For less than five bucks I got this bundle with two chargers and cover for my brightside. Feels nice to the touch although the slider function seems a bit hindered from this. But it's nice to have the extra protection and the car charger. I wish all little devices used the micro usb plug companies like Apple with their new "unique" charger only serve to make us pay more to them and trash all the old charger cables. What an un-pc and eco-unfriendly move Apple! The chargers here fit my other phones, my kindle and I love this about it.

The charger does what it's supposed to do but it doesnt stay put in my vehicle outlet. I have to push it in while it charges the phone. I thought all outlets were the same size (car lighter outlets). Xantrex Freedom 458 12-volt 2000 Watt Inverter / Charger Single Input-dual Output 20/15 Circuit Bre

I installed this 458 12volt unit to replace the 24volt DR2424 unit to operate our house 4 Trojan L-16H-AC batteries. The 24 volt unit had a defective off-on switch. Having operated off grid since September 2001, neither of these units would properly charge our house batteries to the rated Specific Gravity readings of fully charged cell at 1.260-1.275. Had to replace the batteries continuously during the 2 year warranty period due to sulfation from the under charging cycle. Doing "E" charges did not correct the problem, but only increase plate shedding. In doing an "E" charge, my 7.5KW generator blew a stator winding which caused us a $6800.expense to purchase a new generator. The mfg would not correct the undercharging design cycle, and Trojan was kind enough to give us good warranty service on undercharged batteries. This last set turned in actually had sulfate which could be

viewed through the cap holes. On the 14th of January, I connected up the new Magnum

24 volt 3924 watt inverter to the new set of Trojan batteries with the monitor installed. This monitor will allow me to control the battery charge cycle, and adjust to prevent plate sulfation by reaching the correct Specific gravity readings after reaching the Float cycle.

I suggest that any one considering purchasing an inverter to carefully search for the unit that will fully charge each battery cell to the 1.260-1.270 values. We have gone through 4 sets of Trojan L-16 batteries due to undercharging. If smaller batteries are to be use, the problem I have experienced may not show up in their

system.

Update 11.15-2012. The installed Magnum inverter sales information given by their technical staff on 15 June 2010 was that their inverters operated by the gravity readings. This prompted us to purchase a new inverter, RD3924, from them in June

2011. Back surgery caused the installation to be done in January 2012. Right at the start, this new inverter proceded to operate in the same faulty condition as the Xantrex units. They installed a new custom control board with two missing resistors which almost over amperaged our generator windings. Their custom control board did not follow any of the inputs I made. Then they shipped me a remanufactured unit built in 2008 in place of my 2011 purchase one. In the process, I had the off-on switch fixed in our Xantrex DR2424, and removed the remanufacture Magnum product. In searching the internet for answers, I located Schneider Electric, and they gave me the information to set the DR2424 from the #7

position to the #2 position. This change adjusted the Bulk voltage to reach the factory 29.6 vdc, and continue it until the absorption cycle was completed. This ended the L-16H-AC battery cell undercharging. The short time the new December 2011

four new L-16H-AC were on the Magnum, one of the battery cells went dead.

Yesterday I install a new L-16H under warranty. In my discussion with the Trojan factory staff, they had told me to charge these tall batteries at the 29.6 vdc voltage, and in reviewing the downloaded information from the factory website, this same voltage is listed in the material. The conclusion, is that using these large batteries, the inverter purchased should have a voltage of 29.6 at the end of the Bulk cycle, OR you will not get the 80% Specific gravity reading in the battery cells. The last 20% charge is put in at the continued 29.6 voltage until the charge

amperage is lowered to the results of the rated amperhour battery rating divided by 40 is reached. In my case; 435/40= 10.87 amps. At this time, the Float cycle starts. My cell Spgr readings now are in the 1.280 value which is in the max value.

It has been published that the cell Spgr reading could go to 1.290, but that is really to high. The cell readings I am getting now, the possibility of getting cell sulfation is very low, and "Equalization" charges may not be needed as the higher Bulk voltage could very well stir up the electrolyte enough to prevent

stratification.

Magnum would not fix the problem using their engineering staff.

yeah, I know, it's made in China. But this thing is a no brainer to put in anyone's go-bag, for evacuations, storms, whatever. covers a lot of channels, and you can transmit on a huge range of ham frequencies. now, technically it's illegal to transmit on some sensitive channels unless you have a ham license, or are in employment of a company that does. however, in an emergency, boating, airplane, camping, hiking, or an evacuation. believe me, you would transmit, get help, and work out the details later. but you can surely listen anytime, and hear what's going on.. I got a bright yellow one, so if I drop it, it will be easy to find.

the weak point of this radio is poorly written instructions. however, it's not so difficult to figure out to get basic use, and you can get a cable for it to use free software to program a bunch of frequencies into it. it can scan up and down. nice compact package, feels quite durable. I keep it in my car at all times. You never think you'll end up in an emergency, such as power out, road blocked, storm, etc. stuff happens, be ready. get a good two way radio.

Got 2 radios to me quickly Radios hard to get working (google "uv5r miklor help" and look around Youtube for a crapload of videos on making these things work)

This setup/learning process is a nightmare experience but well worth it!! The Miklor site and the Yahoo uv5r group are going to be your friends as well as local ham's to get this working. I'm still trying because now it's a challenge and a struggle.

Sellers are helping me figure it out and get them working. Who else would be as helpful when it doesn't turn an immediate profit for them? I'll definitely be buying from them again. I asked them to get a few things so I can buy from them! BUY from Newgate. They're honest, direct, and helpful and will get what we want in their manifest so we can have it. Let's keep them in business and the same for Baofeng as the product is great but the set up is a mess. I'll post more when I get it working with the repeaters. Simplex operation is good, clear, and worked with a 3 mile line-of-sight at Hueco Tanks State Park in Texas.

Update23 February 2013Ok, it's been a couple of weeks so now I can say something solid. The folks at Newgate really rock. They were very helpful. Most other folks who are selling these are no help unless you bought from them. EVEN IF YOU PLAN TO MAKE A PURCHASE OF OTHER MERCHANDISE from them and tell them that up front (I won't name them but it happened with 5 different places). So, don't expect Ham Radio candy stores to be helpful. But the folks at Newgate were incredibly helpful. Help from other Hams and playing with the settings over and over and over made this work for us.

Battery life is EXCELLENT!! The radios themselves are not much short of amazing if you also add a magmount 2m/70cm external antenna (glass mount antenna's are junk) or the Nagoya 771 (good walking around antenna) for it because the included "rubber duckie" antenna is horrible. And a speaker/mic is a necessity! The headset that comes with UV5R is lame although the kid likes it for when he is climbing/hiking. Go figure! Google miklor uv5r and get into the yahoo support group. It's a great radio if you don't need fanciness but want reliability, sturdiness, and low cost for high quality. I love mine and the kid prefers his over the Kenwood th-f6a that my father got for him for when he goes hiking/rock climbing, kenwood th-f6a is for his satellite stuff and as his in-car mobile set up.

If the UV5R gets damaged, and it's survived some pretty hairy falls in the weeks we've had them, it's inexpensive to replace. Ignore the cable/software for the UV5R and learn to program from keypad, it's better to learn the radio and the keypad is not that hard. The offset and tx-ctcs are what you need to have right. Leave the Rx to default and the Tx to the correct pl tone (ctcss) and it'll do fine. Check with your local hams and support the clubs so we have repeaters. The programming cable works best if you avoid it altogether. It's a waste of money as it doesn't fit properly and can't be seated out of the bag on the UV5R without you having to trim it seriously and the software really isn't... you get the point. As for the UV5R, it's a simple straightforward radio system and there are a ton of websites, a yahoo group, and a load of youtube videos to guide/help you with the set up. And they come in colours (black, yellow, blue, red, and camo). Alot of folks love them and my son and I are a part of that group of folks now. Good Luck!

As many others have stated, get the programming cord. The radio itself is a simple, bare-bones dual band handheld that seems to be fairly rugged. 'Chirp' (programming software) makes the radio easy to set up, just make sure you download an image from the radio, make your changes, and re-upload. Otherwise, you might put the wrong firmware back on the radio and have a mess on your hands. If you do, there are recovery images available on the net. DO THIS FOR EACH RADIO if you order more than one. I have purchased 3 so far and they have all used different firmware images. This is to say, they may not all offer the same features.

But for $77 a pair? :)

Does everything I would have expected. I collect motorcycles and never remove the batteries. I'm too lazy to move a charger from bike to bike. I've plugged in most of the bikes plus a car that I seldom use in the winter and leave them on. No worries.

Only negative I've found is the leads from the charger to the battery are only 6 feet long. If you require more, you need to purchase a 25 foot extension. 31 feet is much more than I need. Wish I could purchase leads of 10 to 15 feet long.

I live on a small farm and have many pieces of equipment that have batteries. I was able to remove the batteries and place them on a work bench and charge 10 of them at one time. Plus this unit will keep them at peak level until spring arrives.

I received the charger in a very timely manner and was surprised how fast it came in. However, the charger doesn't work at all. Tried different outlets but it doesn't work. After 10 days the blue light started flickering on and off. The unit would charge an iPhone only if both cords were inserted but not if both were actually being used. If I plugged an iPad into the other cord, I got an error message that charging was not supported with this device. If I left the cord in and unplugged the iPad, it charged just fine. If I unplugged the 2nd cord I got the message again that charging isn't supported.

The best thing about this charger is the price. I am not out much.

Anyhow, this is a really nice 3-in-1 gadget, but this lack of usability is making me give it 1*.

I love my Blackberry, but the battery life is certainly not the best, especially if you have alot of apps on the phone and use it constantly the way I do. It's so convenient to just pop the phone in the charger when I get home. Also, I have a second battery for the phone, so I never have to actually charge the phone if I don't have time. I can just switch out my dead battery for a fully charged battery and be on my way. I highly recommend this item if you're on the go alot the way I am.

Schumacker battery chargers die young and suddenly. I have owned 3 different Schumacker battery chargers and all three only lasted about 500 hours of charging. They just stop charging. I have owned a different brand charger for about 35 years and another for about 20 years. Both of these chargers still work fine. I believe that Schumacker chargers have a design flaw.

We ordered this and it stopped working after a few days. But I contacted the seller and they sent me out a new one within a few days. This new one seems to be working fine. For an inexpensive car charger i'd say it's pretty good.

I was surprised that they still made this charger since my phone is so old, VX8300, and am so happy that's its not a cheaply made generic version made by an unknown brand like the last one, whose wires came apart. This one looks to be the real thing, a genuine LG item, and reinforced around the wires, and will last a long time, probably longer than my phone. Very well made, works great, very happy with my purchase.

It's a generic car charger... it says so right in the description. It worked when I plugged it in. That's all generic car chargers do. They either work or they don't. This one did.
