Update 1 year later: My FIOS BBU is beeping again, indicating that the backup battery is not holding a charge. This battery lasted less than a year but only has a 90-day warranty, so I'll be looking elsewhere for a replacement.

This is an exact replacement for the original FIOS BBU battery, but at about 2/3 the price of others I've seen. Switching the batteries takes 5 minutes or less and can be done without turning off the power or the FIOS router. If your FIOS BBU is beeping, this is the cure!

Like many people in our neighborhood, our Verizon Fios back-up power unit battery went dead after about 3 years. This battery works as a replacement, and we've had solid results so far after about 3 months of continuous use.

AND, if you are using this to replace your Verizon FIOS unit, try calling Verizon first. They came out and replaced mine for FREE.

Has trouble charging both occasionally, but overall its great for docking and charging your spare battery, so if you know you got a long day ahead or going on a hike, you can just pack the fully charged spare battery. The USB to computer function is also business, as you can use it as a media dock for your phone as well. Very pleased.

You have to decide whether to use the charger or the USB into the computer. Since I turn off my computer every night I cannot use the USB. My wife received these radios as a gift and we promptly used them in Glacier National Park. We only charged them up overnight, not the 24 hours recommended. Regardless, they lasted about two days which may be symptomatic because of the short charging time. As for their range, 2 couples were hiking and we were separated at some times by distance or terrain. The radio transmission was clear, the units easy to use, and easy to setup. The two power levels are tied to the particular channel selected by the user. When you select the channel, be sure to read the manual or you may have a visit from the FCC as a few of the channels require a radio license. One other thing is that the radios will automatically shut off if the batteries are too low. My recommendation is that if you are going to be on the trail for several days, have 4 AAA batteries as a backup. The weather radio function is a nice touch.

These radios are great but they (in NO way whatsoever) will broadcast or recieve radio transmissions from anything more than maybe 5 miles away if you're lucky (they didn't even come close to that when a friend and I tested this). Otherwise, they are decent (a little on the larger size but decent).

The radios do, however, feature a great function that allows you to monitor two channels at the same time... so you can monitor what the enemy has to say as well as what your team has to say... just gotta figure out their channels LOL!

Hi all, When i received the radio it seemed to be defective right out of the box. The dual band mode did not work correctly as I got some sort of strange pulsating noise when selected. there was also a strange electrical noise while transmitting. I also noticed some sort of "birdie" on 442.000. It would seem that the uv-5re plus's have various manufacturing defects that are inconsistant. The headset was also defective. It was a very aggravating experence.

I just received my radio and it is well worth the money. I had to get online to find out how to program the memory channels which turned out to be very easy. The manual that you get is not very informative but there is so much info online about these radios. Make sure you get the USB cable to program your radio.

I ordered this radio more as a curiosity than anything else and was I surprised. I'm not a licensed HAM and I know better than TX on those frequencies. That said this is an unbelievable product for the price. As far as TX on this unit (FRS & MURS freq.) it blows through. I monitor local public service traffic mostly. The FM is great ! I use it while I'm working in the yard, listen to FM radio but I have a priority channel set so I can listen to that too. At the beach I set the priority to Marine VHF and listen to the harbor traffic or local shipping traffic.

Yes I'm a "hobbyist" but for the tremendous flexibility of this radio how could you match it? I'm studying for my Novice ticket now and I'll be able to talk to all the 2m locals.

I purchased two of these for my Friendly Robotics RL800 mower and was disappointed with their performance. While initial run time with these batteries was nearly three hours, within a month that time had dropped to less than 10 minutes.

Friendly Robotics thought the mower was working correctly and that the problem was these UPGs were not up to the task. I bought B.B. Batteries EB20-12X which have been working fine and have also used the Werker WKA12-18NBs.

After about 5 years or so, the battery pack in my B&D CMM 1200 24V mower died. I live in Canada, and bought the mower at Home Depot, so I went there and they don't sell the replacement batteries. I went to the B&D website, and was redirected to DeWalt, (they merged), where I found their replacement batteries. They were around $150 plus shipping, and also stated "backordered". The cynic in me thinks that this is suspicious, since B&D just came out with that sexy new 36V mower, so maybe they aren't going to support the older 24V anymore--"Can't get a battery? Darn, better buy a new mower........" Anyway, I found these batteries after reading a mower blog (who knew there were mower blogs?). They work just fine. There have been some comments that the posts are different, and that is correct, but I didn't need to modify anything. The factory batteries in my mower didn't have external terminals, but rather had screw holes with the wires secured by screws which themselves formed the posts. These new batteries have two terminals with a bolt going through them as can be seen from the photos. So, the wires are held on with screws in both systems, but the screws face in slightly different directions. There may be different variations of this B&D mower, so maybe in some there isn't any slack in the wires, but in mine it worked just fine.

So, if you can get them (maybe not anymore) the factory batteries will cost you about $150-$160 plus shipping, and two of these together were $82 shipped........ I don't know how long they will last, but even if they only last a year or two, I still didn't have to spend over $400 for a new mower yet! I had to pay some brokerage fees to bring the batteries into Canada, but would have had to with the factory battery as well, so it all comes out in the wash.

These are great units but if you are going to attach the quick disconnect to a modern automotive battery installed in an auto, think twice. Newer battery cables do NOT allow these rings to attach to the battery at the battery posts. You'll have to connect the 'Rings' to another positive and negative terminal location.

If using on an auto, a better option is the cigarette lighter/power plug unit. (...)

Quality of the unit is very good. 4 stars because they don't say, will not work on all battery's. Also, the rings are not large enough to accomodate an automotive battery cable post attachment. The holes must be enlarger unless you are attached to other than the atcual battery

The moto krzr k1m I received from Verizon is a cranky phone when it comes to charging through its usb port. It won't recognize a charge through a hub on a desktop computer. And I found it won't recognize a charge through a car charger that converts 12v to usb voltage, even with a Motorola usb cable. So I bought a Motorola car charger for about $8 bucks including S&H and now everything works fine. If I need to charge the phone in the car while I drive I no longer have a problem. The unit is put together well, has the moto logo, and has a nice coiled cable to the mini-usb plug. If you're getting the "charger not recognized" message on your moto phone with an aftermarket charger, shop around and get one of these: SYN1630 is the part number. Problem solved.

It works fine once the connection is fitted correctly. However, on my Motorola RAZR it doesn't fit really tightly. I have to jiggle it around a bit in order to be charging. That's been a bit of a hassle when doing it while driving. Once connected, it works just great. And the connection to the car power port is solid.

I tried out my friends battery pack with my own iPod Shuffle and I have to say that it does indeed increase the battery life. I usually get around 10 hours of playback and the battery pack gives it an extra 15-16 hours. But again, even though the battery pack isn't that bulky itself, the concept of having a light weight flash player with an attached battery pack is odd. Looks and feels slightly big. I don't use my Shuffle for long drives, since it isn't made for that. Get the regular iPod instead. If you are not satisfied with the normal battery life(which is quite good), then go ahead and get this. But you might just lose the iPod Shuffle touch; lightweight and compact.

I purchased this in the hopes that is would help keep a longer battery life for my iPhone 3GS. Unfortunately when you plug in the device into the phone a pop up appears that reads, "Charging is not supported with this accessory". Given you can't fault the product for not supporting something that it wasn't designed for (as it charges my shuffle and other iPods great). However I have seen this same product work on earlier versions of the iPhone so that is why I am faulting the company more than the product. If it works on another version of the iPhone why did the company have to change how the device charges? So basically, if you are purchasing this for the iPhone 3GS it will NOT work.

Toss in a couple of grandkids and add in their equipment and then you have a lot of electronic devices being used on long trips that need to be charged. I just bought the iPhone5 and wanted to be able to charge it on the go in my vehicle. This works great. It holds securely in the 12V rounded plug in my vehicle. It does not wobble once in. It does not stick out too far, only extends to the end of the flip cover over the plug, not beyond it. It has a little red light to indicate connection. Actually you can see a bit of red glowing from the two USB ports in lower light. The USB ports are clearly marked for Apple "A" and non-Apple "NA". I connected the lightning to USB cable to my phone and this charger and my phone immediately sprang to life to indicate it was charging. It seemed to charge rather fast too, compared to the charger I use in the house. Great little charger and seems well made.

2/18/13 Update I have been using for over 4 months now and it is a fantastic charger. I can leave it in my vehicle even in sub-freezing weather. It works perfectly as soon as I plug it into the socket.

4/28/13 update looks like my photos have been removed. Not sure what that is all about. Looks like a different amazon product pic than what was on here before so don't know if they removed photos in the process. Hmmm.

My original test for Nexus devices was using Jelly Bean 4.1, I repeated the tests for Jelly Bean 4.21 and saw a significant difference. I updated this review to show the differences between two releases.

I received PowerGen car charger for testing from the manufacturer to write an honest and unbiased review and you will find both pluses and minuses of my experience in this review.

I am attaching a collage of 3 photos labeled with numbers 1 through 3 under customer photos that I will be referencing in this review.

The first thing I noticed that this car charger is fairly short (3 inches in length, 1 inch by 1 2/8 in width). Photos #1 shows this plug plugged in.

The plug has two ports labeled "A" and "NA" which stands for Apple and Non-Apple devices. I own all Android devices but I tested both ports to see their behavior with my devices. The charger comes without a USB cord, so tested it with the USB cords that came with my devices.

I used Battery App to determine how each device recognized the external battery pack. 'AC' status means the charging is at full charging rate. 'USB' status indicates charging at a lower charging rate. 'Discharging' status means that the charging rate is below the power that the device is consuming so it slows down the discharge rate but does not re-charge.

The key findings:

(1) Samsung Galaxy 7.7 cannot be charged with this car charger with either port

(2) "A" port provides reduced power for some non-Apple devices and does not work for others

I repeated the test with Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean 4.21 and both ports are now charging it at AC rate. The original test which showed poor performance on Apple port was Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean 4.1.

I also retested Galaxy Nexus Phone running CyanogenMod 10.1 version of Jelly Bean 4.21, both ports also show charging at AC rate.

The behavior with Nexus devices was consistent and good on "NA" port. After upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.21 both Nexus devices are charging at AC rate on the Apple port.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.7 did not work (was discharging) in both ports.

The MP3 player worked in both ports, but as USB rate in "A" port and at "AC" rate in in "NA" port. When I charge Sansa MP3 with a standard AC charger (photo #3), the MP3 player goes into charging mode, displaying the charging animated icon, the MP3 content is not played. When MP3 was plugged into the PowerGen plug (photo #3) it continued to play the content. I listen to books on my MP3 player so this caused me to move forward in my book and I had to manually reset my position by a few chapters to get back to where I was when I started charging. The positive side of this, is that is possible to continue listening while MP3 is recharging.

To summarize:

I liked:

1. Did not work with for my Samsung Galaxy tablet

3. (Not applicable after upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.21) For non-Apple devices the less useful plug takes up a little extra room

Overall, after upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.21 this plug has an excellent performance on both ports for Android devices.

After reading many reviews I finally purchased this PowerGen 3A car charger and a PowerGen 2A charger http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073FCPSK/ for use at home.

It is quite difficult to find a non-OEM charger for home or car that will charge a smartphone at a fast speed (AC rate) as many chargers are designed to meet the charging specs for Apple devices despite claims to be compatible with Android smartphones. Apple uses a configuration that is completely different/non-compliant (not a shock considering its Apple) from the USB standards used by nearly all other manufacturers for identifying a source as AC (1A+) vs USB (500mA) to signal the device that a higher amperage charging rate is available.

I tried several locally available chargers including a couple of different Griffin chargers that were advertised as 2A smartphone and tablet compatible. All delivered a USB rate (500mA) charge according to the battery monitoring app on my phone.

Both of these PowerGen products provide an Apple and non-apple charging port. Unlike many other products, however, the NA charging port on both this car charger and the home charger in the link above provide true AC rather than USB charging rates for smartphones as the manufacturer has chosen to abide by the USB specs. The two middle data pins are "shorted" together on the NA port so that it is identified by the phone as being capable of supporting more than the 500mA draw that would be available from a computer's USB port. I can't speak to if the Apple port works correctly with Apple devices as I don't own any, but the A port is certainly capable of charging a "dumb" cell phone at the same time an Android device is charging.

For anyone who has a charger already that seems slow, check your charging rate to see if it says USB or AC in the System settings on your Android device. If it reports USB, you can make a charging cable by cutting into a micro USB cable and clipping the white and green data lines. Twist and solder the white and green wires together on the side leading to the mini USB plug but do not connect the two on the side leading to the full sized USB plug.

I have tested this car charger with OEM Apple Cable, not aftermarket cables.

It will charge any iPhone including iPhone 5 while a iPad mini or 4th Gen with Retina Display is plugged into the 2nd port. While charging time was decreased on both devices, it served its purpose of giving any of the combination of iOS devices listed above a charge at the same time.

Charging the iOS device one at a time as needed worked as expected with no decrease in charging times.

The 2.1amp port also helps give the iPad mini or iPhone 5 a much faster charge time, than their OEM chargers. Due to the fact that the iPhone 5 and iPad mini only come with a 5 Watt power supply. This car charger supplies up to 10 Watts (which is what iPad 1st Gen, 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen needed).

Keep in mind that the iPad 4th Gen with Retina uses 3.1 amps not 2.1. The OEM power supply is larger than any other iPad, coming with a 12 Watt power supply (3.1amps) instead of 10 Watt (2.1amps). However this charger still works, just a decrease in normal charging time.

Hope this helps, as there were really no reviews on if this car charger works with 2012 iOS devices, mainly iPads (Mini, 3rd & 4th Gen). All test were run on 11/28/2012.

I am pretty happy with this purchase, it looks pretty stylish having your iPod suspended in the air like that from your cigarette lighter. Only problem was I'm not sure about the remote control, seems a little flimsy and I can't get it to work, no bother though.

To be objective..

Pros:

Well built (although has those sharp edges as mentioned in another review)

At 9AM, clear sky, mid May in Brazil, around 17 degrees Celsius (it is Autumn and the temp is dropping), it is generating about 8 watts (18.8 volts at 0.44 Amps.. probably around noon is going to be even more powerful)

Cons:

18.8 volts! Depending on the device you are connecting to it, it may be burned if not tolerant to higher voltage. It should be around 12v, and I think 50% it too much variation.

The picture shows a girl with the panel hung to a backback. Indeed, you will need to make holes in the fabric in order to do that.. there is no way to hang it as it comes from factory

Those sharp edges and the pet finish over the panels can be improved. Something that would be more scratch-resistance would be best, especially if you are taking it outdoors.

I surely recommend the item, but I'll definitivelly look for a small solar charge control to use with the panel. I'm no electric engineer and I've read you dont need one for panels that dont go beyond 12w, but 18v is too high IMHO, so I'm kinda scared of connecting my Garmin GPS to it. I'll probably look for "Sunforce 7 Amp Charge Controller".. never tested or seen it, but the reviews shows that it may worth the try.

Edit:

With direct sunlight, from 9AM to 11AM, it fully charged two CR123 Tenergy batteries in about 2 hours, what is really amazing. On the other hand..

Now I'm measuring the power generated by the panel with the sky covered by clouds. It is noon, pretty clear on the same day, but no direct sunlight. It is quite a surprise it is still generating those 18 volts, but now, at 0.04 amps ONLY. Since the Tenergy batteries are charged already, I cant measure how long it would take to charge them, but I believe it would take quite long... I'll update this later whenever I can test charging them again w/o direct light.

I bought this panel for my friend who is a missionary in Haiti. She is often without any electricity, and would find herseld with no way to communicate to the outside world. When Haiti was hit hard by 4 hurricanes all power was lost for weeks and weeks. This panel has allowed her use her computer and to charge her cell phone. She is no longer cut off, and can also get her work done. It has been such a hit there, others in Haiti are asking me to bring them one!

I live on the Gulf Coast and was just hit hard by Hurricane Ike. I bought this solar product to help power my laptop and it works very well. You will need sunshine and a 12 volt inverter. I have to say that this panel is a good investment if you hike, travel by bike or go camping.

Why?, you dont need to worry about elecctricity to recharge your electronic gadgets, only plug them to this and you are done, allmost all the electronics have a cigarrette charger.

The only complain is the finishes of the 3 panels, they can be bether, they have very sharp edges, they can be under the fabric but they aren't.

Wagan have to improve this issue of the panels as I say it, and also to consider 4 or more "o'rings" in order to atach it to some back pack or Bicylce trailer or to hang it to "a thing"

The quality overall is very very good
