Cord is tiny and I can see it breaking, actual plug-in tip is very, very tight on my Motorola Android phone, don't know if it will make the port larger or break it all together one day, and I'm sure it won't retract the cord forever. I'm not saying it seems like it was built bad, I'm just saying I don't know what I was thinking buying this for everyday use, and as my first non OEM product I already regret it, but for the price emergency use in my go bag is fine.

Yes, this charger fits the phone and works but sometimes it needs a little "encouraging" to snap in. Takes twice as long as the OEM car charger or about 90 to 120 minutes from dead to full charger. Thus, rapid is a misnomer.

After using this charger a few times my computer would no longer "see" the device as anything but a unknown device. I was forced to send it back to creative for repairs, which cost me $25. Maybe my Zen was a lemon, but it worked great until I used this product.

I just wanted to pass along that this wonderful charger works with the iPhone 3G. It's very difficult to find an affordable third-party charger that is compatible with the iPhone 3G. I just had to return 2 chargers from another manufacturer that would display the charging icon on the iPhone for only 2 minutes and then revert to the "Plugged In" icon which signifies no charge is being provided. this item fits in a true "power point" port. i had previously bought another brand off of amazon, and though it did work it a cigarette lighter in my 80's truck, it was not long enough to work in my 2000's Honda power point.This one fits BOTH styles and seems to put out enough power to charge my digital media player and a Nintendo ds at the same time with no problems. Only weird thing is the media player thinks i plugged it into a computer instead of a usb charger.

unit quit working.the indicator light is still on showing power but it will not charge anything.I have tried many cables and all my usb devices, nada. I leave this plugged in the socket all the time, so perhaps that has something to do with it, however the longest time the car was on non stop was only an hour,and nothing was charging then. worked great for less than 2 months, now nothing.........

This is a review for Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone

I'm not one to take my time to write reviews, but after purchasing three of these speakerphones I thought maybe it would be helpful to tell you why this is the best speakerphone I have ever used.

We live in California and, by law, have to have our Cell Phones connected by Bluetooth if we use them in the car. I have probably used 4-5 different brands and configurations in the past 5 years all with mixed results, until I came across the Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone. I really dislike using in-ear Bluetooth devices (for many reasons, but mainly because they interfere with hearing and make you look like a . . . . ). Speakerphones I have used in the past (including the less expensive Jabra products) seemed to never clearly pick-up my voice and transmit it to the caller. When I purchased my first Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (after reading a glowing CNET Review) I started using it as soon as I charged it for a couple of hours. It is the easiest, most user friendly product I have bought in a long time.

Getting up and running requires:

1. Charge unit (USB)

2. Turn on Cell Phone and put in pairing mode

3. Turn on Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone it will find the phone and announce "Connected"

4. That's it, your done.

Now to use it you only have to do one thing and remember 2 words:

1. Attach the Speakerphone to your visor and turn it on.

2. Remember 2 words when it announces by name an incoming call. a) Answer (connects you to an incoming call) or b) Cancel (phone goes straight to you voice answer message).

It really is that easy. There is a lot more that the Speakerphone will do, and there is a one year subscription to a second party company that keeps all your contacts + more so you can call one number and transfer to anyone in your contacts, send text, etc. But you really don't need to know or use any of that.

Oh, I forgot, the main reason I like the Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone is that my clients have no clue that I am even on a Bluetooth device when I talk to them in the car. No extraneous noise, no wind noise, just a clear voice. That, plus the ease of use is why I keep buying more of these and giving them to my wife, children, etc.

Did I mention that once you turn the Jabra Freeway on you don't have to touch/recharge it for a month or more (my experience, moderate use). It turns itself on when I get in the car, and turns itself off when I exit (motion detector).

Pros: All of the above. Plus, iTune music sounds pretty good through the 3 speakers and podcasts are great (you can also transmit the music/podcast to you FM radio) the Speakerphone "knows" to to stop the music/podcast if a call comes in.

Cons: It takes a couple of minutes for the speakerphone to turn-off automatically when you you leave the car. For a short time, if you are fairly close to the car (in you home or office) the unit still picks-up calls. This has happened to me only once, and my iPhone asks if I want to not use the Bluetooth on the screen, so it really is a minor annoyance.

I got the Freeway along with my iPhone 4S. It connected easily, and reconnects every time I get into my car. I sit down, and by the time I turn the ignition, it's reconnected (and lets you know by saying so). It works great as a speakerphone, callers sound good and I sound good to them. The volume goes up pretty high so you can still hear fine if you have a loud car. If you press and hold the big phone button for about 2 seconds, Siri will activate if you have it on your iPhone. Siri will use the Freeway's mic and speaker to talk to you. It's great to just press the button overhead and be able to have all of Siri's functions. If you're listening to music while you activate Siri, the music will fade out, and when you're done with it, the music fades back in.

Playing music is fairly mediocre through the speaker. While I didn't expect amazing sound out of the tiny package, it's hardly the amazing surround sound that Jabra advertises. Most songs are going to sound fine, but if you have anything with heavy bass, it gets pretty distorted. It's good enough to listen to music on my commute, and more than enough to listen to podcasts with.

The battery life is great, I seem to be getting the full 14 hours. Playing music counts as talk time, and when you check the battery status, the Freeway gives it to you in terms of talk time left. So if you have a full charge and drive a half hour with music, it'll tell you that you have 13 1/2 hours of talk time left. Since it shuts off soon after you get out of your car, it's not draining battery while idle.

As a side note, the unit won't shut up if you flip your visor down. I've never had it shut off on me while I had the visor flipped down facing both the windshield and the side window. You just have to be careful not to mash buttons when you're gripping the visor.

Overall it's good as a speakerphone, extension of Siri, and voice-only audio such as podcasts. Music could sound better, but I understand there's only so much you can get out of a tiny speaker. I haven't used any other Bluetooth speakerphones to compare this to, but I'm pretty happy with it.

The Jabra Freeway is very sleek and comes with a free and optional one-year subscription to VoiceAssist.

Setting the unit up was easy.

1. Before I could use the Jabra Freeway, I charged it for two hours using the supplied USB cable with car charger.

2. Next I made sure the cell phone was Bluetooth-enabled and turned on the Jabra unit.

3. It immediately went into pairing mode. As it is pairing with the phone device, the prompts on the phone needed to be followed and the supplied security code had to be entered (not everyone will have to enter a security code; it depends on the phone)

4. After this I began making and answering calls using voice commands, checking the battery power of the unit, etc. To make a call, I had to press the Voice button to wake up the unit and say "phone commands." If I was unsure of how to speak to the unit I would say "What can I say?" and it would give me options.

What I found very frustrating was:

1. Once I was done with a call, ending the call is not hands free. I couldn't say "hang-up, or cancel, or end" because that doesn't work. Instead I had to press the "answer end button" (which is the "phone icon" on the Jabra device) or end the call via the phone end button.

2. I also disliked having to press the Voice button every time I wanted to make a call because this meant it was not totally hands free. The only hands free part is if someone is calling you, the unit then automatically awakes and you can tell it to "answer" or "ignore" the incoming call.

3. Many times I asked the unit to make a call. Twice it brought up the EZ tip calculator, once it brought up the one-minute beep "application," and another time it brought up some other application on the phone that I didn't ask for. Another time I tried to call someone and instead it brought up the address book and rambled off both the mobile and work number without giving me the option to dial either one.

What I really loved was the optional VoiceAssist package even though I had difficulty getting this set up because the code to redeem the free one-year subscription was hidden underneath a sticker either Amazon or the manufacturer put on the box. However, VoiceAssist has the best live customer service around. In fact we called each other almost five times to get this situation resolved in a few hours. Hopefully, new purchasers won't have this experience where the offer code is hidden between stickers and impossible to read even after being held up to the light.

Below are the steps I took to get VoiceAssist to work:

1. I had to first redeem the free offer code on the box by going to [....].

2. Once signed in online to [....], I imported all my Gmail contacts into the VoiceAssist application and also set up a connection to my review_maven twitter account ([....]).

3. Once registered and after I cleaned up the Gmail import which had about an 85% accuracy rate, I then needed to program the number of 949-257-0923 under the name of VoiceAssist into the Bluetooth phone.

4. After this I had a lot of fun:

I used the Jabra unit to call VoiceAssist.

Once connected I used another set of VoiceAssist commands to "call" people in my contact list (they had to have a phone # in the Gmail contact listed that was imported), to "post to Twitter," to "read my e-mail" on Gmail--which it read very well (except it said it couldn't read the pictures), and to send an email, which it sent okay though some of my message was garbled. However, since an MP3 was attached to the email, the person receiving it could play that to get the full message.

The two posts to my Twitter account were okay, buy it got VoiceAssist wrong and typed voices instead and it typed Jabra as Java. You can look on the review_maven account to see the posts for May 28. 2011.

I didn't have the phone functionality to try the FM Transmitter or play music features of the Jabra device.

Below are some of the key features that I liked and some things I disliked:

PROS:

1. The Jabra unit is pretty easy to set up

2. The Jabra Freeway has a long battery life (about 14 to 17 hours)

3. You can pair two Bluetooth phones to the device with the last phone paired being the primary one

4. Jabra Freeway comes with a car charger for charging in your vehicle or with a 12Volt Battery Pack; the USB cable that is used to plug in the car adapter can be used without the adapter for charging with your PC

5. A free one-year subscription to VoiceAssist is supplied with purchase

6. Voice Assist understands commands better than the Jabra unit itself

7. I could check and send email and post to Twitter with VoiceAssist (Posting to Facebook is also possible.)

8. VoiceAssist provides SUPERB customer service.

CONS:

1. VoiceAssist setup was difficult and the instructions that came with the device did not tell you to program in the telephone number to VoiceAssist. Instead the Jabra instructions tell you to call VoiceAssist making you assume it's already pre-programed in the device.

2. Managing your contacts online in the VoiceAssist web site is somewhat cumbersome as the tool is in its infancy. For instance, every time I edited one of my 100+ contacts it kept going back to the first one after I saved the edit--then I had to scroll through the entire list again to go back to where I wanted to in the contact list.

3. Answer/End button is not intuitive on the Jabra unit (it's the phone icon on the Jabra Freeway); although the instructions do tell you where it's located.

4. The Jabra Freeway did not always understand my voice commands Voice Assist understood my commands much better but that still was not perfect)

5. Jabra is from the UK and only an automated help line is provided along with a website. Other than this you can send an email and wait for a response--no live support here

In summary, although Jabra will work with any Bluetooth phone, I did not feel I could get it to work exceptionally well with the Verizon LG phone I tried it with. I cannot be sure whether it was because of my or my boyfriend's voices (as we both tried it), the phone, or just the functionality of the device. Despite this, the Jabra Freeway is a very sleek unit and I felt that it responded better the more familiar I got with the device. In addition, the other reviewers are raving about the Freeway. Although VoiceAssist was not perfect, I absolutely loved that optional add-on.

Updated May 30, 2011 I sent an email to Jabra with two simple questions to see how responsive their email support was and I can tell you it's great. I sent it over the weekend and got a response this morning. The only thing that wasn't great was that one of my simple questions was answered wrong. I had asked where the answer/end button was and according to the manual it is the phone icon on the Jabra device; however the reponse I got was to "Slide the On/Off power switch to turn the speakerphone on or off" so the question was either misunderstood or the tech did not know the answer. I think it's the former.

Updated November 7, 2011 I recommended this to a former colleague and this is what he said about the device verbatim. "Regarding the Jabra device, it has worked very well. I will admit, I have not used any of the advanced features much (other than initially playing with them) as honestly I have not needed them. It has strictly been used as a straight bluetooth device and for that purpose it has worked extremely well. The speaker quality is above and beyond competing devices and the functionality (recognizing bluetooth connections regularly, turning off when it doesn't detect a device, etc) are features that are useful and allow it to stick out from the pack of competing devices. Overall, it has proven useful when I needed it."

I don't give 5 stars that often, but I love this thing.

The calls are very clear as advertised and they can hear me fine as well. It's fantastic being able to finally answer calls hands free in the car; no having to have an earpiece or anything.

I love that you can connect two Bluetooth devices at once; I don't have a smartphone, but I can connect my basic cellphone with Bluetooth to this device, as well as my iPod Touch to send music to it!

The size makes it great to take it with you anywhere and use it as a speakerphone/speakers at home.

It looks great on the sun visor of the car, as well on a desk.

There is also a built-in FM transmitter. Personally, the transmitter doesn't seem that much of an advancement to send a clear strong signal than other FM transmitters that I've owned (still getting a static or fuzzy sound on a higher volume), but still, it is definitely a nice bonus to have!

The device is also firmware upgradeable if there are any improvements in the future.

It uses a Micro USB to charge.

If you ever feel like using your cellphone in the car, when you think about the safety and traffic ticket costs, this product is a no brainer worthy investment. The versatility of this product being suitable for home use just makes it even better. Fantastic design.

Jabra I stand up and give you a standing ovation for the Jabra Freeway Speakerphone. I previously was using the Jabra CRUISER2 Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone but sadly had to give it up to my dear husband who refused to use a headset. I did not mind because this way I was able to acquire the newer model. The Jabra Freeway is the newest model since the Cruiser 2. It is a tad bit larger, but offers a few more features such as automatic turn on and off with the built-in motion sensor, and acoustically optimized HD quality microphones and surround sound speakers. You pretty much give all the commands by your voice. For example when you call comes in, you can just say "answer" or "ignore". If you want to make a call, just hit the "Voice" button once and say "phone commands", then say "call mobile". It is that easy. That is one big difference between the Cruiser 2 and the Freeway. With the Cruiser 2 you had to hold and count the seconds on the action button to make it do certain commands such as last redial or voice dial. With the Freeway everything is done with the touch of one button and I don't have to hold it for 1, 2 or 3 seconds!

I got so excited about talking about the actual usage of the speakerphone that I almost forgot to mention the setup. I am using it with the Verizon iPhone 4G and setup with so simple it took less than one minute. The automated programmed voice is very clear to hear and understand. This is the first time I have had to actually turn the volume down on a speakerphone because it was too loud! The sound is crystal clear. I really do not know how anyone can give this item a bad review unless it does not work with their particular brand of phone. in regards to the FM transmitter functions, it works as well as other types of transmitters I have tried. There is NO wireless FM transmitter out there that is not going to be static free. Think about, the only way is be able to be static free is to be directly plugged into your radio and not be "wirelessly". This speakerphone will be primarily used for phone calls and not for my the FM transmitter. I can hear perfectly loud and clear by the units speakers and have no need to be using it to play my iTunes music through it. the speakers alone will be sufficient for me to hear my calls loud and clearly.

Now lets get to the Voice Assist. Forget about it. Not worth it. I did sign up for it since it is a free trial offer for one-year but I don't see any use for it. I asked myself do I really need to urgently send someone a text message or post a status on Facebook? Is it that important that I can't wait till I am out of the car and on my computer, iPad or iPhone. I can wait I am not that important to be posting about my life's every moment for all to know. Also, what most might not realize is that you have to call a landline phone number that uses airtime off your cellular plan in order to use the Voice Assist. Signing up was not as much of a hassle as some made it sound. Just make sure to read the instructions on the Voice Assist website and you should have no problems. You have to download the firmware upload and apply it, THEN enter your UPC code after the firmware update is applied. This is for units purchased from Amazon ONLY.

YOU WILL LOVE THIS SPEAKERPHONE. I am curious to see what is next for Jabra since I can not imagine how something so perfect could be improved. Well now that I think about it, maybe they will come up with "Park Assist" on their next units. :-)

EDIT: I almost forgot to add one more thing. This comes with a really nice long micro USB cord. Not one of those "bungee" ones either. It is straight and long enough to fit plugged into a 12V that is inside my center console glovebox while charging the speakerphone still clipped to my sunvisor (while parked of course).

This product arrived in a short amount of time and was exactly as pictured. The sound quality is much better than the stock Blaupunkt (alleged) speakers in my car and the amperage handling was compatible with the Sony WX-GT77UI head unit that I installed which pushes 17 watts RMS and 52 watts peak per channel. I installed them in the front doors of a 2004 GTO and didn't really need to cut out the backing cups (as suggested on Crutchfield) after having attached the provided wires first. It was snug but fit fine.

Purchased this product for my wife for Christmas. She travels a lot and has a terrible time finding an outlet to charge her phone at the airport. So far so good, the little device works great and we love the size. We hike and backpack so we chose the unit with the solar charger though she'll use the AC charge most of the time. The only complaint was the storage pouch. We opted for a hard sided case which was smaller and easier to pack. Make the storage pouch hardier and this unit would be perfect. BTW, check out my review on the TekFuel MD, I purchased it first. A piece of crap.

I was very excited to received this product as I was tired of wasting so many batteries. And it is a pain to constanctly remove your rechargable batteries from the keyboard just to charge them. Upon receiving the product, the battery did not fit inot the keyboard as the thread did not match. After research, I discovered that there was a 2nd generation Apple wirleless keyboard. I bought the new keyboard and the battery fit perfectly. I let the keyboard charge; however, it would never power on. To make sure I didn't have a defective keyboard I tried the keyboard with regular batteries and it work perfectly.

This product was a great idea; however very poor execution. This was a total waste of my money and time.

A time ago I bought from you a keyboard and mouse charger but still that time I have been trying it and the mouse battery that cames with don't work. I don't have any problem with the keyboard charger, it do work great but the mouse one looses the reception and the mouse seems to be disconected but it isn't and I normaly place the mouse really close the my keyboard, computer and the charger I bought from you. Like many iPod users, I wanted a way to make listening to and charging my iPod in the car easier. The iSimple IS75 adapter makes this possible in any car with a stereo that can support an AUX input via RCA jacks. (If you aren't sure, check your owner's manual or look up your car and "AUX input" online before purchasing this, and note that some otherwise compatible radios may require additional adapters.)

The adapter consists of a small molded plastic block with a permanently attached RCA-type patch cord for connection to your stereo, a pair of power wires for connecting to your car's electrical system if you want to be able to charge your iPod/iPhone, a longish (perhaps 6 feet) cord with an Apple interface plug to connect to your device, and an equally long cord with a generic stereo mini-plug to connect any device with a headphone jack.

Installing the adapter was straightforward: plugging in the two RCA plugs was all that was required to make the sound connection. If you want to charge your iPod/iPhone, you will also have to connect the adapter to an available power source in your dashboard.

Playback is easy and provides MUCH better sound quality than FM modulators or similar adaptors. Using the iPod interface plug means you don't have to worry about fiddling with the volume on both the iPod and the car stereo to get the best quality: just use the car's volume control as usual. The charging capability is a huge benefit, and this adapter is one of the few out there that can charge all generations of dockable iPods and iPhones. Many newer Apple devices will not charge from older adapters that use a different charging standard.

The only reason I gave the IS-75 4 stars instead of 5 relates to the otherwise great charging capability. Using the charging feature can also introduce background noise caused by electrical interference. I easily remedied this by plugging in a "ground loop isolator" between the IS-75 and my stereo. Had the IS-75 built-in this easily forseeable and commonly required feature, it would have been perfect.

This item includes both L/R RCA male plugs as shown PLUS a 3.5mm male stereo plug. The 3.5mm is typically what you want for cars that have an AUX input jack.

This item also includes 12V and GND wires for power to charge your i-device. Nice here is that you don't need a separate charger connector everything passes through the i-device dock connector. To install for power, just access some kind of accessory power that is switched on when the ignition or the stereo is on. I used the 12V power plug in the dash of my wife's 2008 Honda Odyssey. Just remove the center console and gently splice the kit's two wires into those 12V and GND wires feeding the power plug, and you're good. Takes 30 minutes or less with a screwdriver, sharp utility knife, and electrical tape (I also soldered the connections for better electrical and mechanical contact).

There was also plenty of cable in my installation to pass the i-device dock connector through one of the console compartments, and the 3.5mm plug under the bottom of the console, where it can easily be plugged into the Odyssey's stereo AUX input jack when needed.

Audio quality is great, it charges nicely (iPads, too) and no funny warning messages in your i-device when you connect like I've seen in the past with this thing in my old 2005 Honda CRV: USA-Spec PA15-HON2 Honda to iPod Interface. Sweet.

Bought this cable to interface with my Kenwood KDC-MP4028 HU and CA-C1AUX adapter. I am using with a 3rd generation iPod Touch. Installation was very easy. I didn't have any problems with ground loops. Since I integrated my deck to the factory harness, I have no idea where the actual ground connection is on the vehicle chassis, so I did the next best thing, I grounded the IS75 to the radio itself. The ground wire on the IS75 has a ring on it already, so I just took a screw out of the radio chassis and replaced it with the ring underneath. The power wire is spliced into the same switched power wire to the radio, so that the iPod only charges when the car is on.

Sound quality is very good, with no engine whine. I also no longer have to worry about scratched CD's, or carrying a CD wallet in the car.

The cable is long enough so that routing is not an issue. My deck is high on the dash, and I ran it all the way to the floor and still have 3 feet to work with.

The dock conector has locking pins, so it won't become disconnected accidentally. Press the buttons on both sides to release.

This is my 2nd cable that has gone out in exactly a year! The cables suffer from poor quality and my left channel went out on both of the cables, on the 1/8th jack and also the 30 pin, although not at the same time (I guess that's a good thing?) Plus the 30 pin connector is way oversized, probably designed this way to have a longer life in the car, however only fits with ONE iPhone 4S case that I have used. Can't even return the product anymore through Amazon...have to go through iSimple warranty now.

i had a cord similar to this that i used with my old ipod, but when i got an ipod touch, it no longer charger it. this cord was perfect: it charged my new ipod, plugged into the dock for line out audio, AND it had 3.5mm input too, so i could play pandora music off my phone if the songs on my ipod got old. this cord is perfect, has very good build quality, and is a good price.

Not much to say. Plugged it in and initially it seemed OK. After a couple of days it quit working. Could wiggle things and get it going again, but something had come loose inside and I didn't feel like fixing the thing. Drift Innovation HD170 Stealth Action Camera with HD Recording, 4x Digital Zoom and 1.5-Inch LCD Sc

I've had a chance to play around with the new Drift HD170 Stealth camera for a few weeks now and made a quick video just to show a few things I've tried with it. What makes it "stealth," I guess, is the new sleek black design (the casing of the unit is made from a durable black rubberized plastic). The bright orange face of the older model did likely call some attention to itself, and for some uses (i.e. stealth uses) that's a drawback. While the older model's bright colored face made it look fun, I think I do prefer the solid black and can see why they opted for it. The feature that makes this camera really stand out from other similar POV or "extreme sports" cameras, though, is the onboard LCD screen, that allows you to see what you are going to be capturing on the spot, so you can arrange the camera just as you like; it also allows you to go through the menu on the spot and adjust options depending on your needs at the moment. (You can set things up in the menu so that the LCD turns off after a minute of being unused so as to prolong the life of the battery).

What's struck me is that the real value of this camcorder is its combination of a rugged and durable design with its versatility. It's emphasized for use with extreme sports but it's useful pretty much anywhere you wouldn't risk another more fragile camera. It's water and weather resistant not water proof so you could use it in light rain, maybe even during a hurricane if it was securely mounted, but certainly in extreme conditions where you'd be worried about a standard camcorder. (I've heard that Drift Innovation the company that makes these will be coming out with a fully waterproof case for the Stealth some time soon so that you can add cliff diving and snorkeling to the list of extreme sports you can capture subjectively with the Stealth) The camera comes with three different mounts one that you can secure to any kind of narrow belt (and it comes with an elastic belt), one that you can put on a handlebar, and one that you can secure to a helmet with the included velcro adhesives. It's easy to orient the camera, even if you've got it mounted in an odd spot the shooting orientation can be changed simply by rotating the lens manually, and the quick release mount can also be rotated so that the unit can be oriented however you like with respect to the mount.

I'm not much of an extreme sports guy but I can see where this would come in handy for various types of video projects other than extreme sports, and I tried to illustrate a few possible uses in the video. You can mount it on a bike, a motorcycle, a skateboard, or on a 12-foot-long paint pole elevated over a car (as I did in the attached video, using the handlebar mount attached to the end of the pole). Obviously, I wouldn't want to put my Canon VIXIA HFS10 on top of a long pole like that because if it dropped or bumped into something it would almost certainly be damaged. While the Stealth is not damage proof it's a lot more rugged than a standard camera, and so it works great in lots of precarious situations. I used to think that when I needed an extreme shot the best option would be a relatively inexpensive camera like my Flip, that I could more afford to have damaged than my nicer camera but with this one the risk of serious damage is significantly diminished.

You can shoot decent photos (5 megapixels and they look fine, but as you'd expect on a device that's tailored for video capture they don't really compare to the images you'd capture on a compact camera in this price range expect a few notches up from the quality you'd capture on a phone and you won't be disappointed), and very cool time lapse sequences (with shooting intervals from 3 to 30 seconds apart), plus it takes surprisingly good HD video for such a small camera. It's not as nice or as versatile as my Canon, but the video is at least as good or better than what I can capture on my Flip Mino HD plus it's got a much wider lens, which is ideal for "point of view" shooting. At 720p it captures a 170 degree view, and it's got a bit of a fisheye effect which is kind of nice, it looks very cool with POV sports footage but could be effective in other applications as well. At 1080p it captures a slightly narrower range of 120 degrees, and there's less distortion, but not as many options for frame rates. At 720p you can shoot at frame rates from 25fps to 60, and shooting at 60fps allows you to slow the footage down in an editing program without things looking jerky as they would if you'd shot at a standard 30fps and then played back at an effective 15 frames per second. At 1080p you can shoot either 25 or 30fps. (You can also shoot standard definition video if you like). The video is encoded with H.264 in a Quicktime (.mov) wrapper so it's easy to import and play or edit in a variety of applications.

One other nice feature is that the set comes with a remote control "watch" you can wear it on your wrist (it's got a velcro band) and it has two buttons: for record and stop. There's a bit of a time lag on the stop function it takes a couple seconds and sometimes I've found I've had to press the button twice to get it to respond, but otherwise it works quite well. The weak element on the camera is the onboard mike it doesn't capture clear sound at all. It's noisy and would really only work as reference and not playback. In other words if you spoke into the mike or near the mike you would be able to hear what you'd said assuming you weren't on a motorcycle, or free falling from high altitudes and it might help you to remember something but you wouldn't want to even consider including the audio in a completed video. The main reason for the weakness of the mike seems to be that its input is protected by a rubber seal in order to ensure the water resistance of the unit. The real value of this camera is in capturing video you wouldn't be able (or willing) to capture in other ways. There is another option with this camera that not all cameras of this type allow, which is to plug in an external microphone but I'm pretty sure the input is proprietary, which means you either have to buy the mike from Drift or you have to buy one of the input cables for your mike from them. When you do use an external mike you have to keep the rear hatch of the camera open and Drift sells a kind of silicon boot to help keep things sealed and protected when the mike is connected and the door is open.

The Stealth is not a one-size-fits-all camcorder that will meet every need and wouldn't by any stretch replace a standard camcorder for ordinary shooting, especially given its fixed, extremely wide lens and its substandard onboard mike but it can capture images you'd never dream of trying to capture with your standard camcorder. If all you want to do is capture extreme sports from the point of view of the athlete, or other extreme images that would put an ordinary camera at risk, this would be a very good option. For someone like me, who only rarely has a need for "extreme sports footage," I know I won't use this all the time, but I'm very happy to have it in my "bag of tricks" because, as I think my little video shows, it's a very versatile camera that can capture some very cool and fairly good quality images and video that could fit nicely into a wide range of different kinds of video projects.

I've owned just about every helmet cam on the market and I even sell the GoPro HD Hero on my site and this is by far the best camera I've owned to date.

The thing I like about it most is the ease of use. The menu is like any other PAS camera instead of hieroglyphics like the GoPro and yes I have the LCD on my GoPro and it's still a pain to use. It does take great video but no better than the drift.

I love that I can adjust the mic on the drift and pretty much turn it off if I want to and I can add a remote mic. I have one but have yet to use it. No more clanking from the mount like the GoPro either.

The battery outlast the GoPro and it seems to have great video compression. Long videos have pretty small file size. I took a 48:00 video and it was just under 3 gig.

About the only thing I don't care for is the helmet mount. I haven't used it yet but it's not that clean of a mount, I do like the GoPro better for that. I wound up putting a RAM ball on mine and that's pretty much all I use. All and all I love this thing.

Camera arrived and straight out of the box had a faulty microphone. Had a play with it for a few days waiting to hear back from Drift Support and found the picture quality to be excellent. Really liked the good clear images and colour was spot on. Although, I soon found that a fully charged battery would drain overnight if left in the camera (even though the camera was switched off).

Thinking I just had a dud unit, and given the quality of picture, I decided to go through the Amazon returns process and had a replacement shipped out.

Amazon were excellent in how they dealt with the return and replacement. No complaints on that front (Drift on the other hand, took more than a week for their Support people to reply to my emails to tell me that it was faulty and then they passed the buck back to Amazon).

Replacement unit arrived today and upon switching it on I notice the picture is absolutely stuffed, making everything look like a psychedelic music video from the 70's. Back to emailing Drift Support. This time I won't wait for a week for their response. If I haven't heard back by tomorrow it's on it's way back for a refund this time.

You really have to ask yourself where is the quality control? Does Drift not test each unit before it's packaged?

Two cameras and two different problems straight out of the box.

It's disappointing because the Drift is the only one of the top 3 (GoPro/Contour/Drift) that offers external mic and reviewing screen facility.

I won't risk another replacement.

Looks like I'll be switching my allegiance to one of the other two brands.

UPDATE: Received a GoPro HD this week and most impressed with the quality of build and the video taken to date. The mounting system is a little fiddly but not entirely unusable. Changing camera settings was awkward at first but after clipping on the LCD BacPac it was much more simple.

I've just bought a Contour HD as well ($138) and will test that out when it arrives.

I did my research on Go-Pro, Contour and Drift Hd170. What sold me to get the Drift HD170 was a couple of things.

2-LCD Display

3-Remote Control

4-Water Resistant

5-The use of a standard size SDHC flash memory card

6-FULL HD 1080P option

7-Has a universal screw mount on the bottom for tripods.

8-All the necessary attachments I needed to PLAY is included on the package! With the exception of the waterproof casing. OVERALL I AM PRETTY STOKED!!

So as I compared each product, this was the winner. I can rig it when I climb. Once I have the funds, I am going to purchase a waterproof case so that I can use it for surfing.

The setup menu options are pretty easy. Very user friendly, well at least to me :)

I just wished that the zoom capability worked for the HD 1080p settings.

My husband and I live at the Oregon coast and we love to ride our quads in the sand! I wanted to try this camera for following my hubby around on trails, going up and down hills, wheelie-en, jumpin' at the tops of dunes, brodies, etc. The hero camera looked a little bulky, because it sticks out so much when its mounted, and this little guy looked like it might be a little more streamlined for going through hairy stuff. Its FANTASTIC!!! It works awesome, the sound is good, the picture is clear, and I can't even tell I have it on my helmet. This camera is totally worth it if you want something that isn't going to draw a lot of attention, and you can mount it almost anywhere. Get out and do something, whoo hoo!!
