Original Parrot Minikit Smart Universal Bluetooth Hands-Free Charging Holder PF290008AA
I've been keeping an eye on Parrot's product line ever since I got my Fit a few years ago as there wasn't an option for hands-free. I wasn't ready to drop a few hundred on one of the integrated systems, plus another hundred or so for installation, though they look to be the best way to go. I tried a product similar to the Minikit, which turned out to be a disaster as it was way too quiet and then fell apart. But, I decided to give the Minikit Smart a try anyhow, based on the generally good reviews of their other products. My hope was that it was better than my current solution, which was to plug the phone's audio out into my Fit's audio in and shout a lot.
Out of the box, I was mostly happy with what I saw. The Minikit feels pretty solid, and similar in weight to my Garmin GPS. The cradle snuggled up well with my Epic, with no interference with the Epic's side buttons. No way to use the Epic's camera though, as it's fully blocked when centered on the Minikit's back. That eliminates the use of augmented reality apps while driving. Honestly, I worry about the mic, which on a thin retracting cable. If I have this thing attached to another surface and the suction holding the main body in place lets go, I am not confident that the cable is going to survive. No option to export the audio either, so if that cable does break, the Minikit becomes a paperweight. The kit seemed to contain everything I needed to get it to work, though the manual leaves a lot to be desired. Not that I needed it, but I was a little surprised Parrot didn't include a charging cable for iPhones, given their popularity. Even without, the kit still contains two of the most common cable types for smart phones.
As indicated by the manual, I first went to get the latest update for the Minikit from Parrot's website. Let me tell you, what a pain in the @ss. Navigating around the Parrot site is frustrating at best, even to the point of switching languages on you. While the US version of the site doesn't have a compatibility list for the Minikit, which makes sense since it is advertised as good for all smartphones, the UK version of the site I was transferred to does have one, (add the following to the end of Parrot's dot com address: /uk/support/onlinehelpguides/parrot_minikit_smart/compatibility). The list isn't so full, and my phone isn't listed. Eventually, I was able to find the software update for the Minikit (Note: The Parrot Software Update Tool is not compatible with the Minikit Smart, you need to visit the UK site to the software and instructions for flashing.) Following the procedure went well, and in a few minutes, I was able to update.
For the charging to work, you *must* have the Minikit connected to a power source for this to happen. It will not charge up your device from its own internal battery. I used a standard USB cable and USB cigarette light adapter instead of the included adapter, as I wanted the extra USB port my adapter offered (allows me to charge two USB devices at the same time). The included micro-USB cable fitted my Epic with no problem. It's a pretty short cable, just enough to reach around the back and connect without too much strain on the connectors. As hoped for, it charged up my phone without a problem. I was also able to charge both the Minikit and the phone using a USB wall adapter. A tad over 2hrs and the Minikit was ready to go.
Pairing my Epic with the Minikit was smooth as silk. In short order it had synced all my contacts over and was ready for use. I placed a few test calls from within the house, a quiet environment where I thought it would perform the best for taking vocal commands and for me being able to hear it. Hearing was no problem at all, the 2W speaker more than enough in the dead silence. The voice recognition didn't do so well. Out of 5 attempts for 10 different contacts, the Minkit only dialed out correctly once, most often not understanding who I was trying to call. Trying various mic positions didn't seem to help. In contrast, I use the voice input on my phone often and it rarely has issues, even when I am shouting at it while driving along the freeway.
In the car, I mounted the Minikit to the dash on the same plate that I had been using for my Garmin GPS and connected everything up. It's not a clean look, for sure. Power cord to the Minikit so it can provide power to my phone. One cord from the Minikit to the phone to give it said power. Mic cord from the Minikit to where I mounted the mic. And one optional cable to pipe music from the phone to the car's sound system. Looks a bit like a spider perched up there on the dash. Staying within the laws governing obstruction of view and items hung from the windshield could be a challenge with this setup, at least if one wants/plans to use the Minikit's ability to keep their phone charged up.
On the road, the Minikit's base was quite steady, holding onto the dash without a problem. The base's swivel allows for angling your device just right for best viewing and it's pretty tight. The swivel can be tightened further, should it start loosening up over time or because of a weighty device. The mic surface mount included in the kit held the mic in place without a problem. The cradle holds my Epic firmly, and the phone did not shift in position whatsoever over the course of several trips. For me, it was too quiet to use properly (not much sound deadening in a smart sporty car). Around town it was ok, as long as I had the windows up, no music going, and the fan for the heat/AC wasn't on. Anything above 60mph and it was too difficult to hear. I eventually plugged it directly to my Fit's sound system, and that worked much better. Though I couldn't listen to the radio or a CD with it plugged in like this, I could use Pandora, Audible, and few other music related apps instead. Callers could hear me pretty ok, I only had to repeat myself a few times at a higher volume.
The Minikit Smart is a decent product, but, not without its drawbacks. I wish I'd opted for one of their systems that is fitted right to my car's stereo though. It doesn't look clean when installed, should be removed after every trip so as not to invite thieves, and if I get an extended life battery for my phone the cradle probably won't be able to hold onto my phone anymore. As well, it's still better than what I had. Maybe I'll resort to taking it apart and integrating it into my Fit a bit better.

PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet
As part of my job, I often have to drive a truck. That being said the cord is long enough to either set the strip on the dash, or the floor. I have never had a problem with heat, fan noise, or power draw. It is also pretty heavy duty, especially considering it doesn't weigh very much at all. The strip has 4 screw slides on the back for more permanent mounting.
My only complaint (Other than not having more outlets, which just isn't practical running off of a car power port), is that the L.E.D. indicating that it is turned on could be brighter.
This item is awesome for long trips, or for when you have to wait in the truck for a long period. I would say this item is a must for truck drivers, long trips with kids, or those people with tons of gadgets. 5 out of 5, I would not hesitate to buy another one.I've recently broke one of these by accidentally smashing the plug. Entirely my fault (not the product's). But it works so good, I bought another. Its so nice to charge and use a laptop (and other gadgets) while traveling. I've tried a few 100watt inverters to power my 85 watt computer, they have all failed me. This 150watt inverter does what I want.
The bad...
The fan is noisy, but so are most all inverters of this sort. Plugging it in is a little finicky to get a connection it could be my car's receptacle. The power light is dim; tough to see on sunny days.
The good...
I use this to power either of my two power-hungry laptops. It has never flinched nor got very warm. This item seems more durable than average. It has a heavy gauge power cord that is about 2.5 to 3 feet in length. The power light is dim; doesn't light up the car at night. The 12volt receptacle is nice.
Other...
The long shape may not work for everybody. I leave it in my car's jockybox, and it barely fits. I bought mine from Town Pump (gas station) for a higher price than Amazon's.
Buy PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet Now
We were concerned that it would be powerful enough to run the PC but it worked perfectly. With 3 teenagers on a long road trip it was critical we had enough juice to power all the toys and cell phones. It powered my 17" Sony Vaio PC. We had a Samsung Tab plugged into the PC. Also kept a windows phone charged using the USB. The price on Amazon was incredible compared to the price in a the stores. I also like the "Power strip" layout and the Long cord. It could reach from the front cigarette lighter to the back seat. I also really like all the outlet options, I can charge anything anywhere. I'm going to start taking this on business trips as well. We are always having issues with enough power outlets for our PC and Iphones. The PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet is a decent power inverter. It allows you to charge most things on the go. If you have a larger laptop make sure you only charge it while it's off, otherwise the inverter gets a little rough on your car battery. But if you have something like a small camera or cell phone that needs charged this works great.Want PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet Discount?
Solidly built, well designed and I tested it with a volt meter and found it to produce 117 VAC (AC volts) on all three outlets. I did not test the 12VDC port or the USB port. The manual is well written and informative. The power cable is 4 feet long. This unit produces a modified square wave to approximate a sine wave and product literature claims this is sufficient to power "most" laptops and electronic devices safely (some electronics are very sensitive to wave form). I will be using the PowerDrive to power a recently purchased Dell Vostro laptop. My expectation is that this advertised to run electronic devices safely so I'd be surprised if it didn't.

I contacted the seller informing him that the charger must have been defective to last less than 2 months. Seller said there was nothing he can do because it was over the 30 day return period. Unbelievable. Steer clear everyone!!!!!"Read Best Reviews of Premium Car Charger For HTC Sensation 4G Here
Received the product and it didn't work. Tried everything to get this product to work... I thought maybe the outlet was broken in my car. Instead, went to the store and purchased one. More expensive, but at least it works! The service for the item was very good; it arrived quickly and as promised. It doesn't seem to charge very quickly or powerfully. I can have my phone charging the entire time its in the car and it will still not be fully charged when I take it off the charger after charging for an hour. I usually just keep the phone plugged in while driving so it won't go totally dead and it works for that.Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Instead of paying MSRP plus tax for the Verizon car charger I ordered this instead and it works just as well. There is a small red light on top that lets you know the unit is working some may choose to cover this up with some electrical tape so it emits no light but I like it. The unit does feel a little plasticy but I think it's better than expected for the price, and definitely no reason not to buy it as the Verizon one probably feels the same for much more.Want Rapid Car Charger (CLA) for Motorola Droid A855 / CLIQ Discount?
Charger works as described.Red LED lights up and it does its thing. I did notice it even stops charging at full capacity, so you don't have to worry about over charging your Droid.

Belkin Portable Power Pack 1000 - Mobile Charger / Travel Charger for iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Tablets
I dislike giving negative reviews, but this product had my dander up. Also, I like to save people Forty Dollars on this poor product. The first time I charged this battery overnight (minimum of eight hours); I waited the next day until my iPhone 4S was at 20% of a charge. I then plugged it in while still using the iPhone occasionally. In three hours it went up to 39% and then began to rapidly reduce the entire battery charge back to 20% until it completely discharged. I thought I would try charging it without using the phone. I charged it again in more than the recommended three hours (four hours) until the blue light verified that it was charged. There is NO simple scale on the Belkin battery to tell you how much charge is left in the battery, which I think is a major failing.
I waited until my iPhone was completely out of energy (1%) and then plugged in the Belkin. The small port on the Belkin came loose and dropped into the Belkin Battery. I never had the chance to see how much of a charge I could get. Next came six calls to Belkin who triple verified everything from my name to my model number and promised to get back to me the next day, which they did. What followed were accidental hang-ups, repeat information and a bevy of frustrations.
After reading how so many reviewers only had limited recharge rates, I did ask technical support an important question. "If my iPhone is at 1% of energy and I attach my Belkin Battery fully charged to the iPhone, how much of a renewal charge should I get?" The response was, "You should get a 100% charge up on your iPhone". I don't think so. Save your money and buy something else more reliable like a "Juice pack air(tm) iPhone 4 & 4S Battery Case" or a New Trent ifuel IMP500 5000mAh External Battery pack and Charger for Apple iPhone 4S 4 3Gs 3G (AT&T and verizon), iPod Touch (1G 2G 3G 4G 5G), Motorola Droid, HTC Android EVO, Blackberry, Samsung EPIC, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Samsung Galaxy S and much more (although I cannot yet speak for the latter). Good luck. I've been waiting for someone to come out with this exact product. I got this because I often use my cell phone for music, route tracking, and to make and receive calls while I'm out on long bike rides, skiing, or just away from the house. The thought has often occurred to me, when I've been especially far away from other people, that the battery in my phone is kind of a critical resource to be wasting on Pandora or other applications that drain the battery quickly. I worried that my battery would be near dead on the exact occasion that I had some emergency come up, and would be unable to use my phone when I needed it. This battery is the exact solution I needed to stop this attack on my piece of mind.
Versatile. The use of a USB port for power-output and for charging on this device means that it works with pretty much every device I own. Android phones, iPods, portable wifi hotspots, Bluetooth headsets, all can be charged from this battery, and it can either be recharged from the wall, the car, or even from your laptop's battery.
Portable. I love the compact size of this battery. I had considered getting the 4000mAh version, but am glad that I opted for this one. It doesn't provide as much power as the bigger unit, but considering how compact it is, the trade-off is worth it for my purposes.
Durable. Although plastic, this battery seems very well made and is very durable. I don't think there will be any problem with it surviving in my ski coat or Camelback.
Power. I got about half a charge onto my Motorola Triumph Android phone when I charged it from zero as a test. Based on that, and the 1000mAh rating, think that half a charge is about what you can expect for this one on most smartphones. Enough for an emergency, or to prolong your phones life, but not enough to give you a full recharge.
I recommend this battery for its stated purpose. If you need something with more power, consider the 4000 mAh version. This is a tiny, lightweight external battery that's good for emergencies only. People should NOT confuse this with the larger batteries also sold by Belkin that are used to really charge batteries.
What exactly do I mean? For example, the iPhone 4 and 4S uses a battery with a capacity of about 1500mA while this battery only has a capacity of 1000mA. Thus, from the specs you should expect that this would only be able to charge about 66% of that of the iPhone. In real world application, expect probably around a 50% charge from this battery to your iPhone.
So, this is definitely for smaller dumb phones if you expect it to fully charge your phone. For smartphones I would only rely on it only as an emergency charger to use in a pinch until you can get to a real power source. For that, this external battery fits the bill quite nicely as it's small and light weight.
The only thing missing I think is a battery indicator beyond just one LED light to show how much power is left in the battery. I guess it's not a problem to just charge it all the time but that's not exactly efficient.
Finally, I think this thing is way overpriced for its intended use. I can see it being a good value if it were priced under $20 but not at the current price. I found this to be a very easy to use little device, quite handy and easy to carry. It took about 4 hours to come back up to a full charge when depleted, so it's not hugely fast on the recharge. It will shut itself down if you detach the phone or what-have-you and don't turn it off, so it will conserve power. It was also durable, as I dropped the darned thing a few times and it survived unschathed.
The down side is that while it's small and light, it also doesn't store enopugh charge to fully recharge a cell phone. I tried it on both my Blackberry Curve and my wife's smart phone and it charged a dead phone back to about 50%. Certainly not awful but I would have hoped for a little better. This is the most basic model in the Belkin Power Pack line. Despite the tagline 'for tablets and smartphone', it's really not strong enough to boost those power hungry items. Even with a full charge, it barely gave my phone an extra boost, nowhere near the advertised '5-10 hrs of talk time'. The best thing about this pack is the slim design. It's very small and would be great for travel. I only wish it carried a stronger charge. It might work better for mp3 players etc, though I haven't personally tested that option.

Goal Zero 11102 Sherpa 120 Battery
One thing I want to mention right away: the power pack itself is only 2.2 pounds in weight. For some reason various sources of this information show anywhere between 4 and 5 pounds. All the other accessories that come in the box are lightweight as well. The included AC adapter with cords is very lightweight and small and the 12V cigarette plug is as well. Too often we find that the main object of interest, like a laptop for example, has an attractive weight specified but comes with a massive AC brick and cables that weigh as much as the thing itself. Not so here.
Physically, however, the Sherpa 120 is quite a big thing, about the size of a Webster's dictionary (if any of you remember those :-) or a really big Fodor's travel book. Make sure this meets your needs. It is not a petite device.
So far I have used the power pack to test out running a ResMed S9 CPAP machine (CPAP only, not humidifier/heater) with an inverter, and it powers it successfully for a full 8 hours on a full charge. That pretty much meets the 120 watt-hour spec, as the machine averages around 15 watts (including loss in the inverter and S9's AC adapter). A full charge from AC takes 4 hours as specified. Construction quality is first rate.
Only one issue so far: there is no indication of how to charge the power pack from a 12V source, although that charging method is given in the specifications. The charging plug is labeled as needing 15.3V. I will have to hunt down how to do that. I would have appreciated a 12V plug cable for charging in the box.
A potential issue is how TSA treats this. This device qualifies as a "larger" spare lithium ion battery and, judging by the watt-hour rating, has about 10 grams of equivalent lithium content (ELC) -. This is perfectly acceptable as a carry on according to DOT guidelines (see -up to two such "spare" batteries with ELC up to 25 grams may be in carry-on luggage; cannot be in checked luggage). But the particular TSA inspector at a given gate on a given day may have other ideas.
UPDATE: To charge this device from 12VDC source, you have to buy a separate adapter: a male cigarette to 4.7mm adapter, from Goalzero.com. It's $15 so not too bad. Also I'm not sure why Amazon had to delete the links I put in the main review -they were to dot.gov web pages showing info about FAA treatment of li-ion batteries.
FURTHER UPDATE (7/14/11): Just back from a 3-week African trip which was the reason for buying this battery in the first place, to power my CPAP machine when we did not have electricity available at night. It worked perfectly and TSA as well as foreign airline security inspections never even looked at it. Total non-issue. I even used it on the plane to power the machine (clear this ahead of time with the airline though). This review is for the Goal Zero Sherpa 120 battery Goal Zero Sherpa 120 Battery.
I bought this battery to use on a backwoods trip to run a CPAP machine while I sleep. Since this would be running a medical device, I felt it was important to know I could trust the system. I carefully measured (using a Kill-a-Watt) the power my CPAP was consuming and knew that in good conditions the battery as found in the Sherpa 120 should last nearly 3 nights, so the solar panels wouldn't need to fully charge the system in a single day. I have also measured the CPAP (using a Watts-Up) when running directly from 12v and it consumes about 30 watts a night (vs 37watts a night on 120v).
In field testing and subsequent follow up this is how I would rate the battery. The battery nicely holds a good charge and delivers the full capacity before going into a sleep state to protect itself from over discharging. I used the Nomad 27 solar panels to charge it and found that given my needs they were plenty large enough to top it off every day. To protect the battery which is a very key component to the system (in fact the one piece you must have), spend the extra few bucks on the silicone protective cover.
The battery holds as much power as advertised, I've measured it several times and it continues to perform well. The Goal Zero system connects and works well. The only plug that seems slightly loose is the output plug on the battery. The other connectors are nice and sufficient. The output one should snap to give you extra security that your device will remain powered. For portable operation focus on using 12v loads directly and make sure you are running your necessary equipment as efficiently as possible to maximize your run times. If you can get away without using an inverter, all of your devices will run longer from a fixed battery capacity, plus your weight will be physically lighter.
One important thing to note, if you leave the battery unattended for 30 days or more, it goes into a deep sleep even shutting down the display and internal circuits (to conserve power). When you turn it on again it'll appear discharged (the screen shows only 1 bar) but it really is holding the charge well. You can measure with a Watts-Up to see the voltage, but the logic they use to calculate how much charge remains needs to know the last total charge and it can't know that until you recharge it. If you plug it into the solar or wall charger for a bit (~20 min if was off for 30 days) it'll snap back and realize that it's actually fully charged. Tip: If you have a system and want to see what this deep sleep state looks like, you can simulate this for yourself by removing and then replacing the fuse on the back of the unit.
In the posted pictures my battery has a Silicone sleeve to protect it. I highly recommend buying the sleeve to protect your battery. Goal Zero 91105 Black Small Silicone Sleeve for Sherpa 120
*** Update: July 2,2012 I've used this battery on dozens of trips, camping, canoe trips, even a dive trip (on the boat) and it continues to work great. I've found I use the USB port often now to recharge my additional devices (cell phone, GoPro camera etc). This has been a very dependable battery and I'm glad I have it. This battery along with my 12v charger and solar panels gives me great freedom while maintaining power in the field.

This item. I chose because it has circuitry in it for voltage control so hopefully overcharging will not occur, as can happen with common 12 V adapters that plug into the cigarette lighter. Cheap adapters do not do voltage regulation, therefore, you may find that your phone gets warm while charging. This over charging that occurs with unregulated chargers, will shorten the life of your battery.Broke already, worked great for my iPhone but when I got it for another phone, it didn't charge my phone at all.Sunday, April 20, 2014

Quality of the unit is very good. 4 stars because they don't say, will not work on all battery's. Also, the rings are not large enough to accomodate an automotive battery cable post attachment. The holes must be enlarger unless you are attached to other than the atcual battery
10/2/2011 Update: Three years later and the unit has run 24/7 all that time and still going great. Change to 5 stars +
3/3/2013 Update: The unit has been running constantly for 4 years plus. Still working just fine. This is exactly what you get in the box with the battery tender itself. EXACTLY. Good product, well made, does what it's supposed to. Can't beat that.No issues with this product and I like the weather resistant fuse cover and connector cover. Use on my motorcycle and it is the perfect length for that application.

I can not ask for any better. It worked perfect. Price was reasonable and had a local locksmith program it for $50.00.Dealer price $300.
Cost for the key from you and progamming.. $85.00It works only if you go to a dealer to program it, at my place the programming is asked $106 by the dealer. So at first I went to a locksmith, but...they cannot get it done, and they also destroy my old key!!! I have to tow my car to dealer...
Do not go to a locksmith, go to dealer directly although the price is high, but they know how to get it worked.
