I bought this charger expecting it had at least 1A capacity, as I have seen in other gps wall chargers for fast charge time. But I was dissapointed when I recived it and noted that it had only 500 mAH wich is the capacity that any cellphone has. I have other two similar cellphone chargers in home. I think I waisted my money this time. :(Read Best Reviews of JacobsParts Home Wall Charger for Garmin Nuvi GPS 1200 1300 1400 2555LMT Here

This little power supply is light, small and efficient. If you have your GPS off the car for use on, say, your golf cart or while walking, this will keep it charged for you overnight. It can also be used to charge cellphones, etc.Do not buy. This charger does not work all the time. When plugged in it will charge, but often my garmin will switch to "on" mode instead of charging--thus losing its power. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in will switch it back to charging, but this is inconvienent as I'd like to be able to charge my garmin without monitoring it.Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Motorola T5950 5-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios (Pair)

- 22 Channels, 99 Codes
- NOAA Weather Channels
- Rechargeable ready with NiCd Batteries, transformer and Two-Pocket Desktop Charger
- 10 AudibleCall Tones, VibracallAlert, Keypad Lock and Talk Confirmation Tones
- Audible Low Battery Alert and Battery Meter
As an outdoor enthusiast, I placed the "regarded" Motorola T5950R FRS/GMRS 2-way radio pair on my Christmas list. While attempting to acquire this set in a chain sporting goods store, my father was "steered" to the alleged Motorola model T6500 by a store associate who said that model was a new replacement for the T5950. After being informed of this, I decided to do some web research, and interestingly found that the model T6500 was NOT to be found ANYWHERE on the Motorola web site.
Seems the T6500 is a "licensed knockoff" of the T5950 by Motorola's mainland-Chinese electronics manufacturer. The units look the same except for the face plate color (Yellow=T5950 / Khaki=T6500). The features are identical--as is the packaging. Only a small indication on the rear of the T6500 package discloses that the product is "Manufactured and sold by Giant International, Ltd., official licensee for this product." Furthermore, it is warranted and supported EXCLUSIVELY by the MANUFACTURER-NOT MOTOROLA!
Now...To the "differences"...and there ARE some-ALL performance related. While Motorola may license their name, logo, and design to an offshore OEM producer, you can be sure that they reserve their customer support AND several technical enhancements for models THEY specifically brand and market.
A side by side comparison between the genuine Motorola T5950 and its T6500 "imposter" reveals several performance issues. The T5950 has relatively good coverage (considering the communications class); audio loudness and clarity that are sufficient for reliable reception on a congested and "spotty" broadcast service; and NOAA Weather Station reception that is fairly good...even 30-50 miles from the desired station. I did not compare the T6500s transmit-receive coverage, but its audio quality and "punch" are WELL BELOW that of the "genuine" T5950. Furthermore, Weather Band reception on my T6500 sample (both units in the set) was very nearly NONFUNCTIONAL.
In conclusion: It is well worth spending a few bucks more for the "Real McCoy" genuine Motorola T5950 (I actually spent $4 LESS with a rebate here on Amazon). You'll appreciate the "domestic support", improved transmit audio quality, and a weather receiver that actually may save your life when you're out on the water!

These are terrific little units with awesome range.I keep a pair in every car I have for trips to Costco, the Mall, Seaworld or wherever.
My only complaint if the NiCAD batteries. They do get a memory if you don't use them a lot. NiMHD would have been a better choice considering the way you'll likely use them. The batteries will lose their charge whe sitting unused so they are less available for last minute emergency use.

Everyone please understands that getting the FCC license for any GMRS radio does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to increase the range of the radio. The license is a piece of paper so the FCC may track who is using GMRS frequencies, nothing more. They used to do the same for CB users in the 70's. They do not track FRS freqs because of the low output power of FRS radios. Range is affected by output power of the radio but mostly by obstacles between you and the other radio. Trees, walls, buildings, hills, etc. reduce the range considerably. A true test of range is on open water or unobstructed Line-Of-Sight from one hilltop to another. (Not everyone has a boat) Buy three different sets from different brands and try them near a lake to test, return the ones that are not to your liking.Want Motorola T5950 5-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios (Pair) Discount?
I took a pair of T5950 on a 2 week trip. Using 2300mah nimh batteries, they last more than a day. The sound quality was very good. Remember, don't crank the speaker volume to max, this actually distorts the sound. When in the city, I was able to use the T5950s about 10 street blocks apart. The sounds was very clear.By the way, I saw a comment on Motorola "imposter" and "licensed knockoff" by HippoRadio here. HippoRadio clams T5950 is a true Moto product, while other models like T6500 are "a licensed knockoff of the T5950 by Motorola's mainland-Chinese electronics manufacturer". He came to this conclusion because "a small indication on the rear of the T6500 package discloses that the product is Manufactured and sold by Giant International, Ltd., official licensee for this product."
Since I was looking to buy more Moto's radios, just to verify, I emailed Motorola asking which models are made by Moto themselves.
Here is the official reply from Motorola's customer service Marisol R on Jun 03, 2005. It seems, in fact, ALL talkabout radios are made by Giant International based in China. Any quality difference between models are just due to different designs, quality control, etc., and not due to different manufacturers.

--Very nice looking pair of radios, but distance was not impressive. Walking in a residential area which was relatively flat, the radios maybe had distance of about 3/4 mile before transmission began breaking up. That was disappointing considering the advertising suggested "upto 5 miles." Maybe they tested them in the middle of the Arizona desert or something. I'm probably going to return these and try to get something with greater range.

Icom IC -A6 Com Radio

The IC-A6 is my second Icom radio. I purchased my first Icom somewhere in the '90s. I regret that I don't remember the model number, but it was somewhat larger than the IC-A6, gave me 12 years of good service, and was superior in every respect, including the size. How can larger be better? Read on, I'll explain.
As I said, the IC-A6 is smaller than the old unit. This would be a nice feature, but Icom completely negated any size advantage with bad belt hook design. It's a huge alligator-clip device. To hold the radio in your hand with that monstrosity on it is awkward. The older and larger unit was much more comfortable to operate despite its larger size.
The next un-improvement I'll discuss is the battery. On the old unit, the port for the trickle charger is on the battery. So I could charge a spare battery while I ran the radio on a primary battery. On the IC-A6, the charging port is on the radio itself. I can still carry a spare battery, but I can't charge it unless it's actually installed in the radio. I think this is just plain stupid design.
Here's another un-improvement related to the battery: The old unit had a red light to indicate the battery was taking a charge. There is no such indication on the IC-A6 to indicate that charging is taking place. I have plugged the charger into the IC-A6 and left it overnight only to discover it was plugged into a dead outlet.
And, speaking of battery charge, when operating the radio there's no battery gauge other than an indication on the display that shows only when the battery is about to expire. Nothing to give any indication of how much operating time you might have left on the current battery. And if you do switch to a fresh battery, you lose the belt clip. The clip is held with two screws to the battery rather than to the radio case.
The next un-improvement--adding a lanyard: My old Icom radio had a lug on each side that would fit small metal key rings that made it easy to attach a lanyard. I usually used a camera strap or banjo strap, the kind with the clip on each end. Worked great for carrying the thing around your neck so there was no risk of dropping it out of a hot-air balloon or losing it on the floor of a cockpit. But the IC-A6 has only a tiny little hole on one corner that doesn't fit any kind of metal ring that I can find. It only accepts the flimsy little carrying strap provided with the unit, or a thin piece of string slipped thru this awkward tiny hole, which can then be tied to an appropriate lanyard.
So. . . after all that, how does my IC-A6 perform? In a word, inadequately. Reception is broken up far more than other radios when several hand-held radios are in proximity and receiving the same transmission. I do not know if this is only my unit or if all IC-A6s behave the same way. Another complaint is that when I have spent an afternoon programing the unicom and tower frequencies of several airports into the IC-A6 memory using the airport identifiers for the display, the radio loses the information within 24 hours. Time wasted programing, and time wasted looking up and setting frequencies while flying.
I would not recommend buying this, or the IC-A24 radio, which uses the same case. I have no opinions of other current Icom models, as I have no experience with them, but from first hand experience, I consider the IC-A6 to be a piece of junk.
Pros: The frequency lock stays locked when the radio is turned off.
Cons: Clumsy to hold, can't charge battery if it's out of the radio, no charging progress indicator, can possibly damage battery from overcharging. Difficult to add a lanyard, unreliable performance.I did a reception comparison some time back, and the A6 came out way ahead of the other scanners. Although the A6 is technically not a scanner, I am currently using it as a scanner. However, as the other commenter pointed out, the keyboard is somewhat cryptic and not so obvious how to use it. I didn't find the manual all that bad, but I can see how it can be difficult to follow. For product quality I would give this a 5 star, but for user friendliness may be 3 stars. My comparison of the scanners is here: It's a great radio. I use it as my only comm in a Champ with no electrical system along with a FlightTech ITC-401TC intercom. An LED or other indicator showing that the battery is really charging/charged when plugged into the wall charger would be a nice addition. Also, the manual is poorly written, especially the programming instructions. This radio has a reputation as being hard (impossible!) to program, which I shared until I found a couple of YouTube videos that showed how to do it. Once you understand the logic and key sequences, it's not that hard. Sarasota Avionics was a little slow getting the radio shipped, but it still arrived on time.

This radio has been a staple around our airport for some time now. We use them for airport operations, snowplow communications and lawn mowing equipment. In fact, the control tower people jokingly refer to it as their "number 2 com" (a monitor radio controllers can use while going "number 2"). It is a solid unit with a nice, big easy-to-read display. Reliability has been very good; I don't think I've ever sent one out for repair. When it wears out, you can use it as a wheel chock, but that won't happen anytime soon. Battery life is reasonable (not as long-lived as the Vertex but decent). Drop-in charger is a nice option to purchase. Be careful not to over-charge the nickel-metal batteries or they will not last. I would like to see a better battery meter on this unit but that's about my only complaint. Well... that and I wish it had a hi/lo power switch like some of its predecessors had. It's a lower cost alternative to permanently mounted equipment, especially if you are leasing, but an outside antenna on a vehicle ia a must-have accessory. This unit also has the headset adapter as a standard accessory (a $60 option which little brother A14 doesn't come with). Buy an A24 if you're going to use it airborne if VOR reception is important to you but the A6 fits the bill for me.Jim K.I was caught between the A6 and the Yeasu 310 and went with the A6 for two reasons. My instructor had an older (and better btw) ICOM and swore by it. I also chose the A6 as it has more accessories available. Now that I have tested it for a day I can say I am not impressed. For the money this is not worth it. I will back everyone else up with the two worst elements; no battery indicator for charging or anything else other than almost dead and a horrible manual. It uses a NiCad battery so it really does need a battery indicator ICOM. Also, the manual is useless. Just toss it out when you get the radio. Frustrating but I am considering returning this and giving the Yeasu a shot. Not cool ICOM! Way to aim low!

Not much to it. But still, it does what it supposed to do, and and is solid.Comes with screws and a mount for the dash, and double sided tape so you can mount the way you prefer. 4 outlets, one with the "spring" bit that works with your cig lighter. The maybe 3' cord leading to the device is nice, and makes it flexible for mounting.

This product was pretty good for what it was. It's positives is that there are four sockets to chargebut the negatives is that the sockets are really narrow so if your plug is wide then you will most likely have to leave a slot unoccupied simply because the sockets are so close together.
Another con for a compact car is the cord is pretty long.
And the final and major con is it worked well for the first 9 months but died just last week. It is very disappointing as I paid more in hopes this would last a while. I will be contacting the company

Cord is as specified @ 34"Cord is all black unlike picture (its a newer model than pictured)
Cord is 18 gauge wire
Safegaurded by a 10 amp fuse
All 4 sockets are usable for any device and all 4 sockets can be used at the same time as long as the total amperage pulled by those 4 devices is a total of 10 amp's or less.
Mounting screws are very short, so I used some longer screws; I didn't try to use the doubled sided tape.
I installed the unit under the passenger dash on my bass boat and ran wires from the battery to a female adapter to the front where it connected to the male adapter.
Unit Works greats great
For the price it is a great deal.

This charger is a must have if you own multiple vehicles and/or farm equipment like I do. I got it on sale for around $290 and have to say it's worth every single penny. The recovery mode is a cool feature because if you lose power it remembers the previous setting when the power comes back on, so you really can just plug this charger in and set it with no worries of over-charging or damaging your batteries. Go Power! GP-RV-80 80-Watt Solar Kit with 25 Amp Digital Regulator

Having used the solar system for one camping season, I found few more pleasant surprises. One now we can run the fridge on batteries (through an inverter) while travelling on those hot summer days. At the end of days travel, my 4 x 6 Volt batteries were fully charged. We can run our microwave, LED TV, PS2 and small surround sound system and not have to worry about not having enough power. As a matter of fact, I have not run my Honda 2000 generator to charge my batteries for the whole season (except for generator maintenance).
Go power had everything we needed to take our lifestyle with us when RVing. They are always available when I have a question or need their expertise in solving a problem.
Talk about getting more for less more flexibility than installing LED lights) and it is expandable as our needs grow....Our newly installed, 80 watt solar panel by Go Power performed flawlessly on our first trip out. We dry camped for two days, and the solar panel kept our single battery charged up to 100% both days, even though we used our radio and lights extensively. We went to bed with our battery fully charged, and confident that our trailers battery would run the trailers furnace as needed throughout the night, without the battery going dead. In the morning, once the sun was up high enough to shine on the solar panel, the battery took a mere two hours to reach a 100% charge, from a night time low of 67% from running the furnace.
In storage, as our trailer is for an average of 27 days and nights each month, the solar panel keeps the trailers battery fully charged and in good condition. I like this solar panel system, and I'm happy that I purchased it here on Amazon.com.

This panel is very efficient--its effective blue crystal design unmatched. I power my 'Coby' CD player, desktop computer & screen, HP printer, 'Magnavox' DVD player, and 'Emerson' TV screen through this panel; mounted on top of my travel trailer. With all of these items running at the same time through an 800 watt 'Cobra' inverter and a 'Kill A Watt' meter, my two 12 volt batteries remain at 100% during the daytime. I have picked up as much as a 6amp+ charge on the panel, though it's rated at 4.5 amps. This Go Power unit is the perfect size panel for a traveling author such as myself, who lives full time in the trailer and pays no electric bills, thanks to the Go Power Solar Kit. Sincerely, Mark Stephen Taylor.Read Best Reviews of Go Power! GP-RV-80 80-Watt Solar Kit with 25 Amp Digital Regulator Here
