighter socket has to do with your car's wiring not the inverter (other thah the fact that it has a low voltage shutoff circuit).

I gave it four stars instead of 5 because when it does detect a low voltage condition and shuts off, it doesn't turn itself back on when the voltage returns to normal. For me, this happens when I start the car with the inverter connected directly to the battery. While starting, the voltage goes low for a moment then returns to normal. This means that I have to get out of the car (I use the inverter while parked and keep it undet the hood, connected to the battery), open the hood and press the power button. Perhaps this wouldn't be required if this just had a simple on/off toggle switch.

It's a little big but well worth it if you need the power. Like the digital display showing amount of power it's supplying to your electric device.

I bought this on another website for 20.00. It was an out of box display. It works very well. It has the cigarette lighter hookup option as well as the battery clips for direct connection to battery posts. While this is not a full sine wave inverter, it does the job very well and I really don't have an issue with the particular aspect. For some people that is a must but again I have never has an issue with that. I have run laptops, dvd players, fans, charged cameras and camcorders and more with this. I have used it on long road trips and it has not failed. I real have not had to use the USB port yet.A lot of people have issues on their inverters with this but you have to be careful at what you run and how long you run it off of the inverter when it comes to the USB ports on these things. The USB power output is different than the power you get from the electrical plug outlet or a direct connect to the battery. I would recommend this. You can get it for 30.00 or cheaper if you shop around. Oh...the digital display is nice too.

Retractable Car Charger for Motorola Atrix 4G

Retractable Car Charger for Motorola Atrix 4GThe description was a little tricky on this product. It advertised it as being "rapid", but apparently the "rapid" was in relation to how fast it retracts. The retracting mechanism works a little too well (it snatches back the whole cable in about 1/3 of a second). HOWEVER, I can plug my Motorola Atrix in, not use it at all, and after a 30 minute commute, I don't have any more battery than when I plugged it in.

After using this thing, I can't ever imagine paying for it again. The good news is, it's pretty darn cheap, so I'm not out that much. Still, it's not a charger. At best, it will let your idle phone break even on power consumption.

PROs: Cheap, and retracts the cord very well.

CONs: Doesn't charge at all.

RESULT: If someone bet me to put the "live" end in my mouth, I'd take the bet, because this charger is so weak.

Works just average at first then doesn't charge at all... All that it is good for is holding a charge.

Soladec Hybrid All-in-One Portable Solar Power Charger and External Battery Pack with Integrated Ul

Soladec Hybrid All-in-One Portable Solar Power Charger and External Battery Pack with Integrated Ultra High-Flux LED Light for iPod, iPhone, iPad and Other USB Devices
  • Latest generation ultra efficient monocrystalline solar cell module.
  • Charge most of USB-compatible portable gadgets
  • Built-in high-flux LED lamp for indoor/outdoor activities and SOS use.
  • Built-in rechargeable lithium battery will hold a charge for up to 2 years, making it suitable for emergency use
  • Can be charged from sunlight, USB port or a wall plug

The concept of this Soladec Hybrid All-in-One Portable Solar Power Charger (SD4000LP) is good. Essentially, it is a battery-powered USB charger sized like a typical 7-inch tablet. Its internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery can be recharged either using the solar panel, or through external USB power port. Once charged, you can then use this unit as a portable charger for other USB-powered devices. The unit also features a powerful 6-LED flood light.

Since I'm an engineer, I just HAVE to open the case to see what's inside. I'm quite impressed by the high-quality components found (see the photo I uploaded to 'Customer Images' section):

The internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery is rated 3.7V 4100mAh (the product description says '4000mAh')

The LEDs are mounted on an aluminum-backed PCB. This is great for thermal dissipation (but you don't see this very often due to high cost)

The battery charging/discharging operation is controlled by an 8-bit microprocessor (again, you don't see this often due to high cost). This is very important because, without the correct charging algorithm, a Li-ion battery can be easily damaged by over-charging.

I then tested the unit electrically, and found it to work more or less as expected:

When you recharge the internal battery through a computer USB port, the charging current is at 500mA. This is limited by the current capacity of a standard USB port. So the charge time is around 8-9 hours.

When charging through an external 5V 1A USB power adapter, the battery charging current increases to 0.69A. That means the charge time is reduced to around 6-7 hours.

When charging with the solar panel, the highest charging current I can get is ~350mA. This is under optimal test condition of bright summer sun at noon time, with the panel perpendicular to the sunbeam. In real life, it will take at least two full days of direct sunlight to recharge the internal battery. Also note that if you place the solar panel inside your car, the charging current is cut by half because the car window filters out most of the UV light.

Next, I tried to use this Soladec unit to recharge different types of USB-powered devices. The outcome varies according to the power requirement:

When charging a low-drain USB device (such as the Philips GoGear Aria MP3 Player), the USB device is powered up correctly, but the Soladec's LED indicator light does not cycle to show 'charging in progress'

When charging a medium-drain USB device (such as the Nintendo DSi XL), the device is powered up correctly, and the Soladec's LED indicator cycles to show charging in progress.

When powering a high-drain USB device (such as the VIZIO 8-Inch Tablet VTAB1008), the Soladec's LED indicator still cycles normally, but its output current fluctuates wildly because the maximum current limit is exceeded. This may cause the receiving device to get confused as it constantly enters and then exits charging mode. Actual maximum output current I measured is around 0.81A, even though the product manual says only 0.5A. So at least the product is performing better than specified.

When ON, the LED light draws 200mA from the battery. This means a runtime of 20 hours. However, I'm skeptical about the advertised light output of '170 lumen', as it requires an amazing efficacy of over 200 lumens per watt.

On the other hand, I have noticed some major design flaws with this Solardec charger:

1. There is no on/off switch. The push button switch beside the LED light does not turn off the whole system, only the light. The system is constantly drawing a 3mA standby current from internal battery. Simple calculation shows that this standby current will drain a 4100mAh battery in less than 2 months. So although the product description says the built-in battery will "hold a charge for up to 2 years", in real life you have to recharge it every single month, if you intend to use it in case of emergency.

2. The case is not weather-sealed in any way. In particular, there are no rubber caps for the two USB ports on top. So if it rains, water can easily get in through those openings. That makes it dangerous to leave this solar charger outdoor exposed to direct sunlight. The only safe way is to place it underneath your car's windshield. But doing so also cuts down the solar power by ~50%. So now it takes 4 days to fully recharge the internal battery by solar panel.

CONCLUSION:

The Soladec SD4000LP is a good attempt with quality components inside. But unfortunately, the two major design flaws mentioned above make it less useful either as an emergency power source or as an outdoor solar charger. It does work well as a LED work light, but that can hardly justify its high price tag. That's why I can only give it a 3-star neutral rating, meaning "It's Okay".

[Side note on capacity]

Is the capacity of internal battery (4100mAh) sufficient for you? That depends on the USB device you intend to recharge. For example, my POLAROID 7" INTERNET TABLET has an internal 3000mAh Li-ion battery. So on first glance, the SD4000LP contains more than enough energy to charge up my tablet from empty to 100%. However, the battery charging process has to go though two conversion steps. First, the 3.7V from internal battery is boosted to 5V at the USB port. Next, the 5V is stepped down to around 4V to recharge the tablet battery. Even if each conversion step is 85% efficient, you still lose 30% of energy in the process. That's why you always need 1/3 higher capacity than the device you want to recharge.

Buy Soladec Hybrid All-in-One Portable Solar Power Charger and External Battery Pack with Integrated Ul Now

The biggest problem I found with solar chargers is they never get your phone past 50%, this is the only charger I have found that will take it to 100% in the same amount of time as a wall charger. The battery in the solar unit takes 7 hours to charge plugged in and 12 hours to charge using solar, and it never has any problems keeping up with any of my devises.

I'm a hiker and I'll use the GPS on my iPhone 4S to navigate through to wood in the Sierras, and for all of you iPhone 4S users out there you know how short the battery life can be, it actually drops off on average a percent a minute so I needed a heavy duty solar charger. Even with the high power consumption, as long as I stay plugged in my phone never drops below 100%, even at night when I'm using the GPS and the rediculiously bright light all nigh long. The light is also amazing, from a 12 hour charge it will run 18 hours and will stay bright the entire night. So to sum it all up, I actually couldn't pull more power than it could put out, it always felt like there was a wall outlet in my tent becouse no matter what I did I couldn't kill the thing! It was well worth every penny spent

This is an excellent product. The flashlight is super bright and lasts all night long (if you don't use all the battery for charging your devices). I live on an off-grid sustainable organic farm in Hawaii and I use this every night for reading. It's the first solar USB charger I've ever owned so I have none to compare it with but I am very satisfied and this little gadget meets my particular needs. Hope this is helpful. Oh, and I use it to charge my HTC Resound cell phone.

Update: It does require full sunlight for best results. And now that I'm in a new location that doesn't receive full sunlight it requires much longer to charge a device.

Monster Outlets to Go USB PowerPack

Monster Outlets to Go USB PowerPack
  • Compact and stylish design makes it easy to charge devices in your car
  • Included cigarette lighter adapter provides up to 10W
  • Integrated hybrid charger powers almost any two USB devices at home, in the car or on the go

As a Vine reviewer I take this a bit serious. I am asked to review products and tell you the consumer what is and is not worthy of your hard earned dollars. I must admit I hoped this was going to be an excellent product. But its not and for the price point it is even more disconcerting. To start with understand what this is ...and most importantly isn't.

It is a usb charger. So it can if you have a cord that plugs from your device to this, charge your phone, zune, ipod, kindle, ect. It will replace the need to bring all those seprate chargers...but you still need the cords.

It is not a portable battery pack, power pack, or self contained charger. It "needs" power to make power.

So its a good way to safe packing space right, and cheaper than buying spare power adapter or other usb power plugs for your home or car right?....no...sorry its not. And to boot it takes up 2 spaces on most power outlets so it does not save you there either...

So unfortunately unless you got money to burn and need the "Moster" name...look else where. such as here

One of the expectations of a two port USB charger is that it will let you save space on the number of outlets used. This is unfortunately not the case with this device. The plug is placed in such a way that it isn't possible to use a nearby outlet on a powerstrip. There is some added convenience of a built in car charger (single usb), but it requires taking the charger back and forth with you. There was also a bit of sparking on plugging this in, not much, but other chargers did not do this. It is capable of putting out a decent amount of current, enough for larger devices. Overall though, the convenience is hampered by the design.

To be clear, this is a box about the size of a deck if cards. It has fold out ac prongs to plug into the wall. In that configuration it provides two usb ports for charging with a total of 5w of power. The round usb port can be pried loose from the box and it is a very small single car charger converting your cigarette port into a usb charger. No cables are included.

Negatives the round part can be difficult to pull out with your fingertips or nails; the ac wall prongs cause the adapter to take up most of a normal two plug wall outlet. It is possible to plug in something else above it, but only a slim lamp plug or similar.

Two days after I received this item I took it on a business trip with my iPad and the iPad's bluetooth keyboard. This item has one module that is a car charger--the bottom bit that you see in the picture, which pulls out to use as a car charger. Or, as you see it there in the picture it inserts in the other component which plugs into a standard wall plug unit. This way it has two USB charging ports--perfect for my iPad and keyboard.

It worked fantastically well all weekend under pretty constant use. The unit did get warm, but never hot.

I hadn't realized things like this existed: now I can't imagine traveling without it for my electronics.

My only beef is there are no instructions, but then again, I'm a computer dummy and I figured it out, so...guess it's not that hard! :D

I am wanting to buy these for my family for Christmas!

This new Monster Outlets to Go USB PowerPack is a fascinating device for a number of reasons. To start with, it's a true 2-in-1 charger that will allow you to charge just about any two USB devices at the same time. It has enough punch charge tablets, smartphones, MP3 players, digital cameras and more.

It's truly flexible in that when you plug this PowerPack into a wall outlet or power strip, it offers two USB ports that will deliver up to 15W of power, so you can charge two devices simultaneously. Add to this, when you need true charging for when you're mobile in your car, you can easily remove its built-in cigarette lighter adapter (see the one with the round silver ring) and have a single USB port in your car that provides "up to 10W of rapid-charging power" as noted in the specs, so this gives you very flexible charging options while at home, work or when you're on the road.

The plug has retractable prongs that fold away neatly when not in use, and it also offers one of the narrowest form factors that this user has seen when plugged into a wall or a power strip. Unlike many similar two-port (or even many single-port) USB chargers, the narrow design allows it to be plugged into the same space that you would use for a simple two-prong lamp... it's that narrow.

The Monster Outlets to Go USB PowerPack has the thinnest form factor that this user has found for a two-USB charger, and that make it handy when outlet space is at a premium. Being a hybrid vehicle/wall charger makes it quite versatile, but don't leave the part that goes into the cigarette lighter in your vehicle or the versatility will be lost.
